Out on my morning walk looking like a well matched queen 👸🏻

Thinking about my peers on here doing some reflecting and setting of goals and pondering if I set concrete goals for myself this year. Retrospectively, yes I suppose I did! Things just kind of happened and I guess seeing them through was the persistence.

My brain dump looking back -

👩🏻‍🏫 Work - Hmm. Well I started in a role that will not exist next year which is a shame. I will still be in a similar role, albeit temporarily until the end of the year. Then, I am not sure what’s happening. My HSC class ranked 1st in our system so that’s pretty exciting. I made a lot of connections with my students and supported them through some pretty heavy shit…

📚 Study - …This then prompted me to start my Masters which I am 3 units into. I have been toying with the idea of pursuing this for ten years so that is a long term goal achieved for sure!

💵 Other work - I wrote freelance exam papers and did HSC marking for some side money 💰 I have said no to the exam papers for next year which I am so proud of myself for.

🏋🏽‍♀️ Training - I went to the gym 170 times which seems to average 3-4 times per week. Sounds right. Jan-Sept is hard because of netball, I was lucky to get to the gym 3 times per week during the season. My gym doesn’t open on Sundays either. Sept-Dec was a solid hit out during the challenge. I managed to lose 10kg, making my total loss since September 2022 16kg without any gains back. I didn’t suffer any major injuries in the gym and this contributed to my consistency and ability to push myself more.

🏃🏽‍♀️ Parkrun - I ran 33 parkruns this year. In April last year I set a goal to get back under 30 mins. I did it this year not once but nine times 🥹 all in the second half of the year. This was my biggest running year since 2019 due to lockdowns etc.

🏐 Netball - My rep and club team both finished 3rd 🥲 I had great seasons, particularly for club my shooting accuracy was the highest and most consistent it’s been for years sitting around 85-90% every game. That was my goal ✅ No injuries that sidelined me - except for my dislocated finger 🤣 briefly. Another goal ✅

💵 Monies - Without putting amounts out there it’s pleasing and also a privilege to get through the year comfortably. I got to travel with my bestie at the start of the year, book a holiday with Josh (Wednesday eee) and still save a good amount for my emergency fund, general savings and pay for my units upfront for uni (although 75% is subsidized thanks government). When I cleaned out my wardrobe I was pleased not too part with too much which means I haven’t overconsumed and wasted.

🏥 Health - I had my endo surgery which had been on my mind for about 3-4 years. ✅ I already feel so many benefits from it and regret not having it again sooner (last one was 2009!). Had another iron infusion. Generally, I do look after my health and try to do regular dental, chiro, GP visits etc. I only saw my psych once this year. I could probably have done with a top up because things got very dicey for me around April, but we made it through.

🥂 Alcohol - I stopped drinking between August-November and since have only had alcohol on 5 occasions (I use a dry days tracker). I’m sorting out when feels safe for me to drink and how much control I have. The reset has really helped me understand why I used to drink, sometimes alone, and that I put myself in unsafe situations when this happens. I still have some soul searching to go but I am on the right track.

My brain dump for 2024 -

👩🏻‍🏫 Work - Enjoy the year. Relax a little. Set boundaries. Know where you stand.

📚 Study - Complete 5 units

💵 Other work - HSC marking and that’s it

🏋🏽‍♀️ Training - Keep up with gym, average 4-5 times per week. Bench 60! Be nicer to people at 5am 🤣

🏃🏽‍♀️ Running - Attend as many parkruns as I can. Go under 28 (home PB). Volunteer more. Maybe do a half again in November? Depends on other factors.

🏐 Netball - Have already said no to rep (can you tell I am being so firm with my resources next year?). Will always play club. Goal - Win grand final again. Shoot at 90-95% accuracy.

💵 Monies - We connected with a financial advisor just before Christmas so plan to see that through and have a look at what we can do! Clearer goals will then form. I also want to stop shouting people things. I am overly generous with this and it needs to stop because a lot of the time it’s colleagues who never do a shout so it never comes back to me 🥲

🏥 Health - Find out what I am anaphylactic to on 28/2 😀 and hopefully don’t die during that test! Continue managing my endo and other factors that connect to all of that. Maintain my weight loss in healthy and sensible means (which I am confident in myself I can).

🥂 Alcohol - I want to continue to be mindful in my motives for drinking, how society has normalized alcohol consumption, etc. I want to be safe, feel healthy and not ruin next days for myself.

📷 - My bestie and I need to take more photos together

📱- I really need to reduce my screen time (cruise will help with this!)

📖- I really need to read more (2 books planned for our cruise!)

