one thing about thancred and ryne is that i think they BOTH project onto the other to some extent. thancred's treatment of ryne is obviously very impacted by how he relates her to minfilia. but as evidenced by fatebreaker - "dread hope" - ryne's perception of thancred is also colored by her other father figure / protector. ryne had already grown up knowing about the other minfilias before her and being told she would never measure up and the best she could do was stay in her cell in the cavernous jail under eulmore. by the time thancred rescues her, she already fully believes she is an inferior version of the girls/women before her, and thancred's close relationship with the PEAK minfilia makes it very easy for her to perceive their relationship as thancred begrudgingly taking care of her because she's the closest thing to HIS minfilia. and while that's a little bit true, it isn't anywhere near the whole truth, i don't think. (and obviously none of this is "her fault" - she's an abused and traumatized child with an unimaginable burden on her tiny little shoulders. of course that's gonna effect how she sees the world and the people close to her)
i really wish we got to see/know more of ryne's "before" wrt her character arc - what was her life of captivity in eulmore like (thank you e11 for the crumbs)? what did she know how to do when thancred first got her out - how actually "helpless" was she, what skills did she lack, what basic knowledge of the world was she ignorant of? and (my favorite): what was her and thancred's relationship like before the WoL arrived on the first? because the WoL arriving on the first was the cause of her running away to go find them in an effort to Be The Original Minfilia, and i do think that that incident affected how thancred behaved for a lot of shadowbringers. the fear from her getting captured again by her abusers! the turmoil over that being a clanging alarm that she is getting close to Her Big Existential Choice!
and in the end, both of them meet with who the other saw in them. ryne chooses to continue to live, even if she doesn't totally feel like she deserves to, even if she isn't the strongest minfilia, even if it's difficult and painful. and the original minfilia embraces her and gives her a bottle of hairdye and is finally able to rest. and thancred basically dies to keep ran'jit from having control over ryne, and is reborn as A Better Dad. and then (because while ran'jit is thancred's foil, thancred also operates as one for emet-selch) he accepts and embraces ryne as an individual person who of COURSE deserves to live. who, while not his first sisterdaughter, is regardless beloved family to him. who he is glad did not sacrifice herself to bring back his mostly-dead glory-days loved one. and then he gives her a name that has nothing to do with their relative traumatic pasts - just their shared time together as a family unit (with urianger. but i don't need to go into That subtext with you)
literally mountaingoats_lovelovelove.mp3 love is gonna lead you by the hand into a white and soundless place. now we see things as in a mirror dimly. now we see each other face to face

I can't stop thinking about the horror and dread that floods Odette, learning more about the cycle of Minfilia's on the First.
The idea that the woman she loved so deeply sacrificed herself* to be a mouthpiece for the Mother Crystal, and then again to save what she could of the First. Only to be reborn again and again and again and die again and again and again. And die YOUNG! Die as GIRLS! Then to learn the current Minfilia has been kept under locked and key in Eulmore of all places. Just like when Minfilia was taken captive by the Garleans she feels her love turn to fear and fear to anger and, like then, it threatens to block out everything else. At this point she still doesn't care to be touched -- her lovers are an exception, always, because there is a build up to it -- so Prudence and the Twins can feel the shift in their Warrior of Light. Feel the horror be encased in icy, precise rage. And they just fall in closer around her. Not touching! But closer, enough that she can feel the heat of their bodies against her unnaturally cold one.** Close enough to remind her she is not alone, she is never alone. Close enough to remind her that she is not the only one to miss Minfilia.*** And then to have that gut punch followed up with "Rumor is someone spirited her away! like a fairy tail!" and she just shares a look with the twins. Of course it's him!! Between that and her companions closing in, Odette lets the rage melt away. As best she can.
Into the rock tumbler everyone goes.
*something odette has always longed to do, sacrifice herself for her goddess or the star or those she loves. Part of her grief is that Minfilia did this without her. But, of course, it had to be Minfilia and Odette had to stay behind.
**unnaturally cold because she's dead, she's ashkin, she's a living dead girl. i mention this so much so people know and if they don't wanna deal with the lore bendy of it all they can leave quietly ***though Prudence never meets Minfilia but she joins the Scions shortly after this loss. These people were a fucking wreck. She remembers that.

(I realize, half-way through Heavensward, that I still have this in drafts so I'm going to post it now)
Finishing A Realm Reborn, I've decided to make a post about my warrior of light's relationships with the scions/major NPCs, which I'll then recreate at the end of each expansion as a fun way to track how she and these characters grow and change.
Without further ado - Cimorene Geneq's POST-ARR Relationship Vibes
Minfilia - her boss! a very nice boss, don't get her wrong, but her boss nonetheless. Would love to get to know her better but there's never a good time plus she feels like Minfilia is probably the type to be like 'you have to be at least a level 5 friend to unlock my tragic backstory' and Cimorene is like level 3 at best. still likes her though.
