Hiya! I know that the post where you asked for show recs was from a little bit ago haha, but if you like iZombie I would definitely recommend Veronica Mars!! Same people worked on both shows, and there are some similar vibes but it certainly has its own feel to it. The first season revolves around the protagonist trying to find out who killed her best friend, with smaller, individual mysteries each episode. I think it’s very good at doing that thing that iZombie also does; where it can be very silly and poke fun at itself a lot but still keeping you genuinely invested in the characters.

I’m also not exactly sure where your tastes run but I might also suggest Fringe! It’s another sort of mystery-of-the-week show with an overarching antagonist/problem like the others, and it has that same sort of ‘clearly magic adjacent but we’ve got a sciencey explanation for it’ thing going on that iZombie does. It’s about an FBI agent who has to solve all these strange cases with almost paranormal going-ons, with the help of a disgraced mad scientist and his son. The characters are the most fun part of it imho, like the mysteries are good but watching the silly little people grow and become friends? Is just wonderful to me <33

ALSO iZombie is what actually got me into Alias, but I think this is already kind of long and I’ll never shut up about it when you get me started lol. Anyhow sorry for this being just out of the blue, I just really like suggesting tv shows haha! 😅

#I’ve been playing so much Pokémon scarlet and don’t worry no story stuff here I’ve mostly been shiny hunting now since my living Dec is done #but so I watch austinjohnplays a lot like ever since around let’s go came out? idk for sure and idk why I just love his stuff #also like half of the poketubers I’ve run into annoy the hell out of me because I’m picky and crazy #ANYWAY Austin John came up with the isolated encounter method for shiny hunting in SV and recently tested some methods floating around where #you can choose your outbreaks which is really cool and would be good for people who don’t farm herba mystica but want encounter power 3 type #effects yknow because raids are annoying I personally don’t like them tbh #and I was isolated encounter shiny hunting and the day rolled over and I got an outbreak of the exact Pokémon I was isolated encounter #hunting so like… what if that influences it too like if you have an encounter power on and go to a certain spot and then roll the day forwar #you can force a outbreak so I tested it and sent it to him and I’m so !!!!!!! AAAAAA because Pokémon is a hf of mine and by proxy his videos #have also become a hf of mine like unless im really Really not interested I watch Eveey Single One #so the fact I could help discover something about my favorite game TO my favorite youtuber of that game IS JUST #I can’t explain how excited I feel #I hope he sees the message I sent it on Instagram #I couldn’t message his twt for some reason #fingers crossed omg im gonna spin in circles

general:

the sides work with a kind of cartoon logic (kinda like who framed Roger rabbit) which is what their shape shifting and such is, they can survive pretty much everything, dont bend to reality type thing

i also dig playing around with the idea that they just arent human, they dont need to eat, sleep, even breathe or blink if they dont wanna. They just play more human around thomas so they dont freak him out (everyone but remus at least, dude doesnt give a fuck lol) they all have their priorities regarding that kinda stuff. like logan doesnt eat or sleep almost at all (there r exceptions tho obvi (crofters)) while patton rly likes to cook and bake so why not eat the stuff you make? meanwhile remus eats literally anything he can find

they can also float if they wanna, same thing where they just dont around thomas. this came about me just imagining remus consistently floating around in the mindscape instead of walking for whatever reason? so yeah they can do that

theres a core mindscape and a ‘dark’ mindscape, that sorta works like the upside down from stranger things (as in the dark mindscape is like literally upside down and mirrors everything, like this)

everyones also got their own unique doors to their rooms. logans is very sleek and modern, pattons in more childlike and almost vintage, romans resemble castle doors while remus’ is more like a dungeons, virgils is typically angsty teenager with tons of posters and ‘keep out’ signs, and janus has tons of locks on his

design wise the core sides have straight teeth and fluffier hair while the dark sides have sharp teeth and rougher(?) hair (since changing, virgil has vampire-esque fangs)

logan:

square rimmed glasses

loves the rain

unintentionally fidgets with his clothes, always adjusting his glasses or rolling his sleeves up and down or messing with the buttons or his tie

playing more into the whole ‘sides dont have to eat thing’ he finds food kinda nasty lol, again only rly eats stuff thats very good to him (ultimate picky eater basically) patton has tried and failed many times to get logan to try and like new foods

roman was the one who got him to try crofters

watches those long ass video essays about random topics on youtube for background noise

patton:

round glasses and heart eyes

has roller blades/skates! specifically these ones that retract the wheels. good way of getting energy out (even if hes super clumsy with them)

tallest + dad bod

tons of bandages, kinda playing around with the phrase ‘broken heart’

him and janus play video games together (both of them are terrible lol)

definitely listens to dad rock/dad music

roman:

starry eyes!

