Episode seven - wet lettuce

Jack Dawkins x fem reader.

Lying in your bed you think of the moment that had been on your mind for almost a week. In fact there were many moments you kept recalling. Stolen moments between you and Jack. You thought on the way he made your body feel. The tingling that would rush from your lips to your toes. The way the heat from his fingers would spread along your skin whenever he touched you.

With a grin you stood up from the bed and moved slowly across the room to your wash bowl pouring a small amount of water into it. Bending forward to splash your face your chest pinged with pain. Dizziness twisted your eyesight.

"No." You whispered feeling behind you for a chair. You sat down and tried to calm yourself.

"Sister, have you heard- what is it?" Fanny ran over to you.

"It's alright, I got up too fast, I'm okay sister." You say petting her hand.

"No, you need a doctor to check you again." She protests, "what about that young doctor? The cute one? Dawkins?"

"No honestly. It's nothing, please do not panic yourself." You say.

"panic? I never stop worrying about you." Fanny admits placing her head on your shoulder. You brush the back of her hand with yours.

"Are you coming into town with me?" She asks.

"hmmm, I may pop to the hospital, I have been talking to the head nurse about a ladies clinic." You say. Fanny gives you a knowing look.

"have you forgiven our sister yet?" Fanny asks.

"It's more complicated than that." You reply, "come along I need to dress."

The hard wooden shelves pressed into your back as you Jack kissed you. His hands ran over your corseted body.

"We have to stop." You say pulling away slightly. "Yes, of course." He pants.

"They will suspect." You whisper.

"Mhmm." He nods, nugding his nose to yours.

"Later."

"later" he brings his lips back to yours and kisses you as if he may never get to do so again. The cupboard door opens revealing Hetty and the two of you spring apart.

"If you've finished looking for bandages, they've vanished, along with stethoscopes and scalpels. And there's a patient needing attention."

Jack clears his throat as you look through the cloths on the shelf.

Shaking her head Hetty walks away.

"I have to go anyway, Fanny is waiting for me." You say taking his hand.

"I hate it when you leave." He admits, pressing a soft kiss to your knuckles.

A sudden pang of guilt bubbled inside you.

"Jack, maybe you should not become so attached to me." You say Jack shakes his head.

"I just mean, that I may...I...my mother may send me back to....I just...I should go."

"y/n you have unnerved me more than any other woman, you fill me with both joy and dread." He admits not letting you go.

"Same." You whisper.

"Dammit." He lets you slip from his grasp and you dart away.

Belle followed Jack into the back courtyard, both wanting fresh air. There is clearly something on Belle's mind as she leans on the stairs railings.

"Have you known many women in the past?" She asks abruptly.

" Why, yes, I have known many women. I see women every day." Jack laughs.

" No, I mean in a physical way." She corrects him.

"Yes."

" No, I mean, have you had congress with another woman? I'm not judging. What happened in the past is your business. But have you?" She asks.

" Had congress? Do you mean sеx?" Jack clarified, surprised at her forwardness.

"Yes, I suppose so."

"Well, then, yes, many times. I was a sailor And also, I am twenty eight." He turned to face her fully.

"Right. So, my sister is just another one of many, is she?"

Jack finally understands her line of questioning, "Well, no. 'Cause we haven't had congress." He states.

" Fine."

" No, fine. I just needed to be clear if she was wasting her time, and... Um... Fine, I see that she is." Belle turns away from him.

" Hang on. What happened to the not judging part?" He calls after her.

"Who's judging? I'm not judging," she takes a step closer to him, "But you do need to know that it will not happen unless y/n is married." She flattens her lips together .

"Yeah, that's not very likely then, is it?" Jack delfates himself.

"Why? Is y/n not worthy of congress?"

"The world will never allow us to marry, Belle. She is the Governor's eldest daughter." She sees the hurt in his eyes.

"You misjudge my family. My mother is your greatest supporter. She fought for you to get this job. She'll support it, if y/n is not to be one of many." Belle says.

Jack thinks for a moment, then nods to her.

"Ahh lady Belle, would you like to come inside?" Sneed had popped his head around the door.

"Yes, thank you Doctor." She follows him back inside.

Belle walked into the dining room with you finding your mother pouring over papers.

"We went to the hospital this morning." Belle announced.

"We're considering setting up a clinic for women." You add.

"Sterling idea, darling." Lady Jane replied without looking up.

" That surgeon there is quite brilliant." You say.

