i do recc that you pick up some antholgies as well!! i love short stories all bundled up bc its like. a good way to read a lot without needing to commit to several hundred page stories. i have a few copies of different books from broadview anthology so thats my exp w anthologies!
i recently [read - two years ago] read the invisible life of addie larue which i like bc i love that take on immortality and so i decided to buy three more books by ve shswab (?) bc i liked the prose/diction. im also a big fan of girl on the train - i reccd it to my coworker and she loved the book and spilled the tiniest little sodie on it and felt so bad she bought me an entirely new copy LMAO and so thas a good read 2 me too!!
i also really like the picture of dorian grey and if i dug around my tub of books im sure i could hunt down some other novels i liked but that would take too long. i also love like. problem novels which are like. definitely necessary to read if youre trying to develop media literacy which is dying atm i strongly believe people are becoming weaker readers and the death of media literacy will be the death of art in general
ive fallen behind on uhh once upon an eclipse which is a ragbros kaeya turns into a kid longfic but DEFINITELY reccomend it and angel and an alpha which is a redacted asmr fic but it Changed my brain chemistry (and got me in trouble w my manager bc i was reading it in the back before the store was even open so i think shes annoying ANYWAY) and between you me and the fencepost which is another redacted fic that i pray to update every day
also pls read mitosis by my bestie its an obey me canon x oc and sometimes my little oc shows up and says hi in it LMAO

I finally have some more time to read fic and I want to make this a regular thing: reccing five fics every Friday, both fics I've read during the week but also older works that I love. So without further ado, here are some newer and older faves:
1. In Repair (Dorian Pavus/Trevelyan, DA, T) by breadbowl: Inky & co are exploring some ruins when Dorian is attacked by Venatori. What follows next is a spoiler lol so I won't say anything else, but this fic was so angsty but also funny in places, with lots of action and banter. It was like extra content from the game which is my favorite kind of DA fic.
2. Librarian To The Future (Dorian Pavus/Trevelyan, DA, T) by norwasmeanttobe: The Inquisition needs a book of magic which has been destroyed, so Dorian time travels to the Ostwick Circle of eight years before to find its last copy. There he meets a young Inquisitor Trevelyan, who was the Circle librarian at the time. A truly delightful fic, plus the author's Trevelyan is such a sweetie. Loved this.
3. Chintz (Achilles/Patroclus, Hades/TSOA, M) by @baejax-the-great: Achilles is trapped in a miserable marriage, and in order to escape it -and himself- he starts drinking heavily while also sleeping with his best friend (and long time crush, but no one's talking about that lmao). The pain!!! The misery!!! All the suppressed emotions!!! It hurts so good 😭 My heart broke for both of them and now I am ANXIOUSLY waiting for a reunion that will mend it (i.e. poking Bae with a stick while she writes 👀)
4. as we circle the moon (Keith/Shiro, VLD, E) by @monstersinthecosmos: follows the events in the show after Shiro disappears post s2, and is then found-- but fem!Sheith 🥺 Kacy's written some of my all time fave sheith angst, and this is no exception: an in depth exploration of Keith's state of mind after losing Shiro and Shiro's own struggles towards recovery, just so soft and sad and poignant and true to character. I love these gorls <3
5. Calamitous Love (Tadashi/Ainosuke, Sk8 the Infinity, E) by @starryskeyes: I read this one a while back, but boy howdy has it left its mark on me. I am a slut and a weakling for childhood friends to lovers to exes back to lovers (no one knows them like they know each other!!!!! ;w;) and this hit the spot JUST RIGHT, Chel's prose and characterisations are divine and made me feel so many emotions. I just want to wrap Tadashi in blankets and keep him safe. 😭

sudden urge to talk about Rayan's origins in the context of how he became an oc so I'm just gonna do that-
way back when, Rayan was pretty much just one of my preferred names online. he was also once a Mandela Catalogue oc (/sona I guess?? he had a lot of features that are comparable to me in real life lmao-), which then turned him into an SCP oc along with a whole ass SCP au for him, which was when I was introduced to Wynter's (@paranoia-exe) wonderful oc, Vantè Ramirez. this progressed to giving him lore! he was originally just an employee at a record store, then I implemented the whole murderer ordeal, and so on and so forth!
(spoilers ahead for new lore I haven't talked about yet!)
of course, I think Iris, Harris, Oliver and Delia (fun fact: Delia was originally meant to be Rayan's sister at the start of his creation! of course that shifted into them just being friends during his TMC arc-) came first. then there was Madison, Carrie, along with Sage. I'm not sure the order of which the rest of them were included (for example: Dorian, who was based off of "Everyone's Dying (Grandma's Drunk Again)" by Roe Kapara, Ophelia who I think was based off of "Sex With A Ghost" by Teddy Hyde?? I dunno but she's revived now ig- along with Clyde, Kade, Zaden, Maclin, August (August was actually a placeholder oc for a concept with Rayan and Ryn Ramirez!! (another one of Wynter's amazing ocs)), Vivian, Rome, etc etc), but I do know that A'zhari (I've considered changing his name to something else but I don't know yet, so sorry ;w;) was the most recent oc I've made! Foster, Esrana, Ezra and Madir have all been ocs for a long time (other than the first two (somewhat??) because ykyk- Rayan's earlier stage of murdering innocent people 😌!! oh also he's immortal now lmao-

