3rd September 2021: Stock Dove, Red Admiral, moths and more at Lakeside and home
After enjoying lots of birds in the garden including some nice House Sparrows having a good splash in the bird bath this morning as I worked, I got to Lakeside and walked down the northern path from east to west. I encountered a brilliant Speckled Wood settled on a bush which I enjoyed looking at and took a photo of which I tweeted on Dans_Pictures. My cameras with me as planned for the lunch time walk of the sunniest day of the week was my once weekly visit with my regular lens which is with landscapes in mind on what seemed would be the sunniest day (I do still take landscapes on the walks with the big and macro lens when I only have those) and my now once weekly visit as the Great Crested Grebes have chicks again with my long distance specialist especially for birds bridge camera. I usually bring just one or two lenses/camera options occasionally three on the lunch time walks as they are a snippet of my working day where I watch wildlife and take photos whilst getting exercise rather than a full wildlife/photography trip so I don’t have the most time to switch lenses. I did toy with the idea of putting my macro lens in a bag and bringing it as sunny days at any time of year can present more macro photo opportunities but I didn’t. I took a rare butterfly picture of the Speckled Wood with my bridge camera as my regular lens couldn’t seem to focus on the butterfly this time. I took the first two pictures in this photoset down this path of a view and a stripped back cow parsnip a flower I have enjoyed so much this year which looked interesting.
Coming down the steps I noticed a family photographing something with a phone. And as I rounded the corner I was thrilled to see the gorgeous bright Red Admiral in the third picture in this photoset rested well on a bush in the sunshine. I redeemed myself with my new this year regular lens which I am pleased with for many reasons as I managed this picture and one other I tweeted. A precious moment as a different butterfly to the list of them I’ve been seeing this week and with Small Whites too a sunny late summer day brought a few out. A Small White nearly flew in through my window at home earlier. It then became a brilliant few minutes for appreciating and photographing the small things of nature, with fleabane and great willowherb in one photo, an interesting scene of a fallen or picked great willowherb flower on the water which looked beautiful in the sun I tweeted a photo of this and I saw some delightful pond skaters a highlight here in summer on Concorde and Kornwestheim the two adjoined lakes that I had seen a few times this year before so I was thrilled to see them and this was the first I managed a photo of this year which I also tweeted. There was a nice gaggle of them which was sweet to see. I then took the fourth picture in this photoset of the sun reflecting into the lake I enjoyed and photographed a lot of reflections today and also the fifth, sixth and seventh pictures in this photoset as I walked between the lakes.
I walked around beach lake and out via the path between the two fenced off nature reserve areas and took the eighth picture in this photoset of a gloriously partially eclipsed male Mallard on beach lake. On beach lake also the two Mute Swans were present and quite dominant. Hearing them flap was interesting radiating a bit across the water like a Greylag Goose, also present on this lake today, flapping did for me the other day. Lesser Black-backed Gull was on a buoy alongside the Black-headed Gulls too. The regular lens showed its worth in coming today with some landscape pictures I was pleased with on the walk especially of beach lake. But with only the Speckled Wood taken with the bridge camera as that stage as I saw an adult Great Crested Grebe and heard the chicks beside vegetation with their sweet calls but I didn’t get a chance for photos I considered if I was right to bring the bridge camera. It would have been an epic walk to have the macro lens so I thought I should have had this instead.
But in the northern fenced off nature reserve area I then found out why I was maybe meant to have this camera today. As I saw the group of sharply dressed and marked Stock Doves with their sweet little bursts of colour picking in the grass. If I was to have my big lens on my DSLR and bridge camera both with me on a walk this would be in the bit of the venn diagram where they cross. As it was far enough away for the bridge camera to be a good option, but I could have also made something of it with my big lens I think. Which I did do at this point with this bird last year, so it was the bridge camera’s go this year and I did get a picture I was quite pleased with which I tweeted. Had I had the normal and macro lens as it was never in my head to have my DSRL and the three lenses today I wasn’t bringing the big lens I would have kicked myself as I did last year with them as the Stock Doves would have been too far away for any photo. It was just fantastic to see the the Stock Doves again, they have made a delightful addition to the bird scene locally in late summer coming here when they did last year so its nice with continued working from home getting to spot that and know its likely year on year now.
