Kinger is a lot more toned down than i expected him to be! Genuinely a surprise! He was so sweet as well I love his scene with Ragatha,,, RAHH TOT
CAINE FUCKING SMOKES and-- man!! He stutters when hes stressed and panicked! Bahaha! I love how its the family friendly blunt too! With the toy bubble blowers!
bubble's "no thanks Im trying to quit" makes Caine and Bubble feel more like co-workers rather than " god and his creation", I have to draw Carnival bubble being so comically normal ToT
Also-- with zooble being exempted from the adventure-- im genuinely so surprised that Caine WOULDN'T force someone to go! I feel like everyone has headcanoned that the adventures are a lot more horrific and theyre forced to participate-- which we shouldn't be surprised with how everyone just didn't care in the first episode ToT
Zooble,, is a sweetheart.. yes.. this is good... Theyre not a stone cold person... They set up Kaufmo's funeral, put a hand on Ragatha's shoulder, said their own speech all sad... And they would ALSO willingly grab Pomni from her pit! Zooble ur stealing my heart TwT

FUCK IT, TADC EP 2 THOUGHTS
MAJOR SPOILERS!! BE WARNED
LETS GO!!
Pomni is still pretty screwed up over her first day here, I mean this is all fresh and new to her so like DUH. everyone else here is somewhat or entirely adjusted and kind of just cope with the fact that theyre here I dont think pomni has really processed how long theyve been here?? In the pilot she seems SO bothered by how okay they are with this and willingness to do caines fuckass adventures
i dont blame her, anywho pomni in her nightmare-induced state starts to abstract, she had to face an abstraction early on in her days here which like have to be pretty truamatizing (duh) and cried out to ANYONE, but where she called for help literally no one helped her “oh well” they though
Pomni doesn't feel like anybody else cares, shes the only one whos still going through an adjustment phase and freaking the fuck out while everyone else is just going along with the adventure, something she still thinks is kinda pointless and doesn't get why anybody would waste their time here doing when they COULD be looking for a way out, why is she the only one who seems to still be distressed here? To feel lost? At least from her perspective, it seems that way. Unfortunately, these people have already been here for a while.
Pomski then meets someone whos just like her, their whole reality was shattered and they don't belong anywhere, mirroring how pomni feels at the moment, even if she still has some sort of grip now vs when she first got here
And she finds comfort in that!!! Why is it that this NPC feels more real than the ACTUAL REAL PEOPLE trapped here with her??? Whatever the reason, its something to hold onto. Something to LATCH onto. Hes Real. or at least he feels real, and maybe she feels like she belongs with him because at least he knows the feeling, something shes not really felt w anyone else before
This comfort and solidarity she has with gumigoo is shortlived however as she gets brutally reminded that he wasnt real. The anchor she had vanished and there's quite literally nobody to catch her fall.
And i feel like ragatha trying to comfort her the way she did didnt help AT ALL. it was kinda a sore reminder that gumigoo is easily replaceable, and GOD thats so frustrating?? This thing felt so real to her and nobody seems to care that he just vanished!! If they could be so apathetic to this whos to say they wont just treat her demise just the same as she thought they would???
But then something important happens. They have a funeral for Kaufmo, someone whos been established to be their friend way before Pomni ever came here. And maybe it didn't ever settle in before that kaufmo was a real person! Literally!! And he was real to them. Just like gumigoo though less directly they relate to being in pain and kind of in shock of losing someone who they cared about and who was a real person to care about to them
AND LIKE YOU CAN SEE WHERE IT CLICKS IN HER FACIAL EXPRESSION HERE, THE CHANGE IN HER EYES AND THE WAY HER EXPRESSION LOSENS AT THIS IDK IT DRIVES ME CRAZY GOD THE ANIMATORS WENT OFF W THIS EP VS THE PILOT IM IM IM
anyways anyways They have their funeral service, theres quite literally no reason for anyone to just lie and go along with whatever bs caines got going on, this also quite literally has nothing to do with him. This is kind of their own little way of keeping some sort of human traditions and respect for the human persons that get stuck here because they care. HELL you can even see pomni feel a little guilty here when ragatha says that his funeral was disrupted cause she arrived here
