Let's talk about Chinese erasure.

LMK is a retelling/revisioning of a NUMBER of Chinese Mythologies. Most focused of being Journey to The West a story mostly focused around Sun Wukong.

Now. I have seen, so much fanart, fanworks, headcanons, character redesignes that change the characters from yellow legos (the legos actual colors NOT the fact they are Asian we're not doing that) to more realistic/human looking characters. And a lot of the time these include making these characters Black/Blasian.

Now first of all: I'm not talking about..i think its October? The October challenge to redraw characters as Black/African. I'm talking about art and work just year round.

Hey, first of all, I love that people are drawing more POC characters. But can you make these characters THE RIGHT FUCKING RACE?

The characters in LMK (Redson especially i see so much shit of him being black) are CHINESE they are CHINESE MYTHOLOGICAL CHARACTERS/RETELLING OF SAID CHARACTERS. They are NOT black.

I love seeing the representation and people learning to draw POC characters but please please do it with characters who arent as culturally significant as those from LMK. There's most of the Steven Universe Characters, there's any white characters from media NOT based in mythology you can draw as black but please please please do not forget

LMK is in China.the characters are Chinese. Draw them as such. Learn to draw Chinese characters and hairstyles.

Edit: I am not saying drawing them with tan skin is bad. Chinese people can be tan. but if you give them fucking braids and cornrows aka: black protective hairstyles then your just erasing their ethnicity aka: FUCKING CHINESE.

Bracket Info!

My starting list was the 700 illustrations included with first publications of each story or novel, this means the initial magazine printing in the uk and us (usually the Strand and Colliers, though other magazines get involved too especially in the later stories) plus the first novel edition if i could find it. I did Not include reprints or translations, but it might be fun for a later bracket if people want them!

I tried to get the best quality image available for each one but some are just not online unfortunately.

I filtered out some title banners and space-fillers/formatting-focused illustrations, but getting to 512 for a functional bracket is gonna take some elimination rounds first! Since part of the motivation here is to highlight some of the lesser known artists, i split this up into 30 'Sidney Paget' rounds, and 27 'Other Artists' rounds. These will last a week, but i'll be posting one of each every day (more or less lmao)

After these ill seed the proper bracket based on the elimination votes and we can narrow it down to a winner 1v1!

Poll Format Each poll will have 11-12 illustrations, the poll options are numbered and include a partial caption next to the artist name and story abbreviation (STUD, SIGN, SCAN &c.) Under a read more ill include the full captions, the print source, and a list of the characters or subjects present left to right.

I wanted to give a blanket warning for this bracket: These are drawings by white men in the 1890s-1920s, the vast majority are fine, but there is a handful that portray racist and classist imagery in line with what is present in the stories themselves. I can't consistently warn for these individually out of a list of 700 pieces, but i also dont want to pretend they arent part of this history or set myself up as an authority on which cross a line or not, so ive decided not to automatically exclude illustrations that might be offensive. Likewise, im not censoring any of the captions that are part of images, but will do my best to remove offensive terms where i'm typing them out.

honestly been going back and forth w myself on a lot of things lately attaching a read more for the sake of ik i'll be rambling like theres no tmr

a part of me wants to drop pnc but i havent really gotten everyone i wanted yet + im broke so i need to build my stash up *looks at clotho and eos* oddly enough pnc has been a game ive been pretty happy on playing still hate how i missed a login day tho tbf ive rarely borderline never interacted w the fandom so me just being in the dark w what goes on there has kinda been a blessing and a curse in a sense that i can enjoy the game in peace but it feels like im alone doing so

pgr im really REALLY tempted on dropping my glb acc, once nocti comes around which will prob be around the end of the school yr for me thats where i'd be like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ welp ig im done and drop that acc after playing around w nocti and whatev. tw im still not too sure abt?? prob when i get around to lvling up my main teams i can be like ok im done and drop that at any time since im just there to experience content ahead of time without being in cn directly

ive always had 50/50 feelings w being in the pgr fandom, tho being introduced to it on disc and then going to twt may have affected my views on this whole thing. esp when the side of the fandom i was first introduced to is like the lowest of the low, i dont want to go back to a place where a bunch of dudebro incels made fun of me for being afab and liking lee and me thinking that was a norm when it clearly isnt. its been 2 goddamn yrs and theyre still poking fun at that?? like my god grow up im so sick and tired of it.

