Though you’re not deaf, your hearing is literal shit, to the point that it’s become a thing you joke about a lot with your friends.

Whenever you’re not fully paying attention to someone speaking, you have to ask them to repeat what they were saying since you barely picked up a thing or two about what they were trying to say.

Still, you’re very easy going and chill about the whole situation, and though you hope it doesn’t bother your friends much, you’re not bothered by it either way.

Whether you know what caused your hearing to diminish from the normal parameters, it didn’t even matter anymore.

You first met Nicolas when him and Worick were chasing after a criminal, and the blond called out to you to get out of the way, but you were listening to music on your earbuds so of course you had no idea what was going on behind you - Until the Japanese man bumped into your side roughly, making you fall to the ground with a great thud.

Not only that, but he got off balance and thumbled too, leaving only the Gigolo chasing after that guy while Nic was recovering from the fall.

 The man, now on top of you, got up quickly and extended his hand to you - Which you took - And he started mumbling something.

And you just looked up at him and blinked in confusion.

Which made him look at you weirdly, as to why weren’t you sketching any reaction at all.

“Can you say that again, please?”

And the man repeated the small word - But you didn’t pick it up this time, but in your defense, it sounded like gibberish altogether and you had no idea why he was speaking so unclearly.

Still, you tried to decipher in your head what he tried to say, and then, with a Eureka expression on your face, you let out an ‘Ohhh!’ sound.

“Oh, you apologised! Don’t worry about it, it happens!” your chill, innocent smile surprised him, but at the same time, he thought it was absolutely beautiful.

And what a coincidence, you though he was very attractive too, and seeing how he was just standing there, smiling awkwardly, you asked if he wanted to go for a coffee, to which he immediately agreed, forgetting all about his mission or his partner.

That was your first date.

Sure, he got a lot of shit from Worick after outright deserting him in the middle of a mission, but at the end of the day, he finally got such a nice date!

A date that’s tragic at the basic function of hearing, just like him.

Worick would tease the both of you a LOT. Just because he can.

But he’s very supportive of the two of you, especially since Nic is finally happy.

Speaking of Nic-...

Though he’s not outright speaking about you, he’s always thinking about you, and whenever he does, he has that dreamy smile on his face like he’s drunk in love.

He’s literally the sweetest man in the world, and though a bit clumsy, he’s such a gentleman.

Always brings you flowers or little trinkets, always finds new stories to gossip about with you, and has the best hungs in the world.

This man is so touch starved that if you start petting his hair, he’ll have a kitten grin and outright melt in your touch, even going as far as to cuddle in your arms.

He always wants to impress you, and the best way to do that is with his strength - So as often as he can, even as a surprise, he’ll pick you up bridal style, or as a piggy back ride and walk with you around as much as you like.

And don’t even get me started on how he jumps around with you from the roof of the buildings and laugh merrily with you because you’re having so much fun and he loves making you happy.

He’s absolutely the best boyfriend in the world, bless his soul, and if anyone dares even look at you the wrong way, they will become sashimi.

Overall, the best thing about your relationship is that you don’t have to worry about not hearing what Nic is saying, because you speak in sign language -

But there are some things that he’s forcing himself to speak out loud, and those are his short love confessions.

Whether he says ‘I love you’, ‘You’re beautiful’ or ‘You make me happy’, he will always, without fail, speak it out, and make sure he has your face cupped in  his hands and share a tender eye contact so he knows his feelings are properly shared.

The short version impressed me by showing Yuzuki's range in just under a minute. The high note is moved to the very end of the song from verse 2

Some rationalize it as Rita themself choosing to use this version to represent themself and I can see the reasoning behind Rita's caring interior should've be apparent by now and you have the contrast with Ignorantia but UGH I want the Chief Justice actually singing about their struggle and duty and YOU KNOW MAYBE TOUCH ON THEIR CONNECTION WITH GOKKAN????? FINAL Boss Battle Report!

Our buddy Baldy has 140 hit points and many friends, though not as many as I have. The dragon behind him is much more scary; it has 400. It's dominated by the brain itself, not by anyone on the field that I can kill, unfortunately, and its presence is definitely freaking Hector out something fierce.

Also on the field are four other mind flayers, the three dream guardians at 80HP apiece, and the Crown itself, which leads me to believe this is it, the big kahuna fight, and it's time to pull out all the stops.

The Crown has no hit points but will presumably do unpleasant things when its turn comes around.

Quick look at the other dream guardians with flycam, just because I can.

This one is Hector's obviously, the one we saw during the first half of the game.

These are the other two; I'm assuming if we had another tadpoled companion instead of Jaheira, there would be a fourth on the field? Wonder which of these is Karlach's and which is Lae'zel's. XD And why are neither of them githyanki. It feels like there are lore implications here.

(I haven't done an origin run - are these randomized or are they ones you get in Karlach and Lae'zel origin?)

Anyway. We have this notification on the side of the screen which usually indicates we just need to survive:

I'm doing a hard save at the start of the fight because it feels like it'd be really easy for me to fuck this up - particularly because it is CRITICALLY important that Buddy survives to the epilogue. And, after some consideration, I've decided everyone's first action is going to be spent summoning more friends onto the field.

So we kick off with Aylin, Yurgir, and Buddy exploding onto the field. Tragically, the dragon is immune to fire damage so this is probably not the right moment for Rolan's firestorm, so after some consideration and for roleplay reasons, I have Jaheira summon the Harpers as our fourth summon for the round.

As soon as our first summon hits the field, a bunch of tentacles spring up in response, which is unfair. This seems to happen just in general in response to movement around the brain; luckily they're only about 30hp each and can mostly be removed by Orpheus's black hole attack.

