um. also here's the word vomit on the left under the cut... fair warning it is. excruciatingly long And completely deranged since the joke was that I have problems about them lol

these children were forced to sublimate their identities into idyllic roles in a game of gods while simultaneously being made to perceive themselves as monsters. joker is constantly being positioned as the perfect gentleman thief, The Savior, often of individual women but also of The World as a collective, to the point of symbolically *executing* parts of himself for the sake of his utility and the salvation of other people. there are multiple scenes of him stepping in front of a girl to bodily protect her from an attacker and the inciting incident of the entire narrative is him suffering for that role and losing his home, his family, and arguably in a sense his own face (glasses). actually glasses in general are highly symbolic in terms of persona 5 as a whole when you look at joker, sumire, maruki, and even crow, which can also tie into themes of "masks," "personas," and "cognition," but that's another topic. anyway even though joker is constantly martyring himself for others he is still the most demonized character in the entire game, having Satan as one of his other selves and existing in the people's cognition only as "the most dangerous inmate locked in the quarantine cell" (paraphrased). as the trickster and the leader of the phantom thieves he must always be strong and unfaltering - he is never allowed to cry, or to show weakness.

this also affects his relationship with sumire, who through the persona of kasumi is forced into a position where she must constantly be saved by others. kasumi is the perfect girl in every way - sweet, perpetually cheerful, thin, beautiful, feminine, an unimpeachable prodigy athlete who is expected to always get first place, who must do so effortlessly - but by the same token she can never be confident and fufilled on her own, and must always be rescued by the savior-martyr joker. what sumire cannot escape is that kasumi is The Damsel. her ultimate persona ella is literally a bride. and sumire, the flawed and human girl behind the mask who had her agency taken away from her the moment she was granted kasumi's name, hates and loves kasumi in equal measure for that perceived inhuman perfection. it is functionally because kasumi in sumire's eyes represents the fantasy of perfection which she can never really achieve that the idea of kasumi loving her is incomprehensible. kasumi cannot love her, cannot have admired or envied her gymnastics, cannot cook for her, and absolutely cannot have died for her, because a flawless princess cannot be human. kasumi has to have been this cool, untounchable, isolated eidolon, because to believe otherwise would destroy sumire - but in the end, it destroys her anyway when she herself is made to become the glittering ideal. and yet, becoming kasumi creates a dichotomy in sumire's head - if kasumi is everything that is good and worthwhile, than sumire is everything that is repulsive and unlovable. her hatred for kasumi was at its core a manifestation of her hatred for herself, and her belief that her only options were to either accept a future where she is unwanted or to die. after all, in sumire's mind, there is nobody in the real world who could value the survival of her true self. personally I do believe that joker and sumire love each other (platonically or romantically) but they're being shoved into these fabricated roles as savior and damsel by forces outside of control.

the same can be said for akechi. despite all the menace and mania of the black mask and the horrors he was directly complicit in, at the end of the day, akechi is an 18 yo who was being exploited by adults that should have been protecting him. and as the detective prince, he was overworked and paraded around to present him as this immaculate prettyboy savant, the sinless embodiment of justice who every citizen could expect to vanquish the evil criminals, even whle akechi himself was unable to see the prince as anything more than an artifice. by having to perpetuate the image of justice as a pure facade, akechi became further disillusioned and his lost faith in the world was accentuated. akechi was born miserable, llived a miserable life, and died miserable, all the while full of rage and believing that he would never belong anywhere. but even crueler is that there was hope for him. the thing about akechi's death that makes it work where other attempts at "redemption by death" do not is that any karmic undertones of the scene are simply a bonus. rather than leveraging his death against the morality of his actions, the implication is that akechi has to die primarily because he would be unable to live a happy life in the world as it exists now. given the oppression of the young in a corrupt society, inevitably some victims will be unable to survive. but akechi's death motivates the phantom thieves to keep going, to fight for real societal change, and to hold on to the hope that one day they will create a world where people like crow can live and escape the cycles of violence they're trapped in. still, thus doesn't make akechi's death any less painful. in his final moments, he came to realize how much joker cared about him as a friend, finally understood that he would never see him as a monster, and very nearly found that place to belong he had been deprived of. the phantom thieves reached out their hands for him to take - but it wasn't enough. joker loves him too, wanted him too, and it will never, ever be enough again, because akechi is dead. what ultimately connects the royal trio is that each of them is unable to live happily as their true selves when those in power force idealization and demonization upon them, and only by breaking free of those chains can they hope to experience true rebellion.

Preview of Strange Bedfellows Chapter 2! Introducing the worst love triangle ever 😏

“So, Weakness Moxibustion, huh? Haven’t seen that one in a while.”

A bespectacled doctor was poking and prodding at Pantyhose Taro with an annoyingly chipper expression on his face. Pantyhose sank his palms deeper into the cushions of the exam table. He was growing impatient with being treated like a science experiment.

“Can you fix it or not!?” Pantyhose said.

The doctor looked thoughtful. “It’s a pretty rare technique. Actually, there’s only one person I know of in the whole world who has the instructions for the cure,” he said.

Pantyhose scowled.

“Oh, but I’m sure he’ll help you! He’s a great guy,” the doctor continued. “Here, I’ll give you his phone number.”

The doctor scrawled a name and number on a notepad, tore off the page, and handed it to him.

“There you go. Ranma Saotome. He’s a teacher at the Tendo Dojo—”

“Ranma Saotome?!” Pantyhose exclaimed, feeling rage erupt in his stomach like a geyser. It hurt him everywhere to stand up. He fell back onto the table.

“That’s right,” the doctor said with a sunny, idiotic smile. “He’s a good friend of mine. Now, let’s get to work on those arms of yours, shall we? You really did a number on them.”

Pantyhose grumbled as the doctor started popping his joints back into place. So, Ranma Saotome had the cure—there had to be some way for Pantyhose Taro to get his hands on it. And once he did, Ranma would pay for this disgrace. Pantyhose would bathe himself in every cursed spring in Jusenkyō if it meant making him suffer—

“Hello?”

His thoughts of sweet, sweet vengeance were interrupted by a knock on the clinic door.

“Dr. Tofu, are you in?” called a familiar voice. Ranma’s housemate Kasumi Tendo stepped into the room.

“Oh! It’s you, Kasumi!” the doctor said with a strange look in his eyes. His glasses fogged up.

“I’m just here to return the book you lent me,” Kasumi said. She pulled a novel out of her tote bag.

“Oh, yes, a book! I love books,” said Dr. Tofu. “Now, which one was it, again?”

One by one, he started pulling encyclopedias off his shelf and tossing them onto the floor, singing to himself. “La di da do dee da…let’s see—was it this one? Or maybe this one?”

