Tumblr seems to be sliding in a downward spiral, and it feels like the start of the end of a fandoming era for me. I've been through it before; platforms are born then die, and life fandom finds a way. I'm just not looking forward to floundering for a bit, and dreading what the next hub will look like.

AO3 isn't really a place geared or meant for the same thing, and that's fine. My only fandom-related activity took place on AO3 only for a few years between my leaving LJ and joining Tumblr, and I lived ;-) But during that time, I was my own little island in fandom. Reading, leaving a few comments, not being super active. It's only when I found a community again that I was back to being really active in fandom once more.

And it's not that I actually use Tumblr to post about myself, but I do use it to read and reblog cool things - art, gifsets, science stuff, discovering new fandoms, and the like. I'm not sure where else I could find my people, with sameish purposes. The other sites I've tried didn't fill that niche in a way that suited me, in part because of how they look and work, in part because of who and what is(n't) there.

I have DW & PF accounts just to be safe, but I'm not very fond of group chats Discord-style - and without Tumblr, IDK how I'd even hear of new communities where I might pop in once in a while, loins girdled and everything. The micro-blogging platforms are not what I'm looking for either. Sure, I can follow a few DW comms and blogs; I already occasionally do and I will be more consistent about it if I must.

But one of my greatest fear is that the next platform will be phone-based, app-only, or some such BS - and that is something I just won't be able to deal with. Phones are tiny, it's uncomfortable to write anything, I don't like touch screen and much, much prefer a proper keyboard and a mouse (copy-pasting on a screen? (x_x) << it me), art/pics are too small to properly appreciate, a phone isn't comfy to hold for a long time for me, and the app system means you have no control over anything as a user… and that anything there must be Apple Approved, dick-free, blood-free, and tasteless. And I say this as someone who's pretty much uninterested in sex IRL or in my entertainment ;-) I still support and want the tits, the gore, the everything, and as long as I have the tools to curate - oh, wait. Curate things myself? That's not something that's popular these days, is it? It's not going to generate money, if I'm happy ;-)

So… I guess I'll play some more on Neocities, and see if anyone wants to have webrings again? (it would be fun and nostalgic, but not really viable on a large scale; people who haven't known those would just laugh and point and go on the InstaTok of the time).

So here is my little cane-waving rant of the day! I know things evolve and change and that in ten years I'll be rolling my eyes at my moping. It's only that I feel tired of moving from one shitty platform to another, of fearing I won't adapt (or more accurately won't want to adapt given the annoyance/benefit ratio) to whichever new place things will move in a few years. It's saying goodbye to a former home, moving, and hoping you'll make another home elsewhere kind of sniffles today!

We already know the next platform. It has been Discord for a few years now.

If you want the one after Discord, I think you're looking at waiting things out for quite a few years (or until Discord makes a major misstep as a company).

True, real time chat is not for everyone, but small discords with well-chosen channels can operate more asynchronously. Just like a lot of people who hated the look of Tumblr early on eventually capitulated, a lot of chat haters have jumped ship to Discord already.

Realistically, 90% of fandom always goes where the action is, no matter how much they claim the features make that space impossible, and 10% disappears.

We might get the 10% back on the next platform or they might leave fandom for good. There were LJ-haters who resurfaced post LJ era.

But as for where you'll find out where people are... probably AO3 author's notes.

Any specific notes you’ve got on the thought process behind each student’s new uniform changes for the THH cast? And are you planning to do some for the SDR2 and V3 cast as well?

Note: Anon is referring to these designs!Hmm kinda! There are some choices I made more deliberately than others, although not many characters go as deep as the one note I had about Taka's design. But I'll happily go through the ones that I didn't!Mondo - I initially didn't have Mondo's blazer be embroidered, but considering it's such a stick-out feature of his canon design, it felt wrong not keeping it. Additionally, Mondo is a little bit scrawnier here, for lack of a better word, and that's deliberate! These are supposed to be the students at their first year of the academy, so I wanted to make Mondo seem a little younger!

Taka - I'm not gonna reiterate here so instead here's the post where I talk about him a lil. Lol.

Celeste - Girl is absolutely fighting for her LIFE with this uniform, and for what its worth she found a pretty good balance! The dress underneath is a JSK of her own design, and kinda meant to be reminiscent of earlier EGL styles. She is supposed to look a little bit "ITA", even. I also brought back the hair ribbons from her beta design, and the butterfly hairclip takes from the pattern on her tie in canon!