Alphinaud - the younger cousin that's closest to you in age that everyone groups you with at the family functions. She would kill anyone who looked sideways at him - and got very very worried about him when the Bloody Banquet went down - but also oooof did she want some space from him sometimes.
Y'shtola - at first incredibly intimidated by her, but that's faded and now she's probably the only scion she would call a Friend. still in like the work-friend sense but like, she would get a drink with her and listen to her talk shit any day of the week.
Thancred - an instant infatuation that faded just as quickly once she realized his charm was mostly surface level lmao Is a little unsure how to interact with him post-lahabrea nonsense as, more than anything, it drove home that she really didn't know him that well beforehand and, like with Minifillia, she feels like there's a barrier keeping her from knowing him better.
Tataru - I, Tangy the player, had a Boring Office Job for a while where the highlight was the very sweet receptionist who also knew all the fun gossip. This is what Tataru is for Cimorene. absolute joy to talk to, want nothing but good things for her.
Yda - a little too high energy to be a work-friend like Y'shtola or even Tataru, but similarly wants nothing but good things for her. will take her side when Papalymo gets on her for anything - in part just because it's kinda funny to watch his reaction when she does.
Papalymo: I, Tangy the player, adore him and therefor so does Cimorene. he and Yda were her first scion allies and she will always have a soft spot in her heart for that.
Urianger - he gives her the heebie-jeebies. he has nothing else to give.
Moenbryda - too good for this world. Cimorene is sad about her death but is also sad about the fact that everyone else is obviously SADDER about it. It's not the first time she feels somewhat isolated from the other Scions, but it does kinda push her to want to change that. (Then the Bloody Banquet happens lmao)
(outside the Scions)
Kan-E - similar feels-like-my-boss energy as Minfillia, except Kan-E isn't even Cimorene's boss. Respectful professional distance and happy to keep it that way.
Merlwyb - Cimorene loves the sea so she chose to join the Maelstrom for that alone. That being said, she does like and respect Merlwyb a lot and doesn't think she'll ever regret her choice.
Raubahn - Didn't know what to think of him early on, and already didn't like Ul-Dah BEFORE shit went down there. Regrets not getting to know him better earlier now that she knows he's a Real One (tm). Cares about him a lot by the end of... you know. Everything.
Nanamo - Man, Tangy the player doesn't know how to describe the relationship between you and someone you, once again, had a respectful but mostly distant relationship who then winds up getting poisoned in front of you, completely altering the trajectory of your life. And neither does Cimorene.
Haurchefant - Love At First Sight, genuinely. I've talked about this so much before but I cannot stress enough how much it took me, Tangy the player, by surprise. she knows he feels the same because as we all know he is Not Subtle about it, but she'd also still really like to have a moment of privacy where they can actually say - or do - something about it.
Aymeric - right now she considers him the Ishgard equivalent of the other city state leaders and, in spite his best efforts she knows, she remains somewhat intimidated by him. he's kind but just. Very Formal. in that very Ishgard way that she doesn't know how to respond to (which is in part why she is so taken with Haurchefant)
-
that's really the main ARR players that Cimorene has any real strong feelings towards so that's where I'll leave it.
We'll see what happens through Heavensward and I'll post again lol

This is actually one of my favorite ARR cutscenes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think A Realm Reborn’s shortcomings share a lot in common with Stormblood in that the narrative IS actually good... but it ends up a bit disjointed and struggles to keep a consistent pace. I already gave my spiel about how much I love the Ifrit battle but it’s really the sum of the parts that matters. The entire Ifrit questline is great because it’s one confined narrative. It’s story has a full arc.
The investigation into the disappearances, establishing an ambush with the Immortal Flames, the betrayal, fighting Ifrit, knowing the empire is biding it’s time, and then this cutscene just wraps it all up so well. Being thrown all over the place and only getting some random moments with the Scions could get frustrating, making them feel like set pieces. So it was refreshing to do an entire mission with Thancred, have him not show up when you needed him most, and then watch the aftermath of that. Of course, it also helps set up his susceptibility to Lahabrea. But it was a great scene. He goes from showing his vulnerability with Minfilia to going back to his usual confidant swagger with the wol. They had been through enough, he didn’t need to burden them with his issues. Yet he still felt responsible enough to tell the wol the ugly truth about the soldiers that were tempered. How he feels the weight of these actions and the loss of Luisoix’s guidance.
I just loved the whole thing. It was the first time I really felt engrossed in the characters and what was going on. Because, let’s be real, the beginning of the wol’s journey can be a little rough and all over the place.

For the third and final time, we return to Eden.
Tumblr media
Oh no, it appears that the Empty is degenerating again. Possibly due to too much light?
Tumblr media
Gaia hears the spooky voice again, urging her to restore the darkness, which she thinks is actually the solution to our problem of too much light. Sounds good to me! What are we going to summon?
