Lightbearer Empire and their systematic erasure of history
So by now, it is probably no surprise to see yet another lore-related post on my page. And it’s probably even less of a surprise that we’re talking about yet another unethical terrible thing connected to the Lightbearers. But this piece of lore, I think, is very important because it is very common in irl societies as well and it is something to take into account when you read history books or learn about the past from a singular source. I will be mostly drawing information from the lore compilation in the AFK Arena art book. If you have any questions or want me to take pictures of specific parts of the book and lore, please let me know.
At first, I didn’t understand why we needed about half of the faction information in this book. It opens with an overview of the whole history of Esperia as well as the brief history of the multiverse Esperia is a part of. And yet, every faction also opens with a short historical overview. At a glance, they are very similar – the same general events, the same general timeline – but if you look closer, you will be able to spot a couple very important differences. The objective historical overview tells you how things happened while not taking sides and without bias. But faction-specific historical lore will tell you how each specific faction views its own history, what they see as their greatest triumph and what are the worst slights done to them. Obviously, all of these are extremely biased, but this time, I want to talk about the Lightbearers and their interpretation of their history.
We already knew, from the game, about the erasure of Zaphrael’s name. Despite him being a literal god, and despite him reaching divinity by saving the life of another god, Zaphrael was effectively deleted from history because his wife became a demon, and because Zaphrael never managed to truly kill her. This is especially jarring when you consider that the demons whose souls fused with Lucretia’s are the Twin Terrors – two demons of legendary power, bolstered by the faith of countless cults spread around the land. Lucretia, in the lore, is a demon who can fall armies all on her own. Yet, Zaphrael got mistreated and erased for not being able to kill her on his own. All of this because the church refuses to accept a god who failed to “control” his own wife.
But there is another, perhaps even worse, instance of the Lightbearer history being changed for the sake of an agenda. During the Era of Man-Gods, Annih proposed to the other gods to introduce humans to alchemical practices that would certainly lead to their doom. This lead to the creation of the Ya, people with animalistic features who would later go on to split into Maulers and Wilders... Except that’s not how the Lightbearer history goes. According to the Lightbearers, the Ya never existed. Instead, the transformed humans who went through so much pain because of the alchemical experiments, were simply all Maulers. Now, I know what you may be thinking, that’s not that big a difference, right? And what agenda would this even be pushing? Well...
Lightbearers originally founded the Astral Academy to be a place to study the arcane. But back when it was founded, it was an institute that was human-only. It wasn’t until much much later that the humans realized how powerful the Wilder magic is and how they could use it to their advantage. In the current timeline, Lightbearers as a whole strive to forge good relationships with the Wilders because they are extremely useful. Do you see the issue now?
By erasing the term Ya from their history and swapping it up for just Maulers, Lightbearers get to act as though they have never caused the Wilders any harm. And Wilders, while they do have some orally passed records of their history, have very little in terms of written records, so there is little more than anecdotal evicence of the violence, discrimination, and horrible mistreatment that their ancestors were subjected to from Lightbearer hands. Not only that, but this also works to drive further vedge between the Wilders and the Maulers since the Maulers already see the Wilders as cowards who would rather forget their past than fight to avenge it. And going even further, since Graveborn do actively use the term Ya, by erasing it from Lightbearer books, they shift all the responsibility for the violence on the common ancestors of the Maulers and Wilders, to Bantus. And since every other faction already kind of hates the Graveborn, it again only serves to fuel the fires of hatred more and more.
This is probably far from the last time something like this will happen but it is an interesting bit of information. I thought this was a mistake at first but after checking again, the text from the objective historical overview is practically copy-pasted into the Lightbearer history EXCEPT the mention of Ya, which is changed to specifically say Maulers, so I have a feeling it was done on purpose. It is really not too different from how many authoritative regimes will erase events from their history to try and look better in the public eye, we see it everywhere. But it really makes me happy to know that so much thought went into this book and how well it fleshed out the world of Esperia.

Angsty set of Morgana-opinion Headcanons for the GaGene family bc yk what they need a bad day. just a bit of a bad day.
