Before I go to bed too late…

… On the rerewatch, I wish Sara had had to learn about El being kidnapped. Bc if I’m gonna throw Neal under the ‘should have said something to Peter’ bus, I gotta throw her under as well, no special treatment. This is a massive case of young(er, in Mozzie’s case) people not considering the consequences of their actions. Despite the fact that Keller had Peter kidnapped, apparently no one considers he might target the Burkes again. ‘Ooooo he talked to Sara’ are you forgetting he’s well aware that the Burkes are your parents. Keller won’t try to touch Sara, she’ll beat his ass, but it’s easier to go after a civilian. Like this is literally no one considering the stress and harm they are causing the parents. Mozzie and Neal are being self centred, Sara, I don’t know, gets caught up in the romantics?

A running theme w/ Neal is that he rarely considers how his behaviour will effect those around him, and I feel like it’s esp clear w/ Peter and El. Maybe it’s the little kid in him, but he seems to take them for granted, likely not helped by Peter’s dedication to him and ability to manifest whenever he’s in trouble. Neal doesn’t think about Peter and El getting blow back from his shit and esp doesn’t register the danger he causes them early on—when something happens, he’ll come through, but he just… Doesn’t seem to take them into account sometimes and, like I said, not just on the ‘going after them to get to him’ angle but in the ‘they care about you and you being reckless is stressing them out and making it hard to trust you.’ It’s a lesson El, bless her heart, tries to give him multiple times but I think he… Doesn’t totally understand the implications. It’s not just that they could get hurt, literally or reputation-wise bc of him, it’s when he does reckless, impulsive shit it scares them, whether he’s putting himself in dangerous situations or keeping secrets and acting suspicious. Perhaps a better description would be he doesn’t realise how those effects change as they get closer—it becomes more personal for them. It’s more painful. That’s why I love s3 bc of the oblivious and sometimes intentional guilt slinging. Sure, Neal didn’t ask for this, but he also didn’t walk away, and he didn’t tell Peter the moment he found out. If he had, Peter might’ve kept Mozzie’s name out of it (and yeah, part of this is Mozzie being a bad influence, he’s lucky he’s likeable the rest of the time). It’s like my post about Honour Among Thieves; the reason Peter is suspicious is bc Neal is suspicious. In so many ways Peter throws himself all in on this and Neal just… Doesn’t reciprocate. And the more Peter cares about him, the more harsh the possible/apparent betrayals are. And Neal… Doesn’t seem to entirely clock that. Peter’s clearly out of sorts and overly emotional about the whole thing, and Neal’s initial response is being all shocked Peter ‘turned against him,’ just keeps trying to deflect suspicion. Predominately thinks Peter is going after it just bc he’s Peter, doesn’t seem to realise Peter is so obsessed w/ this bc it’s personal, bc to Peter this is not just a crime but a massive, very personal betrayal. Again, it’s Mozzie and Alex and Adler’s influence, but Neal just… Doesn’t seem to get how badly lying and deceiving can hurt people. It’s not just that he’d do it, Peter acknowledges early it could have been Mozzie or Alex who actually pulled the theft, it’s that Neal would keep it from him, outright hide it from him, and participate in the plan to run at all. It’s that Neal doesn’t tell him things until it’s critical, that’s why he’s so cagey during s4. Bc he loves him. And I don’t think Neal really gets that that’s love? I dunno, I’m rambling now, but while his relationship w/ Ellen was sweet, I think it’s telling of how he turned out that she acts like Peter was in the wrong for arresting Neal, too. Most of the people around Neal enable and/or encourage his reckless and more self centred behaviour, even the ostensible parental figure; Peter and El are the first ones to hold him to a higher standard not based on allowance or conning, as Peter says, trying to help him be the man they think he can be, give him a future where he doesn’t have to run all the time. What started as more a matter of convenience and fondness goes into them being full blown invested in helping this kid change his life. They’re the first ones to care about him and just. Be there, even when he makes being there really hard. They are literally his parents. And maybe partially he’s not used to having parents this invested in him but… Look, I’ve lost my train of thought but it’s like he sees some levels of consequences, but not all and not the right ones. Expects a level of separation that’s no longer there and doesn’t always realise the everyday pain he causes w/ his behaviour, and doesn’t seem to realise how much not knowing hurts, and definitely doesn’t always think about the fact that they’re intense connection to him makes them even bigger targets.

And he really doesn’t get the stress his improvisation and wonton nonsense put Peter through on a regular basis. Like how does Peter even sleep at night having to put up w/ that?? It’s no wonder her wants to put a tracking anklet on the second kid, Neal’s gotta be responsible for every single grey hair on his head and a few counts of high blood pressure. How has this man not had a heart attack yet, I would be dead.

#White Collar #Neal is such a weird study #like he's a fully functioning adult mentally and physically and all that #but on some levels like emotionally I think he kinda stalled out at eighteen from running away #so he's the uncontrolled impulsivity of a badly raised teenager w/ the mind of an adult #he's a big boy who needs to deal w/ the consequences of his choices #and ESP needs to learn about dealing w/ people #for a guy so charming his social skills are actually shit #and he's clearly not used to being really held accountable #people like Mozzie and Alex encourage his more uncontrolled behaviour and antics #they think of him as a good conman but neither of them care for being a 'good person'#neither are monsters but they're selfish and they encourage Neal to be selfish #Adler's just a terrible role model James is also right out #his mother mighta been okay but she wasn't really around #Ellen was there at least but I don't think she was really holding him accountable either #but Peter and El do #they care enough to want him to be better to be the person that's definitely in there somewhere #and when he screws that over there are and should be consequences #and Neal's… both not used to facing consequences and not used to other people facing his consequences #at least not having to witness it #that's why I also love 3x12 bc Peter TALKS about that #how Neal gets away w/ things bc he's 'Neal'#fortunately in this case I think having El kidnapped AND having to watch Peter go through he kidnapping was a good scare #it's horrible but it was a wakeup call #like I mentioned in another tag if anything happened to either of them it's a double whammy #bc not only would he lose one he'd have to watch the OTHER go through it #like Neal cares about all his friends and coworkers even if he's bad at it sometimes #but I think Peter and El become something esp precious and important to him #like see my analysis that what Neal REALLY wants is his parents back #he still has the little kid dream of having a loving family

I dont think these fanon takes are a minor thing, I think its more of a cql thing, if people have watched the drama first/only, their perspective is heavily influenced by it, its no fault of the actors but the script heavily does change stuff, WWX is made to cry 82 times in cql? In novel its 2 at most, JZXs death and when he returns from the dead, his resilience trait is..gone. Jiang Wanyin is shown as soft instead of brash/impulsive that he is, JYL has a fixation on family stuff 1/2

Which is more subtle in the novel, to remove WWX remembering LWJ in burial mounds they add lotus pond scenes, this instead shows that WWX missed 'home' or 'regretted' his actions, in novel he never once did, he wasn't bitter/guilty because he knew he was in the right, and Wens were grateful to him, the public hanging of Wens??? I mean, the whole arc was what rumor mongering does, no one knew they were innocent people because this was hidden from them, people like LXC and NMJwouldNOTstandforit2/?

What is up with Mian Mian being from a bigger sect when she worked hard in a smaller sect to gain a high position and then discarded it for righteousness? ? What about JZX? His arc has him an only child thus influence on his pompous behaviour, and he steps up to save Mian Mian 'daughter of a servant' not his close friend, it highlights him not care about status when looking at people, and sure JWN throw the person down the cliff your sister died saving, what a way to honor her sacrifice 4/?

How they changed JWN into a 'soft' person (with emotional scenes on screen)when he is brash/impulsive fixation on yunmeng trio, JYL with family, WWX never regretted his decision, ever, hes in the right thats why, he doesn't throw the seal into the crowd, he dies from the backlash of destroying the seal because of the very reason he knows they'll use it to harm others which he didnt want. It seems more like scrip writers didnt address mxtxs work as an adaptation they were adapting 5/?

Anon, I'm assuming you said what you wanted to say? Idk, but let me reply to these?

Bear in mind, I watched the series once and actually fast forwarded a few scenes.

I agree that CQL has colored people's opinion on the characters. But I still don't get the takes. Even if CQL softened JC significantly, his actions are still Very bad.

Even in CQL, he-

1. Owes a debt to the Wens and refuses to disclose it.

2. Knows people in the BM are harmless and there's a child there.

3. Doesn't support WWX at critical times, showing division instead of solidarity.

4. Lets the woman he was intent on courting burn before his very eyes.

5. Participates in a seige against his martial brother.

6. Helps that martial brother commit su*cide.

7. Threatens a resurrected wwx multiple times.

8. Tries to fight wwx when he was legit bleeding and swaying in front of him.

9. Goes 'what of my mother, father, sister,' during the whole GC conversation at the temple.

10. Treats his nephew like shit.

11. Benefits immensely from WWX's death.

This is just from the top of my head. Just CQL material.

So, all of these things aren't subtle. They're not nuanced actions of discreet character that you need to dig into. All of these incidences are significant events, clearly described and showcased in CQL.

Blaming CQL is well and good, it has a lot of flaws. I agree with everything you mentioned. But, my thing is, CQL JC is almost worst. CQL WWX is actually more innocent. CQL goes solidly white vs. black morality. LWJ and WWX on the right side, everyone else (juniors and wn not included) on the wrong side. It can't be clearer even in that, somewhat clumsy, adaptation.

What I think is happening is people are overly identifying with a foil character. Instead of thinking, "Well, this is how this character works, these are his actions" they go, "this is how the author, unjustly, crafted my fav character. His actions are the author's fault and really, he is better deep down inside of him. You just don't understand him like I do. Really, the author was unfair to him."

All the while, they forget this is a fictional character crafted from the author's imagination and not a real, dynamic person.

The case with MianMian is ridiculous. Her character is compelling in many ways and CQL definitely messed it up. JZX would've benefited from that nuance. I won't comment on how much I hate the low self-esteem so prevalent in WWX's CQL characterization because it makes me scream.

But even then, WWX is shown as competent, confident, and so done with everyone's bs. He clearly reached a point where he only cares about LWJ. It is pretty obvious that in his opinion, everyone else (aside from juniors and wn) sucks.

CQL may be iffy, it isn't fully to blame. Fanon takes are... well, just some people deciding they wanna ignore the source material and believe their fav character is different. Which, sure. I don't mind.

Still doesn't change the fact that they chose to interpret characters in a certain way despite all evidence to the contrary.

The Brothers as Astrology Signs (Sun edition) Part 1

I know each of the brothers have their own birthdays and by association, their own signs already, but some of their signs just don’t seem to fit well to me so I’m going take a crack at figuring out their true sun signs.

If you think another sign fits one of the boys better, feel free to let me know! I’d love to hear your thoughts on the matter.

Lucifer:

Birthday: June 6

Canon sign: Gemini

True Sign: Virgo

Virgos are seen as practical and logical people. They are diligent with their work and aren’t afraid to put in some sleepless nights for their current projects. They can also be a bit of a perfectionist at times, which can cause them to be overly critical of themselves and others. They can also be pretty stubborn and set in their ways, thinking that they know what’s best. They’re also known for being big worriers as they overthink quite a bit. All of this together can make them seem a bit uptight at times, but they are just trying their best to keep their lives running as smoothly as possible.

Now let’s look at Lucifer. Being that he is very often found doing work for Diavolo, whether in the form of paperwork, attending meetings, or investigating into legal matters for the Devildom (ex: trying to locate the illegal casino at the carnival). We’ve even seen him sacrifice sleep and work long into the night to get his paperwork done. There is definitely no doubts about his diligence. What about being stubborn and a perfectionist? Well he’s definitely shown that when he gives an order that he fully expects you to comply. Negotiations are often ineffective with him. He has often already made plans for how things need to go and doesn’t want his family to make themselves, him, or Diavolo look bad.

Worries or overthinks? I definitely think so. As the eldest and Diavolo’s right-hand man, he has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. He tries to keep his brothers safe and out of trouble, but there is always some sort of ordeal within the House of Lamentation. Mammon trying to steal his shit? Has to place magic on his most important items to keep them safe. Video game turning the house and school into a maze? Jfc, Levi, why did you have to by this? Now he has to struggle to get to the meeting on time. Suspicious human exchange student systematically making pacts with his brothers just to release his youngest (and not to mention, genocidal) brother out of safe captivity? Yeah, we’re looking at you MC! Basically, this man has every reason to worry and overthink.

Mammon:

Birthday: September 10

Canon sign: Virgo

True sign: Aries

Aries are known for being passionate and independent. They are known for their competitive nature and are determined to win every contest they are a part of. They are also known for being loyal, smart, and impulsive. They are also ones to be blunt with their words, even at risk of sounding rude. They’d rather be honest and tell it like it is instead of keeping quiet or sugarcoating things. They always have multiple projects on the brain, never satisfied unless their life lines up with how they dream it should be.

Now to Mammon. What here matches up? Well, we know he is smart when he chooses to apply himself. Mammon has shown to be really talented at math when he associates the problem with money. Impulsive? Definitely. As many times as he’s stolen from his brothers on a whim just to make more cash, I’d say this is pretty accurate. Honest? Well, I think you could make a case for either answer. Mammon does have to lie a lot to cover his tracks when doing something illegal or, in general, something Lucifer would disapprove of. However, he has shown in different situations how he lacks a filter and honestly speaks his mind, resulting in an accidental insult to Lucifer or admitting to wrongdoings in front of him. This can be interpreted as him naturally being a honest person, but having learned to be dishonest in certain situations to protect himself and his interests.

Is he competitive? When given the right motivation, you can bet that he will go all out to become victorious and you will hear the Great Mammon singing his own praises before the competition even begins. Loyal? Hell yeah. This dude may complain a lot, but at the end of the day, he cares about his brothers. He may muck things up at times, but he still tries to help them out every now and again. Now is he passionate? Think about how he is with Grimm and there’s your answer.