I get full control over the big summons, unlike the trash mob ones which ran on their own recognizance; this is a lot of new characters to learn to deal with on the fly.

After summoning Aylin, Lae'zel manages to almost completely eliminate one of the dream guardians on her first turn.

"Time to bite, my owlbear friend!" Hector says as he summons Buddy, which is adorable.

Aylin is (unsurprisingly) a paladin, so lots of smiting. I think there's probably more about to happen when these four turns are up so we need to be careful not to use everything up too fast though. She removes Hector's dream guardian from the field.

At this point the game crashed so I got to start over and took the opportunity to have Jaheira cast Hero's Feast on everyone before we come up.

Knowing what I know, and realizing that my companions shout about it as soon as the fight starts, I decide to keep everyone in place for the most part to reduce the number of tentacles and immediately kick off Orpheus's netherstone ability:

OK on closer inspection we need to get Orpheus CLOSE to the crown in order to do this. And I guess the idea is we need to do it within four turns before the nautiloid shows up?

Overall this round is going a lot better, although it's a bit scary when the Emperor yeets itself all the way across the field and stuns half the crowd in one go.

Once again, the good guys are all frontloaded which makes the long string of enemy attacks very disheartening.

Karlach and Lae'zel wreck the Emperor's whole world, which is very satisfying to watch:

Orpheus's black hole is continuing to be super useful against all the tentacles that pop up whenever we move around.

Aylin goes down - and immediately pops right back up again because she is a sexy motherfucker.

Ho!

At this point I have everyone open up on the dragon while Orpheus starts booking it towards the Crown. If we can get rid of it, then all is left is the other mind flayers on the platform surrounding the brain and hopefully we can just turtle up around Orpheus and protect him while he works.

Victory on the Dragon! It had the most elaborate death animation too.

Orpheus reaches the Crown! This needs to channel for a whole round so fingers crossed.

"How long are you going to keep this up for?" the remaining dream guardian screams around her 9 remaining hit points. Girl, I don't know, you got another appointment somewhere?

Orpheus gets IMMEDIATELY stunned by a mind blast and loses concentration; we'll try again next round.

All of the illithids can cast Shield which is making them VERY challenging to hit. And I just realized we've reached the last turn before the nautiloid shows up. O.o:

Oh boy.

Unsurprisingly this means now we're getting aerial attacks in addition to everything else. But almost all of the illithids are dead at this point. Just need to keep Orpheus safe for one round!

Hector slips in a bit of ice in the middle of an aerial attack target, whoops D:

Orpheus kicks off the compulsion again. All of the illithids are dead. One of the dream guardians is the last survivor, with two hit points.

Aerial attack goes off, does not kill Hector! And we're now only friends between us and Orpheus so I think we've got this in the bag! Everyone together on the platform for the moment of triumph.

The last remaining Harper summon shoots the last dream guardian for her last two HP. Orpheus completes the summon. The screen shakes, then fades to white...

Hi, I have been seeing lot of those blorbos from the anime (Jujutsu Kaisen, I think?) on my dash, getting kinda blorbo osmosis here. One who is dark haired and other is white haired with blue eyes? But I tried to google them and it seems one of them is dead from the start? I like their dynamics but I am mightily confused now. What is their deal? Is he dead-dead? (I am fine with spoilers. Trying to decide if its worth the watch.)

Oh no, I am so sorry 😭😭😭 You are indeed right, the anime is Jujutsu Kaisen and the black haired guy is Geto Suguru and the white haired blue eyed one is Gojo Satoru, and yes, again, you're right, one of them is dead 😭😭😭 Geto Suguru dies in the movie that is set before the events of the anime and then he continues to haunt the narrative, so to speak. The spoiler here is that he's being possessed by some curse who uses Geto's body.

So yes, Geto is dead-dead and ehm, to be honest, a lot of other people are too, so only start this show/manga if you're fine with all of your faves dying XD

I think it's very worth to watch it, the animations alone are breathtaking and I also like the overall story, even though my faves are like the most tragic love story I have seen in a while. Their friendship certainly haunts this entire show but it's for you to decide if you can watch this knowing that one of them is already long gone and only being hurt by flashbacks of their youth 😭

I hope this even somehow made sense, if not, I'm very sorry but I'm also here for more questions!

Chapter 13

Ah. The Chapter. I'm getting giddy before I've even started reading.

Three-days-long break? Harrow, sweetie, I hope you've appreciated it because you're in for a ride xd

Harrow trying to get up, while being watched, being too slow and getting manhandled for it? I love the subtle tension and embarrassment.

"Harrow was shocked and then furious with himself at how thoughtlessly he did as ordered" - the gradual resignation and obedience, intentional or not, never fails to amaze me. The writing is incredibly well-paced.

Harrow having Conroy's hands on his throat and immediately expecting to be choked? *sobs*

Okay but the parallel between Harrow sacrificing folks on an altar and him being on the anvil, looking much the same as the people he sacrificed? Beautiful.

The "purified through pain" never fails to make my blood boil, Jesus.

Emmet looking away *sobs some more*

"On the anvil we are all forged, and on the anvil you will be broken." Okay ngl, Conroy has a way with words. That was kind of beautiful. (Sorry Harrow)

Those boys watching, almost gleefully, before realizing the reality before them is much more brutal? Wow.

"You can control how long this takes and how bloody you're about to be, Harrow." God, I love the irony so much. He absolutely could not control any of this. He tried, as he always has, but the entire experience was Harrow coming to terms with the fact that he Is Not In Control.

