I have to stop procrastinating about getting my writing published, because other media keeps (inadvertently) stealing my ideas.
Ken's arc in the Barbie movie (minus the whole "becomes enamored with the patriarchy, overthrows his homeworld's matriarchy and turns it into a dudebro fantasy" business) sounds all too similar to Prince Zeran's arc in my novel An Eternal Crown. A pretty boy who lives in a matriarchy and has to cope with feeling useless, unappreciated, and lost without his designated female love interest, yet shoved aside by her. His storyline can also be viewed as a comment on how women are treated in the real world – and how it's equally wrong when the genders are reversed – since he's based on a female character, Pamina from The Magic Flute.
When I do get An Eternal Crown published, I'm concerned that people will think I'm knocking off Greta Gerwig's ideas, even though I started writing it way back in 2011!
Still, when the day comes when it is published, you all have my permission to write parodies of "Just Ken" about Zeran.

Jon Snow's Perpetual Princehood
Promise me, she had cried, in a room that smelled of blood and roses. Promise me, Ned. The fever had taken her strength and her voice had been faint as a whisper, but when he gave her his word, the fear had gone out of his sister's eyes.
"Mother." There was a sharpness in Robb's tone. "You forget. My father had four sons."
"The Night's Watch will make for Hardhome. I ride to Winterfell alone, unless…" Jon paused. "… is there any man here who will come stand with me?"
The roar was all he could have hoped for, the tumult so loud that the two old shields tumbled from the walls.

i like to think that the avatars actually hated the eyepocalypse too.
it's explicitly shown that not!sasha did not enjoy the mortifying ordeal of being Known. helen probably hated the fact that she was constantly Seen, a distortion doesn't want to be understood. simon fairchild can say whatever he wants, but as a vast-aligned girl myself i just know he missed the sky. jude perry, who spent a good majority of her first appearence bragging about how superior the desolation was, was forced to serve what she saw as an inferior power. every Hunter lives in fear of becoming Prey. etc etc.

OC INFO: Princess Sarisa (An Eternal Crown) (my Tumblr URL namesake)
Thanks for the template, @ariel-seagull-wings!
FULL NAME: Princess Sarisa of Ardazera.
NICKNAME(S): None.
FACECLAIM: Pegah Ahangarani
or Tijan Marei
BIRTHDAY: February 7th.
ZODIAC SIGN: Aquarius.
SEXUALITY: Heterosexual.
GENDER: Female.
BIRTHPLACE: The islands of Ardazera.
LIVES IN: The valley of the Sisterhood of Nira.
NATIONALITY: Ardazeran.
FAMILY: The King and Queen of Ardazera (parents); four brothers and two sisters.
CHARACTERISTICS: Idealistic, philosophical, compassionate, hot-blooded, proud, determined, brave, stubborn.
LIKES: Social justice, gender equality, religion and philosophy, books, caring parental figures, a sense of home, brave people, handsome men, flute music, the colors red and magenta.
DISLIKES: Tyranny, injustice, cowardice, dishonesty, sexism, being oppressed or objectified, homeless wandering, snakes.
OCCUPATION: Formerly a princess, now a priestess of the Sisterhood of Nira.
WEAPON OF CHOICE: Dagger; magic flute.
OTHER PERSONAL INFO: She couldn't bear the stifling, objectifying life that was forced on her by her homeland's patriarchal culture, or her royal parents' abuses of power over their subjects. So she left her family behind, disguised herself as a peasant, and ventured out into the world. Eventually, after months of wandering and working as a farm laborer to survive, she discovered the realm of the god-king Voreyo, who offered her a home in his palace and his son's hand in marriage if she would help him to defeat the Sisterhood of Nira, who had "stolen" much of his power. Sarisa set out to obey him, but when she reached the Sisterhood's domain, she found that they were an idealistic, benevolent order who improved the lives of the people, and that Vorteyo had been their brutal oppressor. Over the next several months, she lived among the Sisterhood and learned from them, and realized it was with them that she belonged.
NAME ANALYSIS: It means "gentle princess" or "flower princess," which reveals more about who her parents wanted her to be than about her true self. It's also the name of a red berry-like fruit native to the Philippines, but I didn't know that until after I had named her.
