Day 17- Location @paperartistcollective #amonthinpaper challenge I’m in Central Florida in the sunshine state. I’m in a great area where I’m about 45 minutes from the beach, and an hour away from Disney, Universal, and Sea World. We have crazy thunderstorms that make our hurricanes look tame. Our area has beautiful scenery with all the lakes and natural springs and we have an abundance of wildlife. You can see at any time black bears, deer, turkey, coyotes, Sandhill cranes, egrets, cardinals, armadillos, hawks, alligators, otters, raccoon, manatee, gopher tortoises, and bobcat! Not to mention so many crazy insects and bugs.... ever heard of the wheel bug? Yeah, look that nasty sucker up! Day 2: My favorite tool...Although I have many necessary tools in my studio, and I love having them organized to perfection on my pegboard, there are a few tools that really stand out for me. First thing that jumps to mind when I think "favorite tools" and I think about my hands. Every task, every artform, cutting, writing, typing, drawing, sewing, gluing....expressing...all of this is possible because of these two miraculous gifts. So there's that...but since I know people will actually be looking for tips on new tools, here are a few of mine. . A beautiful curved bone folder that fits perfectly in my hand (and hardly ever rips the paper) is especially meaningful to me because I got it when I took my very first book arts class in college and it is one of the few things that didn't burn in the fire. The end is more curved than pointed and it's not flat. . Next, these Olfa self-healing cutting mats are worth every penny... especially the ones with the detailed small measurements on it. Saves so much time cutting, measuring, and prepping the space. Get them in the quilting section at JoAnns...use a coupon. . @liagriffith 's @fiskarsamericas paper curling tool is also amazing. You should learn something new every day and every new skill can be a transferable skill. • If you had asked me 5 years ago if I would be a fulltime paper artist I would not have believed you but through daily experimentation, trial & error and believing in oneself, anything is possible. • This piece is made of leftover scraps. The paper art community on instagram has become almost like a virtual family since I started my own paper art journey. Prompt 26 • FAVOURITE COMMISSION / JOB for #AMonthInPaper by @paperartistcollective • This probably falls more under collaboration project than commission but hey. Always fun to share with you guys. • As a paper artist and designer I am always up for a challenge so when @byheathkane asked me to collaborate on his show #RicherThanBatman back in October 2021 to help raise money for @shpcharity I jumped in at the deep end. • I had been playing with this idea and technique of molding paper strips to a texture like the Queen of Heath's woodcut / halftone texture for a while. And I was actually myself surprised by the results. I definitely want to do more projects in this kind of style.