Chihiro - I have a couple notes on Chihiro! For starters I honestly wanted to make her look a little bit dorkier lol. I gave her the little headband and the glasses for that reason, but the glasses were also to make her match her Dad even more! I wanted to give her a massive backpack too so she always has a spot to keep her laptop and other equipment (yes she has it on her at all times). And finally I gave her a little sweater vest with a dandelion on it, since one of her favorite gifts is the everlasting dandelion! It's supposed to be embroidered on, heehee.

Sayaka - As much as I love her, Sayaka's design isn't actually all that deep? lol. I've always had an affinity for drawing Sayaka with cute little designer hats. i honestly think she has a few of them that she can whip out to give any look a little extra panache. Not to mention the constant inclusion of TONS of pink. I also gave her the flower hairclip from one of her beta designs!

Aoi - Hina is honestly one of my favorite designs in the roster! I just really like her silhouette, idk. I always knew she had to keep the shorts, so she gets the shorts!! Her typical tracksuit is around her waist instead, her eyes are a darker blue for the sake of my sanity, and her ponytail has a kinkier shape! My favorite little detail that I'm sure nobody noticed is that the thing tying her hair together is a coil scrunchie, since they're super good for wet hair in particular! I used to use them a lot back when I used to swim!

Sakura - Honestly, I just wanted Sakura to look at ordinary as humanly possible. She gets a really normal looking uniform- little to no modifications made aside from wearing her usual shoes, the armbands, the bandages, and the striped socks that I took from one of her beta designs!

Hifumi - Hifumi didn't really change all that much either, aside from getting the orange pants to match his orange tie! I do think he painted the arrow on himself, and it looks INCREDIBLY scuffed, lol. Honestly, my main priority with hifumi was to do him some actual justice on the anatomy side, lol. I hope I did an alright job!

Makoto - Makoto also doesn't really change all that much... Really, all that got altered was the blazer and the pants, although I will note that the pants are rolled up because he ABSOLUTELY ordered the wrong size by accident.

Kyoko - Going into this, LONG before I started drawing her I knew that Kyoko needed to have pants, even if it killed me. I just always thought that it'd better suit her usual design to have pants, or at LEAST a longer skirt. It always just looked kinda off to me that she had this big long sleeved blazer and then a short pleated skirt?? Like at least allow her the luxury of like. A pencil skirt. Lol.

Byakuya - Byakuya also doesn't really undergo much change. Really, all i have to say regarding him is that hes got a tall collared button-up and that he kept his usual necktie...

And that's everyone until I sit my ass down and draw the rest! I'm sure I'll eventually get to it... Possibly.

As for the other games, currently I have no plans to do anybody beyond the thh cast. I MIGHT do sdr2 at a far, FAR later date, but I don't think V3 will ever be on the table since quite frankly, I couldn't be assed. Sorry if you were hoping for them!

I got one: rate Zelda games you've played in order of preference?

Haha so here's the thing-

I've only actually beaten one Zelda game (two if you count the spinoff Age of Calamity)😅

I'm notorious for being terrible at actually playing the games despite loving the series, most often because puzzles are not my strong suit.

So this list is gonna be focusing on my overall liking of the game and it's content, regardless of how much I've actually progressed through it (otherwise it would be a pretty boring list)

1. Skyward Sword. I love the artstyle of this game and the locations are beautiful. Skyloft is one of my favourite hub worlds in a game, the characters are all very unique and distinct, and I love exploring a land before Hyrule.

2. Breath of the Wild. I've got so many hours in this game, there's so much to do! Whilst I personally think Zelda is stronger as a linear series than open-world, I had a ton of fun exploring this open Hyrule and the Champions (new and old) are some of my favourite characters from the series. I completely got the wrong end of the stick as to what the plot was going into it, so it was fun finding out the real plot.

3. Phantom Hourglass, for one reason: Linebeck. He's one of the most well-written and distinct characters in Zelda (and probably my overall favourite), I love his progression from selfish coward to a hero in his own right. And that final boss fight omfg-

4. A Link Between Worlds. Lorule is a super interesting concept to me, and whilst I didn't play ALttP I'm aware of how this game continues on from it. I love this version of Hyrule's overworld, and it's always neat seeing the more hostile Zora.

