A/N: ... heyyyyy- its been a bit. I got rapped up in exams and i felt like being productive today so u get a chapterrrr and i wrote another one so u have about two chapters guaranteed ill try to be more consistent lol (also long chapter as compensation)

They went up the steps in silence.

As they entered through the door, Roman grabbed the basket that was abandoned during the argument. He left it on a table near the entrance, he headed towards the corner with shelves, grabbed a brown book, nothing interesting in the cover, just a plain brown book and headed towards the window seat to read.

Virgil was struggling to decide if he should try to speak or not, he absolutely despised small talk but if he didn't talk he didn't want it to get awkward. He looked over to Roman because if he did decide to talk to the prince, what in the hell would he even talk about?! Virgil saw the royal glance up from his book to look at the small table near all the shelves that had a single red book, it was simple like the one he was holding, it just had a title, yet it caused more intrigue than the other.

When Virgil took a good look at Roman he looked somehow defeated, like he had lost- no, given up on a 100 year long fight. The monarch glanced once more at the table with the red book, this time however, he caught a glimpse of the stormy knight, “ You should sit down, the trip back alone takes a few hours, it's gonna be some time before you get to go back.” Virgil looked up at the prince who had resumed his reading, “Uh… yeah” he took a seat near the desk Roman kept glancing at.

Virgil decided to take a glance at the book. It seemed to be a fictional adventure book...seems interesting. Roman looked at the table again and spotted the tall knight carefully opening the book. “It’s an adventure book. Just a fairytale.” Roman’s voice seemed to startle Virgil as he immediately slammed the book shut.

“Y-yeah sorry, I didn't mean to open it without permission, that was so rude of me and-” Roman stopped him mid rant “It's alright, you can read it. One of my personal favorite books.” The prince smiled at him to show he didn't mind “I’m not much of a reader. I just uh… got curious, I guess?” Virgil didn't seem sure of his answer. “Well, I can give you a small summary! If you’d like me to, of course.” Roman backtracked pretty quickly, snide comments about how excited he got over meaningless things forcing themselves into his head. But Virgil’s “Sure, Why not?” Made him a little less apprehensive.

“Ok! So, the story is focused on this boy named Aaron. He is a poor farm boy living with his family in a village that was overthrown by the guards, they became corrupted and betrayed the royal family and took control for themselves.” Virgil just nodded along.

”They treated the least wealthy of the kingdom the worst, they didn't have money to bribe them with so to them they were useless, it got to the point where they were becoming the robbers, they would never steal from people with money because they were cruel people. Aaron and his father wanted to make a change but his mother didn't want them to, she wanted to play it safe and just gather enough money to leave for a better place.”

Roman rambling about the story not realizing how little of a summary it actually was since he definitely wasn't being concise, “I agree with the mom. Her plan sounds safe and effective.” Virgil didn't really mind, at least he wasn't going to be bored while he waited, “Maybe so! But where's the fun in that, dear knight?” Roman didn't really get the knights perspective “May not be fun but at least they'll get outta there without a problem” Virgil thought he was in the right and that the main character would make stupid reckless decisions for the drama and suspense.

“Aha! They went back to the mom’s plan anyway! There was literally no need to try and do all that heroic shit.” Virgil was now fully invested in the story, he probably wouldn't have been if Roman wasn’t such a good storyteller.

“Well yeah... But it was worth it! If they didn't try they would have never known the outcome of that situation.” Roman was happy the knight seemed invested, he was mostly happy because he finally got to discuss the book with someone, and that someone had very different opinions than himself.

There was a knock on the door.

They both looked at each other, It didn't feel like they had been talking for that long. So, who in the hell was at the door?

Virgil stood up, hand fidgeting with the hilt of his sword. Roman stood as well, they both walked towards the door. Virgil opened the door, only to find Ruth on the other end of the door. “Oh, it's the lady from earlier.” Virgil turned to Roman as he let her in.

“Nurse, how did you get back so quickly?” Roman spoke up. “I wouldn't say it was that quick, it's been a few hours. But we found someone along the way so that did speed up the process.” Ruth talked as she noticed the untouched basket and started nearing it.

Roman and Virgil on the other hand looked at each other with confusion. It didn't feel like they had been talking for more than half an hour. “I'm sorry, I must have been talking your ear off.” The royal felt a need to apologize, “Hey, at least you made the wait entertaining.” the knight did not deem it necessary.

Ruth turned and glared at Roman. “So, you haven't eaten?” Roman glanced at the untouched basket and cursed under his breath, he completely forgot. “ Well…” Ruth was not having it “You brat.” She walked behind him and started pushing him towards the table.

“I had an excuse!” Ruth stopped pushing him “And what is it?” Roman turned to meet her eye and said, “I get nauseous when I eat too early.” Ruth looked unimpressed “I'm fully aware Roman. But it's almost noon.” Roman’s brain scrambled for another excuse “I was reading and I lost track of time.” She was still very much unimpressed. “As long as it wasn't the book you always read, fine by me”

As Roman’s nurse made sure Roman ate she noticed Virgil standing a few feet behind them. “I wasn't able to introduce myself earlier. I am Ruth, the brat’s nurse.” She extended her hand with a smile. Virgil shook her hand while he chuckled, which was interrupted by Roman’s overdramatic offended noises. “Nurse! You’re making him think I'll be a nightmare to care for!”

Ruth turned to him “Was I supposed to lie to him and tell him you’re a delight? My apologies, sire” Roman put a hand on his chest and gasped. “Now I understand why Trent called you a witch!” Ruth laughed, “You’re just basically proving my point.” Roman could only grumble and go back to eating.

Ruth took a look around the tower and spotted the red book on a table. “I see you've decided to become a liar huh?” Roman turned to her “Whatever do you mean?” She walked towards the table and picked up the book “Seems like someone was reading the same book they always read, I don't understand why they read it if they've memorized the whole book!” Roman knew Ruth was only joking but he didn't appreciate being called a liar “I wasn't reading it this time it was just out in the open! You can ask him!”

Roman pointed at Virgil, Ruth just looked at Virgil expecting an answer, “He wasn't reading that book, he was reading the one by the window” it wasn't a lie. “You better not be covering for that devil.” Virgil noticed there wasn't any malice behind her voice, her words portrayed something different. “Are you accusing me of being a liar? I thought that was reserved for the prince.” Ruth started laughing “Hey! You’re supposed to be on my side!” Virgil just chuckled.

Roman’s nurse sat next to the window, looking out worriedly. Roman knew his nurse fairly well, “Has Remy not gotten back yet?” Ruth sighed and turned “My son and his tardiness again”.

Roman went over to his nurse, giving her a hug “I’m sure he’s just a little late..” Ruth tried to smile at Roman “I know Roman. I'm just a worried old hag.” Roman rolled his eyes and sat by the window

Ruth looked out the window one last time and took a deep breath. “Well I have to get going so we get there some time before sunrise” Roman stood up to say a proper goodbye to his nurse. “See you in a few days…” Roman really didn’t want to let go but he didn't have much of a choice.

