opinions on riordanverse ; my edition

a lot of people have been doing this so i decided why not right. probably gna lose some followers or smth but anyways. pls respect my opinions! if u disagree, thats fine, but please be polite. unless any of my opinions strikes u as morally wrong then pls point it out to me respectfully. thanks!

- i actually liked drew. im so sorry to everyone who hates her but full offence, why. think about it this way ok, first of all drew became hc because silena died. silena was the traitor, the one who betrayed chb, yet after she died campers celebrated her as a hero? and then drew suddenly has to replace her and live up to idk that legacy she left behind,, when all of a sudden this girl named piper swoops in and takes her place. idk abt u but i wld be salty abt that too. not only that, but as an asian, the chances of drew having faced racism/bullying as a child is pretty high (she studies at brooklyn academy). which means that when she finds out shes a demigod, and arrives at chb where most of the campers are white (this is an assumption btw), she’d obviously be scared of being bullied for her skin color right?? so the first thing she wld do before the campers get to bully her is to bully them before they can do so. (sentence structure here is wack i apologize) ofc this might not even have happened, drew could have had a perfect childhood && was a b1tch for no reason, BUT EVEN THEN HER ROLE AS A BULLY WAS PRETTY VITAL BECAUSE THAT FURTHER SHOWED THE CONTRAST BETWEEN HER AND PIPER,, HIGHLIGHTING PIPER AS A HERO//GOOD CHARACTER,, AND THEREFORE MAKING READERS LIKE PIPER MORE. anyway stop hating on drew please. ALSO WHY IS THIS SO LONGA SDFJHG

- jason isnt bland, the fandom just kinda erased his backstory (thanks to @pjohoo-memes for the phrasing lol)

- reynabeth wouldnt have lasted/would have broken up several times. idk i just see them as two extremely powerful characters who have firm opinions and will definitely clash at some point. in a platonic relationship,, i can see them as really good friends but as lovers? idk i just think theyll break up

- the dam and not my type jokes are srsly cringey and were never funny. ik that seems hypocritical since my username literally makes use of the dam joke but honestly i dont actually like the joke. its not funny to me and has never been funny

- the seven were not best friends. they definitely argued,, and honestly probably werent as close as the fandom makes them seem. like ure dumped with 6 other people, out of which u only know a few. my introverted ass would have jumped off the argo 2 quicker than leo valdez could bomb camp jupiter up. also leo was a dick to frank. so what if frank is bigger sized?? thats not a valid reason to tease him

- the fandom needs to stop hating on octavian while worshipping luke. if u hate luke and u say u hate octavian too, then okay. but if u tell me ure a luke stan but u despise octavian?? imma disagree w u. luke was worse than octavian im sorry. first of all, octavian being a dick was kinda justified. hes been after the praetor position for so long, and everyone keeps saying to “wait for jason” when suddenly this dude, whos a son of NEPTUNE (neptune wasnt liked much by romans), and the camp decides to make him praetor?? dude i would be pissed off big time. and then afterwards, he finds out that greek demigods are real and the dude they made praetor is greek. AND THEN GREEK DEMIGODS COME TO CJ AND ONE OF THEM BOMB IT UP?? octavian has been told all his life that greeks are scum and this dude called leo valdez attacks cj. sure it was an accident, but did octavian know that? no. so it was honestly justified that he was such a salty prick im just saying. also some of yall be hating on octavian for cutting a teddy bear open and thats the funniest shit ive ever heard i swear

- luke didnt go to elysium

- travis and connor stoll r way too underrated. the two have been head counselors of the hermes cabin since luke was revealed as a traitor, can u imagine the stress? luke, the person they probably looked up to as a brother, betrayed them. and they didnt even have time to process this when they were thrown the roles of being hcs. that would have been so stressful and i would probably have broken down if i were them. the stoll brothers taking turns to wake up at ungodly hours because a new camper is crying and homesick and terrified, the stoll brothers having to comfort and take care of new campers, having to deal with the amount of people in that cramped space because not enough campers are being claimed fast enough. having to resolve issues between campers in the hermes cabin all the time. the stolls arent just comedic relief, and we need to stop treating them as such

- tratie shldve been canon idc idc

- demigods of the demeter cabin arent talked about enough and i love the fact that meg was demeters kid. like she isnt the child of one of the big three yet shes so powerful.

