Your Pain is My Pain
"This is a bad idea, Annabeth."
Despite his words, Malcolm didn't try to stop Annabeth as she packed one last item- a bottle of water- into her backpack. She hitched the bag over her shoulder, debating whether or not to knock some sense into him. In fact, she was gearing herself up for a rant.
"Annabeth." Malcolm's voice was weak. "We shouldn't."
He looked exhausted- his face was a pasty pale color, dark shadows circling below his eyes. His blond curls were tangled and messy- not in the attractive way that girls seemed to faun over, but in a genuinely horrifyingly filthy manner. He looked as if he had been resurrected from Tartarus itself.
Annabeth changed her mind on the rant. She softened her voice. "You need to see her, Mal." The use of his old childhood nickname seemed to startle him; he stared at her for a moment, then sighed heavily.
"Okay."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Annabeth wasn't entirely sure when Malcolm's mother had fallen ill, exactly. She knew it had taken less than a few months of vomiting and nosebleeds for her husband- Malcolm's stepfather- to wheel her off to the hospital. But beyond that, Malcolm hadn't told her much. He'd kept her illness....not secret, exactly, but he'd withheld most details, even from his closest friends. Even from the rest of the Athena cabin. Even from Annabeth herself.
She wasn't an expert on family; her childhood had deprived her of that experience. But Malcolm was the relative she loved most dearly, surpassing even the other Athena kids. They had grown up together at Camp Half-Blood. He was younger than her by 2 years, but he'd always felt the same age, if not older. She had learned to fight monsters and wield weapons alongside him, to swim in the lake and play Capture the Flag with him. Most of her formative years had been spent in his presence; most of her formative memories were with him. They were each other's closest confidants; she had told him things she had told not even Percy.
So it had hurt when he refused to talk about his mother. It had stung bitterly.
Was this a sign they were growing apart? Ever since the Titan War had finished, things had been...different, between them. Not bad, exactly, but she didn't like it. They had stopped Iris-Messaging each other, had stopped sparring together in the arena. They had stopped talking altogether.
She had meant to make amends- she had arrived at Camp Half-Blood for winter break that year, determined to rekindle their old relationship. But then Percy had gone missing, and Jason, Piper, and Leo had arrived at camp, and then a quest on Argo ll had been issued- the whole fiasco. She hadn't seen him again until August, when she arrived at camp to stop Gaea from awakening. Then she'd been preoccupied with Leo's death (or alleged death, anyway) and rebuilding from the damage the battle had inflicted and playing diplomat for the Romans. Too many things to do, to worry about.
Excuses. That was what she was making, and she knew it. But Annabeth refused to blame herself- after all, Malcolm could've come to talk to her, if he really needed to. She'd always made it clear she was available for anything, should he need it. And he knew it...didn't he?
"Annabeth." Malcolm's voice drew her back to the present. The taxi had stopped; the driver was looking over his shoulder expectantly. Both of them seemed to be waiting for Annabeth, who was obviously zoned out.
"Sorry," she said hastily. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a wad of cash, then handed it to the driver, ignoring Malcolm's protests ("Annabeth, you don't have to pay!"). "Is this enough?"
The driver grunted in affirmation. Annabeth pasted a smile on her face. "Thank you, have a nice day!"
She climbed out of the car with Malcolm, who seemed annoyed and a little embarassed. "I could've paid," he said crossly, as the car sped off into the line of traffic.
"I'm your big sister," said Annabeth. She looked at him, frowning. 'I could've paid'- a sentence she would've used regarding an acquaintance. Had they really grown that far apart?
Like he knew what she was thinking, his eyes- stormy grey like hers, but rounder and wider- darted away to the ground. "Chiron'll be pissed if he finds out we snuck out of camp," he mumbled. "It'll be stable duty for a month."
Annabeth snorted. "I've snuck out of camp plenty of times and he's never caught me. Have some faith." His mouth twitched and she felt a surge of triumph. Even now she could still make him laugh- small victories. She turned to the building in front of them- New York City's hospital, Lenox Hill. "Ready to go in?"
His face hardened, any trace of amusement vanishing. The weary expression from before returned. "I...I don't think I can do this," he admitted.
She reached for his hand, entwining their fingers. "Sure you can," she said, mustering confidence into her voice. "You're Malcolm Pace, co-head counselor of Athena cabin and war veteran of Camp Half Blood's bloodiest wars. You can do this." To her relief, her words seemed to bring back some color into his face. He swallowed hard.
"Alright. Let's go in."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Whoever Annabeth was expecting, the actual Mrs. Pace was not it.
She had thought someone so ill would look frail and pale and weak. But Mrs. Pace looked healthier than ever- she had no problem smiling or moving or...doing anything, really. Her voice wasn't hoarse or whispered; it was loud, strong. Full. Uncannily similar to Malcolm's.
She had greeted Annabeth with startling excitement. "Malcolm's told me all about you," she gushed, shaking Annabeth's hand far more enthusiastically than Annabeth had expected a chronically ill woman to. How was it that someone who looked so healthy was so sick?
Malcolm looked embarassed. "Has Claude come by today?" he said, referring to his stepfather. He loved to change the subject. It had always been his go-to tactic for uncomfortable topics.
"Oh yes- he was here only half an hour ago, I think. You just missed him." Mrs. Pace settled back into her covers upon her bed, still smiling. "Would you two like anything? I can ask for a nurse to bring you some snacks. Maybe some of those Thin Mints? I know those Girl Scouts cookies are in popular stock right now."
"We're fine, don't strain yourself, Mom," said Malcolm swiftly. Annabeth nodded along, strangely unable to speak. She found herself envying their easy dynamic; even after all these years, she had yet to come close to something even remotely close with her father.
She hated herself instantly. She didn't have the right to such thoughts- not while Mrs. Pace was dangerously ill. It wasn't fair. They obviously didn't have it easy.
"So, tell me, dear," said Mrs. Pace brightly, after a few moments of unsettling silence. She seemed untroubled, unfazed, as if this was an ordinary visit from her son. "How is camp? Have you talked to that boy you mentioned recently?"
Annabeth's brows shot up. A boy? She glanced at Malcolm, who flushed a deep red. "Mom," he said, in an exasperated voice. "He's not- we're not-" He caught Annabeth's eye, blushing. "It's not what you think."
"Sure," Annabeth said, grinning.
Mrs. Pace smiled knowingly. "How're things with the Romans?" she asked, switching topics. "Everything okay?"
Annabeth started- she hadn't realized Malcolm had confided so much in his mother. In fact, she'd forgotten altogether that Malcolm was one of the few demigods to be close to their parents.
"Fine- there was a situation, a few months ago, when they came to visit and played Capture-the-Flag. But we settled it," Malcolm spoke casually, and Mrs. Pace nodded along.
The horrible envy struck again. How did they have such an easy relationship? Annabeth struggled so much with her father, and her mother...after the Mark of Athena, she preferred to avoid the matter entirely.
"That's good. That's...." Mrs. Pace trailed off, face contorting strangely. She jerked, then burst into a daunting barrage of coughs.
"Mom?" Malcolm looked alarmed. "Mom!"
But Mrs. Pace waved him off. "Fine!" she gasped, slumping back into her pillows. "Don't- worry!"
Malcolm took her words in the opposite manner. He whipped around, face anxious. "I'm going to get a nurse," he said, and darted out of the room before anyone could stop him.
Mrs. Pace wheezed, then reached out and grabbed Annabeth's hand with a surprising (and painful) grip. Annabeth found herself not minding at all. "My dear- please take care- of Malcolm," she gasped. "He's- my only child. I love him."
Dread snaked into Annabeth's heart. She squeezed Mrs. Pace's hand, feeling helpless as she watched the woman struggle. "Mrs. Pace...you're not dying, are you?"
The only answer she received was a retch.
At that moment, Malcom hurried in, a nurse at his heels. "You two need to go," the man said, and Annabeth let go of Mrs. Pace's hand. She quickly pulled Malcolm out of the room with her and closed the door, her heart twisting at the hacking coughs from inside.
Malcolm's face was stark white. "Oh my gods," he said, his voice high and reedy. "I knew she was bad- but I didn't think-"
It was the look on his face that made Annabeth decide against voicing her suspicions about his mother's deteriorating health. She reached for his hand, threading their fingers together as she had outside of the hospital. "She'll make it," she promised. "She's strong."
Malcolm's shoulders were shaking. His eyes were suspiciously bright. "I can't...gods, Annabeth, I told you I couldn't do it." His voice broke. "I told you, damn it."
In that moment, she understood, just from his tone only, that there were no words in the world she could've said to console or soothe him. There were no words in the world to protect him from the deep, aching sorrow he was experiencing. She pulled him into a tight embrace, and he buried his head in her shoulder, sobbing, surrendering to her touch.
"I'm sorry, Mal," she whispered. She hoped he understood that this apology was not just for this but for their bond that had frayed for the last 2 years. That they were growing up and experiencing the bitter taste of life.
"I'm so sorry."
---------------------
very overdramatic ik but hey i'm a sucker for angst. and i'm very much whipped for annabeth/malcolm sibling relationship fics.