if by a slim chance i still want to participate in being in the pgr fandom i'll just go back to lurking like ive always done in prev fandoms, if i really wanna be active in talking abt the game i'll talk abt it in servers or dms, but publicly i felt that i could never really comfortably talk abt how i feel abt it aside from here cause this site >>>>>> bc i felt like my opinions arent valid, tho that really applies to anything i do so 💀💀

pgr has been a really nice game for me to destress and detach myself from reality for a bit, tho now i wanna move on to other games and focus more on my ocs like i did back in the day. once i properly set up everyone's lore doc maybe in the future i'll make a game around them, nothing too big since i'll pretty much be making most of it, but i kinda wanna fulfill my childhood dream that was just recently unlocked

theres also that small part of me that wants to be known for my oc stuff rather than pgr stuff, but bc im not tagging w popular art tags im kinda just existing, and thats fine by me. hitting 500+ follows on twt was like peak realization of me going like "oh shit, 😨 maybe this big of a following aint for me" and it truly isnt lol

Its really funny and weird how, of all the european pagan mythologies, greek is the one white ppl know the most of by far.

Like, of course it makes sense, greco-romans were hailed as the peak of civilization by white european elites at least like, twice in history, but it’s still really wild like. We’ll know the names of every olympian and what exactly their deal is, know like 20 different random greek monsters who only appeared in like One Story,

but then u ask abt the british isles, site of a people who would eventually colonize the fucking world, and its like “uhhhhhh theres morrigan? Also some fairies. Is morrigan a fairy? I think there were some tree worshippers. Some dudes put blue paint on their body and had big shields i think?” and a book’s gonna claim there was an irish potato god and you’re going to believe them bcs you’ll be so wrapped up in the potato famine thing that you’ll forget potatos were IMPORTED FROM THE ANDES MOUNTAINS.

And then like folks will be familiar with like 4 norse gods maybe 5, know some words like asgard and ragnarok, but ask them who fenrir is and theyll be like “Is he important?”

Also if you ask them about germanic mythos they will draw a fucking blank bcs even tho the general public are familiar with at least a few germanic mythos things, we completely stripped out the germanic origins from them when we called them generic “fairy tales.” Same for france and the iberian penninsula i think. Also dont ask me which fairy tales come from where bcs i am a prime example of this, i do not fucking know, i just vaguely remember that they came from certain places and then spread from there.

Oh And absolutely FORGET about anything east of germany fucking forget about it. The slavic regions have a rich mythos and even ppl who are pretty knowledgable abt the stuff i said above won’t know shit about it, case in point, me! Go ahead! I know a bunch abt celtic stuff and norse stuff and a lill bit of german stuff, but ask me to bring up ONE slavic story! The only thing my brain is cookin up is that one about the lindwurm, and even that one i cant remember if its actually slavic!

Now Think abt how many white people claim heritage from places in europe that arent greece and italy. Think about how little those same ppl know abt their ancestor’s prechristian stories and beliefs. Im hispanic i know like one thing abt pre-christian spain and its that they had a funny word for fairies (i don’t even remember the name!), just as an example. Like isnt that fucking insane? You’d think a buncha colonizing douches competing with each other to take over the world would put a bit more effort into educating ppl abt the ancestral stories that set these guys apart from each other, but no, not really. And like dont get me wrong its not like this doesnt make sense. It does. The roman empire and later christianity overtook like all these myriad cultures years before colonialism and white supremacy was even a pipe dream, to say nothing about the internal strife that happened in the iberian peninsula and the british isles.

