If it's with you 君となら恋をしてみても Ep 5 (Finale)
my shiny new paid vpn does not want to connect to tver; I keep getting errors :( guess I'll have to rely on the free one instead.
Amane, you sweet, silly boy!
i'm going to miss this show
THE BANTER I love this so much
ooof sudden casual homophobia
RYUUJI HOLY SHIT ILU
and nobody took it badly!!! I love this so much holy SHIT
HOLDING HANDS alexa play Whiteberry's 夏祭り and queue ZONE's HANABI 〜君がいた夏〜
oh Amane, oh bb.
RYUUJI. I'm just. YELLING here. Help this boy is so good.
天もちゃんと素直に言えたじゃん!! Amaneeee good JOB using your words
okay I do not believe there's a publicly accessible spot where you can see this clearly and there's NO-ONE there
FUTURE!!! THINKING AHEAD!! god I— GOODNESS. Do we get a kiss? Firework kiss?
even better, we get WORDS
I LOVE that we get Ryuuji's perspective here
he's taking so much care with Amane's feelings 🥹
OH we've got an ECHO I love this
(pausing to note) the dead parent convo just … really hit me where it hurts, but it was also really lovely.
these boys are SO BRAVE oh my god
I LOVE how they intercut these moments of tension with laughter and banter, and the way they let body language and facial expressions do so much of the storytelling for us here!
we're back at the lighthouse!
talked through the night, huh. I love that!
… whoa.
Starting out, I did NOT expect this to be this much of a feel-good show. I'm probably going to try and get a copy — wonder whether that bluray they announced is actually about the show? that'd be incredible, gonna be staking out the site as instructed. I think I'll have to let this sink in a little before I can form coherent thoughts, but man. what a lovely, lovely little show.

Hey Alexa, play ‘The Lighthouse’ by Halsey.
Everyone, meet Ming Yu, Warrior of the Deep and She Who amends the Broken Wave. When creating her character and figuring out who she was, the concept of feminine rage was something that was just repetitive through my process. I have a lot I could say about her, but I think I’ll show you some of my character notes that I made below:
Yu is not only a warrior, but an expert sailor and navigator, descendant of a long line of seafaring merchants. There are a number of versions of her legend, but the one that is most passed on is that she was the beautiful young daughter of a nobleman who fell for a common sailor. Her parents disapproved but he promised to make his fortune as a sailor to one day marry her and win them over. She waited for him by the Singing Shores everyday for him to return- however, the man died at sea. Refusing to marry anyone else, she left to the sea rather than forget her love, and his spirit lives in the waves to always keep her boat afloat and keep her safe- This legend of course is entire garbage except for the fact that Yu is incredibly beautiful and that she went to sea rather than marry. This woman has never needed nor been interested in men her entire life. While she is upperclass, she isn’t a noblewoman, and the reason her ship is always blessed is because SHE IS TERRIFYINGLY POWERFUL IN THE WATER. It’s less accuracy than sheer, raw power.
Shout out to animators bc making this almost killed me. I will never do this again (<- a lie bc I will forget this lesson and do it again)
(A fun bonus for you guys, you get to see some outlines for 2 Warriors I haven’t show you yet 🤭)

The Mind-Blowing Future of PWA and Web Apps in 2023: What You Need to Know!
Tumblr media
PWA (Progressive Web Apps) and Web Apps are advancing in recent years. Businesses are now shifting their focus from native apps to PWAs and web apps as they are quick and inexpensive.
Progressive Web App Services have a great future as they combine the best of web and mobile applications and try to integrate mobile device functionality with discoverability, accessibility, and user-friendliness.
Through this article get to know more about the bright future of PWA and Web Apps this year.
Latest Web App Development Trends of 2023
Progressive Web Apps (PWAs)?
In simple terms, PWAs are mobile apps that are accessed through a website, without even visiting or downloading the app from the Play Store or App store. One can have the same feel with PWA as they get through a mobile application.
PWAs help websites load in no time and work offline in apps like Google Maps. Many companies including Pinterest, Twitter, Uber use PWAs to improve user experience.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML)
AI and ML are becoming prevalent in web development. Many companies are using this Artificial Intelligence Technology to improvise and stay up to date with emerging technology and trend in their websites and apps.
Single Page Application (SPA)
These are web applications that contain a single HTML page that initially loads the content dynamically as the user interacts with the app.
The perks of SPA are:
Supports offline
Convenient debugging
Quick page load and reduced bounce rate
Easy navigation
JavaScript Frameworks
JavaScript Frameworks are compiled programming languages that include React, Angular and Vue.js, Node. It’s estimated that out of all websites in the world, 98.6% of websites use JavaScript as their programming language.
Optimized Voice Search
As more and more people are using voice assistants, companies are adding these to their applications. Google Assistant, Siri, and Alexa are one of the most powerful voice searches among GenZ people.
Which is better, PWA or Native Apps?
Download and Installation
PWA does not require any application to download. Can be accessed from a web browser, without app installation.
Native Apps require to be installed from the Play Store or App Store which consumes both time and storage.
    2. Performance
PWA loads faster but is run by a third-party browser making it significant for battery consumption.
Native Apps on the other hand demonstrate flawless user experience without taking much battery and providing better performance than PWA.
  3. Features and Functionalities
PWA doesn’t allow push notifications, smart sensor usage, or inter-app functionalities to users.
Native App provides a better set of features and functions like geofencing, money payments via NFCs.
  4. Development Cost
PWA is quick and easy, inexpensive to develop and support.
Native Apps take longer and are expensive to develop.
  5. Offline Capability
PWA relies on web browser connectivity to run therefore it is not a good option for offline mode or poor internet connection.
Native Apps are installed on the phone making its data locally available on the phone regardless of connectivity.
  6. Security
PWA are secure as they run under HTTPS and need their own security certification.