5. Minish Cap, mainly because I love the Minish as a race and Vaati as a villain. The tiny world is super fun to explore, and I love seeing how the different groups of Minish live.

6. Spirit Tracks. For a very simple reason: I'm a railfan. I'm absolutely terrible at this game but I love the introduction of trains, the completely new Hyrule, and a unique villain is always a plus! I love Zelda's more (physically) active role in the story, and I'm a big fan of Byrne as a character.

7. Majora's Mask. I did atrociously trying to get through this game too, but I absolutely love its premise. Termina is a very unique world and despite a lot of the character models being recycled, still feels completely independent from Hyrule. Skull Kid is one of my favourite Zelda characters, and the heavy emphasis on death and loss makes it a very unique game

8. The Wind Waker. I initially thought this game was kind of overrated ngl (and I still think it overshadows games that deserve more praise), but I had fun with it. The concept is very unique, and whilst I found the sailing a bit boring at times I loved exploring the islands.

9. Tears of the Kingdom. I... set myself up for disappointment with this one. That's not to say it's a bad game! I've had fun with it for sure, but there was a lot of wasted potential imo. Whilst I love the unique styles of each dungeon (and the respective bosses), they were infuriating to get through because it's the same shit every time. Use Sage ability to open five locks, rinse and fucking repeat. Same reason I didn't enjoy the Divine Beasts. The exploration in the open-world Zelda games is phenomenal, but it comes at the detriment of story and dungeons. (Not to mention it's sort of a soft reboot and I'm... not really a fan of those).

10. Ocarina of Time. This one is so low basically by default (and because I'm kinda tired of hearing about it so much). It's a good game, don't get me wrong. But it's weird the timeline split came from this one and not.. idk, the game with an actual canon game over (Minish Cap)?? I love the Kokiri as a concept and really wish they'd returned, and the group of sages introduced in this game are probably my favourite.

And I don't really know where to rank it as it's a spin-off, but I had a huge amount of fun with Age of Calamity. A significant improvement over the original Hyrule Warriors imo.

i tried to make him have the design as an orange tabby and a calico mix as good as i could get him

this was my first time drawing a octonauts character and background

this was also my first attempt at making the octonauts octo-alert logo on the door:

I've got headcannons and i wanna share em

(i know my grammar is horrible hush)

-kwazii and calico jack are part of a family of pirates from japan so kwazii didn't know any English calico jack learned way before him

-kwazii always wanted to know what is was like to be a stowaway and that's how kwazii became an octonaut he stumbled into a box on land after a few minutes it was picked up and put into the launch bay dashi went down to help tweak and was the first to discover kwazii after his head popped out of the crate dashi helped get him out and alerted captain barnacles who brought him to the sick bay to make sure he wasn't hurt after that they went back on land and attempted to let kwazii return home but the feline just wouldn't budge instead they let him stay with them how he truly became an octonaut was because he saved a baby snail from getting eaten

-barnacles was the one who taught him English they became good friends because of it

-kwazii developed a crush on barnacles(dont judge me i dont judge you for your ships) so the little box instead of the ship in a bottle on the shelf is little pictures of barnacles with hearts on them there also seems to be the shade of black lipstick kiss marks on certain ones

-peso, dashi, and kwazii developed a chaotic sibling energy

-kwazii was shy at first when he became an octonaut now he's to crazy

-kwazii likes wearing eyeliner and sometimes lipstick(the shade black of course) he helps dashi apply her makeup too

-kwazii does not wear male clothes despite being transgender he would take his oversized pink sweater with a star on it, very short navy blue shorts, and black knee-high stockings any day he does change into a diver like suit when they go on missions outside of the octopod

-he got top surgery but wants to keep the ability to have children

-his pronouns are he/they but he prefers to be referred to as a he no one knows why

-he found a random scale nobody knows what it came from but its making kwazii feel like he wants to jump into the water without a helmet so he locked it in a small lock box in his chest he hid the key in his scratching post

-kwazii has a big soft spot for babies and children and has dreamed of having his own some day

-kwazii sees professor inkling as a father figure as his father died after a run in with other pirates costing in both his parents' deaths

-calico jack's crew told him to take kwazii and run while they were gonna hold them off he hopes they're still out there(they are they'll reunite soon)

-kwazii has an older brother and and and older sister his sister is sadly deceased but his bother is still alive with his grandpa's crew still an the lookout for him and kwazii his name is Arron

