time was moving painfully slow today. normally you’d find dr. hong's class interesting but today you just couldn't seem to focus for some reason.

you had laid low for the rest of the class, periodically answering some questions for recitation. he had avoided lingering too much on your side of the room probably to remove suspicion on his side from his flustered outburst.
"that's all for today, class. have a good weekend."
slightly embarrassed from what happened earlier in class you try to leave swiftly, passing by the professor's desk avoiding eye contact.
"miss, may i speak to you for a second?" he called out behind me as you curse under your breath for not getting out faster.
you turned around hesitantly and saw him sitting at his desk, looking at papers; almost as if he hadn't called you over. you walk back to his desk as the last few students leave the classroom, leaving us alone.
you start to get nervous as your brain imagines all the things he could say to me.
could he be mad about what you had said in class? is he gonna call you out for your flirting? is he gonna kick me out of his class? fuck—that can’t happen. this was a prerequisite for another class you have next semester.
"the last paper i assigned was due yesterday, you haven't turned it in" he looks up at you as he props his arms up in front of him and interlocks his fingers, resting his chin on his hands.
you had let go of a breath you hadn't realized you were holding—a late paper you could handle but him calling me out or worse dropping you from his class? another story.
"i'm sorry professor, i haven't finished it yet" you make slight puppy dog eyes in the hopes he'll be the tinest bit forgiving. normally he hates it when students turn in their work late and you did not want be one of them that he mentally puts a label on for being tardy.
"can you have it done by tomorrow? i'll be in my office at around 9pm, you can drop it off then. normally i wouldn't open office hours on weekends but i can make the exception; just this once."
"i can do that. i'll have it done by then sir."
"good. you're a bright student, i wouldn't wanna see your grades suffer due to tardiness." he leaned back on his chain and places his hands on his lap.
your eyes had drifted towards his lap—it almost looked like an invitation but you knew better than that.
"thank you dr. hong i greatly appreciate it." you say with all sincerity as you watch a small smirk form on his lips.
does he like it when i call him that?
"i'll see you tomorrow at 9pm sharp, miss."

I was at first in love with totk, and I still think mechanical wise, its quite impressive
And when I collected all the tears and saw the "story" I genuinely got upset in a good way (at first), because man! Did they really got the balls to go that far? Is there nothing I can do for her? Now I MUST do all the temples, see how it plays out and --oh, I've got this cutscene already. Why are all the people so dumb about Zelda, I KNOW where she is, Link say something-- Link??
After finishing all the temples and almost falling asleep, I stopped playing the game, looked up the last boss and remaining cutscenes and went "Thats it?"
Watching other people (including you) being critically about so many things, both character and mechanical wise, I've almost startled myself with a realization what the gnawing feeling I constantly had, actually was.
Totk feels like a fanfic.
And don't get me wrong, I love fanfiction, I think its great and important, I adore fanfic writers, I love finding gems, I love reading self indulgent stories, see new spins and interpretation of characters. I love the casual, the passion, the creativity!
But totk gives me the same feeling everytime I am reminded that Fifty Shades is a Twillight fanfic.
The world is there. The faces I know and grew to love are there. But everything is ever so slightly different, uncannily so. Just how some characters talk, how they act, how they were placed in the story. The Zonai appearing out of nowhere, but no, they always had been there you see, they were these super magical advanced people but they all died, the king is so tragic. And you see, the king is super cool and powerful and-- oh I dont get to interact with him outside of the tutorial. Did they try to do another King Rhoam-- but wait, that only worked because we didn't knew he was a ghost-- totk wait stop why do you take him out of the story, why couldn't he be a companion, he IS ABLE TO TALK THROUGH THE ARM LET THE OLD GOAT COMMENT ON STUFF?? If you bring up all this ancient stuff and you still got a ghost lingering, let him talk?? (I never ended up getting Mineru but I smell wasted potential as well)
Im not even mad, I am disappointed. It feels like the devs saw what all the lore hunters got attached to and talked about and then just... took the "cool". All the Zonai stuff could've easily been Sheikah tech, but got just reskinned to look more exciting instead of being its own thing.
Like... at this point I prefer what fans are doing over what Totk gave us. The characterization of Rauru (and everything Zonai), projects like you do of what totk couldve been, the little nuggets of actual highlights and details of love fans find in the game. I found much more enjoyment in these concepts than I got from a 70bucks game. And thats depressing.
I love fanfiction. I dont love it when my corporate 70 dollar, six year development, console exclusive game feels like a story that passionate fan couldve written miles better in a week (and I've already seen much cooler and interesting rewrites and ideas).
Zelda has been a huge part of my childhood and its depressing seeing it treated like that. It always was about the story, the epic, its The Legend of Zelda for crying out loud. To be courageous to enter a dungeon, to be wise and solve all the riddles. To become powerful over the journey you embarked on. Zelda to me is the campfire story you tell to others and go into the woods or the beach and imagine what monsters you would slay. Zelda is not the sandcastle you build in the sandbox and then add dinosaurs and star wars ships because you didn't had any other toys, and just stumble into and over some story to entertain yourself until lunch is ready.
I'd have an oracle of seasons over another totk any day at this point. They should've just make the mechanics of totk its own thing, but I guess they were scared it wouldn't sell if it doesn't have a Mario or Zelda skin straped over it.
Anyways, sorry for the mini rant - love your art, love your thoughts and insights, and I am looking forward to see more of it - Zelda related or not (your original characters look amazing, I adore your style sm)

idk how many of my rants you have read but yeah ... yeah ... and the further you think about it the further it all falls apart, the wasted potential of it all and the goddamn audacity of them to do those interviews in which they make it EVEN WORSE is just
i know the expectation for a direct sequel to botw was huge and understandbly so but i really REALLY think it would not have been that hard to make it a good follow up even taking into account that totk was originally a DLC, pretty much all of botws aspects could have been developed further, i dont know what could have happened to make totk have turned out like this .. literally it feels like something had to have gone wrong, its like someone who doesnt know zelda nor botw at all was given a few prompts and then just made some generic fantasy story while the rest worked on ultrahand for 5 years
the technical impressive things ARE technical impressive, but i dont think it was necessary nor served the game well in any way (and i LOVE building games- however totk is neither a building game nor a story game nor a zelda game nor an exploration game nor a sequel imo) but zelda, this zelda, is not made for that and i cant help but think it was mainly to encourage people to make some ridiculous mechs so it can go viral on tiktok (not trying to discredit them, it IS cool what they are doing but i .... have my doubts if zelda is the right place for that)
ill stop there bc i have ranted so much about everything i dont wanna repeat it here again; it just doesnt feel like a real game (derogatory), it feels extra bad bc i was not really into zelda when botw came out and while i did get it as soon as i could (months after release since i just started a minijob and didnt have the money) i only over time grew to love zelda this much again, devouring any theories and anything about it bc i loved it so much- i was never into it like this when a new title was announced and dont own any special editions so i bought the totk collectors bc i was just so damn excited for it after the 2019 trailer dropped (god i want that time back ... it looked so much more like it was going to be an actual sequel) even if i was already worried it wouldnt be good at that point given how much i started to sense stuff i dont like about the newer trailers
i recently sold it at our local gameshop bc it was like a thorn in my side given how expensive it was and how dissapointed i was in the game, i genuinely think that, technical impressiveness aside, totk is the onyl zelda i truly cannot stand (for alot of reasons) and im genuinely worried for the future of the franchise
i bought an Oki (Okami) figurine for what i got back and i feel much happier with that :3
(also on a note, i did finish the game two weeks after release but stopped playing it right then and hadnt touched it since, i also streamed all of what i played and its still up if you want to see my slow descend into madness fjkdhkdhjk though its been a long while since then and i by far did not talk about everything back then, just what my most immediate frustrations were while still playing)
(also the gameplay isnt as good as people make it out to be, so much is so frustrating and punishing to use i am kinda baffled it got through like that and most people call that its best aspect ..... though i guess if the rest is so much worse even mid gameplay can seem good ooooooooh how dare i)