Native Apps are more secure than PWAs as their TLS certificates ensure high-security standards.
Development Tools for PWA
Polymer
React
Vue.js
AngularJS
Lighthouse
Webpack
Is PWA the Future of Responsive Web Design?
For a long time, responsive web designs are used by companies to display websites well on small and large screens alike without the need to maintain a specific mobile version of the same website.
Responsive web design doesn’t use progressive enhancements to deliver native features when viewed on any device. Progressive web app solves this problem. They are an advanced version of Responsive Web Apps favouring a mobile-specific environment.
Conclusion
The rise of Progressive Web Applications (PWAs) and Web Apps is remarkable. It has taken over the Native App place and is already supported by browsers like Google Chrome and Opera, Microsoft Edge, Safari, and Firefox.
We at Codiant provide high-end Progressive Web App development solutions. Our aim is to meet user needs and work efficiently. We ensure that users visiting your website get an immersive app experience. Hence, PWA is still relevant in 2023 and has the potential to become the web application of the future.

9 Beauty Mistakes You need to By no means Make
Tumblr media
Some questions to consider during your research might include: What does medical/scientific research show us regarding children and technology? What stage of development is this research in? Your research question could be, what role did women play during resistance efforts in occupied France? Unless you move into a research or academic-based field, it's unlikely you will write a formal research paper at work that includes a research topic and question. Most often, academia utilizes research topics and questions. Students in any academic discipline may use research topics. We have compiled a list of ten interesting technology research topics for you! This ensures there is enough information accessible for you to complete your research paper. Enough said, really-though Samsung’s killer Magician SSD management software and long warranty period also deserve a shout-out. A platform that breaks their software is no platform at all. Additionally, new AI software has been released that can more actively predict the health and success of frozen eggs and embryos. The system involves spinning jars that keep the embryos bathed in nutritious blood serum and oxygen.
Barden has also been involved with the ongoing project that began in 2020 to modernize the campus network, which involves over 10,000 pieces of equipment that need replacing. One basic everyday example of this is light; we are visual creatures and need light to see. It’s so cool to see. For 카지노사이트 주소 of construction technology, see bridge; building construction; canals and inland waterways; dam; harbours and sea works; lighthouse; roads and highways; tunnels and underground excavations; environmental works. Incorporation of innovative LTFS (linear tape file system) in the firmly established LTO-5 ultrium tape format provides the robustness, economy and long term reliability to satisfy the needs of today’s mid-range and enterprise applications. The United Kingdom is very much a service dependent economy and the majority of the UK’s workforce spends the day within the business office. Today there are 300 million Alexa devices installed; Google handles 5.6 billion searches each day on average, and half its users report using voice for search. The Callisto Protocol release date is set for December 2, and you can pre-purchase the day one and digital deluxe editions on Steam now. Wait till the condition has improved, then make the trip and set up an appointment.
Juventus’s stock did get a brief boost after news of superstar Cristiano Ronaldo’s transferring to the club in 2018, but those gains have dissipated since then - and Ronaldo has since left for Manchester United. You will then wash the oil away. The tool will enable countries to: (a) identify good practices and areas where EdTech policies can be strengthened, and (b) monitor progress as countries take action. “There will be no price increase in the United States.” Still, it’s a startling development, as in decades of gaming, I can’t remember a time when a console actually went up in price without some sort of associated performance enhancement (such as the Switch OLED Model, PS4 Pro, or TurboDuo). But the role of those workers and how their performance is measured have changed. And researchers have tied that slower growth to substantially slackened productivity growth, which affects the entire economy, all the way down to personal incomes. Questions researchers might consider include: How accessible are these IVF technologies? Accelerate adoption of these leading technologies as quickly as they’re available to give your business a competitive edge. Today, there are countless cutting-edge medical technologies such as prosthetic limbs that are 3D printed and needle-free diabetes treatment.
From history to math to art, there is more knowledge in any field of study than one person can possibly learn. Although this is more than possible to do, you really should think of taking the time to first decide what you want or what you should acquire. Those who have inner beauty are kind hearted and spend time with other people when possible. Advancements in cutting-edge medical technology make it possible to save more people's lives. With the invention of vaccines, more people are able to establish immunity to harmful diseases. The in-house models of programs are best as they can accommodate such features as this. “We’ve always thought differently about what it means to keep customers connected, and that’s why we’re working with the best to deliver coverage above and beyond anything customers have ever seen before,” said Mike Sievert, CEO of T-Mobile. It is also known as ‘Naqsh-e Jahan’, which means ‘pattern of the world’. This is something that age and time can’t take away from us. Most viewers tend to discover anything inside of a character with which they identify, and as a result of that connection, the reader and author can take a journey collectively.

𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐄𝐂𝐓 ( encanto. )
summary ;; the way she runs and smiles and dances is so perfect.
pairing ;; luisa madrigal x @deardolores
warnings ;; none. pure fluff. teeth rotting. also, luisa is a simp.
notes ;; hey alexa play love grows (where my rosemary goes) by edison lighthouse
taglist ;; @deardolores
IT WAS EVIDENT IN THE WAY SHE VIEWED HER THAT SHE WAS HEAD-OVER-HEELS. not in a subtle way. in an 'i'm so in love with you it's gross'. luisa had been friends with kate for years. years and years and years. and for all of those years and years and years and years, luisa loved her. she just now realized it.
how great.
luisa was in the marketplace, helping fix a broken stall. she wasn't paying much attention to anything other than the person she was helping. well, until a trio of musicians began playing her favorite song. damn. she couldn't leave her job, so she stayed, and worked, and kind of hummed, and kind of nodded her head along to the music. when she was done, the song was still going. why? because kate was dancing. hooray!
luisa loved watching kate dance. the way she moved, was so delicate and calming, like words flowing from a pen, to create beautiful poetry, admired for years afterward. her smile was a light of its own. so bright that it could go against casita in a shining contest. her hair flowed in the gentle wind, and the sun hit the right angles on her face, at the very right second.
what a lucky woman.
kate must've noticed luisa staring, because she grinned, and waved her over. suddenly, luisa turned into a shy little girl. not the strongest madrigal. she was very visibly shy. embarrassing. but kate must've liked it, because she began clapping, single-handedly causing the small crowd to clap too.
a small sliver of luisa hated kate at that moment. but it was soon replaced with admiration, as kate gently took her hand, and led her into the circle that formed.