"You clearly can't be talking about the professor. But Rainsford Sneed seems up to the task." Your mother agrees.

" No, the other one," Belle says.

"Jack Dawkins." You say his name and it feels sweet on your tongue.

" Jack Dawkins. Well, he didn't exactly cover himself in glory at the dinner." Your mother raises an eyebrow at you both.

" Perhaps we should invite him again. He seemed very apologetic and quite personable." Belle argues.

"Is this the same personable man who challenged another guest to a fist fight over the soup, and then followed it up with a duel?" Lady Jane asked.

" I think he's much changed." You add. The Governor passes you.

" Anything that I should..."

"No." Lady Jane cuts him off.

"Right. Your youngest daughter wants us to organise an intimate dinner for this chap from the Bank of Great Britain."

"Can't wait." Belle moans dragging you away.

"Yes, well, he does come with the most impeccable credentials. An Eton man. Not a bad word to be said about him. And the Bank certainly wouldn't entrust a shipment of gold back to London to a man of lesser quality. And if he's prepared to marry our Fanny, then all to the good?" Your father chuckled.

" Mmm. Then it would seem all our daughters have their eyes cast on personable men. I need to go out. Do try to stay out of trouble dear." She pats her husband on the belly as she walks out.

Lady Jane makes little time getting to the hospital where she seeks out Jack. Finding him on the ward explaining how to treat an intestinal worm.

"Milady." He says in quiet shock.

Lady Jane insists on him accompanying her to the office where she shuts the door. Jack sits down, feeling like a small boy being told off.

"My daughter is greatly taken by your surgical skills, Dr. Dawkins." She begins.

" Well, she's very gifted herself, in many ways." He replies, " She's very interested in all things here the workings and the anatomical."

" So I'm beginning to understand. I invested a great deal of energy and time to place you here." She sits in the chair beside him.

" And I'm enormously grateful, ma'am."

" And I can see that you're a gifted surgeon and an asset to this hospital and town. And I will support you in that role." She continues.

"Thank you again, milady."

"It is, however, an entirely different matter of someone of your station and background to spend time with my eldest daughter, whose bloodline goes back to the Conqueror. At the risk of sounding blunt, we are pursuing a suitable partner for y/n in marriage, Doctor. She is past her marrying age so we must be careful. It's not about mindless infatuation. Am I making myself clear?" She explains.

"You are beginning to." Jack drops his shoulders.

" Good. Lady y/n will stay away from the hospital and she will marry someone of status and wealth, not a glorified butcher. Doctor Sneed will make the decision on Lady Belle, as his promised." She informed him

"And what if she doesn't agree with this view?" Jack tries once more.

" You will not speak a word of this to my daughter or your time here will be finished, do you understand?" Her words cuts through him.

"So, I have no say in this? What am I expected to do when she turns up here at the hospital?" He asks, panic growing in his voice.

"Perhaps follow the same advice you gave to the intestinal worm and encourage her to leave." Lady Jane stood and left without another word. Jack could not move, his body froze in the chair. He knew this would end eventually, you had said it yourself but to have it ripped from him this way felt particularly cruel.

The rest of his day felt unreal like he was living someone else's life. When finally focus came back to him as you walked into the theatre. Jack's mind raced with too many thoughts. The words of your mother danced at the front whilst his heart longed to pull you close to him.

"Belle is helping Rainsford, I thought perhaps I could see what this is all about, I've become quite intrigued recently." You say tying the apron around your waist., "What are we doing?" You ask.

Jack refuses to look at you, keeping his eyes on the work in front of him.

"Appendectomy." Hetty explained .

" I read that if you use a reverse cut-"

" I have it, thanks." He cuts you off, "I don't need your help with this one." His words are sharp.

" Perhaps I ca-"

"I really don't have time to bother with you today." He bites at you.

"Oh, I didn't realise I was a bother I was just trying to-"

"Are you done trying to prove that you're far superior to everybody in this room or may I be allowed to continue with this surgery?" He snaps

" What's gotten into you?" You whisper across the table.

" Hetty, please show the Governor's daughter out, I prefer to work alone today, thank you." Jack turns his eyes away from you once more and you feel your heart breaking. You leave to the sniggers of the men gathered in the stands.

"Sod off, the bloody lot of you! Go on!" He shouts at the men, trying to keep his mind on the basic operation.

"What just happened in there?" You ask

When. He was done he stumbled on you outside the back door. You had been sat on the steps and jumped up from your place when you heard him.