Ruth started packing what she had brought in silence, once she neared the door she spoke “Roman, his and her majesty will have to be informed about this incident..” Roman was obviously not content because this would surely somehow be put partially on him. “Yes, I understand.” Ruth smiled sympathetically and turned to the storm eyed knight only a few feet away.

“Virgil, you’ll have to stay with Roman for a while longer. Commander Arlott sure didn't expect the need to find a replacement for Trent and truly not a day after being stationed here.” Virgil just nodded, he understood the circumstances and was glad to be able to witness such a sight. “The Commander insisted it would take quite some time to take someone off their post, he insisted he wasn't worried.” Ruth opened the door ready to leave, while Virgil was just trying for the pressure to not get to him.

Ruth said her final goodbyes and exited the tower.

Virgil then turned to the Royal, who went back to the same spot he had been before Ruth arrived, and just stared out the window as his nurse left.

As Roman sat near the big window just looking out he started wondering why Virgil had even come here in the first place. He vaguely remembered Trent mentioning him being a messenger but that could just be some Knightly insult he was unaware of. So… he asked “Virgil, if you don't mind me asking...why exactly did you come here?” Virgil looked alarmed for a second as he had just zoned out for about 20 minutes “Commander Arlott, wanted me to deliver a message to Trent” Roman just responded with a simple “Oh” and resumed his staring out the window.

“So… how did the book end?” Virgil felt a little embarrassed to interrupt the silence to ask but he got extremely invested, to the point that if the Prince refused to share the information he might just read it himself. Roman just laughed, he knew how intriguing the book was “Well… In the middle of the mother’s plan being in motion they actually got word of a rebel group that had been inspired by their attempts to take the crown back.” Virgil sat down right across from the Royal nodding for him to go on.

Roman continued speaking but he kept getting distracted by a tapping sound. At first it was nothing, but then it got so prominent he couldn't ignore it anymore. Mid-rant he stopped himself and started looking around to see where the sound could possibly be coming from.

Virgil was confused as to why the heir had stopped speaking but then he started to hear taps. They didn’t sound like just a regular forest sound and they would surely not hear minuscule noises from such a height.

“Dear knight, are you hearing that?” Virgil nodded and stood up to see what could possibly be causing the ticks, Roman stood right along with him and then suddenly pointed towards the balcony doors. “Virgil, it's coming from the balcony.”

Virgil stopped to listen carefully “Yeah, but what's causing it?” They then saw a little pebble hit the glass doors of the balcony and make the tapping they had been hearing.

Roman went to the balcony with no hesitation and opened the doors.

Virgil started having his thoughts race a mile a minute, what if this was to lure the prince out to assassinate him? If the prince died on his watch he would be hung no doubt.

As these thoughts crossed his mind, he moved forward to follow the prince. He then quickly realized the prince was leaning over the balcony having a casual conversation with his possible murderer.

“Remy, what are you doing here? Ruth is going to kill you if you don't get there by sunrise!” Roman screamed down to the man in a black cape with dark tinted glasses covering his eyes. “Well yeah! But I had to make a stop here! I have something for you!” That made Roman start jumping with anticipation as to what Remy could have brought him from his trip

“What is it Rem? Is it something fancy? Is it food? Is it a book?” Though his eyes couldn't be spotted, not only because of his glasses but due to the height, it was very apparent he rolled his eyes. “No! It's a letter.” That got Roman even more excited. Could it actually be him? Roman haven't received anything but it could actually be! Finally some good news!

“Who’s it from?!” Remy looked down at the letter as if inspecting it “I don't know.” That caused Roman’s excitement to dull immensely. He would have surely marked it. There’s still a chance it could be him, right? Roman’s anticipation quickly turned into more of an anxious feeling.

All the signs were there, but you’d gotten so used to living alone in the spacious L.A. residence by yourself – aside from Dodger – that it seemed almost absurd now to think of it as a shared space.

You had been watching something – one of those home invasion slashers – when Dodger had sudden perked his head, ears erect and alert. He had heard something you hadn’t just yet, and suddenly, he was leaping off the couch and headed straight for the front door, whining and howling. That was the first sign.

The second sign came after you had paused the film to better hear what was transpiring in the foyer. Dodger was pawing frantically at the base of the door, crying out. Suddenly, at the click of a switch, light flooded the foyer, briefly blinding you.

“Remind me to text next time, then,” Chris chuckled.

And as if the confirmation of your safety spurred it, you fell into his arms, clinging to him in a bone crushing bear hug. You deeply inhaled his scent – a scent that still sometimes lingered in the house but had overall faded into just a ghostly reminder. “You have no idea how happy I am it’s you and not Hannibal Lecter.”

Your voice was muffled in the fabric of his t-shirt clad chest as he patted you on the back reassuringly. “I think I have some idea…”

FusionFall Headcanons: Grim

More likely, he’ll pull up a lawn chair with some popcorn and enjoy the show.

The Grim Reaper doesn’t often get much of a vacation just because it’s not like people stop dying or there’s a real substitute for him. He can only flex his schedule around so much. So, if it seems like his vacation is going on for forever, it’s because he kinda keeps...extending it. For one, use of the Resurrect ‘Ems has really shortened his quota and, since Billy and Mandy are both doing their own things in the war effort and calling him for whatever they want less often, he’s taking full-advantage of the time away from them--especially since he feels like he’s never completely allowed to enjoy the time off as it is. However, it doesn’t stop Billy from phoning him regularly whether it’s over the most random, benign thing he pulled out of his head or just to check in.

Part of Grim’s in-game dialogue is a simple greeting, welcoming new players to Orchid Bay. While this isn’t much, it can hint to two things: First, that Grim does try to maintain at least some civility despite how other treat him and his own mean streak, and second, that he might actually play an active role in the area--possibly with some authority. (I make the latter point because a greeting like that isn’t common for someone to make if they’re just a vacationer: You would only really welcome someone to a place if you yourself held some footing/felt at home enough there. This seems to be a situation more along the lines of how you would welcome a new employee to your team or, in this case, fellow Fusion Fighter.) While Grim of course is head over the Resurrect ‘Ems, I think his influence in Orchid Bay in-particular may have something to do with the area’s population of supernatural beings--who would heed Grim’s instructions as a famous figurehead and someone with as important a role to the war effort as he does.

While Grim’s uncertain of any nano with a revive ability--as he views it as a way of cheating death potentially beyond what was agreed when he made the Resurrect ‘Ems--he’s particularly wary of the nanos modeled after himself. He’s bound to have noticed that their IE Donors have a much stronger affection toward the little doppelgangers than they’d ever show him, but he’s more concerned about the consequences those bonds might to lead to if they win the war and life--and its cycle--returns to normal. There’s a strong possibility the nanos would interfere with his job to protect their companions, and their similar abilities to himself could be a challenge. He’s wary of other demonic-based nanos for similar reasons.