"come on, luisa, let's see you dance," she challenged, raising an eyebrow playfully. luisa laughed, and shook her head. "come on!"
"i can't dance," luisa laughed.
kate smiled and nodded. luisa danced with kate once. it was really nice. but it was in front of abuela, so that made it weirder than luisa (and probably kate too) preferred. "yes you can! come on, you three, play the song again." she said, nodding. the trio smiled and then began playing.
kate took both of luisa's hands, and just started moving. nodding, luisa followed suit. but she didn't look at anything else besides her dance partner. she saw happiness. she saw warmth. she saw comfort. she saw...her future?
no, she was not turning into tio bruno!
but whatever she was turning into, whether it was tio bruno, or an in-love madwoman, she didn't really mind. she didn't mind the beautiful smile kate gave her. she didn't mind the way kate mindlessly swept a loose hair from her forehead, without a word.
it was a smile. one damn smile. a smile was all, and lusia knew she was right. kate was simply: perfect.

Chapter 31 to Epilogue
- No ball?
- WHAT?
- WHAT IN THE SCHIZOPHRENIC HELL!?
- WHO/WHAT IS POSSESSING THEM? I’m genuinely shocked! I did not expect this twist at all!
- Why is this shipwreck important? I want to know the mystery!
- “I’m still yours.” Fuck off
- I agree with Cassius here. Impressing someone with your skills and knowledge is very sexy
- My bet is that Fisher is behind all of this. Since we haven’t found him yet. In retrospect, I should’ve been more certain. He was the one who told them about the portal thingy. Let’s see if I’m right
- So Silas’ dead. Why should I care about this nothing character again?
- This whole lighthouse segment is such filler content Jesus Christ. I don’t care about it at all
- Oh fuck! Fisher’s dead!!
- Ugh. His aunt. Seriously?
- Fisher... he was in on it, but at what cost
- Verity... poor baby
- I had the chills. Kosamaras is intense af!

- Tbh, I’m kinda disappointed with it. It was the uncle the whole time? My literature boner is basically a limp noodle now
- Camille. What the fuck!?
- Oh. It was another trick. My mind went somewhere real far
- Wait a minute. It wasn’t the uncle! Is this leading to Camille? Wait. Let me finish
- Wait. What? Am I getting fight clubbed?
- Dude. I totally forgot about morella with all this craziness going on. What a time to give birth to twins
- Okay now I feel bad for making so many jokes. Poor little baby
- Annaleigh, love. You sound crazy. Camille was this close to start believing you
- I can’t connect any dots
- I can’t fucking believe they fucking went with the fucking evil stepmother trope! I’m so fucking mad!
- Omg. I can’t fucking count.
- The “mistress” was eulalie, wasn’t it?
- Called it!

- I don’t think Cassius will die
- Oh no. He thanos’d himself

- Annaleigh is working in the lighthouse like she always wanted! That’s cute
- Camille is duchess! Lenore is overcoming her grief, everything is going well!
- Cassius? Someone else used the gauntlet?
- Oh. The wish. Obviously
- Ok. I didn’t really like this epilogue, but I get it. It’s supposed to be a happy ending and that is usually tied to having the love interests being together. Sure.

A Question of Agency | Yuki | Trial 1 - 1 | Re: Kai, Alexandra, Occam
Feeling like they don't really know a whole lot more than they did when they started, Yuki shuffles into the elevator moodily, bouncing lightly on their toes and eager to get off again as soon as the doors open. They dart into the new room, having listened on and off to the explanation given on the way, but whatever they got the gist.
And the room is... fucked up and spooky. Yikes. Yuki edges around the podiums, squinting warily at the nameplates and the symbols. If this were a comic there would be question marks floating above their head. Once they find the podium designated for them, they move to sit on top of it, because why not, and cross their arms, staring up at the ceiling now.
"Th'fuck...?" Yeah they're a bit distracted. What is up with those stars? Are those stars? Is it even nighttime right now? Hello?
No one else seems to be paying too much attention to the bizarre nature of their surroundings though, so Yuki reluctantly drags their attention back to the more important matter at hand.
"I ain't a snitch." Is, for some reason, the first thing they feel the need to announce to the group at large. "But this don't seem like that kinda situation. Not like anyone here's a cop, far as I know, an' anyway whoever killed Vyolette..." They pause to take a breath, a flash of anger in their sky blue eyes.
"It ain't right. The people that trapped us here an' are doin' this bullshit to us are definitely at fault too, but they didn't force no one t'make a bomb an' put it where it'd go off an' kill somebody. I don't wanna execute no one, that seems like bullshit, but I don't wanna die neither, 'specially not for someone that'd kill Vy when they ain't even did nothin' to deserve it."
The situation sucks, no doubt, and if Yuki thought it'd do any good then they'd punch that old white lady in the face before playing along. But right now they've got some semblance of priorities.
"'Fore we decide what t'do though, we oughta at least figure out who did it. Vy deserves that much, that we at least learn who did this to 'em an' all that. I don't really know the answer, but I'm gonna do my best, 'cause they were cool an' nice to me. So." Yuki punches a fist into the palm of their other hand.