But at the same time, in recent years there’s been massive pushes to recover this lost culture (especially in those british isles places that arent england), and even with this effort, so much is unknown to a fuckton of people who, i repeat, claim heritage from these places. (In fact, one of those efforts probably set us back bcs it got caught up in bullshit ideology and mysticism and grabbed stuff from totally different people to support a bullshit point. Looking at you, nazis.) and it’s just kind of insane. Overall this is just a peak example to me of the hollowness and artificiality of the concept of whiteness. The master race can’t even remember their own ancestors, and ancient history had to be wiped away or made generic in order to support the notion that these people have something in common, and thus, something setting them apart from everyone else.

how does one get noticed as an artist? I have multiple platforms for my art like DA, Tumblr, and Ko-Fi, but it feels like everything gets drowned out by the sheer multitude of better artists. which, ya know, is kinda sucky bc my comm slots have been collecting dust for a month (and never mind I'm in a rough financial spot). I'm told my stuff is good, but that's from my small niche of friends, so it just feels obligatory :/

Hmm. This is really difficult to answer considering every social media platform works differently. Algorithms are constantly changing, so it makes it even more difficult to catch on. Posting everyday gets you the most engagement, and even with hundreds or thousands of followers, only half of them will see your posts because you arent posting regularly. ill insert a readmore.

I cant tell you how this all works because I refuse to learn how it works. Ive always just posted whenever I wanted, posted whatever I wanted, and have been doing so for many years. But I have found several things that have gotten me noticed have contributed to my growth. Before that, a really great art youtuber, Kelsey Rodriguez, does a really good job at giving advice regarding growing on social media as an artist and how to the run the business and growth side while managing the art, so Id check those out.

having a larger project, like a comic.

having a comic, and it doesnt have to be a webtoon or published on a comic hosting site, not only forces you to improve in your art by constantly drawing and experimenting, it also gives you something to post regularly. Posting regularly is important, and even if its only once or twice a week, the crucial part is that its consistent. this is more likely to give your followers content to look at, but it can attract people who relate or enjoy your comic, and can help solidify an audience. Ive done two comics so far, and my first one allowed me to understand how to draw them, and my second one allowed me to understand how to have fun with them. Both times I continued to grow an audience who enjoyed not only the comic, but myself and my other art.

fanart (unfortunately)

fanart often gets more views than original art, which is unfortunate because lots of people have awesome ocs and original art that should be noticed. but people like having context and lore to whatever theyre seeing, and if its connected to something they already know, it can bring them more joy than to look at something theyre unfamiliar with. While i dont draw fanart as much as I used to, drawing it regularly (i used to do a lot of anime fanart back in hs), can help build you an audience of people who enjoy the same media as you! it can help boost you even more if you draw fanart for smaller bands, shows, books, etc, because tagging creators or staff who have worked on those media can sometimes get them to like and share the post as well!

other artist interaction

you need to build relationships with other artists. I have to admit this has been difficult with me, but if you have artist friends online who also have an audience, you can all work together to introduce your audience to each others' art. many of my mutuals have similar followers, and this is because we all hype each other up, share each others art, and tell people about each others art. sometimes all it takes is for one mutual to share your art for you to gain an influx of hundreds of followers.

Overall, I want to encourage you to continue drawing. Commissions are not the end all be all of your value; you need to build an audience, build experience, and build consistency before you come to that point where people will commission you. Its a difficult reality, screaming into the void, but once you realize youre not the only one, you start to build connections and community with other artists for support.

i forget i had a phase where i had considered getting into ARPGs on deviantart ("art RPG" for those unaware, basically a system of drawing characters with light RP elements, usually earning you a in-universe/game currency to do more/get more of a character/breed/etc)

i was in the depths of wcrp, and i wasnt super into the idea of juggling rping *and* drawing-- that was one thing that made me step back from one i was in. some of these groups were not really... rp groups, they were art groups first. the narrative focused rps i did with wcrp were about writing and forming a large world and story- with no currency or anything to progress. nothing but participating in rp was recquired. most of the arpgs do have lore and all that but the ones i saw were more about making art to get more ocs and other kinds of upgrades etc. because art could earn stuff, and so could rp posts. rp posts earning something kind of made it feel more like homework to me in the end.