🧽 - I keep editing and adding to this lol. I want to maintain a really minimal space inside our home. We have done a lot of decluttering the last few weeks and I am really keen to keep it up. We have a council clean up booked for 2/1 and what better way to start the NY! Can’t wait to drag some of our old stuff out and say see ya 👋🏾

no literally I think about the if stories like ALL the time. I think one of the big advantages of having a story where time travel can happen is that the side stories reveal so much about who the characters could have been if things went a little differently. one of re:zero's biggest themes is the way identity is informed by both the choices you make and the people you meet, and it's strangely fitting that both subaru and emilia are at all times disturbingly close to a breaking point. you really get to see how fragile both their identities are and especially how bad subaru can be when he's at his worst. it reveals so much about both of them

YEAH NO FOR REAL THE WHAT:IF STORIES ARE SO GOOD FOR THAT EXACT REASON

like. okay i know that theres a marvel "what if" series and im not ragging on it but a lot of the concepts for it based on what i know are totally random scenarios, which can be good fun, but i feel like the way re:zero handles the what:if stories as dark routes the characters could have EASILY gone down if subaru didnt make the "right" choice in that arc so much more interesting. especially w how theyre combined w the sin he learned to overcome within himself and how those themes end up relating back to the story even if theyre not in the main route... if anything its closer to like, you know, video game routes! the whole "return by death" thing is already sort of a dark twist on the respawn mechanic lol. but like in the way that theyre "canon" but not actually the one true route, the events in them are still equally important to the story and the characters. theyre not just aus because they matter thematically. (well, most of them, butterfly dream doesnt count since it was written as a joke before the author knew what he wanted the "what:if" series to be and i think its since been discontinued as the "canon" lust:if)

ill say i was a bit disappointed with this years april fools story to that end though since we didnt get a proper what:if and instead just a genderbend of arc 1- i understand that maybe its not quite the time for one yet but a genderbend is so boring to me because its the exact same scenario but with pronouns flipped, and arc 1 isnt even a particularly fun arc on reread (we're ALREADY introduced to the world! we dont need a reintroduction to Reinhard With Boobs). oh well its not actually a big deal at the end of the day its just mildly disappointing.

but i do think its really funny and clever that the what:ifs come out on april fools day because its also subaru’s birthday. did you know season 2 was originally meant to air from april 1st to september 23rd (emilia’s birthday)? i think thats a super cool and fun concept but sadly covid happened in 2020 lol. but season 2 still rocked... the full 30 min episodes w no op or ed you can tell there was care there

I’m one of those idiot #millennials who doesn’t know how to fill up his car tires.

A new vocal recording booth and microphone pop filter were purchased and set up in the bedroom of my #MetroDetroit apartment before recording “#FaceTattoo.” After recording vocals and spending about one week mixing them, I realized that I hadn’t removed the microphone foam cover before recording, and the combination of that and the new pop filter muffled the vocals beyond repair, meaning I couldn’t fix the muffle in post production by tweaking the EQ, reverb, etc. With this realization, I re-recorded all of the vocals without the pop filter and spent a few extra days mixing them.

The original chorus was meant to use vocoder vocals generated by Waves #OVox (a plug-in purchased for this song) with the lyrics “she looks like a rockstar, she looks like a tyrant, she looks like a gypsy, she looks like a hybrid,” but no matter what I tried, I wasn’t able to get it to sound good enough to release. In the end, the original chorus was deleted, and the hardcore gay accented verse vocals “she let’s me do whatever I wanna do, wanna do, wanna do…” were turned into the new chorus.

The gay accent was an idea that I had during the 2nd vocal recording session. I thought it sounded hilarious, and anything that I could do to exploit it within this song, I did.

That’s one of the biggest benefits of DAWs, the ease in splicing together different recordings to create something new. Something similar would happen with “Her Dad (Song 96),” where vocals from the 1st verse were manipulated to create the song‘s chorus.

Developing instruments for “Face Tattoo” was even more difficult than “Rich & Crazy” and “Sex Song,” which were the most difficult songs to produce on GoBoy 5 up until this point. After a few days of developing instrument tracks, they weren’t quite meshing with the vocals and were subsequently deleted. A few more days were spent creating a 2nd set of instrument tracks, which were a little better, but still didn’t mesh well enough with the vocals. In the end, the 3rd set of instrument tracks meshed well enough to warrant uploading the song to the internet, which is what I did.

Shit hit the fan at work during the making of songs 90 - 94, leading to an exodus of many employees whom I had to temporarily fill in for (many of which asked to come back months later), which resulted in this song taking longer to complete than it would have. On average, each GoBoy 3 song took four days to complete, GoBoy 4 songs took six days, GoBoy 5 songs took fourteen days, and GoBoy 6 songs took thirty days (excerpts from post 90).

Beat + bass + melody. That’s the style of GoBoy 5. While I’ve appreciated this minimalistic style for years, “Tell My Mama (Song 42)” was the first time trying it. I went whole-hog with GoBoy 5, in which most songs primarily consist of a beat, bass and melody (excerpt from post 80).

For GoBoy 5, instead of creating for the sake of creating, like I did for GoBoy 4, I wanted to make poppier songs that would appeal to a larger audience. Was that goal accomplished? Well, maybe, I guess. It resulted in the song “In Love (Song 82),” which everyone and their mother seems to like (excerpt from post 79).

GoBoy 5 ragdolled me. I remember wondering if I’d live to see the completion of the album. While the style is minimalistic, the writing and production processes were chaotic, akin to throwing darts with a blindfold on. Most songs turned into a puzzle once they reached the mixing phase, with a portion of the pieces being destined not to fit. It required constant compromising - discarding segments, restructuring, rewriting, etc. The combination of the difficult production process and temporary chaos at work left a blood-soaked trail behind me (excerpt from post 80).