Kasumi smiled. “Oh, no, Doctor; I’m giving a book back to you,” she said. She placed the paperback gently into his hands.

“Haha, of course! It’s one of my very favorites. See?” said Dr. Tofu. He opened the book and wore it on his head like a hat.

Pantyhose felt his face twist up. Something very strange was going on here. The doctor hadn’t been this highly strung until—

Kasumi giggled softly. “You’re so funny, Doctor.”

‘It’s her! She’s…she’s got some strange power over him!’ Pantyhose thought, gripping the edge of the exam table in fear. His stomach turned to ice when she looked at him.

“Oh, Mr. Pantyhose!” Kasumi said. “I didn’t expect to see you here.”

“I’m not—don’t call me—”

In his panicked state, Pantyhose Taro struggled to form words.

‘Damn! She’s caught me off guard—’

The doctor handed the book to a plastic skeleton in the corner and grabbed Pantyhose’s arm, twisting it backwards in a circle.

“Oh, yes! He’s one of my newest patients,” the doctor said with a jovial lilt in his voice. “Hard at work setting up a dojo, isn’t that right?”

Pantyhose couldn’t have answered even if he wanted to. The doctor was tying his arms in a knot behind his back. He suppressed the urge to scream.

‘She’s using him against me! And yet…there’s still not even a hint of a battle aura! Kasumi Tendo…just what on earth are you?’

Twelve minutes later, Pantyhose Taro limped out of the Tofu Clinic in worse shape than he’d arrived.

Kasumi Tendo was a fearsome, fearsome opponent indeed.

Alright y’all, with the release of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, it’s time for me to share my playlist for the entire trilogy.

I’ve refined this over like six years so scientifically speaking it’s probably good right. oh also it’s four hours long. so if you have a road trip or a boring job, this one’s for you. disclaimer, it’s entirely possible I have garbage taste in music. I also missed some characters and moments because there’s 65 songs here and I am merely human.

If you don’t have the patience for four hours, I recommend starting at track 45 and listening to the end, as the Mass Effect 3 portion is the strongest in my opinion.

UNDER THE CUT FOR DESCRIPTIONS WE GO!

FIRST MOVEMENT - MASS EFFECT 1

1. Atlas - Coldplay Eden Prime

“Sometimes the wire Must tense for the note Caught in the fire, say oh We're about to explode“

I really like the atmosphere of this song. It’s ominous, but also somehow hopeful, and makes me feel like Something Huge Is Coming.

2. I Will Not Sing A Hateful Song - Constantines Paragon Shepard

“But I was also born and raised To always speak and listen clear To know the last sound that I make Could be the last sound that I hear“

OK, listen, I think this song is about vampires, and I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be a metaphor or not. But I think this is a great song about controlling one’s temper, about knowing that you have to Rise Above the parts of you that want to lash out sometimes to get things done and have peace. Seeing as how paragon Shepard, to me, always seems like they’re three deep breaths away from snapping, but manage to keep it in check, it fits them to a T.

And also maybe they’re a vampire.

3. Hard to Kill - Beth Crowley Renegade Shepard

“So I let the rumors Turn me into a legend 'Cause I'm only human But a good myth is hard to kill”

This one’s a recent addition, but holy cow, I love it for Renegade Shep, particularly an Earthborn or Ruthless, but it works for any of them.

4. We Own the Skies - Five Iron Frenzy Joker

“My hands are bleeding where they often crack The stars will sometimes burn with longing Through the choking black Of night shifts piling each against the next”

This really vibes with Joker’s backstory for me, his super driven serious self in flight school, contrasted with who he is when he can fly a ship. He’s the best pilot in the goddamn fleet and I love him.

5. I Just Wanna See - Smash Mouth Kaidan Alenko

“Mister moon checkin' on how y'all livin' The stars all winkin' at the day that's dimmin' I just wanna see”

This song fits into his reactions to first showing up at the Citadel and his former romanticism about living in space. Ironically, it’s a song about Earth, but I feel like it works well for him. Also, Smash Mouth absolutely sounds like the kind of music Kaidan would listen to, no I will not be taking questions or constructive criticism.

6. Don’t Give Up - Noisettes Ashley Williams

“She's got a talented face and a suitcase Ain't got no desire to go no place In her case she's got no desire with her hand in the flame say's she don't feel the fire “

The energy of this song is just perfect for Ashley’s no-nonsense chip on her shoulder attitude.

7. About As Helpful As You Can Be Without Being Any Help At All - Dan Mangan The Council

“I was thrown in the boat/Cast out to sea Friendly with waves/There were sharks below Hungry for me/So I dangled my leg”

I mean, the title says it all.

8. The Captain - Guster Anderson

“Courageous, just like the captain Marching forward with no doubt in his head”

I have adored this song ever since my friend played it for me, and it’s the ultimate mentor-protégé jam for me.

9. Secret Agent Man - Johnny Rivers Garrus Vakarian

“Here's a man who leads a life of danger To everyone he meets he stays a stranger Oh, with every move he makes another chance he takes The odds are he won't live to see tomorrow”

I have to poke a little fun at Garrus and how seriously he takes himself in Mass Effect 1. I romanced him across four playthrus, I’m allowed!

10. I’m Getting Too Old For This Shit - Kill Lincoln Urdnot Wrex

“This random apathy/I swear it's killing me But I guess it's all the same, till the devil knows my name”

I don’t know ANYTHING about this band, but this song fits Wrex’s disillusionment with the Krogan well, plus, like. The title. (And also, that he secretly DOES care what happens to the Krogan.)

11. Bird Song - Juniper Vale Tali’zorah nar Rayya

“I want to dance on the horizon line But there is something I am caged behind I have a heart made for take flight But I'm low, so low”

I adore this song and the sound of Juniper Vale in general. The etherealness of this one, combined with the youthful optimism, feels very Tali. The line about ‘something I am caged behind’ works well for the suits, too. This one’s especially good if you’re a Talimancer!

12. 11. Green Garden - Laura Mvula Liara T’Soni

“And I’ll fly on the wings of a butterfly High as a tree top and down again Putting my bag down, taking my shoes off Walk on the carpet of green velvet”

I really like this song’s vibes and I feel like Liara fits it well, particularly in ME1, before all her youthful optimism is stripped from her. The scenery descriptions feel very Thessia, too.

13. Feed Me (Git It) - Little Shop of Horrors The Thorian

“The guy sure looks like plant food to me!”