Tumblr media
Please tell me we're not going to try and summon Zodiark. That would be very bad.
Tumblr media
Oh phew. The Cloud of Darkness. Much better. Hey, is this a primal or the actual voidsent?
Tumblr media
Check it out! We made the giant crystal gay.
Tumblr media
Oh shit an Ascian.
It turns out, Mitron here is the identity of the voice that has been speaking to Gaia her whole life.
That part's not especially surprising.
The fact that he is Eden, on the other hand...
More accurately, Eden is what remains of his former body after having been transformed into the first sin eater. He's been reaching out to Gaia because she's the only person who could hear him while the world was bathed in light, and he was trapped in his body unable to move. He's still trapped in it, but our work has allowed him a small measure of freedom.
Tumblr media
He's explaining that he was in charge of safeguarding the First from the light that was... So apparently, the Thirteenth becoming the Void caused the First to become overabundant in Light. And Mitron was in charge of holding it back... and then Emet-Selch had a plan to rejoin the first, so Mitron was carrying it out, but was slain by Ardbert and his companions... and I think I remember Emet telling me about this... hang on.
Tumblr media
Aha!
Wait.
Mitron isn't saying "we" as-in "we Ascians", he's saying it as-in "you and I". And he's talking to Gaia.
Mitron is implying that Gaia is the reincarnation of his fellow Ascian, Loghrif.
Well that's a mindfuck.
Tumblr media
Well shit. So it turns out that Ardbert did directly cause the flood after all. By causing Mitron to be mutated into the first sin eater and desiring to banish the darkness, he triggered the flood.
Minfilia saved the world by halting the flood of light, and by restoring to Mitron a measure of consciousness, though he remained in the state we found him in - trapped and capable only of whispering.
When I returned the darkness to Norvrandt it granted Mitron a small measure of power, enough that he could compel Gaia to attack Eden in an attempt to kill it and free his soul. Our efforts have further restored his abilities and now he's wholly (mentally) himself once more, and able to project his soul out of the sin eater he's still trapped inside of.
He wants us to meet him inside of Eden, so that he can help Gaia "remember". Bad idea guys. Bad idea.
Tumblr media
Aaand Gaia has forgotten Urianger and Thancred. We have tea(?) and tell her about them before going to parley with the Ascian.
Tumblr media
Mitron steals Gaia, and forces us to reenact the climactic battle against the Shadowkeeper that preceded the flood of light.
When we return, Mitron is strongly implying that he and who Gaia used to be were more than just work colleagues to each other, and then...
Tumblr media
Yep. Gaia is Loghrif. Though she doesn't remember.
This is fascinating. It shows that the Ascians we defeat can be reborn again as normal people. (Does that mean there's now three unsundered souls waiting to be reborn? Maybe two... it looked like Elidibus got absorbed by the Crystal Tower) It also shows that the timeframe for rebirth is not necessarily immediate, as Gaia appears to be under 20 years old but Loghrif died over a century ago.
Anyway.
Tumblr media
Gaia no longer remembers Ryne.
Tumblr media
Oh. I have seen this before.
Tumblr media
Time for an Echo vision! Mitron and Loghrif as newly awakened Ascians. Seems they were romantic partners? How interesting, to be able to see Gaia in both her incarnations. The similarities and differences between the two of them. How interesting also, to get a look into the process of Ascian ascension as well.
Ascian Prime creates a summon from Ryne's hopes and fears and, well...
Tumblr media
It's a Thancred and Ranjit combo monster. And he's hot.
Tumblr media
Infuriated at our victory, Ascian Prime attempts to purge Gaia's memories of Ryne, and their relationship. They are trying to create a utopian moment out of time, eternal and without impurities. They decide to become one with Eden, to live free in peace for eternity together, and transform into our final boss.
Tumblr media
There is such a thing as too many titties.
Er. I mean.
This was a really cool fight where we had to protect Gaia's memories of Ryne and her new life.
Tumblr media
We rescue Gaia, but she won't wake up.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Gaia is speaking with Mitron, who is upset that they are to be parted once more. But Gaia reminds him that he is now free of Eden, and free to be reborn anew. And she gives him hope that they will meet again, in another lifetime.
The he's gone, and Gaia is alone in the darkness. She walks until she collapses from exhaustion, whereupon she finds the necklace she and Ryne made, and remembers Ryne's name. This allows Ryne's voice to reach her.
Tumblr media
Ryne cuts her way into wherever Gaia is with Thancred's gunblade in a super badass move. They reach for each other.
Tumblr media
And then they're hugging in an explosion of greenery, as all the aether Eden had been absorbing is released in its death, and returns life to the Empty.
Tumblr media
It's really beautiful.