In April, 2021, almost all of GoBoy 3, 4 and 5‘s songs were restructured to be under 3 minutes (preferably under 2m 30s), including this song. I became okay with releasing songs around the 2 min mark after realizing The Beatles and The Beach Boys had some songs around that length. In an attempt to increase replay value in this streaming era, most of GoBoy’s songs are now purposely around 2m 20s (excerpts from post 37).

A bass boost was added to songs 37-99 in Nov, 2021, while I was stuck at home with covid. As a result, this song feels more powerful. The bass boost isn’t a simple plugin nonchalantly added to each song. It’s a process that took about 3.5 hours per song, or one whole month to complete all songs. Admittedly, I pushed the bass boost a little too far for some of them. The bass in some songs sounds like a freaking earthquake (unnecessarily pronounced low frequencies 20 - 50 Hz). Might dial that back someday. The bass boost was also applied to every song on GoBoy 6 and beyond (excerpt from post 37).

Queen: Love and War [2019, romance/drama] - watched Episode 1 on 3/16/21. Again Idk why I started a new drama but it looked interesting. But I can't have it on in the background bc can't read the subtitles that way and can't find the vietdub version of it.

Vincenzo [2021, action/crime/comedy] - Started 2/24. Finished first 2 episodes. 1st episode was hot 😆 Watching it on Netflix so with subs and can't have it in the background. --> Episode 3 4/20

Zombie Detective [2020, comedy/drama/fantasy] - watched Episode 1 on 10/17/2020 for Choi Jin Hyuk. Looking forward to it but just haven't around to continuing it yet

Just Another Indy Muso Trying To Break Even (Part 3)

So here it is, the last part of my long-winded whine about the unfair way in which modern Indie Musicians are treated by the big bully boys (no need to mention them, you know who they are by now)!

So at the end of my last blog I told you that I’d give you some indications of Outgoings v Incoming money, that I’ve earned from the release of my debut solo album “Ghosts Of My Past”.

It’s actually a bit tricky to quantify the actual outgoings, especially when you take into consideration the amount of time it takes takes to write each song to begin with. Also every song is different so will take an alternative amount of time to record engineer and produce!

Lets say for arguments sake that it took 2 hours to write each song (in reality it could take anywhere from 20 mins to 20 years!.) Any normal profession would charge an hourly rate. So if I say, again for the sake of arguments that I charge a very reasonable rate of £20 per hour. There are 12 songs on the album, so that’s 24hrs of my time x £20 per hour = £480.

Then there’s the time spent actually recording each song. Again I’ll have to round this up to an average number. I think 10 hours per song is a reasonable amount of time, my songs are pretty simple affairs musically, so usually just involve recording me singing the main melody and two or three backing vocal parts, and an average of four different guitar tracks. So that's 12 tracks x 10 hours each = 120 Hours x £20 per hour = £2400.

Other costs involved in the recording process will usually include session musicians. I only used one session musician, that was a Bass Guitarist who played on all 12 songs on the album. Luckily for me he did it as a favour, but for the purpose of illustration I will say that he also charged £20 per hour and spent 2 Hours per track, i.e., 1 hour to work out and rehearse the bass lines and 1 hour to record them (yeah I know he’s very quick for a Bass Guitarist!). So again that’s 12 songs x 2 hours = 24 x £20 = £480.

Now we come to the fees for the mechanics of the recording, this could be split up into the actual Recording Process, Mixing, which is very basically to get the right balance of the different sounds, and Mastering, which is again very basically to make sure that the volume levels are OK for playback on various devices and radio etc.

Very often this might be done by a number of different people and at a number of different places or businesses.

In my case the album was recorded, mixed and mastered at the same studio and by the same Engineer. This is where it gets a bit tricky for me, as again the owner of the studio is a personal friend of mine, so I got my album recorded at “Mates Rates”, which I’m not going to divulge. So for this exercise after checking out various UK recording studio prices I’m going to use £300 per day for the actual recording studio hire with an engineer, which again is a very reasonable price for a smaller studio. Expect to pay £1000+ for somewhere like “Rockfield”! Each song would take approximately 1 day to record, so that’s 12 x £300 = £3600.

For the Mixing I’ve again looked at current UK prices charged and an average would seem to be about £30 per track. 12 x £30 = £360

Charges for Mastering seem to be somewhere about the same as the charges for mixing so that’s another 12 x £30 = £360

So let’s total it all up.

My time for writing = £480

My time for recording = £2400

Session Musician = £480

Recording = £3600

Mixing = £360

Mastering = £360

Total = £7680

Other costs that need to be considered, are Album Artwork, which in my case my son did for me and Artist Promotional pictures, which I did myself and actual artist promotion, which again I’m trying to do myself. So I haven’t added any costs, but if I had we would now be looking at a total outlay of around the £10,000 mark.

I’ve not even mentioned the cost of the musical instruments and effects I’ve used in the recording and breakables such as guitar strings, guitar picks etc.

Ok, so now for the big reveal. I used a company called “Distrokid” to distribute my album to all of the major Digital streaming platforms such as Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Amazon Napster etc, etc (that cost another $50 by the way). They then collect any monies paid to Spotify and hold it for you to be paid out on request.

I released the album on 13th June 2020 and as of today 1st May 2021 (note that’s 1st May not the 1st April !) I have earned from all of these Digital Streaming Platforms combined the magnificent sum of: $35 !