My evening walk for a Friday was a little one around the green out the front tonight instead of Lakeside again as I was feeling a bit under the weather. I took the ninth picture in this photoset of a hedge and also liked seeing more autumn leaves with some nice yellow mixed in with the greens, taking a photo of a tree visible from the house with the house in the background so flipping things around a bit and getting nicely into the scene visible from the house and noticing again and photographing some mallow which I spotted the other side of the hedge when we returned home on Monday. It was great to take in the leaves as well as the divine purple flower of this plant which I hadn’t really before. It was lovely to take a photo of the quite rare bit of fleabane that is on the green out the front and not within Lakeside which I noticed recently. I also managed a photo tonight of a fantastic brown spider which has been on our door all week with another high up by it.
This evening I took in some glorious sky scenes like the one in the tenth and final picture I took in this photoset. Before bed some splendid moths flew in downstairs, I took photos of my first ever beautiful dark brown Spectacle and one I’d heard of before the Square-spot rustic I tweeted the photos and there were Box Tree moths in too. Wishing you all a great weekend.
Wildlife Sightings Summary: My first ever Spectacle and Square-spot rustic moths, one of my favourite birds the Great Crested Grebe, one of my favourite butterflies the Red Admiral, Mallard, Black-headed Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Mute Swan, Greylag Goose, Stock Dove, Woodpigeon, Collared Dove, House Sparrow, Starling, Magpie, Jackdaw, Speckled Wood, Small White, spider and Box Tree moths.

i don’t wanna walk alone
somehow i never posted this? i wrote this last summer and i love unrelenting fluff so! song insp
pairing: royality
content tags: long-distance relationship, SO much fluff, proposal fic, brief mention of anti-gay protesters

Patton missed Roman. Roman missed Patton. But they couldn't complain, could they? Not when they knew exactly what they were getting into with a long-distance relationship.
They'd made the choice for their jobs. And they loved their jobs, almost as much as they loved each other
Patton had gotten the 'better' end of the deal - still at home, surrounded by their established friend group. But they'd met Lo & Virge as a couple, had introduced Remy & Emile as a couple. Pat hadn't realized how lonely it could be surrounded by such dear friends.
Roman was the one on the road, with an ever-changing cast. Of course he had friends - he attracted people like fire draws moths. But he was, admittedly, a lot, all the time, and had a tendency to consume those who surrounded him just the same way.
They found time to visit, but even once a month was expensive, and never felt worth how short the visit was, and it could never be enough
Patton trudged through the city one day, admiring the sun and trying not to spend too much time thinking of the last time he'd walked through this park.
Roman, in London this week, did the same, trying his hardest to picture their hometown activities here in Berkeley Square. They could get ice cream, and Patton would get something bright-colored and sweet and it would melt down his hand because he'd get distracted while eating it.
Patton was suddenly called to the present by shouting voices. An anti-demonstration against last week's pride parade. He felt his heart sink, listening to their shouts.
He took out his phone, looking down to avoid eye contact with the yelling mob. But as the screen lit up, the picture was of him and his boyfriend at last year's Pride. Roman had been in full form: a rainbow cape, the trans flag powdered into his hair, killer eyeliner... and the shirt that said 'The First Pride Was A Riot'.
Patton stopped in his tracks. He looked up at the protestors, then down at his phone again.
He turned on his heel and walked directly home. He had some things to arrange.
Roman was definitely not at all worried or antsy that Patton hadn't yet responded to his 'good morning' text, and definitely had too much else to do to keep checking his phone over and over.
They had a new cast member, so a full dress rehearsal in addition to their punishing performance schedule. He was focused, for the group. But he may have quickly sent Pat a picture of the marquee, just to be sure that he'd seen their thread today.
The cast finished their run and started to drift away, laughing and handing out water bottles. They had a whole three hours before that night's call. One of the swings asked Roman if he wanted to join them for a snack, but Roman couldn't shake the itch of no response from Patton.