Totally taking this tiny window of no updates to reflect on how sweet Elu’s river stroll (and great escape) was in 3x03. That and Eliott coming out to Lucas! This legend keeps coming for us...

CODE RED: EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF

New scenes in Skam France really give me life because they are often so understated but potent. The night guard scene was definitely one of them.

It was so awesome that even though there was danger of getting caught and getting into huge trouble when the night guard showed up, Eliott’s first instincts were to both put his arm around Lucille’s shoulder and to linger and search for Lucas. I thought both of those instincts demonstrated the quality of person Eliott is. We’ll forget that he, er, ditched his girlfriend shortly afterwards. Ehem.

We also see that Eliott was the first to make it out of the grounds, but instead of fleeing into the dead of night with everyone else, he waits for Lucas even though he doesn’t know where he is. That act spoke volumes too, didn’t it? Sure there would have been some ulterior motives there (he didn’t come all this way to not spend time with Lucas), but there would have also been some concern there too. I really liked how this new scene brought all of that out.

It was also so awesome that when Lucas stopped in the middle of the path and was clearly freaking out as he tried to find someone (Eliott? His friends?), the hero who saw the patrolman’s light about to hit Lucas, who ran over and dragged him to safety, was Eliott. I mean, it wasn’t as dramatic as Eliott darting out in front of a moving truck to pull Lucas to safety, but it somehow felt as exciting in the moment? ;)

Can you believe though, that it didn’t end there? That Eliott softly asked/told Lucas that he was going to go walk him home? Thank you Skam France for making that a thing! I didn’t know I needed it in my life but now that it is here, I want to metaphorically hang it up next to the piano scene. It is just so cute! And at the same time, so much more than that!

I mean, on its own, it is such a sweet thing for Eliott to want to do. But since we are privy to Lucas’ life, that innocent act also feels so incredibly touching because Lucas has been feeling so isolated and neglected/uncared for lately. His home life has been absolute shit -- his Dad is so caught up in his own life that he is failing to give his teenage son even the basic needs: shelter and food (ie. not transferring him money for his own survival while his mother is in a clinic). But here is this sweet boy who buys him snacks, lends him beer, and is now wishing to walk him home because he cares about him and wants to spend time with him.

I am just such a sucker for the idea of someone looking out for you; for little old you being a priority in someone else’s world… Lucas seems to have that with Eliott. Ugly sobbing, guys.

I need to also be real though. The only problem with this scene is that, er, Eliott totally, absolutely, 100% ditched his girlfriend! How does someone, whose first instinct is always to wrap an arm around their girlfriend’s shoulder in affection and protection, manage to lose her so easily like ten seconds later? And instead of finding her or joining her, only goes to look for his new crush and walk him home. Oh, the painful reality of love triangles...

WALKING LUCAS HOME/COMING OUT

Their whole quiet stroll together to Lucas’ apartment was so calming and intimate in its sincerity. It was a real chance to breathe after their hectic lust battle in the common room. It was reminiscent of their evening at Eliott’s place, where they could just relax and be themselves.

There were several things I enjoyed about this stage of their night:

1) Lucas confiding to Eliott about Chloé. While yes, it is absolutely Lucas’ own doing that he is so stressed by the intense attachment he cultivated in Chloé, I liked that he was able to admit the stress of that to someone who would understand the falsity of that relationship and why he did it. His friends completely ignored his original discomfort and instead shamed him for not wanting to be with her. But now Lucas has someone he can confide this stuff to who actually listens to him. (Plus it lets Eliott know Lucas is basically still available, so strategic tick to Lucas there.)

2) In a similar vein, Eliott confiding to Lucas about his problems with Lucille. While yes, it is nice to see Eliott finally tell Lucas about Lucille and lay his cards out, I liked that Eliott seemed to be confiding in Lucas in turn, as if he was still processing some resignation about his failing relationship but hadn’t quite had someone to talk it through with.

Plus, Eliott’s solemn face when he was reflecting on his relationship seemed to be a glimpse into how conflicted he feels right now: that although he is very keen to let Lucas know he wants to date him when/if he breaks it off with Lucille, he is still a little sad that his current relationship hasn’t ended up being what he needed (cough Polaris). I really like that his face told the story as much as his words did.

3) Eliott coming out to Lucas!! In the now immortal words: “Not necessarily a girl.”

Even though Lucas had secretly seen Polaris and thus seen how open-minded Eliott is about different types of relationships, it was never a guarantee that Eliott identified as LGBTIQ. Eliott has finally made that explicit to Lucas and thank god he did because Lucas really needed to hear it from him. Good on you, Eliott! Your boldness has been legendary tonight.

Can I just say though, how hilariously pleased with himself did Eliott look when he was about to drop the bomb and was anticipating his own delivery? He couldn’t wait to see Lucas’ reaction and I am here for that cheek.

4) Lucas knows he is being taken seriously. If we look back to Lucas’ conversation with Alexia about bisexuality, Lucas’ ignorance seemed to betray his perception/fear of what it might mean for Eliott to be bi/pan: that he can have fun flings with guys but would only ever seriously date a girl because that is easier with the status quo.

That night by the river though, Eliott didn’t just make his sexuality clear: he let Lucas know that he takes their connection very seriously. When he stared Lucas down after saying he wouldn’t necessarily want to date a girl when/if he breaks up with Lucille, he basically blew up Lucas’ presumption of how he would rate in the hierarchy of Eliott’s bi/pan relationships as a boy. Lucille, after all, was a long term relationship, and that is what Eliott implied he still wants. With Lucas.

So yes, Lucas, when/if Eliott breaks it off with Lucille, you will be the one he dates as an equal and not as a piece of fun on the side. (Harmful stigma, be gone!)

5) Their almost first kiss! Oh that incredible lonnnnng stare that was the beginning of a kiss! (Let’s be real, they were already kissing with their eyes.)

Firstly, could Lucas have been any more endearing the way he so quickly went from cocky to nervous and yearning.

I mean, that intense dance of Lucas’ pupils as he tried to focus on Eliott’s face so close to his… Lucas didn’t look like he was able to initiate a kiss but he did look like he was hoping for one.

And then we have Eliott, whose head lowered ever so slightly. Just a degree. And whose quality of gaze changed, ever so slightly. Just a degree. ;)

Eliott sort of got a bit stuck there, on the cusp of something, but the anticipation was alive between them. It looked like Eliott might have gotten there in the end if he’d had a little longer to sort his head out before they were interrupted…

I mean the way he looked at Lucas’ apartment block and then straight into his eyes was thick with innuendo. Whether it was going to be through his own actions or Lucas’, a kiss had definitely been on the cards that night.

Their feelings were there, the intensity was there, the challenge was there, but it just wasn’t quite the right time for them. Their looks unlocked a promise though. It will happen.

