Hey TMA2 kickstarter backers?
Please, please, please don’t expect TMA themed dice when adding the “Rusty Quill Gaming Dice Set” by RQ and Dice Dungeon, as an add-on to your kickstarter backing.
There are no official TMA themed dice.
The dice set on offer, created in cooperation by Dice Dungeon UK, is the commemorative end-of-show merch for Rusty Quill’s first ever podcast.
It’s name was “Rusty Quill Gaming”, which might cause confusion since they’re now available on the TMA kickstarter, as "Rusty Quill Gaming” could be interpreted to mean “Rusty Quill themed gaming merch”, rather than being the name of a separate podcast.
Rusty Quill Gaming was an Actual Play podcast of Pathfinder (like DnD, but open source).
The campaign, GMed by Alex (Martin Blackwood in TMA), was titled “Erasing the Line” and ran for 7 years. The main campaign has 218 main-story episodes, a bunch of side quests, three epilogues, and there are many other bonus episodes on the feed.
RQG was, like I said, Rusty Quill’s first ever podcast and the reason RQ exists in the first place! If you listen to it, you’ll get some baked-in TMA ads in the first season’s episodes as they were getting ready to release it! (Nothing quite compares to listen to a fun Christmas special featuring Spice Girls themed goblins and then having Jonathan Sims, Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute, complain about non-digitiseable statements...)
RQG is truly amazing and features TMA-stars Lydia Nicholas (Melanie King in TMA) and Ben Meredith (Elias Bouchard in TMA) as incredibly talented roleplayers, alongside Helen Gould (Enthusigasm and Melanie’s Therapist Laverne in TMA), Bryn Monroe (the Science guy from the Stellar Firma Feed and one of the MAG100 statement givers) and James Ross (fantastic stand-up comedian and also a MAG100 statement giver).
Give it a listen to, if you’re into found family, bickering, adventures, steampunk, comedy, heartfelt dialogue, wordplay, good times, any of these voice actors... just go listen to it, it’s worth it!
The dice are inspired by these players and characters. So while some of the icons may be connectable to TMA - and we all know how much the TMA Fandom loves redstringing - they are actually unrelated.
By all means, get the dice if you want them! I have preordered them months ago when they were first advertised and am very much looking forward to having them in my hands despite the additional delay.
I just don’t want anyone to think that these are TMA-themed dice and then get disappointed.

I, L, U <3
For the ask game!
I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?
Honestly, at this point I'm almost entirely out of the BG3 fandom by choice because.... well, as you will well know my love, there is a lot of fuckery out there. But I am a fandom old at this point and am a lot more reticent to expose myself to wider fandom than I used to be. But the BG3 fandom on here was starting to make me dislike characters who I truly loved on my first playthrough, so that was sign I needed to step back before I started resenting the game as a whole.
Also, the Our Flag Means Death fandom made me not watch season 2, but they're really going through it right now so I'm a bit more sympathetic than I used to be.
L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves.
Hamid from RQG has the potential for a great amount of growth, kindness and true friendship as he gets older, but he needs to earn it, it will take time, and it will be hard.
(Is that nice enough? I don't know)
U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.
Oscar Wilde from Rusty Quill Gaming - will come as a surprise to no one, but I love this man and I love his growth and I love him getting to be loved how he deserves. I love my bitchy sassy magic man. I love writing him and giving him joy.
G'raha Tia from FF14 - both young and old, all at once. Facilitated the saving of the world, twice. A massive dork who loves books, and a man who can inspire and lead an army if necessary. I will never stop adoring this silly man and his flicky ears and his inability to ever be chill about anything.
Karlach from BG3 - I know I talk a lot about the elf, but she truly made my first playthrough so special, and I want to give her the world. She's suffered so much but doesn't allow it to change how much she loves people. She's so delighted to be alive, living every day to its fullest, and going out on her own terms (in my canon). She is my wife, and I will always adore her.

Super Suits
I just finished listening to the fourth episode of Super Suits, and I have to say I love it.
Harper Hallow is a treasure and is to be protected at all costs.
Bonnie and Collette are the sassy ladies in the office we all wish we worked with, and were a great way to introduce the law firm without dropping Harper directly into the weirdness without giving them any kind of warning.
Aside from the vampirism, Malcom Aria seems to be the basic Ben Meredith character. He's tired, grumpy, and probably doesn't take care of himself, and is the one running the show.