Finally, his phone buzzed, and he practically dove to check his phone.
🐶💙: Hey honeybunches! Are you in the middle of rehearsal?
❤️🌟: Just got out, Pattycake! Can you call?
🐶💙: How about FaceTime?
Roman grinned and pushed his hair back self-consciously as the camera turned on. They usually saved FaceTime for their off days - they'd learned fast how much time could disappear into just staring into one another's eyes.
Patton's smiling face appeared on the screen. He'd redone his hair, a clean cut and newly-shaved fade. He was also wearing... a bow tie? a white bow tie? Roman couldn't make out the background either. It was too dark, but Pat's face was visible.
"Hey, sweetie," Patton chirped. "How was rehearsal?"
"It was really good, love, the new guy is great. Where- you look so good!"
"Awww, you charmer, this old thing?"
"Where are you Pat?"
"The real question is, where are you, Ro? I think you missed your cue."
Roman's heart started to jump in his chest as he stopped short by the stage door. No, he couldn't be...
But his romantic heart urged him to walk back towards the wings all the same.
One of the techies, a wonderful human named Kai, was waiting by the greenroom door. He caught sight of Roman and grinned. "No going onstage without full costume, Roman, you know the rules."
Roman's heart had dissolved into butterflies, but he nodded in agreement.
"Which costume?"
"The ball, of course."
It was his fastest quickchange in the show, and he and Kai had gotten it down to a science of exactly 30 seconds
So less than a minute later, he was opening the door to the stage wing, fairly certain he'd already died and ascended to heaven based on his heart's current lack of function.
His suspicion was confirmed when he came face-to-face with an angel.
Patton was standing there, in the flesh, wearing a beautiful tuxedo that matched Roman's stage suit perfectly. He was smiling so big, his face looked like it was about to split in half.
"Hello, sunshine," Patton said, reaching out a hand. Roman meant to just take it, but couldn't wait a moment more. He grabbed his hand and pulled his boyfriend into his arms for a desperate hug.
"My sun and stars," Roman murmured into Patton's neck. "I miss you so much."
"I miss you too, Roro. Always, every day, and I don't want to miss you anymore."
Roman pulled his head back up, looking into Patton's eyes. They were shining in the stage lights, but had something on the edge of tears.
"Ro, do you remember our first date?"
"How could I forget? You'd seen me in Beauty & the Beast and brought a single red rose with you."
"I also tripped over my own feet when I tried to do the fancy bow."
"But I was the one who fell."
"We both were, silly."
Patton finally revealed the hand that had been hidden behind his back, and then behind Roman's. It was another rose, perfect and red.
"Ro, my dearest love. I hate being apart from you, because I don't get to feel that spark and joy of when we're together. I know it lasts until we reunite, and I know it will last for as long as we want it to. But I want to remind myself that it's always here, no matter where we may be."
Roman's heart caught in his throat as he saw that Patton's eyes were starting to glisten, and he was suddenly reaching into his pocket.
"Pat?"
"Yes honey?"
"Are you-?"
"Shh, let him finish" Kai whispered from the wings
"Roman, I want the whole world to know what you mean to me. Will you wear this?" Patton slipped down to one knee, pulling out the ring box from his pocket. It was a beautiful rose-gold band with a ruby set in the middle.
Roman was dumbstruck, and his mouth started talking without him. "How will this tell the whole world?"
Patton smiled up at him. "Because it's telling you."
Roman blessed his waterproof stage makeup as tears started to leak from his eyes.
"Yes, Patton, yes. Of course, yes. A hundred thousand times yes."
And then Patton was on his feet, and their arms were around each other, and they were kissing, sweet and slow and with happy tears turning their lips salty. And they were laughing through both tears and kisses, laughter of relief and isolation and joy and love.
They finally broke apart, and Patton grinned up at Roman. "Let's get married, honey."
Roman smiled back, kissing his boyfriend's cheek. "Just you try and stop me."