-kwazii has adhd and plays with anything that seems fun to him shellington has had to lock away his test tubes and experiments because of this

-kwazii wears an eyepatch to cover his blind eye

-he can be a little menace sometimes

-when kwazii first joined the octonauts tunip and the veggimals have had to be kept away from him after he tried to eat them a few times he knows now he is not allowed to eat them

"all the little flowers" is, in fact, an MSR AU based on this prompt i found on Pinterest:

it's like.... halfway written at this point? but anyway yeah it's a alternate first meeting and I'm changing a few other things from canon (like some details about what happened to Samantha).

the basic premise is: Mulder, walking to the graveyard where his sister is buried, gets into the habit of sneaking a few flowers from the garden at this one house with a lot of them; turns out, this is Scully's mom's house, and Scully catches him one time when she comes to visit and insists on walking with him (a la the prompt). she's initially like "I bet you're going to see a girl" and he's like "well that's not *untrue*" and it's really awkward when he finally explains but Scully (one semester short of finishing med school) is more understanding than he expects and they banter and get to know each other a little bit and she does end up tagging along to the graveyard and there's a bit of a Moment(TM) at some point, Mulder half-teasingly suggests she joins the FBI (to which she's all "would you believe I've actually been considering that?" and he's like "I believe a lot of things you'd be surprised about") so on, so forth, vaguely hinting at attraction, you get the idea.

I'm not totally sure how I'm gonna end it lol or if I'm gonna completely start over from scratch and shift the style a bit, but I like what I have so far quite a bit!!!

as for Heaven Is On Fire, it's a random, fairly brief fic based on a prompt fic I saw from @leiascully, where instead of the canon events of Ascension, Mulder gets there in time to save Scully from being abducted. I love fix-it canon divergences and that was a concept I'd never seen or really thought of before but once I considered it I really wanted to write it??

so I'm writing my own little "5 headcanons" style fic, except it's probably gonna go beyond just 5 lol. idk just something about both of them so shaken up and clinging to each other in the aftermath of what would have been one of the worst things in their life... the uh, the most recent line as it stands right now might interest you:

Time to give my girls some weapons in my Winx Reboot! Because it's great!

So!

Magixae learning to use weapons isn't uncommon. Harmonix/Discordix actually include weapons, as those forms are meant specifically for combat!

However, most of the gang starts learning to use weapons in Season 2, thanks to Bloom being like "Hey. I've been through some shit where my Magic went fucky. It might be a good idea to learn a backup way to fight!". Which leads to this.

Riven actually helps a lot because he sees the girls' fighting styles and can guess what their Harmonix/Discordix weapons will be even before they learn that form lmao.

Anyway! Onto discussing the weapons!

Bloom:

While she also learns to use a sword and has a "I'll defeat them with the power of friendship and also this gun I found" moment, Bloom's weapon is this pair of like. Knuckledusters/claws. Her combat style is already very "fists of flame" so the knuckledusters help. The claws are because 1.) Blades are useful and 2.) Dragon aesthetic gives me serotonin.

Stella:

Predictably, she likes staff weapons. Initially she uses the Ring of Solaria as her weapon, but after earning Enchantix she gives it to Chimera and uses more mundane staff weapons. Eventually her Harmonix and Discordix forms will have the other two staff weapons with the respective Sun and Moon themes.

Musa:

So I was stuck on Musa for a bit but I was reminded that Sonic Underground exists! So Musa's weapon is a keyboard laser gun. The keyboard part can play into her general spellcasting, and various buttons on the thing can change the mode of what she shoots. Energy beams set to harm or stun, plus more mundane ammo.

Tecna:

Her weapons are something between a katar and a chakram. I refer to it as the latter though. Anyway. It's vaguely based of how she uses her Digital Triangle spell!

Flora:

Look. Vine whip. It's a classic and I'm sticking to it!

Aisha:

Though she is skilled with a few weapons, including things more suited to water like tridents and harpoons. However, in all her athletic adventures before joining the group, she had taken up archery. It was one of her favorites.

Daphne:

Gee Daphne. How come your writer lets you have two swords?

Jokes aside, I did give her dual swords! And Daphne is also the first Magixae we see using weapons! Though it is in a flashback. Also yes her swords are reminiscent of MKR.

Diaspro:

Dual axes! Honestly the mental image of this is beautiful and I love it so much. Just going full "the hills are alive but bitch you ain't!" On the battlefield.