crown can float on its own (same w/ remus’)

has one of these couches in his room to dramatically faint onto

him and remus dont share a room, but they have a sort of portal to each others rooms if that makes sense. a big mirror but instead of reflecting, its showing into the other room and only the twins can go thru

wants to be his own side after the split

roman and remus pierced each others ears when they were younger

virgil:

decently tall but slouches a lot which hides it (slouching hes shorter than the twins but still taller than janus) also rarely stands or sits straight at all so it kinda shocked the core sides when he showed them how tall he rly was (queue roman being mad cuz hes actually the shortest of the main four lol)

has stereotypical emo hair and still has some purple dye in it

hot topic skeleton fingerless gloves and muddy sneakers (idk why it just feels right)

tons of random bruises

draws his nails black with sharpie

listens to metal music to calm down. remus got him into a lot of numetal, screamo kinda music when virgil was still one of the others, it was one of the few times theyd hang out and virgil wasnt 100% freaked out by remus

definitely experimented with scene fashion when thomas was a teenager

janus:

speaks fluent pig latin, remus and logan are the only ones who can somewhat understand what he says (remus cuz hes been around janus so long, and logan wanting to research and understand whatever the hell janus is saying) it also has always drove virgil up the wall cuz hes never been able to get it, janus will start speaking it just to annoy him

only rly relaxes when by himself, always kinda putting on a mask with the others and thomas, regardless of how trustworthy he considers them

constantly coming up with proper plans and schemes, typically wouldnt let remus near them with a 10 foot pole (affectionately)

remus:

eyes can go all crazy, pupils can be different sizes and such (there was a cartoon that did this where the eyes would go red and have a ton of rings around the pupils like spirals kinda? i cant find a pic of what im rly visualizing rip i hope that makes sense)

is like half an inch taller than roman and will never let him live it down

enjoys all the ‘bad’ disney/pixar movies. (cars, home on the range, etc) and like unironically enjoys them. prolly started ironically to mess with roman but he genuinely find those ones the best and cant fathom why theyre disliked (totally not self-indulgent cuz some of those movies are my favorites)

comes up with random weird plans and ropes janus into them whenever possible, janus plays along best he can

somewhat wants to fuse back with roman (even if hes unsure why)

remus and virge used to make fun of roman together all the time

- Ok so I think that he listens to a little of all genres of music. Like he’s cool with everything but there’s a few songs or artists that he doesn’t fw

- He will make you make him a playlist so he can listen to it when he misses you and he’ll make you a playlist BUTT he’ll be nervous to send it to you, so when your like “bitch where’s my playlist?” he’s like “you actually wanted it”

- This boy BEGGED his parents for Spotify premium and they finally got it for him when there was like 3 months free near his birthday (he cried)

- When you find out he’s spiderman (you’d probably get mad he’s dropping dates and stuff so you confront him and he tells you) you make sure he’s always safe

- He drops by your house sometimes when he gets hurt after a fight or something and you patch him up. Now you keep a first aid kid in your room for him

- When he gets involved with the Spider Society, you get involved. He trusts you with EVERYTHING, so he tells you everything, and eventually you meet all of them.

- You get along with almost all of his friends there. After hearing what Miguel did, you don’t trust him around Miles and Miles doesn’t trust Miguel around you, so he tried to keep you as far away from him as possible.

- Gwen takes awhile to get used to you, but she eventually warms up when she realizes Miles is happy with you.

- Peter B introduces you to Mayday and you hold her and play with her and PB is like “if you don’t keep her I will”

- Hobie appreciates that you make Miles happy and therefore he doesn’t mind you at first. I think he’d be hesitant but he warms up to you (you guys become best friends)

- Pav is so sweet i don’t think anyone couldn’t immediately love him. You and him sit together and gush about eachothers s/o’s all the time and give eachother advice.