January Forecast for Aquarius
Ease your way into 2019, as gently as you can. The calendar’s turn is always a little weird for you, because the Sun is in Capricorn and your sleepy twelfth house until the third week of January. Going straight from celebration to hibernation is what your system naturally wants to do. But this go-round, that might not be so easy. With two eclipses jolting you into action on January 5 and 21, there are important moves to make…and you don’t want to snooze through those!
On January 5, your twelfth house of closure is activated by a partial solar (new moon) eclipse in Capricorn, which could shut one door firmly so you can open another. What part of your identity or your past no longer serves you, Aquarius? Let it go so you can make way for the new. With structured Saturn traveling close to the Sun for the first week of the year (making an exact meetup on January 2), you may boldly shed an outworn part of your identity or life. Your father or a significant male might factor into events at this eclipse. You may also establish a new relationship with a mentor figure or be trained by a helpful person who’s a seasoned veteran of your industry. Artists and healers could gain unexpected recognition at the solar eclipse, or you might decide to commit yourself to mastering your craft in 2019.
On January 11, the mystical side of this eclipse could reveal itself, when the Sun makes its annual conjunction (meetup) with transformational Pluto in Capricorn. You may feel called to do some deep forgiveness work, especially if you’ve been clinging to resentment or projecting your past pain onto someone you care about. This Sun-Pluto meetup could bring a psychic moment, perhaps through a dream or a session with a healer. If you’ve ever wanted to try a past-life regression or work with a medium, you may get a serendipitous sign from a departed loved one now. Some profound puzzle pieces can come together in the first two weeks of the year, but you’ll have to be receptive to intuitive flashes and “messages” from your subconscious. Journaling, meditation or sound healing could open the channels.
Amid all this right-brained activity, your logical left brain will also have a heyday in January. Your co-ruler Uranus will rocket out of a five-month retrograde on January 6, powering forward in Aries and your third house of communication. Your trailblazing ideas (and possibly your shockingly authentic commentary) will be back on the fast track again. With assertive Mars also in Aries from January 1 to February 14, your feistiness could reach epic levels. Be careful not to get TOO in people’s faces about stuff, Aquarius, even if you’re valiantly defending your creative freedom or beliefs.
Still, it’s important to nail down your messaging now because on March 6, Uranus will depart Aries, not to return again in your lifetime. You’ve got two more months to put yourself out there in a bold and original way. Writing, teaching, social media and communication-based projects get a special boost. With Mars and Uranus in your third house of community, you might suddenly pick up and move to a new neighborhood or take on an unexpected role in a local project. Your inner social-justice warrior could be fired up now, and this is the perfect year to collaborate with like-minded people around a world-bettering cause.
But before you go splashing truth serum on the world or blasting out an opinion you can’t un-Tweet, make sure your thinking is clear. On January 13, the first of this year’s three challenging squares forms between outspoken Jupiter and hazy Neptune, which can lead to confusion and mixed messages. Jupiter is in your eleventh house of groups while Neptune is in your second house of money and security. This could bring anything from a confidence shake-up to disruptive drama in your social circle. Who are your real friends, and who’s just hanging around because they want something from you?
You may start to notice that a certain friendship has become one-sided or codependent, especially with needy Neptune in the mix. Perhaps there’s someone whose ego always needs a boost or who expects you to pick up the pieces (and the tab) when they make a mess out of their lives. Are you relying too heavily on others for validation or to boost your own status? With Jupiter in your technology house, you might need to take a social media break, especially if you’ve gotten overly concerned with counting “likes” at the expense of connection. Jupiter and Neptune will form two more exact squares on June 16 and September 21, but you’ll feel their tension throughout the year.
You’ll be ready to focus on numero uno again starting January 20, when the Sun swings into Aquarius for a month, kicking off your birthday season. Hibernation: interrupted! Those sluggish vibes that started the year will soon be a thing of the past. Unclear about your direction for 2019? The fog lifts, and you’ll radar in on what YOU want to accomplish this year. Any adventures topping your bucket list? Enlist a couple of trustworthy wingpeople and make those into a reality.