anyways thats exactly it!! They fucking car!! This whole time pomni thought that they just didnt care and were kind of apathetic or downright patronizing her over all this and mocking her or whatnot, like in her dream sequence. But no, they all talk respectively about their memories and experiences with kaufmo, the things they shared together and the feelings they had. EVERYBODY was grieving. Ragatha who always tried to put on some cheerful and kind of irritating (to pomni at least) everythings fine facade (which also kind of feels less real to her at least i think so but i don't think she figured it to be a coping mechanism) to just straight up start crying and breaking up a bit, even mentioning how this does not ever get any easier and how shes had to deal with this plenty of times before.
Zooble the usually apathetic and kind of asshole who keeps to themselves and gives off i don't care energy and probably gave off the impression that they didn't care about anyone here and just treated the people stuck here as an unfortunate fact and nothing more actually being vulnerable and probably doing the same as ragatha talking about their memories with kaufmo
Kingers ALWAYS kind of zoned out or not really taking anything seriously and just being there completely lost in space, but here hes grounded, and even earlier in the episode when ragatha needed it most he remained grounded then too (tho pomni didnt see that i just wanted to mention it). Just like the others he grieves and lives in the unfortunate moment
more of the kinger being grounded when the thought counts
GANGLE- dude even if its for just a moment she smiles here despite having her tragedy mask and like her whole shtick is being of whatever mood or emotion her mask is allegedly wether she wants to or not, but no here shes more than just that, she smiles for a bit when reminiscing her moments with kaufmo only to go back into crying, and man shes always crying with her tragedy mask but its beyond as far as anyone can tell wether or not its really her or just because of her mask, but here? its really her, no matter what the mask on her face shows!! shes genuinely smiling despite having her comedy mask and shes genuinely crying which is very blatantly obviously different to the usual mask cry etc etc
heres something about all this, it hits pomni in a way. These people ARE real, and they care. They care about her, they have nothing else but eachother and THATS something to latch onto. Thats something to hold her down, even if they just met pomni
SPEAKING OF JUST MEETING POMNI she literally expressed how she didnt wanna just LEAVE gumigoo there by himself because she believes no one should just be left there
the circus peeps just met pomni and just like how she felt a real connection to gumigoo in this digital hell she feels a sort of connection with these people too. Theyre gonna have her back all the same, maybe she wont feel so out of place and alone.
BONUS THING!! The literal only times she genuinely smiles is when she feels this real connection to what feels real to her and has a genuine and sincere moment with these people whether it be an npc or a trapped member.
Idk it just means something to me how significant both these moments are tipped off with a genuine smile a REAL SMIE!! (id add pictures but tumblr has a 30 image limit)
OH ALSO BONUS BONUS THING THE DIFFERENCE IN OUTRO MUSIC IS SO IS SO ITS SO
the outro song for the pilot kinda feels so ethereal and out of the moment at least to me it kinda feels like it you're slipping through the cracks and just, existing within yourself as the rest of the world around you kind of shatters into glass or melts into water or something i dont think ANY of that made any sense but its loud and its blaring and its so out of reach in a way, mad disassociation vibes
but the outro song for the 2nd ep is a lot quieter yet its right there, at first it starts really small, lonely even. trapped by yourself but as the music gets louder and more instruments join in on the song it kind of has a comforting feel? bittersweet? even? its grounding ina way which is much different from how the first one felt at least to me lmao
and the comforting feel kinda only emphasizes what I was talking about earlier- the comfort in having that anchor of reality with having a real moment with these people and making that connection yk?
and like as i was saying at first the song starts off with just one instrument, at the start of the episode pomni feels utter alone and out of place even if these people here with here are stuck in the same situation as her, together alone.
but as the other instruments join.
in it kinda uplifts the song a bit, its not one sole instrument anymore like how in the end pomni feels that connection with everyone else, not so alone anymore idk jackshit about music theory so this is entirely a feelies talk instead of like- music lore? so don't take anything i say as like- idk some professional speak im just a nerd nerding about silly digital fixations