regardless while i stepped away from looking at arpgs like that, there was another section of arpgs which was far more about original species or the even less rp focused ones-- things like horse breeding, dog breeding etc with focus on genes, show potential etc. some of these groups still encourage storytelling or others do it on their own, but they arent often "rp" groups in the same way as wcrp or even the other arpg groups not focused on breeding. people also would collect these animals into their own kennels or stables, giving them proper show names etc and becing known for their animals by that name. some even being more sought out with their history.

the thing is, i had a weird introduction to these breeding focused groups. i was aware of it with some fantasy original species, but when i was....looking for mods for dogs in sims 3 i opened up a door i never expected to dive into lol. i was looking for mods for better customization of dog sims. well, i found a shit ton from players of sims 3 who had made their own kennel websites showing off their show dogs, what dogs were available for breeding/their pups, their family history, etc etc..... in turn these sites ofte had resources for the markings/cc/etc used to make these dogs look good, along with more sliders for changing their shape. (sadly this kind of scene did not seem to exist for cats. they also definitely existed for horses too, if not more.)

uh anyways how did this lead me to arpgs??? well it happened when some of the links i followed started heading to deviantart again, and i found that some people in the dog show arpgs would unitize sims 3 renders of their dogs. drawing over them, etc! the dogs and horse people did this and i thought, you know maybe itd be cool to get into it i used sims 3 for that stuff.

anyways. i never got into it, at the time i was far too busy. but every so often i see art from the people i followed for it, and i just love seeing it. i love seeing how deep these people have gone into their original breed's information and all that. i did lightly make my own dog breed in sims 3 as a test but, never got far into it....

oh uh, other fun fact about sims 3 renders? in 2019 before all of this, i was in the sso community on instagram and was gonna try rping on their, and quite a lot of people actually used sim 3 for their horse photos instead of sso, in order to have more accurate interpretations of their horses.

i guess this is my post or random niche community facts.

edit i realize i went on a mostly irrelevant tangent bc of my posts where i said ive always disliked the dsmp fandom, but if you were wondering Solely because of the allegations, no. stanning a real person always comes at a risk and while it sucks when things go awry i do think i'm normal Enough about my parasocial behaviors that i'll be fine mentally regardless of the outcome and will leave if i must. ok now onto the rest of the post

oh i'm ok discussing the community, just not like. the details of the allegations.

and the answer is: not particularly. the dsmp fandom is a pretty unique case, not in terms of content (i dont wanna sound like the kinda person who thinks minecraft rp is new) but in terms of community.

this is not to say that other fandoms surrounding real people are better, much less perfect, but they're definitely a more comfortable thing for me.

for one, i've seen a lot of people having the dsmp as a "baby's first fandom" sort of moment. i think this is because its something really popular that is harder to enjoy passively - while you can watch stranger things with your family and get the whole experience just by watching the show, with the dsmp you need to keep up with cc twitter pages and stuff to be fully in-the-loop, and this leads into fandom pretty easily. this means you have a lot of people going around getting into their very first discourse All At Once. and people who get Really attached to one thing and feel lost when suddenly the fandom they literally learned to draw/write/etc for goes quiet.

for two, the dsmp is a category that is broad as hell. its not like i watch all the ccs. i think that would probably make my brain melt from my ears. but when you have a category that is Broad As Johnny Bravo's Shoulders, its more like a million little fandoms than one big one, and they all overlap but don't really Share A Space. u can like someone's tubbo fanart and then see in their bio that they like, have a really strong vendetta against quackity or something. or vice versa. you also have a lot of shit to keep up with, which is simply too much for me. i will continue just having like. three dudes to think abt from now on rather than 30