"Glare if you understand me. Ah, good." I'm sorry but this is hilarious xd

"The horse-kick force of the blow followed a second later by the pain, delayed but brilliant and sharp." Wow. Just wow. (I'm starting to think the author was actually there, ngl)

Harrow making a sound only after the sixth blow? Jesus, that man was Something. Makes his downfall even more tragic, looking back.

Whipping over the already freshly whipped skin? JESUS. How Harrow didn't pass out or throw up right then and there is truly beyond me.

Harrow looking Emmet right in the eyes during this? CHILLS. LITERAL CHILLS.

Conroy continuing to whip Harrow after he's passed out was gruesome, ngl. Just imagining the scene, the horrified boys, especially Emmet, Harrow's back likely looking shredded and receiving even more cruelty on top of that, likely the only sound being the sound of the whip? Goosebumps.

Chapter 14

Harrow resembling a feral, injured animal lashing out at Emmet is beautiful for some reason. I bet he was quite graceful to witness before all this, with his confidence and wine and reputation.

Harrow's attitude switching and him being soft with the boy? Heartbreaking. They both had their lives changed forever in that cell, in ways both different and similar. They both learned the thin line between righteousness and cruelty and this story overall is just incredible for that.

Harrow feeling the bit of reprieve when the cold cloth touched his back? Making me incredibly sad for some reason.

"Luckily the combined weight of both men was enough to hold the mat down, or Harrow might have dragged it to the wall with how hard he was pulling on that chain, Emmet thought." Wonderful detail, but also I love that Harrow still had strength in him then.

Harrow is older than me and yet somehow I feel incredibly fond of him when he reveals he's just 27.

Harrow's interactions with Emmet being the only soft moments in captivity, and yet even they can't go without pain (of the healing) is just... yeah.

"I wasn’t exactly born an unredeemably evil warlock, you know. I was seventeen once… A very long time ago.

Emmet didn’t answer, and then door was closing, and the bolts turned in the lock." Goddddddd. This killed me.

Chapter 15

"Gears were turning somewhere and he was lifted until his toes brushed the ground, driving a breathless sob out of him as his weight against muscle and bone tore and opened some of the tender places on his shoulders. He felt thin rivulets of blood begin to trickle between his shoulder blades and down his back." REDDDDDDDDD I can't with your cleverly simple and vivid descriptions.

"Ah. And there we have the whole of the man, reduced to nothing more than that." I have to hand it to Conroy, his lines are immaculate.

Man, Conroy REALLY wanted Harrow irreparably and thoroughly broken. Burning an already burned man (whose specialty was fire)... there's just so much irony, cruelty and symbolism in here.

Harrow actually wanting to be burned, rather than face the intrusive and haunting memories? Despairing, memorable and gorgeous.

Chapter 16

"That wasn’t pain. That was worse. Because he wanted it." Red, I don't even know what to tell you. These few chapters specifically are peak whump for me. Turning Harrow's mind against himself by making him succumb to the need for comfort and reprieve is still one of the best moments in the entire whump community's history. This is the essence of the psychology of whump for me.

Yeah I can't even imagine how Harrow feels looking back on this day...

Chapter 17

"You bastard!! I couldn’t even try t’ defend myself, I was out of my mind with fever, you sick bastard!!" YES THAT'S EXACTLY IT, HARROW. You were helpless and defenseless and that was taken advantage of. Sound familiar? (I still love him but boy, did he need that lesson)

"Blood met cold air, and stung in the open cut." Loving this.

Aaaaaaand once again, ladies and gentlemen, Harrow's pride is a natural response of his, which aids his downfall. Conroy really butchered him to get him to beg... damn.

Choujin X ch33.2 be like

Azuma keeps on learning the hard way that he’s not the hero of Tokio’s story anymore

okay so yeah we definitely don’t stan a goddess cult leader who forces her “prophecies” on a whim onto people around her

finally, i have my doubts about how long that trio of theirs can keep on working half decently without Azuma someone eventually leaving but…

i do enjoy them, they’re cute xD

TL;DR

So by ch33 or so, we finally understand the premises of this manga. Slow built-up stories usually don’t bother me, but with the rather shallow depiction of worldbuilding so far, the Choujin X series really mostly has the cast holding the spotlight. And by that, I mean the main characters. So I hope it’ll pick up, because I don’t really understand how this series currently gets a full serialization?

Honestly, I really enjoy the rather strained dynamic between Azuma (who lacks self control) and Tokio (who can’t seem to give it his all) and, as a mirror, the more trusting and complementary dynamic between Tokio and Ely. The dynamic between Ely and Azuma revolves more around Tokio than either of them, but it’s slowly developing on its own terms, which creates a nice contrast between them. 

Ely is an absolute ray of sunshine, who seems more sure of her goals only because she lives with the bad example of her mother as a constant reminder of who she might become, whereas Tokio was sheltered so far by his sister and Azuma and has trouble deciding on how he should live his life. Azuma’s more in a blind corner, because he can’t seem to let go of his knight in shining armor role that he and Tokio bestowed upon him when they were kids: I’d say it’s Expectations™ that would eventually do the most damage on him, but he might still manage to change paths in time. :)

However, the rest of the cast isn’t particularly interesting or well written.

Kagomura’s tragic backstory and Momoma’s obvious kindness are too cliché and don’t cut it for me, though I’d say it’s interesting that Kagomura’s predicament doesn’t put him more at the center of the story. 

Sandek is boring as hell despite supposedly being some kind of mentor and leader figure. 

I enjoy Ichiro’s character, though it’s interesting that he’s not more morally ambiguous considering the emotional strain his choujin powers should put on him. 

