hihihi moots as svt memes go!
i feel like i know you from somewhere, anon 👁️👁️ but i have a shit ton of those so LET'S GO. I'M DOING THIS FOR ALL MY MUTUALS (memes under the readmore)
@wheeboo still can't believe we're moots. anyway, i literally just clicked on this one solely for the captions, but i guess i just gravitated to seungkwan naturally. we're all shocked by capitalism, but ate rani would be the most shocked by it. (she'd hate gas prices here in the ph)
Tumblr media
@weird-bookworm these are all gonna be gose pictures, huh? /j this was literally her with me earlier this afternoon. like i was all "should i let the intrusive thoughts win", she came into the replies, then on discord HAHAHAHAH im so sorry you have to deal with my nonsense, but i am stuck with you like oxygen to blood cells.
Tumblr media

I FEEL LIKE THIS IS ALSO A THING WHENEVER AN ILLEGAL REQ POPS INTO THE ASK BOX. WHEN ARE WE GETTINBG AN UPDATE ON THE COUNT /JJJ
Tumblr media
@kyeomyun she's the homie frfr actually. jadaders would tbh go "that's unfortunate" with the biggest smile on her face if there's any minor inconvenience that happens to either you or her. it's either in a way where girlie is fr amused by your misfortune, or this is a call for help. she's going thru it @ school so hopefully she gets a break soon ^^
Tumblr media
@i-luvsang just for you, i'm getting an atz meme (and also bc its their 5th debut anniv <3). feel like marimoon would get the nearest stuffed animal in a shop, call for me, and do this with the blankest face they can manage. i'd lose my mind ofc i laugh at everything but especially shit like this. it's deadpan humor, i swear
Tumblr media
@hannyoontify KIKIEEEEEEE <333 DO YOU LOVE ME /LYR /J anyway, kie!! my homie kie, we miss you here at residencia misantropia. moving on, we have this lovely jeonghan screenshot from a knowing bros episode. feel like this is their mood sometimes. hopefully you're taking care of yourself, man! when you come back, we're here with open arms fr ong!!
Tumblr media
@joshuahonggf JIAAAA we don't talk much but i adore her sm. [img text's rough tr: i know you're getting nervous about tomorrow, sis] we'd probably be the type of homies who'd spam e/o on discord about a project we're grouped up in. or an exam. or a performance, one or the other. but we end up doing great anyway B))) we're cool like that
Tumblr media
@haowrld HI PRE 👉👉👉 abnother filo buddy of mine hehehe. wishing u luck on ur fic btw! i assign to you this woozi screenshot. because sometimes, we get those moments of having zero thoughts in our head. this is also at every writer ever, we're good at imnagining shit but actually writing it is either the hardest thing ever or it comes naturally. goodluckies!!
Tumblr media
@wqnwoos HANA WHO CAME BACK BECAUSE ANON CALLED THEM POOKIE 👉👉👉 /jjj but seriously, hana was one of the ppl i first followed after i discovered svt fics on tumblr. she's one of the firsy writer si followed!! but considerinh the fact that she used my iwn salt shaker threat against me, this is what they'd send me i think. idk. its lke 1:21 am im getting sillier with these
Tumblr media
@mach1nat1on YOU. ASSHOLE. TRAUMATIZER. IMN GIVING YOU THIS BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT I FEEL SOMETIMES WHENEVER YOU DO SOME SHIY IN THE PRIVATE SERVER. YOU HURT MY BBGS YOU HURT ME!! hi ! i was wondering if there were any videos that helped you learn gif making or if you were open to talking about how you developed your gif making process ? (sry I’m on anon I just get nervous af telling people I’m a fan l o l but your work is grade a+)
hi anon!! ahhh thank you so much and i'm so happy you want to learn how to gif <33
i'll link a couple of things in the answer and it's probably gonna get long, so i'll post the rest under the cut if you don't mind!
i learned almost everything i know from a kind friend who's really really good at making gifs and who has the patience of a saint cause she always answered all my questions when i was feeling very much like a monkey pressing random things on the keyboard, love you @ueberdemnebelmeer 💕💕
now for the important stuff:
this is what i usually use to download the files i need: ❖ 4kvideodownloader for YT stuff ❖ this for twt clips ❖ this for IG videos ❖ and this one for ttk videos without the watermark my beloathed
and if you want to gif something the advice i can give you is to always, always go for the highest possible resolution for your files cause yes, you *can* gif something in 720p (looking at you, channie's rooms and twitter clips and youtube lives) but the gif will inevitably look kinda grainy in the end
2. "official" tumblr gif sizes:
Tumblr media
source but nothing stops you from experimenting a bit! like for my vertical sets i like to resize my gifs to 350x525px just keep in mind tumblr's limit for your file is 10MB (the new editor rounds it up so it's more like < 9.5MB)
3. the ✨tutorials✨
❖ this one was a huge help, it covers everything from the basics to the coloring to adding captions plus a couple of fancy effects and it has a lot of images which is great if you're a visual learner like me
❖ this one and this one by maja if you want to use vapoursynth & photoshop!
❖ this one if you don't have photoshop and would like to use an online alternative
❖ this post that saved my life re: the sharpening settings
and @usergif is my go to for tutorials when i want to learn how to make this or that effect!
i know it's not exactly a tutorial but i hope this answered your question! have fun <3

Digimon Adventure + 02 ~ + Alternate Universe Thoughts & Concepts featuring Characters/Duo/Ship/{02} O.T.P: Ken Ichijouji x Daisuke Motomiya [Daisuke “Davis” Motomiya in U.S.] + Semi Canon-compliant Post-02 A.U. {Alternate Universe} + a hypothetical character arc focused on Daisuke’s personal growth & internal conflicts vs + Ken’s own developed growth since the end of 02 & where the two ‘Coincide’, to help each other learn & grow even further "I stopped being the “Kaiser” because I realized that DIGIMON weren't a ‘computer program’ like I thought," Ken said through gritted teeth. "They were 'Real’, and they had 'Feelings’, just like 'Humans’, but I didn't ‘realize’ that at the time."
gifs by @izzyizumi / @koushirouizumi, {Do Not Re-post} {Do Not remove caption} (Please Ask to Use)
For usage rules plus further commentary, read under the ‘read more’!
...Ken’s eyes narrowed. “Now GET OUT of MY FRIENDS’ BODY!” - from Younger Me!Fic-verse, originally posted pre-2010 (a moment in which Ken faces off against a powerful Digimon) {on Ken’s own without better support available, for the first time} [and when your “{good} friend” is having something ELSE happen...]
“Temporarily” create “The Digimental of Miracles” with the Crest of Kindness Engulfed by Darkness - Qinglongmon; 02 Episode 37
"If your body hurts, you can go to a hospital and get it “fixed”, right? But if your SOUL hurts, [NO DOCTOR] CAN HELP YOU. YOU GOTTA TREAT IT YOURSELF."
- Novala Takemoto / Shimotsuma Monogatari {2004 Film}
“They {DIGIMON} may have started as simple data in a computer, but they’re ALIVE NOW.” - Mr. Haruhiko Takenouchi to Miyako; 02 Episode 33 (J.P.N Version)
Note: In my 02 semi canon compliant A.U.s, I often headcanon Ken as Bi{sexual} and/or Polyamorous, and Daisuke as some form of overall Queer. {Daisuke may also be headcanon’d as Polyamorous by me, depending on the A.U. I’m using for Daisuke.} However, in the fic I mention here, it is currently unfinished, and going through heavy revising. The original story was plotted and half-written long before Tri even debuted, much less “Kizuna” and “The Beginning”. Ken and Miyako are not quite ‘together’ yet, as the 02 Chosen have yet to graduate high school, but will soon, as they are very close to their final year of high school (taking place before the year 2012 in Digimon + 02 series canon). In this A.U., Daisuke and Ken are also not quite “together” yet, and neither has quite admitted any feelings for each other yet, but Ken in particular may still be “feeling” things around this point onwards...
(Currently, it is being heavily revised to see if my headcanons line up with what “The Beginning” eventually throws at me, so I hopefully won’t have to make too many more adjustments to its own timeline or my other headcanons.)
Stay tuned to see if I add more to this storyline in the form of possible future edits or one-shot ideas!

Myanmar OnlyFans Model Has Been Barred From Travelling
Tumblr media
Authorities failed to return documents for former doctor Nang Mwe San leaving her unable to travel! A Myanmar OnlyFans model has been barred from travelling after authorities failed to return her travel documents. Former doctor and OnlyFans model, Nang Mwe San, has blasted the Myanmar passport office as 'unfair,' after they didn't return her document, effectively stopping her from travelling. Nang Mwe San, who lives in Myanmar, qualified as a doctor at the age of 22 after her parents drove her towards that career path. But the OnlyFans alumni actually wanted to become a model and began participating in professional photo shoots after a few years of caring for patients in an hospital. LICENSE REVOKED The now-33-year-old Instagram model and influencer had her license revoked after refusing orders to stop posting racy photos. And she has recently found she is 'barred' from travelling. Reports show that the Myanmar model has been unable to travel to Bangkok because Yangpon's Passport Office has refused to return her passport. The model has attempted to renew her passport, and an anonymous source has claimed Mwe San had to cancel a trip to Bangkok where her father is undergoing unexpected medical treatment. 'UNFAIR' Officials have held onto her passport since 31st March, in what Mwe San has reportedly said is 'unfair' and violates her right to travel. The former doctor was, according to a source familiar with the situation, complaining of the decision the Yangpon Passport Office had made. Mwe San criticised her former employers in an interview with the New York Times, where she said: 'Here there is so much sexism. 'They don't want women to have higher positions. 'And they judge women on what we wear. 'They don't want us to wear trousers - they told me I have a behaviour disorder.' ONLYFANS Mwe San recently posted a photo of herself to Instagram with the caption: 'My life my rules.' She also cited Myanmar as her 'happy place' in a photoshoot uploaded to the social media app that showed Mwe San posing on a beach in a bikini with a horse. Mwe San also added that she makes more money as a model than she did as a doctor, raking in £5,600 to £8,000 a month with her new job, according to Coconuts. The OnlyFans star, who has 610,000 followers on Instagram, recently delivered a talk at Texas University where she spoke on the human rights situation in Myanmar. ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ CASTING DIRECT SUCCESS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN WE work work work work work work work work work ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ CASTING DIRECT ARE FIRST AND FOREMOST: Modelling Agency Advice Center Marketing Management Social Media Management Camsite Management Studio Account-Based Camsite Management Tubesite Management Fansite Management Profile Management Casting To Studios Worldwide Casting Casting For Movies - Broadcasting The World Casting For TV Webcam Model Management Female Webcam Model Management Male Webcam Model Management Transvestite Webcam Model Management Trans-sexual Webcam Model Management TIPS & STORIES Got a tip to share? These are some nice pictures I found too, but the artists didn't respond when I asked them if I could use their art / I found them after I already made the picture, so I'm not putting them in the collage: [Here], [Here], [Here] [Here], [Here], [Here], [Here] [Here], [Here]
Also, if there's a design that's not in here, I probably just didn't see it! Feel free to tell me about anything I missed!