- we need to hype clarisse up more her character arc was phucking amazing

- rachel is overhated. sis found out greek gods exist and regularly come down to earth to fuck around and went “ok cool”. queen shit behavior methinks

- the floor 19 crew of mcga is srsly underrated. like do u even remember halfborn gunderson, mallory keen, tj, etc??? bc i feel like we only remember samirah, magnus, alex, and sometimes blitz and hearthstone

- sadie (tkc) was kinda annoying at first. i like her more now tho but i rmb not liking her for a phat while

- tkc and mcga need more love

- carter kane and jason grace arent boring. theyre just really sweet boys who are too good for this world and yes yes yes

- hazel and frank (especially frank) need to be hyped up more. i hardly ever see anything about them. also yall seem to forget that frank was literally made praetor and that even hecate admired hazel and was willing to fight beside her because of how powerful she was

- frazels age gap is kinda sketch but i still think theyre really cute

- nico definitely had trauma from going to tartarus on his own

- GROVER IS PERCYS BEST FRIEND

- annabeth isnt smarter than leo but neither is leo smarter than annabeth. ive seen a lot of discussions about who is smarter and heres my hot take on it: neither. theyre equally smart, just in different ways. leos a genius mathematically speaking. he has no issues solving math problems meant for people much, much older than him. annabeth on the otherhand, is great at strategies etc. she can make an army of 1000 more powerful than the enemy, even if theyre outnumbered. so in my opinion, both are equally as smart//u cant compare their intelligence, because their talents lie in two different areas.

- while i do agree rick riordan isnt a god and that hes bound to make mistakes,, AND that hes given us a lot of representation,, if the representation offends the people its sposed to represent, then theres a problem. im talking about piper as a poc and wearing feathers in her hair. im not a poc, so i cant speak for them on whether or not its wrong, because i dont know either. HOWEVER, i have seen multiple posts BY pocs talking about how they didnt really like rick’s representation of piper, and thats an issue. pocs have been and are still oppressed and discriminated against by many. as a white cis man, we cant really blame him for not knowing (tho he could have done a research,, asked some pocs,, idk), but by representing pocs in that manner, hes influencing impressionable kids/teens into thinking “oh pocs wear feathers in their hair all the time” etc, which isnt true. the pjo/hoo series is extremely successful, and kids who read the books will probably start forming inaccurate opinions on pocs. the amount of fan art that depicts piper with feathers in her hair dont help either. “but rick said so in the books, so its canon” yeah well rick isnt a god and he can get some things wrong at times. im not saying we should cancel him, im saying we should start educating ourselves and not spread false info like pocs wearing feathers in their hair all the time. also that snake song shit where she sang Summertime was just- yeah. bc heres the thing you can be racist, and still include minorities, but portray them in a racist way. And even then, ignorance isn't a thing to admire. Getting those facts wrong still has a major impact. It continues to perpetuate racist stereotypes.

- the fact that most of the strong female characters in the series refuse to be “girly”, and ngl i dont really like that. just because ure girly doesnt mean u cant be strong.

- piper would have been a great way for him to start making the strong characters act girlier, but instead he went with the “I’m not like other girls” trope which is quite obnoxious to hear constantly, and I don’t think it’s necessarily great for younger girls to read that idea growing up. the closest we've ever had to a strong female character who was also into "girly" things was Silena. when I was younger I admired Piper's "I'm not like other girls" thing, but then I got older and realized that the whole mentality of "not like other girls" is super obnoxious, and a little bit toxic

1. poor dean. Ok couple things: 1) he elder sibling'ed it SO HARd! he didn't even like Adam, but he still tried to keep him safe(I think). he gave him a hunter's funeral! I just. It was nice to see. It was also INCREDIBLY painful to hear the realization of "you were always like dad, I never could be" and the fact that he didn't even see it as a good thing anymore? fUCK man, that huRT me. Dean tried so hard to be something he wasn't, he got probably the brunt of the abuse(because he didn't measure up to that metric like Sam always would), and in the end all it got him was...just. so much pain. Like it felt like John left his Broken children behind to get a new one, and just turned them into his quest for revenge. It was SO So fucked

LIKE ok listen. John's kinda set up as the ideal of hunting. They martyred him! And I was halfway sold provided they didn't mention him again. Then! he did this thing where he abandoned his kids, seeing them only as tools to fulfill his quest for revenge, literally broke them(that too late thing+zachariah saying "it's in your blood" when really it was just trained from a young age), got a NEW family he treated a lot better. I just. I have...NO idea how I'm supposed to see him as a good guy here. Maybe I just kin Dean, or his plight is WAY more sympathetic(it is, Sam is kinda pissing me off), but John's just...coming off worse and worse and they KEEP doing it!

Also! this whole cycle of revenge thing! about how if you keep taking an eye for an eye, everyone ends up blind! they barely escaped this time, and I think this was the second revenge plot that I can think of with MONSTERS alone! it was a BIG theme! Like!! hunting sucks! revenge makes you end up in worse places! it's like this one episode was made to show how SHIT hunting was!