As for the villains, the guy in the noh mask is creepy, but for now they’re all nothing more than cultists who believe in the “prophecies” of a mad woman, or mercenaries who get paid for the job. 

Biggest issue with this series and why, in my opinion, it doesn’t get a lot of hype is the lack of worldbuilding. While we now understand the first chapter of the series thanks to the latest released chapter, Choujin themselves and their related powers are still a huge question mark ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. This is most likely because the pace is slow and we have two or three worldbuilding elements which make barely any sense. Specifically, it’s an issue because, without worlbuilding, it’s impossible to replace everything that happens within context. 

If Sensei were to spend a little more thoughts on the worldbuilding, I don’t doubt that this series could become more interesting than it currently is. I don’t know how well it’s received by Japanese readers but, if I’m honest, Ishida-sensei’s previous success with TG is probably the reason why Choujin X has a continued serialization, because I find that on every aspects, aside from the main characters, Choujin X unfortunately doesn’t stand strongly. :/

Asfghajsdg but in all seriousness, I love that we both started getting active around the BB tumblr fandom around the same time, because even though I was a Soulsborne junkie, I had never found a stable group of lore-friends to enjoy it with, and throughout 2020-2021, I was just drifting aimlessly after watching my old fandom community collapse.

I had been only using tumblr for random shit on another account before this one, but one day I looked up something about the Doll and Gehrman, kinda wondering if the whole “Even the Doll” creep-theory had any other interpretations. I just didn’t like the idea that Miyazaki had written his main “sad old man” of Bloodborne to be a weirdo because it didn’t sound…right? Something felt really off lol. His “sad old men” types usually are dark because of their grave mistakes that led to the deaths of people they cared about/innocent people.

It’s always more tragic than it is gross, and Miyazaki is big on that type of story-telling. He likes his refinement. Sure enough, that gave me the hunch that the Doll wasn’t…ya know.

And voila! I stumble across your brilliant post! I think it was one of the things that made me finally create a Soulsborne blog because I wanted to reblog it. I’m not sure if that’s the exact timeline, but it was definitely part of what drew me over here.

And now here we are, going strong, trying to move on after going through fandom drama hell, and it’s been three years!

But yeah, overall, Soulsborne games are just written in such a way that it genuinely helps to know all of them on at least basic story level to understand each of them individually! The more I learned about reoccuring themes in other games in the series, the better my lore understanding became. You know I would not do shit on Research Hall and Deep Sea without DS3, or better grasp ER characters without entire DS trilogy! If you don't want to play, just learn their themes and story, I promise it helps a lot!

Anyways thank you for the nice words; I had not even noticed how fast the time went by! It feels like I have not done "enough" considering three years span, but maybe I am underestimating myself and focusing too much comparing amount of my drawings compared with faster and more talented artists. After all, fandomry is first about discussions and passion, and I've had nothing BUT that on the way x) So yeah, let's just give up and die watch fandom crash and burn. Because, you know what? 42. Have you ever received a comment that particularly stood out to you for whatever reason?

Yes, many. Too many to mention, to be honest. I've been writing fanfics for over ten years now and I'm continuously amazed by how kind and loving my readers are.

Though I would like to highlight a certain type of comment that I've been getting more and more lately, more specifically since I started writing Who Holds the Devil. Because that fic, more than any of my others, seems to evoke a lot of emotions, reflection, and self-discovery in my readers. Never have I gotten so many comments telling me that reading a fic has fundamentally changed something within them.

It's been everything from realising how abusive their relationships have been to when to stand up for themselves to finally having a name for the panic attacks they've been experiencing.

Who Holds the Devil has made it completely impossible for me to ever doubt the impact my writing can have on people. Because, not going to lie, sometimes I do. Sometimes I feel like an introverted little weirdo, just sitting here, writing about people I want to see kiss. But it's so, so much more than that and nothing has made that more clear to me than the comments I get on Who Holds the Devil.

I'm both humbled and grateful every time I'm told that my writing has made someone realise something about themselves, especially when it involves their mental health, trauma, or just overall well-being. I'm not a therapist and I obviously can't offer any concrete help as such, but to help someone realise or admit to themselves that Something Is Wrong? That's still a very, very big thing. And the fact that I can? It will never not blow my mind.

So that's definitely a kind of comment that stands out to me and probably always will. The fact that I'm able to change people's lives with my fics is beyond astounding to me (and also a little bit intimidating, not going to lie, but not necessarily in a bad way?). And I'm truly grateful to every single one of you who has sent me comments like these. Not only is your bravery and willingness to share inspiring, but it gives me so much joy to know I've been able to help or make a difference. Thank you 💜

Here's an excerpt from chapter 34 of Who Holds the Devil (though I might edit it slightly before it's posted xD):

Ga On looked down at the tumbler cradled between his hands, his thumb sliding along the smooth, curved edge. He could see his reflection, slightly distorted, in the surface of its content.

"Don't ever do that to me again."

A beat passed, tense and loaded, before Ga On looked up at Yo Han. The silence within the study was deafening — unwieldy — and Ga On could see the slight hint of hesitation on Yo Han's face. It was subtle, barely there, mingled with something that could be regret.

Ga On realized why Yo Han didn't answer right away.

"Intentionally," he added. "Don't intentionally do something like that to me again."

It would be just like Yo Han to make a difference between the two which, in all honesty, was beyond tragic. Yo Han didn't trust himself to not accidentally manipulate the people around him, to the point where an agreement had to be formulated with that in mind. He didn't want to give anyone false hope or make promises he couldn't keep.