"Nothing." He Huff's.

" No, that wasn't nothing. You just tried to humiliate me in front of people." You try to stop the quiver of your lip.

"Then you are getting a good sense of how my lot feel when your lot deign speak to us." He narrows his eyes on you.

"I shouldn't have to apologise for my station any more than you should for yours." You retort.

" My station? That matters, does it?" He asks.

" What happened to me unnerving you?" You hope reminding him of his words will bring him back to you

"That's the problem, isn't it?" There is a break in his voice. "This is all far too complicated and I have simply realised that I am more comfortable unattached, with nothing to tie me down or distract me from my work."

" Fine. Fine. Fine." You say each time your voice lowering, "Leaves me free for a fuller relationship with someone less morally loose." You do not try to hide the tear that drips from you eye as you circle him to leave. Jack watches you, holding back his own emotions. He longs to pull you back to him, to hold you in his arms and comfort you.

As you charge through the halls you once again feel that familiar sting in your chest. Your heart raced faster with each beat.

"y/n, sister?" Belle's hands grab your elbow.

"Rainsford, help!" She calls out.

"Lady y/n, please come through let me check you." Sneed spoke coming into your blurred vision.

"No, no just take me home. Please." You lean into him. Sneed looks back at Belle who rushed out to ready a carriage. As you climb in you look back at Sneed.

"Thank you Doctor. I will be well, you may return to your duties." You say, "you two, sister, thank you both for your help but I am quite well now."

The carriage pulls away.

"I don't understand she only just arrived." Belle sighs.

"I would speak to your mother, she spoke with me earlier today, about the both of you and your dealings here. She said I had last say on your whereabouts, but your sister, she isn't to be here at all."

Belle huffed.

When you reached Government house your constitution had regained itself and you were able to walk unaided into the house.

"Father, I wish to speak to you." You say pulling him away from his guests and your sister. He leads you to his office.

"Father, I am unmarried and I wish to have my dowry." You state.

"Oh well, umm, my dear I don't...maybe we should wait-"

"No father, I have absolutely no intention of marrying. I wish to leave, return to England, therefore I will need my own income. So my dowry I believe will do me fine."

Dressed in your finest blue silk dress, hair pulled into an intricate design and a tiara placed on your head. You make your way down to the parlour where Mr Twist the Banker from England is chatting with your father, Gaines and Sneed. You hear the front door open and close and then Mr Twist darted across the room.

"Dodger?" He grabs Jack's hand in his, "Well, tickle my cheeks with a goose's feather!" They greeted each other like old friends and you felt a pang of sadness at not knowing him better. The gathered crowd are called to the dining table and to add to your sadness Jack is once again placed across from you. As dinner wears on you stay silent, speaking only when directly addressed.

"But I'm intrigued as to how a man of your background, Mr. Twist, met a man of his." Gaines asked looking between the round man and the thin.

Oliver made no attempt to answer the question turning instead to your mother, "Please, may I have some more?" He asks pointing to his plate.

"But of course. Your third helping." Lady Jane agrees.

"I love the crunch of crackling. The whiz and pop in one's mouth." He laughs, turning his eyes to Jack, "Well, this is such an interesting story going back many years. Eh, Dodger?" He starts.

" I doubt they really want to hear about that." He answers his old friend. There is a tension in him that you don't miss.

" Probably not. Please don't let us stop you." Belle smirks.

"I'm most interested." Gaines encourages.

"Well, in a time of great personal turmoil and peril, this man, but a boy then, took me in, sheltered me, saved my very life." As Oliver speaks your breaths become hard, strained against your lungs. Jack notices, his eyes flicked back and forth between you and Oliver.

"But why do you call him "Dodger"?" Sneed asks.

"It's because he dodges all responsibility, I wonder? Just a jest." Belle laughs.

"I was just very quick." Jack replies. You gasp unable to catch your breath, your hand clutched at your body.

"Oh, dear. Not again, darling. One of you medics, do something! Dear." Your father said , though his voice felt miles away. Jack jumped up immediately coming to your side.

"Are you alright?" He asks. With the little strength you had you shrug him away, "Don't touch me." You hiss at him.

"With your permission, milady." Sneed holds your elbow and helps you stand, guiding you up stairs. Jack follows you with his eyes.

When he has you settled in your bed, Sneed returns to the dinner taking his place. Jack leans across to him.

"Is Lady y/n all right?" He asks

"Yes, my daughter, is she...?" The Governor joined in.