Do you get it. Do you get my joke. It’s because the Thorian is a plant that eats people. (I’m not funny)

14. Blindness - Metric Matriarch Benezia

“I was a blind fool, never complained All the survivors singing in the rain “

I don’t love the use of blind here as a negative, albeit metaphorical, descriptor, but I think this song fits Benezia’s indoctrination and death well. If you have suggestions for another, though, let me know!

15. Technologic - Daft Punk Saren

“Buy it, use it, break it, fix it, trash it, change it, mail, upgrade it”

I just think it’s Neat

16. Watershed - Vienna Teng The Reapers

“ While you were building your empires I was still sleeping”

I think this is the song that inspired the entire playlist. Vienna Teng sat down and decided to write a song from the perspective of a natural disaster, and it’s so ominous and gut-wrenching.

17. Hourglass - The Hush Sound Virmire

“This is how it ends We believe every lie and say we'll be friends How long will it last? Before we scratch all the scripts and we rework the cast “

hahahahah rework the cast get it because you have to pick who DIES

Seriously tho I really like this song for Virmire and that moment of choice that feels like it lasts 100 years on some playthroughts.

18. Pompeii - Bastille The Siege of the Citadel

“ And the walls kept tumbling down In the city that we love”

Throwback to when this song was on the radio like three times an hour. Which is around the time I made the first draft of this playlist, incidentally! It’s such a good Final Battle Jam for the Citadel, and the part about “if you close your eyes/does it almost feel like nothing’s changed at all” I think work really well for Shepard in this sequence. Shepard knew the Reapers were coming, had been fighting them all along; this attack on the Citadel is just retreading familiar territory for them, as horrifying as the war being brought to their doorstep is for the Citadel’s citizens and the council. James Vega has some good dialogue about that kind of thing in ME3.

20. Gravity - Yoko Kanno The Death of Commander Shepard

Welcome to mood whiplash, it’s my specialty! This is the part where you die. I think it also works for her coma very well, when she’s just drifting between life and death, not sure what’s going on, but something keeps trying to pull her back to the world.

SECOND MOVEMENT - MASS EFFECT 2

21. The Phoenix - Fall Out Boy The Lazarus Project

“Hey young blood, doesn't it feel like our time is running out? I'm gonna change you like a remix Then I'll raise you like a phoenix “

this song has no right to go as hard as it does and if you think it’s melodramatic shut up

22. My Body Is A Cage - Peter Gabriel Commander Shepard

“I'm living in an age Whose name I don't know Though the fear keeps me moving Still my heart beats so slow “

This works particularly well if you romanced The Virmire Survivor, but this song captures the energy of Shepard freaking out bc they are trapped with Cerberus, because Cerberus rebuilt their body from the ground up. That jarring, caged feeling is so palpable in ME2 that when they gave me back Joker the first time I played, I BURST INTO SOBS from relief.

23. The Lady is a Vamp - The Spice Girls Miranda Lawson

“That's all in the past, legends built to last But she's got something new”

Listen. She’s a bond babe. Handbags, heels and pistols rock. She’s got class. This is a song about Miranda. That is all.

24. Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down Jacob Taylor

“ I watched the world float to the dark side of the moon After all I knew, it had to be something to do with you “

This one’s about the Vibes for me. Also can apply to his past relationship with Miranda. I’m also super showing my age on this song, oof haha.

25. Stable Song - Death Cab For Cutie Colony Abduction

“Rows of deserted houses all Our stable mates highway bound “

I really like the mood of this one for showing up on the very first abducted colony, the eerieness and sadness of it all and Shepard’s resolve to do something about it.

26. Konichiwa Bitches - Robyn Kasumi Goto

“I'm so very hot that when I rob your mansion You ain't call the cops, you call the fire station”

THAT COUPLET ALONE MAKES THE ENTIRE SONG. I love how playful and cheeky it is.

27. Seven Nation Army Glitch Mob Remix - The White Stripes, Glitch Mob Zaeed Massani

“And I'm talking to myself at night Because I can't forget Back and forth through my mind Behind a cigarette”

Pretty sure we all had this on some playlist or another when it came out, and it’s the perfect Badass With A Grudge song.

28. Science is Real - They Might Be Giants Mordin Solus

“ And when a theory emerges Consistent with the facts The proof is with science The truth is with science “

This one actually got added by my wife to replace a song that wasn’t on Spotify, but that has the same energy; Hank Green’s “I Fucking Love Science”. I get more into the emotional side of Mordin in the ME3 section, but I also really just love his Hamster On Coffee energy and this song captures it really well.

29. Prove Yourself - Radiohead Garrus Vakarian

“I can't afford to breathe in this town Nowhere to sit without a gun in my hand Hooked back up to the cathode ray

I'm better off dead “

The absolute rock bottom mental state Garrus is in when you get back to him in ME2 is so heartwrenching. Might not always agree with my boy’s methods, but he’s one of my favorite fictional characters of all time.

30. Rat a Tat - Fallout Boy Feat. Courtney Love Jack

“We are professional ashes of roses, this kerosene's live You settled your score, this is where you come to beg”

It helps that Courtney Love sounds exactly like Jack to me, NGL.

Hits harder if you romanced the Virmire Survivor. Mostly from Shep’s perspective. This is a Shep that feels Bad after that encounter rather than Mad, so Your Mileage May Vary.

33. Violet Stars Happy Hunting! - Janelle Monae Tali’zorah vas Neema

“I'm an alien from outer space I'm a cyber-girl without a face a heart or a mind”

I just like the vibes of this one for Tali! I know it’s more about an actual AI but...IDK. I like it. So there.

34. Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd Thane Krios

“There is no pain you are receding A distant ship smoke on the horizon”

This song works both on a Literal level with his Kepral’s syndrome struggles, but also Metaphorical re: his Battle Sleep. Plus, Thane is a dad, so he gets Dad Rock.

If Morinth weren’t so under-utilized after recruitment and didn’t get killed off in the background of ME3 I’d probably actually recruit her sometimes. I almost did on my most recent playthru bc that Shepard just HATES SPACE COPS. Anyway the song explains itself

37. Turn me On - David Guetta feat. Nicki Minaj EDI/The Collector Attack

“My body needs a hero Come and save me Something tells me you know how to save me”

I know this song is a metaphor but also it works really well both literally and metaphorically for Joker saving EDI

38. Robots - Dan Mangan Legion

“Robots need love too They want to be loved by you “

The Geth just want to live peacefullyyyyyy

39. Be Still - The Killers Love Interest Theme

“Be still / someday you’ll leave fearlessness on your sleeve”

This song works so well for the night before Omega-4. If you had an ME2 love interest, anyway. Also “fearlessness on your sleeve” is one of my favorite set of words ever written.

40. No Cars Go - Arcade Fire The Omega-4 Relay

“We know a place no spaceships go We know a place where no subs go “

This one’s pretty literal.

