Afro Nation Announces Return to Detroit with Afro Nation Detroit 2024 in August
Tumblr media
A vibrant celebration of Afrobeats, Amapiano, hip-hop and Global Black music, Afro Nation unites the culture for top notch events across the globe. Today, the respected festival brand announces its return to the Motor City, as it prepares for Afro Nation Detroit 2024. The second annual version of the Motor City festival promises performances by some of the most exciting musical acts from Africa and its diaspora, plus additional activations and events that pay tribute to the city of Detroit's contribution to the global music scene. The only scheduled Afro Nation event in the United States in 2024, Afro Nation Detroit returns to Bedrock’s Douglass Site from August 17th-18th, 2024.
The inaugural Afro Nation Detroit, Afro Nation Detroit 2023, was an unstoppable party, full of brilliant music by artists of all genres. Burna Boy and Davido headlined, standing up for a Nigerian contingent that also included artists like P-Square and Victony, and South African artists like DJ Maphorisa and DBN Gogo tore it up on the Piano People Stage. The festival also brought plenty of American heavy-hitters, including Latto, Ari Lennox, Coi Leray, Masego, and local hero Dej Loaf.
Afro Nation Detroit 2023 drew tens of thousands of attendees each day to Bedford's Douglass Site, once a historically significant housing project in Detroit that was the first federally funded housing project for African Americans in the United States and the former home of legends like Diana Ross and Smokey Robinson. Before the festival, Afro Nation hosted a series of Homecoming Conversations for industry professionals and artists, covering topics including musical innovation, entrepreneurship, and more.
Afro Nation is quickly becoming an institution in Detroit, engaging the community and presenting some of the finest music in the international scene. Stay tuned for much more information about Afro Nation Detroit, including the full lineup, in the coming weeks.

Afro Nation festivals are dedicated to providing a global platform for music from Africa and its diaspora. In addition, Afro Nation teams with BBC Radio 1xtra and the Official Charts Company to host a weekly UK Afrobeats Chart Show, and in 2022, Afro Nation partnered with Billboard to present the first-ever U.S. Afrobeats Chart.
With more milestones to cross and many unforgettable sets in the near future, Afro Nation is primed to shine an even brighter spotlight on some of the most exciting artists in music today.

My thoughts on Lesserafim's bside "Smart"
Context: I'm a first generation immigrant, so my opinion may vary.
To be honest, I don't really have a problem with kpop artists taking inspiration from Afrian culture, in fact it makes me happy seeing my culture being recognized. However, I personally don't think this was the best way to go about it. The best way in my opinion was "Tinnitus" by TXT. Listening to the song and watching the choreo, it seemed like they were trying to do an imitation of Afrobeats and Ampiano but... idk.. (Also can we talk about the choreo?? Eunchae is 17!).
Another thing that kinda annoyed me was how they pronounced "Smart" and shi. Maybe it's just my personal ick but where did the accent come from???
I think why I really liked Tinnitus is that the inspiration was there, but they still made it sound like them (idk how to say it) but in simpler terms, they weren't really trying to "mimic" it in my opinion.
I guess my biggest ick of all is that companies do this typa shi and they won't involve black people AND be racist like tf?? How are you going to be racist to black people but want black creations into your craft???
Yeah that's my thoughts on it, other Africans can leave their opinions as well!

I will probably sound like a hater but I’m so sick and tired of white gays asking ppl to play beyonce and Rihanna at every show!!! Do you actually even like black music? Today I was dj’ing with a friend back to back. All we did was play black music. From the Caribbean islands to ampiano to house to techno to city girls to Sade everything on earth except for Rihanna and beyonce and you can’t enjoy yourself? You can’t listen to nigga music if it’s not by these two billionary women who are lowkey removed from the spaces of the everyday lives of black people? You can seriously only listen to these two ppl? And even fucking afrobeat the most saturated genre atm you can’t enjoy that? Actually kys

Am I the only one who dont like Tyla and her music? Water is such a basic pop ampiano song and so is True or Dare. Her work before those songs is also very basic like in general I dont see the hype
She’s new so she’s finding her sound. The label is probably just trying to push her for radio play and get her familiarized by the public