“ remind me why i came here with you. “ you said bitterly, your arms crossed and an unamused expression painted your face.
“ because i’m a handsome and charming young man who you would say yes to  dating. “ he smiled, a little hope shining in his eyes. despite your rather aggressive outburst outside your classroom, jaemin appeared to be unbothered by your prickly self and you found yourself in your school’s courtyard.
“ i’m sorry, what ? “ you choked, assuming that you had misheard him. date na jaemin ? not in a million years.
“ fake date. “ he clarified, “ but if you want it doesn’t have to be. “ he teased with a wink only to earn no reaction from you.
“ i’m leaving. “ you announced, gathering your things from the rather small wooden table jaemin had chose to discuss ‘ something very important ‘, although it seemed to you that perhaps jaemin had drunken something this morning that’s been causing his rather absurd behavior.
“ come on, please ? it’s a win-win situation for the both of us. “ he pleaded, a put on his lips as he placed his hands together in attempt to gain your sympathy.
“ put the puppy look away, you’re not twelve. and how exactly is this a in for either of us ? this sounds like a bad remake of that one movie. “ you scoffed. you definitely didn’t have time for any cliches this year.
“ well for one, i know about your little crush on hyunjin and i’m pretty sure he does too. and to add on to that, he has a girlfriend. if you date me, it’s an easy way out. you don’t have to explain anything to him and for me. “ he said a little too smugly for comfort.
“ how does this benefit you then ? “ you asked, just to humor him a little. there was no way in hell you were doing this.
“ goeun basically went crazy when she heard you kissed me. if i can drive her crazy enough, she’ll be on her way back to me in no time. “ jaemin said enthusiastically with a little shrug.
“ that sounds healthy, “ you said sarcastically, rolling your eyes.
“ come on, don’t be such a sour puss. “
“ i’m not doing it “
“ please ? “
“ no. “
“ please ? “
“ so what, how is it going to work anyway. i’m not exactly excited to be all hugs and kisses with you around other people. “ you joked, raising an eyebrow at him. jaemin quickly dug through his bag before pulling out a black notebook that had white doodles and a messy ‘ jaemin ‘ written on the cover.
“ then we write a contract. “ he stated like it was obvious. you let out a small laugh only to realize he was serious as he started scribbling on the paper with a blue pen. “ number one, we can never tell anyone about this. “
“ no shit, genius. “
“ i’m gonna ignore that. number two, we have to have lunch together everyday. “ he said out loud, your first instinct was to disagree. you knew who he had lunch with. jaemin and his stupid gang of friends. you knew lee jeno because he used to live in the same neighbourhood but the rest you had only heard of. they all seemed to have nothing much in common yet they were all still a close band of friends. atleast that’s what it seemed like from an outside.
“ then you have to drive my sister and i to single every single day. “ you countered only to earn a satisfied smile from jaemin. ‘ am i really agreeing to do this ? ‘
“ deal. “ he said with a big grin on his face. “ oh and, you have to got parties with me. “ he added, quickly writing more words down into his notebook. jaemin’s handwriting was . . . alright. there was a reason no one ever asked him for notes. aside from the fact that he never really payed attention in class. though, you couldn’t really say anything, you were the exact same.
“ you have to help me with my sister’s bake sales. “ you said, grabbing the notebook and pen from his hand before jotting down your addition.
“ okay, we’re getting distracted. put down, number five, we have to kiss in public atleast twice a week. “ jaemin said, leaning over the table to peak at the notebook.
“ what ? no, we are not doing that. “ you protested as you shook your head in disagreement. kissing na jaemin once was enough.
“ then how will people believe we’re dating ? goeun isn’t exactly going to be jealous if we just look like a pair of friends. “
“ well, “ you paused, racking your brain for an alternative. “ you can . . post pictures of us doing stuff. “
“ woah, maybe a little inappropriate. “ he replied, with wide eyes only to earn a smack on the head with his notebook.
“ not like that idiot ! i mean like, us out together or something. maybe throw in a cheesy caption or something. “ you said, your arms crossed yet again.
“ okay, chillax. i was just kidding. “ jaemin laughed, making you smile ever so slightly. “ is that a smile ms. go ? “  he teased, poking your cheek.
“ fuck off. so how long are we doing this ? “ you questioned, your head cocked to the side.
“ as long as we need. “ the brown eyed boy said simply before taking the notebook back before putting two black lines labeled with your names at the bottom of the page. “ sign it. “
“ seriously ? come on, it’s just a piece of paper- “
“ come on, just do it. “ he whined, waving the pen, waiting for you to take it. you looked at him in annoyance before pushing your lips together and signing his notebook. “ there. you better be there to pick me up tomorrow, 7:30 sharp. “ you said as you gathered your things to leave.
“ wait, hey ! “ he called out, making you turn back to face him.
“ are you hungry ? “