what's a thing you love and don't talk too much about it as you would like?
Agsvdjnk I think I talk a lot about everything I love
Lets see, stuff I love but don't talk about every single day?
I love tigers!! They're one of my favourite animals I think they are so gorgeous. I also just love cats in general, they make me so happy.
I really really really love the late 90s Disney channel cartoon Recess. It's so well written and underrated and the characters are so much fun and well rounded. And it's sweet and down to earth and funny and AA!! I think more people should rewatch.
I have a long running special interest in Peter Pan. At least the idea of Peter Pan. There's plenty of elements of the adaptions that I am very fond of but I've spent my life on the hunt for a twist on the story that scratches my brain in a very specific way, like the 2003 version did. And one day I'll either find it or I'll make it myself.
Fairycore/fairytale/princess vibes stuff makes me very happy.
Anne With An E gave me intense brain termites it's so good!!! I've never read the original green gables books, but I'm really really attached to this show and their own take on the story. The bonds that are formed between the characters are the main draw for me, especially the friendships and found family.
I've seen Malcolm and the Middle so many times that its bascially just brain sedatives for me. I am so attached to that chaotic idiotic asshole family.
The Six of Crows duology!!!! Those books are SO good, I recommend to everybody who wants a series that will put their heart in a headlock. (There are more books in the series but personally I like to end the story with the duology. I've seen enough.)
It's not for everyone but I also love the Folk of the Air series. Just cuz I love toxic unhealthy insane dynamics, and also biblically accurate faeries.
Bojack Horseman is another comfort show, like Malcolm, except the vibe is wildly different. I love shows with an almost whiplashy balance between silliness and raw bleeding devastation.
Cardcaptor Sakura but everybody already knows that
FRUITS BASKET!!!! BRAINROT BAIT IF YOURE NOT NORMAL ABOUT CHARACTERS 🗣🗣🗣
Craig of the Creek!!!! Cutest cartoon I've ever seen, I love it so much :D!!!
There's this one show called A Man Who Defies the World of BL that I think is so so funny and I've watched it many times. It's about a guy who has discovered he's a background character in a yaoi manga universe and he's fighting for his life not to become a main character. Dodging hot men's advances left, right and center.
Lilo and Stitch is one of my favourite movies of all time!!! Especially Lilo and Nani!!!

as promised, heres my review of the generation sex show at the dog day afternoon festival: very good and very fun!! interesting to hear someone who isnt johnny sing pistols songs but i think billy did a great job. ppl went utterly insane for all of the pistols songs they played and sang along very loudly to them. ppl were pogoing for their lives. they played pretty vacant, bodies, god save the queen, black leather, silly thing, and my way as well as some generation x songs like dancing with myself, your generation, and kiss me deadly. they started with pretty vacant and ended with my way. ppl cheered a lot for steve and chanted his name! it was a lot of fun!! there was a malcolm jumpscare on the big screen behind them for some reason
sounds amazing!! god i wish i went - generation sex were also at glasto but i think the bbc only uploaded their rendition of god save the queen. ironic asf. but a big thumbs down for the malcolm jump scare, does not sound fun lol but i’m so happy they played black leather, underrated banger. them playing my way is a little interesting, i’d have loved to see billy’s take on it. anyhow he looks so fucking cool these days, he’s not changed one bit and i love people like that, who just keep rocking their own way and live life how they want to. love how people still appreciate steve! honestly i think people are so focused on sid & john that we forget about how genius he actually is. cheers for your review!! i’m glad it went down so well and you had fun!!