tagged by @fade-and-loathing-in-thedas. continuation of this scene i posted a year ago lmao. for context, in this worldstate, bashaar is the herald, and matteo is the inquisitor and also an ex-crow who ends up romancing dorian, in spite of himself.
(idk how to warn for this, but matteo has a fucked up perspective of sex since he's never experienced it outside the coercive circumstances of his work. dorian didn't force him in any way, but there's implied dubcon just becuz of how matteo thinks about sex)
“Well, then.” Matteo took a deep breath, straightening, and met Dorian’s eyes. “If you tell me what you want, I’ll see what I can do.”
The earth tilted under Dorian’s feet again. “Come again?”
Matteo’s eyebrow raised the same way it had when he questioned Dorian’s lingering presence in his bed. “You said you want something. It’s okay, but you didn’t need to seduce me for it. I like you, so I’ll get it.”
The feeling of wrongness was turning to a sense of dread.
“What do you mean, seduce you?”
Matteo was looking at Dorian as though he were baffling one. “To get what you want?”
“I—I wasn’t trying to get anything from you.”
Matteo’s expression grew annoyed again. “But you just said you wanted something else.”
“Yes, but I—what I want isn’t a thing.”
Matteo threw his hands up, exasperated. “Well, if you can speak plainly for five seconds so I know what you do want!”
Dorian’s mouth opened, but the words immediately choked up in his throat. Matteo glared at him, impatient. Finally, Dorian managed, “Why did you have sex with me?”
“Because you wanted it. I said that already.”
“But… did you want it?”
Matteo huffed, hands on his hips. “I don’t see how that’s relevant.” Dorian’s gut felt decidedly cold now. “I like you, so I gave it to you. You seemed pleased enough, and if you want something else, I can get that for you, too.”
“Matteo, I—I wasn’t looking for this to—to be some kind of transaction.” That was the last thing Dorian wanted, in fact.
Matteo scoffed. “Well, if that’s all you wanted, then I don’t know what I’ve done wrong.”
“You haven’t…” Dorian pressed his fingers to his temple. “All right, just—just give me a moment.” He focused on calming his thoughts. “Did you want to have sex with me?”
Matteo’s brow folded in consternation. “You already asked that, and I told you, it’s irrelevant. You wanted it, so I gave it to you.”
Dorian took a fortifying breath. “But did you want to give it to me?”
“I wasn’t opposed to it. I told you, I felt no particular way about it.” He shrugged. “It’s sex; I’ve had a lot of it.”
“But have you ever enjoyed it?”
Matteo was beginning to look distinctly uncomfortable. It was not a look Dorian had ever seen on him before. “I don’t understand why we’re talking about this. What does it matter what I wanted or what I enjoyed? I did it to make you happy, so I don’t understand why you’re not.”
“I wanted to make you happy, too.”
“I was.”
“But you didn’t want it.”
Matteo’s eyes flashed, clearly at the end of his patience. “I did not say that!”
“Well, you didn’t say you did want it.”
“Because it’s irrelevant! Sex isn’t anything to me! I did it because you wanted it and I like you and wanted to make you happy!”
Dorian was at a loss for words.

poor reader who was just hired to cook for a bunch of mean bougie people and is now stranded and jobless in another country T-T fortunately they still have poe. i get the feeling that poe is secretly pretty picky with his food but he's just too shy to say anything most of the time. ranpo eventually comes along and you totally get 'he asked for no pickles'd lmao. Dorien Frey because his body looks like it's falling apart despite maintaining a pretty face, I thought it would be funny if I named him after Dorian Gray
He's Chazs ex but because he works for Crimson he still had to go to Chazs 'wedding' to Moxxie just due to it being business.
He's worked for Crimson for a few years and has the scars and exposed bones to prove it. His hands and tail being the biggest indicators of how this job has effected him, they were lost to an acid mishap but he managed to maintain his limbs (apparently healthcare in hell is really good I mean look at Fizz lol)
He's been sad since Chaz dumped him for an already married man but he's not taking that asshat back (he says like any hurt ex that can be easily swayed lmao)