41. Rocketman - Elton John Suicide Mission

“ And I think it's gonna be a long, long time 'Til touchdown brings me 'round again to find I'm not the man they think I am at home “

I like sneaking some Classics onto my playlists, and I think this is how I generally approach Shepard’s mindset during the Suicide Mission, mostly the chorus. I’m also a sucker for ballads during action sequences. This one isn’t a perfect 1:1 but the Vibes check out.

42. Blast Off - David Guetta feat. Kaz James The Normandy Crew

“Got all my people with me And none of us give a fuck So put dem hands up higher Let's smash this party up”

You have to imagine they partied HARD after recovering from Suicide Mission, but before Shep got arrested, right??? This is the Starships for ME2.

43. I’m Not Your Hero - Tegan and Sara Liara T’soni

“ Feeling like I am now lighting up the hall I was used to standing in the shadow of a damaged heart Learning all I know now, losing all I did I never used to feel like I'd be standing so far ahead “

This feels like a good coming of age moment for Liara, as she copes with the choices she made in the 2 years of Shepard’s death (giving them to Cerberus), losing Feron, etc. This is her coming into her own as the Shadow Broker. She’s not meant to be an uncomplicated Big Damn Hero, but she can do good from this position.

44. The Well and the Lighthouse - Arcade Fire The Alpha Relay Incident

“I'm serving time All for a crime I did commit You want the truth? You know I'd do it all again“

These opening lines I feel capture the Alpha Relay Incident really well, and how Shepard did what they HAD to do there, and would do it again, but it still feels like shit. I always wished there was more choice on that mission, but also, having something like that happen without player agency is interesting. Shepard is at their most interesting, I think, in times where we DON’T have a say in what happens to them.

45. Reignite - Malukah Commander Shepard

“Crush my heart into embers, and I will reignite”

Is it cheating to use a Mass Effect fan song on my playlist? I certainly don’t think so, and this is the best Mass Effect fan song ever written.

It feels Too Easy to use this here but I’m gonna anyway. You’ve seen AMVs of this set to everything. It’s the ending song of DA:O. It’s the quintessential World At War song.

James Vega is massively underrated and I will love him til I’m cold in the ground. Aro icon.

I like this song for how the Virmire Survivor feels about their survivor’s guilt and also about Shepard. I honestly wish they were both more heavily utilized in ME2 and 3, but I realize it’s hard to write a ton of content for characters who just aren’t in half of all peoples’ playthrus.

Honestly I didn’t “get” the Refusal ending until I heard this song, then I was like, OH, I SEE IT ALL SO CLEARLY NOW. This is my favorite in-universe Shepard take on the Refusal ending. I always got it from the player’s perspective of being dissatisfied with the options, but this one puts it into the world for me. This is a Shepard who does not trust the Starchild. This is a Shepard that chooses to end things on their own terms rather than submit to their designs.

62. Machine - Regina Spektor Control

I used to have Adieu here, actually, because like Refusal, I didn’t used to GET the Control ending. Now, I do, in part thanks to hearing this song. I mean, just go look at the full lyrics. If this song hadn’t been written years before the end of Mass Effect 3, I’d swear it was a fan song for it.

I’m a Destroy Ending person, I won’t lie. Full on “the starchild is a liar and my synthetic friends are FINE” indoctrination theory level destroy ending. But this song is not about that. It’s about the canonical destroy ending, and if you prefer a Shep that survives it, this song’s for you.

This song captures the exhaustion and melancholy of the end of a long journey so well. Shepard is afraid of what comes next, the collateral damage resulting from their actions. But they know that, at least, it’s over now. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

64. Waiting For the End - Linkin Park Synthesis

“ I know what it takes to move on I know how it feels to lie All I wanna do is trade this life for something new Holding on to what I haven't got”

This is one of my favorite songs of all time. The hardest part of ending is starting again. Oof. Gets me every single time. Shepard finding the resolve to sacrifice themself for the hope of something better, of things not going how they planned, ever, of learning to make peace with that and the people who loved them learning to carry on without them? OOF.

65. Shine - Vienna Teng Epilogue

“Shine with all the untold Hold the light given unto you Find the love to unfold In this broken world we choose“

Vienna Teng is a master of capturing life’s softer emotions, and this fits perfectly with the epilogue scene for me. Tell me again about the Shepard.

“Find the love to unfold in this broken world we choose” has to be one of the greatest lines about the human experience ever written.

Nightshade Part 2 - Momochi Chojiro Route

I'm most excited for Chojiro (and Hanzo too I guess!) so yayayay~ I always liked how supportive he was towards Enju's growth as a shinobi and always trying to give her opportunities to do things outside of what she's used to so she can develop her own independence. It pains me to choose the option of standing up for Chojiro against Hanzo since it just makes the situation "worse", but seeing Chojiro be so kind to Enju and understand and appreciate that she didn't want them to see Chojiro in a bad light was so heartwarming. Ohhh, so Hanzo has been with the Tokugawa since he was 12 years old after they made an offer for him, mmm that's interesting. Anyway, I liked how Enju infiltrated as a maid into the estate to copy Goemon's note saying he'd steal stuff from them. I feel like everyone is really nice to her so they kinda unintentionally "leave her out" because she has no experience, so I'm glad Chojiro is constantly trying to build her up with different tasks but always being there to support her when she makes the decision thinking that she probably needs help with something. It's really cool how proactive Enju is, and how much she wants to help out everyone and be on the same level as them. I also think it's kinda cute how Enju holding on to Chojiro's sleeve when they went home after training as kids was a cute memory to share.

Enju shopping with Chojiro was cute, it really feels like rather than being "cold" like how he looks, Chojiro is actually just awkward and doesn't know how to treat people he regards as important? It was kinda sad when he said he usually doesn't have things important to him because he doesn't want to lose them (when Enju bought him a handkerchief), I wonder what he'll do when he realises that Enju is much more important to him than he thinks? Omggg I didn't expect Chojiro to hold her hand and walk around!! That's cuteee! I also love how she told him it's a peaceful era now, so he should treasure things without needing to worry about losing them. Considering he lost his whole village and his parents when he was 6 years old, that must have been hard to witness as a survivor. Ohh, so the ninjutsu Enju used to capture Goemon was from Iga! It was nice to see how happy Chojiro was when she told him that, making him feel that Iga still lives on in some way even if the village is gone. Honestly, I was pretty touched when Chojiro tried to accompany Enju to Hideyoshi, and then even tried to stop her for a moment. On the other hand, I'm not sure why Enju's father had such an evil laugh after disowning his daughter to save the village.. Unless, he really did send someone to kill Hideyoshi, and maybe that someone was actually Kuroyuki😟 Anyway, I felt bad for Chojiro. He wants to be as reckless as Gekkamaru and be able to throw away everything and run to Enju and save her, but his responsibilities and his position make that basically impossible because of the consequences it would ensue. Maybe if he was a "less important" figure and shinobi to Koga he could, and I feel like he would have wished that at this moment.