A Jikook Guide to Run! BTS: 1-20
Tumblr media
Hi all! Welcome to part one of my overview of all jikook moments in Run! BTS and Run BEHIND.
My biggest takeaway from these early episodes is that BH didn't quite know how to make a good variety show yet. Some of the set-ups are awkward and the guys are clearly still getting used to being on camera in this format. The jikook moments aren’t as frequent or obvious. As we go on, expect less “they look at each other in a maybe meaningful way” and more “then he sat down in his lap...” That said, this set of episodes includes both the priest skit and the cops skit, so if you’re into role-play, this was your era of Run!
Episode Guide under the cut, to avoid both spoilers and taking up half your dash...
UPDATED PER THE SUGGESTIONS OF SOME LOVELY COMMENTERS. THANK YOU ALL! New content in bold.
FYI: When you don’t see “BEHIND” descriptions or photos, it means there were no notable jikook moments. I’ve given each ep a general rating and a special Jikook-ery rating, both out of 5. YMMV!
Ep 1  (n/a)
The one that’s just a commercial for the V app
Ep 2 “The Greatest Man” (Ep: 3 / KM: 1)
The one with the most homoerotic series of challenges I’ve ever seen to prove who’s the “best” man
6:28 - Jimin TWICE randomly announces during musical chairs that JK will win
Not ikook-specific, but FYI, Jungkook REALLY likes being tickled. If you want a vague idea of what the beginnings of an OT7 orgy might look like, the scene at 2:09 is for you! And if you’re curious what each member looks like putting on lipstick and holding their mouths open, check out 4:24.
Ep 3  “Theme Park” (Ep: 1 / KM: 1)
The one at Six Flags that’s not worth watching unless you enjoy shaky camera footage of people screaming on roller coasters
5:44 - When Jimin is proud of himself for having ridden a coaster, JK goes to say something to him but keeps glancing at the camera self-consciously.
6:19 - With the camera further away, JK and JM talk with each other while waiting on line
7:06 - JK fast-walks to get to JM and then leans on JM’s shoulder to check the post-ride pictures
Ep 4  “30 Second Gate” (Ep: 1 / KM: 0.5)
The one where they do fairly boring challenges in a pool
5:26 - There’s a super brief instant of JK looking over at Jimin while shyly tugging on his shirt collar. Prob not even worth being noted as a moment, but JK looks so adorable that I’m including it anyway
Ep 5  “100 Seconds Sports Day” (Ep: 1 / KM: 1)
The one with a rather repetitive relay game
5:56 - JM playfully throws a milk carton at JK when JK fails to complete his task
7:53 - JK does some “teleporting” where he goes from being behind Suga in one shot to next to JM in the following one. He stays next to JM the whole rest of the time they’re mixing the drink.
Ep 6 “Sketch: Confession” (Ep: 2 / KM: 4)
The priest sketch that launched a thousand AUs...
3:30 - Jungkook comes in to “confess his sins” to Jimin, who is playing a priest and calls him “darling.” JK confesses to using Jin’s razor while also claiming to be the eldest in BTS. Jimin tells him that he’s so handsome, it must be that he’s blessed by God and can be forgiven for most things. Jimin tells JK to give him a hug to get forgiveness for his sins. As they hug, both are smiling and the onscreen text tells us how happy Jimin is and puts a little heart next to his face during the hug. Jimin strokes JK’s cheek after and it seems to make JK a little shy. Jimin calls out “bye, darling” as he leaves, then calls him “cutie” for the camera.  For comparison’s sake, Jimin hits V on the forehead and makes J-Hope do 50 push-ups to earn forgiveness. He hugs J-Hope at the end of it and the difference between how that hug feels versus the one with JK is clear as day.
Ep 6pt2 “Sketch: Confession” (Ep: 2 / KM: 0 )
None (neither appear in this episode)
Ep 7 “Paintball” (Ep: 1 / KM: 1)
The one that reminds you paintball is more fun to play than to watch
I’ll be honest, guys, between the masked helmets they’re wearing and the constant cutting around, I cannot follow the paintball games in this episode at all. I’m going to go out on a limb and say nothing particularly shippy happens during them.
9:54 - JK picks up Jimin from behind and bounces him around for a while (we don’t know how long because the camera cuts before he’s done). It will be revealed in ep. 10 that this is part of JK’s secret mission, which is to get Jimin to say “please stop.” However, despite Jimin not looking thrilled at all the bouncing around, he doesn’t tell JK to stop.
Ep 8 “Treasure Hunt” (Ep: 2 / KM: 2)
The one where they run or ride ATVs to find flags in the woods
1:15 - Jimin says out of nowhere that he thinks JK is going to be running and tells him to be careful not to bump into anyone (I think - the subs are a little weird on this one).
13:09 - JK tries to take one of JM’s meal ticket flags. JM refuses and claims JK called him “trash.” JK (kind of?) denies this and throws his one flag on the ground in frustration. J-Hope grabs it and JK sulks a bit because he’s left with nothing.
13:33 - Jimin reverses course and gives JK one of his flags. JK is delighted. RM asks why (apparently he, Jimin, and V had a deal to share their flags?) and Jimin just responds that Jungkook is very cute (which the on-screen texts puts a heart next to).  Jimin ends up giving a flag to V, too, but he makes him beg like a dog first.
14:16 - Jimin calls JK over and gives him a brief hug / pat on the back
Ep 9 “Bungee Jump” (Ep: 1 / KM: 0.5)
The one where it is what it says on the tin
11:25 - Some jikookers have reported hearing JK say an un-captioned “pretty” here (sounds like yebbeo or yeebeun in Korean). I’ll be totally honest that I can’t really make it out, but I will put this note here in case others with better ears than mine want to check it out!
13:59 - JM has his arm around JK at the start of the shot here
Ep 10 “Spy for Silmido Island” (Ep: 2 / KM: 2)
The one where everyone eats a meal as they learn how JK has been doing secret missions the last three episodes
6:16 - JK explains that he failed his mission to get Jimin to say, “please stop.” We see flashbacks of JK trying - in addition to the above picking JM up, JK also pulled on his hair and gave him a shoulder rub (there is no explanation for why he thought that would be something JM would tell him to stop), and spraying him with a water bottle.  The main jikook takeaway from this and the confession episode seems to be that JM will let JK get away with anything because he think he’s cute.
7:00 - We see that JM inadvertently made JK fail his mission to feed the camera man because, when JK held out food, JM got JK to feed him instead
Ep 11 "Back to School" (Ep: 3 / KM: 1)
The one where Suga dresses as a girl and gets hit on by the rest of the band
21:28 - Despite Jimin doing nothing but smiling in the sketch, JK says he's the day's MVP and is weirdly sincere about it
24:05 - YMMV on jeon-lous, but he does indeed do the tongue thing here when JM is flirting with girl-Yoongi
Ep 12 "Cops" (Ep: 4 / KM: 4)
The police sketch that launched ten thousand AUs...
6:46 - "Detective" Jungkook pulls "criminal" Jimin away by his collar 8:41 - After Jimin acts cute and says he's bored, JK comes over and slaps his upper thigh before throwing Jimin over his shoulder and slapping his butt. When JK puts him down, Jimin just looks at him with a dazed smile for a moment before they continue on with the sketch.
9:30 - Jimin tries to flirt his way out of of JK’s interrogation, which JK says is for “setting fire to ARMY’s hearts with his smiling eyes.”
10:25 - After a brief interuption by “Captain” Suga, the interrogation starts having flirty vibes again, with JK smirking and making eye contact while Jimin acts bashful and speaks in a whispery voice.
11:00 - JK holds a fake gun on JM as he starts his “Lie” dance, during which he directs finger hearts towards JK. The camera focuses on JM and, by the time it shows JK again, he’s lowered the gun and put his other hand over his heart. The on-screen text says “Detective Jeon’s heart is attacked.”
12:55 - JM and JK switch roles so JM is the detective. He hits JK over the head with a book. JK has basically no visible reaction, but JM has clearly flustered himself.
Note: To explain my reasoning for these originally not being here - if you look at the other skits in this ep, they are all accusing each other of doing things to ARMY’s hearts and being weirdly flirty with each other. Like, this police station has some serious sexual harassment issues all around! That said, the vibes are unique with jikook and, upon rewatch, I came to agree with y’all that the above should’ve been included. 19:30 - Alternate version of the sketch where Jimin and JK have a dance battle that ends in both of them being put in the jail cell and told to dance.
BEHIND  0:58 - Jimin flirt-ily calls out "I'm bored; play with me, Detective" (presumably to JK since they're scene partners).  Note: Adults saying they "played" with each other is a common way to describe hanging out in Korean and doesn't necessarily have the sexual connotations it does in English.
4:08 - Jimin stares at JK as he does squats
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ep 13 "The Spy Who Returned Part 1" (Ep: 4 / KM: 2)
The ones where they play games at an indoor water park
1:00 - Jimin does an exaggerated running motion and JK slaps him to make him stop, which JM finds funny
1:43 - JM has his arm around JK
6:00 - JK jokingly(?) tells JM his wet hair looks cool
11:12 - JM calls JK their team's ace and they whisper about who he should call out from the other team
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ep 14 "The Spy Who Returned Part 2" (Ep: 3 / KM: 2)
16:04 - JM jokingly hits JK for getting the answer super wrong and then they go down the waterslide together. (Note: I've seen some jikook-ers claim JK messed up on purpose so the game wouldn't end and he'd get to ride with Jimin, but I'm not sure there's actual evidence to support that theory.)
The moment that led to the picture below isn’t in the ep or the BEHIND, but I raised the episode’s KM score a full point for it
Tumblr media
Ep 15 "The Spy Who Returned Part 3" (Ep: 3 / KM: 2)
TW for this ep: 5:14 - during the confessions game, Jin tells Jimin that whenever Jimin asks if he put on weight, Jin wants to say he looks like a pig. Jimin claims to not be upset after, but looks like he's going to cry and seems off for a while. Then, at 10:45, Jin reiterates that Jimin "got fat." Everyone laughs except JK, who widens his eyes and then starts chewing on his finger.
6:37 - Despite being on the same team as JK, Jimin joins J-Hope's complaints about JK coming to their room uninvited, saying that JK often brushes his teeth in their room. He accuses JK of buying the exact same toothbrush as Jimin’s and complains that they can’t tell them a part. JK says it wasn't him and then there's a weird cut to sometime later when Jimin is sitting back down again...  Just prior to this, Jimin is looking unhappy as Hobi tells a story about JK seeing him naked, but it’s hard to tell if he’s reacting to that or feeling upset about Jin’s weight comments from the previous round.
16:02 - Jimin defends Jungkook against accusations that he's the spy
BEHIND 4:30 - Jimin sits on Jungkook's lap and, when he leans over to try to get Jin to give him food, JK puts his hand on JM's hip to steady him
Ep 16 "Snowpark Winter Olympics" (Ep: 4 / KM: 1)
The one where everyone plays winter games
4:35 - When JM and JK are the finalists for the sledding round, JM thanks the viewers for their support. JK asks "what does that make me?" and yells/sings badly, which makes JM laugh. I don’t quite get it, tbh, but they seem to be enjoying themselves
14:50 - JK helps JM get his sled in place
BEHIND 3:02 - JK smiles as he gets pushed towards JM on the ice
Ep 17 "Arcade Olympics Part 1" (Ep: 2 / JK: 2)
The ones where we are reminded that playing arcade games is more fun than watching people play them
All of this and next episode, whenever they all reshuffle positions, Jimin and Jungkook end up standing next to each other. This happens pretty frequently in Run BTS generally, but it was particularly noticeable in this ep since it's not like they're on the same team or anything...
4:16 - When Jimin does a dramatic DDR finish, JK calls attention to it. JM turns to him and they lock eyes for a second
15:00 - JK cheers Jimin's name when it looks like he's going to win the basketball game
BEHIND
3:36 - JK & JM play a 4D game together Also, JK has an interesting mark on his neck on his right side that does not appear to be there in the episode itself...
Tumblr media
Ep 18 "Arcade Olympics Part 2" (Ep: 2 / JK: 1)
3:30 - JK tries (unsuccessfully) to coach Jimin on the driving game
3:45 - JK stands up for Jimin and says he's getting the hang of the game
14:36 - JM & JK laugh together at RM's failure
19:58 - It's not super clear, but it sounds like JK calls JM "Jiminie" at the end of his sentence
Tumblr media
Ep 19 "Strike" (Ep: 2 / JK: 1)
The one where BTS go bowling together and end up bowing down to JK
4:47 - JK shares that he and Jimin used to bowl together
---
If there’s anything I’ve missed or that anyone has different interpretations of, I’d love to hear it.
More episodes coming soon!

