White bee This phrase is used to signify the furthest descendant among Serbian people. In different regions it is used as a name for 3rd, 4th or even 5th generation, i.e. children of a great-great-grandson. It is interesting that this phrase originates from beekeeping. White bees are the name for the 3rd or 4th afterswarm in a given year. For this to happen the year needs to be particularly abounded and suitable for these insects. Keeping that in mind it is not strange that we find the phrases such as "God let you have white bees" (Да бог да стекао беле пчеле) or simply "gain white bees" (стећи бијеле пчеле) where the term "white bees" is a signifier of wealth and rarity. Thus this Serbian kinship term conveys wishes for wealthy and numerous descendants. Text: Dušan Božić References: Марта Бјелетић - Беле пчеле, Кодови словенских култура 6, 2001, стр. 106-118. Henlo friends, I'm not sure I've mentioned anything personal lately but I broke up w/ my datefriend while visiting Pittsburgh for vday/their birthday and I cried in a hotel for three hours one night but it was GOOD and three of my profs met with me and are doing rec letters for my MFA app and the CMU Press head and design lead are gonna be job refs for me and I held in my own two hands AN WHOLE BOOK THAT I LAID OUT, INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR, WHERE MY IRL SERIOUS NAME IS PRINTED TWICE,
Also I'm ditching treatment March 10th. Doing job app shit and arranging NEW DOCTORS for OLD PROBLEMS that have decided to be especially Bad lately, aka sensory processing disorder specialist people, wow when I was diagnosed that shit was called sensory integration dysfunction, how the times have changed, apartment hunting in the town next to where my dad works because easier commute into NYC for work stuff, I'm sending apps in to book publishers mostly
Also the program I'm trying for is Seton Hill's one in writing popular fiction where they will let me concentrate in fantasy. Also the book that contains my name as cover design and layout person on back cover and copyright page is Afterswarm, by Margot Schilpp, from CMU Press.
Fingers crossed that I'll be able to properly consume several more real life food items after some occupational therapy work, but even if that shit is hard, I will be able to access THINGS I CAN MAKE MYSELF AND LIKE, BECAUSE I WILL NO LONGER BE IN BUTTFUCK NOWHERE VERMONT.
I have nothing against buttfuck nowhere Vermont itself, but I strongly do against where I've been staying because they refuse to let me use the kitchen even when I'm willing to go buy my own damn groceries. So Eating has been A Challenge, and tbh good for me for doing so damn well in Pittsburgh even though it SUCKED in several ways, and being ready to fuckign make my life move again, and I've been doing it all while only reliably having a protein shake every morning.
Anyways HI the bitch is back ✨

Episode 25 is live! This week, I talk a little bit about robbing behaviour in honey bees, and what you can do about it, and then I dive back into 'The Lives of Bees' by Thomas Seeley. 🐝 Chapter 7 is all about colony reproduction, covering topics such as drone vs queen production, the probability of 'afterswarms', drone congregation areas, and the 'optimal swarm fraction' (aka what percentage of worker bees leave with the mother queen for optimal survival and genetic diversity). Follow the link in my profile, or listen wherever you get your podcasts. ❤ #beekeeping #homesteading #homesteadhensandhoneypod #bookreview #thelivesofbees #thomasseeley #podcast (at Portage Lakes, Ohio) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDjU0sCpDf3/?igshid=ceh6qd74ts9g