• Conrad is an easy subject. Morgana is… a much more complicated topic of discussion for the family. She’s influenced a large part of Gavus’s life, and raised Liberta, and they both have varying opinions on her.
• Gavus is a lot more solid in his feelings, they’re complicated, yes, but he’s solid in that his disapproves of her actions. He’s had time to come to terms that what she is doing is not okay and that he cannot support her any longer. Gavus knows that Morgana is not as good a person he thought she was, but even then. He cannot truly bring himself to hate her. She hurt him, his kids, his husband, and yet he cannot find it in him to hate her. He still wants to plead with her and make her see reason, even after knowing she won’t listen. He does find it painful, even now, to think about the good times with her. It’s jolting to know someone you loved and respected turned out to be so horrible, and it taints everything, Morgana is no exception.
• On Liberta’s side, it’s quite a bit more complicated. Liberta doesn’t know how to respond to Morgana’s actions and horribleness. He doesn’t want to believe it at all actually. He finds himself, often, unable to process what he had actually went through and what is good and bad in his childhood with Morgana because he genuinely cannot tell. Not to mention she treated him nicely, like a son! She can’t be all that bad then, right? She’s still a good person deep down, because she has to be.
• He’s got a good ol’ case of Mafuyu Asahina basically
• Eugene, on his own opinions, hates Morgana. He despises her, and every single fake ass person on the Celestial’s faction. He hates that she messed up badly, that she betrayed Gavus and raised Liberta to believe that his feelings don’t matter. He hates that she did that to his family, and he hates how the situation is complicated. It’s not like everyone can agree she sucks as easily as they do with Conrad. Hell, it hurts him that Liberta even saw her as a parental figure at all! That fucking sucks, and he can’t do anything about it because she DID raise his kid, like it or not. He’s mindful about what he says about her around the kids, but next to Gavus he’s mouthing her off left and right as many chances as he can get whenever she comes up in conversation.
• This both amuses and irritates Gavus. It’s essentially like, “Raven, I know you hate Morgana but can we focus for a second??”. The amusement moreso comes from the fact at least one of them holds enough hatred in their heart for both of them for that woman, thank you Eugene.
• Lastly, Lucilla. Lucilla’s feelings are extremely simplified: Morgana = Conrad. Conrad = Bad, Hate that guy. Morgana = Bad, Hate that girl. She understands there’s more nuance to it for Liberta and Gavus, she’s not dumb, and she can, to an extent, recognize where Liberta is coming from. However, it frustrates her a lot whenever she hears words in Morgana’s defense, from Celestials or otherwise. It’s awful, terrible. Just what about Morgana needs defending? What could possibly be so good about her? She doesn’t get it. She doesn’t get any of it.
• Pretty much, the overall opinion as a family is, well, it’s complicated. Her actions run a bit deeper because of her emotional hold on two of their family members, and Conrad at least made it easy by acting like he doesn’t care (because, well, he doesn’t! Mans is as straight forward as he sounds: he just wanted power and destruction.), but Morgana? Morgana acted like she cared, and maybe she did at one point. For Gavus. Maybe she cared a lot about Gavus, and maybe she got attached to Liberta as well. But it doesn’t erase what she did, just simply complicates it further for the ones she hurt, because they loved her.

Just watched the gameplay trailer and...
Tumblr media
Well, it's a lot like Path to Nowhere. Can't say I'm surprised, considering the unit placement and map layouts from all the trailers we've seen.
(More under the cut because we all know I'm the bitch who's more interested in the gameplay compared to other things-)
Some corrections regarding the symbols:
Angel wings are enemies remaining, paw prints are movement opportunities remaining.
Whatever that last icon is, it's supposed to be is your HP.
Two tilesets is real, but it's only used to indicate pathing.
There doesn't seem to be a distinction between low ground and high ground tiles - it's just the lighter tiles are the enemy paths, and you place units on lighter tiles if you want to block enemies.
The limits of the battlefield are the black picket fences along the edges!
But holy shit some of these abilities sound so fucking broken on paper, but the applications...