Talking about Saiki and SA here a bit, btw, just a warning~
Thinking about how you said Saiki was a victim of SA and you’re literally so right. I feel like people sometimes just blow right past the fact that Kusuke is like that with his brother, but I think it can add a lot to interpretations of his character. But even if it only goes as far as what is shown in canon — which I almost doubt — it still remains the fact that Kusuke is doing all of that knowing fully well that his brother can hear him. It’s literally sexual harassment.
People point it out more often with Teruhashi and her brother (back to the reasons you said, people think it’s more serious if it happens to women). But the things he does, that’s all sexual harassment. And yet when Kusuke does similar things, it’s often brushed aside. Just,,, a bit crazy to me.
(And that’s not even mentioning when people completely disregard this part of Teruhashi’s story and act like she’s one-dimensional,,, but that’s another story)

I always viewed kokomi and makoto + kusuo and kusuke as like.. paralleling each other ? not sure if thats the right word, but IMMEDIATELY when i saw both of these dynamics i made the connection.. i guess since it was so clear to me, i assumed that it was so obvious and on purpose that everyone else knew too, but so many people just.. ignore it..
i think most people that read/watch saiki k have recognized the fact that most main characters are meant to parallel or relate to saiki in at least some way, (if anyone who doesnt know what im talking about is reading this, im sure at least someone on here has done a better breakdown on that, i just.. dont know where to find that..) but this particular connection is one i dont see often and i genuinely believe that its almost entirely because of the whole "sexual assault/harassment isnt as serious when it happens to men as when it happens to women" thing.. most of the fandom acknowledge that what makoto does is awful and kokomi is a victim, so why is it different when its kusuke and kusuo ??
its EXACTLY the same.. what we see on screen with the saikis is WORSE, actually.. and what WE see from these two relationships isnt the full extent of what the two victims experience off screen, and i strongly believe that its heavily implied that both kokomi and kusuo have been through much worse with their brothers than whats shown..
we have no idea what kusuke couldve done BEFORE moving away and creating the telepathy canceler (and dont say that he couldnt have done anything cuz they were kids, cocsa [child on child sa] is still a thing and still valid, ESPECIALLY since they were both kid geniuses and kusuke definitely KNEW better.. but yea, kusuo implies that hes been like that for a long time, way before we ever saw them, sooo..) and its highly likely that whatever happened that we didnt see, before or after the move, was WORSE than what he does ON screen (i honestly dont want to think about what a guy with an incestual obsession with his brother does with cameras everywhere in his brothers home..) and what we see him do is already insane..
literally using his brother to get off, manipulating him and forcing him to play the games that give him sexual pleasure.. actually, speaking of, ive seen some people say that what kusuke does isnt really incest because the only reason he uses kusuo is because hes a masochist and kusuo is the only person that can overpower him.. this is a total misfire LOL, his upbringing alongside kusuo and his relationship with him is the REASON that hes a masochist, the ENTIRE REASON why thats what he gets off to.. its not just CONVENIENT that kusuo is there to get him off, he SPECIFICALLY seeks kusuo out and forces him to do things that give him sexual pleasure.. he believes that kusuo is the only person in the world that can ever give him sexual pleasure, what about that doesnt sound incestuous?
and one of the worst parts of it is, kusuo BARELY acknowledges how weird it is.. in fact, he's COMPLACENT in a lot of the games, obedient even, being bribed into them the same way he does with simple things like bringing kuniharu to work.. this is the biggest reason why i believe the off-screen stuff is probably worse, because kusuo is obviously conditioned to think that letting your brother get off to you is just.. fine.. we hardly see him try to get away from this situation beyond simply calling him gross.. theres one moment during the cat tank situation where kusuke tries to get him to grab the limiter off of his crotch specifically so that he can see him in that position and kusuo looks terrified and cant do it, BUT its unclear whether the expression of fear was entirely his concentration because he didnt wanna break the limiter or because he didnt want to let his brother get off to that, and i think its mostly the former ? idk, i dont remember this part that well but im preeeetty sure..
he does acknowledge that MAKOTOS behavior is bad when he sees it, but he never thinks its a big enough deal that he needs to help her or anything, (except for maybe the okinawa situation) which i know is probably just for the sake of not letting the gag manga get too serious, BUT it can also be explained pretty easily by this whole thing.. the way kokomi is treated is literally the same way kusuo lives his life, even down to their incestuous brother being possessive to the point of berating their potential love interests.. (which in this case happened to be each other, kusuo and kokomi..)
so yeah, kusuo just. doesnt really know how bad it actually is ? or maybe he does, but doesnt acknowledge it because he doesnt WANT to.. him barely acknowledging it and being complacent is part of why some people dont really get that its sa and incest, but his complacency obviously plays a big part in how its effected him too, like thats purposeful.. like i said, hes been CONDITIONED not to acknowledge it..
to me, it looks like a classic situation in which kusuo doesn't acknowledge his trauma because he knows that if he did, it would change his outlook on his life, his family, and his childhood FOREVER. he would never be willing to tell anyone or ask for help on his own accord, and accepting that there was anything wrong in the first place means, to him, dealing with that issue by himself for the rest of his life.
why would he ever admit that anything was wrong if nothing would change either way? the only thing that WOULD change is HIM, and why would he want that? isnt it better to be blissfully unaware than to knowingly suffer in silence?
plus, he genuinely does love his brother and knows in the back of his mind that kusukes feelings toward him comes from their unhealthy upbringing and relationship and its more complex than just "hes an evil guy blah blah.." because he isnt really evil and kusuo KNOWS that.. actually, he might be the only person in the world who COULD understand..
so yeahhhh.. kokomi and kusuo are both CANONICALLY victims of sexual harassment.. (and incestual abuse at that..) and, by my interpretation, implied victims of sa as well !! (im not really sure where the line can be when it comes to this sometimes, like when your brother sniffs your bedsheets and rubs himself on them or gets off to you right in front of your face or tries to get you to grab something positioned over his crotch so he can see you in.. THAT position.. but i already said that its pretty likely that both brothers have gone farther than that off-screen..)
anywayyyy.. this is so important to me and i wish people would talk and write about it more instead of pretending it never happened and mischaracterizing every one of these characters, especially for the sake of a ship like i was talking about in my other post.. it sucks that people so often just cast kusuos canon issues aside..