"She will be fine." Sneed assures you all, he leans a little closer to the governor, "Women's problems, I fear."

" Right, yeah. Of course."

Your mother speaks up, " I'm sure she'll be fine."

"I apologise. But I have to speak a truth I can no longer hold inside!" Oliver's eyes fall onto Jack and Jack stiffens. Preparing himself for everything to fall apart. "It's only been a day or so, but I must speak the truth." Oliver rounds the table and stops beside Fanny's chair. He lowers himself to one knee and she jumps up.

"Yes! A hundred times, yes!"

" I haven't asked yet." He chuckles.

"Sorry, yes, go ahead." At that exact moment an explosion echoes through the room.

"What is that?"

"We're under attack. It's coming from the town." Gaines says looking out of the window

" Is it a rebellion?" The governor asks.

" Quite possibly, sir. Or the French! Gentlemen, protect your lady folk. Troops, with me. Hurry!" Gaines runs from the house with his soldiers in tow.

"Come, Mr. Sneed." The governor called back. You hear the commotion but could not pull yourself up to see. Tears fell from your eyes as you once more used Belle's stethoscope to listen to your irregular heartbeat.

Time passes but you hardly feel it as you lay somewhere between sadness and pain. Your door opens swiftly and Jack, no longer wearing his dress coat dives into the room.

"I assume you had something to do with this commotion." You say sitting yourself up a little, " Go away, or I will scream the place down."

" Come away with me tonight." He pants.

" I beg your pardon? Have you gone completely mad?" You say.

" Yes. I am completely mad. I need you." Jack comes closer to you and see the panic in his eyes.

" Yesterday, you seemed to think otherwise."

" Yesterday, I spoke with your mother and she told me that I'd ruin your life and then threatened to ruin mine." He explained sitting beside you and taking your hand.

" Oh and you still want to run away with me?" A small hope growing inside you.

" More than anything. Y/n, when I wake up in the mornings, all I can think of is you. I close my eyes at night, and there you are. Y/n, I cannot fashion a life without you in it." He speaks with tears brimming his eyes.

" I don't know what that means." He replies.

"Are you telling me you love me, Jack Dawkins?" You ask with a small laugh

'You do. You just said it in your own words." You smile for first time since yesterday.

"If you even feel half the way I do about you-"

"I don't."

"You don't?" He asks confused.

" I feel it ten times more." You whisper. Jack smiles and finally breaths in a full breath.

" Then come away with me." He pleads. Though you smile your heart breaks.

"We can't." You say tears freely flowing.

"We can. We can, there is a vessel leaving tonight bound for the Pacific Islands on the tide. Couples like us can live there happily. We can set up our own hospital. You can work as a surgeon there." You shake your head at his words, "Why? What is stopping us?" He asks.

You pull the stethoscope from your sheets and hold it to your chest handing the ear piece to Jack. He listens to the way your hearts misses beats and jumps irregularly. His eyes shoot to yours.

"I'm dying, aren't I, Jack?" You whisper. Jack has no answer he pulls you into him and holds you tight as you both cry. He had never let so many emotions out in front of another person and he hoped he would never have to again. As he held you he felt your body relax against him and he laid your sleeping form back against the soft pillows. Jack removed his shoes and waistcoat before laying beside you, placing your arm out straight and putting two fingers on your pulse point. He laid there for hours, watching and feeling your heartbeat. This was a new fear he had never thought he would feel. He feared that in losing you he would lose himself. He no longer cared for his own safety.

Hello to the worst parallel in the world (affectionate)

@respectthepetty made an entire post about symbolism in Moonlight Chicken that was truly excellent and spurred a conversation in the comments that gave birth to another truly excellent post about potential for the central conflict in Moonlight Chicken.

And as I watch episode 3 I cannot help but think about this moment of foreshadowing at the end of episode 1 and the statement it is making.

Above is a photo of Wen's ID card with the Marina logo printed on the back of the ID and the words "Wen- Moonlight Chicken- Temp Staff" scrawled in marker on top of the plastic ID cover. The words here block out or overshadow Marina, showing Wen's attention and interest lies in the chicken shop above his interest in Marina.

