There is no denying that dumplings are a comfort dish that will always please and fill you up. Jiaozi, or filled dumplings, have been a favorite food in China for more than 1,800 years. People from all across the world may now enjoy unique dumpling variations! You can't go wrong here, whether you've always eaten Chinese dumplings or want to try something new. There are several varieties to try while looking for "Chinese dumplings near me."Do you want to learn more? then continue reading. The best 7 Chinese dumplings for biting, slurping, and chewing are listed below.
Tumblr media
POTSTICKERS
Classic Chinese dumplings come in many different varieties, but pan-fried potstickers are one. They often have chicken, mushrooms, pork, shrimp, and ginger throughout and are formed like a crescent moon. These are created by heating a skillet with oil, adding the potstickers, and pan-frying them till golden brown all over. After that, add some water, close the cover, and steam the veggies for a short while. Once the potstickers have completed cooking, take the cover off and pan-fry them for a few minutes to make them crisp (and the water has evaporated). Although they may be eaten alone, most people like them with a dipping sauce such as soy, vinegar, or chile oil. As a result, be sure to test them.
DELIVERING IN WATER
Most likely, you imagine cooking dumplings when you think of them. Similar to potstickers, but cooked in boiling water rather than frying. They contain ingredients including pork, onion, cabbage, and ginger. After they've been cooked, you can eat them on their own, with soy sauce, or with vinegar. They taste better when combined with some noodles and added to the soup.
Ao Long Bao Xiao (SOUP DUMPLINGS)
A xiao long bao is an illustration of a steamed circular dumpling with "soup" within. If you've ever had dim sum, you've probably heard of xiao long bao. Although other components are frequently used, minced pork is the main component! Start eating xiao long bao by placing one on your soup spoon. If you pierce it when transferring the bao from the steamer to your spoon, all of the brothy deliciousness will be lost. You may either suck the broth off the skin of the dumpling or drink it from the soup spoon after taking a little bite out of the top or side of the dumpling.
BAO SHEN JIAN (PAN-FRIED SOUP DUMPLINGS)
They resemble xiao long bao, which is frequently filled with ground pork, although they differ greatly from their steamed relatives. Sheng Jian bao is pan-fried to the perfect crispness rather than steamed. They also have a doughy yeast coating rather than the thinner wrappers found on the bulk of other dumplings. Making sheng Jian bao is similar to making potstickers. You basically use the same methods to correctly cook these dumplings while maintaining a crispy texture.
WONTONS
Wonton is one of the most well-known kinds of Asian dumplings. It's a versatile dumpling that goes well with soup noodles or by itself with some chili crisp! These are frequently wrapped in paper-thin wheat skins and filled with vegetables, meat, or seafood. It is occasionally served with green onions, Napa cabbage, or bok choy strips in a clear broth. Furthermore, fried wontons are increasingly popular in Western cuisine. They were traditionally packed with the same ingredients as cooked ones. To please the westernized palate, Americanized wontons are deep-fried and filled with cream cheese.
GOW POW GOW
If you often eat dim sum, you may be familiar with this dumpling. This transparent shrimp, bamboo, and finely grated ginger-filled dumpling are enveloped in tapioca flour. While soy sauce may be used to consume har gow, some people choose to eat it without it to enjoy the fresh, light flavor of the dumpling and all of the shrimp within.
SHUMAI.
Now, har is usually served with shumai! This dumpling's distinctive quality is that it is essentially an open dumpling. The cylindrical form of the wrapper is commonly packed with ground pork, shrimp, and/or mushrooms, and occasionally a fish egg, shredded carrots, and/or peas. Shumai is often steamed but may alternatively be deep-fried.
At Roll and Bubble, you can now get the best dumpling in the UAE. You may also place orders via Talabat and Careem.