HI RAXZ IT TOOK LONGER THAN EXPECTED AS IT'S BEEN A WEEK BUT!!! DURING ALL THAT I DIDN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT YOUR FIC/S It's just one of those pieces of fanwork that leaves so much of an impression on someone, that it just ends up sticking and changing what you initially thought of a character, because of how well done the things most would just move aside or chalk up for simple reasons. you seem to be the only person who really does get Chara like no other, and I hope it's not strange to say you write them almost as if you know them or you are them that I'm sorta afraid nothing else will live up to how you written them and asriel in ur fan fic LOL but no matter... i will prevail. I love how you were able to portray charas self hate and self harm, i love how you didn't hold back on the ugly side of it and how far and disturbing it can be especially for someone as young as chara. There's just something so realistic about it that don't see alot anywhere else. 
I also like how you made asriel be childish, childish in a way a kid can be bratty or selfish(?) in the first half, that might not be a good descriptor but my puter is lagging from the many many words I've written for this ask so I'm making do </3 the point is you really know how to write these kids. Also enjoy that the tone of each fic is starkly different from one another, asriels pov feels grounded in comparison to charas inner thoughts

FIORE!!! i have been waiting for this day.. thank you so much. ive had several people say that i really get chara including like, literal veteran chara fans. its very nice to hear, theyre pretty important to me as a character. which is rather funny because the only analysis ive ever actually written on them that wasnt fanfiction was an essay on how i think theyre kind of actually a little poorly written LOL. to understand someone you have to know their weakpoints i guess... even if on a meta level.
for my asriel interpretation i try to incorporate a lot of "flowey-isms" as i say. the way i see asriel is that he was always a bit of a bratty, selfish kid that struggled with low empathy. he chooses to do what he thinks is right because he knows its right and not because it provides him with positive feelings himself... i think thats even more admirable. as opposed to this is think chara is high empathy which is part of the reason they did what they did. asriel is just way more of a people person than chara and so comes off as more understanding, charas just naturally a bit off-putting no matter how hard they try not to be.
chara and asriel are quite different people so i tried to make that clear in how i write their perspectives. chara is kind of stuck in their own head and lives in a world with walls of misery and think prose. theyre very direct but also very metaphorical. its a weird combination but it gets easier to write when taking in account their canon dialogues (one day youll get a fic from me with a more light hearted tone where chara will get to make their dog puns and nerd jokes. maybe). this is also the reason i write them with a strange mix of first and second person. it just feels natural for our narrator.
asriel on the other hand is much much more of an emotional person and is much less formal in how he thinks. he has a lot more filler words and "i-think"s and "i-feel"s and such.
i figure ill write a bit on what inspired each fic.
for my chara fic, i actually started writing it while bored in class. it was inspired a narration line in one of the fights in undertale, the one i used for the summary. the main thing i wanted to play with was metaphors and metaphors upon metaphors. mainly related to charas self hatred though the lense of soil and dirt and flowers and gardens because of course.
for my asriel fic, the main thing i wanted to play with was, quite obviously, writing from asriels perspective. i had already written 2 fics from charas perpective (the 1st one isnt as good as the other two and was mostly written as a characterization and perspective test) so i figured it was time to give him a turn, especially since it we only realy got a peak and asriels personality through charas eyes and i wanted to show it off more. the other thing that the fic ended up centering on is something my friend said to me about how they felt my chara characterization was screaming to be understood under all the hurt. basically the thesis of this fic is "asriel did not fully get chara but he was also the closest anyone ever got by a long shot which counts for something".

ok ykw im making this a separate post cuz putting it in the reblogs aint gonna do much, but this is a continuation of the post i made earlier abt laurance lolll
in my belief, laurance did NOT leave out of sheer pettiness and jealousy !! yes it couldve very well been a part of it [because honestly who wouldn't be pissed ?] but it was not the entire reason. laurance left in an attempt to protect aph, he left for not only his own salvation, but for her safety. previous to leaving, laurance had been struggling with his shadow knight form for a WHILE, it was a constant battle that he was losing. a lot of his anger likely came from that issue, because late-mcd s2 laurance acted WILDLY different from how he acted beforehand. laurance left because he knew that he could not control himself, because his first duty as a guard is to protect his lord, even if it means laying down his life and sacrificing himself. laurance gladly would have laid down his life and even gone through his experience in the nether AGAIN if it meant protecting aph [seen several times throughout the series, including in scaleswind when he's grateful to aaron for knocking him out before he could hurt aph while corrupted and even in void paradox when him and VP aph are trying to find modzilla in the other dimension]. even though it very much so would have hurt him to leave aph, he would have done what he could to keep her safe. like i said before, he still cares about her in mcd s3. it's not like he was so pissed that he left and decided to abandon his duties. in reality, he was FOLLOWING said duties by protecting her from himself. when laurance left the settlement after finding out aph was pregnant, he knew it was his time to go before he ended up hurting someone [which he literally made a promise to aph about]. this is probably a stretch, but that part where he tears up the grass in front of aph's house after hearing her announcement felt more like a "i need to release emotion and leave before i turn and do something i regret" than an expression of just anger. whether it was as a result of his proximity to the nether portal or not, laurance is in his form by the time he leaves for good. this could be interpreted, as i said, as a result of his proximity to the portal, OR as a result of his spiraling emotions. like at the wedding, laurance's form has been seen to be brought on by emotional overload [he also directly stated this when explaining corruption to aph], so it is not out of the question that the announcement could have caused him to spiral. anyways, laurance is constantly afraid of hurting aphmau, it is one of his biggest [if not his greatest] fear. he would rather never see her again than risk her death at his hands [WHICH HE LITERALLY HAD A BREAKDOWN OVER IN VP BECAUSE HE FELT LIKE HE FAILED HER AFTER SHE WAS HURT BY HIS OTHER ALT SELF] or of someone else [shad lol]. ALSO he explicitly states that he doesn't want her to end up in a realm where the shadow lord could hurt her and where he could not reach her. by leaving for the nether, he is, in a way, making an attempt to hold shad at bay. he still likely holds that fear of him reaching her WHICH HE ACTS ON IN S3 !! laurance is living what garroth did AGAIN [first was him being trapped and turned into a shadow knight, second was him being stuck in the other dimension in VP (even though we never got any sort of closure on that)], each was in another dimension fighting what could be considered their greatest enemies in an attempt to protect their lord, that being garroth fighting zane, and laurance fighting not only the shadow lord, and his VP alt self, but HIMSELF. laurance zvahl would NEVER risk his lady's life if he knew he could prevent it. he admitted to aph that he felt inferior to garroth in terms of being a guard ["but after garroth, what good am i ?"], even though he just wants to keep those he loves safe. vylad said that giving in to being a shadow knight is to stop caring, to let go, to no longer feel pain and be no longer binded by emotional connections. it would feel good. ok like again i feel like people come to these conclusions about the show and use them as proof but forget that it might not actually be substantiated. like maybe chauncey did bully stede for being too fruity as a kid! but we dont actually ever see that on screen. best we got is him calling him baby bonnet. idk like im sure chauncey bullied stede too but the extent of that and reasons behind it arent actual facts laid out by canon!
i mean, stede says that he forgot that him and nigel were twins. its possible he remembers nigel more than he remembers chauncey if nigel was the one leading his bullying. we defs hear nigel mocking him in a way that feels like pointed attacks on his masculinity, that his “boat” is so tiny, he was always crying and picking flowers, that hes a coward, etc. but nigel isnt chauncey so even though we can theorize that chauncey bullied him in a similar manner, we cant actually say that as canon.
what we do know about chauncey is that hes a higher ranking official than nigel (admiral vs captain) hes respected enough to hold office with the king! the way he talks is also very different from nigel where they dont have the same mannerisms at all. i feel like we could reasonably theorize that chauncey is the more responsible twin and nigels a bit more… frat boy. chauncey calls stede baby bonnet, so hes obviously not fond of him and probably wouldve partook in his bullying as well.