thirdly, the thing Above about there being so many ccs does make the fandom more Baffling for everybody, and the community seemed to repeatedly add to that. i am not going to be like "hari and every popular blogger is evil! what about people who ARENT popular >:(" bc that is downright ridiculous, but think abt stuff like duo names, oddly specific tags, referring to ppl solely by nicknames, spreading conversation back and forth between multiple social media sites rather than just tumblr, etc - all of those things had a purpose and were perfectly fine (anyone who tells you that you must refer to your friends by username only just to make Their online experience more accessible is an idiot) but they did make things tricky for newcomers. friend groups aren't inherently cliques, but some of the ppl ive seen claiming that its "super easy to pop in and join no problem!" are the Exact folks ive seen unintentionally exclude others. again, not a moral failing, just a consequence of What Its Like in the fandom, especially to people who havent been around forever. and if you don't like a popular blogger youre kinda fucked bc they're everywhere- like can u imagine if there were Multiple clones of isa in the jse fandom, and they were like. your Only window into updates and shit etc etc? not to compare isa to anybody else. sorry to anybody who feels like theyre being compared to isa even if u dont know who that is. sorry

there's also an age difference in the fanbase And in the content creators. some of my favorite fic writers in the jse fandom are young, but some are also literally in their 30s with children and jobs. meanwhile a significant number of ppl in the dsmp fanbase making art n posting hot takes n stuff are under 17. particularly with tommy, ranboo, etc. and when so many of the streamers themselves are young, it can cause Problems - a lot of the adult ccs are at my college level, peak time for stupid behavior. not to mention,,, when you look at the jse/markiplier fandoms and see a fan being really sexual, its just like, "oh, maybe this is a little weird, but relatively harmless as long as they aren't being invasive about it." when you look into the fandom of a youtuber who isn't even old enough to vote yet, and see a fan being really sexual, it's more of a "holy shit that is predatory and fucking disgusting" moment.

^ continuing off of that, or at least the cc ages, their fame skyrocketed after a much shorter time than a lot of other creators. they did not have a normal adjustment period to being fucking everywhere. i'm not even one of them, and i didn't have a normal adjustment period to seeing them everywhere. older ccs with more professional stuff going on don't make the same mistakes as the newer folks. they know when to step away, too - as much as i wish jack was back on tumblr due to the theory content here, i also get why he's gone and understand that the environment would be Shaken tf up by his return.

having them be such a trend also meant that while the fandom is big, the anti-fandom is just as prevalent. in the jse fandom we have blue and their pals (yikes!), as well as a group of people that have generally negative feelings towards sean but are normal about it. we do not have entire communities dedicated to stalking him for "crit" and the amount of people speculating on his personal relationships have pretty much dwindled. we don't have people casually dropping his address and information about his family every time they meme about him. i can talk about watching jack and mark around ppl ive never met without starting off with a disclaimer! in fact, i frequently have to do the opposite with jack and mark, because their discourse is so Out Of Sight from the majority these days that some people just fucking ignore their friendship with pdp or past transmisogynistic jokes or etc etc etc. literally see ppl calling them "unproblematic kings!" every 2 seconds and gotta be like what the Fuck are you talking about

u also have the fact that the dsmp fandom became Such an ordeal during a really shitty time of fandom discourse in general. while people arent like going batshit insane over steven universe or whatever so much anymore, the moral arguments about fiction right now are hell on earth. it is pedophilia to watch cartoons and abuse apologism to think a character who was mean one time is interesting and if you are personally attached to a character then your feelings can just override canon in theory discussions. literally the worst time for anyone to be in a fandom regarding very morally/politically funky roleplay. as evidence i present whomever the fuck thought up the idea of posting proship discourse on r/dwt2

lastly i am far more invested in the egos as far as hyperfixating goes rather than the actual creators (as much as i love them) and would have zero problem just taking anti and making him My Own Guy (considering ive already basically done that) in the case that jack. idk. killed someone and was promptly cancelled on twitter for murder.