At this point in the show, I had begun to suspect that Wen (and possibly Alan) would be involved in a Marina project that would potentially threaten the Moonlight Chicken Diner. When Episode 2 aired, this conversation between Kaipa and Jim made me think Marina would just be building new food market territory in the zones around where Moonlight Chicken Diner was located, driving up prices of both rent and food and making it impossible for Jim to continue to operate at the prices he is currently charging:

Enter Episode 3 where we get the Grand Reveal. Marina is planning on expanding their food court (which we already knew), they are not just going to purchase the buildings and put their own vendors in, they are planning on demolishing the existing structures and build something new over top. And what do we learn about the zones Marina is considering? The zones include the Moonlight Chicken Diner

And here is where the worst (emotionally) visual parallel comes in to play. The Marina logo with the tagline "creating a sustainable future" printed on top right corner of a photo of the Moonlight Chicken Diner. Looming over top of the building like it's waiting for its moment to strike. Even Jim's green truck is parked in front of the diner in this photo. He's in that diner, he's preparing food for the evening when this photo was taken, completely unaware of the fact that someone is outside, ready to tear his chicken shop to the ground. And respectthepetty, if you are seeing this post, I for one think it is very rude of the blue and red color coding to continue even in this photo with the blue wall and red lanterns.

Anyway, the gay chicken show has consumed my life and we are only 3 episodes in.

I haven't finished episode 3 yet, only got through part one and felt compelled to make this post so unless they already handle it later on in the episode I am very interested in how Jim will react to finding out that he's the other man once Alan show up in full force, or what I will affectionately be calling 'The Cock Fight" but you know...that's a whole other post.

Also, please do NOT get me started on the irony of Marina's tagline being "creating a sustainable future" when they keep driving prices higher and are only interested in demolition of old historic buildings *cough, cough*

Edit: lmao, not me starting part 2 of episode 3 and having them give me the same parallel immediately.

what kinda problems does tma have? i haven’t finished listening to the whole thing yet but i don’t mind spoilers. asking because i wanted to gauge if it’s something i haven’t gotten to yet or something i’ve missed!

oh yeehaw i will gladly tell you!

full disclosure i haven't actually finished listening to it, I still need to pick up again after s3 but I've listened up till then

also spoilers below for anyone planning on listening to it!

anyway, tma is overall a VERY good podcast and especially in the horror genre, its incredibly well written and effective and genuinely fucking scary and unsettling, and manages to do that without using misogyny or homophobia/transphobia as a device to achieve the sense of dread you get in pretty much every episode. that being said there's a few instances of casual (unintended) racism, such as episode 72 which has a case of anti-chinese racism where the villain is a Chinese cannibal that owns a takeaway shop. that is the most blatant example I remember, there are likely others I have missed because I am white and these things go over my head, but if other people remember better than I do I encourage them to respond to this!

in terms of other problems, to be honest I think what I'm talking about is just my engagement with the show - namely Daisy Tonner. she's a police detective who gets involved with the main cast during s2 and is an avatar of the hunt, sometimes headcanoned by fans as being werewolf like in nature. she's not a nice person, nasty and blunt and rude and brutal, and there are several instances in the show where she kills others and justifies it with reasoning ranging from 'suspected to be a vampire' to 'my boss told me to'. she's violent and cruel and her morality is tied to the law, in that she takes the orders she's given and works to uphold an unjust system based on her perception of other people as a threat, and this comes out in almost every interaction she has with anyone, especially jon, the main character. at one point she kidnaps him and holds him at knifepoint in the woods, fully intending to kill him, before something stops her (its been a while since I've listened to it I can't quite remember what gfjkds).

as a character i fucking adore her. i love female characters who are actually seriously vicious and cruel and horrible people and allowed to be awful, the narrative doesn't shame them for their personality. to me daisy means a lot and I see a lot of myself in her horrible attitude and nasty demeanour (take that as you will ghjfdksl).

but i can't deny that she's a cop and comes with everything that entails. she's suspicious of everyone, she threatens legal action that she can take, and failing that threatens violent action instead, sometimes acting on it. she's part of a group that works to protect their own and target suspects for their own personal agenda rather than any actual sense of 'justice'. as much as I love her for being a female character with bite and attitude, she is like that for a reason. she's also incredibly emotionally dependent on Basira, her coworker-turned-magnus-archives-employee. their relationship is quite homoromantic but its never confirmed as actually romantic or anything because fuck cops, lesbians or not.