Kando ordering Chojiro and them to go hunt down Enju and Gekkamaru was pretty cruel, like wow, you really don't care about your daughter at all, now I don't even want to imagine what his wife might have went through before she died. On the other hand, it's pretty frustrating to hear the villagers talk bad about Enju (after being influenced by Kando's words etc) considering how much Enju sincerely wanted to repay them for their kindness. But I guess it's not like they really saw Enju for herself even when they "liked" her anyway. They just liked her because she was a symbol of peace, meaning that they could live a peaceful life, so now that she's disrupting it and reminding them that if she doesn't die, then the Tensho Iga War where the Iga village was decimated would occur again, then of course they would disregard her life. I'm just sad that Chojiro feels like he's not allowed to have a "choice" on what to do because he knows the pain of what a war can cause, and how he thinks that he needs to be ruthless and do it so that Ennosuke and them don't need to bear that pain of killing someone important to them. I kinda like how Kyara found her resolve to follow the order to kill Enju. She loves and cherishes Enju, but at the same time, she loves her family too and doesn't want to lose them, she chose what was most important to her, and I think it was very understandable. On the other hand, even though I find Kasumi kinda annoying sometimes with all the crying lol, it's understandable how she couldn't find the resolve to kill Enju even if she understood the consequences. Honestly though, they've said that Kasumi isn't good at fighting so I'm not sure why she's even on an assassination mission separated from the others lol. I knew Gekkamaru would prioritise Enju above the village, but actually hearing him say that everyone and the village could die if it meant Enju was all right was pretty wow. I understand though tbh, and honestly I have to agree with him. It's a dangerous sentiment but honestly, at times I remember those feelings of mine where I thought that if I had to choose between this character's life or the world, I'd definitely choose this character's life because a world where they don't exist is basically meaningless. I think the most apparent one was when I played Tales of Xillia 2 and instead of the good ending or whatever, I really just wanted the ending where Ludger chooses to save his brother haha.

Anyway, it's sad but understandable why Enju feels "ready" to die. I think if I knew my friends had to kill me to save things important to me too, I probably wouldn't have much of a will to live. It was nice to see Chojiro and Enju fight against each other like they're training, but I nearly cried for Enju when Chojiro was strangling her. I'm glad Kuroyuki came and saved her because even though Chojiro is evidently hesitant, I'm not sure if he really would have stopped, since he could have collected himself after, but at the same time, the fact that he even hesitated shows that he probably won't be able to do it. Anyway, there's something really heartwarming about both brothers (Gekkamaru and Kuroyuki) being so devoted to protecting Enju above all else. They're so different, but when it comes to Enju, they're honestly pretty obsessed with her in their own way. I honestly didn't expect Gekkamaru to die. It was true that even though Kuroyuki and Gekkamaru are brothers, they've always been well versed in fighting solo, so it's understandable how Kyara and Ennosuke could get the upper hand. I felt so bad for everyone though. Kuroyuki covered Enju from everything. Gekkamaru was tormented in his death because he wouldn't be able to protect Enju anymore. Ennosuke was sad that he couldn't go back to the village with Kyara, nor did he get to tell her his feelings, and then she got killed by the Nokizaru shinobi in front of him. It's sad that Enju didn't get the resolve to fight against them until everything became pretty much a nightmare since maybe Gekkamaru wouldn't have died if she helped, but at the same time, it's impossible to fault her for it. I think I feel sorry for Chojiro having come too late. I can't imagine the feeling of burying your disciples, especially since he was also the one who told them that they needed the resolve to kill Enju and that they were shinobi who had to succeed in their missions. I feel bad for Kasumi though. So young, so naive, and she probably feels responsible for the Nokizaru being there, when honestly, they would have been there either way, but yeah seeing all her respected older "brothers" and "sister" die killing each other would shatter anyone..

Enju realising that the village would be destroyed if she didn't die made me so sad. It's not wrong to have the desire to live, but it's understandably terrible to think that if she died back in the prison, then Gekkamaru and them would have been alive. Hearing Chojiro finally be able to express his feelings and understand that despite how much he wanted to continue being a "shinobi" that fulfilled his missions and nothing else, thinking that if he didn't fulfill his missions, it was basically death to him, really broke my heart. Mainly because he thought that losing his way as a shinobi by hesitating to kill Enju was what he was most scared and tormented about, but when he saw the lifeless bodies of his disciples, he finally realised that before being a shinobi, he is also human. He can't help but have feelings, he can't help but feel emotions even if he cannot express them or show them, because he can still feel them regardless. His disciples and Enju are more important to him than his missions, and realising that must hurt a lot.. I really wanted Kasumi to survive at least but I guess it wasn't meant to be, especially since she felt responsible for everything that happened. I also feel bad for Kasumi because she had to be the "dumb" character that causes trouble for everyone and then dies in a silly preventable way just because the story doesn't really need her anymore and might as well add to Enju's grief lol. I mean, I doubt Chojiro would have been hit by those poison needles if he didn't get shocked by Kasumi's actions and try to think of a way to save her even though it was too late, so then that made him slower to react to protecting Enju imo.

I thought it was sweet how Enju told Chojiro to hold her hand instead of grasping it so hard that it injures him, so that she can keep his happiness there (since he said his hand itches whenever he's about to lose something important to him), and even if she can't protect it, at least she can give him warmth. Aww it was so unfair that Chojiro made Enju admit that she liked the idea of them being a couple but he didn't say anything about it to her so now she's confused about whether he likes it too or not🥺 Otherwise, now that Chojiro has decided to live with the "consequences" of wanting her to stay alive, it's nice to see how much more honest and talkative he can be even if he is a bit awkward since he's so used to talking like a teacher hahaha. I knew Hideyoshi's death was suspicious and I wondered if he really was dead, but his appearance, his arrogance and his reveal that it was all like a succession game where every one of Enju's friends that were sent to hunt her down represented one of the Elders and whoever won would be Hideyori's guardian, it was all so frustrating to watch. When I think about how desperate Ennosuke and Kyara were to resolve themselves as shinobi and fulfil their missions as they should, it makes me sick to think that it was for a "master" like this who thought of them all as disposable pawns. Kanda being happy about it and the idea of getting a nice reward from it for Koga just made me think yeah, it's nice that true shinobi don't exist anymore. No one should have to go through that pain of having to be a "robot" with no emotions, existing just to be loyal to a master you barely see or know, giving your life to something that barely affects yourself, it's just so heartbreaking and anger inducing. It was nice to see Chojiro tell Enju his feelings, and then they escape together during the match🥰 It's kinda amusing how both Goemon and Kuroyuki knew to pop up now and save them haha, but I think I'm most glad that Hanzo decided to help them escape too, like I guess it was expected since it was obvious he didn't like it, but I still liked seeing it, especially when he teased Enju about giving Chojiro the antidote mouth to mouth before haha. I quite liked the bad ending! Chojiro and Enju committing suicide together was quite bittersweet and honestly one of the only choices they had if Chojiro was too injured to escape and none of them wanted to live without the other.