15 and 47
Hi! Thanks for sending these in! ♡
15. OCs or no OCs?
Definitely, definitely, definitely OCs! It seems like I'm constantly inventing more of them, and I must say I quite like my collection of personal blorbos. Imagine if I ever put them all in the same fic, eh? Maybe it wouldn't quite be the crossover event of the century, but it'd sure be something. Although I'm honestly not sure how I'd fit them all in: there's Miguel, Beth, Pips, Joyo, Jader, Angela, Theo, Kenji, Nick, Todd, Sophie, Heidi, Ash, Farida, Kenneth, Amir, Alina, fucking Darren, Giordana, Malcolm, Bradley, Tamia, Dan, Basil, Shuji, Dominik... and believe it or not, I think I forgot a few.
So, to get back to the question: yes to OCs! All of the OCs, evidently.
47. What fanfic of yours is truly underrated?
The phrase 'truly underrated' had me stuck on this for a bit, because... well, I'm honestly really happy with the reception of basically everything on my ao3. I've written on other platforms in the past, and in other fandoms, and the amount of comments and enthusiasm and just response in general has really varied. So comparing with some of my own past fanworks, I really feel like my current stuff is being appreciated and loved a whole bunch, and that’s a lovely thing.
But okay, the task here was to highlight something underrated. I answered something similar to this for a recent tag game, but I'm gonna go with different fic for this, because I'd love to highlight something that I absolutely adore and that did get a very nice response, but that isn't anywhere near the top of my personal ao3 stats: fuck around and find out.
This fic was months in the making. I wanted to get the pivotal conversation in it just right. For all of you who have vibed with my previous fics that have featured deep conversations about sex and intimacy and kinks (typical examples include Shameless and Talk Dirty To Me), this fic is definitely for you! It’s about Liam and Pez, which is a home-cooked ship that you'll love once you get to know them, and in this two part story they talk about sex, and what they want from each other in bed, and why and how they want those things, and there are some really soft and trusting moments between them as they open up to each other. Let me show you an excerpt:
“I’m maybe not the greatest at asking for things,” Liam finally admits.
It’s half a lie, half the truth; Liam has never been good at asking for the things he wants. Or at least, he’s always found it so much easier to ask for those things in reverse.
He hadn’t even been completely honest about all this stuff with Spencer. Not that sex with Spencer was ever bad; sex with Spencer was good. Really good. And once Liam had finally managed to bring a couple of his secret fantasies to the table — although not in the exact configuration he’d have preferred them — Spencer had been more than willing to try. They’d even picked out a few of the ropes together, placing their order from one of those discreet adult webshops and throwing in some flavored lube while they were at it.
Once they’d gotten down to it, and Liam had found himself with his hands tied to their headboard while Spencer hovered above him with an awestruck look on his face, all Liam had been able to think was: that must be quite a view.
Still, Liam had definitely enjoyed himself that night, and all the other nights when Spencer had retrieved the rope from their box under the bed. But never, not even once, had Liam worked up the courage to ask Spencer whether he’d be interested in switching places.
Spencer had never brought it up, either.
But that wasn’t why Liam had ended things with Spencer. There had been a million little things that had all pointed towards how the two of them didn’t really fit. Spencer had always needed more reassurance than Liam knew quite how to give. It didn’t seem to matter how many times Liam said it with his body, with lingering kisses and trailing fingertips and precise, practiced thrusts; what Spencer really needed was more words.
Liam has always been shit at words. But he’s very good at caring, truly and deeply, and for a long time he’d thought that could eventually be enough.
For Spencer, it wasn’t. But maybe, for someone else, it could be. And oh, if only someone would let Liam take care of them the way he only allows himself to imagine in the privacy of his own bedroom, with a steady hand wrapped around himself and his eyes squeezed tightly shut. If only someone would ask Liam for all the things he so desperately wants to give.
See, that's the vibe. That's what Liam struggles with in this one, and that's what Pez helps him to finally figure out and get right. I'm so fond of this story, and so completely thrilled for every person who loves it as much as I do. ♡

Alec Burks (Detroit Pistons): A veteran with scoring and defensive versatility, Burks provides mentorship and scoring punch to the young Pistons.

Luke Kennard (Los Angeles Clippers): This sharpshooter spaces the floor for Paul George and knocks down open threes with laser accuracy.
Isaiah Hartenstein (New York Knicks): Don't be fooled by his modest scoring numbers, Hartenstein's advanced stats reveal a smart passer, skilled finisher, and defensive anchor.
Jordan Clarkson (Utah Jazz): Embracing his role as a high-powered sixth man, Clarkson continues to light up the bench and bring energy every night.
These 14 players are just a taste of the hidden talent lurking beneath the NBA's bright lights. Summer is right around the corner and so was an special Jurassic Park 30th anniversary of Jurassic June. So I'll tackle this entire segments dedicated to Steven Spielberg, Universal Studios and Amblin Partners' most celebrated and beloved sci-fi/action blockbuster franchise and other dinosaur contents. Today, I'll tackle NBC's infamously bad serialized sci-fi drama which the show premiered on September 2021, some are praised but most of them angered, laughed and disappointed that sends an bad messages to teenagers, Latino people and people dealing with anxiety issues because it was badly acted and extremely problematic. Today's episode is LA Brea: Guilty Pleasure or Telenovela Ripoff? The world is suffering tragic consequences... From racial riots due to the death of George Floyd and other black victims by toxic racist policemen to almost plunged the world to World War 3 in Muslim countries thanks to former president Trump's stupidity to covid pandemic that caused poor people sick and eventually died either natural or Karens' bad mistakes to watching extremely bad and toxic/anti-Hallmark romance movies in Poland on Netflix to January 6th insurrection, people will watch general entertainment for escapism. Unfortunately, 365 Days trilogy are not alone. In the summer of 2021, NBC cancelled Debris (an true sci-fi show with no soap opera for insecure people and spiritual successor for The X-Files, an beloved sci-fi classic from TV rival FOX) and worse, network did cancelled the underrated Manifest in which fans of the underrated serialized story-driven sci-fi thriller drama is angry at the moment. So #SaveManifest is trending worldwide from Twitter to Facebook. Even people at Netflix are unhappy with the news of Manifest's cancellation, so they listen to the fans and they did the right thing to renewed for a new season, in ironic twist, they squished down the last 3 seasons (seasons 4-6) to super-sized final season. While they're happy to watch Manifest on Netflix for super-sized final season and an upcoming final episode that finally wrapped up loose ends, they'll still mad at NBC for greenlit an new show from the creator of CBS crime drama from the 2000s The Mentalist... in still ironic twist... An new show that definitely a ripoff of Jurassic Park movies, Lost, Fringe, the Japanese anime Made in Abyss and even Land of the Lost. Even 4 worst talented young actors, one of them is disabled who try to act but they and their characters are horrible that makes people in America change the channel or fired up YouTube, Disney Plus and streaming service platforms. So was China or Japan are rather watch anime, Asian or K-Dramas and Game of Thrones spinoff House of Dragons and Mexico or Latin America is rather watch modern classic sitcom Malcolm in the Middle reruns and other shows or movies.