I don't even go here
Releasing two Final Fantasy XIV theories into the wild:
1. A possible explanation for why potential for the Echo is evidently so much more common on the First than the Source: In order for the starshower to awaken the Echo/Ancient memories, the subject has to be aetherically descended from one person who witnessed the Final Days. For a native of one of the shards, this just means the soul/soul shard always passed intact through the Lifestream and was reborn rather than going through the aetheric cryptocurrency tumbler mixing with other souls and redividing. But for a native of the Source, this requires that plus every rejoining attaching a matching shard to a single-ancestor soul on the Source. And that's not uncommon, souls tend to do that, but even if that happens 90% of the time, even six rejoinings gives a less than 50% chance of it having happened every time. Plus, any of those soul fragments having dissipated and recombined makes it impossible. Azem is a special case which is particularly prone to finding themself; Minfilia, Krile, Arenveld, etc. just got lucky. All the non-Echo-having Scions may be majority shards of one Ancient, but not entirely.
1a. Why did all this Echo potential did nothing whatsoever to keep anyone on the First from being turned into a Lightwarden (or Sin Eater in general)? Because it's not just the Echo, it's aetheric density.
2. Beings physically identical to all the playable races (except possibly Hyur) and every nonplayable race present on both the Source and the First existed prior to the Sundering, as creations of the Ancients — familiars, experiments, someone thought it would be cute, what if a shark but sapient, just because. They also were propagated with the "new life" after Zodiark's power boost, and some portion of them would have been sacrificed in an attempt to restore the lost Ancients had the Convocation's plans gone through. I'm undecided as to whether Sundered Ancients were reduced into previously-absent Hyur or just sort of… splattered across the available bodies at the time, but either way shards of them could later reincarnate into any race (including nonplayable ones).
2a. The Unsundered were probably pretty horrified to observe this.
2b. Either through Ascian intervention or through lingering influence of those first Sundered Ancients, this provides an in-universe explanation for why Hyur/human is the most 'normal' and greater departures from it are othered.
2c. On at least one other shard and very possibly also in the Source's history, Miqo'te, Viera, and especially Au Ra and Hrothgar were just considered beast tribes.
Apologies if these theories are already well-known and/or thoroughly debunked; I'll see myself out.

"#well every final fantasy is canon to it#up to pre-16 since i dont wanna re-write stuff#but like... the ff5 ova? canon#all the bravest? canon#world of final fantasy? you'll understand alexander more if you know it"
That is awesome! (Not that I'm a sucker for anything that mashes the whole series together or anything.) Tell me more?
OH MY GOD I RAMBLE ABOUT IT SO MUCH ON PLURK BUT TIME FOR A PRIMER
So.
Ficverse/Espersong Saga. Began as my silly 'Sunderedswap' for Ascians, since I wanted to make a slightly different Eorzea. And Minfilia as WoL. Just a simple FF14 re-write.
Note: One of the sunderedswaps is a VA joke, the other is a pun. (Nabriales - who was Balthier back when Ivalice existed. Mitron? Well. I am amused at the pun Mitronbryda and it is so funny.)
(I also wanted to put some sundered souls in Scions, because Emets' soul being inside Thancred is funny, and then Sundered Lahabrea getting so pissed off and trying to possess him to wake him up.)
(Mitron also has been doing stupid stuff, like. Splitting soul in half so half can be with the sundered Loghrif and the other half can do Rejoining Stuff. Nabriales, meanwhile, is just getting freaked out by the fact several former FF12 souls have been reborn and maybe they'll figure him out?)
And then I sprinkled in Dissidia mostly, but then added more. Alexander, for example, being this high and mighty deity? Mixing that with 14 Lore has been so fun! Alexander meddling with time and trying to reconstruct worlds after Dissidia Shinryu devours them. And then claimed an avatar and well, they call it enthrallment because what else could it be? And then Ardyn is sleeping with Solus (it's not romantic, they just both miss their partners.)
And then me sliding in some of my other AUs and making them work in this Big Universe. It's just. My Passion Project and has so many funny facts.
I did begin writing and publishing it before 6.0, so some things have been re-worked - but some haven't. Damnit I chose a role for the Heart of Sabik, I'm keeping mine. But the Endsinger, for example, gave me the chance to be like 'okay shinryu hasnt eaten this world yet because got distracted'.
Also a link to the collection.
But like lmao you know how good I am at thinking of how FF things can go together. I helped you, after all!

Okay, Omega and Hildi are cool and all, but they pale next to this patch's lore bomb. During the Custom Deliveries, Ameliance says: "*For years*, I've supported my children from afar as a sponsor of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn". They're finally moving away from the time bubble :)
They really aren't.
Ameliance supporting the Scions for years isn’t new information. It was a major reveal in the 6.0 harbor scene (”Bonds of Adamant(ite)”). Tataru tells us that Lady Leveilleur has "supported us from the shadows since the very founding of the Scions, ere we even had coffers to fill...” to the shock of Fourchenault and the twins.