This week?! Are we really ready for it?

so yesterday i saw what i believe is a huge misinterpretation of ‘monster’ and specifically the reason elsa surrenders at the end, and i’m still annoyed about it, so to be 100% clear about my take on this: ‘monster’ is not about elsa surrendering because she thinks she’s a monster or because she’s intimidated by hans. ‘monster’ is not about elsa being a passive observer of her own story. ‘monster’ is not about an angry mob storming in to burn the helpless, frightened witch.

‘monster’ is about elsa grappling with the very real consequences of her decision to run away from her coronation and turn her back on arendelle when it needed her most, which has resulted in a situation where lives are in danger and foreign usurpers have taken command over the crisis.

‘monster’ is about elsa coming to terms with the damage her father’s instructions and her rigid adherence to them has done.

‘monster’ is about elsa weighing her desire to disappear into the wilderness where she feels safe against her sense of duty to her country, her people, & her sister, and deciding to walk the difficult, uncertain path of a queen instead of hiding herself away again or giving up and killing herself.

‘monster’ is about elsa triumphing over her worst inclinations.

from the moment she hurts anna as a child until the moment hans shows up at her ice palace with the mob, all of elsa’s actions are guided by anxiety, depression, and guilt. ‘monster’ is the turning point, the moment when elsa finally takes a clear look at herself & her past and consciously chooses to break free of those psychological chains and live.

and in order to do that, elsa has to surrender.

see, in the show, the way ‘monster’ is staged, elsa is alone on stage for the first half of the song. she can hear the mob approaching outside, and they are important only insofar as their arrival will force her to make a choice: she can’t continue to pace and fret and do nothing as she has since sending anna and kristoff away from the ice palace.

beyond that, elsa is not scared of or even particularly interested in the mob. her focus, instead, is on herself, her magic, and what she can do to put an end to the crisis she created when she lost control:

It’s finally come, come to knock down my door. I can’t hide this time like I hid before. The storm is awake. The danger is real. My time’s running out, don’t feel, don’t feel.

the method she has always used for controlling her magic no longer works, but that doesn’t stop her from instinctively falling into it even though she knows it’s not going to work. (& one thing the musical does, which i like very much, is directly echo pieces of ‘monster’ during ‘colder by the minute’ to emphasize that these harmful thought patterns are still very much there in elsa’s mind even after she chooses to reject them, eg. “conceal, don’t feel, don’t feel, get back into the cage!” while also using the word monster in a different way so that it is less self-referential and more like elsa is treating her magic like an adversary she now needs to beat.)

Fear will be your enemy, and death its consequence. That’s what they once said to me, and it’s starting to make sense. All this pain, all this fear, began because of me.

the assumption of both elsa and her parents throughout her life was that the prophecy pabbi delivered to her after saving anna’s life meant that other people’s fear of elsa and her magic would be the cause of elsa’s death. however, elsa is now beginning to interpret the warning differently: it is her own fear that is putting other people’s lives in danger, because she suppressed her magic out of fear, and then after losing control ran away out of fear, and that directly resulted in the devastating summer blizzard they’re trapped in now.

Is the thing they see the thing I have to be? A monster, were they right? Has the dark in me finally come to light? Am I a monster, full of rage? Nowhere to go but on a rampage? Or am I just a monster in a cage?

now... in the interpretation that i disagree with, the one that prompted this post, the writer of that took issue with the line “am i a monster, full of rage?” on the grounds that elsa is not an angry character and — yes. to an extent that’s true. but i think it’s very important to remember that the feeling that actually causes the blizzard, the actual trigger that makes elsa lose control over her powers at the coronation, isn’t fear. it’s anger. she loses her temper with anna and yells at her and it is that burst of, yes, rage that shatters her grip on her magic.

the whole storm is borne out of anger and only exacerbated by fear. elsa recognizes this. and this verse is her — somewhat poetic — way of interrogating those feelings. the blizzard began because she lost her temper for just one second; what if the reason she can’t get it back under control is it’s being fueled by all the pent-up frustration and anger she feels about her situation (forced into isolation and loneliness by dangerous magic she can’t control, with no end in sight)? and what if the reason she can’t stop the blizzard is simply because she’s just too weak & ruled by her emotions?

( i also think it’s an intentional parallel to ‘dangerous to dream’, in which elsa laments “i can’t be what you expect of me/and i’m not what i seem” and “i can’t show you i’m not as cold as i seem” — she longs to open up and be herself with both her subjects and especially her sister, whereas in ‘monster’ she confronts her fear that she is exactly who she now appears to be.)

at this point in the song, the mob interjects again, and elsa is visibly startled by their cries. which, if you ask me, is a very strong point of evidence in favor of ‘monster’ really not being about the mob; elsa is so deeply absorbed in her introspection that she loses track of the people storming into her home to kill her. anyway — the reminder of their imminent arrival pushes elsa out of this mournful speculation and into urgently evaluating her options.

What do I do? No time for crying now. I started a storm, gotta stop it somehow. Do I keep on running? How far do I have to go? And would that take the storm away or only make it grow? I’m making my world colder— how long can it survive? Is everyone in danger as long as I’m alive?

knowing that the “conceal, don’t feel” method has been unsuccessful so far, she considers running even further away and hoping that the storm will follow her away from arendelle. but since that didn’t work last time, she also begins to consider that perhaps only her death will guarantee the safety of her people.

( i have seen a surprising amount of backlash against the suicide ideation threaded throughout ‘monster’ and i really do not understand where it comes from. no one argues that elsa isn’t depressed — because she is, and it’s perhaps even more overt in the musical than in the film. she never worked through the trauma of nearly killing her little sister when she was ten, she’s spent the last eleven years living in near-total isolation and silence, her country is locked in the grip of a magical winter she caused and has no clue how to stop, and just hours ago she nearly killed her sister again. in purely emotional terms, it would be a miracle if the thought of suicide didn’t cross her mind in this dark moment — and on top of that, she has an actual genuine reason to believe the world would be a better place without her in it, because her death might end the blizzard, & that kind of logic has incredible power on a mind that is already entrenched in habits of guilt and self-sacrifice. )

( i think it’s also worth noting that this is the second time in the show elsa asks herself “what do i do?” — the first is in ‘dangerous to dream,’ after she manages to get herself coronated without freezing her scepter:

Father, I did it! Now what do I do? I can’t stop smiling, how strange— does this mean that things are different? Could they really change? And could I open up that door, and finally see you face to face? ...I guess a queen can change the rules, but not the reason they’re in place.

and once again, its use here feels like an intentional inverse of its use in ‘dangerous to dream,’ where instead of being so giddy with success and optimism that for a second she considers relaxing the strict rules she holds herself, now elsa is in a situation where the rules are crumbling all around her, she’s beginning to see that they never protected anyone in the first place, and she has no fucking clue what to do without them. )

anyway, this part of the song is when the mob breaks into her ice palace and finally enters the scene proper. and the physical staging of this moment is really important, because it’s what really drives home the balance of power here and what elsa is doing in this scene. because what’s the first thing does elsa when a mob of scared, angry, armed men break into her sanctuary?

she turns her back on them.

like — they don’t even get to ENTER properly because she controls the space, and elsa barely even spares them a glance. and just as elsa denies them entry into her palace, she refuses to be distracted from her internal quandary.

