I’m still finishing up my first draft of the final We Begin Again story. I’m 90% finished, which as most writers know is a really great sign, because that means I’m past the middle bit which is where a lot of writers get stuck.
Once I’m done, I’m going to let the story sit for a while. So your best bet if you want to hear about posting is to subscribe to my profile on AO3. I’ll post here, too, but with subscribe alerts you can be more sure not to miss it. :)

I deeply wish I could thank the BBC Sherlock AO3 author who I saw do this on one of their long stories. I thought it was such a great idea that I borrowed it to use myself when I realized my own story was going to be super long.
ATTN BBC Sherlock fandom authors and fanfic readers — Any idea what Sherlock story had this kind of author’s note? I originally thought it was from @earlgreytea68 ‘s Nature and Nurture, but I just checked, and apparently not. Anyone have any idea?

Today I’m re-reading a Star Wars fanfic that I wrote in the late 80s, which is all over the place in POV and has all the symptoms of being an immature 15 year old writer, but is still very much dear to my heart. When I wrote the story, I had no idea that any other human being wrote stories based on tv or movies. I had never met one, anyway. I just thought it was me and my spiral notebook, writing for myself, and for my one Star Wars fan friend who I swore to secrecy.
Anyway.
I pulled the story out of the archives today to have a morning of coffee and nostalgia — and instead wound up learning some Very Useful Writer Insights about me as a writer, because apparently, even back then, Iwas a big fan of these tropes:
- very slow burn
- there was only one bed
- unexpected psychic connection
- fish out of water scenarios
- sass and banter
- friends to lovers
- long-ass stories
TL;DR: Don’t delete your old stories, or if you do, keep a copy for yourself. Looking back at the writer you were helps you understand the writer you are, and may still want to be.

Whose car do I need to wash in order to get a “sort by commenter” feature on AO3?
I have such a backlog of comments (sorry!!!) and even if I didn’t, I’d love to see who the repeat-commenters are, so I can be extra chatty and grateful to them.