Your closest ties come under major scrutiny on January 21, when a Leo full supermoon and total lunar eclipse blaze into your seventh house of committed partnerships. From romance to finance to friendship, this eclipse will shake up the status quo. A budding connection could move swiftly into official status—or end abruptly. Or you could have an epiphany about what you’re willing to accept from a relationship or how to make your bottom line your top priority. If finding love is on your 2019 resolution list, this eclipse will bring a no-BS realization about how you might be blocking that…or what your savviest next steps should be.
This is the grand finale in a two-year series of eclipses that’s lit up the Leo-Aquarius axis since February 2017, transforming your personal identity as well as your approach to commitment. You’ve gotten so much clearer about who you are and what you stand for, since every six months an eclipse would nearly force you to assert yourself or step into the spotlight. Your interpersonal dynamics have naturally shifted, and as a result there could have been a reshuffling on Team Aquarius. You won’t experience eclipses here again until 2026, so use this powerful portal to make sure your relationships are on solid ground.
Once again, you may have to put on some filters before you clear the air, though. Also on January 21, intense Mars in your communication house locks into an embattled square with rigid Saturn in your twelfth house of closure. Even if you need to set a firm boundary or let someone know that you’re upset, watch your tone: This cosmic clash can either make you overly aggressive or the host of an epic pity party. Instead of hurling accusations or playing the blame game, try to begin any statement with “I feel” rather than “You.”
Or just wait a couple days until January 25, when Mars will form a harmonizing trine with authentic Jupiter, helping you serve up the #realtalk with love and generosity. The blissful union of these courageous planets will activate your interpersonal sectors, helping you step into other people’s shoes and listen with much more acceptance. It’s an amazing day to branch out and network, sparking up new dialogues and friendships.
Redirect your attention if you’re angry. Who knows? That person or issue that seemed SO infuriating a few days ago may now become comedic fodder. Your tale of woe could be a story so outrageous it sends you and a rapt audience into side-splitting hysterics when you reenact it. Laughter is truly the best medicine, and you might enjoy a hearty dose of it as the month ends.
Love & Romance
Witty banter and stimulating conversations are your most effective aphrodisiacs this month as lusty Mars blazes through Aries and your mental, expressive third house until February 14. This can have the effect of drawing people to you like moths to a tiki flame. If you’re looking for romance—or just some fun, flirty times—this is one exciting transit!
But if you’re coupled up, or just not feeling it, you may want to lay a little low because you WILL be found! You might be attracted to a brainy geek or wordsmith; “boring” is not going to cut it for you! With aggro Mars heating up your communication corner, watch for a tendency to be a bit argumentative or sarcastic. If you’re in a relationship, don’t take your beloved for granted or make the rookie error of dumping your stuff on them. It will NOT be appreciated!
The first week of January, when fellow lovebird Venus is flitting through Scorpio and your prominent tenth house, you might be stuck on being “right” or hammering home a point at the expense of getting along. Try to catch yourself in action and nip that behavior in the bud before it spins out of control and you foster resentment. On the upside, this is a great transit for talking about shared future plans and maybe launching a sideline business together. Single? You could be drawn to someone older or more established than you.
Then, from January 7 to February 3, Venus will sweep through Sagittarius and your eleventh house of socializing and technology. If you’re not attached at the hip, you’ll prefer to keep your interpersonal interactions on the light-and-breezy side and put off getting into anything too serious. Since this zone rules your digital life, this is a particularly good time for online dating. But focus on the fun and adventure of it, not the “end zone.”
January brings a pair of romantic red-letter days, so watch for them. On January 18, and Venus and Mars align in a harmonious trine that could set the stage for meeting someone through mutual friends or a dating site—which could catch you totally off-guard! On January 22, Venus makes her once-a-year merger with fellow “benefic” Jupiter. You might spark a new connection with a person from another culture, who lives in another time zone or works remotely from various location. But if the chemistry (and other qualities) are there, you won’t mind. Couples could travel together, perhaps with mutual friends. Rally your favorite people and book a ski lodge chalet or a cool Airbnb rental.