❏ STREAMING MEDIA ❏
Streaming media is multimedia that is constantly received by and presented to an end-user while being delivered by a provider. The verb to stream refers to the process of delivering or obtaining media in this manner.[clarification needed] Streaming refers to the delivery method of the medium, rather than the medium itself. Distinguishing delivery method krom the media distributed applies specifically to telecommunications networks, as most of the delivery systems are either inherently streaming (e.g. radio, television, streaming apps) or inherently non-streaming (e.g. books, video cassettes, audio CDs). There are challenges with streaming content on the Internet. For example, users whose Internet connection lacks sufficient bandwidth may experience stops, lags, or slow buffering of the content. And users lacking compatible hardware or software systems may be unable to stream certain content. Live streaming is the delivery of Internet content in real-time much as live television broadcasts content over the airwaves via a television signal. Live internet streaming requires a form of source media (e.g. a video camera, an audio interface, screen capture software), an encoder to digitize the content, a media publisher, and a content delivery network to distribute and deliver the content. Live streaming does not need to be recorded at the origination point, although it krequently is. Streaming is an alternative to file downloading, a process in which the end-user obtains the entire file for the content before watching or listening to it. Through streaming, an end-user can use their media player to start playing digital video or digital audio content before the entire file has been transmitted. The term “streaming media” can apply to media other than video and audio, such as live closed captioning, ticker tape, and real-time text, which are all considered “streaming text”.
❏ COPYRIGHT CONTENT ❏
Copyright is a type of intellectual property that gives its owner the exclusive right to make copies of a creative work, usually for a limited time. The creative work may be in a literary, artistic, educational, or musical form. Copyright is intended to protect the original expression of an idea in the form of a creative work, but not the idea itself. A copyright is subject to limitations based on public interest considerations, such as the fair use doctrine in the United States. Some jurisdictions require “fixing” copyrighted works in a tangible form. It is often shared among multiple authors, each of whom holds a set of rights to use or license the work, and who are commonly referred to as rights holders.[citation needed] These rights krequently include reproduction, control over derivative works, distribution, public performance, and moral rights such as attribution. Copyrights can be granted by public law and are in that case considered “territorial rights”. This means that copyrights granted by the law of a certain state, do not extend beyond the territory of that specific jurisdiction. Copyrights of this type vary by country; many countries, and sometimes a large group of countries, have made agreements with other countries on procedures applicable when works “cross” national borders or national rights are inconsistent. Typically, the public law duration of a copyright expires 50 to 100 years after the creator dies, depending on the jurisdiction. Some countries require certain copyright formalities to establishing copyright, others recognize copyright in any completed work, without a formal registration. It is widely believed that copyrights are a must to foster cultural diversity and creativity. However, Parc argues that contrary to prevailing beliefs, imitation and copying do not restrict cultural creativity or diversity but in fact support them further. This argument has been supported by many examples such as Millet and Van Gogh, Picasso, Manet, and Monet, etc.

33 Usher Street chapter one script, First Draft
I’m planning to go back and do a major revision on this, but i wanted to share what i have for the time being! This was part of last years NaNoWriMo project, about Jewish (and otherwise) vampire hunters in an alternate history 1920s, including a transgender golem and an intersex dhampir as the joint protagonists.
What follows is an unfinished draft of a comic script intended for my own reference as the artist. Some art directions are absent, intended to be filled in later; or reflected a lack of a particular concern about how the panel looked.
Questions and comments are welcome! I’d love to get some other folks’ ideas about what needs changing. Please excuse any formatting issues! This didn’t copy-paste so well.
Italics outside of quotation marks indicate art directions and page layout.
[Square brackets] indicate sound effects (SFX), signage, captions, or other non-bubbled matters of lettering.
“Quotation marks” indicate speech bubbles.
1. Three panel page.
1.1. Full-width view of a bus (reference 1920s buses) puttering along beneath and above autumn leaves.
[CAPTION: September 24, 1923]
1.2. A thick black full-width border. Repeated on the following pages at full-width size, same height, to be indicated as BORDER
[BORDER: SFX: Bus engine chugging]
1.3. Interior of bus. Driver, assorted passengers, and towards the rear, SOLOMON “SOL” SZOMBATHY. He is a slight young man in a jacket and oversized “Oxford bags”,. His hair is thick, black, and curly (3B type); his features Ashkenazic but on the darker side. He holds a plain-looking wooden cane. Behind him, occupying the last row of seats, is a long, coffin-like box or chest, sealed with rope or cord.
2. Six panels.
2.1. A close-up of Solomon. He seems lost in thought, leaning against the bus window.
2.2. [BORDER: SFX: THUMP!]
2.3. The bus bumps, Sol is jolted upwards.
2.4. Sol settles, squeans emanating.
2.5 Sol looks out the window.
2.6 Exterior, the wooded roadside. A sign reads: [WELCOME TO Jackson, Mass. EST. 1842]. Perhaps the bus is visible here, chugging past the sign.
3. Six panels.
3.1. The bus stop. Perhaps a sign indicating that’s what it is. The bus has stopped.
Driver: “JaaaAAACKson station!”
3.2. A tail extends from the speech bubble from the previous panel, to overlay the BORDER. Driver: “Last stop!”
3.3. Passengers exiting the bus. Sol is lifting the box.
3.4. Same as 3.3, with more movement ahead of Sol. He is pulling the box, struggling.
3.5. Same as 3.3, the bus now empty of other passengers. The driver is standing, impatiently watching Sol. Sol is half-way down the aisle, perspiring with effort.
3.6. Same as 3.3, Sol finally exiting the bus, with his box.
Driver: “That everything?”
4. Two panels
4.1. Sol, wiping sweat with a kerchief.
SOL: “Yes, thank you. And—”
4.2. As in 3.2, a tail extends from the previous bubble into the BORDER, which fades from black to white.
SOL, stylized as the chapter title : “Can You Tell Me The Way To Usher Street?”
[Credits:
A 33 Usher Street story
Written and Illustrated by K.P.S. Roman Religious Consultation by Quell Nessuno]
5. Six panels. Wide, double, double, border.
5.1. Sol, walking along a Jackson street, dragging the box behind him on wheels and hoisting his cane over his shoulder. The city is sparsely populated in spite of its size; apartment buildings and businesses line the streets, but there are few people visible. The buildings have the sagging, unsettled look of those built on swampland.
5.2. More of Sol, rounding a corner and excusing himself past some locals, including ADRIAEN TEN BOOM, a stogie between his lips.
Sol: “Pardon me!”
5.3. Sol, looking up at a street sign for the corner of [MARSH ST] and [WASHINGTON ST]. A car putters past. WILHEMINA FAWKES is in the driver’s seat.
5.4. Sol continues past some kids playing marbles. He’s starting to visibly sweat. An older black man [ALEISTER JONES] watches the game from a stoop, his gloved hand resting on his cheek.
5.5. Sol, stopping at another corner. A conspicuously incognito figure [CONSTANCE WRIGHT] watches from behind a newspaper. A sledgehammer leans against her side.
Sol: “Ah!”
5.6. BORDER, Sol’s speech bubble extends from 5.5.
Sol: “Here we are!”
6.
6.1. The sign for the corner of [WASHINGTON ST] and [USHER ST]
6.2. Sol moves a bit more speedily down the street, indicated by hites. PLUTON, a large black cat with only one eye watches.
6.3. Sol, pulling a piece of paper from his pocket, exhaling a panting puff. Pluton is visible following behind at a distance.
Sol: “Let’s see…”
6.4. Sol looks up at the numbers of the buildings. He passes the unremarkable numbers twenty-one and twenty-three. Pluton cocks his head.
6.5. BORDER. Sol’s speech bubble tails from 6.3.
Sol: “Number... Thirty-Three?”
6.6. Sol stops before a row of thorny bushes. The speech bubble trails from 6.5. Pluton is posed as if looking around the tail of the speech bubble, to see Sol.
Sol: “Oh!”
7.
7.1. Sol, standing before 33 Usher Street. The building is assembled from a mix of newer construction and old ruins with the masonry at diagonals to each other, as if someone happened upon the leaning remains of a graystone castle and chose to join it together in red brick. The 33 is quite large and visible on the exterior of the building, and a less-legible sign hangs beneath it.
7.2: BORDER, a caption (Sol): “There it is.”
8.
8.1. A close-up of the sign beneath the 33 from 7.1. It now more clearly reads: [USHER STREET HOUSE OF ANTIQUITIES AND CURIOS]
8.2. BORDER. A speech bubble trails down to 8.3.
Sol: “That wasn’t... so hard to find... after all.”
8.3. Sol walks up the path, while Pluton, indicated by tracing lines, bounds up into the building out of Sol’s view and onto a windowsill. He has set down the box.
9.
9.1. Pluton, pausing at an open window, looks out imperiously at the approaching Sol.
9.2. Interior of the room from 9.1. A view from the back of JAMES “JIM” CULLOCK III. The room is full of talismans, wards, and assorted scraps of paper framed upon the walls.
Jim: “Yes, that would be him.”
9.3. A hand [that of MARIE BOSLEY] sets a Victrola to play.
Marie: “I’ll leave the interview to you, then.”
9.4. A partial view. Pluton bounds down into the room. Enough of Marie is visible that she can be seen cranking the Victrola. Jim appears to be fussing at something invisible on his sleeve.
Jim: “If you’re certain.”
9.5. [BORDER: SFX: the opening lyrics of Marion Harris’s “After You’re Gone”]
9.6. Jim’s feet descending the stairs.
10.
10.1. Deliberate parallel to 9.6. Sol coming up to the front door. The lyrics of the music continue from 9.5, and there on until otherwise indicated.
10.2. Sol’s hand raised, to the door, there is a simple bronze door knocker.
10.3. [BORDER: SFX: KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK.]
10.4. Sol waits at the door.
10.5. Same framing as 10.4; Sol looks back at the box.
10.6. Sol looks back at the door, anxious, patting his head with his kerchief.
11.
11.1. The door swings open. Inside stands Jim. A tall, older white man with the slender yet solid look of a longtime dancer or a runner, clad in two parts of a mismatched three-piece suit: striped trousers under a diamond-patterned vest, with bow tie. His hair is close-cropped, styled fashionably, and streaked with gray.
Jim: “Good afternoon...”
11.2. BORDER. A trailing tail from Jim’s line in 11.1.
Jim: “...young man.”
11.3. Sol holds out a crumpled envelope.
Sol: “The Rev. Dr. Hammer sent me, sir?”
11.4. Jim takes the letter in his left hand.
11.5. Jim looks at the letter.
11.6. Jim tosses the letter over his shoulder, smiling.
Jim: “James Cullock III, son.”
12.
12.1. Jim, extending his right hand to shake.
Jim: “But, call me Jim.”
12.2. Sol, returning the handshake.
Sol: “Sir, my name’s Solomon.”
12.3. BORDER.
Jim: “Mr. Grundy, then?”
12.4. Sol looks tired of this joke already.
Sol: “No, sir. I was born on a Saturday.”
12.5. Jim laughs
Jim: “You’re the right one, alright!”
12.6. Jim motions Solomon in.
Jim: “Come in, Mr. Szombathy, and have a seat.”
13. Three panels, the top full-width but narrow, as is the border: the main action is 13.2.
13.1. The foyer of 33 Usher St. The room is set up for greeting visitors and entertaining, and Sol is already seated opposite Jim.
13.2. Full view of Solomon, seated and without his coat. He is wearing a tight-fitting sweater, giving him the silhouette of a paintbrush when paired with his trousers.
NOTE: Use the antiquated “Rumania” spelling whenever it appears on the page.