Was I a monster from the start? How did I end up with this frozen heart? Bringing destruction to the stage, caught in a war that I never meant to wage.

if anything, the arrival of the mob becomes, to her, a kind of symbol of how badly she has failed them. like — just imagine how desperate you’d have to be to storm the castle of somebody with powers like elsa’s in the middle of a blizzard so deadly cold that you know you will die if you stay in it.

this verse is, i think, really elsa empathizing deeply with the mob and recognizing herself through their eyes — she waged war on her own people. it was an accident, yes, but that doesn’t end the devastation nor undo the destruction she has already caused. she’s not afraid of them, because they are completely at her mercy. and she’s not angry at them, because she understands the fear and pain fueling their anger.

& most importantly, she still sees these people as her subjects, and that makes their safety her responsibility in her mind. which is what brings her to:

Do I kill the monster?

ultimately it is the sight of the ordinary people she has failed — not anna, who has a personal history with her and thus trusts and loves her in a way no one else can, but regular subjects who are scared and hurting and confused and are literally just innocent bystanders in a disaster that grew out of a simple spat with her sister — that pushes elsa into actively contemplating suicide.

Father, you know what’s best for me. If I die, will they be free? Mother, what if after I’m gone the cold gets colder, and the storm rages on? ...No! I have to stay alive to fix what I’ve done, save the world from myself and bring back the sun.

this is the most important verse all of ‘monster’ and, i would argue, the entire show in terms of elsa’s character development. why? because it is a direct echo of the conversation young elsa has with her parents after almost she almost kills anna — even the melody is the same:

AGNARR: We must keep her powers hidden from everyone, including Anna.

IÐUNN: What?! No, they’re sisters, we can’t ask expect them to stay away from each other—

ELSA: Mother, it’s how it has to be. What’s best for her is best for me. Father, I’ll do what you say—

AGNARR: We’ll help you to control it. I know we’ll find a way.

IÐUNN: Only until we get more answers, and then

ALL: We’ll find our way back to be a family again...

as a child, elsa took her father’s advice and hid herself away, shut down all her emotions and metaphorically ends her life in order to keep her powers hidden (“i can’t laugh, i can’t cry, i can’t dream, i can’t live without it bursting out!”). in contrast, her mother rejects the idea that she must live in fear, objecting to keeping her isolated from anna and later trying to comfort her when she’s upset instead of scolding her to keep it hidden.

& here, as a woman facing down all the myriad ways that her father’s teachings have failed her and her country, elsa consciously chooses to follow her mother’s advice instead—embracing life, and trying to control her magic without sacrificing her life in both the literal and figurative sense. she chooses to seek out the answers her mother wanted, the better alternative that her parents went in search of when they left arendelle on the voyage that killed them.

If I’m a monster, then it’s true there’s only one thing left for me to do, but before I fade to white, I’ll do all that I can to make things right.

so this is her conclusion: if it’s true that she really cannot end the storm any other way — if she really can’t bring herself into balance, if she really can’t find a way to rule her emotions instead of being ruled by them — then, yes, she will kill herself as last-ditch effort to save her people. ultimately, she values their wellbeing above her own life.

but. she is not there yet. it’s kind of funny because, despite the fact that elsa is literally planning to kill herself if she can’t stop the storm any other way, this verse is, in contrast to the despairing tone of everything leading up to this verse, actually filled with hope and determination. this is elsa rejecting the idea that she’s a monster, rejecting the idea that the only way to keep people safe from her is to lock herself away and suppress all her feelings, rejecting the fear her father’s ideas represent. this is elsa saying “if my father was right about me, then i’ll die, but i don’t think he was right anymore.”

& having articulated this conclusion to herself, she finishes up the song by taking the first step in acting upon it. how?

by taking control of her magic and setting her people free.

I cannot be a monster. I will not be a monster— not tonight!

the other big point of contention in posts i read yesterday that prompted this post is the idea that elsa surrendering to hans at this point makes her — weak? passive? a helpless object in her own story? but the thing is —

elsa still holds all the power here. after she lowers the ice, the mob readies their weapons and advances on her...

...but all she has to do to make them back off is tilt her hands at them.

a mere glance over her shoulder and they recoil. they don’t dare actually attack, and elsa holds them back like this for several seconds with nothing but the power of their own fear — and then she surrenders by saying, “I surrender, take me to Princess Anna.”

because the thing is. she doesn’t surrender because she thinks she deserves it. she doesn’t surrender out of guilt or because she believes she’s a monster. she surrenders, i think, for two reasons:

first, these are her people and it is currently so cold that they will freeze to death if they stay in the mountains. she needs to get them to safety. surrendering and allowing them to escort her down the mountain, back to the comparative safety of arendelle (where there’s fire, food, blankets, and plenty of shelter), is the best way to accomplish that.

and second, anna came after her with nothing but trust and love and unshakable belief that elsa could get the storm back under control. elsa drove her away out of fear, but now that she has consciously chosen to fight against her fears and try her best to end the storm, she wants to accept the help anna offered her — and given that catalyst for all of this was, as i said, elsa losing her temper with anna during an argument, it’s also not unreasonable for her to think that maybe resolving that argument with anna will help end the blizzard too.

in any case, she now has a pressing need to get to anna as soon as possible, and every reason to think anna is already back in arendelle, and surrendering is, again, the best way she can think of to accomplish this.

& also, i’ve pointed this out before, but elsa is still positioned as the one in charge after she surrenders. we see hans gesture for two guards to go up and put elsa in shackles, but when they actually go to do so, they wait for her consent before even attempting to actually put them on her.

they don’t try to force the shackles onto her hands — they don’t even touch her. while hans and the duke of weselton (both foreigners with no legitimate authority in arendelle!) posture and bicker with each other about who is in charge, these guards—actual citizens of arendelle—WAIT for elsa to to grant them permission to put her in chains. she slowly holds up her hands, then nods, and only then do they actually move to restrain her.

she is in charge. she is the one holding the cards throughout this scene.

& throughout the rest of the act? elsa is willing to play along with hans’s authority only for as long as his decisions do not interfere with hers. she wants to see anna, he wants to bring her to arendelle — that works for her. he says anna isn’t back yet and she’s to be imprisoned until anna returns — that’s fine, she’d be waiting in arendelle for anna anyway. but the second he gives an order that doesn’t align with her own goals, she breaks the shackles and leaves.