Leviathan:

Birthday: April 9

Canon sign: Aries

True sign: Cancer

Cancers are seen to be tenacious, imaginative, emotional, and sympathetic people. They are truly in touch with their feelings on a deep level and care a lot for their family. However, they can also be moody, pessimistic, suspicious, and insecure.

Levi shows many of these traits. His imaginative side shown with his interests: anime and video games. He likes occupying his time by transporting his mind elsewhere; into fictional worlds to explore and be himself. It is also shown with his hobby of making cosplays and costumes, like he did for the play. After all, one of the reasons to make cosplay is to express your creativity. Some other clear traits of his would be emotional, pessimistic, and moody. How he expresses his title of Avatar of Envy shows this well. Whenever he hears something fortunate happening to others, especially if its something he has already expressed an interest in, he will quickly become sad and overall down on himself, with thoughts that others have it so much easier and he could never have their luck or the good things they receive. This also leads into his insecurities. He’s always talking down to himself and trying to justify his shut-in lifestyle. As much as he enjoys the things he likes, he feels like no one can understand him because of them, causing him to worry that he’ll never fit in with others while simultaneously say to himself that he doesn’t need others and shouldn’t have to interact with “normies”.

Bonus: The site I was using also said Cancers love relaxing in or near water, like home-based hobbies, and hate revealing their private life. Since Levi is a pretty private person, rarely leaves his room, and has an affinity with water, this seemed too perfect.

Also, has anyone else noticed the trend with the signs? I noticed it while typing and its somehow a really interesting pattern to me.

If You Let Me: Chapter 1

Rating: T Pairings: Demyx/Zexion, Demyx/Ienzo (Eventual/Slowburn) Characters: Various, Zexion/Ienzo Centric Setting: BBS to KH3, Canon compliant mostly

Warnings: Canon Character Death (Temporary)

Summary: “It’s almost a shame really, that you probably won’t survive this.” Only he did. Spending the prelude to adulthood as a nobody, a supposed empty husk of a being was never an option any of them considered, least of all a newly named Zexion who would be living every last one of them.

Note: I’ve been wanting to write this since KH3 came out, finally got round to planning everything after a recent stint in hospital haha. I’ve not written Multi Chapter in a while so lets hope I can keep going with it.

Year 0

He’s half asleep when the shouting begins, Even shaking him awake with a panicked look on his face and Ienzo doesn’t understand it, not fully, blinking slowly as he attempted to register what was going on. Panic. Shouting. Even holding his arms, a little too tightly with a frantic look in his eyes that does nothing but scare Ienzo. Why was he so scared?

“I need you to hide for me, hide for me and don’t make a sound. Can you do that, Ienzo?” Ienzo doesn’t get chance to respond, Dilan shouting something outside catching Even’s attention, something hissed under his bis breath that’s drowned out by the noise outside before he turns back to Ienzo. His expression softens, hands brushing hair from blue eyes as a kiss is placed against his forehead. “Go on now, go hide.”

The child does as he’s told, ducking under Even’s desk, curling up in the corner. Hands slide over ears as there’s a scream, something thudding against the door. Was Dilan hurt? Shouldn’t they help? He doesn’t understand, why are they hiding when they could help? Even could heal Dilan and then they could find everyone else and leave before whatever attacked Dilan attacked them all too.

He doesn’t want to lose his family. Not again.

The office door doesn’t slam open so much as creak, eerily quiet and somehow more terrifying than if it had slammed, Ienzo clamping his lips together to stop himself from letting out a shuddering breath. Even had told him to be quiet so he would be quiet, he’d looks so serious, so afraid. What was scary enough to make Even scared and Dilan shout?

Where were Aeleus and Braig?

“Where is Ienzo?”

“Not in here, what do you want?”

Static seems to build in his head, setting his brain alight as his heart rate spiked. He knows that voice, the new member of the family who didn’t speak to him much unless he wanted something. The one who told him to ask Ansem for the lab where the bad things always happened.

“Research.”

The pressure on his ears grows as he hears them fight, clamping his eyes closed and counting to ten and then back again in his head, the static almost painful when he feels it. The desk pushes against him as a thud echoes above him, eyes flying open to look above him then to the side as a hand comes into view. Pale, weathered, almost as familiar as his own.

Why wasn’t Even moving?

Hands clamp over his mouth as a whimper leaves his lips, pacing footsteps stopping before coming closer, slowly as if the owner didn’t know he was here and he didn’t, right? He’d behaved, he’d been quiet. Even wasn’t going to be mad with him when he woke up, he stayed quiet like he was supposed to. He’d behaved. He’d been good.

The creak of wood beside him makes him jolt, eyes flicking from the hand to the side of him. The static stops. Everything stops bar the impulse to run, wanting to desperately to move but paralysed as blue meets orange, a tanned face flickering between a lack of surprise to something almost feral and beast like. Lips curve up into a smile, in no way friendly, the need to run growing larger and more desperate as Xehanort leaned forward.

“Found you.”

Ienzo bolts, not making it far before he’s grabbed, a scream ripping from his throat as he’s dragged, over Even’s crumpled form, the grip ever tightening the more he tried to pull away and he knows. He knows he’s not felt fear like this since he lost his parents and now, he was losing them all over again, desperately reaching for Even before being thrown to the floor.

“I really should thank you, if you hadn’t convinced that old fool, we’d never have reached such marvels.”

It was his fault? He’d caused all this? Ienzo looks from Even to Xehanort, another whimper escaping his lips as the tears welled up. It was his fault Even and, most certainly Dilan, were hurt. Were Aeleus and Braig hurt too? What about those two strange boys who kept wandering in and bribing his silence with ice cream? How many people were going to be hurt because he convinced Ansem to build a new lab?

“It’s almost a shame really, that you probably won’t survive this.”

He only sees the glint of light on the keyblade before he succumbs to the darkness.

Year 1.

“You need to focus!”

He hates the lessons, Zexion swallowing back a retort as Vexen’s voice cut through his concentration once more, the image of what he was trying to manifest crumbling into nothing, leaving nothing but the dark space of the lab once more. As Even he’d been warmer in voice and spirit, he’d lectured him enough when he’d misbehaved but his voice was never as cold as ice when he did it, never cutting in the way it lacked encouragement.

“I’m trying.” Zexion responded, training the anger out of his voice least he be admonished for expressing emotions as well. We don’t have hearts, we’re not supposed to feel, he’s been told this time and time again yet each one of his mentors has exhibited something close to the human range of emotion. Was it one rule for them and another for him?

Letting out a deep breath he tries again, taking his time as he tries to picture what Vexen wants. A Shadow Heartless. This should be easy, there were thousands of them outside in the city below, Zexion furrowing his brows as he focused on the image, managing to drown out Vexen’s ever helpful criticisms.

It’s then he feels the shift, staring in confusion at the blank space before him before looking up to Vexen who was quiet but not mad. Why wasn’t he mad? He hadn’t don’t as the other had asked, there was no Shadow Heartless, just the blank white floor of an overly white castle.

“Not what I expected but impressive all the same.” Vexen mutters, scribbling something down on the clipboard he held, Ignoring Zexion in favour of recording whatever feat Zexion had apparently performed. Looking down at his hands, Zexion falters, expecting gloves hands but instead finding small black claws.

He hadn’t made the heartless, he’d become it.

The library is the safest space to hide, Zexion has found, heavy book in hand and a secluded corner to hide from the other seven but someone will find him eventually, they always do and, as always, he can only hope its Lexaeus as opposed to Xigbar or Axel, the latter of which continues to look at him like everything was his fault.

Maybe it was, Xehanort had stated as much before he became this husk and now, now someone who wasn’t there joins in the conviction.

The guilt gnaws at him, book abandoned on the floor beside him as he tries to remember the smell of the gardens in spring, when Kairi’s grandmother would bring her to visit whilst she talked with master Ansem. The ever-present rain around the Castle the Never Was fades away, replaced by a gentle breeze and a shadow of the feeling of sunlight on his skin.

Was Kairi okay? He can barely remember her voice now but he remembers the red hair, how she’d pull him round the gardens, telling him about the different flowers how one day they’d go on an adventure today. How she’d make sure to keep him safe from monsters. He’s not sure how she could do that now, since he had become the monster.

“Do you think we could still be friends?” He mumbles to his silent illusion, watching her run amongst the flower beds, picking one or two and always bringing them back to him as their guardian and protector until she’d finished collecting one flower seemingly of every colour and every type. “I think she’ll love them; she always does.” He replies to her mouthed question of if he thinks her Grandma will like her make shift bouquet.

He’s not sure how long he lingers in this illusion of his own memories, all most lost in the sea of flowers and warmth when he smells it. The scene shatters into nothing as fire and ash fill his senses, swallowing thickly and curling up as the smell got ever closer. It hadn’t worked before when he was under a desk, why would it work now?

He’ll be shouted at. He doesn’t want to be shouted at. Tears already pricking at his eyes when the smell of a forest fire becomes too much, he has to become smaller, has to disappear. He needs to hide. He needs to hide. HE NEEDS TO HIDE. His body screams at him to move as the footsteps finally round the bookcase, a click of a tongue and the sound of a hand hitting another body.

“Well, well, well, if it isn’t the li- Oh shit, are you crying?”

Two bodies press against him, fire on one side and something almost beastly on the other, Saix had joined Axel then, Ienzo finding some comfort in the sudden warmth and pressure but it was still not enough to fully dampen the sudden spike of anxiety. The silence isn’t as tense as he first believed, Zexion slowly calming down to the point he could look at the pair who had joined him only to find Saix glaring at Axel who at least looked sheepish.

“I feel-“ A clearing of the throat interrupts, Axel glaring at Saix before sighing. “I have misplaced anger towards you, I’m sorry for snapping at you. You’re a kid, I don’t see how you could be involved.”

He wasn’t expecting an apology, Zexion looking between the pair again, knowing he was missing something important in the discussion but perhaps not something to ask about. The last time he’d tried to help it had inevitably ended with an abyss for a chest and a spreading darkness. Perhaps this time, this time he doesn’t ask, he doesn’t intervene with his help only to ruin the result later on.

It would be better that way.

Safety also came with Lexaeus, Zexion decided, sitting on the stool by the counter as the other prepared food, Zexion easily loosing himself in the smell of the raw ingredients, legs swinging idly as he sat simply watching. Lexaeus doesn’t expect too much from him, doesn’t look at him as if it’s his fault, he treats him almost the same as he did when they were both human.

It’s nice, comforting.

“How have lessons been going?” His deep voice is soothing, Zexion hesitating vocally but his face spills all, a look of distaste and annoyance twisting his features, causing a chuckle from the taller man. “That good, hmm?” He’s teasing, Zexion knows this, but still feels somewhat told off, blowing his hair from his eyes and crossing his arms. It’s childish, he knows but, memory serves, he was only nine regardless of his ability to feel emotions or not.

“I’ve discovered more things on my own, he wants me to do things I don’t really want to.” He receives a hum in response, both in agreement and encouragement to go on, as if genuinely interested in what Zexion had to say about his lessons with Vexen. But would he share these thoughts or keep them to himself? Was it worth the risk?

Apparently so, words spilling from Zexion’s mouth before he could really stop himself. “They’re boring, if not that he tells me to concentrate and then speaks halfway through and ruins my concentration.”

“He says that you mimicked a heartless.”

“Yes, once.” It’s all Vexen wanted him to concentrate on now, it seemed, the blonde growing more frustrated with him when he couldn’t, a blessing in and of itself as it usually meant Zexion would be left alone for a little while until Vexen came back and the rigorous routine of failing to become a replica would start all over again. He should probably practise more without his mentor present, Zexion thinks, knowing things came a bit more naturally when he didn’t feel under observation.

The conversation ends there, the comfortable silence settling back over them again. Zexion has always found it a wonder that someone with such large, strong hands could be so gentle with food, wrinkling his nose at the sting of onions in his sinuses but staying silent otherwise. Maybe he should learn, free up time for Lexaeus whilst also add a task to his schedule that extended beyond lessons with Vexen and the frequent trips to the library.

“I can show you what else I’ve learnt.”

Lexaeus stops working then, turning to the child Nobody with an almost confused yet utterly curious look, raising an eyebrow at the young boy who feels almost giddy for once. He hadn’t shown anyone else this, not even Axel and Saix when they would now occasionally join him to, in Axel’s own words, make sure he grew up with a sense of humour.

He gets no prompt to continue but Zexion does anyway, taking a deep breath before twisting the landscape of the kitchen into something more friendly and familiar. The white floor fades away to stone, the walls swallowed by the landscape of Radiant garden, an autumnal breeze in the air as the sun offered little to no warmth from its rays.

The flower beds have mostly withered away, the sea of colour now replaced with muted browns and greens, the brilliant oranges and yellows of fallen leaves offering the only real splashes of colour in the imagined gardens. What smells, what smells, Zexion racking his mind for anything before landing on spices. Cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and pepper, warm and hearty, comforting and familiar. The kitchen is no longer the kitchen but the gardens of the old castle they called home.

Sounds. It needs sounds. Zexion furrowing his brow as he concentrated, eyes screwing shut as the sound of water trickled in, accompanied by bird song and the sound of the town below. It’s perfect, his breaths coming a little harder from exertion as he looks to Lexaeus for a reaction, hoping for happiness only to receive concern.

“Did I do something wrong?” His voice is quiet, insecure, mind running a mile a minute as he tried to go over what he did to cause such a reaction only to snap out of his thoughts as a hand comes down on his shoulder, gentle yet firm, grounding him as he nearly sent himself spiralling into another downward trajectory of ill thoughts.

Lexaeus offers a smile, small but still there, not as warm as it used to be but Zexion was growing used to the changes in his other apprentices now. “No, it’s beautiful.” There’s something else there, something the giant wants to add on but is seemingly fighting with himself over admitting before sighing, inhaling sharply and seeming to regain his apparently fleeting confidence in his words. “Let’s keep this a secret for now.”

“A secret?”

“Yes, a secret for just us.” He doesn’t fully understand the need for secrecy, biting his lower lip as he thinks for a moment before nodding, wondering if it was a touch more serious than he first thought as Lexaeus relaxes, giving his shoulder a comforting squeeze.