Overall, I really like Chojiro as a character but I think I found his route rather lacklustre. It wasn't bad, but I think the story wasn't able to build a proper connection between Chojiro and Enju before they separated in order for me to really empathise with their feelings towards each other, and so I feel like I kinda had to supplement it myself by understanding what kind of person Chojiro is. I enjoyed the dilemma Ennosuke and them had in regards to following the way of life for a shinobi and how that all ended up with the different perspectives of everyone trying their best to protect what was most important to them. However, I do think the deaths lacked impact, especially Kasumi's. I liked how Chojiro and Enju understood each other so well, but I didn't really feel the romance sadly, even though I liked how bittersweet everything was since they had to experience all these deaths that were so personal to them. The ending was pretty short in the sense that it felt like they just wanted to resolve it but not put too much thought into it, so yeah lol that was disappointing. I guess I mainly liked how they discussed the pain of being a shinobi and how Chojiro was only able to "wake up" from this responsibility after losing so many important things, but I honestly wanted something more? Considering he was the previous Iga leader's son, I thought there would be more about that, his responsibility to the survivors of his village and other stuff like that, but yeah oh well.

First of all (aside from eye reveal, yes i died after seeing haha) SAKI SUPRISES KASUMI. THE TABLES HAVE TURNED HAHAHA!! And Kasumi is in his costume, so focused in his minor task that he did it IN HIS COSTUME (? Actually haven't read properly but i think he's only about to do the task and saki goes wait your clothes— but i think he did a task beforehand too?? I'll get back on it later haha

Also, i dunno for other cards coz i currently don't have a bloomed but kasumi didn't have a card cg moment, meaning saki didn't see that eye peek, damn saki you're missing out 😔

Basically bakugou has 2 babies.

Deku and kaito.

Except when they get informed that Kaito may be quirkless its Deku who panics. What is kacchan doesnt want our pup anymore what if Kaito gets bullied what if-

Anyways had this happened and Deku not died kaito would have been a big brother to his little sister Kasumi Bakugou.

Kaito is 100% best brother

Poor Kasumi.

Anywaays kasumi does have a quirk but its her very own.

Everyone is expecting something explosive and it kind of is. In a sense.

Everyone thought she was quirkless because she didnt really. Do anything out of the ordinary.

But basically one day deku and bakugou were arguing and kasumi had enough so what does she do.

Stand infront of the two of them

Now kaito kind of wants to lead her away cause she baby but then hears the ungodly screech

Both deku and bakugou cover their ears bakugous quirk goes off a bit in sparks

Except kasumi isnt even moving her mouth shes just sitting there like ÓΩÒ

They of course ask her what that was about and she explains she screams so loudly (even louder than bakugou) that it travels through her thoughts.

Bakugou also discovers that for like the entire day he cant use his quirk.

Oop

Kaito isnt jelous his little sister has a quirk. Haha why would he?

Once kaito does get his quirk

Its basically the wonder duo again except deadlier.

Actually everyone asumes kasumi would be a villian cause what kind of quirk is that

But because of is she can actually paralize a villian enough to allow others to help

Can I just vent for a hot second about how much I LOVE how the plots in the older games, specifically the ones involving “treasure,” make at least some logical sense in terms of intent of the original creator and how all the components fit together?

TRT - Marie Antoinette had the tiara separated and sent off in separate directions and while it’s kind of attenuated that Hotchkiss and Jacques had theirs in the castle at the same time it fits together that Marie would then have in her journal the decoder for how to place the medallions in the correct spots and to dig at the purple rose to get the key for it, and then all the other puzzles leading into the tower were designed by Ezra Wickford who was just trying to block off a historical section of his hotel.

SSH - Henrik tracking down the pieces of the key to open to the monolith which the Mayans intended to keep locked forever because the Whisperer was talking shit, and Henrik has located most of the pieces but some Nancy can’t track down and has to use replacements(using that mold, and the replica that Prudence had) which makes sense that they work because the Mayans weren’t like designing some hella high-tech contraption anyway.

DDI - Hilda Swenson becoming a recluse after her husband died but still wanting to talk to someone who she thinks is capable and worthy enough who proves themself through unscrambling the text on the souvenirs she left for people she loved and contacting her via morse code.

SHA - LEGENDARY. Dirk Valentine leaves this series of puzzles for the woman he loves because he knows she loves puzzles and loves how beautiful she looks solving the puzzles. And even aspects like the “green bottle / under cellar stairs” note that Frances wrote to herself to find where she hid the letters from Dirk. I cry

CUR - Just a kooky ass family that assumes this meteorite has magical powers and carries on this tradition of every other generation creating a puzzle to help keep it protected but leaving all that’s necessary to complete it in the family home.

DAN - Homegirl Noisette was a CITY PLANNER so she was able to use the entire city of Paris + her own moulin as a means to find what she had hidden away to keep safe.

And then after this.... they get kind of bad.

Like they aren’t -horrible-

But they really do feel like a stretch. It kind of starts feeling like HeR had a formula in their heads for what a game needs(puzzles, secret passages, treasure) but forgot how to actually tie it into the plot in a believable way.

CRE - Dr. Quigley found this ancient nose ring that we get handed that unlocks a ton of ancient secret passages that also include a puff of air that can murder us?

ICE - Trapper Dan creates these insane secret passages that eventually 4 different coins obtained in various ways to get to his “needle” which is just like...a little hideout?

CRY - enough said

RAN - Literally no subtly or lead in. 10 minutes into the game we’re told we have to find some guy’s treasure for the kidnapper. O.K., I guess.

SAW - Instead of just communicating to her daughters that they can choose whatever career path they want Kasumi gives them each half of a nonogram that they can only solve if they work together using both halves to find a letter containing her wishes...but the necessity for the letter would only exist if they were having issues working together ??