but when it comes to how chauncey talks about stede, i feel like it has a different vibe than nigel? i mean, his big speech at the end at stede is so different than how nigel derides him.
“stede bonnet is not a human. youre a monster. a plague. you defile beautiful things. my dear brother. your own family. youve even managed to bring historys greatest pirate to ruin. and here you are, unscathed, gods perfect little rich boy.”
its fascinating to me how “you defile beautiful things” is often interpreted as stede not conforming to masculinity properly, but thats such a?? not masc thing to say? where his list of beautiful things is his brother, stedes family, and fucking blackbeard. its also a statement said with so much hatred, where he goes back to stede as a child even, describing him as gods perfect little rich boy.
i guess for me this doesnt read as something attacking stede for being gender nonconforming. it feels like something much deeper than that, speaking on jealousy and resentment at the privilege he may view stede as having. it feels like his hatred for stede has a lot more depth in comparison to nigel, whos obviously coming from a position of liking to fuck with stede, who even goes as far as inviting himself over for tea so he can continue his bullying.
but its like! yeah! chauncey couldve bullied stede for being feminine! but this isnt something that has been shown in the series.

Uhm, okay so, I just watched the episode where Gideon dies (10x13, Nelson's Sparrow), and I just need help understanding something.
In the end of the episode, Rossi puts down his gun and basically tells the unsub to come at him, and then later he shot and killed the unsub. The way I understood it was that Rossi wanted the unsub to come at him so he'd have an excuse to shoot and kill the unsub (most likely as revenge for Gideon + all those women since the unsub was so fine with going to jail), and I'd very much not like that to be the case, so did you or anyone else interpret it that way?
unfortunately im p sure thats exactly how that scene played out… i guess you could say its better than straight up shooting him in cold blood, but is it really all that different?? i cant remember when but at some point someone calls hotch out for letting that slide when he condemned elle for essentially doing the same thing.
idk i was really disappointed with that whole episode. conceptually it felt cheap and it really just spit in the face of gideon’s entire character arc. gideon’s departure was bittersweet.. it was inevitably a bit rushed just due to the way the actor was leaving, and we didnt ever get proper closure with him and any of the others, but i think that suited him in a way?
(in fact i think it worked in everyone else’s favor, character wise. they all had to scramble in the wake of his sudden absence, putting pressure on characters who were already at their breaking point. the team is on the brink of collapse what with strauss’s attacks, reid’s struggle with sobriety, emily’s doubts, hotch’s priorities… hotch has been unit chief since the show started but there was no question that ultimately they all looked to gideon for guidance. with gideon gone the others had to step up and have faith in their own abilities—and in each other. gideon was unparalleled as a profiler, but his true passion and ultimately the legacy he left behind was as an educator. the true test of his impact was whether the team could continue without him)
but i digress! he was troubled when he left: plagued by guilt of all the people who got hurt because of him. he couldnt handle the weight of the mistakes he had made, so when he drops everything and leaves it seemed like he was running away. particularly in the rather distasteful way they teased his last goodbye as a potential suicide letter.. while that wouldve been fitting in its own way, the reveal that he was using this time to rediscover himself and find his way out of the twisted life he had entangled himself in was uplifting and hopeful: he could live a life outside the bau and find the happiness and beauty in the world he had struggled to say as of late, but had always valued. only penelope could rival his fierce desire to choose to believe in the good of the world, even as he trudged through the death and destruction humanity had to offer. but he was losing his grip on that faith and needed to leave before he lost a part of himself he’d never get back
which is why it was so disheartening to see that he had fallen right back into it. he wasnt able to leave and, ultimately, it was what got him killed in the end. it wouldve been one thing if they emphasized the hopelessness of it all and how they were all destined to die in the same way because of the life they had chosen (and could never un-choose), but instead they tried to laugh it off and talk about the good ol days and pretend that he was doing good right up until the end. instead of acknowledging the tragedy of the trap he’d created for himself that he couldnt escape from, they talked about his quirks and told stories from his early bau days. if they had at least acknowledged it and presented it as an ominous omen reflecting the future that awaited them all, then ruining the end of his story wouldve felt worth it. but they disrespected his character for cheap entertainment instead of any deeper meaning they couldve drawn from it.
sorry lahdkzh this is not what you were asking about, but i just wanted to talk about why i felt they failed in this episode on all counts. not just with rossi and hotch’s actions, but with the base idea in the first place.

couple of disconnected thoughts but okay so like if daemons settle as a part of puberty then it is more of a process than a Moment probably even if it might look like a Moment from the outside it’s not really it’s part of like a continuum of growing, and different for everyone
also because it’s a representation of You most of the time it probably feels Right what it ends up settling as. children talk about i want this or that cool animal but i expect most people feel at least in part that when their daemon settles that it settles as the right thing. even if it’s something that doesnt look good maybe like a snake or those magisterium guards with the dogs. you’d think like seeing those daemons settle you might be like ‘damn thats me? i hate that’ but most people probably wouldnt be like that because they are like that. if that makes sense
but by no means everyone. and it’s by no means a yes/no kinda thing. it’s not you love your daemon or you hate it, relationships to self arent that simple. but i do think there are people who watch it settle and just do not feel right with that. people who are going through a trauma and feel like maybe the way theyve been for years isnt who “they really are”. they might feel like no you cant settle like this im not like this ive been warped by this outside thing. you cant settle like this, im only response to circumstances rn. you cant settle like this this is not my real self
there are also undoubtedly lots of people who try to postpone the settling. who try to stretch it. who maybe see their daemon settle and sorta know this is sorta for real like sorta feel this is sorta permanent and they pressure them just do whatever they have to until that daemon shifts again. not sustainable obviously but it’s easy to imagine
ruth wilson also says in interviews that the way she plays mrs coulter or like the headcanons she has for her theres some kinda trauma in her past. sure thats just headcanon but i share it so im just kinda gonna go with that for now
it’s not hard to imagine that mrs coulters daemon settled as something she maybe didnt entirely feel like was fair. or her. like she’d been operating just like in response to circumstances for a long time, like just playing defence basically, and now her daemon might have settled as this thing that maybe it wouldnt have if this Something hadnt happened to her (“you think you couldve been something else, someone else”)
that would make you resentful of it from the beginning. and also it might feel like a sort of,,, destiny. embodiment of how youve been irrevocably changed by something out of your control and now you have to live with it. this reminder of how you mightve turned out different
and at the same time try not to let it determine who you are. like mrs coulter definitely didnt do that but if you dont want to end up like her then what you have to do is not give in to like the worst possible reading you might be inclined to give to the form your daemon has taken. no animal is inherently anything but humans do give those kinda meanings to them. you might be tempted to look at your daemon that formed at a time in a way you didnt want it to and interpret its form in the least generous way. and apply it to yourself. “well now that im already bad and ruined aNYWAY” kinda thing. why not give in to your worst impulses. youve been made wrong youve got visible evidence. even if the daemon hasnt changed in response to whatever youve experienced. you’d never know for sure. you could still make that assumption