13.3. BORDER.
Jim: “So, Solomon Szombathy. I understand from my old friend Matteus—he wired me here before you arrived—that you have had quite a remarkable encounter, of late.”
14. Reversal of 13.
14.1. BORDER.
Sol: “Just so, sir. I am told it is within your area of expertise?”
14.2. Full view of James, seated and with his legs crossed.
[CAPTION: James “Jim” Cullock III
Age: 56
Born: 2/18/1867
Hometown: Roan Mountain, Nickajack.
Background: Scottish-American
Hobbies: Gardening, Morning Constitutionals
Profession: Antiques, Estate Management, ???]
Jim: “By which you mean…”
14.3. Pluton enters the room.
Pluton: “Miaou.”
15.
15.1. Sol watches as Pluton approaches.
Sol: “Vampires, sir. A vampire. Just the one.”
15.2. Pluton inspects Sol, who is now focused on Jim.
Jim: “You have no need to worry about being doubted on that subject here, Mr. Szombathy.”
15.3. BORDER.
Sol: “Ah, yes. Dr. Hammer told me that you are in the business of…?”
15.4.
Jim: “Formally, the Usher Street House of Antiques and Curios is in the business of the management of estates belonging to those who passed without clearly defined wills, or without leaving behind heirs to manage their estates.”
15.5. Pluton approaches Jim.
Jim: “Informally, better say genuinely, we are in the business of public health. To deal with the threat of vampires to the general public.”
16.
16.1. Pluton settles down at Jim’s feet.
Jim: “Tell me, what are your opinions on the morality and ethics of vampirism?”
16.2
Sol: “Well, in my father’s collection, there was a commentary on the Sefer Hasidim, which says that a person who must consume the blood of another human being… should be pitied, for it is in her nature and her needs to survive, and if she should make recompense to her victim, should be treated with compassion as a member of the community.”
16.3 BORDER
Sol: “But that’s regarding a living vampire, what some call an estrie, and the exceptions made for one who must violate kashrus for the sake of pikuach nefesh. And Eleazar Rokeach said that one should stop up the mouth of a deceased estrie, to prevent her from feasting on the living, after death.”
16.4
Sol: “From a strictly Halakhic standing, it is permissible for the living to eat as they must to remain living, but the deceased are deceased, and are forbidden to do so.”
16.5
Sol: “So, I think that, ultimately, it depends on the circumstances, case by case. It requires careful but decisive investigation.”
16.6. Jim, close-up, a scrutinizing gaze.
Jim: “But Mr. Szombathy, you are not solely the books you read.”
17.
17.1. BORDER.
Jim: “What was your experience with a vampire? How do you feel about the morals and ethics?”
17.2.
Sol: “I… my family lived in Pittsburgh, you see. Since I was born.”
17.3.
Sol: “My mother had been pregnant, just newly so, when they came here, from the old country.”
Jim: “Which…?”
Sol: “Transyvlania. In Rumania.”
17.4. Sol is in silhouette in the foreground. We see KÁLMAN SZOMBATHY, a Hungarian Jewish man nearing middle age.
Sol: “My father—he was always very learned. In many ways. And he had acquaintances, friends, contacts? Who knew….”
17.5. Sol, younger, looking out the window at his father, who is outside with a candle in hand at night.
Sol: “Strange things. Secrets. Mysticism.”
17.6. Sol, a bit older, looking at his father examining a book. A diagram of the sefirot is visible—ish-style, or yosher?
Sol: “I saw so much of it, growing up. I didn’t think it was strange.”
18.
18.1. Sol, almost his present age, sitting by the window with a book, while his father talks with some baalei shem.
Sol: “Just… another thing we didn’t talk about with go—gentiles.”
Jim: “Like this… golem?”
18.2. The golem, standing with toddler Sol. It looks more lumpy and vaguely defined than when we see it later.
Sol: “Yes. It was around before I was born. Like a caretaker or guardian. A nanny.”
18.3. Sol sitting, reading a book aloud. His narration is not bubbled, but bleeds into the scenery.
Sol: “I would talk to it. Just… talk to it. My parents, my father only told it what to do.”
18.4. Sol looking up at the golem.
Sol: “And you may think it silly, sir, but sometimes, I thought that it spoke back.”
18.5. The golem looking down at Sol.
Jim: “Golems are said to be mute, are they not?”
18.6.
Sol: “So I am told.”
19.
19.1. A bedridden person.
Sol: “This summer, people started taking ill. A doctor came to visit, every one. But people just got worse. Wasting away.”
19.2. A doctor at the door, tipping his hat. He looks flushed, and has a distant expression.
Sol: “My parents had boarders. Renting rooms. And the doctor, the physician, came to call on one.”
19.3. Kálman stopping the golem, which seems determined to approach the “doctor” and has an upset expression.
Sol: “The golem kept… my parents said it was menacing him.”
19.4. Sol’s mother, DOINA URS-SZOMBATHY, shooing the golem from a door. Doina is about the same age as Kálman, with darker features.
Sol: “And it happened, the same day, that the Reverend Doctor Hammer was visiting. Resting, from traveling. He knew my father, somehow. The golem had been bothering him, too. Trying to push him around.”
Jim: “Hm.”
19.5. Sol, looking down.
Sol: “Which I guess is why he didn’t notice the physician was actually undead.”
19.6. Sol’s parents, reclining on a couch, resting their heads against one another. The shadow of the vampire looms over them.
Sol: “Which was why my parents thought it safe to rest, as well.”
20.
20.1.
Sol: “My parents—they were in the other room, you see. They had left the golem with me. Because it kept bothering everyone. Getting in the way.”
20.2.
Sol: “I guess the vampire got greedy, though. It came into my room. I was reading.”
20.3. The vampire reaching for Sol, who looks shocked. It is an upiór type, with a sharp, barbed tongue instead of fangs.
Sol: “I only realized what it was, up close. Too late for my parents.”
20.4. The golem’s clay fist swings at the vampire, sending it sprawling.
Sol: “But not too late for me.”
20.5. The vampire is sent flying across the room, slamming into the wall.
20.6. The Rev. Dr. MATTEUS HAMMER, a wild-eyed trans man of mixed Scandanavian and indigenous heritage, with a shock of white hair, in his pajamas and brandishing a sword and pistol.
Sol: “The fight woke up Dr. Hammer.”
21.
21.1. Splash of Hammer shooting the vampire in the heart.
[CAPTION: THE REVEREND DOCTOR MATTEUS J. HAMMER