Darcy:

Fun fact: tvtropes refers to this weapon as "razor floss" which is hilarious! But yeah it's a bunch of strings/wires that can wrap or slice her target.

(Yes I know Helia has this weapon but 1.) Idk if I'm keeping him as a combatant and 2.) Why does everyone have to have individual weapons??)

Icy:

A scythe! Combined with her cloak it really does give her a Grim Reaper vibe doesn't it?

Chimera:

Like Stella, she uses staff weapons. In part thanks to using the Ring of Solaria. However she eventually gets her own staff.

Roxy:

While I debated about giving the baby a gun, I really wanted her to have a comically large hammer.

3. How would you describe your writing style?

i think it's very emotions-centered. tbh i'm not good at evaluating my own writing in positive terms. but i tend to struggle with rooting myself in a setting and i don't think about the physical details that deeply unless it feels relevant for conveying what the character is experiencing on an emotional level.

other things...i tend to write in present tense. it delivers that immediacy that i think suits my strengths. as i've gotten older and been writing longer, i've tried to move towards understating things and allowing more interpretation of what i intended (a direct contrast to how i write for work where i still have all my auditor habits of explaining every detail).

5. What’s a tag you never want to use for your works even when it applies?

any sexual tags, even though they might be very relevant. idk why it makes me feel so awkward when, you know, i actually wrote what i'm describing in the tags, but it just makes me want to crawl into a hole.

6. What’s your ratio for rating your works?

i don't think i have a strict one? like, if we're talking explicit material in particular, it needs to be one of the actual points of the fic existing rather than just one element. or it needs to be in combination with a lot of other stuff. it's very much a gut feeling for me in reality.

7. Your favourite ao3 tag.

i don't really have one other than the fandom and ship tags i track for new fics. like, maybe the angst tag? but even then, that's not enough to get me to click on a fic.

14. Write and share the first sentence of a new fic. Just that.

Hey Professor Peach, really like your art, your style, and helpful knowledge on Pokemon. I've been thinking of getting into illustrating my own escapades and life with my Pokemon, so I was wondering what tools/equipment/programs you use and any helpful tips?

I did a recent post about how to get going, but equipment wise I’m actually really acclimatised to the iPad Pro and pen they come with. I use Procreate, a free and very flexible bit of software. I use to use photoshop and a big cintiq but it just didn’t suit me to be at a desk. If you like to doodle, pen and paper neve goes wrong! I wish I had good types of pens and pencils to suggest but I usually scribble on any cheap paper and use probably...a half dead biro I found behind the desk? Idk, whatever I can get my hands on haha.

My biggest aid in this whole blog and work? Refrences, research and good old google. Nothing beats a little forethought before you get going, even if it’s just one colour in mind that you want in it, it’s a starting point as good as any. Some folks work different but I like a good idea sketch, I keep sheets of thumbnails, ideas, and general stuff that comes to mind. Lots of scribbles and doodles, and then sometimes they get used:

Haphazard as it is, this is a lovely way to just let your mind wander, play with shapes and ideas. Not everyone works this way, my old teachers would call me chaotic, so find what’s right for you. If you worry you won’t know what to make, inspiration comes in waves, if you get a block, just do something you enjoy. It’ll come back in its own time, pushing it only makes things worse.

Remember there’s no right answer in art. You love what you love, and you must love what you create.

omg tysm !!! <3 idk why but i feel. very warm reading your ask afdhghfh under the cut bc y’all know i ramble!

i don’t know if i have any advice for upcoming writers bc, although this blog was created spontaneously in 2020 when i hadn’t written a word in almost a year, i’ve been writing basically my whole life. i don’t really know what to say to someone who’s just starting to write other than read real books as much as you can and try out as many writing styles as you wish to.

when it comes to a blog, i would say just go easy for a while. steer away from your activity tab if you tend to feel down when you don’t get lots of interaction, which generally doesn’t happen when you first start posting writing. having a masterlist is optional, but i do think posting one, even if it’s empty and it’s just a title and a gif, and tagging it properly helps people find you in the tags before you’ve even posted anything. it’s also useful just to have some place to gather your links in.

motivation’s very tricky when you first start a story, it comes and goes and there’s no way to get a story done unless you soldier through any doubts. personally, i find planning out stories very useful if you’re aiming to write something very plot-based and on the longer side. i personally don’t do well with writing aimlessly unless it’s a drabble and, as y’all can tell already lmao, i write pretty long oneshots, so i need a detailed plan. i’d recommend doing that for your first few stories just so that you don’t feel lost and possibly uninspired to keep going bc you don’t really know where you’re going. i've also found that planning a story often gives me ideas for other ones and other scenes i’m interested in writing elsewhere, so that’s neat too.

another tip that might not suit everyone, but you can always ask if someone’s down to read your writing. personally, i don’t mind being asked to read someone’s fic even if i don’t follow them or if i’m not friends with them!