4. Individualism. Ok this is a big one. Alongside the whole revenge plot thing(which is BIG, and a hunting sucks), this one drove home the sheer individuality of hunting. But while some of the writers see that as Badass, this one made it seem lonely, and painful. Like the flip side to American Individualism is American Chronic Loneliness. I know this one was used to process the ennui of the post recession/post 9/11 time, and it's doing very well for that, but it kinda ends up like this show is EVERYONE'S therapy all at once! the gang's all here! and we're gonna traumatize you in the process as well.

EDIT: and yeah yeah yada yada american individualism is King and then so is it’s accompanying loneliness in the post 9/11 post war in iraq post recession world(we were not having fun in 08/09)

and I get that this show is the writer’s therapy and whatever

(I just thing this is phrased better)

5. bring him back. Connect! Look. I know it breaks the core ethos of this episode. But having Weird Esoteric Hunter siblings would have been SO FUNNY!

give me more sibling content! Sam+Adam teaming up against the Eldest Sibling Dean WAS SO FUNNY! I WANT MORE OF THAT

6. SAM WHAT THE FU-. Look. I hate John. I very much hate John. They set up the Sam/Dean dichotomy in regards to John first episode, and Sam acting more like an ass+like his dad is. Not making me like him. Also I feel like this was written to sympathize with Dean. Which makes the finale even more ironic, I feel.

7. Listen. Listen. One of you has to keep track of continuity. Like I know this becomes a WAY bigger problem later in the series, but if a certain writer wants to process/examine a certain part of the Life/Story(and they should, they set up a lot of interesting stuff), they have to keep track! Because then the show becomes everything all at once.

Like this show has ALREADY started feeling like fanfic of itself, where it just kinda does whatever it wants with its own concepts. And the concepts are GREAT! but you can TELL how inconsistent it is, even in the kripke era

like it ends up being Study of X, Riff on X! and I think that's where the inconsistency comes from. It's also why it's so fucking Excellent in places.

Bela didn't fit the narrative. That's why they didn't like her. I said at the beginning that an Int'l art thief does NOT fit the vibe of "grungy Angsty American Midwestern gothic" and I was right. With the lucifer story and the vibe she didn't fit, and so they just killed her as foreshadowing, and only used her like that. God I wish they'd riffed on her, especially because her callouts were all completely correct

1. the spark that lights the fire

this is my BABY you guys. i mean... this fic just brings me so much joy to write, and i’m incredibly attached to it. i am so proud of my wordbuilding- it might honestly be my favorite part of it. like it was so much fun getting to do research about deities and figure out how i could apply various names from canon and from the mythology/religion of different cultures to the planets and what not. also the way i incorporated momo and appa (MO-2 and APPA) makes me SO HAPPY. like it’s a tiny thing, but i am very proud that i came up with that, tbh. i know only one chapter is up so far, but i am so excited to keep posting and seeing peoples reactions to it (i might post the next chapter friday? it’s christmas though so idk. maybe the 26th? idk it’ll be out this week.)

2. flowers do not bloom without a little rain

okay this was my first ATLA fic, so it has a special place in my heart. i love the concept of this so much, and i was so surprised that it’s actually pretty popular? ummmm... yeah. i did edit the ending because i didn’t like it, but... now i love it. i always will. i love a good soulmate fic so... yeah. i got the idea for this from a pinterest post, actually, and adapted it a little bit to make it my own. but yeah, this was fun to write, even though i was nervous to post it at first.

3. just want to say how i love you with your hair down

oh jinzula... my precious rarepair.... um yeah i love this fic. i saw a tumblr post that gave me brainrot, and rather than doing a zukka fic, i decided to do a jinzula fic. i love the entire concept behind it, where azula knows she loves jin and wants to say it, but can’t because of everything that’s happened in her life. it’s a redemption fic, but it’s less about her redemption than it is her relationships after it. i really love the idea of her actually loving really easily and people continually letting her down, so i played around with that and ended up really loving it. i also wrote it in one sitting so.... brainrot. i am very proud of it, though, especially because i got to explore a character who often isn’t explored a lot, in my opinion.

4. who knew it would end like this

so tbh i hate the title of this fic. i think if i renamed it, it would be called happy accidents or something like that, because that’s really what it’s a fic about- an accident that brought two people happiness. but besides that, i love this fic. i worked on it for several months, and i’m really happy with how it turned out. i loved blending together a modern au with ba sing se and bending. and i got to write a really fun interaction between the gaang and sokka- the intervention.... that was fun to write. this is another fic that i didn’t expect to kinda... get as big as it did? i was surprised. but yeah, theatre kid zuko and engineer sokka... i am weak for them.