They just introduced Malcom's brother, Phil, as played by Tim Meredith, and I absolutely adore the dynamic between the two of them. Mal and Phil do not get along to a point where Harper had to warned that they might have to bail Mal out of jail at some point.
I don't know how many of you guys have listened to Stellar Firma or the RQG specials where Tim Meredith guest-starred, but if you put the Meredith brothers together in the same room as a microphone, the results tend to be chaotic, and this is no exception.
They also let the narrator (whose name is not, surprisingly, a variation of John) and Malcom interact, and the two do not like each other. When Harper asks Malcom why he keeps glaring at the stenographer, Malcom simply replies, "He knows what he did." And, of course, the dislike is not only returned, but is passive-aggressive right up to the point when Malcom decked him.
At this point, I can't wait to see where this goes.

Rules: Go to your published works on AO3 and list the first fic you ever published there, the last fic you published, any fic that you wrote for a fandom/ship only once, your favorite fic you wrote in the fandom/ship that has the most works, the fic you wish more people read, the fic you agonized over the most, the fic that sprang fully formed from your mind without any effort, and a work you are proud of—for whatever reason.
First fic published on Ao3: House of Red Dreaming, a post-S4 Whitechapel fic following the detectives as they attend a remote team-building session which was definitely haunted. Intended to be the first in a series which would resolve the Louise Iver arc. Baby Duck was ambitious.
Last fic published: A Village Built on Bones, a Midsomer fic in which Barnaby & Winter investigate the murder of a gothic horror author. Not entirely sure when I'll be able to update it, what with Whumptober and NaNo coming up, so it's languishing a bit on the to-do list. Adult Duck is. also ambitious.
Fandom/ship I only wrote once: There are a few of these, but I'm going with Pyre (in which Owen has fire trauma) because frankly only having written once for Parkdale Haunt is an error I'm hoping to correct.
Favorite fic in most popular fandom/ship: Assuming the most popular ship I've written for is TMA's Jon/Martin (which I've not checked, but. it's Jon/Martin), Autumn, in which Martin is Missing Presumed Gone and Jon has feelings about it. It was the first Jon/Martin fic I wrote and a friend told me it made them cry at their workplace, which is the kind of review I'm proud of.
Fic I wish more people read: Going to go with Firelight's Edge/Paper Boats, in which a traumatised Nelson returns to Midsomer but can't quite make it home, and Winter tries to help while ignoring his rapidly-developing crush. Because it's my most Winter/Nelson fic so far and presumably if more people read it, that would mean that there were more people thinking about my pool noodle ship, and the more people think about the ship, the higher the odds of someone else also writing for it? This is how maths works, right? Also I think the fic's pretty good.
Fic I agonized over: I have 107 fics posted and I don't think there's a single one I didn't agonise over. So. All of them. Especially the ones I didn't post. For the purposes of this, though, between the dark and firelight, a RQG fic following Tjelvar, Edward and Carter as they're hired to seek an artefact that could bring magic back to the world. Big Bang fics are always agonising, trying to strike the balance between The Vision (TM) and what you have the time and ability to write, and this one had the additional difficulty of dealing with characters who were deeply traumatised in ways that made them behave badly towards others (and trying to treat that sensitively), while also trying to contain an adequate quest and romance arc. Might just be a case of "most recently quite agonising", though.
Fic that popped out fully-formed: prooobably blood on the beach and a wreck in the water, currently my only fic for The Secret of St Kilda, feat. Lockie hiding an injured Matthias post-S1, because if I don't see the body there's no MCD, and good luck with that in an audio medium, okay? I'd been struggling with writing and then I was poking bits of this out on my phone and the words came easily and felt good as I was writing them which. never happens. I'm scared to look at it again in case it isn't as good as I remember thinking it was.
Fic I'm proud of: uhhhhhh proud of things I've written isn't really a state that comes to me naturally but I guess I'll take In Sunlight, in which Edward searches for Tjelvar after escaping Rome. Ed/Tjelvar is a very special ship to me, as it started off as just me and two people who are now some of my fondest friends, one of whom worked with me on this fic as my Big Bang artist. It was one of two RQBB fics I wrote that year (we've since changed the rules not to let people do this because it turns out it's a fast-train to burnout, who would have thought?), so I'm kind of baffled that I finished it, and it had a great response for what will always in my head be a rarepair (though apparently has 88 works now? wild). The (69) comments assure me the fic is good which is very nice of them.