(if you're worried about queerbaiting in the show tho, don't, I promise there's none, because no one ever advertised the show as being queer friendly/having canon queer relationships so they literally didn't bait anyone at all, and people who say that don't actually know what queerbaiting means)

i love daisy as a character and I do think she is a very interesting exploration of police institutions, especially with the lens of the hunt and the horror that all that entails, I think its very well done as horror literature. but there's a reason people hate her and it'd be unfair of me to not warn you of the kinds of things she does in the show, in case that's upsetting for you.

in terms of the actual show content, trigger warnings range from gore, body horror, insects, depression, mental health, paranoia, unreality, and many more, and various times they intersect with instances of marginalised characters that don't come across as well-intentioned as the creators probably wanted.

this is a list of trigger warnings by episode (all 200 of 'em) and is generally good for checking if you can listen to the episode, especially the earlier seasons, because it wasn't until about s4ish that they started including trigger warnings for really graphic things in the episode introductions.

this is a folder of transcripts of all the episodes, which I personally found helpful when starting the show. i'd often read transcripts and if I could handle that, id listen to the episode (until I binged half of s1 in a week and got used to the general sense of dread the show gave me and after that I just dived in lmao).

thats mostly what i talk about in terms of bad - the show is good, so good, but it is a tragedy and it is horror and it has some horrendous people, some of which will be worse than others, and being horror it's gonna upset you in some areas. tread with caution, look at the trigger warnings and transcripts if you need to, and maybe avoid the fandom for the most part, it was not very pleasant when the show was airing, but overall, this series is so good and I do gladly recommend it to anyone looking to branch into horror. i think if you follow me and enjoy the same things I do you won't regret giving tma a shot ^^

anon i’m answering your ask like this because i wanted to add the spoiler warnings above. i know you meant well, but i haven’t finished tteotm yet 😣 i know it’s been a while since it came out and maybe it’s my fault for not making it more clear that it’s my first time watching it? it's sort of ok bc with the writing of the drama so far and the current trajectory of events i was kind of suspecting it might go that way anyway, but i was still a bit hopeful there'd be a happy ending in the final arc and now i know there won't be 😭 (unless you're like, playing mind games with me and preparing me for it to be sad and it's actually happy lol).

anyway if you want me to tell you which episode it is after i finish i can do that too lol just let me know

That was one of the most bizarre lines in a season with some odd writing choices. Writers should really consider reading the scripts for the previous episodes before writing theirs 😂

Yeah for real, like Edwina had plenty of legitimate reasons to be mad, why did they make her big speech nonsense??

I haven't finished the season yet, I don't know the fate of poor Edwina, but I suspect this whole "let me live my life, I'm an independent woman and I didn't even want this marraige" speech coming completely out of nowhere is meant to diminish the audience's justifiable anger towards Anthony and Kate for letting it get to the actual altar. Like, "see Edwina didn't really want all that anyway! You may now guiltlessly rejoice that the path is clear for these two idiots."

But she did want it, more than anything I believe were her words. That is the heart breaking part, don't downplay that suffering, ugh.

PERKS OF DATING A YOUNGER GUY I LEARNED AFTER WATCHING CHINESE DRAMA FIND YOURSELF + REVIEW!

1. He has less baggage

This means that he has more time to attend to your needs and wants unlike an older guy with a demanding schedule and lots of responsibilities at hand.

2. He's more open-minded and adventurous

They are open to having new experiences and won't judge you for veering off the path you should stay on.

3. He's infectiously energetic *ehem*

Need I say more? A younger guy's youthful sense will surely find unimaginable ways to impress you!

4. He puts you on a pedestal

A younger man will appreciate your maturity and experiences and will admire you for it. They're also most likely take advice from you without letting it bruise their ego.

5. He'll make you feel young

Be prepared to relive the fun parts of your younger years with him.

It's not so wrong to say that the May-December relationship is taboo, especially among Asians. Most people I know had this inkling that when a younger guy hooks up with a woman way older than him, it could prolly mean one of two things — the guy's a paramour or she's a sugar momma. I'm honestly not a fan of it either on the premise that women mature faster than men. Let's be real, an immature relationship is a disaster. But now that I'm in my late 20s, and a hopeless romantic single at that, I kinda pondered over this. It suddenly occurred to me, what if one day I’m caught up in the position of being pursued by a younger man? Will I let the stigma affect me emotionally? Or will I take the risk ‘coz all is fair in love? I still don’t have a definite answer to this question. However, watching Find Yourself served as an eye-opener for me to look at things from a different perspective.