Yes you’ve read that correctly! $35

Despite having well over 10,000 streams (just under 10,000 on Spotify alone).

So back to the Billionaire CEO of Spotify Daniel Ek, who let me remind you said that musicians need to release music more often to be successful, and that people who only release an album every 3 or 4 years aren’t going to cut it!

Can someone explain to me how we are meant to be able to afford to release music more often when we are not getting paid a fair price for making it!

I’m going to end it here, so that I can go and cry into my beer, but before I go, someone once asked me what I’d do if I won £1000,000. I replied I’d keep on making music until the money runs out!

Dinner 9 - Rigatoni + Turkey Meatballs w/ Shredded Carrot

April 1st, 2021. 5:44pm.

Rigatoni w/ a jar of pasta sauce, shredded carrots, turkey meatballs + some stolen parm

Okay the main flavor comes from the jar sauce, so really it is docked a point for 2 reasons.

1 - I flubbed the shredded carrots, who i wa slike oh no so many salt time but then they shrunk a bunch in the pot, by putting in wayyy too much salt it was always oof when u got a big clump of them. also the iodized salt we used is def bigger/saltier than the old salt (sea salt iirc we ran out)

2 - the turkey meatballs tasted fine but they were kinda mushy

Convenience

Not bad for pasta, but not anything special. 2 pots (carrots/sauce + cooka da pasta) + then the meatballs came in a thing u can cook them in.

now something to watch out for is i used a whole box of rigatoni which we do NOT have a pot that can comfortably fit in as it turns out. it was kind of a awkward bcuz it was just full to the very top by the end and you couldnt really stir the rigatoni properly or easily stop it from boiling over

Cook Time

Ngl i am like two weeks late to this so i am not going to pretend i remember exactly how long it took, but it was like 20-30 minutes. meatballs need aorund 20 mins in the oven, carrots easily soft enough in that time.

Ingredients/Instructions

wegmans ready to cook turkey meatballs

16 oz HT box of rigatoni

jar of pasta sauce

1 bag of shredded carrots (10oz)

pre-heat ovena nd boil da water

put the carrots in small pot with salt

meatballs in for 20 mins, pasta in for whayeber box says

put in jar sauce with carrots once theyre cooked down some for funsies (this may have contributed to the sauce tasting sweet says janelle but ithought it tasted fine)

pour carrot and sauce into rigatoni and stir to combine

distribute meatballs and leftover pasta as desired

top w stolen parm from janelle

Final Notes

Pretty simple weeknight appropriate pasta. Nothing fancy. Could probably use ground meat in carrot pot instead of the meatballs, and can cook half of rigatoni but same portion of other stuff, and just make the rest after a day or two (or use two pots for the rigatoni but i only have two and the other one was being used for the carrots.

The 100 rewatch: 1x04 Murphy’s Law

I’m a new fan of The 100, who first binged it last year, August to November. This is my first full rewatch of the show. I was planning to start it anyway and finish it before the season 6 premiere on April 30, and when I saw that Fox Serbia was airing a rerun (Monday to Friday, 40 min. after midnight, with repeats the next day), starting on 1st February, it was a great opportunity to start my rewatch in HDTV on my beautiful new TV. I decided to do write-ups and tag other fans on SpoilerTV website, as I did when I was first watching the show. But my posts turned into full blown essays. So, finally, after over a week, I’ve realized: Why don’t I post them on my Tumblr blog, too? I’ll copy my write-ups of the first 7 episodes, and then I’ll post my rewatch posts after I watch each episode. (The next one, 1x08, is on Monday’Tuesday.)

Spoilers below for all 5 seasons of the show. I go of on a tangents and make a lot of references to future events.

Rating: 7/10

The first 3 episodes took place over something like a day or two, This one happens a week later. Which is a way to avoid having to show Clarke's immediate reaction to Wells' death, and to have to spend a lot of screentime on her mourning, because most of it took place off-screen (we just see her at his grave, and later talking to Finn about him and how good he was to her while they were growing up). At least Finn got an entire episode, even though it lasted just about a day in-universe. This is something that TV shows like to do - have the characters mourn for an episode or a few scenes for a dead character and then never have them mention that person again. Well, at least they did have Wells' father see apparitions of his son multiple times and mention him several times, including when he was dying.