Taking a deep breath, Zexion lets the illusion of Radiant garden fade away, the grey blue sky replaced by stark white, metallic walls as the patchwork of stone dissolves into nothing. There are no more birds, or breeze, the warm smells of autumn fading away into the smells of whatever dish Lexaeus was making this evening.

He could keep a secret. Axel and Saix had a secret, Xemnas also had secrets. What was another secret after all that?

Okay so shoutout @denbrough (mo) for helping me with this, also @stenbranlons (claudia) for nodding alongin our gc, I’m sorry we talked about this for like a week RGLKNRG. To preface,we are in no way astrology experts lmao, we pulled from several differentsources and picked which ones we felt fit best. Which, that being said, we didnot consider any of the canon birthdays for this, just vibes. Ik some peopleare very particular about astrology headcanons LGRNG so these are just our ownopinions, any differing ones are not less valid or whatever. Also, charts arevery complex and have many different factors, like Mercury for communicationand Venus for love, etc, we just decided to do the main three placements. Incase some of y’all don’t know, someone’s Sun sign is essentially their basicidentity and personality, it’s how we act in the world, and our conscious mind.Our moon sign is our emotional self, our unconscious, how we react tothings, our deepest needs. Some astrologists say this is more like our “trueself”. One’s rising or ascendant sign is our social personality, it is howpeople perceive us, and often how we perceive the world and new experiences—it representsthe “outward”. Some refer to it as the mask we wear around others, though thatdoes not mean our rising/ascendant is fake, but rather how we act and thinkwhen interacting with our environment. Anyways because this is me, theseexplanations became super fucking long so I’m sorry about that! This was superfun though, thank you for asking!

Bill:

Leo Sun: Leos are leaders, theyare very charming and pull people in with their loyalty, humor, and confidence.All of the losers love Bill and are very enraptured by him, Leos tend to be inthe spotlight and adored, so I think this is very fitting. They always want tohelp people but sometimes they can also get fixated and arrogant and end up neglectingwhat others need—for instance Bill being so fixated on finding Georgie that hedoesn’t totally realize the other losers are really scared and getting hurt. Cancer Moon: Okay so I have alwayssaid Bill has Big Cancer Energy, but I think it makes most sense as hisemotional self. Cancers are caretaker types; they want the best for theirfriends and do whatever they can to help them. They are persuasive—sometimes tothe point of manipulation. Many Cancers are afraid of rejection/abandonment(hello Bill’s shitty parents and him holding onto the idea of his brother foras long as possible!) Because they are so caring and sensitive towards theirfriends, they can be quite moody—both anger and sadness. (Bill be Crying andpunching his friends sometimes doe!) Cancers like art and are very imaginative(Bill’s art and writing). When I think of Cancers, I think of tender h*rniness.They fall in love very easily and crave a deep love and can be v thirsty attimes lmao, to me that really encapsulates Bill. Cancer Moons are also verydomestic and love comfort, and while I think Bill likes to go on adventures, Ithink he is someone who enjoys a sort of domestic routine with the people heloves from time to time. Cancer also rules the moon so he’s Extra EmotionalLNRGRG.

Aries Rising: Those with Ariesrising are often leaders, lively, generous, warm, and have a reputation ofbeing a troublemaker. They are rash and jump into situations (HELLO BILL KINGOF DUMB IMPULSE DECISIONS). But, they are very engaging and can be greatmotivational speakers (Neibolt speech teas). They want to help friends to thepoint that if they refuse, an Aries rising individual will refuse to acceptthat rejection. Furthermore, sometimes they can come off a bit like arrogantassholes, but they really do care about their friends and just want to helperklgneg. Aries rising people are very emotional and their impulsiveness cansometimes translate into rushing serious relationships.

Mike:

Libra Sun: Libras are very diplomatic;they bring harmony and balance and can see multiple sides. I think this fitsMike very well, for instance during the scene where the losers are by the PaulBunyan statue, Mike understands why Stan is looking at this logically but healso understands Bill’s emotional reaction. He also understands why Bill andBeverly think they should stay together and help, but he also understands whyRichie/Ben/Stan don’t want to keep going. He tries to get everyone to calm thefuck down and cooperate. Libras hate conflict, aside from Mike’s nonviolence(not wanting to kill the sheep and hesitating to hurt Henry until he knew itwas life or death), he also avoided telling all the losers about why he askedthem to return, showing sometimes his aversion to conflict can be a negative. Librasoften get fixated on one thing—the crazy conspiracist Mike of it all… Iunderstand why people think he could be a Taurus because of his commitment tothe losers and staying in Derry for 27 years, but I think that is super tied tothe idea of bringing justice for those who P*nnywise killed and will try to kill,Libras are super into fighting against injustice. Also, Libras are ruled byVenus and love love and are very charming, I think Mike has a certain pull andmagnetism about him.

Taurus Moon: Individuals withtheir moon in Taurus are very warm, affectionate, and sentimental. They like togather all the facts but can be somewhat impressionable, again I think thismakes sense with how he decides that he believes pennywise exists and hisresearch as he stays in Derry. Speaking of, this line from Mo’s book killed me:“when you’re confronted with a problem you look for the most effective way todeal with it, and even if it’s personally painful for you, you get it handled”.Like. Oh my god. They also like creature comforts—often Taurus is linked withluxury but I think in this sense his ‘luxury’ is his kitschy clutter of thingsthat hold sentimental value—supernatural items, knick knacks from his childhood,his favorite books, etc. He holds these dear and this is probably why his homeis a big ol mess but he likes it and finds it cozy. Speaking of, they are veryromantic and want a life of domesticity, which feels very Mike to me! Theyinvest a lot in their friendships, I think this is true of Mike as well seeingas you know.. he sacrifices years of his life so they can be happy.

Capricorn Rising: Those withCapricorn rising can be quite shy with strangers, but once they get to knowpeople, they are very friendly and warm. They are very dedicated to theirgoals, these goals are often to strive for a better life (Mike wanting to savethe people of Derry, Mike wanting to travel, etc). But sometimes this strivingcan make Cap risings feel unfulfilled and they continue to search for somethingmissing. Capricorn rising individuals are smart and concentrated, they are ableto parse through information and plan ahead, though sometimes they go overevery detail too much—Mike is very into research and understanding things andsearches every possibility. They love deeply and are very loyal and protectiveof those they love. They can worry a lot. Mo also added that cap risings are dependent,reliable, and stable. which can be attributed to mike staying in derry allthose years and keeping that promise to call them. Overall he’s very groundedand down to earth with his rising/moon!

Stan:

Virgo Sun: Virgos are veryanalytical and pay attention to the little details. Often times, this leads tothem being very critical of themselves and others, and they are prone toworrying. I think Stan is someone who tries to navigate through life logically,but he can get caught up in the anxieties of everything going wrong and getoverwhelmed. They often like animals and nature (not to be like Stan likesbirds and plants and shit but he does GLKNRG), and value cleanliness, sometimesthis leads to germaphobia or hypochondria especially because Virgos tend toworry (and we know Stan is a germophobe and deals with OCD, he has to clean thebloody bathroom in a certain way, the painting needs to be perfectly straight,etc.). In friendships, Virgos usually play a role of an advisor—they are veryloyal and want to solve problems but sometimes that means they find problems ineverything (I think Stan tries to advise the group but also Bill is like okaylet’s do it like this

Pisces Moon: Some people view Stanas very emotionless or even angry, but I think he’s quite emotional, he justtries to operate with logic first. Pisces moons are often described as ‘dreamy’and want to escape reality (Stan being like it’s summer let’s just forget what’sgoing on and… other stuff lmao). They are very emotional, but those emotionscan be hard for others to read because they are very mysterious, and even hardfor the individual to express. They have a strange sense of humor (kookiekookie lend me your bonessssss). Those with Pisces moon are very sweet andsensitive to others suffering and are drawn to those in crisis often (like.Literally all of the losers LKGNRKRG) and can be overly trusting (I swear Bill!!!).They are also very afraid of the past coming back to haunt them… :(. Mo the ultimate Stan stan also had this to say: ever since claudia tagged one ofmy posts about stan being one of the most emotional losers but no one evertalking about it, i'm constantly thinking about how stan reacts to things. myinitial reaction was scorpio moon, but scorpio moons are really good at hidingtheir emotions. think about stan's reactions to big events in his life: gettingleft alone in the sewers, his bar mitzvah getting mike's call. he has distinctemotional reactions. pisces is also the sign of sorrow and self-undoing, sothinking back to some canon events it just makes a lot of sense to me. piscesmoons are also really selfless when it comes to their friends, but very strictand disciplined when it comes to themselves.

Aquarius Rising: There’s thissection in Mo’s astrology book that just like. So completely encapsulates Stanand how he interacts with the losers imo: “You are often intolerant of otherpeople’s shortcomings and can be wickedly sarcastic and very funny at the sametime. Your razor-sharp powers of observation help you uncover flaws that youcan poke fun at. You are a system of paradoxes. You enjoy being with people butare perfectly content to be alone. You like to travel but love relaxing athome. You are friendly and outgoing but, at other times, moody and reserved.” Like!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Also, those with their rising in Aquarius are very idealistic and want theworld to be happy and harmonious (Stan being like its summer can we chill andnot wanting to be part of any conflict). They can also feel impatient towardsthose who don’t share the same vision.

Beverly: (imma be honest Bev was the hardest toplace so don’t judge lerngerg)

AquariusSun: To me, Aquarians are the epitome of like… chill/friendly stonerthat likes to talk about conspiracy theories and injustices of the world whiley’all are seshing but they are also kinda mysterious bc you never really knowwhats going on in their head …. which is v Bev to me RLGKNNKRG. Aquarians lovehanging out with friends and are really good listeners, which I think is trueof Beverly—they also have odd senses of humor. They are humanitarians that liketo fight for justice, I think Bev is someone who wants to fight for those whoare being hurt bc it’s something she has experienced and wants to provide thehelp that she didn’t get. For instance, she’s the one who’s like we need to gosave Mike, and she also wants to help save Derry and agrees with Bill that theyshould keep fighting Pennywise during the big fight after Neibolt. Aquarians canbe quite paradoxical—at times they are shy, other times loud and eccentric, Ithink this makes sense for Bev, another quality is that those with their sun inAquarius like to have some time alone, both of these things make me think ofthe moments she enjoys on her own and the other times she seeks out fun withthe losers and does crazy shit like jump off a cliff LKGNKNRG. They can bekinda bad at emotional expression and are very guarded with their emotions,sometimes coming of cold/bitchy until they know they can trust someone (Bev toBen at first on the stairs elrkgnerg).

Aquarius Moon: okay Mo wrote this explanation and I thot it was perfect so: Moon in Aquarius brings upthe qualities of sensitivity and perception. Since aqua is the sign of rationalthinking and humanitarianism, moon in Aquarius gives a person a clear mindsetand kinder outlook on life. Moon in Aqauarius are rational, intuitive, andimaginative, which i think can speak for a lot of beverly's character traitsand actions like her monologue in it 2017 where she tries to rationally explainwhy pennywise is going after them and how they have to defeat it, whereaseveryone else is struck by fear and emotional, or at the end of it 2019 whereshe tells richie that eddie is dead, and being intuitive enough to know thatshe has to tell him and tell him in a specific way, the imagination quality isa clear call to her artistic vision as a designer. aqua moons have greatvitality, they're witty conversationalists, and all around great friends. ithink that the friendliness and sociability of her aqua moon can be offset byher sag rising so there's more balance and nuance to her characteristics there.they're interested in the unusual, specifically in people, which could link herto vibing so well with the losers club. they can't stand possessive or jealouslovers, but they unconsciously choose people who aren't available to them (herfirst husband). they need a fine line between commitment and independence,which i think speaks to her behavior as a kid. she needs the stability and thespace to grow she didn't have from her dad. they deeply value platonic love. overall,aqua moons are independent, they have stimulating minds, persuasive charms, anda side of their personality that will always gear towards the unusual

SagittariusRising: Sagittarians love hanging out with their friends, but they alsohave the desire to be free and have adventures (I want to run towardssomething, not away! Queen). They are wise but optimistic, again I think thisties with things like her understanding that they all have to stick together tobeat pennywise, but also believing that they have the ability to kill It aswell. They are humorous and can be quite outgoing and confident, there aretimes when Bev is v confident and wild (teasing Ben, jumping off the cliff,initiating the rock war, etc). Sag risings are also v brave—like every single timeshe fights It or the Bowers or her dad or her husband. They’re good at tellingstories. They are also people who fight for the oppressed and want to createideas that help the world.

Ben:

Pisces Sun: Pisces are super friendlyand will do anything to help others even if they don’t get anything back(Ben!!!!!!!! Ben!!!!!!). They are very compassionate and gentle with others, I thinkthis is very true for Ben as he is p much always super sweet and understanding withthe losers. Their compassion can sometimes lead to being way too trusting—this canbe a problem bc they could fall in with bad company and hate being criticizedand sometimes views themselves as a victim. I don’t think Ben ever tries to like…capitalize on being a victim or anything but I think he does feel that waysometimes especially in regards to Bill/Bev, but he understands that’s her owndecision, again being very compassionate and not expecting anything out of hisactions. Sometimes their strong emotions can manifest in negative ways, likebeing scared, sad, and feeling misunderstood—they also can cry p easily (Ben criesquite a bit for his friends like in the sewers and his own romantic feelingsand stuff). They are super romantic and love unconditionally. They are also quiteintuitive, I think this makes sense (in tandem with the romanticism) withthings like kissing Bev to save her, understanding where to look into stuff inregard to the pennywise bullshit, etc.