Thinking about TADC characters in this continuum.
On one end we have those acting like there are basically no consequences. It’s a video game after all. And if they do leave then there is no impact on what they did- so they can commit war crimes or whatever. And on the other hand if they CANT leave everyone eventually abstracts anyways.
Jax is on the FAR extreme in this side. He treats this very much like some video game players or with the view that since what he does won’t change anything why try. It isn’t REAL to him.
Zooble is closer in this category to a lesser extent because of their more “fuck y’all” attitude. Although nowhere near the level of Jax. For them though there is no point in participating in the games though because it won’t change the fact they’re stuck there. But they do show to care about the others, setting up Kaufmo’s funeral while the others are away. I think their attitude may be more “fuck the game not the people.”
Then on the other end we have the perspective that this is their life as of now, so might as well work with it. Here, it’s working with the system and getting immersed with the game/players. If they DO have to spend forever here, they should make sure their stay is relatively pleasant.
Here, Ragatha is on the far extreme. The kind way she treats the others, the way she really gets worried about Pomni being mad at her. The way she waves to the NPCs when arriving in Candy Kingdom and greets the princess.
Gangle is also here, because she is shown to care about others. She worries when Zooble gets taken, and cares enough about Ragatha’s opinion of her for Jax’s blackmail to work.
Kinger is over with Gangle too, because from what we have seen of him he does care about the others. Any we see him try to comfort Ragatha in episode 2.
With Pomni, I think we might see her progression throughout the scale. At the beginning she believes it’s a dream, and this belief she can escape causes her to worry less about the consequences in the world. Then with the end of episode 2, she’s likely going to float around in the left end for a bit, before slowly making her way to the right. Because if you can’t change the situation, you can change your perspective.

No because let me just ramble for a moment. Because i am still not fucking over this shit.
He's in anguish. He's in anguish and in pain and he's scared. He's scared because he knows its inevitable. Abstraction is imminent, no matter what you do.
There were probably dozens of other "people" in the circus, prior to pomni, or anyone else. Jax has probably been here long enough to watch it happen with the rest of the circus members. Just look at the bedroom hall, with the dozens of doors of the previous members, all since then gone. The many funerals they've arranged for them. Kaufmo included.
There was probably someone else, someone Jax tolerated for a bit. Someone he managed to call a friend. And that friend abstracted.
And Jax then realized that one day, it was going to be him, too. It was going to he everyone.
So instead, in hopes that he doesn't become the next one, he lashes out. He's cruel and ruthless with the rest of the characters, npc's included. So long he doesn't abstract - or worse -, he's going to be okay.
At least, he wants to believe that.

Well, now that that's outta the way...
This was a CRAAAAAAAAAAAZY EPISODE!!!
I can't express ENOUGH how much I enjoyed this!!
Here are some highlights/thoughts I had during my first watch:
The new GLITCH intro looked pretty cool!!
The dream sequence at the beginning was really good!
We kinda get to see how Pomni really felt through the first day in her dream. And her fist impression on the others...

I wasn't expecting this to take place the day right after episode 1, but it makes a whole lotta sense.
We already saw this in the trailer, but the part where Pomni glitches through that block lol
Ragatha tried to comfort Pomni even when she was abandoned by her <33 ALSO-

I got so hyped when Caine came on screen
I am so normal about him
Caine ominously stands for a few frames before starting the explanation of the adventure... hmm...
The maple syrup thing got me thinking (forgive me if I'm incorrect, but-) Isn't Caine's VA Canadian? If so it makes sense to have Caine and Maple syrup in the same room. (That was the first thing I thought of BEFORE the episode, btw)

Finally saw the new Amazing Digital Circus episode and AAAAASAAAAAAHAHAHHAHAHAH
Pomni fearing that no one would care about her if she died and feeling like nothing, only to befriend someone who feels the same way, only for them to fucking die.
But then, instead of ending on that tragic note, Ragatha comforts her, and its revealed that the reason Zooble didn't go on the adventure was actually because they were preparing a funeral for Kaufmo and pomni seeing that realises that these people actually do care about her
Ragatha fearing that Pomni doesn't like her and Kinger comforting her, revealing they have a history. But alas Ragathas remark reminds me somewhat of someone talking to someone who has dementia or something similar
Jax sitting out of Kaufmo's funeral and the show focusing on his expression when it's brought up, alluding to a possible history between the two. Or maybe Jax feels bad for not treating him better when he is alive, or maybe he's thinking about how he might not get a funeral when he dies, but he keeps drowning those worries by messing with everyone else
Also, Gangle might have a crush on Ragatha.
Like ignoring all memes, this show is great in legitimately every way

TADC Episode 2 thoughts
Imma Just dumb my little thoughts and catches from TADC episode 2: Candy Carrier Chaos