No-pressure tags for @an-anonymous-friend, @badgerhuan, @icescrabblerjerky, @kd-heart, @pjmarvell <3 also anyone else who sees this and would like to do it pls take this as a tag for you

Did I literally start crying when I realised Barnes (and probably Carter??) was dead? Yes. Did I cry harder when I realised how little time he had with Cel? Yes. But do I think that in the end he probably had the life he wanted, with people he wanted to spend it with? Yes, and honestly at least Alex let him be okay.

My #1 post of 2022
OK but, TMA entity inspired theme park divided into different sections based on the entities.
If you enter from the main guests, you’ll first see the Eye, which has a dark ride inspired by Jonah Magnus’s house, and a museum of oddities where visitors can give statements.
The Lonely has a forest garden, so big that you could walk for hours and see only your reflection on the lake.
On the opposite side of the lake, every night, the Desolation hosts a firework show that ends in an illusion of setting the lake on fire, and a coaster through the forest as you flee a blaze.
Cutting through the middle of the park, split into two halves, is the Food Corridor.
The front half is both a parent’s dream and their nightmare, themed to the corruption, it’s all unhealthy sweets, doughnuts and the kind of dubious cafe food that makes you wonder if it’s made of plastic, but there’s also loads of stuff about learning about bugs, like a butterfly garden, and a kids coaster called “Moths Flight.”
The second is themed to the Flesh. It sells a lot of meat products (obviously) and is probably sponsored by KFC. There’s probably a few carnival games themed to the bone gardens and stuff, as well as a dark ride about the human body and a shop offering piercings, those plastic body halloween props and bone flower models.
The Hunt and Slaughter share a section, and it definitely attracts a lot of thrill seekers. There’s loads of coasters including one of those duel ones so you’re trying to catch/escape the other track called “beasts” and a kid’s playground with mass games of laser tag, hide and seek and manhunt overseen by staff members.
The Dark and End’s section tends to blend together, featuring a space mountain style ride for the dark, a graveyard dance 4D experience that sells fake death certificates from the End, and special shows on Eclipses. The Dark also has a shooter where you ‘turn off’ the stars.
The Stranger’s section is split across the food corridor, with the small section being more adult. There’s a coaster where the idea is you’re running from a killer clown, and year round 16+ horror maze with a similar premise. The other section is for kids. There’s a two story carousel, a massive circus, a wax museum and a few kid’s coasters. It probably also has a bounce house.
The Vast and Buried are next to each other. On the overlap between the two opposed entities is a dive coaster similar to Alton Towers’ Oblivion, where riders plunge from a vertical drop into an underground section, though both sections last longer than AT’s one.
The Vast has a massive aquarium, one of those spinning swing rides, a log flume and a drop tower.
The Buried has a mine train that really goes underground, a massive sandpit just called ‘DIG’ and a zoo exhibit with mongoose or meerkats where you can walk through the underground part of the exhibit and see the tunnels they did in a large, clear tunnel.
The Web is one of the smaller sections, with only a puppet show that runs twice an hour for twenty minutes, hosted in a theatre that looks like a run down old house on the top of a hill. In the same building is ARACHNID ENCOUNTER, a shooter ride where you shoot spiders.
The Spiral has a maze and hall of mirrors, as well as a downward corkscrew coaster just called ‘spiral’ and some other carnival rides designed to be just vomit inducing.
The smallest section of the park is fenced off, but promises to ‘TORMENT YOU SOON’ and is rumoured to be extinction themed. No one knows much about planned attractions, just the titles: one called meteor people think will be a family coaster and an experience called ‘After Us’ sponsored by the Lukas Corporation.
At the center of the park, flanked by a hotel, is Smirke Square. It hosts a market, impermanent carnival rides, and a large stage. On this stage, every morning at 6 hotel guests can watch the park be opened to a ritual, and every evening at 10 anyone can watch the closing ceremony of a counter ritual that shuts the park down for another day.

Love in a Time of Hardship: An Anthology of Zolf Smith/Oscar Wilde Fanfiction
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Binding, cover design, and layout by me. Bound with hand-dyed variegated linen thread using a variation on a long stitch binding I designed myself. Here’s what’s inside:
At Your Convenience by @holoxam
A really lovely, intimate post-campaign fic in which Zolf and Wilde are in a QPR and don’t need to talk about it, thank you very much. I love this fic, it’s such a wonderful little slice of life and captures their dynamic so perfectly.
Would You Cast Me to the Wayside by lily_rainn
An incredibly thoughtful and humane depiction of Zolf and Wilde negotiating the beginning of their relationship. Neither of them have the vocabulary to fully understand what’s happening, but they’re trying so hard because they care so much about each other, and it’s just great.