It was moments like these that made it obvious that, somewhere deep down, Yo Han still saw himself as a monster. Someone who couldn't be trusted to be around people. Someone who might end up hurting those he cared about, without even meaning to.

Someone dangerous, vicious, and hurtful.

And for the first time in a long while, as much as he hated himself for it, Ga On almost agreed.

Yo Han didn't hesitate this time.

"I promise."

His one-track mindedness

Okay, so now I want to try to point out a very important thing that I believe is misinterpreted by many fans. The fact that he was so adamant on convicting Barok. Again, as I mentioned at the very beginning, Kazuma is a person who believes Justice is what solely drive truth. For him, his father was unjustly trialed and executed for a crime he did not commit. He believe that by finding the truth about his father he can finally bring true justice to his lost father and ultimately to himself. What drove his -vengeance- was his desire to prove the innocence of his father. For ten whole years, he has been tenaciously clinging to this belief, it was the reason he was able to continue living. Now comes in an opportunity to actually bring justice to his father’s case, and Barok is accused of murdering Gregson, Kazuma sees this as a golden opportunity. He truly believes that Barok who -wrongfully- lead to the execution of his father, was really the one who killed Gregson, and was the reaper. For him, the truth and the justice that entails it lie in convicting Barok. And he has been convincing himself this for a long time. That is why even when he presents compelling evidence and smart arguments to back up his claims, he obstinately clings to and returns to the idea that Barok is the ultimate villain. Even when it was proven that Barok did not kill Gregson, he was very sure that he is the reaper and refused to yield from that line of thought. The funny thing is that all his arguments afterwards and until he breaks down are all plausible and logical and obviously pointing to Stronghart as the true reaper, but his anger, one-track mindedness and emotional instability and desire to avenge his father made him blinded to the truth and truly believe Barok is the reaper. He was like a broken record by that time. Until Ryuunosuke knocked some sense into him and he reevaluated his stance. And that is the interesting part. He did not really want vengeance against Barok specifically, he wanted justice for his father regardless of who the reaper is. That is why he shifted gears quickly the moment he realized that Stronghart was the one behind everything, and after he realized that everyone involved in that tragic case were victims who also chose tragic paths and were not completely innocent. The justice he sought was much more complicated than Barok or any reaper in this case wrongly convicting his father.

His humanity and moral compass

This brings me to the idea I saw roaming around that Kazuma became a prick and horrible person and that he was one all along. Again, returning to my very first points, Kazuma had always had an intact moral compass within him, and even after everything that he attempted to do or that happened to him he was able to maintain this compass. As I described above, he quickly stopped going after Barok the moment he knew that Barok was not the reaper. He even acknowledged Barok’s diligent work to bring justice all these years. He apologized to Daley Vigil, knowing that he triggered his trauma but still taking accountability for it. He was willing to turn himself in after all this (even if the writers decided to just throw this out of the window by the end of the story but that is an overall problem of how rushed the final case is). And at the end, he decided to separate himself from Ryuunosuke because I believe he knew that what he has done to Ryuu was irreparable for the time being and for them to return the same way they were before, they should go their separate ways and Kazuma should try to become a better person and atone for his past. He is still very conscious of what is right and wrong and is willing to be accountable. That did not change from the Kazuma we knew before.

His friendship with Ryuunosuke

Okay, this is the last point I want to discuss I promise I will stop talking after this XD.

As I mentioned at the very beginning, Kazuma genuinely cares about Ryuunosuke and thinks highly of him, and so does Ryuunosuke. This fact is solid throughout and is not lessened by his rudeness and ruthless comments towards Ryuu. As evident in the extra content as well as their banter during the first trial, while Kazuma is rude towards Ryunosuke, Ryuu does come up with smart and equally witty comments he thrusts in Kazuma’s face. Ryuu himself is quite the blunt guy who can be rude himself when he wants. In other words, before Kazuma’s ‘death’, they basically engaged in typical banter of typical friends.

After his return, even though during the trial he seemed harsh towards Ryuu, these comments are just the same ones of good old Kazuma. Ryuu even starts to throw similar comments to him as the trial continues. The difference is that now there is a new-founded tension with that happened and due to all the factors I mentioned before. I especially like that in spite of being ‘against’ one another, with close attention one can see that they were both working together and were more in tandem with each other than what initially seems otherwise, with this being more evident in the first half of the trial before the reveal of the assassination exchange (this piece of info added further to the tension and to the very believable distrust Ryuu started to feel towards Kazuma).

Another thing to add is that Ryuunosuke despite his anger and frustration towards Kazuma, he still understood him eventually, knowing how to drag him back to reality. Even if what he said was kind of raw and -brutal-, Kazuma needed to hear such statements especially from the person he trusted more than anyone in the world.

Their ending is I believe the most appropriate taking everything into consideration. They both need to heal, Kazuma more so, and their healing preferably should be as they are separated.

Honestly a part of me wanted more proper closure after everything that happened. Like Ryuu being more direct with Kazuma about his feelings regarding all this. I picture in an alternate ending Kazuma gets to serve sometime in jail (XD) and Ryuunosuke sees him there, they have a very honest heart to heart talk, before Ryuunosuke goes and they both get the closure they wanted with the same convictions they both reached by the end of the canon ending.

All in all, their relationship is a very bittersweet one, though that is to be expected with everything that transpired, and is mainly in part because of how much bittersweet Kazuma's character arc is.

This turned out to be a full-blown character analysis XD Regardless I am happy and Kazuma deserves this because he is a very fascinating character with so many layers and aspects to him I cannot help but find something new every time I look deeper.