( caissie also rolled her eyes at him after “i charge queen elsa with treason” when i saw the show again in july. it was delightful. )

ANYWAY. this got a hell of a lot longer than i intended because i have so many goddamn feelings about how important ‘monster’ is and how necessary it is for the development of elsa’s character to have her fight this vicious internal battle between her greatest strength (compassion) and her greatest weakness (“conceal don’t feel” & the ethos of self-sacrifice) and emerge triumphant after a lifetime of clinging to her father’s misguided lessons but —

TL;DR ‘monster’ is elsa battling depression, anxiety, guilt, and self-loathing so she can whole-heartedly accept the responsibilities of rule, choose life, and finally turn away from “conceal, don’t feel;” her subsequent surrender is equal parts deep compassion for the mob and a calculated decision that allows her to accomplish all her goals in the safest and most efficient way possible based upon what she currently knows of the situation. also pacifism does not make a character helpless or weak and at no point does elsa lose or relinquish control over the mob situation thank you for coming to my TED talk.

National breakdown: A glimpse of the vicious chaos of no-deal

So it's out. It's not theory anymore. It's practice. The full scale of Britain's capitulation is in black and white. In a no-deal scenario we would open ourselves out in Ireland and desperately try to maintain control on the mainland. We'd be contorted into a grotesque mess. And then we would, with our tail between our legs, return to Europe, beg for talks and give them whatever they want. No-deal is the absence of control.

This was always the view in Brussels. They figured no-deal, if it happened, would last for a few weeks, maybe even days, before the British returned to the negotiating table and agreed to whatever its demands were. Such would be the effect of the humiliation and chaos. And yet no-dealers still insist, even this morning, that theirs is the only true rapture, the only spiritually pure version of their deluded monocultural dreams. They are not expressing a political view in the traditional sense. It is just the spittle rising from their broken aspirations.

The reality has now been published. Early this morning, timed to minimise the market reaction, the government published its proposed tariff rates and its plans for the borderin Ireland. That plan was essentially to throw their hands up and pray for the best. The border between Northern Ireland and the Republic would be kept open. There would be almost no checks.

Imagine the practical implications. Farmers in Northern Ireland would be thrown under the bus. Normally priced food imports would still come flowing in, but they would be priced out of of their export markets in the Republic and the European mainland.

Smuggling would suddenly explode on the Irish border. Anyone with dodgy goods anywhere in Europe would channel it through that area. Criminal gangs would flood in with them.

And even here, in this extreme scenario, checks would soon be needed. Agricultural goods from outside the EU would need to enter through designated border inspection posts. But how would anyone know which goods came from where unless there was some kind of infrastructure to assess it? The reality is this system will either create infrastructure, and therefore establish the skeleton of a hard border, or it will not, in which case it provide no control of the goods flowing into UK territory. The old Brexit arguments about control and trade would suddenly go from abstraction to practice.

If it's the first scenario, the situation can spiral into dangerous outcomes. How long will it be, with no full checking system in place, before something terrible happens? Before illegal weapons come in, or the flow of smuggled goods reaches critical levels, or contaminated meat finds its way into the food chain? And then what will the state do? It will do what it always does: overreact. It will flood the area with new checks, systems and border officers. And then suddenly the exact circumstances we've been trying to avoid - of large-scale border infrastructure in a highly volatile economic and political scenario - will take place.

We're already seeing low-level Ireland-connected terror incidents. A group calling itself the IRA claimed responsibility for a series of improvised explosive devices sent to locations in London and Glasgow last week. In Londonderry last January, a bomb was detonated outside the city's courthouse and a series of mock attacks were carried out on transit vans by masked men. In that environment it is criminally irresponsible to allow this scenario to take place.

But the second scenario, of no checks at all, threatens to turn us into an international pariah. We are opening up a border onto our territory with nothing in place to see what is coming in and out. What effects will that have on the safety of the public, on the viability of our trading regime, and on our international reputation? Will other countries even be prepared to import from us, given we are not able to guarantee the safety or legal status of the goods flowing into the country?

The government also revealed its proposed tariff rates under no-deal this morning. There would be cuts for most goods - where tariffs are anyway largely non-existent - but they'd be maintained for many agricultural goods, where domestic producers would be instantly put out of business by a sudden influx of cheap foreign goods. So sheep meat stays at 100% of the EU's current MFN rate, poultry at 60%, beef at 53% and butter at 32%.

The thinking is sensible enough. They're trying to protect British farmers and industry where possible and elsewhere help consumers who will be hit by price rises as a result of no-deal, not least due to a precipitous decline in sterling.

But what it really entails is an complete overnight overhaul of our entire trading system. No serious nation does business like this. It would be like being hit by an asteroid. There'd have been no consultation with industry, with producers, with parliament, or with the public. Just men in a room somewhere, scribbling down numbers, and then inflicting them on the country with no real idea of what is going to happen.

And how would it work anyway? If the tariff was 60% of the EU's MFN rate at other ports, but zero per cent on the Irish border, why would goods not be directed through the location where no tariff rate applies? The incentive is obvious. How long would that go on for before we need checks on the Irish Sea? How long before we have to start carving up the internal arrangements of our own customs territory in a desperate bid to keep hold of the situation?

And none of these scenarios even address the main bottleneck at Dover-Calais. They are subplots to the main horror story. And yet they are in their own right absolutely catastrophic.

This is the scenario in which we would go back to the EU, humiliated, to restart talks. And the first thing they would ask for are the pre-conditions of the existing deal: The financial payments, the citizens rights provisions, and the backstop.

But, in a pitiful spectacle, the no-deal zealots have still not understood the reality of their position. Yesterday, like some late-80s covers band, Steve Baker, Nicky Morgan, Damian Green and Simon Hart posed on a staircase and took a photo of themselves as they tabled their laughably inane 'Malthouse B' amendment. The more pitiful the ideas, the more feverish the use of names becomes. We have Star Chambers, and Malthouse Compromises, and GATT 24s, and SuperCanandas, and Max-Facs. But what we do not have is a single grain of realism or intelligence from those uttering them.

The latest wheeze proposed that the government offer a mutual standstill arrangement with the EU in exchange for the financial payment. They still don't understand. The financial payment is not a sum to wave around in a bid to bribe the EU into your preferred position. It is an IOU from spending plans we signed off on years ago.

It doesn't matter what you think of it: that is what the EU thinks. That is their long held position which has not varied one inch from when they first stated it. Even as yesterday's debate over Theresa May's deal bored on, EU negotiator Michel Barnier made crystal clear in a tweet that there would only be a transition if there was a deal. He can't possibly be any clearer. And yet they still do not understand.

Reality simply will not pierce the brains of these people. Baker was on the radio this morning insisting the government could trigger "GATT 24", a Brexiter myth about an international law provision which they say allows for a ten-year standstill trading arrangement. In reality, the provision is for two sides, with a detailed plan. It cannot be used unilaterally, which makes it useless for no-deal. It is, quite literally, a provision for deals. Applying it to a no-deal situation is like taking a boat on a trip to the desert.

And even if EU agreement could be secured - which it cannot, because it has already been ruled out - there is no detailed plan to base it on. But it doesn't matter. It's irrelevant how many former WTO officials or trade negotiators tell them this does not apply. They will not listen. They are living inside their own heads, demanding the worst possible degradation of this country because it somehow might satisfy their bizarre emotional needs.