So. You want to watch Enterprise but you've heard it's largely terrible. Here's some good news: I actually really like Enterprise and I have strong opinions on the episodes and I'm giving them to you for free
Green- generally considered to be good
Orange- I personally like it but it's not stellar/I think it's underrated
Red- It's terrible but it makes me laugh
Season 1
(edit) Broken Bow- 1x01: Its the pilot you should probably watch it. Does a very good job establishing the characters and the general (horny) vibe
Strange New World- 1x03: the first of many "uh oh something is making a member/members of the crew act oddly" but I really like this for the first half of the episode because it's something so unique to Enterprise and you can really feel the enthusiasm for exploring this place where humans haven't gone before and you can see how things are different because there isn't things like a fully reliable transporter yet
The Andorian Incident- 1x06: trip and archer visit a Vulcan monastery and hijinks ensues but more importantly it's the first appearance of Shran!!! Famously brought the Andorians back into star trek and it also shows the Vulcans for the shady bitches they can sometimes (usually) be
Breaking the Ice- 1x07: the gang finds a big ole comet. this isn't a great episode but there are a lot of cute little character moments I really love including Travis and Malcolm making a snow Vulcan
Shadows of P'Jem- 1x14: Archer and T'Pol get kidnapped and proceed to refuse to have any romantic chemistry whatsoever. But who cares because it's a Shran episode!!
Shuttlepod One- 1x15: Trip and Malcolm get stranded in shuttlepod One with slowly dwindling resources. Not beloved by critics but the fans sure go wild.
Rogue Planet- 1x17: Archer romances a shapeshifting space slug
Acquisition- 1x18: this is just a fun episode. basically the Ferengi take over the enterprise and it's up to Trip to save the day in his underwear. A lot of people rag on it for causing continuity errors to which i say fuck you man star trek is full of continuity errors and this one isn't that bad.
Detained- 1x20: Archer and Travis get held in a detention center with several Suliban and the gang learns that racism is bad. Also, a quantum leap reunion
Vox Sola- 1x21: space jizz teaches trip and a random crewmen the highs and lows of water polo. Also, an underrated T'poshi episode
Two Days and Two Nights- Enterprise's first and only Risa episode and my god is it horny. Hoshi gets laid though good for her
Season 2
Carbon Creek- 2x02: T'Pol tells a story about her grandmother living on earth in the 1940s and Jolene Blalock gets to wear some real fucking clothes. Good fun, solid emotional beats, and the chronologically first Vulcan and human romance.
Minefield- 2x03: the ship goes into an alien minefield. Not the most creative name but a very tense episode AND the first real appearance of the Romulans
Deadstop- 2x04: an unofficial part two to minefield where a heavily damaged Enterprise comes across a high tech station that will repair it for a relatively low price... or is it? A delightful little romp and if you're into trip/malcolm this ones for you
A Night in Sickbay- 2x05: Archer is a fucking asshole in this episode but also his entire dream sequence and the end scene kills me dead
Marauders- 2x06: it's a magnificent seven reference in space with some great outfits. It's not life changing but it's harmless fun.
Dawn- 2x13: It's like Darmok but if Picard and that alien dude started beating the absolute shit out of each other and Picard was steadily stripping throughout the episode and I love it
Cease Fire- 2x15: Shran is back and bluer than ever baby! Another good look at the Vulcan/Andorian conflict and Jeffrey Combs gives it his all
Horizon- 2x20: the only episode of Enterprise to be Travis Mayweather centric and it's not mind blowingly good but we have to support our boy
Regeneration- 2x23: Enterprise's Borg episode that ties up a couple of plot holes from First Contact and has a fantastic score by Brian Tyler. Largely considered to have made the Borg scary again
First Flight- 2x24: Tells the story of the first flight of the warp two engine and the origin story of archer and trips friendship. Good old wholesome fun
Season 3
Impulse- 3x05: Enterprise does its own take on a zombie movie but with Vulcans. Need I say more.
Twilight- 3x08: Archer gets a space disease that makes it so he's incapable of making new memories and results in 50 first dates in hell. Gives a look at what will happen if the Enterprise fails to stop the Xindi weapon and T'Pol gets to wear the uniform
North Star- 3x09: Cowboy episode! Cowboy episode! Cowboy episode!
Similitude- 3x10: Trip gets severely injured and Phlox and Archer decide to grow a rapidly aging clone to save his life. This is a heavy one folks but I think the casting for the various young Trips is a particular stand out.
Carpenter Street- 3x11: Archer and T'Pol have time travel shenanigans including stealing a car and robbing an ATM. Lots of horror movie references for some reason.
Proving Ground- 3x13: Shran shows up out of nowhere in the expanse but does he have ulterior motives??? Yes. It's a Shran episode those are always good
Stratagem- 3x14: Archer, like many captains before him, finally gets his theater kid episode where he gets the act his little heart out in a stupid elaborate plan to trick Degra into telling him where the Xindi are building the weapon
Damage- 3x19: the ship is stranded without a warp drive and the only way to acquire one is to rob another ship. Holy shit does this episode get dark but I does present a good moral dilemma
E^2- 3x21: the Enterprise comes across an Enterprise that was sent into the past and that is staffed entirely by their decedents. It's a bit of filler episode but generally beloved by fans
The Council/Countdown/Zero Hour- 2x22-2x24: a pretty kick ass three part season finale that does uphold the Star Trek idea of trying to solve problems through diplomacy with some pretty good space fights. Very suspenseful and these were the episodes that made me understand why people thought Enterprise could actually be good
Season 4
(edit) Home- 4x03: the episode where everyone looks at the last year and realized that they might be traumatized. A good and necessary cool down ep after the xindi arc and sets the show up to be a bit more hopeful, a lot of good moments between characters
Borderland/Cold Station 12/The Augments- 4x04-4x06: Brent Spiner is back baby and they are going to milk him for all he's worth. I don't personally think these episodes are great but they're action packed and adds a ton to the lore
The Forge/Awakening/Kir'Shara- 4x07-4x09: this post is entirely my opinions so I'm going to say this is the best of all of the trilogies and probably the best Enterprise ever got. This trilogy has everything: shran, surak, t'pau, a shit ton of lore that explains how enterprise vulcans become tos/tng vulcans.
Observer Effect- 4x11: Hoshi and Trip are infected by a mysterious virus while non corporeal aliens posses various members of the crew to watch them. Great Hoshi moments in this one and a great tie in to the original series. My personal favorite episode
Babel One/United/The Aenar- 4x12-4x14: I don't want to spoil anything because there are a couple of great twists in this but it's another Shran episode baby!! It does lead to the first big step to the founding of the federation.
Affliction/Divergence- 4x15-4x16: Phlox gets kidnapped by Klingons and the gang goes on a man hunt to find him. Finally fleshed out Reeds backstory in an interesting way. Divergence has the best action scene in all of Enterprise with the crossing the tether scene imo. Continues the tradition of tying up loose ends from tos that no one really needed an answer to but it does it in a really interesting way.
In a Mirror, Darkly part 1 and 2- 4x18-4x19: season four is the season where they were desperately trying to tie into other, better star treks and it works for them. These are currently the only episodes to take place entirely in the mirror universe with mirror universe characters and if you hate faith of the heart than I have some good news for you. You can tell all the actors are having a great time chewing the scenery and it's some good old fashioned fun
Demons/Terra Prime- 4x20-4x21: nothing but respect for MY Enterprise series finale. In all seriousness this actually does a pretty good job of rapping up the show and giving every character a moment to shine. Fantastic performance by everyone but especially Jolene Blalock and Connor Trinneer.