The most dangerous thing is to love by @makesometime
An ancient Greek gods AU that’s just unbelievably good. makesometime seamlessly weaves Greek mythology into the RQG world all while not just maintaining perfect characterization, but actually elevating these characters to match the beautiful world she created.
Wake up by @makesometime
Zolf waiting for Wilde to wake up post-ep.177. This was the first RQG fic I ever read, and it’s very, very special to me. Zolf is so painfully tender and anxious, and it makes my heart ache every time.
Inevitable by Miri1984 / @icescrabblerjerky
“Post 177 Zolf and Wilde have sex and feelings,” really the most succinct way of putting it. Such an intense distillation of all my feelings about Zoscar!
What We Worship by Miri1984 / @icescrabblerjerky
AU where Wilde dies in the airship crash and doesn’t get better. Really wonderful worldbuilding for the RQG-universe afterlife, and so beautifully written and poignant.
The Right Questions by @newsbypostcard
Just two complicated and emotionally-repressed dudes negotiating their relationship after one of them rescues the other from death. Fuck, the characterization in this fic is so good. A prime example of why fic is so often better than canon.
Small Intimacies by @newsbypostcard
Zolf and Wilde go to bed and have a conversation. That’s it, that’s the fic, and it’s the single greatest “mortifying ordeal of being known” fic I have ever read. It's the kind of story I dream about finding, one that teaches me more about characters I love and illustrates exactly why they mean so much to me. A perfect fic, easily one of my favorite fics of all time.
Until We Meet Again by @queercore-curriculum
Zolf and Wilde cross paths after Zolf leaves Prague and while Wilde is still on the run from La Gourmand. Eh, I feel weird reccing my own fic, but I’m pretty proud of this one, actually.
Warm and Dry by @queercore-curriculum
Café AU where baker!Zolf teaches writer!Wilde how to bake bread. I had a lot of fun writing this, and if I can get my shit together I’ll finish writing the extended version, Coriander.
find your feet by @starstrung
Zolf and Wilde hide their relationship from Earhart aboard the Vengeance. I. LOVE. THIS. FIC. starstrung writes one of my all-time favorite Wildes, and this is an absolute delight to read. Zolf and Wilde often live in dark, angsty places, but this is just so joyful and fun and hot while still staying so true to character. I promise this fic will make your day brighter.
love is a sacrament by @starstrung
An 18-month time gap fic that’s just fucking perfect. Feat. an extra guarded Wilde (again, one of my all-time favorites) and an extra tender Zolf, and it’s so, so, so wonderful.
Woven Up by tuesdaycoming
A deep dive into Zolf’s backstory and his layers upon layers of grief. This fic just blew me away, brilliant worldbuilding and an absolute masterclass in showing-not-telling.
Absolutely Unlike Harrison Campbell by ZaliaChimera / @zalia
Zolf is bored and propositions Wilde to pass the time. This fic is very hot, but I also found it incredibly moving. ZaliaChimera takes a really unflinching look at these two very emotionally-repressed dudes that don’t particularly like one another and shows a different kind of intimacy than we often see in fic, one that’s a little rough around the edges and brutally honest.
Look, I may need to make a second Zoscar anthology, and another anthology of RQG mixed-bag ships--the RQG fandom is just so fucking talented. If you have any recs of your own, please send them my way!
More pics below the cut!

Spoilers for RQG 218
Having listened to the episode a few times and sat with it, I wanted to write down some thoughts about the end of RQG.
I liked the ending and how it connected back to a lot of stuff throughout the story. But I’m not sure I liked the introduction of another super hive mind? I think I would have rather them found the Tree and had to figure out what was going on and chosen destroy or leave it be? I’m not a huge fan of trying to talk to a being that can’t give straight answers because it’s beyond mortal comprehension, etc. Very on Zolf’s side there.
I’m fine with magic being gone. Based on the way magic and the planes were described as functioning before, it makes total sense. I also am fine that the characters didn’t realize that would happen because even if they managed to get that from Myriad, would that have changed their choice? It seems like the Tree/Myriad was a force in the universe that connected things but was corrupted or evolved into something else? So hopefully it’ll reset and the planes will reconnect and magic will come back. It’s a matter of how long that takes.
The shift from the fight to Myriad’s place was also jarring. I think it works, but overall, I would have preferred them to just finish the fight and then Babbage could have shifted them to the Tree. They were doing pretty well all things considered. I guess Babbage got exploded and that’s what sent Zolf there? What was Alex having Wilde do to help? What was that?