Taurus Moon: We’ve talked aboutthis a bit with Mike, but I think Ben is also a Taurus Moon! LunarTaureans are very sentimental and have deep, strong emotions. They are vromantic and hang on to their relationships, both platonic and romantic, (thepostcard…….) they want a devoted and committed relationship that providessecurity. Those with their moon in Taurus really invest a lot in their friendships,I think friendship is one of if not the most important thing to Ben so thismakes a lot of sense to me. There’s a line in one of the sites I looked at thatfeels SO Ben to me: “Taurus moon sign energy has two speeds: relaxed andcontented […] or hyped-up and ready to charge”. That totally reminds me of howBen is usually p chill and easy going but when the people he loves arethreatened he goes crazy to protect them (the rock war scream and him going crazyduring that LGKNNRG and fighting pennywise, etc). While Mike’s affinity for luxuryis more like…. Kitschy clutter trash GLNRG, I think Ben’s interest in architecturefeels v luxurious and the importance of a home base makes sense for him. TaurusMoons also like to gather all the facts first—this makes sense in how heapproaches his friendships/relationships but also other things like investigatingDerry.

Libra Rising: Let’s go diplomatic romanticslet’s goooooooooo!!! Libras want harmony and are therefore good mediators, theywant everyone to have a good time and are good at teamwork. I think this makessense for Ben and can especially be seen in scenes like the reunion dinnerwhere he tries to calm everyone down and let Mike be heard. They are persuasivebut often do so with a ‘nice guy’ approach rather than like Charm andConfidence like Leo/Aries. Again, Libra Risings are SUPER romantic and havegood intuition, they usually know when they have a chance with someone and willcreate an ideal vibe for their relationships to bloom. They like to plan aheadfor the future with their loved ones (hello argument scene where he’s like imgonna be 30 and far away from here). They also feel like they need anotherhalf, which i think is true for romance but also just like. He needs hisfriends and really loves/cares about them. Those with their rising in Libraalso really care about home aesthetics and having a balanced space, again I thinkaiding in his architecture career.

Eddie

Sagittarius Sun: Tbh, I was v tornbetween sag and scorpio for Eddie’s sun, but I think Sagittarius best describeshis sun and Scorpio for his emotional self. Sagittarians are curious and fullof energy, and they value freedom (hello let Eddie be free!!!!!!). They can besuper impatient and tactless with some of the things they say, which is a veryEddie thing to me lernrgge. Furthermore, they can get angry pretty quickly aswell, and often talk quickly too (Eddie speaks so fucking fast and snaps easilyat everyone erglknegr). They also have good senses of humor; they like to teaseothers. Those with sun in Sagittarius are dedicated to their friends and arewilling to do anything… like defy their awful mother and crawl through a sewerwith a broken arm to fight a murderous clown. Sometimes they have blind faithin others, which I think could be translated to his relationship with Bill andto a more intense and negative respect, his mother. Sags want to find knowledgeand understand other people’s beliefs, and they are very vocal about their own,even to the point of exaggeration (like every single rant Eddie goes on LMAO).They also like sports which like LET EDDIE RUNNNN. Also, not to be a reddie butin looking at compatibility with the signs Gemini/Sag fit so much better forthem and made a lot of sense to me.

Scorpio Moon: Those with theirmoon in Scorpio are very emotionally intense and can be quite dramatic. Thiscan allow them to be quite perceptive of the emotions of others. However, theyare very good at hiding their own emotions because they often disprove of themand deny that they are motivated by their strong emotions. (hello repressedEddie). This helps Scorpio moons feel in control, but it can be detrimental. Ireally love this line from Mo’s book: “you must learn to let go emotionally andfeel your pain, and through the experience expand your phenomenalability to love”. Yup lover!!!! Scorpio moons are also very determined andpersistent…. fighter eddie!! Lover and fighter eddie!!! This made me kinda sad,but it says that there’s usually sorrow/trouble in the lives of Moon-Scorpiosand those are often tied to family and health… :/ and that they think ofescapist fantasies to cope with that. Scorpio moons are sensual but thestereotype of ~super sexy scorpio~ is kind of misleading. They have huge trustissues and don’t want to be controlled (oop… also they usually get married multipletimes lmao), it takes a lot for them to be trusting in love but when they do it’sa very deep love.

Virgo Rising: Those with theirrising in Virgo are BIG worriers and are super analytical, they often noticetiny details. (Maybe a dumb thing but Eddie is always the first to notice whenone of their friends is gone in the sewers, also in more funny and little wayslike him sniffing Ben’s perfume—that also ties in with his Sag curiosity imo).However, even though they notice details and can be intuitive, they miss out onemotional nuances. Sometimes they can be a little too forward and matter offact with people—I think Eddie speaks before he thinks a lot LKRG and can saysome rude shit sometimes without realizing it. (Ik this is kinda like my own stuffbleeding through but in general I think Eddie can be oblivious to other’semotions LRNGKNLG). They are very critical—often towards themselves, they areinsecure and beat themselves up over just about every little thing they do (SUCHan Eddie thing to me). Furthermore, they are guarded with their emotions untilthey have analyzed the situation and feel comfortable (again. Very Eddie tome). This often means they come off as timid and at times cold/stand-offish,which I think in new situations or times when Eddie’s unsure (aka has not analyzedeverything and feels unsafe whether physically or with his emotions), he tendsto draw in on himself and stay quiet. (But, then, his fire Sag side comes burstingout when he just can’t take it anymore and goes bonkers LKGRNG). Virgo risingsare organized and care about hygiene and cleanliness and are very in tune withtheir body (of course, Eddie’s obsession with cleanliness and hygiene/healthhas a lot to do with his mother’s abuse, but I also think there are some parts withinhim inherently who care about those things, it just got exacerbated in anextremely negative way bc of his mother). Interestingly, Virgo risings are veryenergetic, often with nervous energy, and have a hard time staying still—this feelsvery Eddie to me, his pacing and emphatic hand gestures, etc.

Richie:

Gemini Sun: Geminis are superwitty and funny and love to have a grand ol’ chaotic time with their friends,but then can turn serious suddenly. Oftentimes they feel restless and feel likethey are missing their other half so to speak (the yearning… the emo moments…).They’re very sociable and hate being alone, they love to entertain others, theyare strong communicators. Their love for communication often means they feelthe need to talk A LOT, even to strangers. (Trashmouth Tozier always talking!—Mopointed out that Richie’s talking is so bad that they had to create a separate phase,beep beep, just to be like We Seriously Want You To Shut Up, which I thinkmakes sense for all his placements bc they’re all like. Gemini Moon: Yup double geminilove this obnoxious legend!!! (jk I like geminis but. It’s true. I am also sayingthis as a gemini moon). Pisces Rising: Taking some morestuff from Mo’s book, these lines I think really resonate with Richie’s outwardself and how he deals with the world: “You want life to be perfect and since itisn’t, you choose not to see what you don’t want to see”. That is SUCH a Richiething to me. “At parties Rising-Pisceans are vivacious and verbal (sometimesyou talk too much); you enjoy performing in front of a group. A talent formimicry makes many Pisces Ascendants turn to theater”. Literally Richie… the Voices,the talking too much and wanting to entertain the losers…. Those with Piscesrising are also very romantic and want to live a fantasy life, but they can bevery sad and moody especially because they feel like they are destined to bealone. (Richie yearning gay….) They are also quite disorganized but work wellin groups (let’s go loserssss clubbbbbb!!!).

There’s This Girl... (Sidney Crosby Imagine)

The first imagine I’ve ever finished. Hope you enjoy :)

Summary: Sid is acting weird, and you’re determined to figure out why.

“Move over,” a familiar voice orders from your right. You don’t even have to look up to know it’s Sid, because he has a habit of following you out of the arena when you get off shift after a game. You look anyway, because though he follows you, he doesn’t usually sit down. Usually, he stays standing upwind, while you sit on the wheel stop in the mostly-empty parking lot and smoke your post-work cigarette. That’s how it’s been for the past year or so since he first followed you through the arena and outside, where you’d called him out for being creepy before he even knew you knew he was there.

He gives you a look and you scooch over, making room for him on the cement block, which he promptly takes. Something must be wrong, because not only is he sitting, he’s sitting downwind, and he hasn’t started talking or asking questions yet. That’s all this really was- sometimes he would vent to you, or he would ask you questions about yourself. It only kind of counted as friendship, more like friendly acquaintances than real friends. But you’re pretty much incapable not trying to help people, so you exhale, prepared to ask what’s up.

“Can I have one?” he asks, right at the tail end of your exhale, which you choke on just a bit. The look you shoot him is so incredulous you can feel it. He’s never asked for one, not even a drag of yours, and he’s more likely to remind you that smoking is bad for you than anything else. You can tell by the slight change in his expression that he’s trying to appear confident and sure, but is embarrassed by your reaction and probably not very sure at all. The thought briefly surfaces that you shouldn’t be able to read him this well, but it’s not important right now, so you ignore it. Ignore it in favor of the thought that something must be very, very wrong.

“You can have one,” you say, pausing just enough that he looks vaguely pleased, “If you tell me what’s wrong first.” His face falls from vaguely pleased to vaguely annoyed in a fraction of a second. But you know that smoking on an impulse is almost always just a way to escape something upsetting, so maybe if you get him to talk about it, he’ll change his mind about the cigarette.

“It’s nothing,” he says, very deliberately not-pouting as he crosses his arms. It’s defensive posture, especially from him, and it reminds you of when you first met. When he followed you all the way through and out of PPG Paints on a whim, apparently because he was leaving late and saw you saying goodnight to your co-workers. It only took you a flight of stairs to realize he was there, if not who he was, but you’d been curious as to how far he’d follow you. So you’d just kept saying goodbye to those who were left as you passed them, acutely aware of his presence behind you. Honestly, your intention was to lead him outside and confront him, set him straight like others who had followed you in the past (with less savory intentions). But when you made a smart comment upon exiting the building and found out it was Sidney Fucking Crosby trailing you, well. Confrontation wasn’t worth your job.

Luckily he ended up being a cool dude, who was just fascinated that you seemed to know everyone you passed- and they seemed to know you- and he wanted to see how far that extended. Most everyone who stays as late as you has been here at least as long as you, so you’d had two years to get to know them at the time. Of course you were going to say goodbye. After that, he’d taken to following you out with increasing frequency, hanging around to talk while you smoked and usually a while after.

“Doesn’t sound like nothing,” you reply, because it doesn’t. Maybe he had spoken and acted more or less like this in the beginning, but he hadn’t been this difficult or defensive in months. They won tonight, but he could still be upset about his playing, because he’s overly critical like that. But if it was a hockey thing, he’d just tell you. He’d never held back on that topic before, and you can’t imagine he would now. Which means it’s something personal, which you’re really not trying to deal with, but will because he’s your kind-of-friend.

“It’s not a big deal,” he insists, continuing, “The chirping just hit a sore spot today.” Sid had been chirped for just about everything ever, over the years, so you can’t imagine what was said that could upset him. Let alone upset him this much.

“What was it?” you ask, tacking on, “If you don’t mind me asking.” Because you’re polite. He takes a deep, harsh breath and sighs it out between his teeth. By the look on his face, he’s thinking of what was said, and reliving that distress.

“There’s this girl,” he says, like every word he gets out is pulling a tooth, “That I like. And they were saying how I wasn’t good enough for her.” Which is kind of ridiculous, because, as previously stated, he’s Sidney fucking Crosby.

“And I know they were just joking,” he continues, posture getting less rigid the more he speaks, “But they were right, and it just got to me.” His body kind of slumps once he’s finished, arms falling to his lap and spine curving like he’s trying to curl in on himself. The resignation coming off of him in waves is enough to tell you that reassuring him of his worth is not a conversation you’re going to win right now.

“So your solution was to take up smoking?” you ask, tone perfect to convey how ridiculous that is. His cheeks go red and you’re trying not to think about it, because he’s trying to come up with an explanation and you’d like to hear it. Also, you try not to think about things like his blush in general, because you’re hoping that if you staunchly refuse to acknowledge your crush on him, it will go away. It hasn’t worked so far, but it doesn’t hurt to try. It does hurt to hear him talk about his own crush though- probably on one of his model friends- but you’re just gonna push that down to deal with later. Or never.

“You said it helps with your anxiety,” he says, which is true, “So I thought maybe…” He trails off and you kind of understand his train of thought. If smoking helps with anxiety, maybe it helps with all negative emotions. Not quite right.

“Picking up an addiction’s not gonna help you here, bud,” you reply, stubbing out your cig, “Especially one that’s gonna affect your playing.” You put the butt in an old empty pack, close it, and put it in your jacket pocket. You don’t get up, though, because this conversation’s definitely not over. The situation is odd though, because you’ve at least met most of the team, and you can’t imagine them intentionally saying something to upset a teammate. Besides the obvious issue of a distressed teammate not playing as well, they all seem like pretty decent guys who just wouldn’t do something like that.

“I played like shit tonight anyway,” he grumbles, “Did you see my stickhandling?” Which, okay, so you wouldn’t say he played like shit, necessarily, but. It definitely wasn’t his best performance. But that’s not really the point, because you know all the tricks in the book for deflecting and redirecting, and this is definitely that. Not even a great attempt at a redirect either, so he must really be upset about this chick.

“Nice try changing the topic,” you respond, “But you’re not getting out of this one.” Sid looks a tad sheepish at being caught, and doesn’t elaborate, but doesn’t make a move to leave either. It’s like he wants to talk about it, but something is stopping him. Embarrassment, maybe? He’s probably not used to not being “good enough” for someone, so maybe he’s just uncomfortable with the experience. Whatever’s going on in his head, he’s not offering to share, so you’re gonna have to lead him.

You could probably go home now and avoid it, if you wanted. Just tell him you had to get going; you know he wouldn’t object. But you’ve got a too-big heart and he’s your kind-of-friend, so you just brace yourself to listen to your crush talk about their crush. It won’t be the first time.

“What did they say that got to you?” you ask, pulling out another cigarette. This conversation definitely warrants chain smoking, as far as you’re concerned. Sid lets out another sigh, wiping his hands down his face.

“Just-” he pauses, takes a deep breath, continues, “Just that she’s so nice, and helpful, and can make friends with anyone. And she’s beautiful, and smart, and competent, and a million other amazing things.” Even though that’s an exaggeration, you can see where Mystery Girl being a genuinely good person would make a normal person feel inadequate, but Sid’s not a normal person, he’s Sidney fucki-- you get the point.