So starting off with Pomi's nightmare. Pomni at the start od this episode definitely is still stuck in a "trapped and alone" she feels as if no one here (and maybe in the real world) would care if she was gone.
I think this is because of the initial smoothing over of Kaufmo's death, but after seeing that the cast was preparing to have a funeral for him (which is kept secret from Caine 👀) she realizes that yeah everyone here truly does care for each other.
Also Jax both having a reaction to hearing about the funeral (his split-second sad expression) and his not showing up for it hints to me that his want for violence throughout the episode is his coping mechanism.
He wants to let his emotions out through violence rather than sadness to try and protect himself from the painful feelings 🥺(I speculate that either Kaufmo was important to him or someone else that was died and this reminded him of their death)
Pomni's heart-to-heart with Gummigoo is what ultimately makes her feel better about being in the circus (well until he dies. RIP) I think talking to someone that is in a similar situation to herself helped her to make sense of her feelings of hopelessness. being the voice that she needed to someone else helped her in the end.
What the fuck did Caine mean by he would lose track of "who is and isn't an NPC"? HAS HE DONE THAT BEFORE AND KILLED SOMEONE? If he cant keep track of many people then why are there so many rooms? why not just have rooms for the main cast and do away with the old member rooms if you don't want to add anymore?
What was the "figurine incident", Jax? 👀
Im glad we see that Zooble really does care. they set up the funeral themself and even spoke during it 🥺I love them more now.
Ragatha trying so hard to make Pomni feel better is so endearing but she really does not know how to comfort someone lol

TADC PART 2 SPOILERS INDER THE CUT (spoilers for characterisation and the plot outline + major events) (long post ahead)
The way Jax being portrayed as a legitimate asshole who doesn't care about the NPCs in quests just makes him so much more INTERESTING to me
Like everyone's reactions to the adventures sums up the different reactions to distractions in stressful times. It's like...
Okay, so the Circus is presented as some sort of world, without meaningful consequences, right? Throw a bunch of people into a world without consequences (like,,, videogames irl) and you're going to get a bunch of different reactions to it!

Ragatha presents as an individual who wants to use the adventures that Cain presents as a positive distraction from the existential horror of the Circus itself. She is even acknowledged to have a history of issues surrounding the nature of The Circus from when she first arrived (evidenced by dialogue in the show, too lazy to pick specific examples, but she acknowledges it herself, source: trust).
But at the end of the day, she is a member of the system. She treats the adventures as what Cain presents them as, just adventures. She refers to the people that exist in the world as NPCs. NPCs that she treats kindly, and with respect, but one's that she is disconnected from, as shown when Pomni expressed distress at the loss of Gummigoo. Stating that Cain sometimes reuses NPCs, so it's "not too bad".
So in a world without consequence, she strives to do the adventures/quests in the "right" way. Heroically and all that jazz.

Jax on the other hand is someone who is also using the adventures as a positive distraction from the circus. While he presents in a nihilistic, unbothered way, it's clear from his responses that he greatly cares about what he can "get out of" The experiences the Circus provides.
After all, why would he be so disappointed that The Fudge was destroyed, if he truly didn't care about anything? He does care. He just wants something different out of the adventures. He wants destruction, a sense of control.
His behaviours reflect many disenfranchised peoples ones when in crisis situations. Presenting with a lackadaisical attitude, and getting joy out of things they can control. After all, most people wouldn't want to have the Fudge come and destroy things, so he gets to take agency and make the decision without anyone else getting pleasure from it.
Is it right? Probably not. But in a world where there are no consequences, it makes sense that he would watch a city get destroyed for the joy of it.
We also see moments of vulnerability in Jax outside of his frustration when things don't go his way. He expresses a moment of sadness at the mention of Kaufmo's funeral service, before he forces himself back into the mask of indifference and disgust.
Ergo, in the face of a non consequential system, Jax says "fuck it, burn it all down"

Zooble also represents typical responses to distraction methods in the face of adversity. With uncaringness. Their refusal to participate in Cain's adventures (unless explicitly forced to, like in episode 1) reflects a complete disconnect from the offered mechanisms that Cain provides.
After all, why participate when it doesn't mean anything to you? Zooble presents as the disinterested individual, who, similarly to Jax, does care about events within the Circus, but does not desire to use the coping mechanisms that it provides.
In the face of a world without consequence. They do not care for it.