Per Louisoix's plans, Minfilia formed the Scions in the immediate wake of the Seventh Calamity from her own organization--the Path of the Twelve--and the Circle of Knowing. The Scions were operating for five years before the Warrior of Light arrived, before the twins came of age and formally joined themselves. Ameliance simply remained involved in her father-in-law’s endeavor.
The Time Bubble Issue The time bubble, much as we may (or may not) hate it, is here to stay. When asked at FanFest (concerning changes to Meteor's appearance through the cinematic trailers), Yoshida said he "assumed some time, maybe a few years, have passed,” but he will not give a set timeline in the game so that players can determine their own timelines for their Warrior of Lights' personal stories. He seems to answer this question at a couple panels and FanFests, actually.
Rule 1 for Yoshida was regaining and maintaining the playerbase trust after the fiasco of 1.0, hence the constant communication and responses to feedback. Corollary to that is giving players agency in regard to our personal character stories (as much as the on-rails MSQ allows).
The time bubble is also there for the developers so they can handwave any time passage to vague days, weeks, months, or years, the way people in real life will guesstimate times they don't precisely remember. This keeps them from having to keep track of aging up all the NPCs--not just the kids/teens. The start of A Realm Reborn remains the baseline regardless because it’s the only exact time we have (five years post-Calamity).
So has time passed in game? Yes of course it has; just by travel alone, as for example we know there are canon timeframes in the Encyclopaedia Eorzea of “at least a fortnight” by sea to get from Limsa to Sharlayan, and "two moons” by sea from Limsa to Doma (remember, the game world is a compressed abstract for play purposes), when one cannot teleport. We know characters on the Source have mentioned vague time passing (days, months, or years) during quests text, in and out of cutscenes. Characters have had all sorts of personal development that takes awhile to stick, and/or have to take time to recover from various injuring events. We know that the game has not taken place "all within one year" per Yoshida (though some try to claim that everything in game so far has, thanks to not grasping how the “time bubble” works as a developer tool and starting point for players).
But also per Yoshida we do not, will not, get a canon timeline for how many years have passed, as it's not convenient for the devs and it removes agency from the players.
If anyone tries to say that they or someone else have worked out an exact post-ARR canon timeline, or that they think that devs are removing the time bubble based on some of the many vague time references in game, then they're talking about their own headcanons or mistaken.
We don't gotta like it, but it's there for a purpose and unless the director himself flat out states "we now have decided it has been X number of years exactly since the start of ARR" do not assume that the bubble has been lifted. It is there as a developer tool and starting point for your own WoL storyline. Vague, contradictory, general guesstimates of time using the start of ARR as a baseline are all we're going to see canonically in the game and short stories.

Another thing that fucks me up about Thancred & Ryne's relationship through most of shb is that Thancred KNOWS hes messing up he KNOWS hes making tons of mistakes with how he deals with Ryne. He knows full well but doesn't do anything about it. He knows he should reassure her but he doesn't, and he probably doesn't even think he can. Because he knows it won't be completely genuine (and Thancred doesn't even know how to be genuine to begin with) and Ryne is too smart to not see that. And because Ryne already has such a low view of herself she'd never accept his words even if they WERE genuine. Because she still knows that Minfilia means more to him than she does.
And Ryne knows that he's fucking up the entire time too. She knows that he's stressed and grieving but she also thinks she knows his feelings better than she does. Ryne assumes a lot about Thancred, she fills in the blanks between everything he doesn't say or do, but she always fills them in negatively. To her, the default is ALWAYS going to be people wishing she was someone she wasn't, because that's all she's ever know (Vauthry saw her as just "the Oracle" and Ran'jit saw her as just another "Minfilia"). She knows Thancred knows she's not Minfilia, but she thinks he wishes she was (and she's not really wrong, but it's not correct either).
And Thancred is scared to say anything, because he doesn't want to decided her life for her, because he knows Ryne's life is her's to do with as she pleases, but in doing so he inadvertly pushes her towards the option no one really wants. Minfilia doesn't want to come back at Ryne's expense, Ryne doesn't want to just be "Minfilia" for eternity, and Thancred doesn't really want to lose Ryne either.
It's only as the final decision is at hand that Thancred really shows that he DOES care about her as an individual person. It's only after Ryne has already decided to take her life into her own hands that she gets to understand, just a bit, of how he really feels.

Introductions
A wild Urianger appears! Arielle’s initial thoughts of the Scions being good people with a good cause are further confirmed as she is introduced to them and vice versa. Perhaps she is finally finding the direction she had been looking for in her life. . . .

11. your OC’s description of their game’s events
Hello! Thank you @strafethesesinners for sending this in! I did create something that was along these lines as admittedly it was something I was wanting to write for a little while as it was. But it is within game events. So that being said have a little bit of Carly during the events of A Realm Reborn towards the end of it. If you know the parts I’m quoting then congrats you have played these instances just as much as I have!