“Okay, so?” you say, and he looks a bit baffled at your response already, “You’re nice, and helpful, and friendly, and beautiful, and smart, and competent, and a million other things too. Why is she any better than you?” You’re being maybe a bit too honest, because you mean all of those things sincerely. He’ll probably take it as flattery from a sort-of-friend, though, like he always does. He always gives you this look when you compliment him, like it means something more coming from you, or he cares about your opinion, or something. He’s giving it to you now, but looks away into the middle distance before you can start making it deeper than it is. Even when you think the world of him because you’re maybe in love with him, just a little bit, he never sees it as anything other than friendship. It’s whatever. You’ve been rejected before. It’s fine.

“It’s just, they said…” he takes a long pause, looks away from you, buries his face in his hands, “They said she’s independent. That she doesn’t need me.” Okay, you know he doesn’t mean independent negatively, because he loves an independent woman, but. But you can understand that most people want people to need them. You don’t necessarily agree, probably because you’ve never needed anyone, but you understand.

“I mean,” you prepare yourself for the rant you’re about to go on, reminding yourself that it’s for Sid, so it’s worth it, “Isn’t that better, though?” Sid looks understandably confused, but you soldier on.

“If someone needs you, of course they’re going to be with you and stay with you,” you explain, not really wanting to bare such a fundamental worldview, but willing to for his benefit, “They don’t think they have a choice: they need you. But if someone doesn’t need you and still wants to be with you… that’s a decision. And it means that every second, they have the option to leave you. But they don’t.” Your cig is burning out, but Sid looks like he’s starting to get it, so you ignore it.

“I’d much rather take someone who sees every part of me and still makes that choice, every second, to be with me,” you say, “Than someone who stays because they think they can’t live without me.” You don’t talk about how you’ve never needed anyone, or how you felt broken for years because of it, or how long it took you to come to terms with the way you love. Love as a decision, not a necessity. How you allow people in your life because you want them there, not because you need them. How you choose every moment to keep Sid around.

“I never really thought of it that way,” he says quietly, looking down at his hands now that he’s taken them away from his face. You give him time to think, re-lighting your cigarette and taking a long drag. You hold it until your lungs burn, then hold it a moment longer. It’s not the first time you’ve had to talk a crush into going after their own crush, but it’s still not a fun time.

“Well, now you have,” you say around the tail end of your exhale, forming the words with dancing trails of smoke, “So go for it. If you want her that badly, why waste an opportunity, y’know?” By this point, you just really want this conversation to be over. He can go get with whatever runway model friend of his that he’s clearly head over heels for, and you can go home and drink ‘til you pass out. It’s a win-win, really.

Except he’s not leaving, and you don’t want to leave until you know he’s okay, so you’re both just sitting there silently on a slab of cement in an empty parking lot as you blow smoke as far away from him as you can. This isn’t even close to the worst experience of your life, but it sure feels like it right now, in the moment.

“So you think…” he trails off for a solid 30 seconds before finishing the thought, “You think I should just go for it?”

“Yeah, man,” you reply, grinding the cherry into the blacktop with probably more force than necessary before putting the butt into the same empty pack, “As long as you’re not an asshole about it, she won’t mind you shooting your shot, even if she’s not interested.” You put the old pack back in your pocket with the new one and your lighter. Like 99% of the time, any decent person isn’t gonna begrudge someone making a move on them as long as they’re not creepy about it. And you can’t imagine Sid being creepy or douchey about, like, anything. Except hating Giroux, maybe.

“What do I say, though?” he asks, his tone a bit weird, “To make her understand?” You’re not exactly the most romantic person out there, but it’s not exactly difficult. Like. Just stick to the basics.

“I don’t know,” you shrug, “Just tell her how you feel, I guess. Make your intentions clear.” He’s giving you this weird look, so you turn your head back to center so you don’t get distracted trying to figure out what he’s thinking. You can’t help but fiddle with your hands a bit, not quite rid of that old nervous habit.

“Hey, Y/N,” his voice is gentle, edged with something... sentimental? Maybe? “Look at me.” You obey despite yourself, turning back toward him, forcing yourself not to read into his expression, or the situation, or the full-on butterfly rave taking place in your stomach from the way he’s looking at you.

“I know I’ve only known you for a little while,” he says, reaches out to stop your fidgeting hands by taking one in his own, “But I think you’re the most amazing person I’ve ever met.” You- okay- this is- what?

“The guys were chirping me about liking you,” he carries on steadily, like he’s not redefining everything you know about the world, “Because you’re so far out of my league.” Which is fucking ridiculous, because he’s Sidney fucking--

“Because it doesn’t matter that I’m a professional athlete when you’re you,” he’s just trucking on through, and you know you’re doing a pretty good impression of one of those novelty singing bass decorations right now, but he doesn’t seem to mind, “Because you’re the type of person who stays half an hour after your shift just to listen to some old man whine about his crush.” Yeah, his crush that’s apparently on you, of all people. You’re not-- you’re not even close to Sid’s type. You’re too.. Not-model-y. You’re not someone you’d ever see on a runway, or in a magazine, or up in the family-and-friends box at a goddamn NHL game. You don’t fit the profile, and for a moment you’re afraid that he might want you to change so that you are, but then you remember it’s Sid you’re talking about, and that fear seems ridiculous. Then again, this whole scenario feels ridiculous.

“I’ve been fascinated with you since that first night, when I saw you address everybody by name, and ask about their families and lives, and remember the details even though you insist you have no memory,” you do, and it’s true, you don’t remember shit, ever. Except your co-workers’ lives and likes and dislikes and okay, maybe you have a good memory when it comes to things you care about.

“I’ve been keeping myself from asking you out for a long time,” he confesses, “And now I have no idea why I was so scared. Because at the end of the day, you’re still Y/N, and you’re still my friend.” The if nothing else goes unsaid, but you know him well enough to hear it in your head anyway. You shouldn’t know him well enough to know that. It’s only been a year, like three months of which he wasn’t even here for. He was in Nova Scotia, with his family, who he might have sent you pictures of, because you might have maybe exchanged numbers a while back, and maybe you’ve been missing all the signals that mattered.

“Holy shit,” you say, finally finding your voice, “You’ve been flirting with me.” It’s not even a question, because as much as you’d bullshitted yourself for months, there’s no other explanation for some of his behavior. Oh fuck, you’re oblivious.

“Yeah,” he laughs, “Apparently I’m not good at it, though.” You’re both so goddamn stupid. You’ve been flirting with each other for a year, and neither of you noticed. All because you both thought the other was too good for you. What kind of romcom nonsense…

“We’ve been dancing around each other for a goddamn year,” you say, still astonished at both the fact that Sidney fucking Crosby likes you, and that you’re apparently both Moron4Moron with how blind you’ve been. He opens his mouth as if he’s going to say something in response, but you just squeeze the hand he’s entwined with yours and bring your free hand to his cheek.

“Sid,” you cut him off, dead serious, “Ask me.” His eyes are so dark in the dim light of the parking lot. You feel like if you look into them while he asks, you’ll fall down a rabbit hole you may never find your way out of. You’re not opposed to the idea.

“Y/N,” there’s a long pause, during which neither of you dare to breathe until he finishes the thought, “Do you want to grab dinner some time?” There’s a beat, and you both break out into peals of laughter, his honking mixing with your snorting to make possibly the ugliest and most beautiful laughter ever created. The two of you end up leaning against each other, random points of contact wherever you’d happened to land. You’d pinch yourself to make sure this isn’t an elaborate dream, but your knee is still throbbing and your head aches where it had smacked into Sid’s, so you don’t need to check. Even if it was a dream, you’d gladly stay in it as long as your brain let you. You have to pull your head back a bit to look him in the eye, eagerly jumping into the wonderland that is loving Sidney Crosby.

“The guys always call you my girlfriend,” he says, “Guess they’ll have a reason now.” A wide, crooked smile overtakes his face, and you finally, finally allow yourself to appreciate it.

In Defense of Doom Bringer

Since I noticed a similar argument about Dominator and Doom Bringer that I did to Nova Imperator and Rage Hearts, I'm doing another analysis to explain why I think the canon path was the one that was picked to be it. I'm gonna do a similar kind of set up that I did comparing Nova Imperator and Rage Hearts. I'll first analyze and identify the problems with Dominator that make him... less "qualified" for the position of being canon based on the trends I noticed for both the canon and alternate (which I usually just call "alt") routes.

But first! Story time!!

I am an Add main. The thing that makes Add different than the other three characters I main though, is I ended up maining him completely on accident. See, my older sibling mains Battle Seraph Eve. And I made the mistake of partnering my Lunatic Psyker, who I was unceremoniously terrible at, with my older sibling's Battle Seraph. I googled him multiple times and just COULD NOT figure it out (my older sibling did the same and couldn't figure him out either) and I'm pretty sure it's because of all the fancy lengthy terminology cuz my eyes crossed at "Dynamo configuration mode". My older sibling ADORES Battle Seraph and wanted to play her every. Single. Day. And having partnered my Add with their Eve, I reluctantly played a character I was terrible at every. Single. Day. My older sibling carried me until... it was either late Lanox or early Atlas and I can't remember which exactly. THAT was when I finally managed to figure Lusa out. I came to really like playing Add once I finally figured him out. So yeah. I accidentally main Add.

ANYWAY, on to the proper analysis now. First and foremost. I've identified three problems?? Again?? Is that just gonna be the format for these??

Thing the first is Dominator's obsession with perfection.

I googled perfectionism for this analysis, just to be sure I knew what I was talking about. So enjoy this mini essay (paraphrased mostly from wikipedia) on that. Perfectionism, in its toxic form, drives the perfectionist to attempt to achieve unrealistic goals or unattainable ideals. It's also often accompanied with depression and low self-esteem (amongst other things those two are just the most common and I didn't want to list out every last thing). Perfectionists tend to dissociate themselves from their flaws and can not be very critical of themselves while simultaneously being overly critical of others in their attempts to achieve their idea(s) of virtue (or more accurately the illusion thereof) while hiding their flaws. "According to [Allan] Mallinger and [Jeanette] DeWyze, perfectionists are obsessives who need to feel in control at all times to protect themselves and ensure their own safety. By always being vigilant and trying extremely hard, they can ensure they not only fail to disappoint or are beyond reproach but that they can protect [themselves] against unforeseen issues caused by their environment."

The first part about seeking unrealistic goals or unattainable ideals is just a general Add thing tbh. They all do it and I'd be a fuckin hypocrite to claim otherwise in a character analysis. But the rest of that is all very specific to Dominator. He does not take criticism. He believes himself to be perfect while the world is what is wrong. And he hyper controls his environment to make it something he can feel safe in. And that kinda leads right into my second problem.

Thing the second is Dominator's need for a bubble. He literally creates his own virtual world just so that he can function. That virtual world changes to his whims. It is everything he needs it to be whenever he needs it. And he created it after the real world failed to accommodate him. After the real world failed to be what he needed when he needed it. I really get the feeling Dominator is trying to make a world he understands and can predict. He's trying to make the world he's ended up in through no choice of his own, one that he can be comfortable in.

Thing the third is the edge he's teetering on the verge of dropping off of. I really do get the impression that Dominator's entire route is scared and hiding behind confidence and a pretty face. As long as he's confident and seems like he's got his shit together, then he'll be taken seriously instead of being taken advantage of. But because of his bubble and his inability to take any sort of not positive comments about himself, he is probably the most severe case of character stagnation I've observed despite it being a trend in the paths I've put together into the alt routes. And a big trend with the canon routes is character growth. That kinda knocks Dominator off the possible list. On top of that, pulling him out of the bubble that causes his stagnation is more likely to result in a path to self-destruction that he won't be able to get off of before it reaches its end.

Now comes Doom Bringer. But first. I need to acknowledge a few things about him. He has also stagnated. The difference is in severity. Doom Bringer is more aware of the world and his place in it simply because he hasn't closed himself off to it (yet he might and I wouldn't be surprised). I think he'll also require being set on a path of self-destruction to get out of that stagnation. The difference there is, based on my analysis, I think Doom Bringer is more equipped to get off that ride so to speak and I'll be talking about that more a little later on in this. Doom Bringer also doesn't have nearly anywhere near Dominator's sense of responsibility and self-preservation or impulse control. Almost all of Doom Bringer's inhibition comes from something outside of himself, whether it's someone else or the situation he finds himself in (it's usually someone else probably). It also says a lot in Dominator's favor that he is the only Add that hasn't merged himself with something yet. Cuz I get the feeling that shit is REALLY dangerous. Also the fact that Doom Bringer merged himself with his Nasod Armor simply because he essentially got tired of it's upkeep says a lot about how well he thinks of possible consequences before taking an action (I'm pretty sure he just fucking doesn't). That being said, you can be completely irresponsible (comparatively speaking) and completely lack self control (again comparatively speaking) and still be farther along in your development than someone who has more control than you. And since Dominator is VERY focused on image while the only one who cares less than Doom Bringer is Mad Paradox, it makes sense that it would be like that.

The big thing Doom Bringer has going for him is his connections to the El Search Party. I'm gonna be honest. That's the only BIG difference between him and Dominator that I think makes him more "qualified" to be a canon route. I have no doubt Doom Bringer never intended to build connections with the search party (and I'll be doing an analysis later about those connections and how strong I actually think they are). He just wasn't as good as Dominator in closing himself off to them. The reason I've come to believe this is because I've noticed that in the Doom Bringer job path Add's face is very expressive, much more so than the other two. That in turn makes him easier to read whether he tries to hide things or not. People that are easily read tend to subconsciously drop their walls faster than they originally intend to and I don't think he was an exception to this. I think Doom Bringer accidentally got attached to the El Search Party and I'm not even sure he's FULLY realized it yet. But its that attachment and that relative openness (compared to Dominator we are still talking about Add after all) that puts Doom Bringer as the Add that is on the road to starting a recovery from all of his trauma. I think it's going to take slamming face first into the brick wall of failure and dealing with the resulting emotional turmoil but as I've said. Doom Bringer is the most equipped to be able to do that and come out the other side okay. Even if it is only because he has less reason to be apathetically accepting of it than the other two Add paths.