"Here's what I know. I was sleepin' out in the field on the second level last night, got myself a tent set up there. Before all the motive stuff I was sharin' a room with Flint, but I started stayin' outside after 'cause I didn't like the weird crushin' feelin' from bein' near people, y'all know what I mean. Anyway I was out there, an' sometime around uh... I think it was 2:30am when I checked my phone... I got woken up by someone wanderin' past. I poked my head out an' saw Alexa, but she didn't stick around or get too close, so I jus' went back t'sleep. Got up a little after sunrise an' went an' hung out in the Lighthouse for a bit, Cody was there too."
Yuki points at Cody now, aka Mx. Swanson, so that people know who they're talking about.
"Anyway, I was actually s'posed t'meet up with Vyolette this mornin' to play some games in the Arcade, so I was on my way there, headin' through the Bar where Shiori an' Shiloh Lee were, when I heard the explosion go off an' ran into the Arcade an' found 'em like that. That was right around 9am I guess."
That's part of the timeline established, at least.

2 winners and 3 losers from One Direction’s solo albums
The boys have all gone in different … directions … since their indefinite hiatus in 2016. Some are better than others.
By Alexa Lee (Jan 31, 2020, 9:00am EST)
A decade — yes, a decade — ago, a teenage boy band by the name of One Direction was formed. After auditioning as individual singers on the British musical competition The X Factor, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik were thrown together into a group by TV personality Simon Cowell in 2010. And thus, One Direction was born.
While the group only placed third on The X Factor, their time on the reality show was just the beginning of their global takeover. Over a span of five years, the group released five albums, did four world tours, broke numerous Billboard 100 music records (including ones previously only held by the Beatles), recorded a documentary, and even released a perfume.
At the same time, the five members also became the basis of adolescent crushes and fervor for many years to come. Thanks to their individual quirks and calculated branding ploys, each boy quickly became an archetype for a different high school crush: Niall was the adorable friend, Harry the artistic boy next door. Zayn was quietly mysterious, while Liam was extroverted and jockish. And Louis? Hmm, well — Louis was also there.
For those five years, the One Direction boys seemed like they were untouchable. That is, until Zayn left the group in 2015 to embark on a solo career, and, a year later, the remaining band members announced an “indefinite hiatus.”
Four years after One Direction announced its hiatus, each of the One Direction-ers have begun their own solo careers. It’s the first time any of them have recorded without each other, and the first time they’ve performed solo in front of an audience since being on The X Factor as teens. Their solo albums, good or bad, reveal how each individual wants to reintroduce themselves to the public, and how they’re attempting the complicated leap from adolescent pop star to independent adult artist.
Now that Louis Tomlinson has dropped his first solo album, every former One Direction member has released at least one solo project. (Harry and Zayn have each released two.) And there are some very clear winners and losers among them. Here’s how they stack up against each other and what each one tells us about who these boys are now that they’ve spent some time apart.
Winner: Fine Line by Harry Styles
Watching Harry emerge triumphantly, hair and culottes billowing, with the title of Most Popular and Critically Acclaimed Ex-One Direction Member is not unlike watching a long-awaited prophecy finally fall into place. Ever since One Direction first stepped into the international limelight, interviews and press circuits saw that Harry was different from his fellow bandmates. He was offbeat but cool, disheveled but sexy.
And in 2017, when he released his debut album named — what else? — Harry Styles, Harry established himself as worthy of all the hype from his years in the band. A brooding rock record filled with anecdotes about all the sex he has and heartbreak he’s felt, Harry Styles reintroduced Harry to the world as an indie songwriter, David Bowie fanboy, and charismatic lover. And with his next, more experimental 2019 album, Harry takes all these elements of his identity a step further, securing his spot in the popular music landscape as a modern rock star.
Harry released Fine Line at the end of last year, interrupting winter’s dreariness with bright, dancey songs about all-consuming yearning. The lyrics of “Adore You” and “Watermelon Sugar” conjure images of summer fruits and summer loves, and both songs set the perfect soundtrack for encountering a crush at a party, or at least fending off seasonal depression. And on “Cherry,” his transportive and melancholy ode to an ex, listeners get a glimpse at genuine heartache from Harry. Despite having built a career out of belting love songs, Harry has never before sounded this vulnerable in his music before. “Cherry” shines a light on the vulnerabilities of a seemingly invulnerable star and brings a touching depth to Harry’s music that was previously absent. Fine Line is the most adventurous and enjoyable of the One Direction members’ solo efforts, and it’s sure to convert even the most crotchety boy band skeptics into believers.
Winner: Flicker by Niall Horan
As a member of One Direction, Niall was beloved — but not for being the band’s breakout star or its scene-stealing performer or even its biggest personality. Niall’s greatest charm, and the primary allure of his 2017 album Flicker, is instead seeming like an ordinary, likable guy. The human embodiment of a chill night in, Niall projects affable, regular-guy energy, but in a more palatable way than, say, Ed Sheeran. He’s a man who, after being part of the most popular boy band this side of the millennia, can still convincingly seem like he’s bemused by his fame and wealth. Niall likes Nando’s, and he likes to golf on the weekends. It’s easy to imagine him as one of those people with the uncanny ability to put horses at ease simply by murmuring the dulcet opening bars of his hit single “This Town” and running his guitar-worn hands over their hides.
Niall brings this same aura of safety and coziness to Flicker, where he strums his acoustic guitar and sings earnestly about the mundane highs and lows of falling in love. His songs are emotionally and musically safe — the most upbeat tracks, “On the Loose” and “Slow Hands,” still retain a mellow, unhurried cadence, and sad songs like “Paper Houses” veer away from raw grief or anguish, opting instead for lyrics that just barely skim the surface of sorrow.
Is it always good when an artist’s best quality is being inoffensive and never taking risks? No, but perhaps in the swirling political and social chaos of 2020, it’s what we need. Niall is a calming lighthouse in the stormy sea of life, and we would be fools to let him out of our sight.
