Togoville jazz festival paid tribute to African women
Togoville jazz festival paid tribute to African women
The 8th edition of the Togoville jazz festival has ended after hosting more than 30 concerts over two weeks, featuring artists from Lomé to Agbodrafo and of course Togoville. The forum has become essential for musicians and groups from all over Togo but also from Africa and even Europe. This year the organisers paid tribute…Togoville jazz festival paid tribute to African women

Top 5 Destinations in Togo
One of the most common things you hear in Togo, especially among expats, is that there’s “nothing to do.” But the truth is, there are lots of fun adventures to be had and some really amazing sites to see. You just have to be willing to spend a little time on the road to get to them. With that in mind, below is my list of the top five tourist destinations in Togo.
5. Lake Togo: Lake Togo lies less than an hour from Lome on the road to Benin. The lake is 15 km long and 10 km wide, and empties out into the Atlantic Ocean at Aneho. On the northern shore of Lake Togo is the town of Togoville. The country of Togo got its name from Togoville, because it was there in 1884 that the Germans signed a treaty with the chief of the village to establish a protectorate over the country. Most travel across the lake is done by canoe. Taking a canoe taxi from Agbodrafo across the lake to Togoville can be a fun experience! Lake Togo is also a great place for water sports. At O’Lodge, a resort and waterpark on the south shore, you can rent kayaks, sailboats, and paddle boats and explore the lake. Motorboat tours are also available.

4. Koutammakou: Also known as the land of the Batammariba people, Koutammakou is a cultural landscape designated as a UNESCO world heritage site. It is located in northern Togo, about two hours north of Kara. The Batammariba community extends across the border into Benin. Koutammakou is famous for its traditional dwellings. The architecture of these structures has a sacred meaning that is informed by the relationship between the people, the ancestors, and nature. It is probably best to go with a guide, but if not there is is a decent museum that explains many of the cultural traditions. The highlight of the visit - at least for my kids - was going into a humongous hollowed-out baobab tree. In ancient times, the Batammariba people would hide inside the tree when invaders arrived. It can hold, no joke, like 100 people.

3. Djamde Forest and Sarakawa Game Park: Combine these two and you get one of the best nature-viewing experiences in Togo. Sarakawa Game Park is located about 45 minutes northeast of Kara. For a modest fee you can take a safari through the park and see loads of animals such as Kudu, Zebras, and Wildebeests. But don’t expect to see lions and tigers like you would on a safari in East Africa. It’s way more modest than that. Still fun though. South of the park across the Kara River is the forest of Djamde. The forest has a ranger station where they keep three imported elephants. If you have only ever seen an elephant in a zoo and want to get right up close to one, this is your chance. During one visit my friend got uncomfortably mushed against a wall by one of the playful elephants - exciting! The best and easiest way to see both Djamde and Sarakawa is to stay at Campement Sara, a lodge situated right on a bend in the Kara River. From the lodge, you can take a canoe across the river and hike through the forest until you reach the elephant enclosure.

2. Kpalime: Kpalime, two hours from Lome on the border with Ghana, is one of Togo’s prettiest areas. The town has a kind of artsy, bohemian vibe (lots of Rastas selling batik clothes and wood carvings) and there are several nice hotels and good restaurants. But the real attraction of Kpalime is the landscape. There are half a dozen major waterfalls to visit (see my previous blog post), and it can also be fun just to rent a bicycle and go cruising around through the fields and villages. Other great activities include a visit to the Chateau Viale (a mansion in the jungle built 80 years ago by a Frenchman to impress his wife, which totally didn’t work); a forest walk in the village of Kouma to learn about cocoa, coffee, and plants with medicinal properties; or a visit to “bat valley” where at 6 pm every night thousands of bats fill the sky. You can definitely fill an action-packed long weekend with a visit to Kpalime. Our favorite place to stay is the Parc Residence hotel, just at the base of the road leading into the Missahoe Forest. Great pool, good food, and wonderful staff!