MF x SQY, Team China fic

Ahhh, yeah, this fic was originally meant for rarepair week (although I’d been wanting to write MF/SQY for a while before that).

The main reason it’s been stuck in WIP limbo for so long is that I wrote it with a different cadence than I usually would (I’m not sure how obvious that is in the snippet I picked, but it feels really glaring when I read the story as a whole). And, yeah, I guess I just get stuck on that whenever I sit down to edit-and-post it. XD

I think I probably also need to rip a fair chunk of the smut out, too, tbh. But it’s mainly the (overall) voice that’s causing me issues.

Snippet:

Song Qiying had slipped the keycard carefully in his pocket. And then… despite him having paid close attention to what he had predicted might happen next… despite him having glanced to where Mo Fan had been resting back upon his elbows by the front desk not a moment earlier… Song Qiying had still come incredibly close to missing the ghosting sensation of Mo Fan stepping quietly past him and pickpocketing the keycard clean away. If Song Qiying had possessed even a fraction of Qiao Yifan’s enthusiasm for PDA, he might have been tempted to catch hold of Mo Fan’s wrist and illustrate just how much he’d enjoyed such a proficient display of skill. As it was, of course… Song Qiying had known that both he and Mo Fan would appreciate the wait.

FangQiao, Lavender Haze (FangGaoQiaoWang sedoretu stuff)

God, I love this fic. I love it so much that I’ve written, like, uh, three-and-a-half fucking different version of it at this point, and it’s driving me a little more insane each time I open it.

Eventually, I will either pin down a version or else just give in and “two cakes” myself. (The latter is pretty likely, tragically, given there are a few different ways my brain would like to explore the idea of these two couples coming together into a group marriage within this worldbuilding shape.)

Unfortunately, I do also think that this story suffers from me trying to do too many things at once with it, which… I guess I keep trying to avoid contemplating because that way lies me having to write multiple fics within the same ’verse. (Which is something I get weirdly squirrelly about, at least when the ’verse is my own.) On the other hand, of course, refusing to deal with that is, well, how I keep writing different versions and not… y’know… being happy with them.

Anyway, I really enjoy the worldbuilding in this. And, apparently, the fact that they’re doing the dishes for at least half of it. XD

Snippet:

Fang Shiqian sees the moment Qiao Yifan registers his presence. He sees the way Qiao Yifan’s shoulders stiffen, the way Qiao Yifan’s spine straightens as Qiao Yifan… what? Hesitates? Panics? Gathers himself down into whatever version of himself it is that Qiao Yifan thinks he ought to be right now? Look at me, Fang Shiqian thinks, resentment lining his lungs. Look at me without the fucking politeness on. Qiao Yifan has always been so good at polite. So good at feelings, and at knowing when to put them away. It’s one of the reasons Fang Shiqian had even agreed to this whole— this whole thing that they’re doing. This whole thing that they’ve gone and done. Qiao Yifan is a good boy. A good man. Everyone knows that. He’s just… nice, really. He’s just really very nice. Fang Shiqian should have known he’d learn to loathe it.

Infinite & Rouge for the Ask Game

Infinite

First Impression : His design and powers were cool, but his overly edgy characterization and terrible story writing to go with it just didn't do it for me

Impression now : The power of headcanons and AU's has saved this character for me lmao. I CHOOSE to believe he was written as a tragic character who's acting out of guilt for not being able to save his squad to make him seem more interesting. I don't like what he is in canon, but I do like his potential, what he COULD'VE been. I replayed Sonic Forces for no reason and I found myself laughing at every edgy remark he made this time XD

Favorite moment : I actually prefer the way he was written in the IDW prequel comics over the game, so I'll say that. Is that weird? I got more of an impression of him being more over-confident and sassy in the comics, whereas in the game he just seemed kind of bland in terms of personality? I really hope that's not just me

Idea for a story : Aside from the Shadow the Hedgehog 2 AU, I once had this fun idea where Amy found Infy (that's what I call him lol) after the events of Sonic Forces, and wanted to help him out. I think if there could be anyone to try and redeem Infinite, it would be Amy.

Unpopular opinion : I don't really have any real ones, so, Infinite in a ponytail is supreme

Favorite relationship : He doesn't really have any in canon, so I'll pick one from one of my AU's. Infinite and Eclipse are like brothers, but they absolutely DISPISE one another (unless they're complaining about their mutual hatred for Shadow.) Infinite gets easily angered by Eclipse, but maybe that's because Eclipse will go out of his way to annoy him? Just for fun XD

Favorite headcanon : This is moreso one I made up (Or at least, I haven't seen it,) but I like it a lot. After Sonic Forces, Infinite didn't get absorbed into the Phantom Ruby, but rather, instead, the Ruby transported him into Null Space with the last of its power before shattering. That's where he is now, trapped in the nothing.

First Impression : I didn't really have one, tbh. I was just like "oh, there's a bat too, cool."

Impression now : She's an awesome character, and I REALLY wish she wasn't done so dirty by the fans, because she's a lot more than that. People will joke about her "big personality" when referring to something else when, in fact, she actually DOES have a personality! She's sassy and overall such a queen, I love her.

Favorite moment : Honestly she has a lot of good moments that I can think of at the top of my head, I can't choose just one. (I am NOT very decisive)

Idea for a story : None right now

Unpopular opinion : I don't really have one, so she should team up with Manic. They'd make a great thieving pair lol

Favorite relationship : The one she had with Team Dark in Sonic Universe, no doubt.