We did get a lot of nice character interaction too: Cel talking to Myriad, Zolf refusing to talk to Myriad, and Hamid accepting that taking a chance on becoming a powerful being wasn’t a good idea, etc. I appreciate that. (Let’s be honest though, one of them taking Myriad’s place would have been super interesting even if the outcome was the same).
And now they get to build something new. Maybe with magic, maybe without. These are characters that are strong enough to be who they are without magic.
I can live without all of the answers (that’s how things shake out in an RPG), but I’d love to get some more lore through metacasts or Q&As. I’m also really looking forward to all of the epilogues! I hope they’re coming out starting next week and we don’t have to wait until Jan due to a holiday special, but there isn’t any information out about that yet :/
Anyway, end babbling. Reply with your thoughts if you like?

I think the spire special of rqg definitely deserves more appreciation????? Like there are very few scenes that are more dramatic than [spoilers→] the fight between Ben's character and Jessca, with Alex's character shooting at Ben's character from the audience while also shooting at another sniper who's also shooting at Ben's character?????? With dramatic opera music and swordfighting sounds in the background????????? And the dramatic exit to train hell, with Ben's character and Jessca holding hands before he dies???????????? Truly a cinematic masterpiece

rqg 200
episode 200!!! it was such a fun one, I love how giddy everyone was and the whole extended intro, Ben’s comment about all rusty quill podcasts ending at episode 200 cracked me up
“playing is a construct” the entire ‘new listener’ bit and them referencing their early style made me laugh but i completely lost it at this part ashdfhs
Skraak rolling a 59??? on his stealth check??
Alex going all ‘the first square is free :)’ and Helen calling it a multilevel marketing scheme lol
I’m so glad the monsters started attacking each other behind the closed door, thank you Helen/Azu
the zombies were horrifying and i’m so glad their special ability never went off because of Azu’s prayer spell, Alex’s frustration and everyone just going ‘good’ was hilarious
Also: very glad Hamid and Zolf got out of the horde without attacks of opportunity, i do not want to think about how many hit points Hamid might have lost. Zolf would’ve been fine probably but hamid...
SPEAKING OF Ben just forgetting Alex killed one of his player characters before ahdslhfdsfs BEN
Cel’s bombs were A+++ thank you Cel, i’m glad the splash damage didn’t hit Hamid/Zolf like I was worried about
did they remember that the channel positive energy should also have healed them from the damage the horde did? they didn’t mention it and i’m worried
I’m very curious what’s with the surprisingly ornate staircase and the room in general, it seems like there may be some world building mystery stuff and I hope they’ll investigate a bit too instead of just rushing through
anyway, they all lived!! this was such a joyous episode, even if I was genuinely terrified one of the characters would die. I guess Alex was right about none of them having really come close to dying or being knocked out, but it definitely feels like with monsters at this level if they do get hit it’s immediately Bad so there’s still a sense of tension even if they end up, as Skraak put it, bossing it

RQG MOTW special gave us some of the best characters and my favourite found family
[ID: From left to right we see Betty, Sam and Cleo all facing front and pictured from the waist up. Betty is very pale and has short ginger hair, right above her shoulders, she is facing right, looking at Cleo with a soft concerned expression. She is wearing glasses and a dull brown jumper. Next to her is Sam, they are smiling with their mouth slightly open, looking at us, holding a rifle with their left hand which rests on their shoulder. They are white and have blond hair which is short but not too short, combed back but still messy. They wear an orange stripped shirt. Next to them is Cleo, she is softly looking down at Sam, a smirk in her face, she is a black woman who has a vertical scar on her left cheeck, her hair in an afro style with a red bandana, she also wears hoop earings and a grey jacket over a black shirt. End ID]

5, 12, + 20?? :)
5. Pick a character and make a prediction for their epilogue.
i pick azu and i say she becomes high priestess of aphrodite, dammit!!
12. Is there an episode you keep downloaded at all times, just in case you want to go back to it? If not, which episode would this be if you did?
hehe, i have nearly all the specials downloaded cause i need a bit of a breather sometimes. and i know this is not really in the spirit of the season (end) but i keep relistening to the thanes of beowulf special. it's just so unhinged. i also listened to 174 (impact) many times, just to torture myself, as a treat.