When Zomato’s foodies get invited to a meetup, we could not be more ecstatic. It was the perfect Sunday for Nara’s cozy vibes and sumptuous Japanese fusion. We commenced the brunch with an appetizer of Chutoro Taco, a 4-piece dish of crispy wonton skin tacos filled with diced spicy chutoro, a moderately-fat tuna, and mashed avocado. Moving on to entrees, we were able to choose from four fantastic different selections; Tiger Prawn Sandwich, creamy, tiger prawn sandwiches with umami nori paste and tartar sauce, Hotate XO Noodle, sauteed spicy angel hair pasta miso XO and topped with pan-seared scallop, Unajyu, the famous Japanese butter rice with robata grilled teriyaki unagi served with onsen egg, and the lastly Chicken Katsu Curry, which was served with fried baby potato and shitake mushroom. Each of the foodies received the chance to try each one of them, and the feeling we had after was all about oozing happiness! (Psstt… Zomato’s favorite was Tiger Prawn Sandwich, as the creamy tiger prawns were seasoned so well, and the soft buns made it so wholesome!) We wrapped the dining session with Banoffee, a banana-coffee dessert, complemented with the caramelized banana, dulce de leche with salted egg crumbles, along with the Nutella cream and vanilla ice cream.
Tumblr media
Nara offered us a full Japanese fusion experience, and it was one neither Zomato and our foodies could never forget! Duck Day 2019 Menu and Recipes
Our thanksgiving-day extravaganza is done, and as usual I’m posting a blog entry for posterity and my own reference so I can find these things again if I need them. :-)
We’ve done “Asian fusion” many times–it’s kind of corwin and my culinary wheelhouse–but this is the first time we really incorporated more filipino flavors.
First, the menu:
2019 Duck Day: Tour of the Eastern Rim of the Pacific (Tokyo, Shanghai, Manila, Palu)
“Sinigang” Amuse Tomato Dashi & Sake (Kubota Hekijyu junmai daiginjo) with a dehydrated mushroom chip powdered shoyu powdered tamarind
“Pu-Pu Platter” with Scorpion Bowl Curry puff with curry mayo Lumpia (traditional filipino fried spring rolls) Chicken wings with candied ginger and orange Pickles: honshimeji mushroom, yuzu-pickled napa Assortment of dipping sauces
“Adobo” served with Sapporo Premium duck confit adobo style (with soy, vinegar, garlic and ginger) with a duck-fat crisped potato and adobo-style vinaigrette tossed peas topped with crispy garlic
Zhajiang Mian (fried sauce noodle) homemade chewy wheat noodle with ground duck and bean paste sauce With shochu oolong hi-ball
Duck a l’kalamansi (filipino bitter orange) with Trimbach Reserve Gewurtzraminer Rice two ways Steamed bok choy and a caramel vinegar gastrique
Palate cleanser Yuzu sorbet with finger lime caviar, served with Kikusui Perfect Snow unfiltered sake
Dessert Saikyo miso ice cream With almond brown butter Sablé cookies Puffed rice And hot chocolate
Tea, Coffee, and Mignardise candied ginger almond coconut mango-marmalade thumbprint cookies almond brown-butter-chocolate cookies
Every year there ends up being something we forgot to serve. This year it was the matchstick carrots and cucumber that were supposed to garnish the zhajiang noodle! Ah well.
“Sinigang” Amuse
Tomato Dashi & Sake (Kubota Hekijyu junmai daiginjo) with a dehydrated mushroom chip powdered shoyu powdered tamarind
This dish combines two things. One is the idea of sinigang, which is a filipino tamarind-flavored stew/soup that often has fish, tomato, and onion. The other is the technique of mixing sake with a hot, intense broth to delicious effect. We learned this trick one wet, cold rainy afternoon while out day drinking with a chef friend-of-a-friend in the Akabane area of Tokyo. One of the places he took us was an oden (stewed fishball & tofu) shop where you could buy a one-cup sake. When you drank half your sake, for ten yen you could get them to top up the glass with the oden broth.
corwin made the broth by starting with our home-canned smoked tomato water (already one of the most umami-intense things we have), simmering it with kombu and bonito flakes to make it tomato dashi, and then going over to a friend/s house to borrow his Spinzall (food centrifuge) to clarify it.
For the tamarind flavor we put tamarind powder on the plate for folks to rim their glasses with. We also gave them the soup and the sake separately to mix as they liked. And also some powdered soy sauce we got as a parting gift at one of the fancy restaurants we ate at in Kyoto: Shimogamo Saryo.

Some of the delights of #duckday2019
A post shared by Regis (@rmd1023) on Nov 28, 2019 at 9:49pm PST
“Pu-Pu Platter” with Scorpion Bowl Curry puff with curry mayo Lumpia (traditional filipino fried spring rolls) Chicken wings with candied ginger and orange Pickles: honshimeji mushroom, yuzu-pickled napa Assortment of dipping sauces
Curry Puff corwin made the curry puff (karipap), startingwith making his own curry powder. He didn’t use the karipap recipe in Asian Dumplings but instead used his own biscuit dough recipe and it worked beautifully.
Lumpia It was my first time making lumpia. Lumpia is one of those foods that was at every filipino party we went to when I was growing up, but my family was never the one that made them. (We brought the pancit or the dessert.) It was traditional for the aunties to complain about what a pain they are to make, though. Well, now I know what they mean, but it is SO WORTH IT.
This is by far the weirdest dumpling skin or wrapper I’ve made yet. Andrea Nguyen’s ASIAN DUMPLINGS is my go-to book–she hasn’t steered me wrong, yet. The technique for making these involved picking up the entire blob of wet dough in your hand and them blopping it onto a slightly hot pan, and the smear you leave on the pan IS THE LUMPIA WRAPPER.
What I learned is if the pan is too hot is that it just sears the ball of dough in your hand but it doesn’t stick to the pan. This is bad. And if the pan isn’t hot enough, then it doesn’t work either. So there is a very narrow window where it works. I had to turn the burner on and off between each one and also dribble a little extra water into the dough before each one. What would work is I would make one, and when the pan was the right heat, the wrapper would release, and this would mean it was now the right heat for the next one to be made. I would turn off the heat, make the next one, let it cool for a few seconds in the pan and then have to heat it back up again to release it and be ready for the next one.
Here’s Andrea Nguyen’s short video on how to do it:
youtube
The filling I used was similar to the recipe in Asian Dumplings, but I replaced the carrot and bean with water chestnuts (and the ground meat was duck). If I do it again I’ll probably use pork and up the intensity of the spices/salt/fish sauce. It could use dried shrimp in the sauce.
Chicken Wings with Candied Ginger and Orange This was one of those ideas I had one day while we were out and I made a note in my phone months ago: what if instead of just having a chicken wing that was honey-glazed and chewy you could take that to the next level by having actual bits of candied ginger and candied orange rind in the glaze? I tested it last week and was very pleased with the results.
Although I candied my own ginger for the mignardise in this meal, I used some that I had bought at Cambridge Naturals for this recipe, and the candied orange rinds were some fancy artisanal ones corwin picked up at Formaggio. But I think Trader Joe’s or whatever would work just as well.
The first step is oven-frying the chicken wings as detailed by J. Kenji Lopez-Alt at Serious Eats (as in this recipe: https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2015/01/hot-and-numbing-oven-fried-xian-chicken-wings-recipe.html)
I ran tests last week where I tried both spicing them with a technique as described in the Serious Eats article (toss the crispy wings in oil and then in a spice mix) and also by tossing them in a glaze. Turned out the way we liked them best was tossed in the spices and THEN dipped in the glaze separately. That was a little impractical for a large dinner party so I settled for brushing them with glaze and then sprinkling the chopped bits of candied ginger and orange rind on them. By not coating them completely in glaze, they retain more crispness.
Glaze: 1 cup orange juice 1 cup water quarter to half cup yuzu marmalade or other citrus marmalade quarter to half cup apple cider vinegar 1/8 to quarter cup brown sugar powdered ginger minced garlic
I am a little loose on the quantities in the glaze recipe because I think it really depends on how sweet the orange juice is and how sour the vinegar is — you just have to taste it to see if it’s what you want.