Dark brunette with a red or auburn undertone that seriously looks like it stayed from my red hair phase but that was 2009 and there is no way I could have hair from 2009 still on my head. The length is insane, last time I measured the longest was 36 inches. My hair texture is somewhere around 2b and 2c I tend to throw my hair in a bun or just wear it down honestly.

Oof, complicated question for someone like me. I actually do have a lot of...dandy style clothes and that tends to be how I lean. Scariest nightmare you’ve ever had?

I truly have not had a nightmare in a very long time. They're is one that sticks out to me a little bit is not quite a nightmare it's just weird.

So in my early youth every year before the school year started my parents would take me and my sister to a department store and kind of just let us have at it, and like choose two outfits a piece before the school year. This dream is basically us doing exactly that. I'm like 10 and my sister is 8.

So me and my sister are both kind of off on our own; in the different sections where clothing of our style/size is and my parents are just kind of watching us from afar. At one point I find my dad to like ask him about whatever article of clothing I'm holding in my hands. However, I get very distracted by the fact that my dad is wearing what looks to be the Pink Panther diamond on his finger. Because none of the family really watched The Pink Panther much less would have that sort of replica ring on their finger.

However your girl was 10 years old so she just kind of brushed it off and went on about shopping. totally out of order, i just wanted to write this for myself and see what I was listening to. leggo.

1. KARD - Rumor

I love the concept of a mixed group, i love that mv, love the moves. all in all - a bop. and they were releasing hit after hit this year, like wow, that was a super consistent success. and also one of the boy's voice is deeper than my social anxiety issues. props for them, i love KARD.

2. WINNER - Fool

give me a moment to wipe my eyes, please. ok, here we go. this song was actually the one that brought me into K-pop this year. I was always aware of the genre and I've listened to some suju and 2NE1 before, but I was never a die hard fan, I was never into it as much as I am now. and my first step in this direction was this song. gosh, it is so, so good. I've understood exactly one word of all the lyrics in this song and nevertheless I've bawled my eyes out every time I've listened to it in the night, alone, dreaming. idk what was the story of WINNER when there were 5 members, and I do not care, honestly, because those men have obviously hit the jackpot this year, getting all the love and fame they could with such high quality hits, and that one member that got away is probably cursing himself all the way to hell right now.

fool is a ballade that stays with you for long. the simplicity of the accompaniment, the light sound, the heartfelt voices and the sincerity of it all makes it unforgettable. a true winner for me.

3. GOT7 - Never Ever

oh god, I thought this song is 100 years old and is a classics of k-pop, but it happened to be released in 2017, so strange. not the best song of got7 /gif of bambam niga hamyeoning in the background/, but it's decent. maybe 'you are' is overall better, but this one has the vibe of that iconic song that everyone knows, so I put it in here. also i've listened to it lots so.

4. SISTAR - Lonely

a surprisingly good one, soyou and bora's vocal are stunning. I've listened to it a lot this year, and only now I've realised that they've disbanded. that's what's really sad indeed. starship loosing girls bands like wigs. thank god for monsta x.

5. Seventeen - Clap

better than dramarama 100%, I'm being objective here. it's has a clever mv, smart choreo (hoshi is literally a god and proves it every freaking time, he's impossible) and a nice instrumentation. also that break in the live ver. with joshua in front gives me chills.

6. BtoB - Movie

because HOW CAN YOU NOT?!! ilhoon as the joker? minhyuk as james bond?! DO YOU DIE LIKE I DO?! this song is totally my style. funny, funky, great vocals - that's btob for you. in my opinion songs like this one suit them the most. it is like a /movie lol/ ray of sunshine, it gives me the most pleasant feels. it may be not very mainstream, no heavy edm/dubstep or over-the-top choreo, but it certainly found it's listeners. I adore this song. peniel's rap was a killer, wow, fresh and clean indeed, and let's not forget about that iconic music show performance where they all were cosplaying various characters, oh dear, only btob can pull that off.