Find Yourself is a 2020 Chinese drama starring Song Wei Long and Victoria Song. It tells the story of a 32-year old Executive Director who never *even once* experienced dating. Given her age and career stability, she receives constant pressure from the people around her to find someone to marry and has since frequented blind dates arranged by her family, friends, or colleagues. But this girl is just someone who swears by the "spark" - no spark, then no point to the relationship. She may be old for fantasizing over first love and such, but she still yearns that it'll naturally come to find her someday. Until her thirst for real romance is quenched by a 22-year-old guy who started working as an intern in her company at his brother’s request.

Although hesitant at first due to their huge age difference and the societal views, she went out with him on the condition that they'll keep it a secret for the first 3 months. If everything went well, she agrees to publicize her relationship with him.

Let’s start off with the good things...

I just can't with this drama...! This so beautiful, cute, relatable - especially for a woman in late 20s like me.

Plot-wise, it was well-imparted and makes perfect sense, touching a looooooot of relationship aspects in 41 episodes. Not only did I enjoy the happenings between our main couple, but our side couples' stories are very interesting too.

This drama pretty much straightened out my prejudice about age-gap relationships.

Light-hearted, just the way I like it! Every episode will make you smile and/or laugh hard.

Sexual tensions overload and superb kissing scenes! Let those hormones rush in. Not awkward to watch 'coz They. Did. Not. Hold. Back. Ack! If you're single, be prepared to feel MORE SINGLE watching this drama.

Well-written lines that will make you feel real emotions. The words will shoot you straight to the heart.

Acting-wise, the casts, from the mains down to the sides, did a super fine job in conveying the sentiments of their characters. My highest admiration goes to male lead Yuan Song, not (only) because he’s young, hot, and handsome, but because his youthful vibe made me reminisce the paradox of my early 20s awww. Anyways, in the beginning, I am sort of confused why (of all girls) he fell head over heels with our female lead He Fanxing who's obviously out of his league. I even suspected him of taking advantage of her naivety in matters of the heart. But as the drama went along, our dude proved himself genuine... That he's sincerely just a guy who's deeply in love with a woman... That indeed, true love can exist in this kind of relationship. Both Yuan Song and Fanxing emotionally benefited from each other and it's so lovely seeing that.

⚠️ AND SORRY BUT THIS IS A SPOILER ALERT⚠️

Halfway through the drama, our main couple called it quits. I'm somewhat grateful that it happened. Their break-up scene is just so powerful I had to rewind it many times. Not because I liked seeing them suffer from the consequences of their incompatibility. Rather, I loved it 'coz it became the turning point of their relationship.

Their love is premature, to begin with — trust isn't mutual, commitment is one-way, only showing each other's good sides in fear of the relationship turning sour, one is willing to compromise while the other wants to avoid responsibility, filled with doubts and insecurities. During this break-up phase, we were shown the difference between how kids and adults behave and decide in a dilemma. I suddenly remembered this one line delivered in the drama which I agree with — "Only kids would choose one or the other. Adults find solutions". The break-up also served as our main couple's period of contemplation about who and what they want in life. It taught them how to fully embrace their offbeat romance against the norms. Fortunately, things wrapped up into a sweet end.

And of course the bad...

Hmmm... Maybe I'm just not used to it but am I the only one who thinks that this drama is quite lengthy? Yes, I enjoyed it but it's not a good one to binge-watch. It took me almost a month to finish this I nearly drowned haha. Honestly, there were parts they could've just compressed instead of dragging it for too long. One example is Ye Luming and He Fanxing's relationship trial. Ooohhh I hate this part it brought shivers down my spine ugh. Well truth be told, Luming and Fanxing are compatible and better off as friends. They jive so well, and I give it to them that they're both adults who can only understand adult things.

But when Luming all of a sudden became a sneaky character to an intolerable point... Ah, I don't know anymore! Seeing how compelled Fanxing is to being Luming's girlfriend got under my skin. Although these ugly parts eventually became a good contributory factor to Fanxing's realization of her true feelings towards Yuan Song, but still...! I also hated Fanxing at one point for being so gullible in love. But yeah, I had to swallow it because that's her character setup in the first place. It should be expected of her to be hasty and dubious about it.

On the other hand, I wished they've been generous in showing us more about how Yuan Song and Fanxing's relationship is going after the public reveal. I've been waiting for this the entire time (they could've done so much more in 41 episodes' length!) so I'm quite disappointed.