Kinger presents an entirely different coping mechanism from his peers. Kinger, underneath the pressures of the Circus, has disconnected from the reality around him. While he has moments of clarity, and even shows interest in things people say, it seems to be filtered through layers of dissociation and uncomprehending.
When asked direct questions, it's a toss up whether he can 1) hear the question 2) comprehend it correctly and 3) be able to respond but only once.
He's shown to have a depth of knowledge, but it's out of his reach. And when faced with a world without consequence, he doesn't seem to fully grasp it. Instead, going only for the ride.

Gangle is an interesting case, where her fearful personality pushes her to agree with the sentiments of those around her. What she believes in seems to be kindness, but it's difficult to tell how exactly she feels about the adventures, and the Circus, as she often reacts to what others do, rather than pushing herself to the forefront.
Case in point, while driving, Gangle appears very nervous, and when Jax comments on using violence against the croco bandits, she doesn't directly go against it. Instead, she makes a small comment about violating a convention. Not "that's wrong" or "I dont think we should do that", but a reflection of law and order.
We haven't really seen her without the pressures of external influences (particularly Jax). So while we can make some assumptions about her intentions (she probably doesn't want to hurt people) it's difficult to see deeper reasoning beyond "not wanting to upset anyone".
So, when Gangle is presented with an adventure with no consequences, she reacts to it, rather than enforces her own will onto the environment.

And finally, Pomni.
In a world of no consequence, she finds them. She does not fullt accept the narrative Cain constructs, that the adventure is inconsequential (a distraction), that there is no exit.
She gets presented with a "fact" (I.e., there is no exit), and immediately (either through her own determination, or chance), finds deeper meaning and alternate paths.
There was an exit door. True, it didn't lead to the outside world, but it existed. Pomni proved that. She continued for ages, down paths of endless corridors, to prove that everyone was wrong, until she found the void.
The mission was to stop some bandits and get the syrup back? She instead fell through the floor of the map, and found friendship in what was meant to be an NPC with no consciousness.
Pomni is the person, that when presented with an impossible situation, finds ways around it.
Cain is the one who takes her progress and resets it. (Taking her out of the void, popping Gummigoo)
While we can't be certain of Cain's intent just yet (beyond being a representation of/being the system that the characters are stuck in), we can ascertain one thing.
Pomni, when faced with a world without consequence, finds that there is in fact, a cost to the world

okay i was gonna wait to post this cause tadc episode 2 only came out yesterday and we didnt all watch the premiere live (i did ehl oh ehl) but i know im gonna forget if i dont so if you dont want some spoilers then just dont read this theory/prediction post <3 kisses hugs
ive held, since the pilot, that of the main three of tadc (pomni of course, and then jax and ragatha) it will not be pomni or jax who abstract, it will be ragatha. and i still stand by this!! its foreshadowed that she is going crazy under the surface and barely staying above it, and i think it would be dramatic for the nice girl whos friendly to everyone to become a scary monster. but now, since ep 2, i think i know what will become of jax
my theory/prediction is that jax is an npc that slipped into the circus and caine missed 🤪
evidence:
obviously, the idea of npcs getting in and caine losing track of whos a person and whos not is introduced in ep 2, so there is a foundation for this idea
after that foundation is built and everyone goes to kaufmo's funeral, there was a camera focus on jax as he didnt go. i assume he doesnt go to anyone's funerals, but the focus on jax at this point draws a connection between the npc thing and jax, and also separates him from the rest of the human players
when the hands grab pomni as shes falling in her nightmare, jax's hand isnt there. again, this could just be because jax isnt at the funeral, but it shows that there is something different about jax that sets him apart and makes him important. it also shows that jax will not be there when bad things happen to the others---maybe because he is found out and killed by caine, maybe because he'll run away, maybe because he'll turn on them, whatever. its not as simple as him not caring---even zooble's hand was there, and their whole thing is not caring about shit---so its important and i think plays into the idea hes really an npc just trying to not die
theres also his whole thing with keys. this is a real stretch, but in lots of video games, npcs are the holders of keys, the ones who allow entrance to objectives by giving you keys (whether by you taking them or them awarding them to you). the impossible ease with which jax can obtain keys could be part of his code as an npc; he can always get them because thats his purpose
now as a counterpoint you may say "if jax is an npc why is his model not in the area under the map that we see?" but of course his model isnt there, only the models for the candy world are
so anyway! my predictions for tadc going forward are that jax is an npc, ragatha fucking dies, and pomni never experiences joy hooraaaayyyy