Of course I'm going to ask about TTOI, but also Taskmaster and Succession. ;)
Oooh, great choice of fandoms, thanks! :D
And I'm just going to link the original post here, so that I don't need to copy the whole explanations thing. ^^ Answers are in the same order like the questions, obviously.
---
The Thick of It
- Ollie (& also Malcolm...of course I'm biased towards Ollie, but tbh Malc is just one of the best fictional chars ever ;D)
- who else but...Ollie (no questions here, right? :D)
- Nicola (I don't know if she's actually underrated, but anyway, I love her)
- the infamous piss woman from S2E1 :D
- John Duggan (tbh I didn't like the guy until I came to like Miles Jupp through his panel show appearances...and then I sort of started liking him on rewatches haha)
- Phil (sorry not sorry haha)
- Malcolm & Jamie (I think they'd have fun in hell :D)
---
Taskmaster
- Hugh & Mel (can't pick just one of them because they were such an iconic team haha)
- Victoria (her reaction to the bicycle task was definitely very cute haha) or Alan (the man's just always really cute I think)
- the entire S1 cast, really (people rarely talk about them even tho everyone was great and especially Tim Key is still one of my all time fave contestants)
- the poor undermined vole from S11 :D
- there are a few contestants who didn't seem to have enough fans, but I especially read people saying that Richard Herring wasn't a good contestant and I'm just like, what?
- Alex (can't really choose anyone else here and Greg would definitely agree lol)
- Greg & Alex (because of gay crimes aka the powerful homoeroticism :D)
---
Succession
- Greg
- Roman (well, he's quite short, so duh :D I also really came to love him and the when he said that thing about love in S3E9 it basically broke my heart - must protect the child)
- Connor
- Willa
- Rhea Jarell (dunno whether she's actually unpopular, but people never talk about her...I thought she was quite cool tho)
- Greg (that scene where Tom threw water bottles at him was weirdly fun and his reactions would be generally funny)
- Logan (not for gay crimes tho, but for being not the best dad ever tbh)

💔 Saving Symphony Hall by @helloamhere | E | 125k | abo | b!L - (touch depri, businessman louis, hurt/comfort, a fav)
“I think I have an idea,” Louis said. Slowly, and reluctantly, but with a growing sense of the inevitable. “God damnit, I think I have a really good idea.”
“Oh christ, that's the problem-solving face,” Babs said. “Last time we saw that face, he sold a company.”
“Wait, what?” Zayn asked.
“Right place, right time,” Louis said. “Also, fuck my life,”
“What?” Zayn repeated. Niall patted his hand.
“I usually just roll with whatever Louis is about to do,” he said. “It’s better for us all.”
“That’s the attitude,” said Louis, “I’ll tell you tomorrow. Tonight, I need to do some research. Zayn, give me your number. I’m gonna save our symphony.”
💔 The Dead of July by whimsicule | M | 117k | b!L - (avengers au, captain america harry, louis as bucky, ptsd, so fucking good)