After watching the second season of Well-Intended Love, I admit I lost interest in Chinese dramas. So watching this restored my faith in them. I even have a list of C-dramas lined up now! But I have to move on from this one first before I start another. It's not as easy as I thought ㅠㅠ

If you don't mind, can you elaborate on what IS on the call sheet a little bit? I haven't seen it and I wouldn't know how to read it anyway, but if you feel like getting into it could explain some of what you saw/what it means? I know CL fans started the dying rumor so I didn't buy it in the first place, but I'm super curious about what was actually on it since I actually like spoilers. If you're hesitant to post it under a cut, I can come off anon or pm you if you don't mind sharing!

OK y’all. I’m going to put this under the cut, because there are HEAVY spoilers here, so you know…don’t read if you don’t want spoilers (I will not be posting the pictures!) Before you proceed you need to know that people receive the Call Sheet for an episode at the filming of the episode before it. So, as this is the Call Sheet for 3x13, they received this Call Sheet at the end of filming for 3x12. The rest is under here:

So the first page is a cover, probably for ep 312 as the call sheet is for ep313

We have 313′s official title now: praimfaye

There’s no Miller, Harper, Brian, Octavia or Jasper on this call sheet, which means their actors were not needed for this particular shoot

The people who are on set are Clarke, Bellamy, Monty, Murphy, Raven and Luna

Clarke and Raven might both be hurt or maybe the girls get a little extra makeup because they report to makeup 1st in the morning

There is a WF next to both Raven and Clarke’s stunt double, which means “Work Finished”, this is jargon for last day on set

Regular w’s next to a character’s name mean this is standard work and they are not yet finished filming for the season

Clarke might have a wardrobe or makeup change, same for Raven, as they both have two h/m/w (hair/makeup/wardrobe) times

There is a column that says cast and in that column there are numbers, this represents the cast members who will be in each scene

Characters are numbered in order of their importance which means that Clarke is definitely 1, I suspect Bellamy is 1s,

Raven, Murphy and Monty are likely the 10, 12 and that other blurry number (either a 6 or 8) I can’t tell.

Luna is a guest star, so she’s most likely 99

The scenes at the bottom of the call sheet happen at Night (that’s what the D/N means)

In the scenes at the bottom they are pulling out an “02 genny” which is an oxygen generator

This means that Clarke and Bellamy are NOT in the scene where they are pulling up the generator, but as there is no WF next to their character names we know they are still filming.

Because of this, I believe there is going to be a dramatic bellarke moment

02 gennys typically don’t hold that much oxygen, usually only enough for 1 person or an hour’s supply. They are life saving devices that pump in oxygen while filtering out air toxins like carbon monoxide

I suspect that Clarke doesn’t make it to wherever she’s running to in time and gets trapped outside and maybe Bellamy gets trapped with her, either way they wind up in peril

Bellamy, Clarke and Luna seem to share a lot of scenes in the earlier part of the call sheet (there are lots of 1, 1s and 99s up top)

But towards the bottom there’s just 99 working with 10 and 12, so I’m thinking that Bell and Clarke get trapped, Luna runs to tell the others, Monty and Raven probably

They pull up this old genny to try to extend the time that Bell and Clarke have while thinking of other options which makes sense given raven and monty are our technological people

THE FOLLOWING IS SPECULATION BASED ON THE CALL SHEET INFO

Because 02 gennys don’t have a lot of oxygen I’m thinking we might get a scene where they argue over who deserves/needs/should take the air

Because this will probably be a very tense situation, I imagine we might get a serious confession or perhaps even a kiss here especially as this is the finale

I don’t know if these are the last scenes of the episode-it would be an amazing cliffie to leave us with one of our mains possibly unconscious while the others work to save them both on the outside

but the call sheet indicates that everyone but raven and clarke’s stunt double still had more scenes to shoot, so it’s POSSIBLE these aren’t the last scenes of the episode

These scenes also don’t take up that much actual screen time as you can tell by the pg number column

It looks like they are saying Page 32, but really they are counting how much time each scene will take up during the episode, so the first scene on the list for example, that takes 32/8- that’s about 5 minutes of screen time while the ones that say 1/8 are only about 10 seconds(rule of thumb-for every 1/8th you see, add about 10 seconds to the screen time)

Indra appears to be in the finale, she’s listed as travelling at the bottom, along with a character named Gaia who I BELIEVE is the Grounder with the dreads who people keep saying is Indra’s daughter.

Of course it’s also possible that Adina and this Gaia actor are LEAVING set and are being compensated for their travel time, which is a thing that happens.

And thats the end of my observation thus far.