- Remember when he was texting his dad and had a bunch of typos because he was fighting a villain? He always responds to you, therefore most of his texts are illegible 😭

- He’s super smart (obviously), but will make you/his mom read over his school essays just in case.

- I think that he wouldn’t use a ton of pet names. Maybe a few sometimes, but would mostly use your name and a few nicknames hes made up (he has one that only he’s allowed to call you)

- Absolutely cannot play an instrument for shit. Gwen and Hobie have tried to teach him, and if you play an instrument you have too, but he gives up.

- He would be decent at most sports, but he’s the type of kid to only do gym for the required credits, and doesn’t go out of the way to play. If friends or you ask to play something with him, he would.

- Once you guys are together for a little, he would bring you to all the family functions. Cousins wedding? you’re there. Fourth of July celebration? He’s dragging you around to all of his family members.

- His mom would make him dress up for all of the holidays (my mom too), like at Christmas he’s in an ugly sweater and his mom is taking 10 photos of all of their matching sweaters (this is a self projection)

- Asks if he can adopt every dog and cat in the alleyways.

- He would know how to do a few origami pieces and does them in class when he’s bored and then gives them to you

- Draws on the corners and in the margins of your papers in class

- Watches CoryxKenshin and either youtube or spotify will be playing in the background of his room at all times.

- Before you guys meet eachothers parents, your screen time would be like 15+ hours from how much you guys would’ve facetimed

- Said this in the last part, but I have to bring this back. He LOVES holding your hand. He’s late to class to hold your hand down the hallways.

- He refuses to split the pole. He’s not even superstitious he just thinks it’s weird 😭

- He’s picky asf. Chicken tenders are his best friend (me too)

i do watch long ass youtube video essays too. its just harder to find a consistent stream of ones made by creators i enjoy or even tolerate because i am even more picky about youtubers than i am about most things, which is really saying something.

i read a book a day, being the most responsible can be stressful but its worth the stress if i can see the ones i care about happy.

OK SO BEFORE THE NEW EPISODES DROP, HERE ARE MY ELIMINATION PREDICTIONS!!!!

Ripper/Axel - yeah this is. A BIG one. Total Drama has a bad habit of eliminating one or both characters in a couple right after becoming official (usually the girl gets the boot too, with two exceptions). To my knowledge 2023 hasn't escaped this pattern in season 1 since Raj got eliminated right after rajbow got established, so there's a pretty big chance Ripper or Axel will get the boot in the next few episodes. Im betting on Ripper, mostly because Axel hasn't screwed up in any major way in challenges before and im assuming that pattern may continue.

Priya - come on, she won last season! She's 100% getting voted off the second her crush with Caleb gets resolved! She's not even the only athletically talented contestant remaining on her team, both Nichelle and Axel are still around so it wouldn't be a big loss to them! I'd prefer pre-merge so the contestants eliminated earlier last season get to shine a little more, but im not too picky.

MK and Julia - the cheating yeah, it's the cheating subplot. It's gonna bite them both in the ass eventually, and im assuming it'll get exposed mid season, maybe episode 8? Just gotta hope they kiss before that tho because if they dont i think half the fandom's gonna want Terry McGurrin's head on a spike

Bowie - Ngl, i think Julia could convince Wayne to vote Bowie by pointing out that he's fine with the cheating and he's lied to Raj about it. Either way, i don't know if Bowie will go far either (he's the canon runner up soooo) but Total Drama has let previous season runner-ups/winners get pretty far in later seasons (Duncan got 5th in WT somehow and Gwen got 4th in AS)

Zee - he hasn't done much this season yet, unless he gets in a ton of drama soon he's probably gonna go... Maybe pre-merge but idk

Nichelle - same thing as with Zee? The writters haven't given her much screentime... At all despite her training?? She might go in this batch of episodes but i hope not. Still a possibility tho!