Tumblr media
Marbas's skill, if handled properly, can act like Bard Supporters in Arknights. However, the healing seems to be very limited, at 1 HP per tick? How would it scale based on skill level and stats? Is 1 HP a lot for friendlies? At least it seems to be an infinite duration skill, so...
Tumblr media
Paimon's slow is manual targeting. Personally I'm not a fan, or maybe it's because I think in the realm of tower defense, Suzuran is a slower done right. Or Snow Peas. These sorts of units, in essence, slow enemies down so our units can burst them down easily. Which might be uh...let's just say, underutilized based on the DPS options we have down the line.
At this point, Paimon seems to play a lot like May, and even then May is more effective in slowing down enemies with her first skill.
Anyways, what in the fuck is going on here?
Tumblr media
That 'Miss' in blue text. Is that a damage instance miss, an ailment miss, or something else? If it's a damage instance miss (which is what I think it is) then mygod I think I'm actually going to rage while playing this game. That is, unless it's due to a unit's passive - then for my own sanity I won't be using them, ever. Because hey, fellow Arknights players, remember these fuckers?
Tumblr media
Yeah. Silence and freeze came in clutch, honestly. There's a reason why a lot of players would rather not deal with dodge enemies and just want to nuke them out of existence with true damage and status effects. Though to be fair it's the Nethersea Brand that makes Stultifera Navis a hard event/Intermezzi...
ANYWAYS! The next skill I'll be looking at is Eligos's skill.
Tumblr media
That's a unique skill, honestly! Mechanically, it's most similar to Mlynar's second talent, which gives him innate Taunt (makes enemy ranged attacks target him when he's in their range) - except Mlynar is Broken Like That and has damage reflect while maintaining that the Talent is always active, all with respectable defenses and a sizable HP pool. Like Mlynar, depending on how much damage the enemy does on average and how strong Eligos's shield is, the skill can easily turn into a double-edged sword, however - in a much more dangerous way compared to Mlynar.
Think of it this way. It doesn't seem like WHB has a redeployment mechanic, as a similar "style" of tower defense with Path to Nowhere. Which means, if an ally is dead, then they stay dead for the entirety of the stage.
Compare that with Arknights, which allows retreating and redeployment.
Losing Texas the Omertosa on the battlefield wouldn't matter as much as losing Eligos, because I know I can still use Texas down the line. Plus, the Executor subclass is built around redeployment, making that mechanic necessary to use her properly. Same thing with me retreating Chen - her positioning wasn't the most optimal after clearing the treasure chest, and if the stage went on any longer I'd redeploy her in a more strategic position/direction. But I know this stage's mobs aren't particularly tanky, and Mountain with Sweeping Stance (S2) would be more than enough to hold that lane, with his 2-block + DPS + self-sustain.
These are the words of a chronic IS player.
Meanwhile, if I lost Eligos, then I'd lose a valuable blocker unit. He's a defender in WHB, and he definitely has more tanking capabilities. But that means you'll have to consider adding either a healer to keep him healed up or more DPS to kill off enemies before you lose said defender to continuous attacks.
The final three skills shown in the trailer all fall under the same category: burst damage over an area.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is where I can say slowers might eventually be underutilized in WHB on launch. They work the best with consistent, large damage sources over a period of time. What do I mean by that? Well, let's take a look at Suzuran - specifically, her second passive.
Tumblr media
Suzuran, in my opinion, reflects the most effective way a slower is used in tower defense. Not only does she slow enemies down, she inflicts them with a debuff that makes them take more damage (Fragile). This effect is doubled with her third skill Foxfire Haze, where she stops attacking - but her slow turns into an area of effect deal, heals allies, and has an increased range. She is oftentimes used in conjunction with damage dealers and an extra debuffer (optional, but typically Saria S3) with steady burst damage over a set period of time - SilverAsh, Surtr, Mlynar, Eyjafjalla, Mostima, and Exusiai, just to name a few.