random lovely guzma urge to delyeet everythin on myne site bc not only did i make it for petz things back when i was active between petz folks and got some encouragement there and ended up never finishing petz things for it, but i also feel horrible and uncommited for it being hosted and made on weebly and for bein too lazy to yeet my shit over to neocities just cause that shit gives me a headache and instead of getting inspired by people i feel jealous and unwelcome

also been working on my sleep schedule its a bit better now and im like. better in general now..? idk how long i can keep this up but getting up early makes me just. so tired like all day urgh i do not understand how i used to keep myself up when this tired. tired tired. brain empty. hard to do shit for long. defo needs more breaks but i swear to god everything feels like its frying my brain but i got nothin to do indoors. guess i can go draw traditionall but i end up putting such high expectations on myself i just yeah. fuck it up. get stressed. not fun. i need to stop thinking about others bc i keep thinking i put effort into smthn i need to show it off.like if i wasted time here i might as well. no this isnt showable it sucks damn it

even stuff i do draw purely for myself as self indulgent shit i go urhh this aint right

oh and then i try doin a lil excercise so im not like. physically diyng but my god that tires me out like instantly. but its okay, baby steps.

hmm maybe i need a break from stuff but what kinda break what even is relaxing in my case? and "break from people" is a slippery slope of self isolation i always slip into. bit difficult to figure myself out

also, different thing, but ive been considering this for a good few months now and kinda ignoring it but i read one (1) thing and i m intrigued to do more n more research now but man do not like how moral ocd clicks perfectly with a lot of my most common issues . so i guess thats a thing to consider going into (like research) . if it helps .bc dear god i am Sensitive

but uhmmm yea sleeping better now ig like i went to sleep around ONE. my usual sleep time was 5-6 am a while ago !!!!!!! 1 am has always been my kinda usual time. man and i used to do that even when i had school and i *functioned* with less sleep. how did i do that. uhm. not well i guess

yeah it’s been a while since my last time logging on to here. but i dont have really an audience so at least i dont have to feel responsible for it ٩(｡˃ ᵕ ˂ )وｲｪｰｨ♪

i guess i’ll talk about why i use tumblr (no one wants to know but i’m not responsible for that cuz again, there’s no particular audience ^w^). i wont say i Love tumblr cuz i haven’t really used it enough to know enough about it. but it is quite special.

one of the things i like about tumblr is that there isnt a lot direct interaction going on. at least for me (and what i am going to say in this post is also just based on my experience of using this app). you reblog someone else’s posts, but you don’t necessarily need to know who they are. i don’t really see comments, not just in my posts but in other posts too. when i first started tumblr, i didn’t know about this. i thought it’s like other social media, where posts have a ton of comments. but i realized comment sections arent really the thing here.

instead, it’s more of a place for people to share their art, their interests and feelings and so on, without having to worry about attention or reach. it’s really a “blog” place instead of a place where reach or the amount of likes and followers are heavily considered. it’s actually better this way, we connect with people who really understand us (whether in the sense of understanding what you draw, or relating to your mental health struggles, etc), and we dont judge people based on how they advertise themselves. it’s more about the inside, but not the outside, if you know what that means.

i also dont see ppl arguing with each other and going on a war of right and wrong. maybe it’s just because i dont see the bad side of tumblr, but i still believe that it’s rather “peaceful” here. and not to mention i’ve found a lot of posts that describe feelings that i have too, despite not even knowing who are you all and your backgrounds and all that. on other sites, i have to look through different accounts to see posts like those, and a lot of accounts are private so there’s not much to know about people without hitting that follow button. but on here, just one hashtag, and i see loads of posts from different people of different backgrounds. (yes, im the emo one and i actively look for sad posts (not to say others are just emo- mental health is an important matter)).

plus i dont really Know anyone here, and i feel good being on my own here (but i dont mean that i hate everyone here). so it’s really like a secret place for me on here. like a hidden treehouse in the deep woods, but i still find different interesting creatures too! (hope you understand this analogy… im bad at words ; ;)

yeah imma go now and morph into an emo person now. enjoy the moon eclipse thing i guess :)

Is clip studio paint worth buying? I have a samsung tablet that I draw on, but like. Most drawing apps on the google app store arent great obvi. But idk if spending that much money on it is worth it?

Okay so I use a desktop and it's not compatible with my phone so idk how good it is on mobile (pretty sure you can get a trial version) but for me it was very much worth the money and considering I've done designs this program has paid itself back in the thousands.