maroon sampling a song from the rep era, an era where the word "fake" was prevalent and frequently used, and being a kaylor song and the ending of the great war being fake and a kaylor song is so ow (obviously taylor couldve just sampled a rep era song bc a lot of rep is about karlie and that was probably one reason but i feel like a lot of her production decisions are deeper than having only one reason)
Yeah, it is so ow you're right anon.
Like, let's add to that that she starts the song with her before switching to you and it's so painful. Like, I do think she is saying in part that the good parts of her relationship with Karlie weren't real love, it was fake love masquerading as real love because when you're in the lavender haze, everything looks good and amazing to you.
And so you can't really see the signs that this relationship is going to burn up, I think the choice of using maroon as the color is so interesting. I've spoken before about my many different interpretations of maroon, and like one of them is a fun one where I think she did it because maroon is more complex than the entirety of red. I can really do a lot of fun lit stuff with red and maroon because just the difference in how surface level red is versus how deep maroon is- I think it was motivated by the difference in the genders partially. Like, her heartbreak with karlie was deeper than with Jake for sure and it shines through the differences in the songs and like... in red- the lyrics they're all cliches. I think she did that on purpose.
I know ur talking about rep and I'm over here on red sorry anon but this is what ur getting right now lol but yeah red is on purpose all cliches because I think she is saying that relationship was a cliche to her- after all, she had already been groomed and abused once. I think it's very self-blaming and it was written in a self-blaming manner and so for me, maroon is also self-blaming but like in a real way?
The fact that she is taking accountability for hurting her lover in maroon, it contrasts to how she took on the assumed accountability that society was forcing on her through attacking her as a slut and a bitch and a villain but not turning their fingers towards the men in the situation. I also think it's a tell on the men being cliche and difficult to write meaningful lyrics about in a real way because they put up a facade with her precisely because it was predatory but this relationship with Karlie. This one hurt more and harder because they saw each other and still fucked it up. Like, they were good until they weren't type of deal and like sometimes being good individually doesn't mean ur good together and that's really what taylor had to learn with karlie and that's what shines to me when you take all the songs about kaylor and put them together.
Like, even maroon itself, it's specific to details and inside jokes and all the references mean something to the two women in that relationship that we will never understand because we weren't there with them and maroon feels like you're looking inside of kaylor with taylor in her mind whereas red is more of a outward perspective looking in- more like she wrote red about "oh no, I've done it again what will people say" type of way?
Like maroon is so special to me because it's the complete opposite of red in every way and that to me is indicative of it being queer alone but then you get the literal gay lyrics and I think it's fitting that she used maroon as the color. It's literally a shade of purple and you know, purple is also the color of fresh bruises. I think that's interesting, because in the great war it's definitely a retrospective years down the line changing of the narrative but maroon, you're right in the relationship and I think you can tell because the production alone is terrifying. Idk when I listen to that heavy thud, it reminds me of when I hear my blood rushing to my ears. It's so heavy handed in production, I can't help but feel like it's intentionally done to showcase how when ur in love, even the red flags can seem romantic or like a good sign.
And it's like, maroon is so heartbreaking to me because she is painting herself as the bad guy in the song. She's watching her lover sob with head in hands as they fall apart, that's so sad to me because it's an admission of guilt. Of knowing that the reason that your relationship cannot work is deeper than any of the fights you've been having. It's a deep incompatibility between the two of you that was always inherent but like fools in love, you rushed in and ignored the warning signs.

To show that steven is actively forgetting chain's existence here as time ticks on. His "Huh? What am i doing in a place like this?" in the anime couldve been interpreted super differently to me bc of how comedically it was framed, but also bc there wasnt enough weight in shot composition/beats to place emphasis on the scene in a more pressing tone. So in the anime it breezed by and steven seemed to just be like "Why do i have to invite chain to hang out?" confused rather than "...What was i just doing here?" confused

ive said it before i think but i really am so envious of gen 1 and gen 2 of pokemon, growing up with gen 4 and 5 and not being aware of just how good the first 2 gens were like oh my goodness... growing up with only platinum i thought this was the standard for story telling in pokemon, and that gen 5 was really doing something never done before by having a sequel that connected its plot together, having characters that were more than one trait and actually pertaining an amount of depth.
BUT NO.... the first two gens already did this?!?!? gen 2 is practically an extension of gen 1, but even better than what bw and bw2 does cuz its two whole seperate regions. but everything from the previous game is still there the way bw2 does it. but now with an entirely new region. and like bw2 they also use the same antagonist team but like idk the roots of the prev games feel deeper, cuz silver the son of The giovanni is now ur rival and its different from N cuz N was already around in the first iteration.. but i havent even talked about the best part of gsc. RED AND BLUE.....
like for so long i had no fucking idea that fighting the prev player character in pokemon was even a thing holy shit holy shit holy shit. but before i lose my shit over that BLUE...... LIKE OK before losing my shit over gsc features THE FACT UR RIVAL??? BECOMES THE CHAMPION?!?!? i am flabbergasted. its beyond me. if i was a freshly hatched kid in fcking 1996 i wouldve fucking lost my shit holding that gameboy in my little grubby kid hands. thats nuts. not only were the gen 4 + gen 5 rivals i grew up with were no fucking water under my bridge, THEY WERE ALSO NICE AS HELL? THEY WERE FRIENDS.. like actually blue is pretty polite from how im interpretating my current gen 1 playthrough but theres still this very apparent air of competition between him and me the player character. like he’ll actually snark at me before i fucking black out which im pretty sure other games have stopped doing?? LIKE HUHHH why would they get rid of that thats such a fun character inclusion thing 😭 
AND THE FACT HE ACTUALLY BECOMES CHAMPION.. DUDE. the fact the rival is actually a rival and not a friend who just makes u fight them randomly THATS CRAZY. THE FACT U BOTH SHARE THE SAME ASPIRATIONS WHICH LATER GENS DEFINITELY DO NOT DO... like at least barry + cheren + bianca, u beat their asses so bad that they change career paths. but not blue oh my god, HE IS AS GOOD AS YOU. A REAL RIVAL.... oh my god. i cant believe i didnt know about this until so much later.
and then... and then he Becomes A Gym Leader. which ok that happens to cheren too which is pretty cool! and bianca is a lab assistant which is also sweet.. but again. this is cuz i beat their asses into a new career path. it aint the same.. but the real kicker. the real gold mine of gen 2. FUCKING RED.. insanity. i dont even know what i can say. dude its YOU youre fighting YOU there.. theres nothing else to say. its amazing. its done amazingly. god actually bw2 couldve been as good as gen 1 + gen 2 if they included their prev protags </3 like sure we’re missing the extra regions but appearances of our prev protags wouldve made up for it.. someone’s made a romhack of that tho so thats cute ^^
but ah seriously i feel like some of pokemon’s best concepts were used in their first gens.... yeah with every new addition theyve built stronger environments etc etc but the fact recent titles are leaning towards more multiverse shit is kinda eh.. ehhh.. but i cant fully judge them until i play them. despite literally everything i still love pokemon and im gonna go and cry to the gotcha mv again now

amazing to see people who are still dedicated to the endverse cause ;___; truly the best television of the last 25 years. question: what's a fic concept involving endverse cas that you haven't encountered yet but would love to see more/any of?