With that out of the way, im gonna predict Scary Girl will either come back either for mid season or for the finale, and sit back as we wait for the new episodes to leak on youtube!

what's this new podcast, what's going on

malevolent! i didn't know this going in but it's actually a podcast based off a game of Call of Cthulhu; not that i would know much more than that, since i know precious little lovecraft and even less of the actual game

premise is that an investigator, name of arthur lester, suddenly gets possessed by some entity from a book, with no prior memory of how or why this happened to him. the entity has control of his eyes so they must work together to find out what's going on. lots of cthulhu mythos stuff going on but you don't seem to need to know any prior lore in order to get into it; as long as you're vaguely aware of how lovecraftian horrors work you're good to go

this is actually a CYOA game being played on patreon with patrons calling the shots on arthur's choices throughout the story, which is pretty much the only thing keeping me from wholeheartedly recommending it, * but that's fully a matter of personal preference. the writing and voice acting so far has been fucking stellar though, like absolutely blowing my shit out of the water, and the writers(? i don’t know how many there are) have a clear knack for weaving everything together so i'm totally onboard for the ride rn. i cannot fucking emphasize enough how good the voice acting is, there is SO MUCH dimension added to the characters on VA alone

the unique thing about this podcast is that because it's functionally an actual play podcast, there aren't any scene breaks for anything. even small things like mundane details are left in, in places where most narrative podcasts would have faded to black or cut the scene; but because we're cut off from most fourth wall breaks or hors-canon scenebuilding the actual effect is more like...watching a youtube playthrough of a video game? like it straight up kinda feels like im listening to someone play through a disco elysium-style game. kinda needs getting used to at first (at least for me) but it's oddly soothing

(*the reason being that a story feels much less coherent/consistent for me if i'm aware that ordinary schlubs like me are calling the shots, but again, if this doesn't bother you and/or you're not a picky little bitch like me i can't rec this podcast enough, actually**)

(**BEARS MENTIONING THAT FOR $10 YOU CAN ALSO BE A PATRON WHO MAKES THE CHOICES. if that is your jam GO FOR IT they deserve the $$ for such a high-production value podcast anyway)

absolutely! im rly not to picky about how ppl interact with cdta honestly lol. though it would be interesting if the timeline factored into the story, since peter would b in his late 40s and sarah in her early 50s by 2009!

i'll start with rotten roots for obscure facts, n then put cdta's cast under a read more bc it's a lot bigger lol

sarah - she's absolutely atrocious at dancing, since all she ever learned to do was line dances to only the honkiest of tonk country songs 😔

peter - the one thing he actually remembered correctly about sarah's preferences is that she did like it when he wore white. she specifically complimented him on the white suit he wore to the company mixer n that still affects his outfit choices even after the Easter Incident

officer wong - she's the only non-rich member of the peace cult/christmas rejects, and got into the organization due to her connection with law enforcement being beneficial

norman - he hasn't actually told any of the other cult members that he killed his wife/peter's mom for cheating on him, since that's not ~technically~ illegal, and thus not a valid reason for their. thing.

isabelle - she's one of those people who, despite coming from an affluent background, deeply longs to be a part of the counter culture, in her case manifesting as an infatuation with hippie aesthetics. thus her extremely long hair and floral dresses

steve - i think out of everyone in the peace cult (that showed up in the christmas special anyway), he's the most purely sadistic. everyone else can as least somewhat mental gymnastics their way into justifying their cruelty, but steve just thinks hurting ppl is a fun game.

ok cdta facts lightening round:

isaac - though he's no stranger to piercings, he doesn't have any tattoos bc he doesn't think he has the pain tolerance for it

joshua - he named the rabbit plush madeline gave him Lynnie after his mom marilyn, though you couldn't get him to admit this out loud even through torture lol

jessie - she has an orange cat named sunny

madeline - she has a tumblr account and is mutuals with delilah, though neither of them are aware of this since delilah doesn't make her status as a cael devil known online

leah - she originally made the youtube channel that would become red dragon project to make death note youtube poops

sam - he's green-red colorblind

delilah - though she has a tumblr, she's much more active on reddit (because she's constantly getting into petty arguments in the comments lol)

luce - he does have a mouth even though it's only visible sometimes, and when he does open it he has 6 rows of teeth :)

cairyx - his human form alias is caleb stone

elijah - a lot of alcohol was involved the night he got his tribal tattoo

cassandra - she gets name dropped as "editor cassie" in some of elijjah's videos, which has led to her having a little bit of a fanbase of her own