The truth is out now. It is in black and white in those government documents. It is, simply put and without hyperbole, the most extreme proposition made in mainstream British political debate in our lifetime.

Babyproofing is a method of preparing the places like the house, cars, and cribs to prevent your baby from unintentional injuries and self-harming situations.

The everyday things, normal for adults, like corners of furniture, glass items, doors, drawers, can become a hazard once the babies start crawling and learn to pull, walk, climb.

You might also be tempted to delay babyproofing, thinking that the baby is not even rolling and you still have time. But before you know it, you are running behind them to stop them from getting hurt.

Why Do You Need To Babyproof Your House?

Most parents must have heard the elders say that babyproofing is a western world idea. While we do not imply that the elders are wrong, however, the changes in the lifestyle in the past few decades has made babyproofing a requisite.

In earlier times, there was space in houses and many people to look after babies in joint families, while the others completed their chores. Now, when most parents are working, families are nuclear, and there aren't specific people to watch the baby, making babyproofing an absolute necessity. Even if a parent is not working, there are times when the baby cannot be watched over and requires set-up to prevent any mishap.

Here are some points to keep in mind while deciding to babyproof your house and keep your little ones safe.

1. Analyze everything from the POV (Point of View) of a baby.

2. Every corner can hurt, every piece of loose furniture can fall, any drawer could have items that might hurt them, and no cap/cork is too tight for the babies to open.

3. Water, toiletries, plastic bags, medicines, cutting tools, step-up stools, ladders, gas stove knobs can be dangerous to babies and toddlers.

4. Stairs, balconies, windows and doors are to be closed properly, and proper stoppers are to be used to prevent them from closing on the kids suddenly.

5. Toys given to children should always be age-appropriate, so they do not suffocate or swallow them in curiosity.

Here is the list that will need babyproofing, to say the least.

Movable furniture

All the furniture should be anchored to the floor and fixed to avoid toppling over the little ones, such as TV cabinets, wheeled tables or chairs, rickety chest of drawers etc. Children should not be left unattended in rooms with heavy furniture. There are many options available such as furniture straps that help stabilizes the pieces of furniture. Also, any appliances that are sitting on any movable piece of furniture should be attached to the wall (For Example - TV, music systems).

Edges

Most injuries are caused by the edges or walls, tables, beds. Edge guards and bumpers for all items and sizes are available easily. They cover any sharp corners which the crawling babies or running toddlers might accidentally hit. Crawl or sit at the height of your child to see what they might run into and hurt themselves. TIP - start babyproofing with edges and bed/crib proofing first, these are the first need as soon as your baby starts to turn over and crawl at 3 to 4 months of age.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms report the most serious accidents in toddlers and babies. Never leave the baby unattended in the bathroom even for a second, especially when using a bathtub. Adjust the maximum temperature of the water heater at 48 degrees Celcius to avoid accidental burns. Bathtub bottoms and bathroom floor should be covered with antislip mats, and plumbing should be covered with rubber covers to prevent slipping and related injuries. Shower curtains are an absolute no-no with small kids. Toilet seats should be shut tight with latches as they pose a threat of falling and ingesting contaminated water. Above all, keep the bathroom and toilet doors closed and secured with babyproof latches at all times when not in use.

Cabinets

All cabinets with openable doors, sliding doors, open shelves, drawers should be sealed safely with cabinet door latches. This is an easier option than removing and segregating things from all the cabinets in the house. Cabinets assigned to cutlery, crockery, wires and appliances, chemicals, shoes that have apparent hazards should be kept under the lock at all times. Drawers need to be secured because they can be used to climb on the pieces of furniture. TIP - It will also save you from unnecessary efforts of cleaning afterwards!

Beds/Cribs

Whether you co-sleep with your baby or use a crib, both situations need specific proofing to prevent the baby or toddler from falling and injuring themselves. The Cribs should not have electric ports, hanging curtains, peeling paint, windows or anything near that have even remote chances of hurting them. Avoid stuffing the crib with too many soft toys, pillows or blankets as rolling and entangling in them can cause choking in kids. If you are co-sleeping or Sharing beds, make the babies sleep on the side of the bed to avoid the risk of SIDS or suffocation in the mattress. The side of the beds can be safeguarded by bed rails available in the market. TIP - Place blankets or rugs around the bed or crib on the floor so avoid accidental falling and hurting, because these little ones can make surprising superman moves in their sleep!

Electric Ports and Appliances

All electric ports should be covered with safety sockets. Cords, battery-operated electronic appliances such as trimmers or shavers should be kept away from reach at all times. The baby proofing safety plugs are tight enough so that the kids cannot remove them. The kids will surely try to plug-in sockets if they get a chance as it will fascinate them, and they see you as adults doing it. Open wiring or cables should be tied and taped to the wall or concealed if possible. TIP - Always carry safety plugs when you go out and use them when needed to reduce your stress.

Stairs/windows

Metal railings and gates have been a boon and a revolution in babyproofing techniques. Sturdy and safe, they eliminate the chasing and anxiety or mini heart-attack you get when you see your baby crawling or trying to explore stairs. The stair gates need to be installed at both ends to prevent climbing up/down both. To avoid putting too many rails, you can isolate some floors and not take the baby to that floor at all. Similarly, windows need to be babyproofed with special window latches and temporary grills, especially those easy to reach. Windows also need to be proofed with soft pads to avoid finger-snapping due to accidental closing. TIP - Place all movable items like walkers, tricycles on the ground floor to avoid accidents.

Medicine and Toxic Material

Medicines and toxic materials filled in bottles tubes are super attractive for babies and toddlers. Naturally, they are drawn towards these items out of curiosity, and how much you try, no cork or screw or bottle cap is too tight to prevent them from opening it. Therefore, removing these items from their reach is the only option. Never let these items left loose and an unattended baby around. Always secure medicine or toxic items away in latched cabinets and cupboards closed with babyproof latches. TIP - It will be easier to reposition the medicine/ chemicals/ toxic material at out-of-reach cabinets until the kids grow up, as you wouldn't want to risk poisoning in case someone forgets to put back the latch, or the latch breaks open, or the kids somehow find their way through the safety locks.

Kitchen and tableware

The kitchen usually becomes a playground for kids with a huge collection of utensils and kitchenware. It is paramount to keep heavy items like mortar and pestle, knives, scissors, cutters in drawers that can be locked or at a height out of their reach. It is advised to change the side of gas knobs if possible. If it is not possible, make sure the main switch for gas is shut down after the use every time because the toddlers can reach them and turn them on. Remove table cloths, especially when the toddlers are learning to stand and walk. They may use the cloth as support, and the aftermath could seriously injure them. TIP - High chairs for kids is recommended as it saves dinner table mess and breaking of crockery.

Does baby proofing make my baby completely safe?