Why do you say Rowaelin is the best ship of her books what about Rhys and his wife? I haven't read that one yet just asking I mean I agree they're the best I kind of wish that Rowan appeared much earlier like in book 2 or something I hope she's done with the male lead not appearing until she broke up with the ex that she "loved" I've heard people say Rowan was only second choice and she really only loved Chaol or Sam.
uhm ... i really really don't like fey/sand 😅 i think they are probably the most popular sjm ship (why i'll never know) but i was never really that fond of them, and the latest book just made me hate the ship altogether. I can't stand rh*sand and truth be told i think feyre deserves so much better.
i actually don't mind that we (and aelin) had to wait for rowan! what she goes through book 2 is really important for her character growth and i think the story and their relationship would've been different had she not hit rock bottom before she met rowan
and i think she's done with the love interest switch, at least for now; everyone was dreading it in crescent city and thank god it didn't happen, but i think it would have made her writing even more predictable
and rowan being her second choice is the biggest bs i've ever heard lmao to be honest i wasn't the biggest fan of sam and i truly think that she didn't really love him; it was more like two traumatized teenagers latching onto each other because they suffered the same abuse. and chaol .... (my chaolaena shipper friends look away now) i never knew what she saw in him dkjjdsd and he never truly loved her, only parts of her. even when they are already together and she has to do her job (which he knows what it is) he's mad at her for killing people ??? mr you were perfectly aware she was an assassin before you hit that in the closet ... all he has is the audacity i swear. anyways im like one of the five people who liked dorian x celaena more
but if someone truly thinks that rowan is not the one for aelin, they probably stopped reading around half of heir of fire lol he is the only one who truly sees her and accepts her and loves her for who she is

Speaking of yiga clan I hope those yiga that break from the clan to fight the calamity… I think this would be a good way for wren to do it, go to Dorian and impa and tell them as if he goes to the akkala lab that may cause some issue now that the stable semi trusts the monsters there and if they see them talking to a yiga member that may cause issues
Oh trust me, I have an ENTIRE arc planned for Wren and his group. Right now I'm showing it from an outside perspective and little tidbits of what's happening as Wren really only trusts Sledge and knows if it hangs around the monsters too much it jeopardizes them both.
But things will come to a head for Wren and it's a plotline I think will absolutely cook >:)
And I'd be a little concerned for Wren if he goes to Dorian LMAO. Obviously I won't make him part of the Yiga that killed his wife, but I can't imagine he'd be happy to see an ex-coworker even one that defected - judging how he reacts to Link wearing the Yiga outfit in ToTK hjlkasdf

▪︎wulfric comes from some random germanic village, not the same as viago but similar, and has a ridiculously insane name. my gf is a huge fan of the name wulfric van schlammstein for him. bc it sounds funny.
▪︎ he travelled to england for research in studies (dawg i do not know, i'm still brainstorming this) n there he met lovely laszlo, mr gorgeous leslie cravensworth. since laz is KIND OF a science guy and I KNOOOW he did all that silly science stuff after he turned but i like to hc that laz in his human years was also studying science, as well as being in that club. as well as being raised in an aristocratic household.
anyways they somehow meet and something sparks. but since laz is consistently busy with his stuff they can only have cute little rendezvous at night in a park or something. they kiss. smoochie even.
▪︎ wulfric was NOOOT aware laz was turned by nadja. when nadja came and bedazzled laz he loves her forever and ever he kinda found wulfric cringe. like cringey dandelion ex bf (they didnt even break up officially) so laz kinda. tried to get wulfric outta his life. Laz invited wulfric for dinner in the middle of the night. Wulfric took ZERO notice to it being 12am. laszlo ate NOOOOTHING DRANK NOTHING. this bimbo had 0 realisation of any vampiric things. Anyways laz tried to poison wulfric many times that night. He thought he succeeded, but wulfric just got some weird tummy ache afterwards. It was probably expired food LMAOAOAO (im still brainstorming all of this hehehehe)
▪︎ wulfric got turned by a random vampire before he set to seas back home. This wouldve been the last time he saw laz. Loooong long ago. Wulfric was still idk man kinda food poisoned and whatever way he was, the vampire who turned him got stuck in bat form. They are best friends now.
▪︎ wulfric super slumbered for about 150 years. he knows nothing. ZILCH of any of the wars LMAO. he woke up in the 70s and just had the time of his life. sailed to the new world. hes super clueless about anything thats happened so he just takes everything at face value.
▪︎ wulfric also has a familiar !!!!! his name is dorian (i'll link a pic below) dorian was turned just before wulfric super slumbered so he knew that dorian would protect him. dorian is still his familiar. Even as a vampire. Wulfric knows hes cheating the system - he does not care.
▪︎ i like to imagine wulfric comes back into the picture w laz in a super funny way. laszlo installs an electric fence and just so happens to electrocute his silly bimbo ex bf as a bat. What the FUCK. wulfrics allllll over laz and laz just gets so flustered and embarrassed. JUST BUGGER OFF 😭😭😭😭😭 wulfric is not going anywhere.

A Place to Be (Sheith, E, 15k): this is one of the fics that I've returned to the most since writing it I think, childhood friends to lovers to estranged exes back to lovers is!!! My catnip!!!! I still think about Keith and Shiro growing up in a small rural town and falling in love, this fic has become something of a comfort read for me and I often think of revisiting this AU. Angst, pining, jealousy, hurt/comfort my beloved🙏
Enchanted (Pavelyan, E, 10k): I had so much fun writing this one and it's also one I love rereading. Dorian has a small (or not so small) crush on the Inquisitor, who is the surliest, snappiest, grumpiest man in existence UNTIL an accidental enchantment changes everything. Angst, pining, misunderstandings (can you sense a pattern lmao), but also some humour and light-hearted fluff sprinkled in there for spice (at least I found it rather lighthearted 😂). One of my faves with them 💕