AN OWL HOUSE SHOW RETROSPECTIVE BEFORE THE FINALE PART 1 SEASON 1:

So we’re around two weeks from the finale and I’ve spent the last two weeks rewatching all of the owl house (I’m not the kind of person who can binge a lot of episodes in a small amount of time). First of all my relationship with this show is somewhat unconventional to say the least I started watching the episodes on Disney + while just season 1 was on their because I had heard of the show’s similarities to gravity falls (which is one of my favourite shows) and really liked it and was excited to watch the later episodes however due to living in the uk Disney who in their complete dumbfuckery had already stopped airing the Disney channel / Disney XD here like they used to do I had to wait for the episodes to come to Disney + and so I couldn’t really interact with the fandom to avoid spoilers which was infuriating. Even more because with every chunk of season 2 that came on Disney + it became clearer that the owl house is one of the best shows to come out of the last few years with amazing characters , story and animation that was simultaneously really funny but also very mature and the fact that Disney decided to shorten the show is legitimately one of the dumbest decisions in the company’s history and We can only hope that them finally realising the shows success means we may get future content in this world hopefully more than a book or two although only time will tell. Anyway with the introduction over I’m gonna talk about the actual episodes not all of them I’ll be skipping most of seasons 1 cause it’s the only season with filler episodes and probably a few on season 2 but not cause their filler I just don’t have much to say about them:

A lying witch and a warden/witches before wizards: The first two episodes of the show but arguably some of the lesser quality compared to later episodes probably due to luz, eda and king being the only actual main characters but they are still important from a story sense so their still fine episodes in there own right… however the first two S3 specials make these first two episodes way more tragic I’ll obviously talk more about the S3 episodes when I get to them but damn does what we learn about luz’s past with her father’s death being the catalyst for her love of azura make these episodes so much more interesting in retrospect and S3 E2’s all I’ve ever wanted was to be understood makes this idea of luz’s desperation for a sense of belonging and believing she’s special to escape some of the unfortunate parts of her life so fucking tragic. I also find it funny how people referred to S1 luz as luz before the trauma when she’s been using her love of azura and hyperactive attitude to deal with her trauma in the first place. So yeah while this doesn’t change the fact these are both just ok episodes S3 does contextualise them in a completely new light.

I was a teenage abomination: the first episode to introduce willow, gus , AMITY and hexside as a whole in general a step up from the last two episodes purely because of the introduction of new main characters including amity (we will get back to amity later when she gets character development) who in this episode is mean girl who is absolutely feral. This is also the first episode to introduce abomination magic which will become one of the most interesting and unique parts of TOH’s magic system which essentially combines concepts such as magitech, homunculi and used in a way similar to waterbending in atla (quite appropriate considering katara and amity share a VA) but yeah a good episode overall.

The intruder: in my opinion this is TOH’s first great episode while the plot twist is quite obvious the suspense the episode creates is really good the way luz learns her own unique way to do magic through the glyphs is great the owl beast is genuinely quite creepy mainly for me due to the noises it makes but one of my favourite parts is how edas curse is a beautiful done metaphor for chronic illness shown through the line “nobody likes having a curse but If you take the right steps it’s manageable” (or something like that I misremember stuff easily ok) anyway not much else to say genuinely great episode overall.

Covention: This episode is basically what sets up most of the plot of season 1 with introducing lilith and her mission to capture eda overall lilith in season 1 is a pretty generic villain compared to what will come later with belos in season 2 onwards. Lilith isn’t that interesting until in season 2 when she becomes the much superior cool aunt lilith. This episode is also what introduces the concept of the coven system and one of the most interesting ideas of toh that being that it’s magic system is constricted and controlled by the ruling government the emperor’s coven and that the coven system is an inherently evil thing so Is separating the different types of magic which is s thing that many magic systems in fantasy do so it’s cool toh takes that idea and puts it in a negative light. This episode also contains TOH’s first major fight scene and oh god it’s great. Overall toh definitely does quality over quantity with its big fight scenes so this is great for the first major one the giant Hooty statue that grows smaller hooty’s is definitely the best part. This episode is the first one that shows luz and amity’s relationship and amity try’s to kill luz for the second time although this is also the last time amity try’s to kill luz so progress? Anyway good episode.

Lost in language: not much to say about this episode except more lumity development which is cool i like Edric and emira and. I like how emira calling luz cutie and luz blushing because of it is an early tease of luz being bi. And finally amity’s line about trying to figure out why luz keeps trying to be around her and deciding on luz is a bully has literally been living rent free in my head since I watched the episode because it’s such a good line and unexpected that the character that has been presented as a bully thus far actually thinks the main character is trying to bully her is something I’ve never seen in another piece of media before and It’s just interesting how amity views luz in this episode.

Something ventured ,someone framed: I hate / love Matt tholomule so much and the detention pit is so insanely overkill it’s funny like they casually just throw kids into a lovecraftian horror for detention and everyone from the BI just thinks that’s normal.

Escape of the palisman: PLEASE tell me we’re gonna get a conclusion to who the bat queens original owner was int the finale.

Sense and insensitivity: the episode that first introduced kikimora my beloved / should probably be put on trial for crimes against witch kind.

Adventures in the elements: ice ice lesbians. But this is a really good episode too and I love how luz finds the second ice glyph also love how at this point eda is fully willing to let the blights die if she can escape the slitherbeast which if that did happen do you think eda would let Odalia and alador know or she would pretend not to know. Just me wondering that ok MOVING ON.

The first day: the first day 13 episodes in is a fine episode luz has the worst look with school in the universe and gets sent to detention eternal on her first day of school for mixing magic where she meets the detention squad including: viney , guy who knows French for some reason and a talking dog who can tell the future they’re great the part where luz is looking through the secret openings and see’s amity trying to convince herself she’s not gay for luz is hilarious and adorable. The main plot focusing on the invading basilisk is ok in the episode but cooler in retrospect because it sets up vee.