No. No babyproofing can guarantee 100% safety and assurance that nothing will hurt your child. Baby proofing is about consciously eliminating apparent dangers that can cause serious harm. In fact, your baby learns about protecting themselves when they get hurt, it is a part of their cognitive and sensory development. But we are talking about bruising the knee or arm. Babyproofing saves from serious injuries calling for hospital visits.

Baby proofing does not mean spending a fortune and getting everything at once. Plan as soon as your baby arrives and choose what is required. There are options in all price range available in the market, so keep your budgets in check without worrying.

We suggest whenever you are working in the house, especially if you are alone with baby, make a playpen for them so they can play in that pen till you complete your chores, without you having to lose your mind every time you hear a noise somewhere in the house (or maybe too much silence and no noise from your baby)

Chapter Fifteen - All I Want

All I want is nothing more To hear you knocking at my door 'Cause if I could see your face once more I could die as a happy man I'm sure

“It’s perfect for us” he corrects.

My breath catches in my throat. Us? I did hear him correctly, right? Harry said with his mouth, that this house is perfect for us. As in Harry and Blair, as in him and myself. Us.

“Us?” I squeak, unsure how many times I replayed his voice saying that one troublesome word in my head. That IS what he said, after all.

“Us.” he nodded, certain. Harry reached and grabbed my hand, holding it in his own, his warmth spread from my hand and travelled throughout my entire body, warming me right to my core. He hesitated, afraid, before speaking again. “Blairy... I... I don’t mean... like... you don't need to like... move in right away...”

My shoulders visibly relaxed, and I let go of a breath I hadn't even noticed that I had been holding in. Harry sensed, my sudden relaxation, and took that as an opportunity to tell me what he was really thinking. “I mean, I want this place to be ours someday. There’s no rush, of course, I would never want to rush you, but when I was looking for a new house after everything that happened, I looked at so many different ones, bigger, smaller, older... But every house I walked through, something was missing, and I knew that it was you, because there’s no home without you, Blair-” He paused, to brush a stray piece of hair from my cheek, and I shudder at his touch.

“I would walk through every house, and think to myself, Blair wouldn’t like how dark this room is, or, I can’t see her in this kitchen at 2am eating ice-cream straight from the container in one of my old t-shirts. And then I finally settled on this house, the garden, the kitchen, the whole house just kinda felt as right as a house could, and I know I’m rambling on but I just feel like you need to know, that despite everything that happened, and everything you told me - and I know we agreed to move on but just let me finish - you’re a part of me, Blair. You’re in every decision I make, you’re in every thought I have, I can’t see a future without you in it.”

Tears sprung to my eyes, and I let them. I couldn't help but feel that maybe, just maybe, I deserve this.

“Har-” I’m silenced almost as soon as I begin, his finger swiping away a stray tear that escaped to run down my cheek. “Don’t cry! Blair, I’m just trying to tell you, that I don't care how long this takes, I don’t want to take you for granted being here right now, but I gotta say that man, my heart expands about 100 times the size just by being so near to you, and I was afraid that you’d never let me touch you again, let alone-” He paused to brush his lips against mine, causing a prickling sensation all over my body, raising the hairs on my arms.

Harry pulled away and smirks with that stupid lopsided grin that I love oh-so much. “So thank you, thank you for letting me back into your life, I promise you now, that I will never let anything come between us again. It goes without saying, but... I’m all yours.”

My head spins, a mixture of confusion, fear, anxiety, and of course, delight and love.

“Forever?” I ask, cheekily.

“For as long as you’ll have me, I’m yours.” He smiles, beaming at me. I stand up off the stool and wrap my arms around his waist, resting my head against his chest. He instantly wraps his arms around me and squeezes me tight, propping his head on top of mine. “Thank you” I say, my voice mumbled by his sweater. “Shut up, dummy. You already knew all of that stuff anyway” he chuckled, leaning back to look down at my face. His expression soft.

I turn my head up to him, “I still think we should take things slow, though. Let’s just take it day by day, everything will fall into place like it did the first time. I just don't want to rush anything, and I don't think that moving straight back in with you is the right way to go just yet, I still feel like I need my own place for a while longer, just as a kind of safety net.” I notice a drop in his expression, and I put my thumb on his chin and make him look at me.

His dazzling green eyes lock onto mine, and I’m paralysed for a moment. “Haz, I need to learn to trust you again, you understand that, right?” I ask, with caution, his expression drops further. “Blair, I’m so-” I shush him. “I know.”

Sadness still resides on his features, and I can't help but tilt my head to the side and pull a wacky face. It works, because I know him too well, there are certain looks I can give him that are guaranteed to make him laugh affectionately. “There he is” I cheer, pinching his cheek.

I walk across to the other side of the kitchen, opening the fridge and poking around inside, a lot of leftovers, and a lot of snackage, and an unusual amount of cheeses for a man who lives alone. “So cowboy, how are you going to entertain me this fine evening?” I quiz, looking at him over my shoulder, as he watches me, his face, an expression of pure content, seeing me roam freely around his kitchen and have a good nosey in his fridge.

“Let’s watch Harry Potter” he suggests, with a knowing smile. My weakness. I grin madly, and his eyes light up. “But!” he announces, and of course, there is a condition. “You have to make the popcorn, because you know how to get it just right and you know I always burn it because I’m hopeless.”

Sighing dramatically, I roll my eyes before I agree. “WOOO” he exclaims loudly, making me jump, before scurrying off to the lounge to set everything up.

While the popcorn kernels pop away in the pan, I lean against the bench and my eyes scan over everything in the room, there’s definitely room for a woman’s touch, thats for sure. But its really big, a lot of bench space for my baking, and I can already see about a dozen spaces for pot plants, several spots for numerous kitchen accessories... I could easily eat breakfast on those white stools every morning, while watching harry make me a cup of tea.

He’s good. He picked this place out with me in mind, and he chose wisely. The bare white walls are perfect. A Blank canvas for me to do with them what I please. But first, we need to make whatever is going on between the two of us work.

Once the popcorn is ready, with the perfect amount of butter on it, I make my way into the lounge and find that Harry has set up the movie, and also gathered all the pillows and blankets and piled them on the huge comfy couch. I ache to dive into the soft mountain and sink in. “Ready?” he asks, jumping onto the couch and he almost disappears completely underneath the pillows and blankets. I can't help but laugh, “Press play already!” I squeal with excitement, jumping onto the couch next to him, trying my best not to let the popcorn fly everywhere. I wriggle around and make myself comfortable, shoving a handful of popcorn in my mouth.

I must say, its nice. Just being in Harry’s company, its easy. Its as though a weight has been lifted off my chest. My ability to slowly let go of his betrayal, and the resentment I felt towards him has made me begin to feel like a normal person once more. I talked a big talk of never going back to him, never forgiving him, changing into a person he barely recognised... And while I know I have changed, trauma changes people after all, Harry has changed too. He lost our baby as well. We’ve both changed, but I know deep down that we’ll never stop loving each other.