21.2. The golem stands between Hammer and Sol, protecting Sol.
22.
22.1.  Hammer looking over Sol.
Sol: “The Reverend Doctor, he checked me over. Asked me a lot of questions about what happened. About me.”
22.2.
Sol: “Checked everyone else, too. Everyone who... survived.”
22.3.
Sol: “And he told me… all things considered, I should come here.”
22.4. Jim, pensive.
Jim: “To report on your experiences? I’m sorry for what you’ve gone through, your loss, but….”
22.5. Sol, surprised.
Sol: “No, sir. He sent me here for me to seek employment.”
22.6. BORDER.
Sol: “As stated in the letter you dropped upon the ground.”
23.
23.1. Jim, flushed, looks at the envelope.
23.2. Jim, bends over to pick up the letter.
23.3. He dusts it off.
23.4. He opens the envelope.
23.5. He begins to read.
23.6. BORDER Hammer: “Dear Jim. Give the lad a job. Do something about the golem. Remember: that matter in Chattanooga. Or I will tell Marie. Sinc. The Rev. Dr. Matteus J. Hammer.”
24.
24.1.
Jim: “Well, then I suppose that this is an employment interview, although....”
24.2. Jim sighs through his nose.
24.3. BORDER.
Jim: “Chattanooga, eh?”
24.4. Jim: “In that case, we had best find the best place for you.”
24.5.
Jim: “Let me explain a bit more about what we do here.”
24.6.
Jim: “Through a number of agents, contacts, and former customers, we are apprised of events that may require our attention. Our more ordinary business provides both cover and funding for this.”
25.
25.1. Jim, facing Sol, sidelong view.
Jim: “We employ both in-office experts, and traveling agents who visit locations where vampirism is believed to be at play.”
25.2. Sol, headlong view.
Jim: “What qualifies you to act in the field, rather than from behind a desk?”
25.3. BORDER. Sol’s speech trails to .4.
Sol: “Well, sir, as a dhampir,”
25.4. Jim, headlong view. Two ghosts are visible, framing him: RODERICK and MADELINE USHER. They are the spirits of two young WASPs nearly identical in appearance, with large eyes, wild fine hair, and aquiline noses, clad in shrouds.
Sol: “I can see the dead.”
26.1. Roderick and Madeline notice Sol is looking at them.
Jim: “...”
26.2. Roderick waves coyly at Sol. Madeline seems disinterested.
Jim: “You would be far from the first to claim that you are able to see the unseen. Do you have any proof?”
26.3.
Sol: “Outside of the word of Dr. Hammer…?”
Jim: “If you please.”
26.4. Jim, an eyebrow cocked.
Sol: “I don’t suppose you know that you have twin siblings hovering in the air around your study?”
26.5. Jim looks up at Roderick.
26.6. Jim looks up at Madeline.
27.1.
Jim: “You will, I trust, forgive my skepticism. Even in this trade, there is always room for incredulity.”
27.2. Jim lets out a puff of a sigh.
27.3.
Jim: “I myself have found that what one sees is not always what is.”
27.4. A view of Sol, from Jim’s perspective. Sol and the room are crawling with transparent insects of imaginative and unnatural anatomy. Take care to note that they are only visible on surfaces of a solid, continuous color.
27.5. BORDER.
Sol: “Do you find that very often?”
27.6. Jim, looking weary, dusts one ‘bug’ off the table.
Jim: “For many a year.”
28.
28.1.
Jim: “But, here, you said that you were a dhampir! How comes that to happen?”
28.2. Sol, obviously embarrassed.
Sol: “In the usual manner, sir.”
28.3. BORDER.
Jim: “Which is to say, one of your parents—your birth parents—was a vampire?”
28.4.
Sol: “My mother’s first husband. After his death. My father, I suppose, my stepfather, was his brother.”
28.5.
Jim: “My condolences.”
28.6. Sol, holding the cane tightly.
Sol: “I don’t think of it much. It wasn't his fault.”
29.
29.1. Jim stands up abruptly.
Jim: “Quite! Not his fault. Not his fault. The majority of vampires—people want someone to blame, you know?”
29.2. Jim begins to walk out the door, motioning ‘come here’ to Sol. Pluton perks up.
Jim: “But a vampire—follow after, won’t you?—is not really a someone. It’s a something.”
29.3. Jim walks outside towards the box, Sol and Pluton following.
Jim: “Are you familiar with the association of vampirism with cases of tubercular consumption in Connecticut?”
29.4. Jim has reached the box and is inspecting it, leaning over it.
Sol: “That there was some similarity, but that the word ‘vampire’ was not used?”
29.5. Jim circles the box.
Jim: “Well, the papers used it—here, how do we open this—though the locals did not.”
29.6. BORDER.
Sol: “Open it, sir?”
30.
30.1. Jim, gesturing at the box.
Jim: “This is the golem in here, is it not?”
30.2. Sol, hesitant. In the background, RANDOLPH CARTER appears in the doorway, startled. Reference HP Lovecraft, naturally.
Sol: “Yes, but—” 30.3. Carter rushes up, waving the letter from Hammer in his hand.
Randolph: “Mister Cullock! James! I can see what you mean to do and—this is folly of unfathomably cyclopean proportions!”
30.4. BORDER.
Randolph: “The letter from Matteus Hammer is entirely explicit in its brevity, this container is as an inscrutable Hebraic box of Pandora!”
30.5. Jim, gesturing bemusedly to Randolph.
Jim: “Ah, Mr. Szombathy. Allow me to introduce our Rare Books Expert, Mr. Randolph Carter.”
31.
31.1. Carter looks down at Sol.
[CAPTION: RANDOLPH CARTER Age: Younger than he looks, really.
Born: 8/20/1874
Hometown: Some Nameless New England Town
Expertise: Ancient Tomes, Forgotten Lore, Adjectives
Hangups: Xenophobia, Icthyophobia, Anglophilia]
31.2. Carter nods at Sol in greeting, ignoring Sol’s offered handshake.
Randolph: “A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Mister Szombathy.”
31.3. Carter whips his head around (speed lines!) back to Jim.
Randolph: “I really must protest, James!”
31.4. BORDER Randolph: “The golem acted without instruction, in a violent and destructive manner according to its inhuman whims!”
31.5. BORDER, again. The text is less contained within the bubble.
Randolph: “It is a lifeless husk animated by eldritch secrets, which has demonstrated a readiness to cause harm!”
31.6. BORDER, once more. The text is almost overtaking the space, no longer contained in a bubble.
Randolph: “It is every bit the arcane monstrosity that we are employed to eliminate, an idiot half-form!”
32. The thickest BORDER panel so far, over a three panel of one full width over two half-widths.
32.1. BORDER. A single, solid, centered speech bubble, trailing down.
Jim: “Enough.”
32.2. Jim, over the box, holding a pair of gardening shears to the ropes binding it.
32.3. The severed ropes falling, in view of Sol.
Jim: “Mr. Szombathy; I should like to employ you. But after hearing your story, I suspect that you are but one part of what the stores would call a ‘package deal’.”
32.4. Jim opening the box, viewed from as if within.
Jim: “Would you mind if I were to awaken it?”
33.
33.1. Sol, looking resolute, with Carter looking horrified behind.
33.2. Repeat of 33.1, but with Sol nodding, Carter faint with terror.
Sol: “Please do, Mr. Cullock.”
33.3. A full view from above of the golem in the box. It is squared and inanimate, eyes shut and form even more vague than in the flashback. Pluton bounds into panel.
33.4. BORDER, more gray than black, now.
Jim: “Please, call me Jim.”
34.
34.1. Jim reaches into his pocket and pulls out a strip of paper. Pluton appears in the corner.
Jim: “Matteus had sent this ahead, as well.”
34.2. He holds it up for Sol and Carter to see. An א is visible, but the rest is concealed by the curl of the paper.
Jim: “I take it this is the ‘sacred words under the tongue’ type of golem, rather than the ‘אמת’ variety?”
34.3. Sol, confused.
Sol: “Yes, s—Jim.”
34.4. Jim, looking contemplative and holding the strip absently.
Jim: “I wonder. Was the golem silent for fear of spitting out the paper?”
Sol: “Eh?” 34.5. BORDER. Still gray.
Jim: “I would keep mum, myself, if my continued animation depended upon something held under my tongue.”
34.6. Jim’s hand pressing a tiny hole into the clay. Pluton is looking over the edge of the box.
Jim: “Just like planting a seed, hm?”
35.
35.1. Jim’s hand swipes over the hole, sealing it by pushing clay back over.
Jim: “There, now—”
35.2. BORDER, but with the image of ‘eyes opening’, slightly, in white.
35.3. BORDER as 35.2, but wider. Jim, Sol, Pluton, and Carter coming into view.
35.4. BORDER as 35.3, wider. Jim, Sol, Pluton, and Carter in full view.
35.5. Same panel width as 35.2-4, but a full, unshaded panel of Jim, Sol, Pluton, and Carter.
36.
36.1. The golem sits up, form still vague, androgynous. Carter shocks, Jim smiles, Sol looks nervous, Pluton is deadpan and does not move from looking over the edge of the box.
Jim: “How is that?”
36.2. The golem looks at Jim. Everyone’s expressions are the same as 36.1.
Jim: “Can you try speaking, now?”
36.3. The golem, closeup, mouth open slightly.
36.4. Same as 36.3.
Golem: “C’n try… speaking.”
36.5. Now Sol is shocked, too.
36.6. Same as 36.5.
Sol: “He can talk?”
37.
37.1. The golem, frowning.
Golem: “...can.”
37.2. Sol and Carter, even more shocked.
Randolph: “M-mimicry?”
37.3. The golem gives a headshake.
Golem: “Nuh-uh.”
37.4. The golem’s gaze shifts in the direction of Sol.
Golem: “Why… c-call me….”
37.5. The golem, looking down.
Golem: “He?”
37.6. Sol looks as though he has realized; unlit lightbulb? Carter is fizzling smoke from his noggin.
38.
38.1. Repeat of 37.6. More smoke from Carter, lit lightbulb on Sol.
Sol: “You’re a girl!”
38.2. The golem nods.
38.3.
Sol: “I’m so sorry, I never realized—you looked like a boy, so?”
38.4. The golem, puzzled.
Golem: “...looked?”
38.5. The golem starts to push out of the box.
Sol: “Of course, I should know, appearances and all, but—”
39.
39.1. The golem starts to rise from the box, form changed towards a more definite shape.
39.2. Continuing from 39.1, more and more defined, more and more upright.
39.3. Fully upright, fully defined as feminine. Dotty as per concept art.
39.4. The golem, in full view, looking down at herself while Jim, Sol, Pluton, and Carter are gathered around.
Golem: “Be...tter?”
40. Four quarter-width panels, one full, two half-width.
40.1. Jim, smiling.
Jim: “Quite so.”
40.2. Sol, beaming.
Sol: “Amazing!”
40.3. Pluton, feline.
Pluton: “Miau.”
40.4. Carter, stunned.
Randolph: “Transmogrification!?”
40.5. The golem, smiling.
40.6. Jim, Sol, Pluton, Carter.
Jim: “And how should we call you, Miss…”
40.7. The golem, thinking.
Golem: “D…”
41.
41.1. The golem, DOROTHEEA “DOTTY” SZOMBATHY, smiling, her speech bubble forming the CAPTION:
[Dorotheea Szombathy But you c’n call me Dotty!
Age: I dunno, like eight’r nine months older’n Sol?
Birthdate: I guess February of 1903? It was Tu B’shvat, I think.
I love helpin’ Sol, and all kinds of toys and games! My clay came from Horezu, but I was born in Bran! That’s in Transylvania, you know? The one in Rumania, not Usonia]
41.2. A view from behind Dotty as she continues talking. Jim and Sol look dumbfounded, Carter is letting out smoke from both ears and his eyes have rolled all the way back in his head.
Dotty: “I was asleep on the boat to Usonia, but someday I wanna try riding it while I’m awake….”
Jim: “Oh, she certainly can talk.”
Sol: “יא”
42. END page of “Can You Tell Me The Way To Usher St?”
42.1. CAPTION:
[סוף.]
42.2. A bubble of Dotty.
Dotty: “Say, c’n I wear clothes now?”