Anyway it was actually in trying to convince my younger sibling that Dominator was just as worthy of compassion as Doom Bringer and Mad Paradox that made it so I figured all of this out at all. And I honestly struggled with it a bit because while the canon paths are often the healthiest it was difficult to put into words why I think Doom Bringer fits that bill better because the two paths are so similar once you actually look past their exteriors. That and Dominator being the more responsible of the two made it harder for me to feel like I could adequately explain my thoughts on it without it sounding like I was just making excuses for Doom Bringer and/or hating on Dominator.

One last thing. I haven't really seen any other debates between character job paths that I think will prompt me to make another post like this one??? Like I saw something about Catastrophe deserving to be canon but it was just one person and it wasn't prevalent enough in the wider community that I feel the need to make a whole long winded analysis on it. So unless something new comes up or someone asks specifically I won't do another post like this. I'll be posting the path organizations I made based on the trends I've referenced both in this post and the Raven post in a bit. Once I finish detailing it out.

So I definitely agree you use high Fe - your discussion of how you treat people as a group and tend to impose your opinions despite people’s wishes, but also how you like to be very expressive with your affection sounds in line with dom Fe. I think a lot of the problem-solving/overcomplicating issues could therefore come from inferior Ti.

Based on your age, I could actually see either ENFJ or ESFJ making sense. There’s possible evidence for either high Ni or high Si - high Ni and the lack of data, high Si and the enjoyment of something repetitive and detailed - and so the development of new impulses could be ‘sensory’ (ENFJ developing Se) or ‘novel’ (ESFJ developing Ne). More detail to clarify that would be helpful!

For your enneatype, could you clarify if you do or don’t feel remorse after an anger outburst? I’m undecided between enneagram 1 or 9w8. A 1 would be more aware of their anger and actively controlling it and feel deeply ashamed of most outbursts, but a 9w8 would be less in touch with it but also less remorseful if they did erupt.

Okay, I’m an open-minded guy. Let’s take a look here.

Dudeblade, you just screamed at a guy for defending Jaune, calling him a plebian. You’re as open minded as the alt-right, using even the same words.

Okay then. Let’s look at this misspelling-filled mess here. “jaune didnt suffer consequences” Okay then, let’s take a look as to what consequence jaune faced.

Dudeblade, there is ONE spelling mistake. Considering you are friends with Sokumotanaka who makes regular mistakes like this in his post, you really shouldn’t talk because this means that if someone agrees with you, you won’t dare to criticize them for anything even as they make the same flaws you berate in others.

And immediately, you just disproved yourself anon. If jaune’s actions result in Weiss getting hurt, then that means that the consequence for Yang rushing in to save Blake could have ended with Blake’s arm getting cut off, and that would have been Yang’s consequence.

Thing is Dudeblade: Your statement implies Yang and Jaune have the same character when that couldn’t be any more false. Yang is a confident character with immense strength so having all that confidence destroyed and her strength rendered useless drives home how she needs to change both to Yang and to the audience. Jaune meanwhile is weak and so self-loathing he’s SUICIDAL so hurting him is gonna do NOTHING. To make him suffer like Yang, the narrative needs to hurt the people around him. Because THEY are what he cares about, not HIMSELF.

But that’s not how it works. If Blake getting her arm cut off came as a result of Yang rushing in to save her, then that means that Weiss getting hurt came as a result for jaune wanting revenge.

Let’s continue with the rest of your poorly-researched rant.

Actually, if you’re gonna portray Jaune trying to avenge his best friend as bad, why don’t we go ahead and portray Yang’s actions that way? After all, Adam was facing her and not doing anything to Blake when she lunged at him so saving her friend is out, all that remains is that Yang was getting revenge for Blake.

Except Jaune had mental illnesses at the time and Yang didn’t. So even then, you should be bitching about Yang.

Rush in to save Blake.

And if Yang isn’t supposed to be so over-reliant on her semblance, then where is Weiss’ lecture about being so over-reliant on her summons?- Where’s Blake’s lecture about being so over-reliant on her shadow clones?

B. He’s known Yang longer than you. He’d know that she’s risked her life all because she relies on her semblance.

And D. I counted the number of times Blake used her Semblance. Five times. That is less than once per Volume since one of those times was her Trailer. COmpare this to Yang who uses it seven times despite the fact that she spent two Volumes learning that she shouldn’t do that so much and we see a bigger reliance with her.

As for Weiss: you are assuming that no one will. She has only NOW gotten in trouble due to using her Summons. There hasn’t BEEN any time to call her out.

It would have been fine here if you used his post to bring up specific points within to debunk Anon but you just used the whole thing so his bias can be used to discredit him.

Follow-up point, since I know that there’s probably going to be a response from someone about how “Adam moved away from Blake!” or how “Blake had aura!” or some shit like that.

For the first one: That’s a swordsman technique called Iaijutsu. it involves lunging toward the opponent while drawing the sword in a (typically) offensive manner. To be blunt: Adam didn’t step away from Blake, he lunged towards Yang with his attack.

And as for the second argument: Why would Yang know something that the audience didn’t know until Blake used her semblance to get away?- Typical armchair critic. Can’t take into account the situation that they’re in, so you criticize the character for (gasp!) not knowing something the audience knows!

If that’s how we’re doing it, then every single person at that school is an idiot for not knowing who Cinder is.

I can see Raven lunging in one...but not Adam in the other. His model is perfectly stationary after his slice aside from his arm moving. But if he lunged, his legs should have some follow through as well. Not only that but Adam’s stature before his attack doesn’t show him bowing down to lunge, it shows him standing. Only thing he could have done there is duck.

I might be an idiot and I couldn’t catch Adam’s movement but there’s nothing to indicate to me he lunged.

B. However, if we take a look at what ACTUALY people say, you start to see why that armchair critic stuff is bullshit:

For fuck’s sake, you literally said that Weiss getting hurt is jaune’s consequence. Why the fuck should I take you seriously when you think that someone else getting hurt as a result of your own actions should be a sufficient punishment?

Let me inform you YET AGAIN about the events of Gurren Lagann. Kamina was killed as the result of Simon’s actions which sprurred his character development. Why? Because he LOVED Kamina like a brother while conversely he hated himself. Because having Simon hurt as the result of his actions wouldn’t hurt nearly as much or even at all.

If you rushed into a fight that you couldn’t win, and then someone else got hurt because of your actions, would they say that that casualty is your consequence?

YES.

Because they got hurt as a result of MY actions. Because I was reckless, one of my friends got hurt. It's the same logic Blake used when she ran away. And for good reason.

They would get on your case for causing that person to get hurt. Given the state the writing is in, there’s no evidence to believe that jaune will be suffering similar consequences. Especially since he got validated for starting that fight by getting to unlock his semblance. Now he gets to feel useful. Now he can feel like he can make a difference.

A. That’s...a consequence. Also why would you try to make the suicidal person feel worthless?

B. What state? You’ve thoroughly proven you can’t criticize worth a crap.

And C. No, he got to fix his mistake, just like Yang did.

So you’re basically upset Jaune got treated the same as Yang?

Or is it because something positive happened to Jaune and you’re so full of hate you think that’s a cardinal sin?

At the end of the day, jaune got positive reinforcement for his reckless actions, while Yang got negative reinforcement for hers.

Even more so in the narrative. Yang gets to have agency in her life as she chooses to recover and chooses to become better after she chooses an action that had bad aftermath but still succeeded in what she wanted while Jaune fails yet again to accomplish his goal, gets jerked around by the narrative yet again and even his development is just the result of the narrative jerking him around in a good way.

Or in other words: Yang gets more agency from her actions while Jaune gets less. (Which considering Jaune has next to none is pretty sad.)

Also, punctuation. Learn about it, jaune-anon.

I would like to remind people that:

A. he supports people who regularly forget punctuation and misspellings and yet they get praise from him.

And B. He’s now berating someone for having a different opinion than him after saying he was open minded.

Chosen Children ZOdiac

Here is my own headcanons about the Chosen Children and the Zodiac signs they are. I know most people like to put one zodiac sign per kid. But I just couldn’t do that.

Taichi - Aries -

Strengths: Courageous, determined, confident, enthusiastic, optimistic, honest, passionate

Weaknesses: Impatient, moody, short-tempered, impulsive, aggressive

Aries likes: Comfortable clothes, taking on leadership roles, physical challenges, individual sports

“ Aries rules the head and leads with the head, often literally walking head first, leaning forwards for speed and focus. Its representatives are naturally brave and rarely afraid of trial and risk. They possess youthful strength and energy, regardless of their age and quickly perform any given tasks. “

Taichi was shown a lot in Adventuer to be reckless and go head first into things without a second thought. Like when Sora is kidnapped by Nanomon, only then does that start his journey to think things through. But he still has the determination to finish things. Like in the latest movie, Symbiosis, he came to the decision to save Meicoomon, eveen if that meant killing her. Because he trusted Meiko’s word. Despite protest from Yamato, he was driven to accomplish that.

Yamato - Scorpio

Strengths: Resourceful, brave, passionate, stubborn, a true friend

Weaknesses: Distrusting, jealous, secretive, violent

Scorpio likes: Truth, facts, being right, longtime friends, teasing, a grand passion

Scorpio dislikes: Dishonesty, revealing secrets, passive people

“ Scorpio-born are passionate and assertive people. They are determined and decisive, and will research until they find out the truth. Scorpio is a great leader, always aware of the situation and also features prominently in resourcefulness. “

Taichi and Yamato commonly butt heads because they are so passionate in their beliefs. Yamato always tried to be rational and more realistic, while Taichi thought more emotionally what was best for everyone.

Yamato was shown to get so jealous of Taichi that it caused a rift between the team later in Adventure. Yet, it was what brought them together. Yamato still looks to take care of everyone when Taichi ‘dies’ in the end of Symbiosis. He is very much leader #2 in the group.

Sora - Cancer

Strengths: Tenacious, highly imaginative, loyal, emotional, sympathetic, persuasive

Weaknesses: Moody, pessimistic, suspicious, manipulative, insecure

Cancer likes: Art, home-based hobbies, relaxing near or in water, helping loved ones, a good meal with friends

Cancer dislikes: Strangers, any criticism of Mom, revealing of personal life” As children, they don't have enough coping and defensive mechanisms for the outer world, and have to be approached with care and understanding, for that is what they give in return.

Sora is a hard person to read. She keeps all of her feelings to herself and it eventually consumes her, via the dark cave. As she grew to understand her Mom and Piyomon, she was able to help others in return. Even in tri. she is seen helping others get through their hard moments (Meiko and Mimi) and making sure everyone is happy, making food for everyone in the Digital world. Also calling everyone in Confession to make sure everyone is taking care of themselves.

Mimi - Aquarius

Strengths: Progressive, original, independent, humanitarian

Weaknesses: Runs from emotional expression, temperamental, uncompromising, aloof

Aquarius likes: Fun with friends, helping others, fighting for causes, intellectual conversation, a good listener

Aquarius dislikes: Limitations, broken promises, being lonely, dull or boring situations, people who disagree with them

“ The biggest problem for Aquarius-born is the feeling that they are limited or constrained. Because of the desire for freedom and equality for all, they will always strive to ensure freedom of speech and movement. In Adventure, Mimi hated having to fight, watching comrades die one after another. She even needed to leave the group to clear her head. But in the end she found her will to fight and even brought an army with her to help fight the Dark Masters.

In tri. she is much more carefree and expressive. But it comes off as selfish because she’s not taking everyone’s thoughts into consideration. Feeling like she was being constrained bothered her to the point she wasn’t motivated to do the cafe anymore and didn't want to trust her instincts to fight to get Meicoomon back.

After realizing it’s ok to be a little loud, she continues to wow the group with her food creations. and wild bikini party ideas

Koushirou - Virgo

Strengths: Loyal, analytical, kind, hardworking, practical

Weaknesses: Shyness, worry, overly critical of self and others, all work and no play

Virgo likes: Animals, healthy food, books, nature, cleanliness

Virgo dislikes: Rudeness, asking for help, taking center stage

“ Virgos are always paying attention to the smallest details and their deep sense of humanity makes them one of the most careful signs of the zodiac. Their methodical approach to life ensures that nothing is left to chance, and although they are often tender, their heart might be closed for the outer world. Koushirou has always been lost in his own thoughts, continuing to ramble on even if no one was listening. He takes pride in being able to find the answer to any solution. But loses face when he couldn’t find one.

He is also very loyal to his friends, even putting himself below them. He calls everyone with “-san” even if they are younger than him. He has grown out of this and learn to even see people’s emotions and react to them more. But in tri., it was evident he struggled with giving himself some credit.

Jou - Taurus

Strengths: Reliable, patient, practical, devoted, responsible, stable

Weaknesses: Stubborn, possessive, uncompromising

Taurus likes: Gardening, cooking, music, romance, high quality clothes, working with hands

“ Practical and well-grounded, Taurus is the sign that harvests the fruits of labor. They feel the need to always be surrounded by love and beauty, turned to the material world, hedonism, and physical pleasures. People born with their Sun in Taurus are sensual and tactile, considering touch and taste the most important of all senses. Good ol’ Reliable Jou. He is the papa to the group like Sora is the Mama. Taking people’s health and safety into consideration, and even more so when he’s the oldest and must take responsibility.

In tri. especially, he struggled to not see things from a realistic stance. Why couldn’t the other Chosen take care of the Digimon? Why did it have to be them again, when it was time ot be an adult? Jou learned to not be so strict with materialistic views.