Second course: “pu pu platter with scorpion bowl”. I reinvented the chicken wing for this, with candied ginger and orange rind. Curried duck puffs. And fried lumpia with ground duck and shrimp filling (Filipino spring rolls) which are the fiddliest thing I’ve ever made! But damn they came out great! #duckday2019

“Adobo” served with Sapporo Premium duck confit adobo style (with soy, vinegar, garlic and ginger) with a duck-fat crisped potato and adobo-style vinaigrette tossed peas topped with crispy garlic
Adobo is a filipino dish that has more variations than there are islands. The common element seems to be the combination of soy, vinegar, and garlic. Some have curry powder, some have ginger, etc. Some stew chicken and pork together, some are just chicken. My family’s adobo was usually chicken, potatoes, and green beans, stewed together in soy and vinegar with garlic (and served over white rice).
To deconstruct it, corwin confit’ed duck legs sous vide with soy-vinegar-garlic-ginger in the bags. Then he shredded the meat and crisped it in cast iron, and served it with an adobo-flavored reduction, topped with crispy garlic. I boiled the potatoes in advance, then crushed them slightly to give them crisp edges roasted in duck fat. The beans in the dish I replaced by making a mix of bias-cut fresh snap peas and fresh snow peas tossed in a soy-vinegar-ginger-garlic vinaigrette.

Zhajiang Mian (fried sauce noodle) homemade chewy wheat noodle with ground duck and bean paste sauce With shochu oolong hi-ball
Normally we do a lot of wine pairings, but a lot of wines just don’t pair with these strong and tangy flavors as well as other alcohols do.
For this one we made Chu-hi, which is the Japanese shochu high ball, using dark pearl oolong tea and a whiskey-like shochu called Gokoo that we first had at Momi Nonmi in Cambridge a couple of weeks ago. (It’s seriously great if you’re a whiskey drinker.)
For the wheat noodle we ended up borrowing a pasta extruding machine from our friends David and Diane. What was funny is when corwin ran our test, he made the dough way too dry, so the noodles came out very rough and odd-looking. But they were so tasty and the chewiness was really good, so we decided to just keep going and use them in the meal.

The sauce I sort of improvised on some zhajiang mian recipes but I wanted something somewhat spicier to highlight the duck. (Among the ones I looked at: Woks of Life, China Sichuan Food.)
Sauce: 1 lb. ground meat — let sit in 1 tablespoon corn starch, 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp white pepper, 1 tablespoon oil 15 minutes before starting
6 slices ginger, minced 6 cloves garlic, minced 6-10 fresh shiitake, chopped/minced
1/4 cup sweet bean paste 1/4 to 1/2 cup ground bean paste 1 tablespoon chili bean paste
1/3 cup dark soy sauce 1 cup water
Soften the ginger and garlic in the oil and then brown the meat. Add the mushrooms after a minute or two, and once the meat is no longer pink, add all the wet ingredients and stir together to combine. Let simmer 15 minutes. Then add 1/2 cup water with 1 TBS cornstarch dissolved in it to thicken. If still too thin, simmer 5 more minutes.

This was the dish where I forgot the garnish! I have all these matchstick cut carrots and cucumber and I forgot entirely to put them on the plate! There’s always SOMETHING that gets left off.
Duck a l’kalamansi (filipino bitter orange) with Trimbach Reserve Gewurtzraminer Rice two ways Steamed bok choy and a caramel vinegar gastrique
This is basically duck a l’orange, which we’ve never done in all these years of making duck. Typically this comes out too sweet because people use regular oranges instead of bitter oranges. corwin ordered a bunch of kalamansi (filipino bitter orange) online, though, when he was getting our now-nnual yuzu order. This is also when he picked up the finger limes for the palate cleanser.

Dessert Saikyo miso ice cream With almond brown butter Sablé cookies Puffed rice And hot chocolate
This dessert was inspired directly by Chris Chung at Momi Nonmi, who serves a saikyo miso ice cream regularly and damn, it’s good. Saikyo is a sweet miso, but it’s also salty, and the result is sort of like a butterscotch or salted caramel flavor. corwin made the ice cream and I made the almond brown butter sable cookies, and crisped the rice.
The crispy rice topping was probably the most work. You have to cook it three times: first you just cook the rice. Then spread it in pan and bake it until it’s dry (around 45 minutes at 250 degrees, IIRC), and then you deep fry it in small batches and spread on paper towels to dry. It kept crispy in an air tight container with some silica gel packs for a few days just fine.
The brown butter sables took some experimenting but I settled on was not only incorporating brown butter into the sable dough, but brushing the tops of the cookies before baking. Otherwise the brown butter flavor was too subtle. I made these by rolling a quarter of the dough into a log shape, letting it chill, and then slicing the log into circles.
I then used the other quarter dough to make these almond chocolate mignardise. (And the other half is still in the fridge waiting for me to do something with…)

Tea, Coffee, and Mignardise candied ginger almond coconut mango-marmalade thumbprint cookies almond brown-butter-chocolate cookies
Candied ginger: I used Alton Brown’s recipe. If I do it again I’ll cut the ginger thicker.
Almond coconut mango-marmalade thumbprint cookies (GLUTEN FREE!) — I based these on this recipe by Texan Erin: https://ift.tt/34ySMcx Using the Trader Joe’s Virgin Coconut Oil gives them a really strong coconut flavor and scent.
I made the mango marmalade by taking yuzu marmalade we already had, and a mango that corwin’s mother mailed us from her yard in Florida that we had in the freezer (she sends a whole box and we don’t always get to eating them all before they start to go too soft). The frozen mango flesh doesn’t even need to be pureed — it’s basically mush — so I just cooked it down with the marmalade and a little extra sugar to combine them and thicken up.
These stay soft. They might have been slightly crisp at the edges right from the oven but they soften as they sit. Still delicious.
That’s all I can think of! Now I can close all my recipe tabs!