ASH - We’re supposed to believe Nancy Drew has never discovered HIDDEN TUNNELS in her hometown before this point

MED - I’m not trying to be facetious with this game but there’s just so much that doesn’t make sense even with a replay and trying to be generous. Who made these caves? How did Jin know how to get through these caves? How did Jin draw cartoons that predict what would happen in the gameshow? Where did Sonny get the component parts used in the gameshow?

MID - hahaha..haha..ha...

I haven't written much about what I've been up to lately, so here's some word salad updates~ 🥗

NijiGaku Anime

So I started watching the new LL. I hadn't been keeping up with SIFAS' story, but I did read some of it when it first came out. I gotta say, I'm really enjoying all of the changes they decided to make for the anime version of the story, to both the characters and story. It's starting to feel like something coherent. The story in the game was ok, but the main thing that interested me was the interactions with Muse and Aqours, overshadowing the actual "plot" and even Nijigasaki themselves. But the anime really made me interested and excited about the story and characters again. I would be a little annoyed about the personality and dynamic changes, but honestly, I'm used to it by now. LL always ends up doing this sort of thing, and the personalities only seem to become solidified after the anime airs.

A little disappointed in Kasumi's change in some vague ways I don't really feel like describing, but honestly it balances out because Ayumu is fantastic now (previously one of my least cared for of the group.) Yu's personality is surprisingly super gay fun and I'm really excited for her and Ayumu's dynamic in particular. They're so cute. Seriously feel like I'm gonna ship them hard.

I also really like Rina's initial personality in this. Not only is she bad at expressing emotions through her face, but she also seems bad at expressing them through words too. I feel like this is gonna be much more interesting than her already being cutesy and genki like in the promo stuff and SIFAS.

When Karin was first shown, I had mixed feelings. At first I was like oh god I'm gay and she's beautiful. But the whole sexuality flaunting thing kind of put me off for several reasons I don't really wanna get into explaining. I really didn't know how to feel. I started liking her a little more during SIFAS, when she competed against Muse in DDR and lost... started feeling like I was getting a glimpse of her real personality without the whole sexy idol persona. Although not much has happened in the anime with her yet, she's giving me Nozomi vibes and I love it. I actually think if I had gone into this without previous knowledge of the characters, I'd be betting she'd become my fave for sure.

My list has gone from Kasumi > Rina > Kanata / Emma > Karin > Ai > Setsuna > Ayumu > Shizuku to Yuu > Ayumu > Kasumi / Karin > Rina > Kanata / Emma > Ai > Setsuna > Shizuku

Still biased a bit towards characters that have shown up more in the first two eps, so it'll undoubtedly change. But It's really interesting how much the characters I already felt I had good placements for changed so much.

Edit for episode 3, because I didn't post this fast enough. Student council speedrun was fantastic. Yu continues to be incredibly gay. I wonder how this episode will affect the ships people will gravitate towards. LL has always been a fairly monoship fandom, heavily gravitating towards specific pairs. Of course that's largely the fault of canon itself, often pushing and developing single ships. Well, I suppose we saw a big change with Aqours, though, especially with season two. But even then, the ships tended to stay at least between girls of the same year (aside from my rarepair, shout-out to YohaRiko.) Now, I wonder. From the very beginning, before Yu even had a name, it felt like they were really pushing the shippy stuff @ the viewer. I wonder if that’s still gonna be the angle. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it yet. I really want to see more YuAyu rather than YuSetsu, but I can't really be mad at more gay content unless they try to make it a DEEP story and then fail to resolve it but haha they'd NEVER do that, I'm sure!!

As for the others... I'm guessing they're gonna push RinAi, KarinEmma, YuuKasu, and maybe YuuShizu? My original guesses were that AiKarin would be a thing, evoking NozoEli v3. But I guess that'd be too predictable a third time. KarinEmma sounds like it could be cute and sweet, RinAi feels like it has adorable potential, and YuKasu vs. YuAyu sounds like it could have some good comedic rival-y potential, given they don't make Kasumi super serious about it and make it really angsty. Not that a cute idol show would ever do such a thing haha!!!!!

Higurashi Gou

Also started Higurashi. I doubt many people know this, but I used to be a major Higurashi fan before I got into Touhou. It was my main "fandom" I guess, even though there wasn't really that much of a fandom to interact with comparatively. Anyway, despite that, I didn't think I'd get into this remake super hard... but I'm really loving it so far. The art style is really pretty and eye candy, and it turns out it's a direct continuation of the story rather than a remake. Very excited to see where it's going, and also to see a lot of my baby Rena again.

An interesting difference to me as I'm rewatching are my feelings for Keiichi. While I don't hate him, over the years I've really grown tired of the generic male leads (especially in harem anime) like him. Of course, he's definitely not AS generic as they come, or maybe perhaps that's just my bias from when I used to really like him. The me back then found him unique enough to stand beside the girls. Nowadays, I definitely can't say the same. At least he doesn't grate on my nerves as much as most other harem anime protags do, however. I feel like despite lacking the quirks that make the girls so likeable and unique, he still has something going for him... perhaps the fact he's framed as inherently different from everyone else, because he comes from the city, and the way he acts a bit more realistically to the scary things that are happening. Although those things are obviously explained away later, at least for now I still accept him for what he is, old bias or not.

Genshin Impact

Been playing Genshin Impact religiously and loved every second of it. Though I've caught up with the main story content, so sadly it's slowed down. I'd never heard of this game before it came out, so I was absolutely wowed that such a game was f2p. I've heard a lot of people criticizing it because they added gacha in at the last minute, and I definitely understand being annoyed through the pov of someone who was anticipating it. But part of me is still really thankful that the game is free at all. I suppose that full but paid 60 dollar game would still be a better experience, but because of my non-existent budget situation, I may not have ended up playing it at all.

Aside from the arguably shitty monetization practices, however, the game is fantastic. It really is as similar to BoTW as people have mentioned, and I really appreciate that. BoTW, from a gameplay standpoint, is absolutely my favorite game. It's exactly what I want from any given game. So I really appreciated this. The story and characters of Genshin are also really interesting. I really like Qiqi, Venti, Fischl, and Xingqiu, among others. I spent a while rerolling for Qiqi or Venti 5*s, and eventually got an account with Qiqi. Venti on the other hand I've been trying to roll for but sadly haven't gotten. I have 1 roll left before the banner ends, so hopefully.. My friends whaled him for me. I swear I tried to stop them! I owe them my soul...

HoloLive, Pikamee & Vtubing

I briefly started getting into HoloLive a little while ago. After the Aloe stuff, I started worrying a bit about how the company handles these situations as well as the girls' freedoms and how much of their donation money they actually get.. (I made a post about it a while back.) After a while my worries died down a bit, but then came back full force with the Coco and Haachama situation. After that and one too many uncomfortable sexual jokes, I decided to just distance myself from HL. It's a shame, because I really enjoyed their personalities, but it was making me feel uncomfortable more often than not.