Loser: Icarus Falls by Zayn Malik
Writer Allison P. Davis once described Zayn as someone who “sings about sex like it’s this thing he just heard about on a Jodeci song.” It’s this image of Zayn that echoes in my mind whenever I think about his couple’s photoshoot with model Gigi Hadid, or the boyish pirate-themed pub in his backyard, or his many, many selfies featuring a tortured grimace and 5 o’clock shadow. Despite his reputation for being the quiet, mysterious band member, in his post-One Direction career, Zayn has revealed both his passion for sensual R&B, as well as a powerful lack of convincing sexual energy.
Davis’s one-sentence character study is also a devastatingly apt summary of Zayn’s second album, which came out in 2018. At nearly an hour and a half, Icarus Falls is a boring, corny exploration of what happens when a too-handsome man ensconces himself in cologne and longing. Chock full of weak lyrics (e.g. “That’s how I feel the soul inside her body”) and dull, forgettable beats, the album has neither the playfulness nor sufficient melancholy to breathe life into Zayn’s sensual aspirations, and the end result is unrewarding.
The disappointment of Icarus Falls is worsened by the fact that Zayn’s debut album, Mind of Mine, was so much better. Mind of Mine’s intriguing blasé attitude was an exciting change of pace from Zayn’s demeanor in One Direction, when he was obligated to sing very un-blasé songs like “What Makes You Beautiful.” Although the 2016 record also frequently stumbled when it intended to seduce, it showed signs of artistic promise that make Icarus Falls seem like dull anticlimax, with a mere two exceptions. “Let Me” and “Entertainer” are soothing tracks in which Zayn vows to shower his lover in devotion and luxury items, and they’re the only songs that come close to the groovy fun of his last album. For listeners who are unable to let go of Zayn’s undeniable vocal chops and moody flair (me), these quality songs are exasperating reminders that Zayn is wasting his potential as well as everyone else’s time.
Loser: LP1 by Liam Payne
For many years, Liam seemed poised to stay in the “normal guy” lane with Niall, often playing the band’s cheerful jokester in music videos and interviews. Because of his jovial stage presence and photogenic, symmetrical face, many people — Liam included — thought he would follow the footsteps of another boy band pop mogul, Justin Timberlake. Recently, however, Liam’s public personality has begun to curdle slightly, in the form of controversial Instagram posts about his personal wealth, dating and impregnating the judge at his X Factor audition, and regrettable jewelry he calls the “Payne Chain.” Today, Liam seems less like a new Timberlake and more like a second-rate Bieber.
Liam’s debut album LP1, released in December 2019, follows a similarly cringy trajectory. Boosted by Chainsmoker-esque beats and sleazy lines about “[doing] your ass in the car,” Liam’s music is a bold statement separating himself from the sound of One Direction, but it’s not for the better. At one particularly low point, he leers at and fetishizes his partner’s bisexuality in the song “Both Ways.” But even on tracks without pointedly offensive lyrics, Liam’s bravado comes off as corny, and he fails to utilize his sonorous voice’s full strength. Each song on LP1 sounds like a mishmash assembly of smash hit ingredients, but the final product can’t quite stick the landing, and songs blur together in a haze of tropical synth and repetitive melody.
It’s not all bad, though. Tasteless songs aside, it’s hard not to listen to LP1 without admiring Liam’s unwavering audacity. Not everyone has the bulwark of confidence required to sing lyrics like, “I just wanna have fun and get rowdy / One Coke and Bacardi, sipping lightly,” or release a song called “Hips Don’t Lie” that’s neither a Shakira cover nor good. While this album is not the radio-ready bop collection that Liam was perhaps hoping it would be, LP1 is, above all else, unapologetic about what it is.
Loser: Walls by Louis Tomlinson
In a recent interview with the Guardian, Louis says, “[Niall’s] the most lovely guy in the world … Zayn has a fantastic voice … Harry comes across very cool. Liam’s all about getting the crowd going, doing a bit of dancing … And then there’s me.”
Louis’s self-deprecating remarks reflect the popular perception of him as the forgettable, “other” member of One Direction. Sadly, his same failure to assert himself as a unique public figure and musician is the downfall of his album Walls, which struggles to sound memorable despite being the solo album that most closely resembles One Direction’s former sound.
Louis is the last member of One Direction to release a solo album, largely because he put off recording music for an extended amount of time after the death of his mother and sister in 2016 and 2019, respectively. Given this context, it’s not surprising that Louis’s music is steeped in solemnity, whether he’s nostalgic for an old relationship on “Too Young,” or openly grieving the loss of his family on “Two of Us.”
Unfortunately, Walls feels like a confessional series of diary entries set to drums and tinny acoustic guitar, and while the frank intimacy is a refreshing contrast to, say, Liam, ultimately the album feels lackluster and sonically generic. Soft guitar and even softer vocals accompany lyrics about longing — for someone, a feeling, a moment in the past — making Walls feel like a pale imitation of One Direction’s booming rock-inspired pop rather than an entity of its own. In his first attempt to separate himself musically from the group, Louis once again blends into the background.
Not everyone is better off alone [insert pun about One Direction becoming Many Directions].
The transition from boy band member to adult man solo artist is not an easy one. The scramble to assert oneself as a legitimate, relevant musician can be full of pressure, and not everyone walks away with equal amounts of fame and success. In the case of One Direction, the majority of these underwhelming solo efforts suggest that, as much as the members have striven to express their individuality, their biggest legacy will probably be being part of a group. (Unless we’re talking about Harry Styles, that is.)

Before I Dive... Chapter 25
Amy climbed the stairs to Richard’s flat, as instructed to do after her final class. Reaching his door, she stopped and smiled at the rose taped to the door. She froze as she opened the door, her breath stolen as she noticed the candles and rose petals on the floor forming arrows.