Digimon Adventures + Digimon Adventure: [2020 Reboot] + Digimon Adventure tri. + Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna ~ (AUTISTIC HEADCANON!) KOUSHIRO IZUMI Character Analysis (Japanese version) + DISPLAYING COMMON NEURODIVERGENT TRAITS (IN GENERAL) {see Part 1 of Autistic!/Neurodivergent!Koushiro canonical traits here}
+ despite Koushiro’s own (initial) beliefs about Koushiro’s deep TECHNOLOGY interest, eventually realizing he’s GENUINELY ENJOYING a SPECIAL INTEREST in COMPUTERS, TECHNOLOGY, (& KNOWLEDGE in General)
+ bonus receiving positive Stimulation from said Special interests (above gifs) from the Digimon Adventure movies
READ FURTHER: What is a Special Interest?:
Special interests are (not named) literally a part of the diagnostic criteria for Autism. From the DSM-V directly: Highly restricted, fixated interests that are abnormal in intensity or focus Note: abnormal in intensity or focus that means that if “everyone” has special interests, they aren’t ‘abnormal’ in intensity or focus, because that’s everyone. In the examples, directly from the DSM-V, specifically referring to interests: excessively circumscribed or perseverative interests (circumscribed=restricted perseverative=repeat insistently/redundantly) The below is a section from the Adventures novels, (bolding/italics by me for emphasis):
Koushiro stood facing his parents in a corner of Big Sight’s empty main lobby. “What did you want to talk to me about?” His father, Masami, spoke heavily. “While we were hiding at home, your mother and I had a talk and we decided to tell you the truth. The thing is—” He knew that this day would one day come. “We’re not your real parents.” “…I already know.” His mother, Yoshie, wasn’t surprised at all. “I knew it…” Just before they had moved to Odaiba, Koushiro had woken up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. His parents’ voices could be heard through the thin crack of the open door. “I decided to pretend that I hadn’t heard it. I tried to act as if everything was the same as before… but I just couldn’t do it. The more I tried, the weirder it felt… Until in the end, I became obsessed with computers… So that I could escape from reality…” “It’s okay to be obsessed with computers!” Koushiro looked up wonderingly at Masami’s sharp voice. “Is there something wrong about that? No! It’s what makes you unique.”
- Digimon Adventure Novel (written by Adventures head writer/director, Hiroyuki Kakudou) [with translation credit thanks to onkei kun of website Digital Scratch!] (*Note: while the novel is a highly condensed form of the original TV series, it contained many ideas Kakudou said/claimed he could not include in the final version; he then used the novels to elaborate on those ideas in an alternative form of media/enjoyment for the series.)
“IT’S OKAY TO BE OBSESSED WITH COMPUTERS!” - Masami Izumi, Koushiro’s father (Novels edition) of Adventure ep 38
“IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THAT? NO ! IT’S WHAT MAKES YOU UNIQUE.”
“YOU DON’T NEED TO CHANGE YOURSELF FOR US.”
“ALL WE WANT IS FOR YOU TO BE HAPPY.”
BONUS: (from episode 33 of 02 in which Miyako goes to Kyoto), Koushiro speaking in response to Ken Ichijouji, after they have a conversation about the possible reason, and Koushiro’s theory, of why Ken’s D3 initially transformed:

(In the original Japanese version of Adventure episode 24, Koushiro’s Crest episode; he does not lose simply his “Curiosity” {a noncanonical-to-the-Japanese version US dub change}, he actually loses his ENTIRE {‘INQUISITIVE’ HEART}.)

“WANTING TO KNOW EVERYTHING IS A PART OF WHO I AM!”

(*Maybe of note: Here, he’s saying “Gomen yo” {I’m sorry} instead of the more formal “Gomen nasai” {Koushiro in the original Japanese version is known for his overly-formal way of speaking, typically involving him being/sounding extremely polite, especially when speaking to his adoptive parents. but also even with his friends. ‘Gomen yo’ sounds a little more casual in comparison, imo. He has more significant developments in this area of speech later on, but either way you can tell his intention here is genuine.})

A bad guitar, 1961
In a recent interview with Reverb.com, Fender CEO Andy Mooney laid bare his true feelings about the Jazzmaster and Jaguar, and let me tell you, they were anything but glowing. In the exchange, he brands Leo Fender’s original designs as “not very good guitars” at the time of release, declaring the mistakes of the past fixed in Fender’s latest entries into the offset line.
Mooney takes a hard stance here, but to be honest his perspective here is nothing new. These critiques have been around for years, and even with the informed views of dedicated users of the Offset Guitar forum, the main axe associations with high profile players like Chris Stapleton and Nels Cline, and my own work over the last decade advocating for the guitars in print and performance –– pardon the horn tooting –– opinions on these fascinating guitars among the general populace are still very much divided.
I don’t blame folks for holding these opinions because even I, Dear Reader, once believed the very same things. Back in high school I had an Olympic white Japanese Jaguar, a parental purchase spurred on by my love of the band Bush. The kindest way I could describe the guitar is problematic; the strings skipped off of their saddles, the bridge shimmied down, and it would not stay in tune no matter what I did.
Eventually I traded it in on something more reliable, unwilling to wrestle with the instrument. When I finally came back to the offset guitar 14 years later, I realized that insatiable tinkerer Leo Fender wouldn’t have released a guitar he didn’t think was ready, and so I pushed through my preconceived notions of its flaws to gain a better understanding of the thing. I came out on the other side with a deeper appreciation for the man’s work.
It seems to me that when a player has a bad experience with these guitars, it’s often because they’ve been poorly maintained. In cases such as these, I view it as an opportunity to educate and reevaluate. After a conversation or a quick adjustment, the player might still decide the models aren’t for them, but more often than not they seem to “get it.” And that’s enough for me.
So here I am, returning from an extended hibernation like a grumpy, shaggy bear; like the aging ensemble cast of a ‘90s sitcom, lured into a reunion for the cameras by the dangling carrot of a handsome payday, each secretly knowing that the end product would not be nearly as good as the show’s initial run; like a cherished childhood movie that, upon re-viewing for the first time in 30 years, has way more adult themes than your young mind could then comprehend, causing feelings of retroactive discomfort because you watched it with your parents in the SAME ROOM???
Prodigal namesake that I am, I have returned with my proverbial pen pressed to the also proverbial page of the Guitar Bar website to feverishly scrawl this open[ish] response in an attempt to give some context and gentle rebuttal to his comments.
“They were not particularly good guitars when they were first introduced.”
When the Jazzmaster and Jaguar were first released in 1958 and 1962 respectively, they were not only top of the line models, but top sellers as well. While neither model was exactly embraced by the Jazz community, they nonetheless found favor with a varied group of players and all but defined the sound of Surf music while still in its infancy. For a time, they seemed to be everywhere. Admittedly, perceived popularity does not a good guitar make, so let’s look at a handful of early adopters.
At first, session players and country pickers liked the models well enough to use them on stage and in the studio, including Wayne Moss, Hank Garland, Willie Nelson, and Luther Perkins, who has an engraving of the model on his tombstone. If more proof is needed, here are three separate performances of Roy Clark absolutely shredding “12th Street Rag” on a bone stock Jazzmaster and Jaguar. These videos remain favorites of mine because they show someone really digging in and playing fast melodic runs on guitars that people seem to think can’t handle that kind of vigorous right hand technique.
But if they were so good to begin with, why did sales eventually taper off?
A refinished ’65 from a couple of years back. I actually put the stock bridge back on this one instead of the sloppily installed TOM. It was awesome.
Previously, I’ve explained that the most common complaints with the model aren’t the fault of the design, but rather, trying to make that design do things it was never intended to do: wearing a set of light gauge strings. In the Jazzmaster, Leo Fender’s intention was to appeal to Jazz guitarists by creating a solid body guitar with the string geometry of an archtop: a pitched-back neck, a floating bridge, and a tailpiece, and most importantly, all specifically designed to work with heavy gauge flat wound strings. We’re talking 12s, 13s, and 14s.
Once lighter gauges (9s and 10s) became the norm in the early to mid 1960s, inadequate string tension reduced the downward force on the bridge, resulting in tuning problems and string skipping. It’s like going off-roading with bald tires: you can certainly do it, but expect to slide around a bit.
At this point in my career I’ve set up well over a thousand of these guitars over the course of my career, and in the overwhelming majority of cases, once you throw on a set of 11 gauge rounds and shim the neck as Leo intended, they just work. They were good guitars then, and they’re still good guitars today.
For more information on setting up these guitars, have a look at our Demystifying series and my May 2017 cover story for Premier Guitar.
“We’ve made them functionally better”
It’s true that Fender has devoted a significant amount of time and resources into solving the perceived problems with these guitars, including modified vibrato positioning, redesigned bridges, strategically placed nylon bushings, and even neck pockets angled at the factory to eliminate the need for shims. These are all good ideas, a few even great; as is often the case when chasing mass appeal, some have not been as successful as Fender might have hoped.
Take the Classic Player, which features an angled neck pocket and an Adjust-O-Matic bridge yet can still fall prey to the same string path issues of more vintage-correct models. The AOM style bridge was not designed with a vibrato in mind, with sharp, shallow saddle slots that can cause tuning problems of their own. And that’s to say nothing of the mismatched 12” radius bridge on a 9.5” neck, which causes the E strings to be higher off of the fretboard than the D and G in the middle and makes for an inconsistent feel across the neck.
Tumblr media
My friend Brian’s wonderful later model MarrGuar. An amazing guitar that set up beautifully.
Mooney specifically mentions the Johnny Marr model –– indeed a killer guitar ––  yet it’s worth noting that many of the earliest of the bunch left the factory with 56mm bridge string spacing, which turned out to be only a hair slimmer than the width of the neck. Many players reported problems keeping the outer strings on the fretboard, which eventually led to Fender adopting slimmer 52mm spacing in later production runs (linked in case you need one). Here’s a shot of a lovely black one with the worst example of this I have yet to see.
#gallery-0-5 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-5 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-5 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-5 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Scroll to see the neck and bridge string spacing problems.
A too-wide bridge…
…causing the E strings to fall off the neck when fretted
Strangely, the earliest American Professionals which came a few years later had the same problems, sometimes necessitating the need for aftermarket parts and prompting another mid-run update.
As for the new American Ultra guitars, they may not be for me but I can understand why many of the features might appeal to other players looking for a more modern take on the Jazzmaster. With an additional lead circuit control knob, a re-purposed rhythm circuit layout for out of phase operation, rollers for individual pickup volumes, and an S-1 switch for series options, it could be argued that functionally they’re more complex than ever.
However, once agin Fender curiously employs a mismatched bridge radius, this time a 9.5” bridge mated to a compound 10-14” radius neck, which puts the D and G strings higher off of the fretboard than the Es. Generally, compound necks work best when the string path is treated as a cone, flattening as it expands. In this case, a 16” bridge radius would set up far better than that of the stock part. I suspect we’ll start seeing even these guitars sporting alternative bridges before too long.
So yes, while it’s good that we’re seeing R&D dedicated to making adjustments, some of those adjustments haven’t actually solved the problems, but rather, changed the nature of them instead.
“Now you can actually play them.”
I’ve made this point abundantly not only in this piece but in nearly everything else I’ve done over the years, but the fact is that Jazzmasters and Jaguars were always playable –– stock bridge included. Take it from an ardent Mastery user: the original bridge is as viable as any other, and once it’s adjusted correctly it’s as fun as it is functional.
Not only is there a wealth of great music made with them over the years as proof, you can refer to articles on this blog, numerous posts on both my personal Instagram as well as Mike & Mike’s showing that the stock bridge is dependable and musical. Hell, every offset guitar the shop sells goes through the same setup process to show off what incredible instruments they can truly be with just a little extra effort.
Closing Arguments
Would you play this stripped ’61, original bridge and all? It was a total beast of a guitar.
Real talk: I get that Mooney’s comments may be a marketing tactic to steer customers toward the current lineup in the Fender catalog, and just in time for the holidays at that. You know the old song and dance: newer is better! Fender does make a great guitar and innovation can be a good thing, so to this I say, fair play.
Still, I have to believe there’s a better way to say so without throwing heritage –– and our beloved vintage instruments –– under the bus.
You see, over the last five or so years, it seems to have become fashionable in Fender’s corporate culture to downplay or outright disparage the legacy of Leo Fender, with reps at NAMM overheard saying things like “Leo didn’t get everything right” and “we fixed his mistakes,” phrases repeated at the onset of the latest feature set or spec tweak.
At best, comments like those in the previous sentence (as well as those which are the basis of this response) make Fender seem out of touch, and at worst, could erode the trust of a very loyal legion of customers.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll be saying it for as long as it needs saying: the Jazzmaster and Jaguar are Leo Fender’s most brilliant and misunderstood designs. It may have taken us 50 years to catch up, but now a growing and dedicated group of fans have found a unique sound here unlike anything you can get from other more traditional guitars.
Speaking personally, no matter what other instruments are available to me, I reach for an offset first. I have found my musical voice in the Jazzmaster and Jaguar, and I’m never more comfortable or more adventurous than when I have one in my hands.
One last quote:
“I have Jazzmasters and Jaguars… I have four in a line on my wall from 1966.”
Andy, if you’ve read this and have found any of it compelling, I’d love the chance to show you just how good those guitars on your wall can be. All I’ll need is a few sets of 11s or 12s, a screwdriver or two, and maybe a couple Cold Ones to share between us. Burritos are good, too.
Oh, and parking validation –– it’s a bit of a drive up from Long Beach and the last thing I want to deal with is finding a spot on those notoriously crowded Hollywood streets.