Understanding willow: the first episode that sets up willow and amity’s past friendship and also willow’s character arc of becoming more self confident in herself which is funny cause she spends most of the episode partially comatose. This is also the first episode where amity transitions from having gay thoughts for luz to being blushing tomato gay girl which is great. I love how this episode sets up the idea of entering the mind in a lower risk environment compared to hollow mind where all the shit hits the fan. The fucking he’ll scene with eda being absolutely manic is great. Cool how this is the first episode that shows odalia and alador. It’s interesting how amity’s parents forced boscha to be her friend considering what we learn later about boscha having a crush on amity. And what odalia says when she finds out luz is amity’s girlfriend. Makes me wonder if odalia and maybe alador thought boscha would be an arranged marriage for amity in the future it’s interesting to think about. I like how because amity is nice to willow now they don’t immediately become friends again because of what amity did but they still are understanding of each other it’s a very nuanced ending.

Enchanting grom fright: not much to say for this episode despite the fact it’s essentially the episode that started to skyrocket the owl house to popularity because damn the dance scene is one of the most important and beautiful scenes in animation of recently and the only things to top it are later episodes of the the owl house Itself. Luz being so oblivious to amity is hilarious but sort of sad considering it’s out of a fear of previous rejections on Luz’s part that cause her to not even assume the idea that someone has a crush on her damn this girl needs a hug. Also the ending first teasing vee but as this terrifying doppelgänger instead of the wholesome cinnamon bun she ended up being is just the cherry on top

Wing it like witches: it’s funny how confident amity was dancing with luz in the previous episode probably only fully realising what she’d done in retrospect explaining why amity is a complete and utter lesbian disaster in this episode every other sentence from amity in this episode is gold and she has become an evolved gay tomato new power unlocked being scooped up by your crush and going oh wow sports. When I first watched this episode I had to watch it again because of just how fucking wholesome I haven’t even talked about the episode itself but it doesn’t matter rename the episode to amity down bad because that’s the highlight of the episode and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Agony of a witch/young blood old souls: the two part season 1 finale amity was too gay so she’s been sent to the time out corner so is not present throughout the rest of the season finale. It’s interesting how willow and gus actually respect belos at the start of the episode thinking he’s the BI’s greatest witch showing how far and wide belos’s propaganda has spread. The general aesthetics of belos’s castle due to how the BI has been shown to be hellish in its design with all the plant life being read literally being on the dead body of a long dead Titan and bonesborough’s design especially invoke that feeling so it’s appropriate that the villains castle is actually the opposite looking like this holy palace from its golden interior and the emperor coven’s design of gold and white are not that of typical villains but due to the unruly chaotic design of the BI makes the emperors coven look like they do belong their which they don’t they are their to restrict freedom of the people and though most of its members don’t realise they are helping bring about there people’s destruction for a ruler that secretly hates them. The designs of stained glass windows obviously show the religious inspiration of the emperor’s coven which is really cool but when you enter the emperor’s throne room you see the twisted pipes and the steampunk dark atmosphere and the giant beating heart which can always be heard in the background of the throne room which always adds to the ambiance their making it way more terrifying. Now my thoughts on belos in this episode is that with what we now know about him everything he does in this episode is way more intriguing and interesting. But taking this episode on its own belos is presented as incredibly mysterious but also not super interesting on his own he is shown as a tyrant that has very vague goals who lies to his underlings to get them when I first watched this episode I saw belos as in a joking manner “ sans undertale hollow knight reject” referring to the mask getting shattered later in the episode revealing his one blue eye and the fact his mask makes him look like a hollow knight character (although considering how similar some of his actions are to that of hollow knight’s pale king I guess I sort of predicted the future with that one) little did I know belos would soon become one of my favourite villains of all time as season 2 progressed. The second fight scene between eda and Lilith in agony of a witch is even better than the last with it being anime as fuck. And considering how similar due to eda being morally opposite sibling fighting each other with similar powers and with the good one in a red colour scheme and the bad one in a blue colour scheme the fact that Lilith never said “foolishness eda foolishness” as a DMC reference is one of the shows biggest missed opportunities in my opinion. Also Lilith being the one to curse eda is an insanely obvious plot twist considering their was literally no other character introduced at that point who could have realistically done it but it works in the story as a way to show how far people will go to serve the emperor. In young blood old souls luz goes into murder mode and basically single-handedly takes down the entire conformatorium security including warden wrath who was the main threat in the first episode so it’s a good way to show how far luz has come as a character power wise it’s also cool how the first and last episode of season 1 takes place in the conformatorium. When we get to the Lilith vs luz fight all I can think is how much I wish toh had a higher age rating so we could have actually gotten luz saying “talk to the glyph bitch” anyway belos being the sassy can not recognise irony if it stared him in the face asshole that he is sitting on the demon skull throne in shadowy lighting about to use the most demonic magic possible motherfucka probably thinking to himself what a considerate morally good guy he is. I FUCKING LOVE THIS SERIES OMG! I loved the first book, and this one was just as good, if not better. Opal Reyne does a fantastic job with world building and character development, I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

This one I feel like has much more smut than the last one though. Which is great. This was tons of fun. 

This one also has intimacy that doesn’t just depend on penetration. The last one had a scene or two like that, but this one is more frequent and I really appreciate that.

This book does have the pregnancy trope, HOWEVER, I feel like it was done fantastically. Very well done.