She slipped out of her flats, leaving them by the door as she closed it and set her purse and bag on the entryway table. She followed the arrows to the bathroom, where she found a steaming bath scented with something spicy, cinnamon, and something sweet, vanilla? Another sticky note on the mirror instructed her to relax and enjoy.
Amy slowly disrobed, testing the heat of the water before slowly sinking in, letting her hair hang over the edge of the tub. She didn’t know how long she’d soaked when she heard the door open. She cracked open one eye to see Richard creeping into the bathroom. He knocked her back with his easy smile.
“You look relaxed,” he said softly.
“I think I just reached the limp noodle stage,” Amy giggled, closing her eye.
She didn’t hear anything else so she opened her eyes to see Richard kneeling next to the tub. She furrowed her brows slightly.
“Sit up,” he said gently.
She slowly leaned forward. Richard gathered her hair up into a ponytail, wrapping a band around it a few times. She went to lay back, but his hand stopped her. She glanced over at him as he picked up a large sponge and dunked it into the water. Her eyes fluttered closed as he gently rubbed the sponge over her back. She groaned as he applied enough pressure to ease any tension in her back.
Richard gently eased Amy’s arm out of the water, gently resting it on the edge of the tub. After he ran the sponge up and down her arm, he kissed her shoulder as he returned her arm to the water. He reached across and washed her other arm.
“What is this all for?” Amy whispered as the sponge trailed across her collarbones.
“This is me taking care of you,” he replied.
He noted her almost imperceptible nod, holding her neck as he helped her lean back. He shifted on his knees slightly as he began to focus on her legs. He let the sponge float in the water as his fingers pressed and kneaded her feet.
“Okay, definitely limp noodle stage,” she whispered, a small grin on her face. “Nearing Jello.”
He smiled as he took the sponge and scrubbed her legs, moving up to her stomach. He rubbed the sponge in small circles around her stomach. Her hands moved to meet his, guiding them up to her breasts. He circled the sponge over each breast before letting the sponge go and gently caressing her breasts with his hands.
Amy started when she heard a beeping from the kitchen, splashing Richard and making him laugh. She relaxed when Richard gently placed his hand on her shoulder.
“Dinner will be ready when you get out,” he said softly, leaning in to kiss her. “Take your time.”
Amy watched as he stood, grabbing a towel to dry off his arms as he left the bathroom. She lingered for a few more minutes, taking out the messy bun and dunking her head before pulling the stopper with her toes. As she stood, she noted fondly he’d set out one of his shirts and a pair of boxers for her.
Richard smiled as Amy stepped out of the bathroom, towel-drying her hair. She froze, sniffing the air. He hurried over to her as her hands flew to her mouth and her knees buckled.
“How...that’s...if that’s what...what I think it is…”
He bundled her in his arms as tears started rolling down her cheeks. She tried to slow her crying by taking deep breaths. He rubbed her back, trying to comfort her. She finally took a deep breath, leaning back to wipe her eyes.
“How on earth did you get my mom’s sloppy joe recipe?” she whispered, looking up at him.
“I called her. I asked her what I could do or make for you that might make you less homesick,” he said, kissing her forehead.
She looked up at him, fingers creeping up to brush his cheek. “You might officially be the best boyfriend ever.”
“Can I mention that I had to go to 4 different stores to find those scoop things?” he said, turning his head to brush her fingers with his lips.
“You got Fritos Scoops?” she asked, jumping into his arms and wrapping her legs around his waist. “You seriously bought me Frito Scoops to go with my sloppy joes?”
He laughed as she started kissing him all over his face. She finally slowed down, catching his lips in a long gentle kiss. His arms held tight as her feet made contact with the floor again. She wrapped her arms around his waist, leaning her head on his chest.
“Yes, I was specifically instructed to find those particular crisps, no substitutions,” he said, kissing the top of her head. “Happy birthday.”
“You didn't have to do all this,” she said.
“I did. Nothing is too much for the woman I'm falling for.” He took her hands and made eye contact with her, before kissing her knuckles.
He led her over to the table, pulling out her chair before sitting down across from her. He took the lid off the casserole dish, laughing when Amy leaned forward and inhaled deeply, a content smile forming on her face. She took a chip out of the basket on the table and dipped it into the steaming mixture. His eyes watched her lips as she blew on it before tentatively taking a bite. She closed her eyes, the smile slowly growing on her face as she put the rest of the corn chip in her mouth.
“And?” he asked.
Amy had a sly look in her eyes when she opened them. “It’s awful. I can’t allow you to eat this. It wouldn’t be right. I have to eat all of it so you’re not subject to how horrible this tastes.”
Richard laughed, taking her hand across the table. She pulled it up to her mouth and kissed his knuckles.
“It’s absolutely perfect,” she whispered. “And just what I needed.”
“Anything for my girl,” he replied. “I’m just glad to see you feeling better.”
“Well, you see, there’s this guy I’m falling for,” she said, scooping out another bit of sloppy joe. “Deeper every day it seems.”
“Alexa, play most recent station on Spotify,” Richard said, taking a hamburger bun out of the bag for himself.
He laughed when Amy took the basket of corn chips and set it on her plate before she started scooping out sloppy joe one chip at a time.
She is the sweetest thing that I know
You should see the way she holds me when the lights go low
Shakes my soul like a pothole, every time
Amy glanced over at Richard, sitting there watching her eat. She shoved her next chip into her mouth. “Do I have something on my face?” she asked with her mouth full.
Took my heart upon a one way trip
Guess she went wandering off with it
Unlike most women I know
This one will bring it back whole
Daisies, daisies perched upon your forehead
Oh my baby, lately I know
She giggled when Richard leaned across the table and kissed her.
“No. I got it,” he whispered, eyes focusing on his meal after a moment.
“I like that much better than napkins,” Amy breathed, tucking her hair behind her ear as she turned pink.