Anyway! Enjoy Carly for a full 1.2k! No warnings and spoilers for A Realm Reborn.
Her thick heels clank against the metal as she walks forward shaking her head, clicking her tongue. “Messy, messy, messy,” Carly says, eyes piercing at all the destruction, “And not even the good kind.” She stops, crossing her arms and popping her hip, looking down at the fallen legatus as he gives a half-hearted groan, “God you look pathetic like this, Gaius. Oh how the mighty self-absorbed fall.” She gives a light kick to the man’s stomach, “Maybe next time don’t enjoy the sound of your voice so much?” She shakes her head, “I could never imagine being around someone who talks as much as you. ‘Only a man of power can rightly steer the course of civilization’,” she says mockingly with a snort, “‘For none among you have the power to stop me.’ Puh-lease.”
The sudden change in pressure of the air around her induces an eye roll, “All this power and he still couldn’t wield it properly. So much for the strength of man.”
“Well that’s what you get for entrusting it to a man, La-ha-ha.” Carly’s smug smile leaves when she takes in the Ascian’s vessel, “Did you really have to deprive this world of another pretty face? You could have had anyone in the world and you chose Boy Toy?”
He lets out a growl, rolling his eyes, “Easy pickings and the best way to hurt those Scions.”
“You mean, Minfilia. She’s a soft heart, you didn’t need to go to such extreme measures.” Carly bends down picking up Gaius’ sword, looking it over, “Real tragic, especially because you know that warrior of theirs is going to have no choice but to kill him or leave him for dead. Personally I could never trust him so I’d just leave-.”
“By my understanding they are yours for the taking,” Lahabrea’s frown deepens, crossing his arms, “and yet you’re dawdling.”
She gives the sword a twirl, stabbing at the air in front of her, “You know this asshole passed me over for that Livia woman? She was subpar and mediocre at best. I wouldn’t have failed you.” Carly purses her lips a moment, “Then again if you hadn’t passed me over I wouldn’t have the position I do now.”
“Carly,” he snaps, the young woman cocking a brow as she slowly slides her gaze towards him, “Hydaelyn’s champion is getting away as we speak.”
“Oh damn, guess you better get a move on then. I want to gloat just a little longer.”
“I would hate to see you disappoint.”
“Me? Disappoint?” She laughs, throwing her head back, “La-ha-ha I never disappoint. And I wouldn’t have had you not lost my only objective for being in this dump of a desert in the first place.”
“But the-.”
“Is a you problem. Not mine. So go and be a good little underling and capture that big, scary warrior everyone keeps talking about.” The Ascian growls, Carly clapping her hands in tempo when he doesn’t leave, “Chop, chop, La-ha-ha. You wouldn’t want little ol’ Emmie to hear how much you fucked up this time. He might just finally send Stasia your way to put an end to your little reign.”
Lahabrea growls, eyes narrowed to slits, “That brute of yours can’t protect you forever. So I will take care of this myself, seeing as you find yourself incapable.”
“I’m not incapable, I just don’t have anything to prove,” Carly gives a scoff, “Besides I like a bit of a challenge with my fights and they seem more to your level of skill.” She waves him off, giving the legatus one last kick as she steps over him, “Now if you don’t mind, I’ve been away from my beloved long enough. Because unlike you, we actually manage to do our jobs correctly the first time.” The Ascian grinds his teeth, metal claws digging into the palms of his vessel’s hand drawing blood, “Till next time La-ha-ha, if there will be one.”
Lahabrea takes a deep breath calling out, “Prove it to me then. Prove to me that they are of no challenge for you.” Carly stops, looking over her shoulder, “I don’t believe I have ever seen your skills put to use when it so clearly seems Lord Zenos does most of the work.”
“I hardly know you, I have nothing to prove.”
“Don’t you?” He teleports to stand in front of her, “I know what the people say about you. Know that they do not believe you are capable of even swinging around that little sword of yours.”
The blade slices the air, sharp edge finding a place against his throat, “Bite your tongue, or I will make sure this one and every body you have after will have none.”
His lips curve, “Tell me, Carly, what would Stasia say if you let Eorzea’s Champion get away to fight another day?”
Her jaw locks as she tosses the legatus’ blade into the fires, “Give me five minutes. I’ll have your stupid champion on their knees in front of you.” It doesn’t take her long to climb high enough to spot the warrior attempting to navigate the maze of destruction. She watches and waits as the warrior stumbles closer towards her until finally letting herself jump down with a flip landing on her feet with ease. She looks up with a smile, “Eorzea’s Champion I take it?” Their eyes narrow, body starting to angle away, “Guess I’ll take that as a yes.”