It works like a combination of sai and photoshop, but with alot more, it can support animation, has 3d models you can use for posing(with no limit on the number of models mind you) , has it's own asset store where you can download a ton of different brushes from other users and other 3d models and objects as well.

It also has a manga canvas setting and they recently added a webtoon canvas preset, so it can save your webtoon into already cut parts so all you need to do is upload it to the site of your choosing.

I've used it maybe oof almost 7-8 years and it holds up hella nice.

I've used both photoshop and sai for years but I never went back to either after clip studio.

After Ink october I am pretty sure I want to make journal art. You know. Brain vometing! Hanging/talking to myself. Hanging/talking with my friends. Hanging/talking with my own OC’s. Hanging/talking with my favorite book/movie/comic characters. Drawing a fun, sad, dumb old or resents events. All the things!!! -Arent you already doing this?- No. I treat my online presence like a job even though I dont do commissions or are in the art work industry. This is my hobby. My super serious hobby that I’m good at and love. I love RPing, books, write, dance, animals, dream, eat and sleep too. Might even be my hobbies. But I dont sell those ether. Focusing on how many watches or likes I got instead of enjoying every bit the creation makes no sense! My reasons for being active on art sites is to share and find art and not least hang with other artists, not sell art! Finding a great art community is the best!!! Even better if you share interest! xD Not to say those who sell commissions probably also want this. But I must distance my thinking from the work idea!!! WELL THis all depends on how I feel next month. This can change. ABRUPTLY- Want to say I am not my feelings. But they control me more then I want to admit. so hopefully we look back at this post next month and say. YES. lets do this. ART JOURNAL GO GO GO!!!!!

oh, right, so pillowfort.social is a blogging platform much like tumblr. while its not yet at the slick polished stage of tumblr (tumblr has a several year advantage), it is already offering its users several things tumblr does not, such as:

NSFW/18+ content OK (within law, so no fuckin CP allowed ya creeps)

Blogs toggleable as NSFW, as well as INDIVIDUAL POST NSFW toggling

edits to the original post changes all reblogs of the post across the site--so no “fuck they reblogged my drawing already but i just noticed i fucked up and need to fix smth”

toggle reblog-ability and comment-ability per post

if u make smth unrebloggable after its already been reblogged, u can either let the old reblogs stay but be unreblogable any further, or delete all reblogs!)

choose who can view each post if u dont want it just public (only me, only mutuals, only followers, only logged in users)

toggle whether non-logged-in folks can see ur NSFW content (bless)

if multiple people/communities you follow reblog the same thing it compiles it into one post on ur dash so u dont scroll past the same thing 6 times

“communities”, which are basically like, uh, a group? so it has its own little discussion area and its own feed (that also shows up on ur dash ofc) but any group member can contribute, theyre themed on certain things...

for example, i made one for WoW Goblins specifically! :^)

there’s art communities for showing off your stuff to people who arent even following you, great way for artists to attract attention, theres LGBT+ communities, fandom communities, all sorts of stuff so u can find a nice user-made compilation of the kind of content you wanna see

tells u how many mutuals u have, and u can click to see a list of only ur mutual followers

replies on posts can be replied back to, encouraging conversations instead of just random comments (and letting artists thank ppl for saying nice things <3)

replies can also be “like”d!

filter the posts on a blog ur viewing to show only original posts or only reblogs

can put more than 10 images in a post (idk the limit, I have a post w 12 at least tho)

easy access toggle to if u wanna see nsfw on ur dash or not, so u can Safe It while ppl can see ur screen and switch back real quick later

u can put images in ur blog sidebar lol

only show notifs for replies, if u want that i guess

AND SO MUCH MORE I CANT REMEMBER OR MAYBE EVEN DONT KNOW ABOUT!

It also has stuff we like from tumblr, such as:

searchable tagging system

direct messaging (via inbox, not like the chatboxy tumblr IMs) that you can disallow based on follower/mutual status or disable entirely