Easy Meals I Make at Home in Under 30 Minutes
Last week a reader asked if I would put together another post about meals I make at home in under 30 minutes. So I looked back at when I wrote my last one and it was all the way back in July. Crazy how fast time goes by. So today I’m bringing it back with 12 meals I recently made at home that will hopefully give you some inspiration for easy meals for yourself and your family. Remember, this meals aren’t pretty, whatsoever. And some aren’t strict paleo. If you’re new here, I don’t eat strict paleo. I eat white rice and some gluten free items. If you don’t want that in your own diet, don’t eat it. Simple as that. And if you need even more inspiration, you can look back at my previous easy meals posts here, here and here!
Just a recap (I shared this in my previous posts) – with a little planning, multitasking and with the help of some special ingredients, there’s really NO EXCUSE to not eat a healthy meal on the table in no time flat. It’s really freaking easy, I promise you that. Stop making excuses for why you can’t get a healthy meal on the table certain nights. It just means you need to plan ahead. Maybe you even need to write out your meals to make sure nothing goes to waste and you’re sticking with your goals.
You’ll see many repeats in my own diet because I stick with foods that make me feel my best and that cook up quickly. Plus, I use whatever ingredients I have on hand in my freezer. So let’s get to it. Here’s a little breakdown of what I always have at home and/or purchase week to week:
ButcherBox – Every month I get my monthly supply of grass-fed, grass-finished, antibiotic and hormone-free, pasture-raised beef, chicken and pork. This way I always have meat on hand that I can pull out of the freezer the day beforehand to make for meals the next day. And since it’s delivered to my doorstep, I don’t have to think about it, which is the best part. In every box, I always get burgers and breakfast sausage, then whatever other meat is available that month!
Thrive Market – I try to get a Thrive Market box delivered to my doorstep every month or so. I love stocking up on coconut wraps, coconut aminos, Siete Foods sea salt grain free tortilla chips, and organic extra virgin olive oil. Be sure to follow me on instagram and my instagram stories/highlights because every time I get an order, I share those finds and goodies on my social media! Thrive also offer seafood now and it’s delicious so I will sometimes grab that from them.
Whole Foods or Natural Grocers or Trader Joe’s –
Freezer section – I always like to purchase cauliflower rice, sliced bell peppers, asparagus, cauliflower and kale so if I’m in a pinch and have no fresh produce around, I can quickly defrost any of these vegetable and whip up a meal quickly. I also recently picked up Trader Joe’s cauliflower gnocchi and love having that on hand.
Produce section – I almost always purchase arugula, kale, carrots, cherry tomatoes, ripe plantains, yukon gold potatoes, sweet baby peppers, butter lettuce, honey crisp apples, cilantro, green onions and whatever other vegetable looks good.
Pre-cut veggies – At Whole Foods (and many other grocery stores nowadays), they have pre-cut vegetables that have made a huge difference when it comes to how long it takes to make a meal. It costs a little more, but to me it’s worth it because it keeps me eating healthy. I’ll always buy pre-cut butternut squash fries, brussels sprouts, kale, beets (I buy the Love Beets brand), zucchini noodles, beet noodles, and carrot fries.
Butcher section – Since I get all my meat from ButcherBox, I usually only purchase wild-caught fish and seafood at Whole Foods. We try to eat salmon, scallops, sea bass and whatever other fish looks good. And we’ve been eating more fish and seafood recently because my husband is on a strict diet where he can’t have chicken or pork, which is why most of my dinners are beef or fish/seafood. I love getting fish/seafood for the nights that we have limited time since it cooks up so quickly.
Pantry Products – I keep these items on hand because they make prep incredibly easy and quick whenever I’m in a pinch!
Primal Palate Spices
Primal Kitchen Ranch, Ketchup and Mayo
Balanced Bites Spices
Sir Kensington Ranch, Mayo, Ketchup & Mustard
Mike’s Organic Curry Paste
Rao’s Marinara Sauce
Tolerant Foods Gluten Free Pasta
Latest Freezer Favorites –
Birch Benders Paleo Waffles
Brazi Bites
Trader Joe’s Cauliflower Gnocchi
Cauliflower Rice
Bonafide Bone Broth Soup
Now on to the meals we go!
For this breakfast, I preheated to oven to 400 degrees to cook up a Birch Benders Paleo Waffle for 10 minutes. While the oven heated up, I cooked ButcherBox breakfast sausage with diced red bell peppers and oinons, then I added in leftover air fryer potatoes. Then I topped the waffle with peanut butter and maple syrup. This meal took about 20 minutes.
This dinner took about 30 minutes. First I preheated the oven to 400 degrees, tossed zig-zag butternut squash in avocado oil, topped with salt and garlic powder, then roasted them for 25-30 minutes. Then I cooked up ButcherBox burgers in a cast iron skillet topped with Primal Palate Steak Seasonings and topped it off with Primal Kitchen Ketchup and Mustard. And to finish the meal, I made an easy salad of arugula, apples, orange bell pepper, Primal Kitchen Ranch, plus salt and pepper.
This hearty soup dinner took about 30 minutes. First I preheated the oven to 400 degrees, sliced carrots and tossed them in avocado oil and salt, then roasted them for 25-30 minutes. While the carrots cooked, I cooked chopped bacon in a large pot, set it aside, then sauteed red bell peppers and onions in the rendered fat. Then I added ButcherBox ground beef and once it was broken down and cooked through, I added the Bonafide Broccoli Cheddar Bone Broth Soup along with salt, garlic powder and pepper. When the oven has 10 minutes left, I added Brazi Bites to the baking sheet with carrots. To finish the soup, I added the carrots and Brazi Bites!
When I didn’t know what to make one night, I started with air fryer potatoes which take about 25 minutes. While the potatoes cooked, I topped ButcherBox steak with Primal Palate Steak Seasonings and cooked it in a cast iron skillet until medium rare then let it rest for 5 or more minutes. When the potatoes had about 5 minutes left, I made a quick salad of arugula and apple topped with Primal Kitchen Ranch, plus salt and pepper.
This lunch took about 25 minutes. I first boiled rice until light and fluffy, about 20 minutes. While the rice was cooking, I cooked up ButcherBox ground beef with red and yellow bell peppers. Once the ground beef was browned, then I added a packet of Mike’s Organic Yellow Curry Paste with a can of coconut milk then added a bit of salt and lime juice.
For this 30 minute dinner, I preheated an oven to 400 degrees. Then I tossed diced eggplant and carrots in avocado oil and salt and cooked the veggies for 25-30 minutes. While the veggies roasted, I cooked chopped bacon in a large pot, set it aside, then sauteed onions in the rendered fat. Then I added ButcherBox ground beef and once it was broken down and cooked through, I added Bonafide Creamy Mushroom Bone Broth Soup with salt and pepper. Once the veggies were done roasting, I added the veggies. Then I ate it with leftover carrot fritters (recipe coming soon!).
For this 30 minute dinner, I preheated an oven to 400 degrees, tossed halved brussels spouts in avocado oil and salt then cooked the brussels for 30 minutes. While the brussels roasted, I cooked up Trader Joe’s Cauliflower Gnocchi using my air fryer gnocchi recipe. Then I cooked up ButcherBox ground beef with sliced kale then added tomato sauce and salt. Then I ate it all with a little artichoke pesto.
This dinner only took about 25 minutes. I cooked ButcherBox ground beef with bell peppers then added Primal Palate Taco Seasonings, hot sauce, lime juice and salt. Then I cooked up cauliflower rice in a pan with some avocado oil, added salt, garlic powder and chopped cilantro. Then when the cauliflower rice was almost done, I pushed it to the side of the pan, added more fat and added sliced plantains to the pan to cook on both sides for 4-5 minutes.
For yet another soup night dinner, I cooked up bacon in a large pot, set it aside once crispy, then I added a whole sliced onion and cooked down for about 10-15 minutes. Then I added ButcherBox ground beef and cooked until brown. Lastly I added Bonafide French Onion Bone Broth Soup and sliced mushrooms and cooked for about 5 minutes. Lastly, I added the bacon back in with salt and pepper.
This dinner took me 30 minutes. I first made a Moroccan carrot salad (no measurements but the ingredient include grated carrots, red onion, raisins, lemon juice, oil, coriander, cumin, honey, salt and pepper) then set aside for later. Then I cooked up Trader Joe’s Cauliflower Gnocchi using my air fryer gnocchi recipe. And while the gnocchi cooked, I cooked a ButcherBox ribeye in a cast iron skillet with Primal Palate Steak Seasonings until medium rare. And I served it all with artichoke pesto that I found at Natural Grocers.
This 30 minute dinner included leftover carrot fritters that were made the night before. For the rest of the dinner, I steamed frozen cauliflower then I pureed it until smooth in a high speed blender with salt and garlic powder. While the cauliflower was cooking, I cooked ButcherBox ground beef in a pan with garlic, onion and bell peppers with salt and pepper then added Primal Palate Meat & Potatoes Seasonings. Then I made a quick tomato salad with cherry tomatoes, onion, cilantro, lime juice, olive oil, salt and pepper.
Last but not least, one last curry! I first made chicken thighs using my air fryer chicken thighs recipe. While the chicken cooked, I I first boiled rice until light and fluffy, about 20 minutes. While the rice cooked. I added oil and peppers to a pan. Once the peppers were soft, I added Mike’s Organic Green Curry Paste and a can of coconut milk, lime juice and salt, and reduced down for about 10 minutes. Then I just added it all together with some cilantro!