Carly lunges for them, hand catching hold of their fist, twisting their wrist. They hiss in pain as Carly sweeps their legs from under them, free hand clutching their throat. Her nails dig in as they gasp, flailing to get a few hits that hardly faze her with their weakened state. She pushes them down, hand clinging to their throat and knee on their chest to hold them in place as she tears a line of fabric from the warrior’s clothing. “See this is what can be done if you don’t like to hear the sound of one’s voice so much,” she grumbles as she fights with the warrior to get one wrist tied. Once it is she stands quickly turning them to bind the other behind their back. “Ah, there we go!” She laughs as she watches them struggle to break free, pulling out a dagger to place against their neck.
“Keep fighting and this,” she whispers in their ear, letting the blade slice their neck enough to release blood, “will find its way deeper into your neck.” The warrior lets out a low growl as they stop struggling, “Good little warrior,” Carly purrs, “I’m glad to see you know how to obey. Now walk.” Carly guides them to a clearing, looking around a moment. “Oh La-ha-ha! I have a present for you!”
The Ascian appears before her, red sigil masking their face a moment to reveal bared teeth, “They’re alive! Why are they still breathing, Carly? Incompetent-.”
“Tis the blessing of light that confounds you,” she responds in a exaggerated deep voice, before pushing the warrior forward so they land on their knees, “I never said I would kill them, La-ha-ha, just that I would have them in front of you on their knees within five minutes.”
“I am ordering-.”
“I do not take orders, especially from you. I told you already, this is a you problem. So fix it. Should be easy enough for you now since ‘your enemy’s shield has been broken’.” Carly turns, waving as she finally makes her way out of the Praetorium, “Ta-ta, have fun with your little pet, La-ha-ha.”

In From The Cold - lvl 83
Endwalker - lvl 83
Aftermath of the In From the Cold quest. This is HUGE lore for Wolfram and so includes a brief summary of the story so far.
CW: Mental Health, PTSD, mention of thoughts of self harm (no actions)
Wolfram Saga Comics (Chronological)
This is the script for a future comic. Posting for those who don’t want to wait to get the story. Numbers indicate frame number. A/B mean a frame is split.
Zoomed out shot of a shack in Garlemald. Raubahn walking up to it. Narrator - "The Road So Far - Nineteen years before the events of A Realm Reborn, a 21 year old Wolfram had summoned a hellhound into himself in a misguided attempt to fight the Garleans. It killed the soldiers as well as his village (including his own family) before his grandmother was able to suppress it (dying in the process). Ever since he has heard a voice in his head and being around void energies caused him to feel as though he was losing control over the voidsent - sending him into a panic or even causing him to lose consciousness. At 25 he met Raubahn Aldynn and they were together for two years. Revealing his past to Raubahn resulted in them breaking up and not seeing each other until the events of A Realm Reborn, 13 years later. Wolfram never told anyone else. Minfilia and Ysayle were shown via the Echo but kept his secret to their graves. He and Raubahn worked through their past and were good friends through the events of Heavensward and Stormblood. Their friendship ended when Raubahn (emotional after the patch 4.1 conversation with Nanamo) confessed his love for Wolfram and told him he wanted to be together again. Wolf rejected him, stating that the voidsent was too dangerous for him to be with anyone. Raubahn was devastated and has been cold towards Wolfram ever since. Raubahn went through a brief depression until speaking with friends. In doing so he saw the benefits of talking to other soldiers about their struggles and started a small support group of Ala Mhigans. He and Raubahn barely spoke during Shadowbringers and while they did have a conversation after the meeting forming the Grand Company of Eorzea that cleared up Wolfram’s reasoning so that Raubahn was no longer angry at him, it did not mend their friendship. Wolfram started drinking heavily again in Stormblood to quiet the voidsent’s voice but has started cutting back since the end of Shadowbringers. Now, following the fall of Garlemald, Zenos has just returned Wolfram's body to him after possessing it. The experience was especially difficult for Wolf given his past experiences with possession.  Zenos has departed and Wolf has retreated to a small shack near the camp after requesting some time alone. He managed to contact Raubahn via Linkpearl before completely breaking down.”
Wolf sitting crouched against a wall in his small clothes, shivering and staring blankly at the ground in front of him. Mumbling - "never again…. I said never again…never –". Off screen - "Alright, I'm here. Thank Rhalgr I had a skilled pilot on hand."
Close up shot of Rau's face, annoyed - "So what is it? What's so important that I was the only one you could call?" Thought - ‘...he doesn’t need to know I was already on the way.’
Wolf, staring at the ground, wide eyed - "It's gone."
Rau worries when he sees Wolf - "What's gone?"
Wolf, eyes wide in terror - "You don't understand - *it's gone* but - *the voice* is still *here*. " Points to his head. Dark Thought - "You thought it would be that easy? You'll never be free from me."
Rau concerned and confused - "Oh… um let's not worry about that right now. Where are your clothes? Let's get you warmed up." Thought - 'What is gone?! What voice?! Gods, he just needs to cover up before he catches a cold.'
Wolf points across the room - "I… I had to check."