20. I’m a firm believer that everyone takes at least a little piece of every piece of media they consume away with them, to become a part of their lifestyle, or moral code, or even a part of themself. What will you take from Erasing the Line?
i'll just take the whole thing with me and relisten to all of it around 17 times, then tma for a bit and then back to rqg. i also now have very high standards regarding ap podcasts and am an extremely picky listener (hence, the relistening)

1, 3, 8?? 😊
1. What is that one moment from the show that you will find yourself thinking back to, intermittently, for years to come?
Oh. Guivres glassing Eiffel’s Folly. Something about that moment hit me so hard the first time I listened -- I think up until then I hadn’t fully comprehended the fact that the Meritocrats were fucking dragons, and that kind of final, destructive power shook me to the core and really illustrated the grand scale of this world Alex had created.
3. What was your favourite running joke, in or out of character?
Increasingly convoluted metaphors about Sasha's sneakiness my beloved! Also, the Soggy Admiral callbacks. And unclothed Zolf, of course, a classic!
(And shoutout to Ulf the Unremembered, though I don't think specials really count. That's probably the most rqg has made me laugh at one joke, though.)
8. What mystery do you really hope still gets resolved, and how do you predict that will happen?
Hades nonsense!!! Who really made Rome Like That? How did Hades get stuck between planes? How does this relate to the blue veins? Where does Persephone fit in? What’s the deal with the Cult of Hades?
I don’t really have a prediction other than that I think we will get answers of some form -- whatever “erasing the line” ends up meaning, I think it’s going to be linked to Hades’s domain of life and death, with a sprinkle of the line between man and machine. I can’t wait to find out!

The Line Is Erased: Day 24: SINGING THE SONG OF ANGRY MEN!
Hello there! This is the first time I write a RQG fic and it’s going to be…rusty (NO IT’S NOT A PUN). Since I don’t want to be depressing AF and I FUCKING KNOW MYSELF, I am going to choose to write from outsider’s PoV, with a teeny tiny group of characters that just happen to be around on the background.
Also, after writing the first one I realised how much this podcast motivates me to keep saying “yes” to my friends’ campaigns and that is always a good choice for many reasons, so this is homage to all of us, people playing as our always very particular characters and suffering because of dices and masters!
So…that is that.
Here is my contribution for Day 24: Paris + The crack in the ceiling bringing the house down (house might not be the most appropriate term), prompts given by @the-line-is-erased on Tumblr.
From now on, I found the perfect excuse to officially start my relisten of the show! HAHA! Well, at first it is going to be a bit silly: choosing an episode that cover at least one of the prompts to have it MORE THAN FRESH. This time, ep. 54. (I SWEAR I DIDN’T REMEMBER HOW EMOTIONAL ZOLF’S MORAL QUANDRUM GOT BY THE END, THAT MOMENT WAS SO GOOD).
Do forgive me for any possible screw-ups (as well as for my quick tipper, non-native speaker writer).
Allons-y!
TW: mentions of suicide
“Ok, we managed to use the special juice of Paris right before it went down…one wonders how that happened, uh. Man; that was almost as close as some uni deadlines…”
“For the last time Nym, don’t bring in university issues to my game. Also, the comment about the Paris supercomputer going down? A bit too meta.”
“I thought you loved meta Aurora.”
“Yes, but…never mind, we are just going to pretend nobody else heard your comment…you were talking to your Goddess, fine?”
“Do I have any saying?”
“NOPE.”
Nym blinked a couple of times, what has that been?
“Did you say something?” Tara inquired.
“Religious business” the rest of her party, one of the less religious groups one could ever wish to find, just pretended not to be cynical about it and they kept going on circles in the room, while deciding what to do next.
After a few eternal minutes, she stood up. She wasn’t about to go into the unknown without a good reason (she had never been the reckless type), but she was getting far too bored and, even though she hadn’t been previously speaking to her goddess, the paladin knew she would soon contact her and, maybe, this time she was the one that had to go after Nemesis.
She had a feeling about it.
She heard the sound of a dice; she knew her companions hadn’t caught up with what that sound meant (it wasn’t as if she was cent per cent sure herself), but she had learnt she was about to have the chance to be pretty sure about her suspicions (or not).
YES, Nemesis wanted her to go to…The Louvre? FOR REAL?!
She loved art, that much was true but, with that horrible crystal pyramid…If Vincent wasn’t cursed with not being able to appear in cities he had put his feet on while alive, he would likely kill himself again after seeing it.
She shrugged and decided to ask around whether someone wanted to come with her, since they were apparently doing nothing at all.
“Want to come to The Louvre? Might be important for the mission.”
Tara refused with a head movement.