5. when the stars light up the room (i sit and talk to the moon)

i hadn’t really written a 5+1 fic before, so that was really fun. i love the idea of sokka talking to the moon as a way to talk to yue, and i think it would be really sweet to have zuko begin doing it, too, even though he never really met her. i also liked getting to move through different stages of their relationship without actually having to dive into their psyche (because i’m lazy, lmao). i think this is just a really sweet fic, you know? it’s not complicated or anything, but i still love it and am proud of it.

i know i already tagged you in stuff today but.... why not? anyways @zukkababey and @sokka-with-his-hair-down .... if yall want to do it.... if not that’s cool too (no pressure as always) 💖

9) keith is living. almost has out-of-the-closet energy. i bet that scene of him roller skating is either after a) he comes out to his wife and divorces her or b) he gets a call from mo and flies straight out to cali to meet up with him.

10) the editing is so good you guys holy shit they jsut never quit over there do they?

11) a shot of mo in some suburb. could be a family member or a friend’s house? which again leads me to think he’s in california.

12) there’s this TV show called “America’s Most Unsolved Crimes” that mo shows up on bc he’s being solely blamed for the crash. how dawn and blair managed to avoid any blame whatsoever is beyond me, but mo is an excellent scapegoat since he confessed on record. no idea who the guy sitting on the desk talking about him is tho, since he wasn’t announced as one of the new guest stars. probably just a one off. maybe this is where “reenactment dawn” comes in from the IMDb page?

13) mo is bringing back the 70s and i do not like it. when i said the 80s were cool bc nobody knew how to dress themselves This Is Not What I Meant.

14) he wouldn’t just casually play basketball with some random kids, these are probably either his cousins or his nephews or the kids of a friend. again leads me to believe he’s in california, possibly visiting marcus? it would make sense. either that or we finally get some real concrete background on mo that isn’t total bullshit.

15) keith is in contact with mo. it’s hard to tell if keith went to cali to see mo or if mo came to NY seeing as both are extremely suspicious. assuming mo is in cali that is. keith is definitely going to get mo back in the game. speaking of mo, this entire first 30 seconds is Mo-centric, so i bet mo’s arc is going to be plottier than blair or dawn’s in 1“A” (showtime doesn’t really have A and B arcs for this show bc there’s no midseason hiatus i just like the terminology)

Um uhh I don't cry too much unless I'm angry and that was IDK maybe a few weeks ago? IDK

No I'm too straight forward with shit I can't even joke. Got told a joke today and I took it seriously (back to day zero on that)

Their height usually. I can identify a lot of heights accurately (safety and fighting reasons-what if I gotta fight that person idk but don't worry I don't cause trouble)

Really dark brown, almost near black in some angles (to me that's cool and sexy as fuck brown eyed folks where ya at)

7. Scary movie or happy ending?

Scary movie. Always, I can't get enough of it.

I'm a fast learner when it comes to most things (if it will benefit me for sure or helps someone else). I can lick my elbow due to my long neck. I can come up with random lyrics or poetry always after I shower. I can think of random things but there is always a reason behind it.

Right here in the Midwest, I ain't gon say the state, too personal.

10. What are your hobbies?

Shiiii writing poetry, lyrics, sometimes stories, photo shopping, video editing, day dreaming, going outside for a simple walk, and sometimes I play various video games on my Nintendo DS/3DS or Xbox 360. I used to do sewing, crocheting, making friendship bracelets, and drawing in my free time but... eh

11. Do you have any pets?

Yea just my bebby Sharif... right now she is on my bed as I blast music in my ears. She is curled up in a tight ball partially covering her face... yall don't know how much I love her she is the best cat we have ever had.

12. What sports do you play/have you played?

I could play anything growing up (except kickball and slowly sports that involved balls cause I'd get hit with them). I have done two years of track and field doing sprinting and I got on varsity my 3rd year of high school. I also liked playing this "kid friendly" version of dodge ball that was called "oskee"?? I'd avoid the game the whole time giving people balls to hit with, I'd yell "WHO WANTS A MEAT BALL" with a goofy Italian accent then boom I'd be the last one on my team and I'd have to try to get everyone back in the game (as boys tried to throw balls at me hard as FUCK and I dodged that shit like I was in the Matrix). Call me a demon but I did not mind the national fitness pacer test (American standardised physical testing for non Americans) or any of those tests and I did better than all the girls every single time (except that stretch shit my ham strings were tight as fuck but not anymore). I'd at least do 30-50 laps before I just died. I also enjoyed doing 2 years of weight lifting in high school. I've also done a year of martial arts (still practice it when I'm angry). So I'm a pretty fit person but hard to tell when I can just sleep all day.

13. How tall are you?

Actually like 5'3 and something but it's so close to 5'4 I just round it to that.

14. Dream job?

Being a pathologist because I've always been fascinated with bodies and how people have died either from being killed, diseases, illnesses, the process of what a dead body goes through, etc. Yall prolly can not tell in the midst of my goofy shit posts that I really got a passion for some intricate things- I hate to brag on how well I did academically and shit.

15. Favorite subject at school?

About any extracurricular class I had was my favorite. My most favorite was my science classes (chemistry and human anatomy & physiology) and of course English.