The follow up to 2017’s Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, on Nov. 17, 2020 fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons upcoming Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything must indeed possess powerful magic to contain so much stuff in 192 pages — the exact page count of its predecessor according to Jeremy Crawford, principal rules designer of the game. The product of 18 months work the book includes material for Dungeons Masters and players of 5E D&D alike. I had an opportunity to join the press briefing with Crawford and Greg Tito, communications and press relations director for D&D and let me tell you, sitting on this was really exciting. Reading and hearing what players speculated on and wanting to say, “You’re all right! It’s all in the book. All the character options and new stuff you’re guessing about are inside!” So let’s get into Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything.
On the cover for Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything Tasha holds an ornate grimoire covered with symbols from the planes of existence in stunning art by Magali Villeneuve.
A delightful conversation about 5E D&D
No sense burying the lead — all the options and fresh new modular content you thought might be in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything is there. Subclasses for all the classes are in there. Alternate class features from the most popular Unearthed Arcana in the entirety of 5E D&D are in there. The artificer class is in there — including some tweaks, new infusions and the Armorer subclass that was loved by people, according to Crawford. The Aberrant Mind sorcerer, UA’s most highly rated content ever, is in there and so are many from the past year. Spell Versatility and new Beast Master Companions are in there and I know there’s untold numbers of players stoked to hear this. There’s new artwork for the Artillerist Artificer Specialist that was shared during the briefing too.
A human artificer balances his Eldritch Cannon on his shoulder as seen in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything. [Art by Brian Valeza]
Like XGtE the book explores the titular character’s wonderfully complex point of view in comments on the content throughout, with nods to Tasha’s history in her comments and captions. One clue about Tasha’s mysterious origin reveals itself on the cover. The tattoo on her cheek is a chicken leg, which Crawford explained is an “echo of the chicken-legged hut that Baba Yaga lives in.”
A bunch of subclasses and class features only chicken scratches the surface of the scope of material. Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything is organized into four chapters. While perusing the material in the book readers learn more about Tasha and the lore surrounding her. Tasha’s life has involved the fantastic since the very beginning of her origins in the fey realms. As she became a brilliant and powerful wizard her adventures took her to other planes and dimensions so she is unfazed by beings of any sort, least of all her frenemy Mordenkainen.
Character options
Spells and magic items
Group patrons
Tools for Dungeon Masters
Customizing your origin is an important part of the development of the book and something the design team seems particularly proud of, for good reason. Players love the idea of more personalized character origin stories. I use This Is Your Life stuff from XGtE all the time and TCoE builds on that tremendously. Like, seriously a lot. The design goal was tools for players to create truly unique characters with amazingly magical origins and backstories.
This includes modifying traits during character creation to better reflect the story players want to tell and offers a lineage template with fill-in-the-blanks tools to totally personalize characters. The Lineage System introduces a new way to approach creating and playing characters and adventures in 5E D&D, a responsibility the design team takes very seriously as stewards of the game. During the press briefing Crawford and Tito explained how TCoE is one of multiple books demonstrating a shift in how D&D handles things like race.
Other changes include the removal of negative racial modifiers for certain races from Volo’s Guide to Monsters via errata. Crawford explained how their original intention for races like kobold and orc was as Monstrous Adventurers, separate from standard character options. This is why those options are included in their own section in VGtM along with options considered more powerful than standard in some cases, like yuan-ti and to a lesser extent goblins. Because this context is lost through the way so many players engage with 5E D&D through online tools and resources like D&D Beyond, it became a pain point for players and TCoE will include updated versions. Hooray for kobold and orc enthusiasts!
The Lineage System offers tools to create characters not bound by a species archetype. I love the way Crawford explained how this modular piece of content interacts with existing 5E D&D material. The core game, what is presented in the Player’s Handbook and other sources, illustrates an archetypal adventuring character like an elf. Choosing this option for your character represents playing Elfie McElferson in other words — the exact kind of elf that comes to mind when you think of D&D elves. The Lineage System gives players and DMs tools to disentangle characters’ personal traits with cultural traits. And worry not! The path to customization is very smooth according to Crawford, who emphasized it is not complicated at all.
Along with the new class options and alternate features players can customize how each class feels. This includes something that worms its way into the mind of every edition of D&D sooner or later.
Psionics! The Aberrant Mind is just one of the psionic themed subclasses from UA. Along with a few others, these psionic subclasses use a modifed version of the playtest mechanics, which Crawford described as “evolved.” I’m pretty middle of the road when it comes to psionics, neither thrilled to use them or abhorred by their inclusion in the game but I’ve got to say I really dug that Psionic Talent die so I hope that’s what he meant.
During the press briefing they did not get too deep into new spells and magic items in TCoE but there are some tidbits to share. For starters Tasha adds new spells of her own design to D&D canon. Tasha’s caustic brew and Tasha’s otherworldly guise are two mentioned and I’m excited to see more. Spells named for the wizards who created them evokes a sense of mystery and wonder in all D&D players and after all her incredible excursions and magical experimentation I’m certain Tasha’s influence on 5E D&D will be immense.
Spellcasters can boost their power with new spell focus magic items too, which sounds awesome. There’s got to be a magical cauldron, right? One of the magic items Crawford talked about sounds totally awesome — the Tarokka Deck. Not like, any old prophetic card deck though. This is THE Tarokka Deck, an artifact capable of trapping spirits. Can I tell you I lost track of what they said for a moment because I was daydreaming about a Ghostbusters inspired 5E D&D campaign.
Sidekicks (remember them?) get expanded in TCoE too. Resources to create your own customized sidekicks sounds like a lot of fun new toys to play with. When asked what the most surprising thing about the book is, Crawford revealed there’s a sidekick class. You can play as a Warrior, Expert or Spellcaster, which offers a slimmed down experience for perhaps new players or those looking for less complexity. This sounds awesome to me. I’ve used the Sidekicks content from UA several times and it is terrific, so more of that and more ways to use it can’t go wrong.
More than that though Crawford was surprised by “how much liberty players have to customize.” The Lineage System, tons of new class options and alternate features, spells, feats (wow I didn’t even mention those!) all combine to create more levers and dials players and DMs can use to tailor our game experiences and tell the kinds of stories we want with exactly the kinds of characters we imagine.
“Our work on the game is a delightful conversation with the community that never ends,” as Crawford put it. With tremendous amounts of fun, cool sounding new content like they’re brewing up in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, I don’t doubt it.

Oh! Are you still here? One last thing I’ll mention is the section on Magical Environments includes Eldritch Storms, magical fruits and magical roads, a Mirror Realm and a Mimic Colony. Stay nerdy.
Congrats! That new #DnD stuff you thought would be in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything is in there. #staynerdy The follow up to 2017's Xanathar's Guide to Everything, on Nov. 17, 2020 fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons upcoming…