“Agnes and I are staying, we think we might be able to work out what these texts refer to…” the vishkanya next to her nodded in agreement and gave them a thumbs up that tried (and failed) to not be kind of threatening.
Yorick, on the other side, was on their feet the moment she opened her mouth.
“I am sure the Paris scene will love me!”
“You sure? The city felt pretty empty for a week day…”
“For now” they smirked and she sighed as saying ‘it’s your grave you are digging’.  Then, she turned to Saulis, who immediately decided to join too.
After all, Paris felt like the perfect place to test-prove one of his home-made hustles, didn’t it?
                                                     ---------------------------------
Just as they were leaving the hotel, they felt as their legs froze on place, forcing them to turn back. Then, after a couple of minutes of confusion, they realised.
“Shit! We don’t actually know the city geography!”
They went to the concierge, who had the face of someone who had had to deal with someone not worth their likely low income.
“Hi, do you have a map of the city or something?”
“You know you are speaking French, right?”
Nym felt automatically upset, HOW DID THE CONCIERGE DARED TO DOUBT HER LANGUAGE ABILITIES.
“Of course I am; why would you ask such a question…pal?”
“Boy is fine (I guess…). It’s just…making sure, some…guests. Here you go” he handled them the map and they now felt capable of leaving the building.
She hated when her body decided not to respond correctly. Like on fights; why did she patiently wait until other people were doing whatever?
Dumb biology, she guessed.
                                    ---------------------------------
They lost Saulis when, after a pale woman clumsily tried to stole something from the market and a crowd imitated her act, every one of the street stopped paying attention to some locals of expensive firms that were, curiously enough, closed with extremely complex locks on them (the tiefling’s favourites).
He had some robbing to do.
Then, there they were; at the feet of the crystal pyramids
“Ugly” Yorick commented, and she nodded.
A gargoyle passed nearby and they both waved at it.
Then, Nemesis spoke to her and she started climbing the thing up to the top while Yorick just froze in place, too shocked to do anything.
Once on top, the dices’ sound appeared again.
“Shit. I guess I only make a small breach…”
“And only because you brought me chocolate cookies with almonds.”
“Aurora, your generosity knows no limits.”
“I am aware, shall we continue?”
“Yes, yes, I just had an idea…”
A lightbulb illuminated in Nym’s mind.
“Yorick! People were pretty mad on the streets; use the spelly-thingy to lure some of them here!”
“Why?”
“Just do it! They ought to climb this thing.”
                                          ---------------------------------
And so they did, the horrible crystal pyramid crumbling down; nobody truly noticing as revolts were filling the whole city.
“So…why wanted Nemesis to destroy that…thing?”
Nym dismissed her own answer with a hand gesture.
“Nothing important; she hated it and thought I had been asking for too many favours lately.”
                                            ---------------------------------
Extra notes for flavour: Nym is my character for a RPG my friend created (bless his patience and craftsmanship) that is right now in stand-by, though both Nyms share race, gender and some basic personality traits, they are kind of pretty different in any other possible aspect. (Gosh, now I want to ‘recover’ that campaign too…)
Yeah, I made the crystal pyramids already be there (and being only one). Why? Because I bloody hate them and WANTED TO CRUSH THEM TO THE GROUND.
Also, COOKIES TO RPG SESSIONS WITH FRIENDS SUPREMACY!
As usual, likes/kudos (depending if you are reading this on Tumblr or AO3), feedback and random comments ARE SO HIGHLY APPRECIATED.
The title of the story is from the song I listen to at least once a month (in its different variations) since December of 2012: “Do You Hear the People Sing?” from Les Mis. Without that musical, I wouldn’t have fallen in love with musical theatre, saved my life helping with my struggles, make me give “36 Questions” an opportunity, which lead into me thinking “ey, maybe listen to ONE podcast on Halloween 2020”, discover TMA, which made me recover completely the writer inside of me (which improved my mental state –and, therefore, also helped physically and socially-) and also got me into podcasts…as this one (NOW I CANNOT SCAPE, PLEASE DON’T HELP).
                                   -----------------
Also, thanks to the TMA discord channel that posted this prompts! You are lovely, gracias!
Long life and prosperity,
Marla

Other works from the cast of TMA
The magnus archives cast is filled to the brim with talented creatives with over pieces of work and more people should know about them.