I told myself it’s fine, I’ve got Pikamee if I ever feel like watching vtubers again. And then like a week later... Well, it’s not really something I wanna talk about here, but she made some posts on twitter that made me too uncomfortable to continue watching her either.

On a much lighter note... A friend of mine showed us how to use prprlive and facerig to use the Touhou CB Live2D models, and Asa and I played around with Mokou, Kaguya, and Lyrica’s. It was quite fun, and I do look forward to using the Kaguya one for private streams on one of my servers. I’ve actually always wanted to try out vtubing stuff myself, but not really publicly. Of course, the costs for getting a model drawn and made specifically for me are too much for something I’m not really committing to, so this is perfect. I’m excited~

Touhou Cannonball & Kagura Thoughts

It’s been a long time since I talked about Touhou CB on my blog, and I’m pretty sure I left things on a pretty bad note. Mainly dissatisfied with Mokou’s portrayal for pretty shallow reasons on my part, despite they game having just started and having a lot of room to grow. And grow it did. While I quit pretty early in because of that, Asa decided to take over my account. She realized that it was pretty easy to upgrade any given character you had to a 5* without having to rely much on the gacha. She ended up playing a lot with the goal of upgrading everyone we had. I came back to it around July and actually had a lot of fun with it. The cast had gotten much bigger and we really enjoyed playing on multiplayer. It wasn't the best game ever from a gameplay standpoint, but it definitely had it's charm. The announcement of its death, although unsurprising, came at the worst time. Asa and I actually cried a little when we saw the announcement, ngl. The game had such good, wholesome, Touhouy vibes to it. Nonetheless, we made the most out of the last month or so after the announcement. We played a LOT of multiplayer and had a lot of really cute and good interactions with other players. Near the end, we realized that Lyrica was the only character from the normal banner we were missing, so we grinded like crazy (mostly Asa) to try to get her... we ended up getting a number of 5*s but none Lyrica... she eluded us to the very end. It was quite sad, but how hard we worked for it still felt satisfying somehow. We were able to max out our multiplayer level and complete a ton of goals we wouldn’t have otherwise.

So after this bittersweet experience with Touhou gacha, and all the scummy things I've been hearing about Lost Word, I've been thinking like... I'm done with Touhou gacha, at least for now. Don't wanna hear anything else about it for a good while. And then the 25th anniversary hits and they announce Kagura. Ugh. Please, give me a break. Needless to say, I'm gonna have to give it a try. Touhou is my life, I love rhythm games, I love Touhou music, and I love character collecting games. And I've been waiting for something to replace SIF gameplay in my heart for a long time. I'd banked my hopes on SIFAS but it's really barely a rhythm game so.... at least now that I've gone through CB's death and seen how cruddy LW is, I'll have lower standards and not get my hopes up too high.

Emily is the only one with living family, and that’s just her mom. Lisa and Quinn are Colonists, so they both lost their whole families(parents, 2 siblings, aunt and uncle for Quinn, parents and 3 siblings for Lisa) in the batarian raid. And Charlie’s Earthborn; his parents died when he was young and he didn’t have any siblings or extended family that he knew of.

Nebula - Who is your Shepard’s best friend?

Emily’s was Ashley(they bonded over growing up as military brats, God, and guns). Now it’s Garrus. They talk about pretty much everything, usually over a beer. Also trash talk each other’s combat styles and play Galaxy of Fantasy together (ps, Emily absolutely genuinely missed the sniper shot in ME3. She’s more human biotic grenade than sniper and it SHOWS), and he’s just generally like a brother to her. Kasumi’s a pretty close second; gotta have someone for girl talk. :D

Lisa’s are Tali and Jack. Tali bc tech nerd bonding GO, Jack because it’s always good to have a friend who swears at least as much as you. xD (I kid, I kid.) Lisa gets Jack’s attitude about the galaxy, figures she probably would have wound up the same if it wasn’t for Gabe. Jack doesn’t judge when she has to do less than morally upright things, she gets how much drive spite can give you.

Quinn’s (aside from Ash)was Kaidan, until fucking VIRMIRE. Kasumi’s the best friend he has by the end of ME2(and honestly, if he wasn’t super in love with Ash, he’d probably have had a bit of a crush on Kasumi, but the thought never even crossed his mind as things stand)

Charlie’s is Vega, by the end of the trilogy, he’s not used to actually getting close to people, bc he grew up in an environment where there were good odds of dying pretty much every day, then joined the military, where those odds stayed pretty much the same, so as long as he can trust someone to watch his back, he doesn’t really worry about getting “close”. Part of why things with Jack knocked him for a fucking loop. I guess prior to that he would’ve shrugged and gone “I dunno, Garrus?”

Dwarf star - When was your Shepard’s first kiss?

Emily was nineteen.She’s the type who likes things like that to Mean Something, so combining that with how much she was moving around up through high school meant she didn’t get a chance to really be in a meaningful relationship until after she was in the military herself. She got an eight-month rotation on a colony in the Attican Traverse, really hit it off the son of the couple who owned her favorite local restaurant, they went on a few dates(which was usually jogging or working out together or cooking), were just getting serious when she got reassigned, they decided to try long distance dating and so she kissed him goodbye. (Long distance worked for about a year and a half. Breaking up was mutual and amicable)

Lisa was seventeen(unless jokingly kissing Javi when they were ten counts. It was weird, and they were both kinda “ewwwww” about it, so she doesn’t think it counts), with her high school boyfriend.

Quinn... /cough Quinn’s was Ashley, so.... twenty nine. He’s very quiet and introverted, and biotics make people nervous, and he just never felt close enough to someone for a ~romantic~ kiss.

Charlie was fourteen. He did something reckless (”fucking stupid” the leader called it, but he was grinning, so clearly he approved) on a job that got a couple other Reds out of a jam, the one’s younger sister gave him a kiss in thanks for saving her sister’s neck.

Black hole - What is your Shepard’s greatest fear?

Haha. HA. oof.

Emily’s is failing. She hates letting people down,especially when it comes with a body count. She wants so bad to save everyone and do it the right way, and the fact she can’t, that it’s literally impossible, gives her nightmares for years.

Lisa’s is losing the people she loves again. It’s happened multiple times to her already, she really, really doesn’t want it to again.

Quinn tbh I haven’t figured out yet. >.>

Charlie’s is suffocating. Dying doesn’t scare him, long as it’s quick. But especially after Alchera, the idea of a slow death is terrifying.(”Been there, done that, do NOT want a repeat”)