This episode instead isn't at all about Wells, but starts with the Delinquents learning that he wasn't killed by the Grounders and that it was instead one of them, using Murphy's knife. The title of this episode, Murphy's Law, aside from being a pun, also describes the chain of events not just in this episode, but the show in general: everything that can possibly go wrong, will go wrong. This a really good episode right until the last 5 minutes or so. The interactions between Clarke, Bellamy and Murphy are really interesting. Murphy is at this point at his peak obnoxiousness. He's basically acting in the textbook "How to make enemies and alienate people" way. In the first couple of episodes, he was only antagonistic towards Wells, but now he's using his position as Bellamy's sidekick to bully other Delinquents for no reason at all, to try to make himself feel bigger, out of his own envy and hate and resentment, and his inferiority complex. To use a Buffy reference, if Murphy was a high school Mean Girl, he wouldn't be "Queen C" Cordelia Chase, he would be one of the Cordettes - people who latch onto someone more powerful and popular (in this case, Bellamy) and then bully others through that newfound 'power'. The infamous scene where he urinates on another Delinquent happens when he's overseeing the work (the Delinquents are building a wall to have a defense against a possible Grounder attack, since they still have almost no weapons) after he's first mocked that guy for not working hard enough (implying 12 year old Charlotte would work harder), and then mocked him when he said he needed water, but then Bellamy told Murphy to go and get him water. And that's probably why Murphy then urinated on the guy, he couldn't take it when Bellamy took the guy's side, so to speak, and cut down his position of power (or what Murphy sees as such) by sending him to fetch water. Hey, look, here's Manny Jacinto as one of the boys bullied by Murphy. Of course I didn't notice him before, he appears for like a second. Even with knowing Murphy's later development, there's no two ways about it, he was a total dick at this point. Which makes the situation more ambiguous when he's blamed and almost lynched for something he didn't actually do - Wells' murder - though he had threatened to do it, and together with Clarke jumping to conclusions and accusing him of it, because Wells was murdered by Murphy's knife, and the fact that most Delinquents obviously really dislike Murphy at this point (no surprise) leads to that result. What happens to him is wrong, and someone should have apologized for it. But that doesn't excuse him at all for what he does next, trying to make people kill Charlotte instead, after she has confessed, and then, after realizing no one is supporting him, doing his best to kill her, including threatening Clarke's life at one point. I wouldn't think this needed to be pointed out, but I've seen some people in comments to YouTube reaction videos to this episode actually, in all seriousness, argue that he was right and that Charlotte should have been killed. WTF? What's wrong with people that they don't get the whole being 12 year old thing? I know that USA has the weird habit of putting minors on trial as adults, but even then, I'm pretty sure even US legal system doesn't go that far to execute 12 year olds. At which point did the writers and viewers decide that Clarke was "the Head" and Bellamy "the Heart" (which the show made explicit in the season 4 finale, and then overturned in season 5)? I've always felt that was a huge oversimplification and I'm generally not too fond of it. Season 1 Clarke was pretty impulsive in some situations, especially in this episode (it was her best friend who was murdered, after all), immediately deciding that Murphy is the killer and should be punished, while Bellamy argued that this would be a bad idea, because it would create unrest and make the Delinquents turn on each other, and that it was better for them to keep thinking it was the Grounders who did it. Which was maybe cynical, but pragmatic and rational. (BTW, I don't think Bellamy made a connection that Charlotte was the killer - he probably forgot about giving her Murphy's knife or thought someone else took it, but in any case, I don't think it would have occurred to him that she would do it.) Then Clarke actually confronts Murphy angrily in front of everyone, which causes the avalanche of disastrous events, as the boy that Murphy bullied earlier and a bunch of others immediately decide to hang Murphy and ask Bellamy to do it.

Clarke had a lot of moral certainly at this point (which will be eroded slowly over the course of the show) but sometimes it was a bit too straightforward (she didn't stop to think how people will react - you could say, she didn't know her audience that well as Bellamy did), and here she realized that things weren't that simple - she wanted to get some kind of justice, but didn't want Murphy killed, and seeing what she had caused, she admits to Bellamy "I was wrong earlier, you were right".

But where Bellamy goes really wrong in 1x04 is decide to "give people what they want" - in this case, a culprit they want and his death. It's one of his biggest mistakes in S1 and one that will come to bite him in the a.$s, especially at the end of the season when Murphy starts his revenge spree, which will be directed at the guys who first wanted to hang him, but most of all at Bellamy himself. And Bellamy will learn his lesson, an opposite one from Clarke, that you need to do the right thing and not just give the crowd what they want (in 1x12 he tells Clarke "Crowds make bad decisions, just ask Murphy").