First the obvious: rusty quill makes amazing stuff! MAG is magnificent but more people should get to know their other stuff. Im slowly getting through rusty quill gaming and its delightful. If you want to hear Lydia Nicholas (Melanie king) be a stabby knife woman again, listen to Ben Meredith's (Elias) soothing voice without having to simp over a literal murderer and Alex (Martin, director, big boss man) being chaotic this is just the place. I also cant recommend ehough listening to one-shots special episodes, my favourite one is when Sasha (Georgie) gms Helen (Laverne, Melanies therapist), Lydia (Melanie) and Lowrie (editor) as they play a very cheotic and quite horny rpg about being stuck on a cruise ship to Bermuda. The game is by Macguffin and co, Jonny's and Sasha's game company that i will talk about in depth further in the post.
Stella firma is another rusty quill podcast. It is made and stared by the Meredith brothers. I have yet to listen to alot of it but it includes tons of gender fuckery and chaos.
I haven't listened to any of outlanders yet, but i believe it shall be great like everything RQ makes.
RQ also has "Rusty quill streams" that streams in twitch and you can also find on YouTube. It is hosted and stars Mike leBeau (the iconic tim stoker) Nico ( vocal editor, gabe us the kiss). The streams are hilarious and make me want to get into gaming, it is also a great way to support RQ and also get to see content from other of their creators. Last week featured Anil helping Mike playing through dream daddy and it was glorious.
I would be surprised if any of the hardcore TMA fans haven't at least heard of the mechanisms. But just in case:
The mechanisms were a steampunk-cabaret-neo folk band that were active in 2010-2020. The premis of the band is that each of its members plays a mechanism, an immortal cyborg and they all travel together through the universe, singing and telling stories about the tragedies they encounter. Non other than the beloved Jonny Simms was there lead singer, Jonny de'vil, a space cowboy from new Texas. other familier people were band mates aswell, Frank Voss (Basira) is Ashes O'Riley, an arsonists with a bass guitar, Jessica law (nikola orsinov) as the toy soldier who sings and plays the mandolin, ukulele and a variety of other instruments. Tim ledsam (jorden the extinguisher) plays gunpowder tim, the allmother of gender envy that plays the guitar. The Band has four concept albums that tell full tales:
"once upon a time in space" that is a reiteration of classic fairy tales but with lesbians in space.
"Ulysses dies at dawn" that is based in greek mythology and is bluesy and jazzy and wonderful
"High noon over Camelot" which is rooted in the tales of king Arthur and the round table, but as a wild west spaghetti movie of sorts in space. It has a main trans character and i lovely poly relationship that i have yet to see better represented in other media.
And "the bifrost incident", based on Norse mythology in a "murderer on the Orient express" setting, lesbians in space and a non binary main character.
Other then that they have two albums that are made out of short stories, many of them a backstory for fhe characters named "tales to be told" and "tales to be told II". They also have a standalone song about frankinstein and a live recording of there final show, that includes a few new songs, lovely banter and a revision if some ot their older works.
I cannot recommend listening to them enough.
Macguffin and co is Jonny and Sasha's game company. They design micro settings for RPG that some are free and some are patreon exclusive. I have yet to play any of the games myself but read through all the ones available online and listened to the acctual play podcast episodes of them ("dusk hollow pd" on MAG and "not far to Bermuda" on rqg). The settings are thought out so well and the attention for details is amazing. Jonny and sasha also stream on twitch regularly and the streams are a delight.
Sasha also has a podcast with the one and only Jessica law called "Jane austentations" in which they watch together all the film adaptations of Jane Austen novels and review them. Sasha knows an awful lot about Jane Austen, Jessica doesn't, but she has a surprising amount of knowledge about period accurate plants. The podcast itself is hilarious and Sasha's and Jessica's dynamic is great. Sasha also runs a blog under the same name were you can find other reviews.
Speaking of Jessica law, she is a great musician and i love her music so much. All of her work is available on Spotify and on bandcamp, she has a concept album called "lovers and fighters" which is a masterpiece in my opinion and five other albums. Her storytelling abilities blow my mind every time and her voice is beautiful.
Fay Roberts, the voice behind daisy is a poet and spoken word artist. Their work is so good! I cant explain how wonderful it is. They made " the selkie: a song if many waters" that is a poetry collection/ story that they wrote and preformed on bandcamp, and its one of my favourite works if litreture ever, it is heartbreaking and mystical and beautiful and makes me sob very easily. They also have quite a bit of spoken word poetry published online, both on bandcamp and on YouTube and i can't recommend enough for you to go listening to it.
Please go check out these works! They are all a delight and you should go and support the wonderful people behind them!
Also, feel free to add to this post and also tell me if I missed anything.