Rau - "Here. Check what?" Hands the now standing Wolfram the clothes. (camera at Rau’s back to avoid making a prop)
Wolf, looking haunted, standing buttoning his pants, Rau standing behind him facing away. "Last time… last time I was covered in slashes and bruises. I had a conjurer in Gridania heal the wounds so there would be no scars."
Touches his right eye, eyes wide looking at nothing "All save this… it could have been one of the Garleans… or my father's chakram. I’d rather not know…but I left it as a reminder."
Rau turns around, worried - "Wolf please, you're not making sense. What happened? Are you talking about the voidsent? Did it take control somehow? How are you still…you?" Wolf is now wearing his sweater.
Wolf gives an unhinged laugh - "Voidsent?! What voidsent?! Apparently it’s just me in here! Isn’t that hilarious!”
Rau, worried, walks up to him and tilts his chin up, forcing Wolf to look him in the eyes. “Look into my eyes. Listen to –”
Wolf steps away, still laughing - “No no! Really I’m fine. I’m great! I’m –”
A) Rau, annoyed, crosses his arms - “Wolfram - are you drunk?” B) Wolf, grinning, gives a thumbs up - “Aye, but only the usual amount!"
Rau worried, pinches the bridge of his nose in frustration - "Seven hells Wolfram! Tell me what happened!"
A) Wolf starts explaining, angry, gesturing wildly - "Ok - you want to know what happened? Zenos happened.” B) Wolf looks away, angry - “That sick sadistic bastard. He possessed me somehow.”
Close up shot of Rau reacting with A) shock and then B) fury. Snarls - “HE DID WHAT TO YOU?!?! Where is he now?!”
Wolf angry, gesturing wildly “Aye, he ripped out my soul, stuck it in some garlean soldier’s body. Then took mine and he… well I don’t know what he did I was fighting for my life.. But I found him at the camp and you know what that cunt was doing?”
Wolf furious, eyes tearing up - “TALKING! He was just talking to them. Didn’t even have the decency to attack until I was close enough to stop him! He did it all just to fuck with my head.”
Wolf makes a sort of pleading face and starts crying - “Rau the - the things I pictured him doing to them as I rushed to the camp in that weakened body… It was everything I had done to *them*… to my family.”
A) Rau, shocked. B) Rau, worried, pulls Wolf into a hug - “Seven hells… I’m so sorry.” Thought - 'I should have been here. Damn me trying to spare my own feelings - making excuses about duties I could have passed off to another Ala Mhigan leader…'
Frame of Rau holding sobbing Wolf.
Tumblr mandated break.
Rau’s eyes go wide as realization hits - ”Wait he… he *possessed* you...”
A) Rau breaks away, looking at Wolf, beaming - “Wolf, that’s great!” B) Rau’s face falls into a sympathetic smile - “I mean - apologies - I meant he couldn’t do that unless –”
Wolf smiles sadly, drying his tears - “Aye, unless the hellhound was gone.” Dark Thought - “Where did it go? You need to get it back. So weak without it…”
Rau looks concerned - “Then why are you so upset? There is more going on with you than anger towards Zenos or one of your episodes. I’ve not seen you like this before…”
Wolf, worried, points to his head - “The voice is still here. I thought it was the voidsent…that’s what it said it was anyroad. All these years I tried to ignore it. Sometimes it was quiet but it was always there waiting. And it still is…”
Rau, concerned, keeping his hand on Wolf's shoulder - “Oh… what does this voice say?”
Wolf, embarrassed, blushes and looks away - “Dark things… sad things… Usually taunts me. Feeds my guilt …or my rage. It… tries to make me hurt myself.”
A) Rau smiles sadly - “Oh, that…” Thought - ‘Thank the gods for that little group… I believe I know what he needs to hear because of them.’ B) Rau embarrassed - “I hear a voice like that on occasion as well. It started the first time I sent men into battle to die. Got worse after Ilberd took my arm."
Wolf shocked - "You do?! Do you um…have conversations with it?"
Rau looks a bit uncomfortable - "Only a few times…mostly when I was Ilberd's prisoner. It’s not as if I had anyone else to talk to in the cell. It sounds similar to what you’re going through …but I’ve always known it was my own mind."
A) Wolf beams at him. Thought - ‘So it’s not only me?’ B) Wolf masks his joy with a concerned smile - "I'm sorry Rau. That must have been a very difficult time."
Rau shrugs, looking uncomfortable - "I survived it… Anyroad, I believe it is a voice that plagues those with a burdened soul…”
Wolf beams hopefully - “You mean… I’m not mad?”
Rau grins teasingly. “Oh, you most certainly are, but you're not alone.” Thought - 'And he's free of the voidsent somehow…'
Shot of them hugging in the shack. Rau smiling - “Is there anything else you want to know? And…do you have a coat around here somewhere?” Thought - ‘Not that I mind having an excuse to keep him warm.’