The moment when Bellamy goes ballistic and starts acting on pure emotion - and tries to kill Murphy immediately - is later after Charlotte commits suicide, due largely to Murphy's pressure - because of course he would react like that to her death. Guess what, Finn acting decently (actually decently, not just on the surface) didn't last. We find out he was exploring woods by his own and found an old shelter, but he didn't tell anyone. Instead, he gives Clarke a pencil to impress her (right after she's told him about how Wells used to give her stuff when they were growing up, and that she didn't realize at the time that he was denying himself things to give them to her... hmmm). Later he reveals the shelter to Clarke when they need to hide Charlotte from Murphy and his gang. Clarke asks why he hasn't told anyone, and immediately thinks about how they could use things, but Finn tries to justify himself, saying that the food has all expired and there are no weapons, and besides, if he had told everyone, then they couldn't use the shelter now that they need it. So how does that work - he foresaw they would need to hide someone from the rest of the Delinquents?? Or he was just waiting for a chance to use that shelter to show it to Clarke and just Clarke, impress her and show her how good he is to her and how much she needs him? Am I being too harsh on Finn? He does some good things in this episode, like do his best to stop the crowd from hanging Murphy. But still... I never liked him much, my perspective on him is different now, after I have seen season 2 Finn with his "I killed all those people for you, Clarke!" thing, At the time I first watched this, I assumed that Finn was meant to be likable, but that the combination of bad writing and bad acting made him unlikable. I didn't know what it was about Finn that rubbed me the wrong way or that didn't resonate with me. But now I see more and more reasons to dislike him, and I think that his character is more consistent than I initially thought, but that he was never meant to be a really great guy, and that his romance with Clarke was just supposed to create drama and angst rather than be a great ship people would root for. (The whole thing with Raven really shows that.) Maybe I was too harsh on Thomas McDonell, though. He wasn't as good as some other cast members, but he's not that bad, now I have Tasya Teles' acting to compare it with. (I'm sure Tasya is a nice person, but she just can't act.) It's kind of funny that the climax of this episode is focused on Clarke and Bellamy being shocked at Charlotte's death in such a way that it seems like their child just died, and then arguing about leadership (it's already pretty clear that the two of them are those who decide on most things), as Finn just looks on. This may be the crucial moment where their co-leadership begins. Clarke argues "We don't decide who lives and who dies". It's so ironic that she will later during the show be expected and asked to decide just that, more than once. Meanwhile, on the Ark, we get to meet a couple of new characters - Kane's mother, a preacher, who'll be around for a couple of episodes, and Nigel, a woman at the Mecha station who runs a black market, and who, I think, won't ever appear again. But she gets Abby arrested by Kane, and also, through her, we get to learn more about Raven's backstory - that her mother was an alcoholic and that she used to prostitute herself to get stuff. Life on the Ark, especially those of lower classes, seems so freaking wonderful... The last few minutes of this episode initially annoyed me a lot, because it seemed like a return to the cheesy teen soapy bullcrap of the first couple of episodes. The love triangle was set up - Raven takes the pod by herself, since Abby can't go, and is arriving to Earth, while we get a confirmation that Finn is the boyfriend she wants to save - just as Finn and Clarke end up kissing and having sex for the first time. Now that I know and love how this triangle is eventually resolved, I don't hate this so much, but this scene is still really cheesy and feels like the classic TV insta-romance. And it's not just that, I also hated the scene where Octavia kisses Jasper, after praising his courage (for "standing up to a bully" -? I still have no idea what she was referring to, it's always confused me) and telling him that heroism gets rewarded. Ugh. And then Monty gives him a high-five. One of the things I hate the most in fictional romance is when romance/sex is portrayed as a reward that someone - usually a female - gives another person - usually a male, for performing heroic deeds. Gross. I'm so relieved, because of that, that the Jasper/Octavia ship went nowhere, even though I wasn't a big fan of how her romance with Lincoln was portrayed in S1, either.

SEASONS OF LOVE CHALLENGE - Bloom of Spring

Hey guys so a new season is upon us so here is the 3rd part of Season of Love. This time we will be focusing on spring.

Each part of the challenge will run for almost 3 months - to fit the season. This time I decided to add the option of getting a gif/picture prompt for another fandom than spn. Song and Word prompts are still strictly for SPN fans and if you wanna write for another fandom you have to run the pairing by me first since it is far from all I’d be willing to read.

If you are gonna need an extension when we near the end of the challenge or need to drop out just let me know. If you don’t turn in your fic on time and you haven’t kept in touch, you will be banned from all my future challenges.

Happy #TheLastofUs day. Watching the shit out of episode 3 on HBO Max tonight. Watching it so hard.

Ever hear of a #McGuffin in the film industry? A “McGuffin” is an object that the plot revolves around, like the ring in #LordoftheRings, or the infinity stones in the #Avengers movies. In songwriting, names are like McGuffins. It’s really convenient to pick a name and then write a song that revolves around it.

#Hannah is the first of many song titles on GoBoy 5, 6 and 7 that are named after girls. Some of them are real, some of them are arbitrarily selected. I never dated a Hannah, though I did have a serious crush on a Hannah when I was in elementary school, and she knew it.

Gotta admit, I think it’s pretty funny seeing three or more tracks on the same album with different girl names.

Came up with the chorus while eating #ChipsAhoy original cookies at work and dealing with a shipment that was damaged in transit. The event is burned into my memory. Paper pusher life for the win.

Speaking of The Last of Us, I was introduced to the source material while mixing vocals for “Hannah” back in August, 2020, by watching @thaRadBrad play through both games. Needless to say, my mind was blown. While mixing songs, something entertaining is always playing in the background for extra brain stimulation, whether that be a movie, tv series, a video game play through, podcast, etc. Anything but music, because I can’t mix music while listening to other music (explained in post 87).

After recording and mixing the vocals, they weren’t meshing with the instruments (that’s my issue with developing instruments prior to mixing vocals), so I muted the instruments and started from scratch. Minimalistic instruments are what this song needed in the end, mostly consisting of tom drums and distorted synth.

It was around this time (midway through GoBoy 5) that GoBoy’s production process changed so that instrument tracks would be created AFTER the vocals were mixed. That way, I could ensure that the beat and instruments meshed with the vocals. After all, in GoBoy songs, the melody is the most important part, and the instruments only exist to support it. This new production process would be used for every song on GoBoy 6 and beyond (excerpts from post 87).

“Hannah” was restructured six months after it’s original release. The final chorus was deleted, leaving only two choruses, and an instrumental section was added between the 1st verse and 2nd chorus. These adjustments gave the song more replay value. Far less annoying.

Jung Joon Young took part in Mnet’s musical program “Superstar K4” and finished in third place.

