I think an important thing to remember going into this season is all these characters are in a stage of growth.

And not just narratively, but psychologically.

All the main stories people have been fighting about center around characters between the ages of 19 and 22, we do a lot of growth as people during this time.

Eloise befriending someon she previously disliked? Her both wanting to lash out at her former friend but also no wanting her actually hurt by not outing Whistledown? I expected something like this.

Penelope putting on this new mask to make herself seem different despite not really being changing? Making mistakes as we keep getting hints at? Yeah. Not surprising for a 19 year old.

Colin also seemingly forcing himself to be something hes not? Struggling with his feelings, with his words? I'm not shocked.

They've been saying it in interviews, a theme this season is growth, but we as the audience need to give them the chance to grow. And a lot of people seem unwilling to do that.

It’s a very fun comic! The marriage seeker mystery can finally be put to rest 😌 I don’t really think it changes much, that it overrides anything we knew or that I theorized, esp since we already knew about the party-wide romance ban, but the meme potential (and fic potential) IS so strong now that we know Laios was the one most targeted and distrusted of all… And trust was the biggest issue, romance brings nothing but trouble in their minds but the trouble they experienced with the marriage seeker was because she was disingenuous and manipulative and Laios was oblivious, and as time went on the party realized that Marcille was trustworthy and they stopped worrying about that particular scenario happening. It can def bring a new meaning to the "This is my succubus?!! No one can see it no one can know AAAAA" line though lmfaoo. It’s so funny and honestly such a win for aroace Laios

My paired down list of spirit work and death magic. (Obviously this is what works for me and I'm kind of a picky person when I aquire written work)

Physical Media:

Cunning Words: A Grimoire of Tales and Magic by Marshall WSL (This one I pre-ordered and haven't gotten through the whole text but it's a good read. It incorporates the art of story telling with distinct spells and magic. I think it's very unique but I wouldn't recommend it unless you want something with flavor)

Riding the Bones by the three little sisters (this one is an anthology of particular practices from different walks of life pertaining to death and transition. I've only read a few of the stories but for what it's worth I think its good insight)

Botanical Curses and Poisons by Fez Inkwright (I only list this because it's always good to know what's good and bad for you. Know what can kill you and you can probably avoid it)

The Bones Fall in A Spiral by Mortellus (again I've mentioned this before but I think this is a good work for someone getting into the field and needs someone that's direct and experienced in what they do. One of my favorites.

Consorting with Spirits by Jason Miller (I feel like this is a staple of the craft and while I personally don't connect with the material it works and it has some good points)

Metamorphosis by Ovid (I think it's always necessary to deal with primary texts. Go with the classics. Ovid has a beautiful way of writing and you get to really understand the stories and myths that spirits of the dead living etc are connected to and if you do any deity work I highly recommend it.)

Of Blood and Bone by Kate Freuler (I have mixed views on this one. some of the stuff is informative and it provides some good spells, but it lacks transparency and depth. I find Mortellus book far more student minded.)

The complete language of flowers by S. Theresa Dietz (if you work with the dead, deities, spirits or hey plant spirits. Chances are you've come across Victorian flower language. I use this book as a reference guide for symbolism/folklore/ and as a way to connecting with spirits)

Encyclopedia of Spirits by Judika Illes (hey no library is complete without an encyclopedia. I personally like this one because it's very indepth without being too overwhelming. Not sure where to go? Just pick up this book and you can do more indepth research later. It's what it's there for. Reference guides are one of my favorites.)

Morbid Magic by Tomàs Prower (I think if you buy any book from this collection buy this one. It gives you an over all guide of most death practices around the world)

Historical:

Death, Dissection and the Destitute by Ruth Richardson

The Work of the Dead by Thomas W. Laqueur.

(I list these because they are a good source guide to how we treated the dead and spirits in the past. It's always important we learn from those that came before us.)

Greek Customs: (if you're going to do any type of work with Greek chthonic deities I suggest these three articles/books. I'm not saying its mandatory but these are very helpful guides to understanding ancient thought and how to bring them into today.)

Burial Customs, The Afterlife and the Pollution of Death in ancient Greece by Francois Pieter Retief and Louise Cilliers (free on research gate)

Underworld Gods in Ancient Greek Religion Death and Reciprocity by Ellie Mackin Roberts

Inner Purity and Pollution in Greek Religion Volume 1 by Andrej Petrovic and Ivana Petrovic (this one's my personal favorite)

I am going to be SUCH the bigger person about this I saw a post that not only was wrong and annoying and a little mean spirited, but it was about something I am specifically knowledgeable and passionate about and which affects me directly, AND I kept my damn mouth shut and out of the replies despite the fact that it's killing me to do so

This team rocket stuff is just making me think that i'd be a lot more open to this new trend of "reclaiming" negative portrayals of gnc people if anyone acknowledged there was reclamation going on instead of acting like this is radical and positive from the beginning. and yeah, I understand that it sucks to have to put a big "this is homo/transphobic" disclaimer on any post you make but ANY thought and discussion would be appreciated

RIGHT like the issue is not reclaiming these tropes, far from it, i think doing that is awesome! but people don't seem to think that team rocket is a negative portrayal at all- like it just never comes up or anything. yes its fun to go "team rocket is every sexuality at once" like ive participated in that, its nice, but we should also maybe mention how these traits combined with jessie constantly being shamed as a "freak" by the main characters is like.... not great.

and don't get me started on when people are like "the anime is gnc positive!!" and they point to the transmisogynistic "ha ha ash is forced to dress like a GIRL isnt that HUMILIATING??" trend

the finnish parliament is about to vote on abolishing sterilisation, medical treatment and psychiatric assessment as requirements for legal gender reassignment and i am nervous as fuck.

#it's been almost 10 years since equal marriage law passed but the debates have been just as surreal #the prime minister has had to apologise to trans people for the poor taste of some of our dear representatives #also the centre party is allowing their people to vote 'according to conscience' even though they're sitting in the cabinet that #created this bill in the first place #if you want to be in the opposition why did you get in the cabinet???#it's not trans people's fault your party is past its prime and on its last legs #the previous law is from 2002 and shit so please please please let my native country enter the 2020s at last