sorry for letting this one sit in my inbox for a bit but its genuinely such a good question i had to take some time to think abt it!! to be honest i dont read a lot of fic (i tend to get "the itch" and consume as much fic as i can in the span of like 2 weeks and then dont touch it again for months idk) so its tough to answer this as something i havent encountered yet/a new idea, but i WILL say im always on the hunt for fresh takes on "old" ideas.
obviously this isnt a new concept and is the basis of a lot of endverse fics, but i always love to see fic exploring how things progressed into what we see in endverse, specifically regarding the breakdown of power and/or the fallout between more characters than just dean and cas. i think a lot of fics tend to cover the same root idea but just a different interpretation of how it would play out in terms of dialogue etc, and im more interested to see unique ways that this power dynamic couldve broken down that havent been explored as much. i dont think every fic has to go the extreme route either, like not every concept has to be as intense as something like first church at the end of the world (not being a hater, just what i would consider an extreme example). but it would be cool to see the cult idea handled in other ways, like maybe with a little more subtle nuance than is presented in canon.
obviously the bias there is strong since that idea of "HOW DID WE GET HERE???" is also what i personally like to explore in my own endverse stuff RHGSDNKJGH
alternatively as a complete wild card, i think someone should put ishim in there. like why not. love a little ishim dynamic lets just get crazy with it

Okay, I finished The Third Force, I read it super fast. SPOILERS DOWN BELOW:

Okay, so yeah I definitely see a lot of future G-Man DNA in Slowslop, more so than the games, since by the end of the book Slowslop pretty much says he’s an alien while in the game he seems human.
As for his relationship with the prototype Alyx, Elena, it’s… weird. I don’t know how far you yourself read into the book, but there was a very strange scene in there where Slowslop projected his consciousness into a book Elena was holding (long story) and he seemed a little TOO pleased to be held by her, and his consciousness got rather touchy-feely with her as he exited the book. Although he hates Orlovsky for pursuing Elena, as you said, that scene and a few other strange comments from Slowslop makes me wonder if he secretly had feelings for her, too, and it was not a father-daughter relationship.
Although I suppose you could make the argument that like the G-Man, he experiences certain emotions differently from most humans, and that feelings of love of any kind are foreign to him. It’s certainly a one-sided thing on Slowslop’s part; much like how Alyx is currently scared and upset at the G-Man by the end of HLA, Elena regards Theodore with dread through most of the book, though by their final scene there seems to be at least a mutual respect.
If you don’t know what happens to Slowslop at the end, I’ll give you the short version: Elena kills Orlovsky and Slowslop catches her, and after she disappears, when guards come find Slowslop with Orlovsky’s body, he takes the blame for it to protect Elena so she can leave the Earth on the Ark, which she does with her brother, Louis, and the six scientists. Afterwards, Slowslop is subjected to the Sensorama that’s an important part of the book, but his alien biology causes the Sensorama’s beams to make him totally explode. I think his fate in the games is different, I believe he leaves Earth with the scientists, make of that what you will.
So yeah, Slowslop, after all the horrible things he was complicit in, did at least one good action before he exploded, and I think it would be fitting if the G-Man made a similar sacrifice for Alyx, though the circumstances would have to be way different since G-Man is so much more powerful than Slowslop.
In conclusion, this book was really weird and I’m not sure if I interpreted things correctly, but that’s Gadget for you. If I ever happen to get in contact with Marc Laidlaw, I’ll ask him about it, for sure.
first of all, holy shit i cant believe you read the whole book that fast. i mean its not big but i am a slow reader so.
second, yeah some things i couldve missed cause its been a while since i went back to the book. but the scenes that stuck with me that established Slowslops feelings for Elena were the ones where he was very rude to Orlovsky, especially when Elena was mentioned.
like the scene where she was dragged alone in a room with Orlovsky and when she left Slowslop was worried for her and made sure she was okay. and the beginning scene where he was telling her to go back to safety in the start of the book. and when he got made at Orlozsky for saying things about Elenas feelings that he didnt like.
Slowslop also clearly has always cared for Elena, even during the flashback scene when he tried to help her and Orlovsky get engaged, only to realize after she ran away that he was a doing a super fucked up thing.
i honestly can only barely remember the last scene i read before i stopped reading the book and having picked it up since. i think it was when Elena found out the Earth was going to crash. so all that other stuff youve mentioned is just beyond me.
its either two things. Slowslop was showing regular love to Elena and he just worded it weird. cause hes an alien, and probably wasnt meant to feel love of any kind, not even family. OR, if Slowslop DID have feelings for her, it seemed like he was more hellbent on making sure she was safe and fine, and never pushed anything like that on her out of respect, either because he knew she wouldnt be interested or because he knew he was old enough to be her dad.
Gadget is a VERY weird series but thats what makes me love it like i did the movie Begotten or the game G-String. i love weird shit that just throws things at you and you need to take a break to process everything, and then when youve cooled down you get back into it.
if you do question Marc about it, i hope he gives you a good answer! not sure how hes doing with emails these days but hes a weird lil old man so take it what you will

We NEED to talk about why this recent episode cemented Stolitz for so many people
While this episode did not have many moments where Blitzø and Stolas were being explicitly romantic towards eachother, the singular reason this episode supports the possibility of Blitzø and Stolas becoming a thing is because...
Blitzø's attitude toward Stolas in this episode is... different...
So many people (myself included) were a tad bit put off from shipping stolitz because there wasn’t really any proof that the relationship was anything more than a mere transaction. The owl wanted to satify his perverted and fetishistic needs, and the imp hesitantly agreed, only because he would receive the book in return. while the former is currently still true, this episode shows that the latter may not be the case.
The bedroom scene

This scene displays the relationship between blitzø and stolas as the tamest its ever been. blitzø doesnt really direct much disgust towards Stolas himself and even says that this monthly meetup isnt something he 'fusses' about. this attitude Blitzø holds when he and stolas are alone contrasts what we've seen in previous episodes where the idea of spending time with stolas seemed to greatly irritate him.
They also seem strangely close in this scene, Blitzø being comfortable with Stolas's advances and them even sharing a cigarette.
Additionally, one of the pieces of evidence that i often see overlooked is that Blitzø did not have to agree to go to the harvest festival with Stolas in the first place. He knew what he'd be getting himself into, with his knowledge of the obvious and embarrasing flirting he dealt with at Loo Loo Land. despite this, not only does he agree to go, he says it sounds like it'll be "a blast and a half". And this time, there isnt even a promise of him being paid!! hes going purely because he wants to
Furthermore, his expression is very different from that which was shown in the original storyboards, showing that there was a reason the crew changed his attitude from "whatever i guess it could be fun 😒" to "sure it sounds like it could be alot of fun 😏"