Jung Joon Young was born in Indonesia, but raised in China, Japan, Europe (England and France) and the Philippines

He went to South Korea without his family’s knowledge at the age of 19 and assembled his own band “Flowermist” (later “Switch-on”).

He took private lessons for regular subjects such as math, English, violin, and piano and he got his fourth degree black belt in Taekwondo.

Jung Joon Young went to the Philippines to do missionary work. While teaching music to the local children, he started his dream to be a rock star.

He was a member of the choir which performed in front of the (former) president of the Philippines, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Jung Joon Young was inspired by Freddie Mercury (Queen), Kurt Cobain (Nirvana), Hyde, and K.A.Z (Vamps), and by the “grunge” genre such as Nirvana.

In 2015, Jung Joon Young debuted a rock band, ‘Jung Joon Young Band’ (JJY Band).

2021 NFL MOCK DRAFT - 7 ROUNDS/FINAL

April 29, 2021

ROUND ONE

1. Jacksonville – QB Trevor Lawrence, Clemson

The distance between Trevor Lawrence and the rest of this field is vast. We haven’t seen such an obvious #1 overall pick since Andrew Luck.

2. NY Jets – QB Zach Wilson, BYU

With the trade of Sam Darnold, the Jets are ready to start anew with Zach Wilson, a man possessed with rare gifts that need to be honed before he’ll be an effective pro.

3. San Francisco (FROM MIA THRU HOU) - QB Mac Jones, Alabama

The Niners sent 2 picks this year and future first-rounders to move up here – and it’s clearly because they’re comfortable taking one of the guys they consider to be this year’s 3 top quarterbacks. He might not start immediately, but Jones is the future in San Fran. The question is: do the Niners send Garoppolo back home to New England?

4. Atlanta - TE Kyle Pitts, Florida

I know it’s fashionable to have the first four picks go QB-QB-QB-QB, but I’m bucking the trend here. Atlanta opts to roll with Ryan for one more year as they swing for the fences with Kyle Pitts. I’m not I’ve ever seen a tight end drafted this high, but he’s really more of a matchup-nightmare slot receiver.

5. Cincinnati – OT Penei Sewell, Oregon *

Joe Burrow badly needs protection, and this year’s best left tackle prospect falls to them. Sewell has a little growing up to do before he becomes a legit pro, but he’s got elite tools for the position and his college career was practically without blemish.

6. Miami (FROM PHI) - WR Ja’Marr Chase, Missouri

As Adam Schefter tweeted, “Dolphins now have basically turned their former LT Laremy Tunsil who they traded to Houston into four first-round picks and a third-round pick.” If Miami wins a Super Bowl in the next 3 years, these maneuvers will be legendary. And they might not be done! Plenty of teams will want to get ahead of Detroit for the remaining QBs. But here, the Dolphins get exactly what they needed: the best WR coming out this year.

7. Detroit - QB Justin Fields, Ohio State

The Lions can’t possibly be sold on Jared Goff as their unchallenged starter. He can certainly serve as a very, very expensive bridge QB to Justin Fields… but it probably won’t take a whole year for Detroit to turn to Fields as their QB of the future.

8. Washington (PROJ. TRADE W/CAR) - QB Trey Lance, North Dakota State

With the acquisition of Sam Darnold from the Jets, Carolina won’t use this pick for a QB anymore. Washington head coach Ron Rivera uses his old Panthers connections to secure the #8 pick to snag Trey Lance. Dan Snyder may never learn.

9. Denver - CB Patrick Surtain II, Alabama

The Broncos used to have amazing depth at the cornerback position. No longer. It’s time to build that defense back up. With the additions of Surtain plus Kyle Fuller and Ron Darby, a weakness becomes perhaps the strongest group in the league.

10. Dallas - LB Micah Parsons, Penn State

Dallas just misses out on their dream pick: Pat Surtain. They consider trade offers but instead look to replace Sean Lee (and perhaps eventually Leighton Vander Esch, who has fallen out of favor).

11. Minnesota (PROJ TRADE W/NYG) - OT Rashawn Slater, Northwestern

The Vikings package picks (1st and 3rd) to grab a potential great one at left tackle. They’ve got one more year to try to protect Kirk Cousins and convince themselves he was worth the investment. They’ll need to get ahead of Philadelphia to secure Slater.

12. Philadelphia (FROM SF THRU MIA) – WR Jaylen Waddle, Alabama +

The Eagles keep acquiring wide receivers, and none of them seem to deliver the reliability they need. If Waddle can come back 100% healed from his 2020 injury, he could be the one they’ve been waiting for. Jalen Hurts should be happy to have Waddle in town.

13. LA Chargers - WR DeVonta Smith, Alabama

With Mike Williams heading into his contract year, the team prepares for life without his services. DeVonta Smith is smaller than ideal, but that’s just about the only knock on him. The Chargers will wait until the next round to take their left tackle; it’s a deep position this year.

14. NY Giants (PROJ TRADE W/MIN) - DE Jaelan Phillips, Miami + *

The Giants move back a few spots and still secure help for their pass rush. Phillips had a great 2020. He’s got an injury history and immaturity issues to deal with, but the Giants think his upside is worth the risk.