That every night I'll kiss you you'll say in my ear
Oh we're in love aren't we?
Hands in your hair, fingers and thumbs baby
I feel safe when you're holding me near
Love the way that you conquer your fear
You know hearts don't break around here
Oh yeah yeah yeah , yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
“You know, I do believe that's the first time in a long time that I got you flustered,” he chuckled, leaning back in his chair. “I don't think I realized how much I missed it.”
He laughed harder as she reddened, ducking her head.
She is the river flow in Orwell
And tin wind chimes used for doorbells
Fields and trees and her smell, fill my lungs
Spent my summer time beside her
And the rest of the year the same
She is the flint that sparks the lighter
And the fuel that will hold the flame
Oh roses roses laid upon your bed spread
Oh my, hold this, oh this, I know
“Imagine the sounds your sisters would have made if they'd been here,” he teased.
“I never should have gotten you three together,” Amy sighed with a smirk. “You will plot against me at every turn.”
“Who says we haven't already?” he asked, raising an eyebrow as he tilted his head toward a changing screen near the balcony door.
That every night I'll kiss you you'll say in my ear
Oh we're in love aren't we?
Hands in your hair, fingers and thumbs baby
I feel safe when you're holding me near
Love the way that you conquer your fear
You know hearts don't break around here
Oh yeah yeah yeah
Amy looked over at the screen and then back at Richard. “What did you do?” she whispered, her brow furrowing.
“Why don't you go look?”
Amy tentatively stood from her chair, approaching the screen with quiet steps, glancing back at Richard over her shoulder. She peeked around the screen and gasped.
Well I found love in the inside
The arms of a woman I know
She is the lighthouse in the night that will safely guide me home
And I'm not scared of passing over
Or the thought of growing old
'Cause from now until I go
Her hands flew to her mouth, backing away from the screen, bumping into Richard who had come up behind her.
“How...no...it's...too much,” she cried, turning to bury her face in his shirt.
“It's not,” he chided, lifting her chin so she looked at him.
He slowly guided her around the screen, pulling out a chair for her to sit.
Every night I'll kiss you you'll say in my ear
Oh we're in love aren't we?
Hands in your hair, fingers and thumbs baby
I feel safe when you're holding me near
Love the way that you conquer your fear
You know hearts don't break around here
Oh yeah yeah
Amy shook her head, fingers ghosting over the cinnamon wood of the small roll-top desk she'd lusted over at the vintage store, knowing her sisters and Richard definitely plotted this.
“I know how much this cost,” she whispered, tears streaming down her still rosy cheeks. “It's too much.”
Richard sat in the chair and eased Amy into his lap. He reached over and opened the lid of the desk, revealing a leather-bound notebook and a fountain pen. He stopped Amy when she tried to close the desk.
Every night I'll kiss you you'll say in my ear
Oh we're in love aren't we?
Hands in your hair, fingers and thumbs baby
I feel safe when you're holding me near
Love the way that you conquer your fear
You know hearts don't break around here
Oh yeah yeah
“It's not too much,” he told her, turning her face to look at him. “All of this was such a small price compared to my birthday present.”
“I gave you a bracelet for your birthday,” she replied.
“How quickly you forget. My present is sitting in my lap,” he reminded her. “You picked up your life to move here and be with me. I can buy you a 500 desk for your birthday present.”
“I can't accept this,” she whispered, hands running over the smooth wood. “I can't top this.”
“Are you worried about buying me something equal to this?”
She leaned into his hand as he reached up to wipe a tear that escaped her eye. She nodded after a moment, hands busy testing the small drawers.
“How about we don't call this your present? What if the notebook and pen are your present?” he said after a moment.
“Then what is the desk?” she asked, her brow furrowing with worry.
He turned her face towards him, brushing his lips against hers. “An investment,” he answered after a moment, lips moving to smooth the creases in her brow. “Like you invested in me. In us.”
Amy cupped his face and kissed him. “You do realize you paid for the plane ticket that got me here, right?”
Richard laughed, head dropping back. “No, I suppose I never realized that. But I'm glad I did. That's beside the point, though. You've already given so much of yourself. You deserve this.”
Amy stared at him, her expression unreadable, long enough to make Richard feel uncomfortable. Her fingers came up, brushing his jaw.
“You can't possibly be this perfect,” she finally whispered.
“I often leave the toilet seat up,” he offered before tenderly brushing his lips against hers. “I alphabetize my condiments. I can burp the alphabet through H. I do occasionally hog the covers.”
Amy giggled, pressing a finger to his lips. “Thank you,” she breathed.
“Well, this isn't everything. There's one more part, but you'll have to wait for Kit's fancy dress party next week.”
“Fancy dress?” Amy groaned, leaning her forehead on Richard's shoulder. “Like I can afford some gown for a fancy party.” She looked up when Richard laughed. “What?”
“Fancy dress is how we say costume party,” he explained. “It's for Halloween.”
Amy blushed, making Richard laugh harder. He kissed her forehead, before nudging her.
“Hey,” he whispered.
“What?” she asked, embarrassment creeping into her voice as she met his eyes.
“Happy birthday.”
Amy kicked out of her heels, getting them in the general location of the hallway table, one thudding off the wall as she plunked down her purse and phone. She bristled when Richard moved past her to the bedroom silently. She stalked after him.
“What?” she asked, watching him hang up his jacket.
“What?” he parroted.
“What is your problem?”
He turned, pausing as he untucked his shirt. Amy stood there, hands on her hips, drawing attention back to her red wrap dress and silver bra.
“Glad of you to notice me,” he grumbled, starting to unbutton his shirt.
“Notice you? You’re glad I...” she huffed. “This from the man who disappeared with his ex-girlfriend for over an hour and a half.”
She turned and made her way to the bathroom, turning on the tap so she could take off her make-up. She looked up when Richard spun her around by her arm.