2. The famed Millie/Striker scenes

These scenes on their own can be interpreted many ways, however, with the context of the opening scene, its quite obvious why Blitzø reacted the way he did in reaction to millie and striker here
Firstly his reaction to Millie calling stolas his boyfriend isn't what it'd be if there was nothing going on between Blitzø and Stolas. If Blitzø were confident in the fact that he had no feelings for Stolas, knowing him, he likely would've made a quip that prevented him from seeming at all insecure or embarrased. he likes to take control of conversations and not leave any room for his weaknesses to be revealed.
This is not what happens. he responds by simply saying he is not above hitting Millie in front of her father. he doesnt deny it. He doesnt make a fun jab at millie herself. he simply allows his embarrassment to be the butt of the joke. THAT DOESNT HAPPEN...like... ever.
Now for the striker scene. I'll l keep it short since many have talked about this before, but the very fact that Blitzø is caught stumbling over his words in an attempt to describe his relationship with stolas is VERY telling. Even in the case where Blitzø did have some feelings towards stolas, I wouldnt put it above him to simply lie and state that there is nothing between them. that wouldve been incredibly easy, and yet... he stumbles.
Even so, he didnt even need to clarify. Striker used the word 'conned' implying he already had the impression that the sex was merely transactional. Blitzø literally couldve ended it at "the short answer is yes" and let striker respond. the fact that Blitzø felt like it was some sort of elephant in the room that needed to be addressed shows how his realtionship with Stolas is on insecure ground and is something he is self conscious about.
Some people have said that this scene is him trying to seem cool in front of striker, but again...he couldve just lied. Lying in order to appear cooler in front of someone he admires wouldve been extremely in character for him, and yet he didnt. its obvious he's experiencing some complicated emotions towards stolas, complicated enough that he couldnt even state the simple lie of 'there is nothing between us'.
3. Blitzø saving Stolas from Striker

Here Blitzø claims that stolas is his easiest ticket to earth, but thats not entirely true. the Grimoire is his easiest ticket to earth. stolas does not need to be alive in order for Blitzø to steal the grimoire and all its power. in fact, that'd be alot easier for the gang as they could keep the book safe in one location as opposed to bringing it back and forth between stolas's place and IMP headquarters and additionally having to go through the trouble of sleeping with him.
Here, Blitzø has the opportunity of taking stolas out of the equation, which would undeniably make things easier for him, and yet, he doesnt take it. theres obviously much more to why he saved Stolas here, and could possibly imply that Blitzø does care about him.
Anyway, those are all the details I caught from this episode. I really do hope Blitzø's feelings in regards to stolas are explored in the following episodes, cause boy am I invested

anyone else think neo’s reports are weird about composers i think theyre weird about composers. lets make sense of joshuas status as composer and hazuki as comparison
this is gonna be a bit long. so anyway the og reports are p straightforward about what Composers (specifically, joshua) can and cannot do:

- Joshua can only pick up Hanekoma’s vibe, because Angel vibes are too high frequency for him to pick up
- Inter-planar contact (so, communication between the UG and the Higher Plane in this case) is difficult, which is brought up because

- The Composer, Joshua, only resides in the UG.
- But the Producer, who is an Angel, mainly resides in the Higher Plane, and only occasionally lingers in the UG.

The whole matter of jumping between worlds highlights the difference between their abilities even more:
- As Composer, Joshua is one of the beings who can jump between worlds, but isn’t meant to do so often. His vibe dipped too low, so Hanekoma had to come retrieve him, because as an Angel this sort of travel is simple for him.
the OG reports make it pretty clear Joshua isnt an Angel
*But. unfortunately its not that easy. because by clearing the final time trial joshua gives you an item called Angel Feather (天使のハネ in JP), of which the description says “Our buyer used divine means to acquire this mysterious feather that was once in the possession of Shibuya's Composer.“ (which some have interpreted as, “in the possession of” meaning “it was given to him” potentially by hanekoma, who actually IS an Angel)
and if things are vague, we turn to the JP to clear us up! but its. still vague there bc it says “バイヤーが特別な力で入手した渋谷エリアのコンポーザーが持っていた謎の羽根“ (The mysterious feather that was held/carried by the Composer of the Shibuya area that the buyer obtained with a special power)
so. we are none the wiser about whose feather this is. i imagine its up to interpretation whether its joshuas feather or hanekomas, who then gave it to joshua. but given how clearly the reports differentiate between the Composer and Angels in regards to their abilities, suffice to say theres two interpretations that are most likely
- Composers arent Angels, their power disparity is just too much
- Composers are Angels, but theyre so much weaker compared to the Angels who reside in the Higher Plane that they’re never referred to as Angels, just as Composers
which takes us to neo, and hazukis little lightshow

i think its notable that the reports dont comment on kubos so-called “exorcism”, and only on haz erasing his noise.
haz himself refers to his little stunt as “exorcising” kubo, while in JP he actually says haiki 廃棄, get rid of, revoke, invalidate.
i think its important that he clarified “i didnt erase him, i exorcised him”. because with kubo, the executor, being an Angel from the Higher Plane, a Composer shouldnt be able to erase someone of higher ranking than them. i think as the person who called upon kubo in the first place, haz could specifically revoke his services and send him back to the Higher Plane.
which means kubo wasnt erased, he was just sent back. hes still kickin
we could leave things right here as they are. Canonically, Composers are so far beneath Angels to a point where even if they were Angels themselves, they are so much weaker than them that they could hardly be referred to as such
this is where the facts end. but im gonna keep going and have fun speculating about things and include some i dont have physical proof of (yet)
its notable that in JP, hazuki says that kubo tried to purify shibuya probably because he wanted to be praised by Hazuki. which is weird if kubos supposed to be higher ranking than haz. (in EN, haz just says hes always been an overachiever) but lets put a pin in that for later 📌
which takes us to the matter of Shinjuku’s Producer. or their lack thereof
throughout all of neo’s reports, there is not a single mention of Shinjuku having a Producer. before neo, we kind of assumed every UG’s setup follows largely the same structure. a Composer, a Conductor, a Producer, and then some Reapers. but Shinjuku does not seem to have a Producer. and i think its because it doesnt need one.
its important to remember Who is writing these reports and Who theyre for. the reports are written by shibuyas Producer, and theyre written for the Higher Plane. and shibuyas Composer cant pick up the vibes of any Angel except hanekoma, so he cant be the one writing the reports for beings he cant even pick up the vibes from, especially since he only resides in the UG.
and yet, hanekoma comments that Hazuki should have filed a report, and that haz is disinterested in the lower planes.