💔 Here in the Afterglow by @harrybridgers | NR | 89k | b!L - (high school au, historical, 70s au, small town, slow burn, strangers to friends to lovers, soft soft soft)
1970’s AU. In a tiny town in Idaho, Louis’ life is changed forever by the arrival of a curious stranger.
💔 And down the long and silent street by whimsicule | M | 86k | b!L - (historical au, regency au, poverty, wealth difference, hurt/comfort, a masterpiece <3)
Wherein Louis and Harry are on the opposite ends of the social ladder, but their paths still cross on the filthy streets Louis calls his home. The odds are staked against them from the beginning, and even more when Louis' past finally catches up with him.
💔 Consequences by @allwaswell16 | E | 79k | b!L - (amnesia au, exes to lovers, hurt/comfort, secrets, amazing amazing)
Two years ago Harry let his powerful family come between him and the love of his life, something he deeply regrets. Louis has tried to move on from their devastating break up. Sometimes, he even thinks he has. It only takes one moment to freeze them back in time.
💔 We’ll Cast Some Light (You’ll Be Alright) by @harrybridgers | NR | 74k | b!L - (enemies to lovers, sort of exes to lovers, demons, demon hunters, INCREDIBLE)
There’s a standard procedure for this. Scan, track, kill. But with a solar eclipse and a Greater Demon with unfinished business looming, the path to keeping England safe from harm becomes complicated and shadowed by mystery and secrets. For Harry and his team, times have never been harder, especially when a few old friends turned foes show up. Harry is left with just over forty days to overcome the hurdle of tension between them and reconcile their past, and figure out just what Louis is hiding from him before it’s too late.
💔 Latibule by @quelquesetoiles | E | 54k | b!L - (spirited away au - ish, mythology, fantasy, god harry, human louis, sad louis, jealousy, amazing)
A Spirited Away AU of sorts where Louis just wants to heal and be left alone, only for all his plans to be destroyed by the hands of an infuriating British God.
💔 7 Up by @cherrystreet | E | 52k | b!L - (friends to lovers, growing up together, will make you cry like a baby, a classic)
Very loosely based on the British TV show "The Up Series" and somewhat inspired by the song “Something I Need” by Onerepublic, we follow the lives of Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson in an interview setting every seven years. They fall apart and come together, their lives and emotions recorded. Harry calls it a time capsule. Louis calls it a pain in the arse.
💔 Strangers in Love by @darlou | E | 42k | b!L - (amnesia au, car accidents, light d/s, growing up together, enemies to lovers, a fav)
Louis wakes up to find himself in a marriage with the last man he thought he'd ever end up with.
💔 Ever Fixed by @eeveelou | E | 42k | b!L - (strangers to lovers, divorce, depression, child death, the plot twist GOT ME SO GOOD - i read this yesterday with ris and h o l y s h i t)
Three years ago, Harry was happily married, successfully heading the largest technology company in the world, and raising his young daughter. After he loses nearly everything in the aftermath of his daughter’s lost battle with a rare brain tumor, it may take three strange and yet very familiar visitors – and a man from the therapy group Harry keeps refusing to go to – to get him back on track.
💔 before we knew by @falsegoodnight | E | 40k | b!L - (soulmate au, lawyer harry, editor louis, stubborn harry, pining louis, literally one of the best fics ever written)
Louis has been skeptical of soulmates for years so it seems like fate when he finally bumps into the owner of the obnoxiously large signature printed into his skin since age sixteen: Harry Styles, a human rights attorney who is firmly against soulmates.
💔 where the lights are beautiful by twoshipsdrifting | M | 31k | abo | b!L - (THE accidental bonding fic, mentions of mpreg, have reread many times and it still hurts so good)
Harry wasn’t wrong about that, not in a general sense. Lots of omegas did seek out rich alphas and betas, hoping or planning to go into heat at the right time. Plenty of omegas saw this as their duty, especially if their families weren’t well off. Worse, Louis couldn’t honestly say he’d never thought about it.
If that had been his life, his goal, Louis would feel pretty good about himself now.
As it is…Louis feels like shit.
💔 autumn leaves by @suspendrs | NR | 28k | b!L - (war au, soldier harry, waiter louis, french louis, friends to lovers, so so good)
Harry is an American soldier in France during World War II, and Louis is a French waiter that doesn't mean to fall in love with him.
💔 Cherry by littlebluetui | M | 25k | b!L - (exes to lovers, famous harry, non-famous louis, comfort sex, light d/s, really good & really underrated!)
Harry and Louis were soulmates, no one doubted that.
Sometimes one soulmates leaves the other to go on a world tour though.
Sometimes not having them at all is better than only a little.
💔 like a bastard on the burning sea by vashtaneradas | NR | 22k | implied b!L - (cheating/infidelity - i don’t read cheating fics as a principle but this one just... hurts so good, haven’t reread and i don’t think i ever will but i think about it often)
Harry breaks Louis, Louis breaks everything.
💔 all this delusion in our heads by buttfucklarry | E | 15k | b!L - (exes to lovers, sad louis, sad harry, mentions of mpreg, another underrated beaut <3)
After Harry and Louis break up, they cope with it in very different ways. What will happen when Harry keeps calling his ex over when things go wrong in his life, but Louis just can't take it anymore?
💔 a grocery list pinned in blue by dangerbears | NR | 20k | b!L - (exes to lovers, divorce, a masterpiece truly)
After eight years, Louis finally has everything he's wanted. Except for Harry.
💔 Cupid’s Chokehold by bluelemur | E | 35k | b!L - (soulmate au, cupid louis, human harry, virgin louis, feel good but also a bit angsty)
Louis is a Cupid who tries to match up Niall and Harry. It doesn't work out as planned.
💔 Love is like this; not a heartbeat, but a moan by @loveletterharry | E | 13k | abo | b!L - (enemies to lovers, ex-childhood best friends, pining harry, beach house, lovely)
In which Harry loves Louis, but Louis has been cold to him ever since he presented as an omega at age fifteen.
Eight years later, Louis approaches Harry with a request, and who is Harry to deny him?
Remember again to leave kudos and comment on all these lovely masterpieces! And feel free to let me know if I made any errors!