“And when I came back, you had your chest in Sam’s face,” he growled. “Sitting on his leg, patting his cheek, doing everything but have sex right there at the booth.”
“Now wait just a minute.” Amy yanked her arm back. “First of all, you liked this outfit when you picked me up. Nothing about it changed over the course of the evening.”
“Except you giving Lily’s younger brother his fill of your boobs!”
“He wasn't looking at my boobs!”
“No? Sure seemed like they were at eye level when you were on his lap! Don't quite know how you ended up there.”
“Because Matt spilled his drink on my seat, which you would have known had you been around. Sam saved me from sitting in it! If you’d bothered paying attention, I was sitting on the very edge of his knee. And we were talking about you! About what you're working on and how great you've been to me! I think if anyone has the right to be angry or jealous, it's me!” she yelled, pushing him back until he tumbled over the back of the couch.
Richard quickly jumped up only to be knocked back again by Amy.
“You disappeared during the most uncomfortable experience of my life! Did you not think I wouldn’t notice? I prayed for you to come back. I didn't want to intrude, maybe you and Jenna had something you needed to discuss, but damn. 90 minutes? Even I can't help but get suspicious!”
“I was only with her for about 10,” he said quietly, his eyes dropping to her bare feet.
“Even worse!” she cried, black tears tracking down her face. “You left me to watch that… that spectacle of... of...debauchery! No text, no call, nothing! Sam could see I was uncomfortable and tried to distract me! What the hell were you doing?”
Richard reached over to wipe her tears, but she flinched away from him. He sighed, turning to pace.
“I was trying to calm down. Jenna always knew what to say to get under my skin.” He sat down, scrubbing a hand over his face. “Tonight was no exception.”
“Did you know she was coming?”
Richard looked up at the quiver in her voice. Amy still looked coiled, ready to pounce, but her expression had softened.
“No,” he said, shaking his head. “No.”
“What did she say?”
Amy sat down at the other end of the couch. Richard leaned forward, resting his arms on his legs.
“It's not important.”
“You leave me watching a guy fuck a pig snout or whatever the hell that shit was, come back to me reeking like a chimney, you can tell me what she said that got you so fucking upset,” Amy snapped.
She watched the emotions play out on Richard's face as he stared out the balcony door. She angrily wiped her eyes, smearing mascara on her cheeks.
“She said,” he started, but his voice faltered, “she said she wasn't aware that I was attracted to American trash, let alone willing to seriously date it.”
He felt Amy stiffen next to him, turning to look at her. He saw her small hands curl into fists as she breathed deeply through her nose.
“And I told her I threw out the trash when I found her doing more than just running lines with her co-star. And that you were 10 times the woman she is.”
Amy turned to look at him with wide eyes that overflowed with tears as he continued.
“It still upset me, got me unnerved, so I stayed outside, trying to calm down, giving her a bit of time to say hello to Matt. I told her this was also your birthday party, and she would be the one leaving. Not you.”
“If I ever see that bitch…” she gritted out.
“You won't,” he said, cupping her cheek. “And if you do, I will deal with her.”
“Not if I get to her first.”
Richard gave a soft smile at Amy’s low growl.
Amy sniffed his hand, making a face. “Your hands reek. What did you do, smoke an entire pack?” she teased. She frowned as his face fell.
“And maybe bummed a few as well.”
Amy shook her head. “I just meant you need to wash your hands after.”
“No. It's a bad coping mechanism,” he sighed. “Didn't solve anything.”
“You really told her she was trash?” Amy asked quietly, examining their hands as his fingers interlocked with hers.
“Well, rubbish, but yeah,” Richard chuckled as Amy kissed him softly. “I'm sorry.”
“Me too,” she replied.
Richard knocked on the bathroom door. “Babe, you're not the only one who has to get ready.”
Amy cracked open the door, releasing a cloud of sweet chemicals. “Yeah, but this is a lot harder since they discontinued Aqua Net.”
Richard laughed at the hair flopping over her face. Amy blew them out of her face, turning back to the mirror. He came in behind her, sticking his head under the tap to wet his hair.
“Alright, plan B.”
He turned to see Amy start braiding a section of her hair into a small braid. He turned his attention back to his hair, running some gel through it before reaching over and grabbing Amy’s large round brush. He saw her eyes dart over to watch him start blow-drying his hair into a pompadour. He could have sworn she licked her lips but when he looked, she'd started running her flat iron over the braid.
Amy knew she had to focus on her hair so she didn't burn it off, but he had to know what he was doing to her. For some reason, she found his pompadour infinitely sexy. She yelped, burning her fingers when she ran her flat iron into them. She set down the iron and started spraying the braid with hairspray.
Richard watched as she slowly started undoing the braid, her hair hanging in tight crimps. He laughed when she nodded and started braiding another section.
“So the 80s?” he asked, turning off the dryer.
“I'm just going along with Lily’s plan. I gave her free reign because I didn't even want anything. She insisted.”
Amy held the end of the braid and ran her flat iron over it. She glanced over as Richard worked some pomade through his hair.
“Am I dessert?” he asked with a smirk.
“Main course,” she replied, blushing.
Richard laughed out loud, wiping his hands with a towel. He kissed Amy’s cheek, gagging when she accidentally sprayed him in the mouth.
“Sorry!” she apologized. She quickly filled a glass with water and handed it to him.
“Great aim,” he chuckled after he rinsed his mouth. “I'll get out of your way.”
Amy grabbed him by his t-shirt, pulling him down for a long slow kiss. She curled her fingers into the cotton to resist running them through his hair. Richard pulled back slowly, eyes remaining closed a second. Amy pecked him on the lips one more time before turning back to the mirror.
“We've got about an hour before we need to go,” he told her as he backed out. “Try not to use the whole bottle of hairspray.”
“But that wouldn't be authentic 80s,” Amy giggled.