Takeru - Strengths: Generous, idealistic, great sense of humor

Weaknesses: Promises more than can deliver, very impatient, will say anything no matter how undiplomatic

Sagittarius likes: Freedom, travel, philosophy, being outdoors

Sagittarius dislikes: Clingy people, being constrained, off-the-wall theories, details

“Sagittarius is extrovert, optimistic and enthusiastic, and likes changes. Sagittarius-born are able to transform their thoughts into concrete actions and they will do anything to achieve their goals.Like the other fire signs, Sagittarius needs to be constantly in touch with the world to experience as much as possible. The ruling planet of Sagittarius is Jupiter, the largest planet of the zodiac. Takeru may be young in Adventure, but it didn’t stop him from being maniplutive and playful when he had to. To get away from Puppetmon, it was a great show of his quick thinking and playful behavior. Then in 02 he disliked Daisuke’s ideas that they couldn’t possibly hurt MetalGreymon. Takeru understood there was no other way.

In tri. his sense of humor and teasing is showcased. He always says inappropriate things at inappropriate times. It’s to change the subject, but let’s be honest, he’s a little shit. Even so, he is still to help and give a hand. Still trying to protect Hikari all these years.

Hikari - Pisces

Strengths: Compassionate, artistic, intuitive, gentle, wise, musical

Weaknesses: Fearful, overly trusting, sad, desire to escape reality, can be a victim or a martyr

Pisces likes: Being alone, sleeping, music, romance, visual media, swimming, spiritual themes

Pisces dislikes: Know-it-all, being criticized, the past coming back to haunt, cruelty of any kind

“Pisces are very friendly, so they often find themselves in a company of very different people. Pisces are selfless, they are always willing to help others, without hoping to get anything back.”

Hikari has always been the one to harbor bad feelings onto herself. Even when it’s not her fault, HIkari always blames herself. Something that Taichi knows of and destroys him knowing he almost killer her once.

Her soft and altruistic is what causes her to be so vulnerable, so much so that it’s taken advantage of in tri. to create a monster and target the real world. Her vulnerability in 02 led her to the Dark Ocean, and her anguish escalated in seeing her brother die, creating a fusion to destroy the real world.

Daisuke - Leo

Strengths: Creative, passionate, generous, warm-hearted, cheerful, humorous

Weaknesses: Arrogant, stubborn, self-centered, lazy, inflexible

Leo likes: Theater, taking holidays, being admired, expensive things, bright colors, fun with friends

Leo dislikes: Being ignored, facing difficult reality, not being treated like a king or queen

“People born under the sign of Leo are natural born leaders. They are dramatic, creative, self-confident, dominant and extremely difficult to resist, able to achieve anything they want to in any area of life they commit to. Daisuke strives for Hikari’s heart and Taichi’s admiration. When the group gets beat down, it’s him that picks the pieces up and comes back stronger than before. He knows how to cheer his friends up and cheer them on. He does have his down times, losing face when people ignore him and laugh at him. But it doesn’t take long her him to make a come back.

He learned to be patient with Ken, that trying to force him into the group wouldn’t work. That Ken needed time. There were times that he refused to listen to anyone else, that his way was the only way. His stubbornness has been good and bad. He almost got Vmon killed because he didn’t want to fight an infected MetalGreymon, but on the flip side. He refused to back down against BelialVamdemon, which led to victory in the end.

Miyako - Gemini

Strengths: Gentle, affectionate, curious, adaptable, ability to learn quickly and exchange ideas

Weaknesses: Nervous, inconsistent, indecisive

Gemini likes: Music, books, magazines, chats with nearly anyone, short trips around the town

Gemini dislikes: Being alone, being confined, repetition and routine\

Miyako quick witted mind has saved the kids in several situations. The Big House Episode with Arukenimon is a great demonstration of that. She was able to use a big computer to switch the audio around to make the Digimon go back to normal.

But she has had her moments where she got a head of herself and almost got herself killed. She had to learn to slow down a little and think things through. She wasn’t sure how to feel about Ken after he turned good. Or even to beat him when they found out Ken was the Kaiser in the first place. ]

Iori - Capricorn

Strengths: Responsible, disciplined, self-control, good managers

Weaknesses: Know-it-all, unforgiving, condescending, expecting the worst

Capricorn likes: Family, tradition, music, understated status, quality craftsmanship

Capricorn dislikes: Almost everything at some point

But he grew to learn there was a difference. That even though Ken once did so many awful things, he could still be a good person. Or that his dad was friends with Oikawa who was now doing terrible things. It showed him there was a lot of grey in that world of black and white.

Ken - Scorpio

Strengths – Although it can sometimes be hard even for Scorpios to accept this fact, their greatest strength is their sensitivity. While many Scorpios hide from their own emotions, not knowing what to do with their intensity and depth, when they find a way to regenerate and forgive those that hurt them, they become amazing healers, psychologists, partners and friends.

Weaknesses – Once they do get hurt, this pain goes too deep and they have the urge to turn to vengeance, often becoming filled with hate and anger. These emotions can get destructive, to others and themselves, and their true challenge is to accept them as normal and usual, in order to set free and turn to the future instead of staying buried in the past.

Ken was faced with hatred of his brother when people constantly praised Osamu, but never recognized his accomplishments. He soon grew vengeful and wished for his brother to disappear, when it actually happened it affected him greatly, to the point the dark spore and influence from Oikwawa made him into a different person.

After Ken comes to his senses, he is greeted with such grief that he even wants to end his life at one point. The whole second half of the series is him learning to forgive himself and not let his past ruin him.

Meiko - Virgo

Strengths – Virgo is considered the most intelligent sign in the zodiac, as the place where Mercury is exalted. They are in fact truly practical and smart when it comes to everyday issues. Analytical and deep, their greatest strength is their mind at they should use it to resolve matters of life that obviously present to them for a reason. Clean and thorough, a Virgo will make everything that was broken, tainted or spoiled, clean, fixed and working again. This is why they are often found as healers, for some Virgos have a talent to fix broken hearts, souls, egos or bodies.

Weaknesses – the greatest weakness of any Virgo hides in their emotional world. While they rely on their mind to give them all the answers they seek, lack of understanding can lead them to hurtful, irrational experiences that they simply don’t understand. They need to accept their fragility, sensitivity and approach matters of the heart as valid, important and sensible. The other weakness these individuals have to face is lack of awareness of their self-worth, shown through their need to always think less of themselves, as if they cannot do anything that is satisfying enough.

For years Meiko had been hiding shame and resentment of herself under a veil of shyness. She thought she could control Meicoomon, as long she was there, Meicoomon wouldn’t go berserk.

When she realized Meicoomon was the source of the infection that caused her friends so much suffering, she kept blaming herself, even running away. She felt she had no right to be around the DIgimon or her friends.

Even with the reassurance of the others, it was hard to have faith in herself and to think good things about herself. To see what was good in her.

Meiko has shown to use what she learned from everyone else to help in her goals. Reiterating SOra’s words back to her, and having to come to the conclusion that ultimately, her partner would have to die in order to save both worlds. Despite the harshness of the decision, Meiko still very much loves Meicoomon

Daigo - Sagittarius

Strengths – Sagittarius is an adventurer, both physically and mentally. People born in this Sun sign have a broad mind and they are able to change perspective with ease, until they find the right version of words spoken, events or reasons for anything they want to examine. Highly adjustable and with a deep understanding for different people, nations, countries, governments and in general – ways of life, they blend in perfectly with the natives, wherever they are. They need enough space, don’t want to be contained in their home, by their partner or in any other way. Movement will fill up their batteries, energize them and make them confident and strong. Independent, optimistic and sincere, this is a friend you want in your life, especially if you need someone to help you find hope or a purpose to anything that troubles you.

Weakness – The greatest weakness of Sagittarius is their inability to find focus. As his time as a Chosen Child, he was the leader of the group, and probably was their hope in many desperate situations.

He teaches Calligraphy as his part time job and helps Taichi to find a good career path for him to take.

Maki - Capricorn

Strengths – The greatest strengths of a Capricorn are his ambition, discipline and patience. With their ability to plan ahead and think of all necessary steps in their chase for a certain goal, they are often successful in their career path. Reliable and dedicated, these individuals often have trouble opening up to other people, but become trustworthy and stable in a relationship once they decide to be a part of it. With their endurance and patience, there is hardly anything that seems impossible.

Weaknesses – While they set extremely high goals for themselves, they often do so without the proper basis in their hearts. If they separate from their emotional needs and stay focused mainly on the image they will show to the rest of the world, they easily become unsatisfied, grumpy, and even angry at their circumstances, however successful they might get. The lack of compassion that comes as a product of their own, personal lack of satisfaction, leads to them becoming cold, distant and detached from others, while selfishly pursuing their goals with no regard to other people along the way. Their direction needs to be founded in their true personality, creativity and their hearts, in order for the rest of their life to have true quality.

Maki had plans of a reboot since University years and saw an opportunity to turn her plan into action with Meicoomon and eventually “Gennai’s” help. She carefully thought of the plans and actions in hand in order for the plan to work.

But one thing she didn’t foresee was what the reboot could mean other than reviving perma dead Digimon. Bakumon not remembering her then running away caused her to snap. The circumstances caused her to have an emotional break and end up in the Dark Ocean, begging for Bakumon to come back to her.

Pisces: Class-clown goofy and thrives on attention. Charismatic and friendly. Super musically gifted, successful, but self-sabotages SO HARD. Alcoholic and overly-sentimental. Fearful of failure, loss, would rather feel numb than actually feel good or bad (hope is terrifying) and would rather inconsistently over-invest and pull away than make meaningful connection. I think the reason certain people are so pressed over the trailer line is that certain people have NEVER forgiven Sansa for being in puppy love with Joff or telling Cersei about Ned's plans. And they never will. Female characters aren't allowed to make mistakes apparently.

Yeeeaaahhh I think there are a lot of things that people are unwilling to forgive Sansa for. But honestly, I think a lot of it is mistakes and moments of what people perceive as weakness that imo are honestly just part of being human. Sansa is naive and idealistic, she’s often times too trusting, she can be impulsive and over emotional, she can be overly critical and highly judgemental both of herself and of other characters like Arya, she can be selfish and vapid, she wants to believe people are good regardless of how much evidence she has to the contrary… To me this is all part of her humanity. And I guess for some people it’s more understandable or relatable or forgivable than for others.

I have kind of talked about this before I think, but AGoT made it verrryyy easy to dislike Sansa imo; and I think initially to a certain extent we were supposed to, which is really kind of a shame. If you look at the original outline, Sansa was meant to have a completely different arc. But honestly its always been very clear to me that GRRM decided he loved the character he had created in Sansa, and that she was meant for a different path. I feel like he just hadn’t really ~committed~ to that change all the way yet, especially in the early parts of AGoT, and so the first impressions we get of Sansa don’t necessarily create a positive frame of reference. In a lot of ways I think she initially plays into parts of the “evil step sister” and “stupid girly girl” character tropes; and unfortunately, those types of characters are ones we have really been conditioned not to like.

This article I read about the original outline honestly sums it up absolutely perfectly imo:

Sansa marries Joffrey and betrays her family, and it doesn’t go well for her. This is obviously something Martin was originally building up to in the first book, but then changed his mind, and Sansa’s been getting shit for it ever since.

I think GRRM figured out that he loved both Stark sisters and that they were both incredibly significant for the overall story. I also think he figured out that he couldn’t fit everything Arya’s character was supposed to do into one character arc so he split it into two different characters (and then gave some of Sansa’s less sympathetic actions and attributes to Margaery Tyrell). I love the way GRRM has written Sansa and Arya! I love how he created two such different sisters with such contradictory strengths, temperaments, skills and traits; and then sent them on these seemingly opposite character arcs that, if you think about it, actually parallel each other in so many deeply important ways. And he did it SO WELL, its such a cool dichotomy!

But first impressions are powerful… And I think there are a lot of people who definitely have a hard time getting past AGoT Sansa, and have a hard time accepting that her character could have grown or developed.

Neverwinter was a decently large city. By the standards of Faerun, it was the city; big and bustling and full of places that a small boy could expect to find reasonable amounts of trouble.

Angus McDonald loved Neverwinter.

To be more precise, Angus McDonald loved the city of Neverwinter. The people, on the other hand, he could have happily lived without. It wasn't that they were terrible people or anything, but apparently it was impossible for an adult to see a child competently handling the investigation of a series of grisly murders without thinking that the child was somehow damaged. Or something.

Angus didn't really understand the problem, but going to work for the Bureau of Balance had shown him a completely different world of social interactions.

Not one of his co-workers treated him as anything less than a capable person in his own right. No one tried to keep him away from the realities of what they were dealing with, or tried to stop him from reading the material that was necessary for his research, or kept things from him 'for his own good'. It was so refreshing that Angus had spent the first two weeks of his employment drifting around in a cloud of happiness.

When he was assigned as the Seeker Liaison to the THB, he'd been sworn to do the best job of any Seeker in the history of the Bureau. Taako, Magnus, and Merle had all been really mean to him on the train, but they'd also been really cool. Angus was determined to make himself indispensable to the three.

Unfortunately, they didn't actually seem to need him around. Even flying by the seat of their pants they managed to scrape through any situation they came up against. The one time they actually called on him for help, Angus got them in trouble for cheating and the Stones of Farspeech promptly stopped working.

Angus had been terrified that they'd died, and some small part of his mind had been positive that the Bureau was going to throw him out on his ear. He'd just lost them their only Reclaimers, after all.

But then they'd come back, bickering and biting commentary and just as wonderfully awful as they'd ever been.

Angus had silently resolved to never put them in that position ever again.

He had to be better.

He'd meant it, after all, when he'd said that he loved them. It was a strange, twisty love that he wasn't sure how to handle, but he did love them.

Asking Taako to teach him magic had been a weird, wild impulse, but it had paid off almost instantly. Learning from such an accomplished wizard had driven his studies further, faster than he could have dreamed. Sure, he had to do a lot of the theory work on his own, since Taako tended to gloss over theory with overly complicated explanations that didn't actually make sense, or with airy handwaves and "don't worry about it"s, but that was fine. Angus was used to doing bookwork on his own time.