February 24th 1303 saw the Battle of Roslin.
I’ve said this before,  I’m biased because I grew up near Roslin, but this arguably must be the most underrated battles on Scottish soil-bar none.
The point about kings and battles is that while Mediaeval history is pretty short on details of the general populace, we know a lot about Scotland’s kings from, say, Malcolm III, known as Canmore, onwards, i.e. from the mid-11th century we can tell when they lived and died and summarise the major achievements, or lack of them, from their reigns.
The point about Roslin in 1303 is that it was the first victory for the Scots over any sort of major English force in the field since the disaster at Falkirk in 1298, and it showed Edward Longshanks that Scotland was not utterly defeated – that’s why he came north in a fiercely punitive months-long raid of savagery and sieges not long after Roslin.
Not only was it the first big battle since Falkirk, but it also featured three big names in Scottish history, the first two are instantly recognisable to most of you, Sir William Wallace and John “The Red” Comyn. The third is Sir Simon Fraser of Oliver and Neidpath, known as “The Patriot”
Things were very complicated back then, Fraser was possibly on the English side at Falkirk , the Red Comyn had no time for Wallace and had at times also fought for Longshanks but obviously Wallace was a big man, not only in stature, and knew that the likes of Fraser and Comyn were necessary if they were to win the war against the English.
We know what happened to Comyn at the hands of the Bruce and Wallace the English, but Simon a year after Roslin had accepted “peace” terms with the English and was said to be involved in the hunt for his former comrade Wallace, however in March 1306 Fraser once again broke faith with Edward and defected to Robert the Bruce. He escaped from the defeat at the Battle of Methven, but was captured during the summer of 1306 at a subsequent engagement at Kirkencliff near Stirling. We don’t know if he tried to change sides again on this occasion, but history records that he was hung, drawn, and quartered in London, his head joined William Wallace’s on London Bridge just over a year since Sir William’s was put there. Fraser has become known in history as “The Patriot”
Back to the Battle of Roslin. There is a legend that it was all to do with an English General falling in love with a Scottish woman, sentimental pish and I won’t go into it at all except to mention it was invented in the 19th century.
Some say we know so little about the battle because one of the Scottish leaders was Sir John Comyn, the then contender for the Scottish throne who would be murdered three years later by Robert the Bruce in Greyfriars Church in Dumfries – and Bruce’s people are supposed to have ordered that Comyn and “his” victory at Roslin were not to be extolled in the slightest.
The saying, history is written by the victors is certainly true in this instance.
There is no account of the battle by anyone who was there, but Mediaeval chronicles written somewhat later mention the 30,000 English versus 8000 victorious Scots – we know chroniclers exaggerated numbers all the time, it depended on whose side they were on, I have pointed this out in previous posts when using Chronclers as the source, but they are the closest we get to true accounts,
Here’s part of the Scottish historian John of Fordun exaggerated description of the fight:
…there never was so desperate a struggle, or one in which the stoutness of knightly prowess shone forth so brightly. The commander and leader in this struggle was John Comyn, the son… But John Comyn, then guardian of Scotland, and Simon Fraser with their followers, day and night, did their best to harass and to annoy, by their general prowess, the aforesaid kings officers and bailiffs… But the aforesaid John Comyn and Simon, with their abettors, hearing of their arrival, and wishing to steal a march rather than have one stolen upon them, came briskly through from Biggar to Rosslyn, in one night, with some chosen men, who chose rather death before unworthy subjection to the English nation; and all of a sudden they fearlessly fell upon the enemy.
Fordun’s late 14th-century chronicle has the battle taking place in July, not February, but every other chronicler agrees on February. So nice try John but nae prize for this one.
The numbers are exaggerated, of that I am sure, the logistics of having an army of 30,000 men enter Scotland in the middle of winter just do not add up, add to that the geography of Roslin, and I know the area well, do not lend itself to having such a large scale battle there. The Glen is deep with many outcrops, great for the type of fighting Wallace was famous for but not a large scale battle meant to be on the scale of Bannockburn.
So here I am rubbishing the Battle, yet I have championed it earlier, well it did happen, just not on the scale often written. If 30,000 was true, then it would be bigger than Bannockburn.
There is one theory, the Battle of Roslin might well have happened in three stages, three clashes with the Scottish tactics of a surprise early-morning attack, the English general, John Segrave was injured anther commander, Ralph of Manton was slain, history does record this, leaving his army in a bit of a disarray, the retreating army of the English would have been harried and picked off as they made their retreat.
So not a massive battle, but a very important one where the leader of the English army very nearly lost his life, it is recorded that soon afterwards he wrote to King Edward saying that he needs more support. This was a bigger psychological victory than perhaps a victory in numbers, and lets have no doubt that the river Esk which runs through Roslin Glen, would have run red with the blood of those slain that day.
It showed that the Scots were not done for,, and thus Edward never really destroyed Scottish resistance. The pro-Bruce faction may have played down the battle’s importance, though the evidence of that is not conclusive, but that’s no reason why the rest of us should do so.
So to sum it up, yes Roslin in 1303 was a Scottish victory against the forces of a cruel and tyrannical English king and thus should never be forgotten, but the numbers of the army, in my own opinion are way overstated.
Pictures are my own from different visits, the castle doesn’t get a mention in the history I have read about the battle, I can only assume that Wallace, as was his usual tactic, had slighted it, rendering it useless on any way. Also I don’t see the castle as of any strategic use to either army.

🔥 flashfam :3
They're low key one of the most fun superhero families
Wally should be the Flash!!!
Barry should've stayed dead. Like genuinely there was really nothing gained from his return but a lot was lost re: Wally and also you know. The N52
Avery Ho :) I want more of her immediately :)
I've really enjoyed all of Jess Chamber's recent appearances & I hope DC has them show up in more stuff
Someone suggested once that Jai West be connected to the strength force??? Yeah I like that idea
Irey is the Speed Force's favourite :)
Wally & Linda are better than Iris & Barry idc idc
Malcolm Thawne makes me go insane every time I think about him he's Barry's long lost evil twin that ALONE is amazing
Godspeed was really interesting & stuff but I do think the Reverse Flash twist they threw in kind of weakened his story if that makes sense
Generally think that writers should take at least five years in between Eobard Thawne stories he's a great villain and all but. I'm bored of him at this point
The Flash (CW show) was the worst thing to happen to the Flash in years it's. such a misunderstanding of the character + his world
The Flash (DCEU movie) looks a little overcrowded tbh & I don't like Ezra Miller's Barry Allen. VERY excited for Kiersey Clemons Iris though
HalOllie > HalBarry
DC introduced a lot of new speedster characters in Future State/Infinite Frontier but I just kinda wish we got to see more of them?? Like I know Alina is in Teen Titans Academy but lmao idk if there's anything that's gonna make me pick up that book
I THINK THAT THE FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN TARA MARKOV AND WALLY WEST IS CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED
Wally was the best Flash and his run was so the best Flash comics have ever been
Johnny Quick is hilarious to me he's just so funny & I wanna see him more often