1. Dapaong: Although it is probably the least visited part of the country because of its distance from Lome (at least a 10 hour drive), Dapaong wins my vote for the best destination in Togo. In rainy season the landscape is as pretty as I’ve seen anywhere in the world, with lush green fields surrounded by a towering mountain range. Hotel Le Campement is a great home base in Dapaong town, with cold beers and good food. An hour and a half drive from town will bring you to the village of Nagou, located on top of a massive sheer cliff. This is where you will find the Caves of Nok. Nok means hidden in Moba, the local language and the name of the people who live in the area. During the 18th and 19th centuries, a neighboring ethnic group, the Tchokossi, would attack the Moba and kidnap their people to trade to European slave traders for guns and horses. The Moba protected themselves by building defensive dwellings hidden in the red rocks of the cliffs below their village. When they saw the Tchokossi coming, the people would climb down the cliffs on vines to hide in the caves. They made huge clay jars to store grain and water, which allowed them to stay hidden for days. All this you can see with your own eyes because the site is well preserved. It’s an adventure to climb down the cliff face (there is a ladder now, no vines, thankfully!), and explore the caves. It’s also worth the trip just for the astounding view of the landscape from on top of the cliff. You feel like you can see all the way to the ocean. So for all these reasons, Dapaong is definitely worth the trip. My only word caution is that you should make your trip there during the rainy season months (June - November). After that it gets uncomfortably hot, dry, and dusty in that part of Togo.

MAISON DES ESCLAVES

. Happy Sunday to you all. One thing I've learnt from travelling is to sometimes keep quiet and just observe. Observe the greenery on your drive to the lake, observe the plants on your hiking trip, observe the architecture, the way the locals walk, talk and even drive. These things say more about the country you are visiting. This helps you know and understand them more... #lakeside #wanderlustfulsights 🇬🇭 #whereistand #travelwriter #travel #travelgram #travelblogger #wanderlust #ilovetravel #writetotravel #travelstroke #travelling #traveltheworld #igtravel #getaway #travelblog #travelphoto #travels #traveller #traveler #travelersnotebook #travelbug #postcardsaroundtheworld #photo #photoofday #travelpics #Togo #lake #WestAfrica #Africa (at Agbodrafo (Porto-Séguro), Aného, Togo)

Visa free African Countries for Ghanaian Citizens ------------- Togo – My readers and followers know the mad love I have for Togo. This place is like a second home to me as I have friends over there and I also enjoy the nightlife, hospitality and their cuisine. I must also add that it is cheaper to live in Lome than Accra. If you are a foodie looking to treat your taste buds with some out delicious delicacies, then this city is for you. You will fall in love with their amazing baguette sandwich, delicious seafood meals and wowzer pizzas. Though these meals are mostly at hotel restaurants, they are rather very affordable. Togo is about a 2 hour or more drive from Accra and it is visa free. The minute, you get past the Ghana / Togo border, you are met with the beautiful clean beaches of Lome. Here is a list of things I can vouch for in Togo and things I intend to try out; For meals: you have to try out Le Patio (amazing pizza), Le Philippat (yummy seafood meals), Le Phenicien (Lebanese dishes, pastries and icecream); Alt Munchen, L’Annexe, Restaurant Mini-Brasserie, Barakouda, Le Gallion, La Main a la Pate, La Bella Luna etc.For a swim or a walk on the beach: Pure Plage Hotel (beach and pool); O Lodge (pool, waterslide, boatrides, Lake Togo and horseback rides); Le Patio (pool); Marcelo Beach, Hotel Palm Beach, Radisson Ble Fevrier etc.Drink and dancing: Beach Café, La Villa, Le Mandigue Jazz Club, Tshaka Tshaka Lounge, Le Privilege,Excursions: Pome, Kpalime, Aneho, Sokode, Tsevie, Tamberma, Agbodrafo, Lake Togo, Lome, Kara, etc.Shopping: Secondhand market (Hedzranawoe); Grande Marche; Akodessewa Fetish Market (for those interested in the voodoo culture).Transportation: cabs or bikes depending on your preference. Before I forget, most of the hotels give you the password to their wifi whenever you go for a swim or a meal. #wanderlustfulsights 🇬🇭📸 Google images lol #whereistand #travelwriter #travel #travelgram #travelblogger #wanderlust #ilovetravel #writetotravel #travelstroke #travelling #traveltheworld #igtravel #getaway #travelblog #travelphoto #traveler #travelersnotebook #beachlife #visafree #Ghanaians #travelbug #Togo #Lome #photoofday #foodie