dinner @ Jang
Hello all, back with a long-ish post featuring a modern Korean/Japanese restaurant - JANG!
Tumblr media
It took place of the old Soy & Pepper, which I didn’t have a very good experience with (I’ve been there once & never returned).
Tumblr media
The restaurant opened its doors a few weeks ago, so it’s very new in restaurant age. My friend Susan made reservations for us for 5pm (on Nov. 29th), which is when the restaurant in open for dinner service (5-10pm). Their lunch is from 11am-3pm, so they have a 2 hr break in between.
Tumblr media
The interior looks the same as Soy & Pepper with the exception of the door entrance. I remember entering S&P through a partial flip door thing; now, the entrance is to your right once you enter the main door.
Tumblr media
I also sat here when it was still S&P haha
Their menu~
Tumblr media
You know the restaurant is new when. ..
Tumblr media
Tbh, I’m nervous about modern/fusion food. I like the classic, traditional stuff, but I’m also open to trying new things. I always think “ooooh does it work? Is it gonna be good?”
Tumblr media
Their small plates. Jang has a separate lunch menu, which has some menu items overlapping. Their in-restaurant  menu is the same as their online one (as of right now), therefore, Susan & I already had dishes in ming.
Tumblr media
Here’s the rest of their 1 pager menu.
Tumblr media
I like their little legend of portion guide haha however, I feel like this is very subjective. Susan & I eat quite a lot & we essentially ended up ordering “for 5 ppl” if you go by the guide.
Tumblr media
This was the fungi salad. Smelled delicious, I tell you! The truffle oil aroma was strong & it really stimulated our stomachs. The salad was bigger than we thought for $10, so it was a very good start to the meal. It had a oriental apple vinaigrette so it was slightly tangy, but mostly savoury bcos of the cooked mushroom & cheese. Loved the textures in this; I didn’t feel like there was “too much” going on. The proportions of each ingredient was perfect. My fav part of it was the incorporation of warm/cooked mushroom. For some ppl, this is an entrée salad, but it’s great for sharing in my opinion.
Tumblr media
The jjambong seafood risotto. Jjambong is perhaps my fav Korean noodle dish, so jjjambong in the form of risotto sounded interesting to me. It looked like this! Served on a huge 12inch plate/pan, there was a lot of rice, & a lot of seafood! Squid, shrimp, scallop, clam, & mussels were mixed with rice in a spicy sauce. The flavour was good; very, very similar to the distinctive jjambong taste. The only disappointment was the rice - it wasn’t actually risotto.
Tumblr media
Extra crispy beer-battered ‘KFC’. Let’s go from left to right: starting from the chicken! Crispy coating (& not too thick), + juicy meat. It was so lovely! It was slightly salty, & I wouldn’t have mind the chicken as is without any sauce. That’s also bcos I’m a simple person... haha I love my original fried chicken :) next we had taro fries. I read online & it seems like ppl have mixed opinions about it. Some don’t like it bcos it’s a hardy, starchy fry, while others thought it was diff; still having that fries-feel but pleasantly different. I personally really liked them & they were my fav part of the meal. I do agree with some, saying that it’s not “crispy” like a fry, it has more of a baked texture, rather than fry. I also like the hardiness of it. I hope that in the near future, eateries can consider adding it as a 3rd fries option! The slaw, I was pretty *meh* about it. I’m not into coleslaws to begin with, so I thought it was alright. The 3 sauces include: soy garlic, gochujang dip, & spicy ketchup. My fav was the soy garlic.
Overall, Jang exceeded my expectations.. The meal & service was excellent, & I would definitely come back! 9/10~