Carver for the character ask meme
Send me a character and I will tell you my:
First impression: So that’s Carver huh? He seems pr-- o fuk and he’s dead bye Carver nice knowing u. <mourns in warrior Hawke>
Impression now: He’s my baby brother and I will fight for him. <meme>Carver’s a good guy, you guys are just mean.</meme>
Favorite moment: When he joins the wardens and everyone’s like “ok you know what? good for him. he seems like exactly the sort of guy who would attain self-actualization via fighting monsters for the rest of his life” and then he does
Idea for a story: I’ve mentioned before that au I have in which Carver becomes a middle school teacher but literally I do think about that all the time.
Unpopular opinion: There are some real double fucking standards in that Carver really generally isn’t ever that much meaner than red Hawke or purple Hawke is capable of being but Hawke is the ~cool and valid protagonist~ and Carver is the ~shitty little brother~ so everyone sides with Hawke, but you know what? Hawke’s earned a lot of the jabs Carver throws their way. Not all of them, but enough of them.
Favorite relationship: I feel like his relationship with Leandra is really underrated, because, since he was always jealous of Malcolm’s attention being given to his mage siblings, it makes sense to me that he would have the closest relationship to Leandra. Like, he doesn’t join the templars if left behind on the deep roads expedition to disrespect mage Hawke and Malcolm’s memory, lol? He does it because if Hawke dies in the deep roads with all the gold they’d managed to earn, he’d be left as the sole breadwinner for his depressed mother (and gambling addict uncle) and he’s gonna do anything to make sure she’s taken care of. Anyway I think there’s a very likely chance that he’s the only one of his siblings who ever learned useful life skills like how to cook or sew.
Favorite headcanon: Carver's consistently just like half an inch or so shorter than Hawke for the longest time and then he disappears and joins the wardens and the next time Hawke sees him he’s shot up over half a foot taller.

Favorite First Watches of January 2021
Giant (1956) (dir. George Stevens)
Tumblr media
Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, and James Dean are at the absolute peak of their acting abilities and the peak of their hotness in this epic Western. Three generations of a Texas family are explored, an expertly done melodrama that is also not shy about examining America's racism and how it was hand in hand with capitalism.
Hard Boiled (1992) (dir. John Woo)
Tumblr media
Incredible, heart-stopping action, explosions and open wounds galore, all packed inside a tightly done romantic drama. Much like Woo's magnum opus The Killer, it has that same rhythm as a ballet or a musical, which are his biggest inspirations when it comes to his filmmaking.
Jesus Camp (2006) (dir. Heidi Ewing & Rachel Grady)
Tumblr media
There's a scene in this documentary where the preachers and counselors bring out a cardboard cutout of George W Bush and tell the kids to say "Thank you, Mr. President" for being Christian, and that's only the fifth or sixth most fucked up thing in this movie. Some of the best editing I've seen in a documentary, tells the truth about the hypocrisy that is the American Evangelist.
Melancholia (2011) (dir. Lars von Trier)
Tumblr media
A film that feels more apocalyptic than it did than when it first came out. Climate change continues to grow worse, the youngest generation is most known for their depression and inability to be hopeful for the future, and now we're in a global pandemic. It only feels more and more likely that our time to be swallowed up by destruction of the Earth is right around the corner. Maybe that's too nihilistic of a mindset of a mindset to have, but it's natural for people of my generation, who have seen people like Claire and John, those who have all the money in the world, and choose to keep investing it in shitty wastelands like golf courses rather than giving it to those in need.
One Night in Miami... (2020) (dir. Regina King)
Tumblr media
A film based on a true story, a true encounter of four Black legends; Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, Jim Brown, and Sam Cooke. They discuss their lives, the religion of Islam, but most of all, they discuss their roles as Black public figures, whether they should be more peaceful or militant to white audiences. And knowing what happens to Malcolm X two years later, pandering to the white audiences to make them feel more comfortable feels like the irresponsible answer, which is a message that only feels more relevant in 2020s America. A tight script from Kemp Powers, even tighter direction from Regina King, and four brilliant lead performances make this one of the best of last year.
The Straight Story (1999) (dir. David Lynch)

One of Lynch's best, yet it feels severely underrated. Doesn't have his trademark terror or eroticism like Blue Velvet or Mulholland Drive, the cult classic status of the Twin Peaks show or films, or even the hipster's seal of approval like Inland Empire. And yet, this feels like a movie only he could direct. His love of the people of rural America, the way he directs landscapes, treating people who would be considered different with respect. The true story of Alvin Straight is one he directs with such grace and sincerity. Richard Farnsworth and Sissy Spacek give two of the best performances I've seen.
Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story (1988) (dir. Todd Haynes)

Banned in the United States for a while due to its portrayal of Richard Carpenter, Superstar is one of the all-time great music biopics, an experimental film telling the tragic story of legendary pop singer Karen Carpenter through Barbie dolls. It seems like a dark comedy due to its bizarre premise, but it's an achingly sad movie about the pressure that we put on female musicians and their bodies. The ending will forever be burned into my brain.
Touki Bouki (1973) (dir. Djibril Diop Mambiéty)

I need to explore more African cinema, there's a whole continent worth of movies I just haven't seen. This was an excellent film. Two kids in love planning to leave their home country to Paris after stealing a rich douchebag's money. Beautifully shot, full of youth and hope, and exquisitely edited. I love the neverending loop of the Paris song, it turns from hopeful to nightmarish fairly quickly.
When Harry Met Sally... (1989) (dir. Rob Reiner)

There's not much I can say about this movie that's been said thousands of times. It's a classic romantic comedy, a perfect friendship between a man and a woman, made even more adorable by the fact that it's based off of Rob Reiner and Billy Crystal's friendship. New York is a third character in the film, topped off with its signature autumn foliage. And Meg Ryan & Billy Crystal's chemistry is immaculate.