7. BewhY - Wright Brothers ft. C Jamm

or any other track from the blind star album. see, this is not even k-pop, this is korean gospel rap, for god's sake, and still BewhY kills the game with his hits. yes, that man is powerful like that. bobby, zico, mino, they are all idols now, but BewhY would never be one of them. he is one of a kind, honestly. he has his own style, his flow is effortless and unique, and those silences, did you feel them? his significant silences say more than half of the idol rappers' parts would ever say. the world has been blessed by this album, strong power thank you hallelujah.

8. Monsta X - Beautiful

okay, now listen. maybe it is not an ultimate masterpiece or smth but this was the song that made monsta x more popular in the industry and I'm very grateful for that. but I am still struck by that fact that they only won their first show with dramarama. like honestly? where the fuck was everyone when 'hero' was in promotion? the l e g e n d a r y, absolutely terrific mv for the 'all in'? and literally no one giving a single fuck about 'stuck' when this song is actually a blessing sent from heavens? and my baby hyper man jooheon released his 'rhythm' in early 2017 and no one cared? DID YOU SLEEP WELL, KOREA?!

also the boys slayed this song, btw.

9. EXO - The Eve

damn son, this one is hella sensual. out of all EXO songs that were released this year this one got me the most. ko ko bop is a bop indeed, but the eve has that vibe that pleases me more. also the vocals. I'd probably kill for d.o.'s voice. and that choreo. kai and sehun have no mercy. a great song. special mention for the whole 'the war' album though. I lived.

10. Super Junior - Black Suit

this song is so stylish, classy, has such a chic vibe that you can't just forget it. every time I hear it I smile, dance and lyp-sinc, and I do it literally anywhere, I just can't help myself. this song gives me energy and I have a few memories that I've made bc of this song that I'm very fond of. it is kinda in the same league as BtoB's 'movie', but is more on the dramatique and chic side. the legends and the true kings of k-pop.

11. NCT127 - Cherry Bomb

THAT. MOVE. don't lie, you know what I'm talking about. what a legendary choreo, mother father, holy moly. I am in love with nct because imho thy have the most unique style from all the k-pop groups I know. they are fresh, young and totally wild. their charisma is a weapon of mass destruction. and pls don't get me started on mark. you know, the one that has a 'long ass ride' through all the NCT units and thinks of himself as of a long lost EXO member.

so this song is a hit, it's catchy as hell, it has a great beat, great rap parts, killer hook, bomb choreo, smart mv. it was made for success.

12. BtoB - Missing you

yes, I'm heavily multifandom, but how on the earth, tell me, can you not stan a group where you have, aside of other members, one of the most outstanding vocal line in k-pop nowadays (hyunsik is great at making songs and his voice is great, changsub's falcetto is giving me chills and sungjae is so talented it's unfair to us mere mortals, but eunkwang is... well. silver light. let it shine forever). I think that maybe this song will be forgotten by most people with time, but when btob sing it live it really touches you deeply, and the lyrics are great. I've cried, yes. and also btob actually winning things that they deserve with a ballade is giving me a strong sense of justice existing in this world.

13. VIXX - Shangri-la

did you fucking see this aesthetic masterpiece? if yes, than no words are needed, you've heard and seen it yourself. the song is nearing perfection, the synthesis of minimalistic electronic sound effects and unique asian flavours is majestic, not to mention that they've finally had a DECENT DROP GOD SAVE ME, I've been waiting for a decent drop in vixx's songs since forever. and the performance of this song on the last day of 2017 k.o.ed me completely. a total must-see.

14. G-DRAGON - Untitled, 2014

I need to have another moment here. well, this song is something fragile, delicate, and something so vulnerable, even thinking of it makes it hard to swallow. I've cried to it too. it feels like a confession, not romantic, but personal. the vocals are stunning, you don't always need to be a terrific singer to impress people with your voice. sometimes it's about the colours of the tembre and the way you use it, your imagination. G-DRAGON has it all and more. this song, people, is what is called 'art'.

15. Heize ft. Shin Yong Jae - You, Clouds, Rain

I love heize's style, and the combination of those voices was a win. such a great song honestly.

16. Red Velvet - Rookie