Sweet pea and bacon linguine. Sweet peas play well with smoky bacon and tangy lemon. This makes a stupendous side for seared or grilled salmon or crisp-skinned chicken. A classic linguine with clam sauce recipe gets a major upgrade with leafy green spinach and crispy bacon bits.
Tumblr media
Because if for no other reason, I simply love saying "sugar snaps." There's something so, well, spring-like about how that sounds…full of sparkle and possibilities, just like spring! As a child we regularly had Tagliatelle with Bacon, Mushrooms and Peas. I don't usually buy double cream but it had come free with some strawberries What's your quick dish for those I can't cook but I have to nights? You can cook Sweet pea and bacon linguine using 6 ingredients and 4 steps. Here is how you cook that.
Ingredients of Sweet pea and bacon linguine
Prepare 6 slices of bacon.
You need 500 g of dry linguine noodles.
Prepare 1 of medium onion, sliced.
You need 3 cloves of garlic, chopped.
You need 1 cup of frozen sweet peas.
You need 1/2 cup of grated parmesan cheese.
This Bacon, Mushroom and Pea Linguine is easy peasy, hey maybe it should be. Everyone knows pasta is infinitely better with bacon. Drain, then toss the linguine with the olive oil. The bacon gives it a lovely pungent, meaty aroma, especially if you use good slab bacon.
Sweet pea and bacon linguine instructions
In a medium pan, fry the bacon on medium-high heat until crisp. Remove the bacon to a paper-towel lined plate to drain. Also remove all but a few tbsp of bacon grease (don't throw it away, it's a great starter for fried rice)..
While you're waiting for the bacon, drop the linguine into a large pot of boiling salted water..
Add the onions to the pan you used for the bacon and fry for about 5 minutes until browned. Add the garlic and peas and fry another 2 minutes. Turn off the heat and add a ladleful of pasta cooking water to the pan to keep the peas from overcooking..
When the pasta's cooked, drag the noodles into the pan and sprinkle in most of the cheese. Crumble the bacon and add it as well. Toss to coat, then check the seasoning. Add extra salt and black pepper as needed. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese when serving..
I love applewood smoked bacon, and a good quality one really makes this dish. The freshness of the mint brings it all together and brightens up the dish, balancing out the earthy bacon. Bacon and scallops are tossed with linguine pasta, white wine, and garlic in this quick and tasty pasta dinner good enough for guests. Remove skillet from heat and stir parsley into scallop mixture. Top linguine with scallop mixture and garnish with lemon zest.