15. Las Vegas (PROJ. TRADE W/NE) - CB Jaycee Horn, South Carolina

The Patriots have a tradition of trading down in the first round, so this is not a surprise. They want to get back the 3rd round selection the NFL stripped from them, and that’s what they receive from Las Vegas. The Raiders have to move ahead of Arizona to select the speedy corner Jaycee Horn.

16. Arizona - RB Najee Harris, Alabama

The Cardinals were really hoping Jaycee Horn fell to them. They fill a different hole in their roster with the selection of Najee Harris, just what this offense needs to get them to the next level.

17. New England (PROJ. TRADE W/LV) - DE Kwity Paye, Michigan

New England drops back a few spots, picks up a 3rd rounder, and takes the guy they were targeting all along. Kwity Paye is apparently an inspiring leader in the locker room; he’ll be wearing a “C” on his chest in no time. He’s also a hell of a lineman.

18. Miami - OLB/DE Azeez Ojulari, Georgia

The Dolphins went offense with pick #1 in this round; they’ll address the defensive pass rush here. Ojulari can play outside linebacker in any scheme, and Brian Flores will love that versatility.

19. Carolina (PROJ. TRADE W/WAS) - G/OT Alijah Vera-Tucker, USC

The Panthers move down quite a bit and still land the best interior lineman of 2021. Ali will likely upgrade one of the guard spots immediately – or he could serve as an essential swing lineman at 4 positions as a rookie with a bright future. Carolina gets from Washington picks 19, 51, 82 and a 1st in 2022.

20. New Orleans (PROJ TRADE W/CHI) - CB Caleb Farley, Virginia Tech +

New Orleans tried to get even higher – to select Pat Surtain or Jaycee Horn. Instead they settle for Caleb Farley, the last of the blue-chip corner prospects this year. His medical concerns can be overlooked. The Bears get picks 28, 98 and 105.

21. Indianapolis - OT Christian Darrisaw, Virginia Tech +

With the retirement of Anthony Castonzo, the Colts superb offensive line got a lot weaker. They’ll need Darrisaw’s help to protect a risk-taker like Carson Wentz. His recently-reported groin injury may make him a draft-day slide though.

22. Tennessee – OLB/DE Jayson Oweh, Penn State

The Titans signed Bud Dupree to play across from Harold Landry, but bringing in a developmental prospect like Oweh is too tantalizing to pass up. His low college production is a huge question mark, but his measurables make him worth the risk here.

23. NY Jets (THRU SEA) - RB Travis Etienne, Clemson

The Jets can go in all sorts of directions here. They need damn near every position. But Etienne is too tantalizing to pass up. He showed at his pro day that his heavy workload in college didn’t slow him down at all. He’s got elite speed for the position, and the Jets need that burst and receiving ability if they want to get out of the gutter.

24. Pittsburgh - OT/G Jalen Mayfield, Michigan

The gaping holes along the Steelers’ once-vaunted offensive line are going to be hard to patch up quickly. Mayfield has his detractors, but he’s clearly the best remaining left tackle prospect.

25. Jacksonville (THRU LAR) - LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Notre Dame

He’s a bit on the small side but Owusu-Koramoah is explosive with above-average instincts. Jacksonville should be taking the best-available from here on out; they need just about every position.

26. Cleveland - LB Zaven Collins, Tulsa

Cleveland is more than ready to take the next step, but they’ve been getting by on sub-standard linebacking talent. Time to address that crew with a monster in the middle.

27. Baltimore - WR Rashod Bateman, Minnesota

The Ravens never seem to hit paydirt with their many, many attempts to draft a star wide receiver. They’ll try again with Bateman. His famously wide catch radius will help Lamar Jackson as he’s on the move.

28. Chicago (PROJ TRADE W/NO) - DT Christian Barmore, Alabama

The Bears pick up two third-rounders in their deal with New Orleans. They land the best interior defensive lineman coming out this year. Barmore might not have eye-popping numbers in college, but he’s another Daron Payne in the making.

29. Green Bay - CB Greg Newsome II, Northwestern

Kevin King was retained, but he had a few really rough outings in 2020. Jaire Alexander is one of the best corners in the league, but the team could use some help while he’s on an island.

30. Philadelphia (PROJ TRADE W/BUF) - CB Tyson Campbell, Georgia

Philadelphia doesn’t want to come away from the first day without a quality corner. They see Newsome come off the board and feel they have to trade back into the bottom of the first round to get their guy. Campbell has amazing catch-up speed – no one is getting by this guy. The Eagles give up picks 37, 84 and WR J.J. Arcega-Whiteside).

31. Baltimore (FROM KC) – DE Greg Rousseau, Miami

The Ravens can take a risk on Rousseau’s upside. It’s been a while since he played a meaningful game – and he looked quite average at his Pro Day – so there are legit questions about Rousseau’s ability. But when he was starting for the Hurricanes, he looked like a top-ten pick.

32. Tampa Bay - LB Jamin Davis, Kentucky

The Bucs have no pressing immediate needs on their team. None! All they need to do is build for the future. Lavonte David is on the back-end of his career, so Jamin Davis could be an interesting addition here. Davis could perhaps challenge for a starting spot immediately, but he’s more likely going to be part of a rotation to keep Lavonte’s legs fresh and prolong his career a bit.