Besides, all of that led him to where he was now, leading Taako through the streets of Neverwinter towards the Merchant's Quarter.

"So what you gotta know about components," Taako was saying, swinging his umbrella idly, "Is that there's the standard components, and then there's the ones that work for you, you dig?" Taako didn't wait for a response, instead continuing the absent minded lecture. "Take Grease. Some books say to use pork rind, some say to use butter. I use butter 'cause I can just transmute that shit out of whatever and it works fine. Also, pork rinds are fucking disgusting. But Sleep is different! Sleep," he said, gesturing grandly and nearly hitting another passerby in the face with his umbrella, "is commonly accepted to have three different possible components. Those are...?"

"Fine sand, rose petals, or a cricket." Angus replied promptly, glancing up just in time to catch the brief flash of pride across his teacher's face.

"Right," Taako agreed, pausing with his hand on Angus' shoulder as a riderless horse bolted down the street. Several shouting men chased after it, and after the entire procession was past he gently shoved Angus forwards again. "But I don't use any of those."

Angus frowned. "You don't? But Sir, I've seen you cast Sleep, what component do you use?"

"Technically it's two components," Taako said smugly, "But the combination makes my sleep spells stronger, so they last longer."

"What are they?" Angus asked again, and Taako grinned at him, then caught sight of a sign half a block away from them and lengthened his stride.

Angus tried to lengthen his stride as well, but ended up having to trot after Taako, dodging around other pedestrians as best he could while trying to keep up.

Ducking into the small, odd smelling storefront was something of a relief, and Angus took a deep breath of the familiar scent, then let it out with a small, happy hum.

"This is the Apothecary you said was the best in Neverwinter?" Taako asked looking around at the barrels and jars and piles of herbs and potions and components that filled the plain wooden room.

"Oh yes, Sir. Teakin always had what I was looking for when I needed something of an experiment, or to help solve a case! If you need to restock your component supply, this is definitely the best place!" Angus hesitated for a moment, torn between wanting to tug Taako further into the store so he could show him the tiny flasks of liquid gold that were cool to the touch, and not wanting to invade Taako's swath of personal space.

"Hmm..." Taako's eyes half shut, and he took a deep, testing breath in through his nose, then let it out slowly through his mouth. When his eyes opened fully again, the expression on his face was oddly considering.

"All right Ango," he said, "Since you know the place so well, then I gue-"

"Angus?"

The voice was just as Angus remembered it. Deep, gravely, and somehow as inviting as a warm fire after a long day out in the rain. Angus didn't even bother to conceal his glee as he turned to greet the speaker.

"Mr. Teakin! Hi! How are you?"

Teakin, huge and grizzled and still wearing the stained leather apron that Angus had never seen him without scowled thunderously at him. "How am I?" he demanded, and leveled one thick finger at him. "How about this, boyo, how about this? How about you tell me why you vanish off the face of Faerun with no word to the wise about any trip or nothing, and then pop up all 'Hi Mr. Teakin, how are you?' ? How about that, huh? Where the hell have you been, boyo?"

Angus flushed and carefully avoided looking up at Taako.

"I, ah... I got a job?" he tried, and Teakin's eyes narrowed, shifting from Angus to Taako.

"Really."

Angus tried to ignore the flatness in Teakin's voice, "Oh yes, it's great! I get to learn all sorts of fascinating things, and meet so many amazing people, I love it a lot!"

"You do, do you?"

Teakin's face had started to turn red, and Angus looked up at Taako. Maybe Mr. Taaco was doing something to antagonize Teakin? It was sort of a thing he did to most people, so-

But no. Taako's face was hard and cold. His arms were crossed, and his fingers were caressing the handle of his umbrella where it hung from his arm with an absently dangerous air.

"Um."

Now Angus was close to panicking. "Um... Oh! This is my teacher, Mr. Taaco! He's teaching me magic!"

Narrowed eyes moved back from Taako back to him, studying his face.

"Magic?"

Angus nodded earnestly, "Oh yes, Mr. Taaco is very good at magic, and at teaching. I can already do two whole first level spells!"

"Barely." Taako said automatically, "Ya still need some work on Sleep, boychik."

But now the two adults were relaxing; Teakin plopping heavily onto the stool behind him and leaning forward to prop his elbows on the counter in front of him and Taako uncrossing his arms and going back to using his umbrella as a cane replacement.

"Magic huh," Teakin said thoughtfully, then, "You'll be wanting components then?"

"That was the idea." Taako agreed lightly, "Ango-Jango said that this place was the best in Neverwinter."

Teakin snorted, "Try the best on the Sword Coast. Me 'n the family grow 'n harvest most of our stock ourselves. Whatever we don't have, we can get."

One of Taako's eyebrows arched skeptically, but he pulled a slip of parchment out of his sleeve and stalked off down one of the aisles of shelves.

"Sorry for forgetting to tell you," Angus offered sheepishly, and Teakin waved him off.

"Don't worry about it, but next time make sure you drop us a line, okay?"

"Yessir!" Angus chirped, then jumped when Taako stomped back out of the shelves and caught him by the collar before dragging him back the way he'd come.

In the split second Angus had before his view was obscured by shelving, he could have sworn that Teakin was trying to smother an amused smile behind his hand.

Angus watched as Taako picked and pulled things out of crates and bins, tested the consistency of salves and oils between his fingers, and sniffed everything as critically as any schoolmarm looking for flaws she might be able to criticize. In the end, however, one thing after the next passed inspection and was thrust unceremoniously into Angus' arms. When they finally made it back up to the front of the store, Angus could barely see over the pile and Taako had to put everything on the counter because if Angus' grip had shifted even minutely it all would have ended up on the ground.

And then.

Then came the haggling.

And Angus was stuck watching in half horrified awe as Taako turned into a monster.

Everything was in question. The spices weren't at peak freshness. The oil was slightly off. The scent in the candles was more rose than magnolia, and did Teakin really expect to be able to get four silvers for an ounce of gryphon blood?

In the end, neither men looked satisfied. But Taako still forked over the amount they'd agreed on, and Teakin still wrapped everything up in thick brown paper and even tossed in a bag for Angus to carry everything in, and somehow, as soon as it was all over, they were smiling at each other.

"Ya got good shit here." Taako said waving airily at the shop, "Nice doin' business with ya."

"You're one hell of a hard ass," Teakin said, shaking his head and trying to hide his grin, "feel free to come back any time, as long as you bring Angus along. I gotta make sure you're taking care of the kid."

"Yeah sure." Taako agreed breezily, and swept out of the store, hooking the curve of his umbrella around Angus's upper arm in passing and pulling him along.

Angus barely managed to get out his farewell before the door slammed shut behind him and Taako's umbrella unhooked from his arm.

Angus managed to hold it back for half a block before he broke.

"Sir, with all due respect what the hell was that!?"

"Hmm?" Taako glanced down at him, eyebrows raised questioningly, "What was what?"

"That!" Angus waved his free hand back toward Teakin's apothecary.

"Oh that." Taako turned back to watching where he was walking, studiously nonchalant. "Honey, when you're on the road as much as I am you learn a few tricks to getting the best out of skinflint merchants."

"But you never do that to Garfield!" Angus protested, and Taako snorted delicately.

"Garfield never implied that I-" He glanced down at Angus again, and his mouth snapped shut. "I don't really care about dealing with Garfield. The dude creeps me the hell out."

"I see." Angus said, carefully filing away the unfinished sentence in the back of his mind so that he could mull it over later, in private. "Could you teach me?"

Taako startled, actually pausing mid stride so that he could look at Angus head on.

"What?"

"Will you teach me to bargain?" Angus said patiently, "Obviously it's a skill I'm going to need in the future, and if you teach me, then I can go and get whatever components that we both need if you can't for some reason, and-"

"Yeah sure." Taako interrupted, "But later. Not now, yeah? We've already got all the shit we need, so we should head back before the idiots manage to walk off the edge of the goddamn moon or something."

"Yes Sir!" Angus agreed happily, and fell in step with Taako, trying not to grin when he noticed that the elf had shortened his stride so that the two of them could walk side by side.

Are you one of those people who always tend to think critically in issues? >> I think critically as often as I can, but I make no promises.

When was the last time you had any kind of pork? What kind was it? >> It’s been a while. Probably bacon on a sandwich or something.

Do you believe vampires are real? Not the stereotypical Twilight kind. >> I mean, Twilight’s vampires aren’t very stereotypical either. That aside, I don’t think vampires are real, but there are people I know that believe themselves to be vampires, and who am I to say they’re not? So, you know. It’s whatever, honestly. I’d just rather not be bitten by one, myself.

Is there anyone out there who can give you butterflies in your stomach? >> I’m still not sure I exactly know what that means, but maybe like... Preston Garvey. Or Idris Elba. Lul.

Are you someone who has to hide the things you like around friends? >> No.

Have you ever been to a porn website? Were you addicted to it afterword? >> Sure. No, I didn’t just... get addicted to porn. I think it takes more than just one viewing of a porn site for that to happen.

What is the most disgusting thing you think the opposite sex can do? >> I don’t have an opinion for the most disgusting thing a human can do.

Would you rather be able to teleport or freeze time? Which one seems best? >> I’d rather be able to teleport. Time is weird enough for me without having the power to actually fuck with it.

Did your mom ever fix your eggs and bacon into a smiley face as a kid? >> Neither “Mom”, “eggs”, nor “bacon” were at all a part of my childhood.

Are you someone who always looks for sales when you go shopping somewhere? >> Yes. And clearance bins/racks.

Are you constantly re-arranging your bedroom? Or do you not like change? >> I don’t do anything with the bedroom. I’d like one day to just have a room that’s mine that I can set up and organise the way I like -- a little sanctuary, so to speak -- but this apartment doesn’t have the space for that.

Who would you consider the best teen actor or actress out there now? >> I don’t even think I know any teen actors.

When did you last cuddle up next to someone and watch a movie? >> I don’t remember.

Where would people most likely find you out on the weekends? >> Out? i? HA out where. :/

Do you like soda pop? If so, which is your favorite and least favorite? >> I don’t really drink soda. When I do it’s like... bourgeois soda. I like ginger ale, but like, not the fake kind.

Does it bother you when people burp around you or do you do it too? >> It doesn’t bother me. I do it quietly because that’s how I prefer to be, but I understand that that is not universal.

Do you have any siblings you’re embarrassed about being related to? >> ---

Which noises do you currently hear right now? Can you control those? >> My keyboard, mostly. Sparrow existing. Distant traffic sounds from (I assume) M6 or maybe Eastern Ave. Normandy, my computer, humming. No, I can’t control any of these noises, although I sure wish I could have a nice quiet keyboard... (Maybe I should have bought one. But I never know whether they’re actually gonna be quiet or if it’s just false advertisement.)

What is one thing you’ve never understood throughout your life? >> I mean, plenty of things, I’m sure.

When you see an old person do you think ‘sweet’ or ‘creepy?’ >> Er. I don’t think anything like that when I see an old person. I don’t think much about them at all unless something about them intrigues me.

What is it that makes old women want so many cats in their life? >> Because they’re easy to take care of and they’re soft, and they (the owners) enjoy their (the cats’) personalities, and because they’re living creatures with whom to interact when human socialisation is either sparse or no longer interesting. I mean, that sounds right, but maybe I’m wrong.

What is one kind of music you’d do anything to not listen to in the car? >> Er, I don’t know. Polka?

When was the last time you babysat, if ever? Did anything bad happen? >> Never.

How many times a day do you wash your face? Do you wash it really good? >> Sometimes I forget to wash my face at all.

Would you consider yourself to have a boring life or a really exciting one? >> I think I have a simple life, but not a boring one. It’s just not full of thrills, but it’s still full of fun and things of interest.

Do you ever talk to people you met online through webcam? Or is that weird? >> It’s not weird, I just don’t think I could focus well on a webcam conversation. Also, internet connectivity problems / unevenness tend to make those complicated.

Who was the last person you kissed and why did you kiss this person? >> Sparrow. Because that’s a thing people in relationships do? idfk I don’t analyse this shit

How many fish have you owned in your lifetime, so far? Did they all die? >> None.

When do you think it’s the right age to pass away? >> What?

If you were to get drunk right now, how would you most likely act? >> I don’t even remember what being proper drunk is like. I’d probably just be talkative at first and then get sleepy. I’m not an interesting drunk because being drunk generally isn’t all that interesting.

How many people have you kissed in your lifetime, so far? Who were they? >> Too many to remember by now.

Are you going to post this on a social networking site after you take it? >> Yes.

Is there something people in general do that bothers you a lot? >> Refuse to think about why they do things, especially things that are harmful to others. Refuse to work through uncharitable feelings towards others before just making the other person suffer out of reflex (the revenge impulse, in short).

Has anything supernatural ever happened to you? What were these events? >> Sure. Yeah, I’m not typing all that out here, now.

How many concerts have you seen so far in life? Were they good ones? >> So many. Once I was in the mood and I actually listed them all (or as many as I could remember, anyway), but that’s a rare mood and that’s why I did it then, while I felt like it. Yes, they were all good.

Do you like doing anything your friends wouldn’t expect you to do? >> Maybe? Not usually intentionally, I guess.

Can you sing very well or are you considerably tone deaf? >> I sing all right.

When did you last make a survey? How many people took it so far? >> A long while ago. I don’t think anyone took it, actually, unless I’m forgetting.

Would you ever consider becoming a scientist? Why would you or why not? >> No. I love science, but not from an actual “I want to do this as a career” standpoint. I want to enjoy it from a less stressful perspective.

Where is your favorite place to go when you’re feeling sad and alone? >> Xibalba.

Have you ever had to call poison control while you were babysitting? >> I’ve never babysat.

Do you ever look back on the past years and wish you could go back? >> No.

When is the next time you’ll talk to the cousin you’re closest to? >> ---

When was the last time you bought new sheets for your bed? >> I don’t buy sheets. It’s Sparrow’s bed, I just happen to sleep in it. It’s too bad, though, because I’ve always liked soft, dark sheets. (Hers are crisp and mostly white.)