KOREA
Tumblr media
history :
Whenever we talk about a country, it isn’t long before the conversation turns towards food and eating! Korea is no exception, with a vast array of traditional dishes that are available alongside a new wave of influences to the cuisine as a consequence of development and globalisation.
Korean cuisine is ‘sharing orientated’ so a typical meal can consist of several large communal platters and umpteen numbers of side dishes all served at once! Did you know that historically the number of side dishes you had, reflected your social status? Only the King was allowed to be served twelve of them! Rice (and often soup) are viewed as necessary staples at the table, and sometimes noodles are eaten too.
Of course we must also mention kimchi, which are fermented vegetables that are consistently eaten with meals. There are so many varieties of kimchi, but the most basic type is made with Chinese cabbage and it is actually quite labour intensive to make! Small amounts are picked up with chopsticks and added to rice to act as a nice complement to the main dishes. Kimchi is so versatile that it is even found as a prominent ingredient in stews! You may notice a balance between contrasting temperatures and textures amongst the variety of food served; for example, there may be a subtly flavoured broth, a highly spiced yet comforting stew, hot seafood pancakes and a few cold crunchy pickles and kimchi available in one sitting.
The ingredients in Korean cookery have similarities to China and Japan, which isn’t surprising considering the geographical proximity of the countries, but what makes Korean cuisine different is in the flavouring of dishes and the way the ingredients are used. There is an emphasis on achieving highly seasoned dishes with depth of flavour, by common use of strong ingredients such as garlic, ginger, and chillies in addition to powerful condiments such as salted shrimp and anchovy extracts, and fermented pastes. These seasonings help to elevate humble fresh ingredients to a great tasting experience.
What of modern Korean eating? Korea has a plethora of different restaurants these days, and also amazing street food! Anyone for tteok-bokki or hotteok? Barbecue-style eating is also very popular, and can be viewed as an extension of their traditional sharing way of conducting meals. You can even experience this way of eating indoors! Pieces of marinaded meat, fish or vegetables can be ordered and cooked by diners on a grill in a restaurant. Stacks of lettuce leaves are then provided to wrap up the piping hot ingredients that you’ve just cooked!
Korean cuisine has evolved to modern trends like fried chicken (crispy, spicy and very moreish) and patbingsu (a shaved ice dessert that can be topped with condensed milk, syrups and fruit). Examples of fusion cookery, such as modern Korean which are essentially western dishes with Korean touches, and even Korean Mexican have been exploding onto Korea’s bustling
restaurant scene. In essence, Korea is a real melting pot of traditional and modern eating! If you
are lucky enough to travel to Korea, we are sure that you will find many interesting dishes that you will love tasting!
popular dishes :
For those new to Korean cooking, meals can seem intimidating at first because there are so many components, from the soups and the stews to the banchan (side dishes) that need advance preparation. But there are many easy Korean recipes that are simple to make and are delicious as dinner, so don't think each of your Korean meals needs hours of preparation.
You don't need 10 side dishes to complete your Korean meal like you might in a restaurant and most people don't regularly dine restaurant-style with a table covered in food. With the main dish and a couple of side dishes, you'll still impress any Korean foodie.
 1. KIMCHI BOKUMBAP (kimchi fried rice) Making fried rice is a great way to use leftover kimchi that's a bit past its prime, as well as leftover rice. It's an easy to customize dish. You can include Canadian bacon or thinly sliced beef, pork, ham, even Spam—or use tofu for a vegetarian protein.
 2. SAENG SUN JUN (korean pan-fried fish) Korean pan-fried fish a simple recipe for your main dish that's very traditional. The best option is a fresh fish with delicate white flesh. Enjoy it with a spicy dipping sauce or just soy sauce.
3. TONG DAK (korean BBQ chicken wings) These Korean oven-roasted barbecue chicken wings work well as a drinking snack (anju), appetizer, main dish, or part of a picnic. You won't be able to eat just one.
 4. BOSSAM (korean pork belly) These deeply savory Korean pork belly lettuce wraps walk a fine line between a light meal and an indulgent feast. Serve them family-style so diners can assemble their own wraps according to their tastes.
 5. BULGOGI CHICKEN While it's admittedly not quite as easy as ordering takeout barbecue from the Korean restaurant, this backyard replica bulgogi chicken makes a convincing stand-in without too much effort. Serve it with rice, kimchi, and your favorite Korean condiments
6. KIMCHI JJIGAE (spicy kimchi stew)This popular Korean stew can be whipped up in just 35 minutes. It's another great use for older kimchi as that will lend more rich flavor. There is a lot of room for variation in this dish. You can use beef, pork, or canned tuna, and vegetables including potatoes, zucchini, and mushrooms. It can be a go-to meal to clean out the refrigerator.
7. SOOKJU NAMUL (korean bean sprout salad) This is one of the most popular side dishes in Korea and it takes only 10 minutes to make. You can serve bean sprout salad with bibimbap or alongside the popular Daikon radish and carrot salad.
8. BUGO GOOK (dried Pollack soup) Dried pollack soup is known as a hangover remedy in Korea, or you can use it when you have a cold. You can buy dried pollack at an Asian or Korean market very inexpensively and in 20 minutes you have a pot of soup
9. PA JUN (korean pancake with scallions) When you want a quick and cheap appetizer or side dish, a pa jun is easy and always a big crowd-pleaser. You can serve it with a dipping sauce or soy sauce.
10. SIGUMCHI NAMUL (Korean seasoned spinach) You only need 15 minutes to make this side dish of seasoned spinach. It can also be used as part of other well-known main dishes in Korea such as japchae (stir-fried noodles), kimbap (rice and seaweed rolls), and bibimbap (rice with vegetables)

Jasmine in New World Makati Reopens With All-You-Can-Eat Dimsum Promo
New World Makati Hotel’s renowned Chinese dining destination, Jasmine, has finally reopened with a signature array of all-you-can-eat dim sum dishes for lunch and dinner for only P1,088 (Thursday and Friday) and P1,288 (Saturday and Sunday) nett per person. Guests can feast to their heart’s delight on favorites such as barbecued Honey roasted pork, steamed “Har gao” shrimp dumplings, “Xiao long bao” Shanghainese pork dumplings and much more in a secure location following all the standard health and safety protocols.
I last dined at Jasmine earlier this year, just a few weeks before Manila went into lockdown due to the pandemic (Read: Unlimited Yum Cha at Jasmine in New World Makati). That’s why I was happy to find out that the restaurant has now reopened for dine-in guests with their revamped unlimited dimsum promotion.
My friends and I gathered for an intimate and socially distanced lunch last Saturday at one of Jasmine’s elegant private dining rooms. This is a better option for small groups but you can also sit at the main dining area with its spacious tables and sofas. Temperature checks and health declaration forms are required before entering the hotel, with proper face masks and face shields also a must. You also get two sets of chopsticks on your table, one used as your serving chopsticks and one used for eating.
The Har Gao shrimp dumplings is still my favorite dimsum item so this is what I attacked first. I can honestly consume 4 to 6 baskets of hakao by myself, but I had to let my other friends have some too.
These colorful Vegetable Dumplings were quite interesting too. The delicate combination of carrots, corn, mushrooms, and broccoli were a fresh and lighter option from the usual pork or shrimp dumplings.
Another popular dimsum item is the Steamed Pork Spareribs in black beans sauce. This is always a standard order in any dimsum feast, together with the Siomai and Xiao Long Bao.
For those who like fried and baked items, order the Barbecued Pork Puffs with its flakey layers and savory barbecued pork filling. The Pan Fried Radish Cake is another item I always order at dimsum restaurants.
You also can’t go wrong with the Honey Roasted Pork barbecue which would go well with a cup of their Yeung Chow Fried Rice. A selection of noodle, and congee dishes are likewise available such as Pork and Century Egg Congee, and Braised E-fu Noodles with vegetables.
But what I really like about Jasmine’s All You Can Eat Dimsum is that is also comes with a lot of main courses. Other unlimited dimsum offerings in the city just have one or two main courses with limited servings, but Jasmine has a lot more. Some of the restaurant’s best-selling main courses are included such as the Sweet and Sour Pork and the Wok-fried “Kong Pao” Chicken with cashew nuts.
My favorite dish that afternoon was the Deep-Fried Sole Fillet with Salted Egg. These are very crispy fish fillets that really taste so good especially with the salted egg flavor. We had to order a second round of these because everybody loved it.
Other healthier main courses would be the Braised Bean Curd with Black Mushroom and the Lettuce Bok Choi. The best part is that you can order as many as you want of these main courses together with your dimsum items, without any limitations.
But that’s not all. Aside from the unlimited main courses, guests can opt to add more of Jasmine’s signature dishes to complete the bountiful meal. The Crispy Pork Belly (P240) is one of those savory items that could complete your Cantonese dimsum experience. Other options include Soy chicken (P240), Pan-fried beef tenderloin (P280), and Sliced beef with vegetables in oyster sauce (P280) which are offered at an add-on price.
My good friend, Richie Zamora, a.k.a. The Pickiest Eater in the World, was even inspired to update his famous Coke Zero meme with this fabulous dimsum feast. He still thinks that he will not get fat as long as he drinks Coke Zero.
Then there was a special surprise waiting for me! Everyone suddenly burst into a Happy Birthday song as this turned out to be an advanced birthday party for me as well. I received a special chocolate cake from New World Makati Hotel which I of coursed shared with my hubby.
I would like to thank Francine Arias, Marketing Communications Manager of New World Makati Hotel for always being such a gracious host. Jasmine is now open for lunch and dinner from Thursdays to Sundays (except for Sunday dinner) so you now have more chances to avail of this delicious promotion. I’m actually planning to go back to New World Makati, this time to try their Cafe 1228 new normal buffet setup. See you again soon!