Fics to cheer you up
I’ve seen a lot of unhappy people around here lately so I thought I’d offer some low-rated, low-angst, feel-good, not too long Johnlock relationship fics. Because fandom should be a happy place.
Low-Rated Feel-Good Johnlock Relationship Fics
A Terrific Soporific by antietamfalls (11K, Teen) Sherlock, a long-time sufferer of insomnia, is forced to share a bed with John at a hotel while on a case. To his astonishment, he finds that spending the night next to John helps him sleep and becomes determined to maneuver himself back into John's bed.
A Very Sherlock Musical by flawedamythyst (11K, Teen) So, you know how musicals are set in a world where people just burst into song every five minutes, and everyone around them automatically knows to join in with the tune and choreography? This fic is set in that world.John finds it extremely frustrating that Sherlock won't sing their theme song with him.
Afterswarm by whitedatura (10K, Teen) John has seen Sherlock do a lot of odd things over the years. Having a genuine conversation with a bee might be the oddest. (Or: the one where Sherlock communicates with bees, John questions his sanity, and Mrs Hudson gets a new computer.)
Groundhog Day by lasuen (16K, G) John has to relive the same day time and again. The title speaks for itself, really.
Hallowe’en Homecoming by earlybloomingparentheses (12K, Teen) Sherlock and John are solving a case when Mycroft turns up and persuades Sherlock to return home for his mother's Hallowe'en celebration. John thinks that seeing where Sherlock grew up will help him understand the detective better; instead, he finds himself more confused than ever. But it's John Watson's job to look after Sherlock Holmes, come hell, high water, or Hallowe'en, so that's just what he's going to do.
Hallowed Eve by EventHorizon (14K, Teen) It probably wasn't the smartest idea to let Sherlock choose the costumes for Halloween, but John never considered himself the smartest man in the room, anyway.
Horse and Carriage Verse by flawedamythyst (60K total*, Teen) Sherlock proposes. John thinks the whole idea is ludicrous. * Each installment is much shorter and most can be read on their own
Humdingers and Melancholies by flawedamythyst (9K, G) Who would have guessed that John would be the one who struggled with retirement?
Lacking Each Nuance by thetreesgrowodd (11K, Teen) John finds someone to help him with a personal experiment. Surely, if he's careful, Sherlock won't find out. Also: kiwi fruit, a stolen antique agate-inlay dagger, peach-scented candles, the reinvention of the hug, an experiment involving blue balls, and Sherlock pondering whether the eyes really are the windows of the soul.
Lov tobakko ash by pjordha (17K, Teen) When asked if Sebastian Wilkes is good enough for John, Sherlock's reply is an emphatic "Absolutely not."  Or, John Watson channels Bridget Jones.
Never-Ending Cycle by orphan_account (17K, Teen) Or, four times Sherlock Holmes attempted to propose to John Watson, and the Christmas Party at which he finally did. Sherlock thinks he's a miserable failure, John is confused, Mrs. Hudson and Lestrade provide some unsatisfactory advice, and Mummy is, as always, the solution. All in a lovely, fluffy holiday theme.
Saying I Love You Should Be So Simple by LikeATeddyBear (22K, Teen) It started as a slip up. A slipped out "I love you" that was brushed off as if it was nothing. It turned into an intense game of "don't mention the game, who can do it better."
The Dangerous Edge of Things aka Sherlock Holmes has a Boyfriend who lives in Canada by dreamingrain (10K, Teen) Self-explanatory
The Important Bit by solshine (9K, G) Just where exactly is the line between “to love” and “to be in love”? What difference is required between “flatmate” and “husband”? (Besides the rings, obviously.) No, the important bit is that they have each other. Thirty years, give or take, in an atypical marriage. Basically a long bit of platonic domestic fluff.
The Real Meaning of Idioms by feverishsea (21K, Teen) After two weeks away, John finally texts Sherlock. He doesn't expect Sherlock to respond. He doesn't expect Sherlock to keep texting him. And he really doesn't expect things to spiral out of control so rapidly.
The Red-Handed League by Flangst (12K, Teen) He sits across from me and sips his tea with a little hum of contentment. I try not to be too conspicuous in my examination of him. The way the sunlight picks up the gold in his hair and makes his head almost glow. The way the fabric of his jeans creases under his knees. The way he sits, his posture; the angle between his open legs and the way he plants his feet on the floor. Solid, comfortable, relaxed. We gravitate towards each other; find equilibrium in each other’s presence. I wish I knew if he loved me the way I love him. I sometimes think he does, but to act on assumptions and be rejected would kill me.

For the meme: how about 5?
5. Is there any fic that makes you super happy to reread and remember you wrote that?
Hmm. I’m still pretty pleased with Adornment. The setting was fun to write and gave me something to fall back on when I got stuck. (I get stuck a lot.)
(Also: Afterswarm. Because bees. And because I like to pretend Sherlock S3 & S4 mostly don't exist.)