in English its a little vague about who hes talking about, but the JP specifies Shinjukus Composer as the subject of this sentence.
throughout both reports, the UG and RG are considered part of the lower planes. its strange for a Composer to have no interest in the very planes they govern, plus for a Composer to file a report to the Higher Plane when its been established that Joshua, as a Composer, cant even perceive anyone from there.
so i think Hazuki may actually be a proper Angel from the Higher Plane, who was potentially demoted to become Shinjukus Composer.
though you can very much interpret haz “exorcising” kubo as simply “sending him back whence he came”, its of course pretty anticlimactic to see this massive laser beam essentially disintegrate kubo on a molecular level, only for it to have been a quick ride back to the higher plane with kubo being perfectly in tact after. if haz were actually much more powerful than an ordinary Composer, itd make sense why he would have been able to erase an Angel like kubo so. thoroughly.
this would also explain why kubo may have wanted to be praised by hazuki in the JP dialogue. with hazuki potentially being an outlier for Composers and being far Higher ranking than kubo, our executor may have wanted to sucker up a bit. maybe get promoted and away from his “basically a janitor” job if haz puts in a good word for him upstairs
theres also hazukis entire demeanor, and how Bad he is at acting like a normal person

we know of four paths that Players can take
they can choose erasure
they can choose resurrection to return to the RG
they can become Reapers
they can become Angels
and Reapers can eventually become Angels, though its yet unclear if the only way for that to happen is
for them to become Composer (potentially the Lowest Angel-rank there is) and thats it.
or if Composers can ascend and become Actual Angels and eventually reside in the Higher Plane, though how a successor for the seat of Composer is chosen in that scenario is yet entirely unknown since Usually the seat only becomes vacant when the previous Composer is defeated
or if they, as a Reaper, need to Ask the Composer who then asks the Producer to send a guy for evaluation or something
or if the Higher Plane has like, a talent scout guy somewhere.
potentially more than one may apply but at least the last point is the most likely, because

Conductors are invited to the Higher Plane (probably to become Angels) upon purification
(interesting to note that Composers are not mentioned as being invited, which would point to “theyre Angels, but like, weak-ass Angels”)
anyway, the point is that so far weve been told that Angels were Players or Reapers at one point. we know Joshua was a Player for sure, given the morsels of backstory we get from him and Hanekoma. but we dont know if All Angels came from the RG at one point, or if Angels that have always been Angels exist.
either way, the point is that for Hazuki to act so non-human like and to be disinterested in the UG and RG, he either must have been an Angel for a very long time, or he was never human to begin with.
this is relevant to how he interacts with joshua in the Secret Ending, though its a lot less obvious in English, in JP their dynamic is clear: Joshua is his senior, and as his junior, Hazuki looks to him as an example.
for one, thats hilarious. secondly, that recontextualizes like everything
‘course, you could keep the interpretation that theyre just Both weak-ass angels and hazuki just made kubo use a flashy dramatic elevator to the HP and nothing groundbreakingly powerful happened, but thats kinda anticlimactic
so. staying w the idea that hazuki may be a demoted Angel from the Higher Plane, then itd make sense for Joshua to have been Composer for longer than him, and for haz to act Like...That, since he couldve been not-human for a Very long time, or Never was one in the first place, but is still a younger Composer bc he got demoted like. 4 years back or something.
it also explains why Shinjuku may not need a Producer, and why Hazuki is the one writing his reports. its because hes still an Angel from the Higher Plane, so he does not need an intermediary to contact other Angels.
so to summarize what im tryna say here
Hazuki may have initially been a regular Angel from the Higher Plane, before he eventually got demoted to become Shinjukus Composer, despite how disinterested he is in the UG and RG. (he is considered to be “infamously unsympathetic”, a trait which is reinforced in the JP version to be something he is known for amongst the Higher Plane, which could potentially be the reason for his demotion)
Since hes Joshuas junior, that means he hasnt been Composer for as long as Joshua has, so Hazuki looks to him to know what youre even supposed to do/how to act/etcetera as Composer. With his Special circumstances, he does not need a Producer as an intermediary to interact with the Higher Plane, because hes already an Angel so he can do it himself.
whatever Angel Hierarchy there may be, Hazuki is at the very least a higher rank than an Executor, considering how kubo wanted to impress him, and how haz effortlessly got rid of him. with kubo being from the Higher Plane, joshua is decidedly lower ranking than kubo, and cant even pick up his vibe. which clearly positions haz into a unique circumstance as a Composer bc of this discrepancy in ranking and power. amen

theres other things that back this up but i unfortunately do not have a source for them, so This section, take with a grain of salt.
Supposedly, in neo’s data files:
Joshua is referred to as an Advanced Angel
Kubo as a Junior Angel, and
Hazuki as a Senior Angel
i only heard this secondhand and have no way of corroborating this myself, but if this is true then that lines up with the super long super sexy little essay i just wrote up there
this “ranking” solidifes Kubos position as Hazukis underling. which, if he were an ordinary Composer, wouldnt even be possible.
Joshua is notably a different rank from Haz, though its difficult to figure out if “Advanced” is supposed to be Lower than junior, or Higher than senior. thats up to interpretation until its possibly ever acknowledged,
but my interpretation is that an Advanced Angel is lower than a Junior Angel. i think “advanced” in this case is meant to refer to the traditional evolution of players to reapers to the composer, advancing from one status to the next.

so in the files, theyre designated ranks are as follows
Joshua: 男、天使上級 ※前作  (Male, Senior/Advanced Grade Angel ※from the Previous work)
Hazuki: 男、天使上級 (Male, Senior/Advanced Grade Angel)
Kubo:   男、天使下級 (Male, Junior/Lower Grade Angel)
so haz and joshua are the same rank bc theyre both Composers! since thats an internal data text kinda thing it might not have any bearing on like, potential Technical exceptions since they Are both the same “job”, but mightve gotten it under different circumstances.
as for kubo potentially being lower ranking than even a Composer, i think unless we find out what a Producers ranking is, we cant say much abt whether an Executors lower or higher. i kinda mean it in the sense of,  Producers are a Composers subordinate bc they follow their orders and have to create the things theyre tasked to make by the Composer (pins, etc), but may still be “higher” in ranking because they reside in the Higher Plane/jump between parallel worlds, while a Composer cannot. an Executor may be in a similar position where theyre a Composers underling, tasked by Composers to purify things, but may actually be “higher” in ranking because they reside in the higher plane, etc!
i think regardless of whether kubo turns out to be lower ranking than joshua or not, hazuki could still be Even More Higher in a way where he actually has like, sway over whether he could get a promotion! if that was his intent. he could also just be a huge suck up. a real kiss ass. teachers pet for angels

and i additionally remember an interview, though i dont have a source for this claim and i could very much be misremembering, but i recall seeing the reason for hazuki not being the final boss is because they did not think players could suspend their disbelief far enough to accept that the twisters would be able to defeat a being from the Higher Plane.
which is perfectly reasonable, but

Composers are meant to be able to be defeated by Players or Reapers. if hazuki really was so powerful that itd be impossible for them to defeat him, then hed be far too strong to be an ordinary Composer, since thats. how you take over in the first place. thats kinda the whole plot of og twewy.
anyway that concludes my case