Beef TangSuYuk
Some foods go together like hamburgers and french fries, or sushi and miso soup. Likewise, when we eat jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) in Korea, people normally get tangsuyuk to go with jajangmyeon or jjamppong. Tangsuyuk is deep fried pork with a sweet and sour sauce. If you are into mukbang videos, you probably already saw these two eaten together. Maybe you wanted to try it after watching it. So here we are. Now you can make delicious tangsuyuk at home with my tangsuyuk recipe. So let’s get started.
Yield: 4 Servings
Short Korean Lesson
DahngGeun (당근) = Carrot
YangPah (양파) = Onion
Video Instructions
Main Ingredients
½ Cup Onion
½ Cup Cucumber
½ Cup Carrot
1 Cup Fruit Cocktail
Beef Ingredients
2 Cups Beef (Pork or Chicken)
¼ tsp Salt
¼ tsp Black Pepper
1 Tbsp Cooking Wine (optional)
Batter Ingredients
1 Cup Cornstarch
½ Cup Flour
1 Egg
1 Cup Cold Water
Sauce Ingredients
Directions
Prepare about 1 lb (2 cups) of meat. Usually, we use pork for this dish in Korea. However, I will use beef for mine today. If you are a vegetarian, mushrooms, especially fresh shiitake mushrooms, can be a great replacement.
Cut the meat into thin strips. And then, season the meat with ¼ tsp of salt, ¼ tsp of black pepper, and 1 Tbsp of cooking wine (optional). Set it aside for about 10 minutes to marinate. Meanwhile, let’s prepare the other ingredients.
I will carve the cucumber and carrot a little today for to make the dish prettier. This is how you do it. (Please watch the video for this step.) Then, slice ½ cup worth each of a cucumber and carrot into ¼-inch slices.
We also need 1 cup of canned fruit cocktail, drained, along with the vegetable ingredients.
In this step, start to preheat the oil for deep frying on medium-high.
To make the batter, combine 1 cup of cornstarch, ½ cup of flour, 1 egg, and 1 cup of cold water. Mix everything together well.
The consistency will be like crêpe batter.
After 10 minutes, add the marinated meat into the batter.
Mix it together.
Drop a little bit of batter into the preheated oil and if it floats to the surface immediately, the oil is ready for deep frying. Add the meat into the oil.
Fry the meat until the batter becomes lightly browned. You don’t have to cook it completely in this step since we are going to fry them again later. It took about 2-3 minutes for frying the first batch.
Take out the fried meat using a strainer to drain out some of the oil.
Put the meat on a tray covered with some paper towels. The paper towels soak up some of the grease. Repeat the process to fry the rest of the meat.
In a sauce pan, add 5 Tbsp of cornstarch, ¼ cup of soy sauce, 6 Tbsp of sugar, and ¼ cup of vinegar in a pot. Then, mix the ingredients slowly while adding 2 cups of water. Whisk it well until the cornstarch and sugar dissolves. Cook it on high.
When the sauce starts to boil, add the onion, carrot, and cucumber into the sauce.
You can also add the fruit in this step. Boil the sauce for about 5 minutes.
While making the sauce, deep fry the meat one more time to make it crispier. Fry it for about 2-3 minutes, or until it becomes nice golden brown on medium-high.
It is very crispy and delicious.
Pour the sauce on the top of the fried beef, and serve.

Aeri’s Kitchen Tips
Have you ever had a problem cutting your meat like this? Either your knife is not sharp enough to cut the meat nice and neat or the cutting board keeps moving here and there while you are cutting your meat. Then, try these tips.
No 1. To cut meat easier, put your meat in the freezer for an hour before you cut it.
No 2. Place damp (wet?) towel under your cutting board, so it will not move when you cut the meat on it.
After an hour, the meat is a little firmer, but not too hard, so it holds its shape better when cutting it straight through. Now you can see that I can cut the meat smoothly without trouble on a stable cutting board.
