You know what is an absolute shame, that queen of tears had all the potential to be so so great. All it would have taken was a little more writing comprehension and understanding that a story doesn't need 50 something plot points, everyone would have tuned in for just baekhong and them navigating the complexities of marriage, dealing with their families, and dealing with the potential loss of life, and the way two people can be so destined for each other, fine they could have had villains but the villain didn't need to be a one dimensional character that had such plot armour throughout the show to the point that the main female character who has such intellect in all other moments somehow loses it around him just so we can entertain mediocre moments of ridiculousness, at the very least focus could have been placed on one villain, instead we have some deranged execution of mommy/son issues that had such potential but was just wasted and it's the way this drama feels like it's insulting my intellect that really just gets to me.

With that said, I still think baekhong is precious and that no drama has had characters like them before but I really think that it isn't even the writing anymore, it's that soohyun and jiwon have given this story their all and watching them has been a treat because they bring out the best parts of baekhong while the writer runs around in circles.

You know one thing that truly was a happy surprise in Queen of Tears? Hyun Woo's friendships and the loyalty they carried.

I've seen a lot of people praising Secretary Na but you also have to acknowledge that Hyun Woo has some really amazing and steadfast friends.

At the start of the show, all his friends were playing the russian roulette of who will handle his divorce case. It was given that it will be one of them, it was also given that they will have to withstand the might of the entire Hong family, which isn't something anyone can survive. But. Although they were scared, they didn't drop it or flee to save their career. They understood that it was something you do for your friend, even if you want to kill the said friend for putting you in the situation. There was also the scene where Yang Ki legitimately wanted to flee in the face of Vincenzo as opposing attorney, but just cursed and went after Hyun Woo. He was really scared of the situation and wanted to be anywhere but there but refrained from fleeing only to support his friend. Then there is also the scene where all his three friends come as his attorney to defend Hyun Woo in the company's hearing for malpractice case. They combined all their specialization to figure out something to get him out of the situation. This is specially monumental because we can see in the show, how every friend or family member related to the Hong's abandoned them in the time of need. Them still sticking with Hyun Woo while he is in middle of such scandal says a lot about them and how much they value loyalty. Yes, there were times where we wanted to bash Yang Ki's head for straying Hyun Woo when it came to Hae In but he did come through as a true friend what with him helping Hyun Woo all the time throughout the investigation.

It's a refreshing counterpoint to the negativity that often surrounds Hyun Woo. In a world where self-interest seems to reign supreme, his friends demonstrate the power of genuine loyalty.

The singer, who was previously signed to RCA Records, has a new single coming "very soon this summer." ZAYN has signed a new record deal with Mercury Records, Billboard can confirm. Along with the news, the singer wiped his social media yesterday and has launched a new pre-save link and teaser in preparation for his Mercury Records debut single, which is said by the label to be arriving “very soon this summer.” A former member of One Direction and a chart topper in his own right, ZAYN was previously signed to RCA Records. Sources close to the singer told Billboard that the new music ZAYN is making marks a major departure from the sound that defined his previous hits like “PILLOWTALK” and “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever.” Label president Tyler Arnold says of the deal, “As soon as ZAYN and I met, I knew we had to work together. I was blown away by the new music, but just as impressed by his vision, drive and spirit. We’re honored he and his team have joined us at Mercury Records. We’ve got an incredible opportunity to tell the next chapter of his story together.” Mercury Records was relaunched in April 2022 as a U.S. imprint of Republic Records, helmed by Arnold and Ben Adelson as president and general manager, respectively. absolutely obsessed with the way queen of tears is written.

it's a black comedy, it's a satire of the wealthy, it's a critique of patriarchy, it's a love story, it's a hate story, it's a terminal illness story, it's a melodrama, it's a work place drama, it's a makjang, it's a grey character enabler, it's a gaslight girboss gatekeep promoter.

The world is annoyingly beautiful so of course I want to live.

Hyunwoo and Haein's conversation at her Grandfather's funeral is such a reflective, thoughtful, calm pause amongst everything that's going on. She's truthfully telling him so openly that she wants to live. She's talking about her fear of being all alone, of passing into the unknown. All her emotions have led her to see the world, even during an affair as sad and gloomy as a funeral, as beautiful. 

I also love that Hyunwoo has no words to comfort her. He's taking in what she's saying and despite promising her 'You'll live, I'll make sure of it' He knows deep down how helpless he really is. How glum things really look for her. 

I think it also show that support doesn't always mean comforting words. Sometimes it's someone who loves you failing at hiding their tears because they don't want you to see how utterly sad they are. It's them silently being there for you. Offering you their hand for support. That you can lean on them. That they're there for you in your sadness.

I also love how Hae-in very readily accepts his hand. It's her way of telling him 'No matter how much you hide it I know... I know how sad this makes you. You can rely on me through it all as long as I'm here, as long as I can'

And at the end when Hyunwoo refuses to look at her lest he give in to the tears threatening to fall from his eyes, Haein gives him a look. A beautiful smile adorned on her face she looks at him adoringly as if screaming:

'You and your love are annoyingly beautiful as well, so of course I want to live.'

It's painful for both of them. They're trying not to show it for each others sake lest they give into despair but they're both so devasted.

I hadn't seen Soul Mate for a couple of weeks due to vacations and timings not aligning, so he was my first stop for our coordinated in-person day.

He spent a solid hour letting me chat and catch up. He loves teasing me about the same thing, he is a total loser that I'm fond of, and he had my LOLing as we talked about Growing Fond too.

It was also an opportunity for me to candidly make some points on what I perceive as some significant character differences and he listened.

During vacation, one douche actually did leave, after she realized the main douche was treating her the exact same way she treated me, so the main douche is now doing all the work she was using the other to do. She acts like we are friends..we are NOT.

Anyways, Soul Mate had some off-site meetings so we coordinated our travel home, and he even waited for me which delayed him getting home just so we could travel together.

I made it worthwhile by telling him a story I knew he'd be able to make fun of me for, which he did

Interestingly, he was talking to his wife while waiting for me, and when I got near he wrapped up the call. It didn't seem like it was anything of significance that he couldn't talk about in front of me, but I appreciate that he gives whoever he is with his full attention.

It's something I am now working on because of him.