Granted, she is a 6* unit (L rarity in WHB terms would likely be the closest approximation), but even then other Decel Binders (slowers like Suzuran) without the debuff application still has the 80% Slow on all enemies they attack, and has ways to increase their slowing and damage capabilities.
It's hard to see with how the battle is presented, but if Paimon's slow is only on skill proc, then him in conjunction with these DPS options would be the equivalent of using Decel Binders with Chiave/Pinecone - which isn't bad per se (unless you managed to stack charges - then it becomes good) but less effective compared to using, say, Pozëmka/Schwarz. And let's not forget that some of these characters have huge attack ranges (Satan and Gabriel specifically) - making the entire point of slowers more or less moot.
Also, it would seem that skills may inflict status ailments! Stun seems to work like in Arknights (enemy stops attacking and moving for a set period of time), but Bleed I will assume is a damage over time deal. Kinda like Blue Poison and Thorns's passives.
The final and arguably biggest gripe I have with what I see in the trailer, though?
Little to no potential for AFK gaming- //SHOT

Tumblr media
i love these tags this person is so right
actually, can you imagine if dave was raised by B1 roxy?
i wanna get into this actually
(ok i had to spend a few hours rewriting this because IT DIDNT FUCKING SAVE AFTER FIVE HOURS OF WRITING WHEN MY COMPUTER UPDATED WHILE I WAS AFK so it would mean a lot to show this post some appreciation. i LOVEEE hearing what other people have to say)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
even though these things mom does are presented in an extravagant, kitsch, jokey way, her intentions always came from a place of sincerity. she is simply Funnie
Tumblr media
but rose reads too far into it and assumes things that aren't there, that her mother is passive-aggressively feigning interest in rose's interests simply because the things she does are so extra. "why do all of this if not to mock me"
Tumblr media
im telling you right now if dave lived in this household he wouldn't assume antagonism, he'd go,
Tumblr media
don’t forget who LITERALLY patented tangible jpeg artifacts as their post-scratch adult self and scattered shitty scummed up statue of liberties all over the planet. theres no way some of that overboard artful shit wasnt post-ironic / circling back around to genuine funny sincerity
dave's natural state is funny sincerity like roxy. he's had the natural capacity for this type of humor from the start and this is the direction he goes towards when he grows out of his brother's shadow by the end of the comic. dave and roxy share an earnest “so bad its good” type of humor
(lots more under the cut; the length of this meta analysis just got unwieldly with all the pictures and whatnot)
despite the alcoholism, roxy is a supportive mother. she's not the ideal guardian but hells of a lot more supportive of her kid than bro is. if she knew dave's interests she would totally indulge in them with some over the top silly goofy haha shit as a genuine gesture simply because she loves him
Tumblr media
rose isn't too keen on it though. but she is more similar to dirk in her natural state of thinking of overthinking shit and assuming the worst, like the tags said
and yes dave got the sweet cuddly yet sometimes backhanded ouppy gene from roxy, probably even moreso lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
roxy's even said rose "sounds like girl dirk"
Tumblr media
side tangent here, but this is something i wanna talk about.
i dont think bro should ever be in custody of children ever but if theres anyone who would be up to the task it's rose probably. i know she'd be able to keep up with him. not only does she have a defined personality (dave is more malleable and absorbs his environment like a sponge), if anyone can pick apart B1 dirk's batshit brain and probably be right on the money it's her. lil cal has been pumping patriarchal nonsense into bro's head and rose would be able to bring the fucking facts to the table without losing her own and being a living example of a badass little girl. i also don't think bro would try to force masculine roles onto rose like he did with dave, seeing as she is a girl, so she would actually have more of a leg up and get some passes that dave was never afforded. and rose wouldn't stand idly and accept any bullshit; she is no doormat. and i think this would earn bro's respect
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but anyway, from this, couldn't we conclude roxy "sounds like girl dave"?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
yeah okay. we havent even gotten into their penchant for funny typos or misspeaks, deliberate or otherwise
so, dave's environment
Tumblr media
the sentiment "god you hope you can be as good as your bro at this some day" might have been genuine at the time when he idolized bro but of course he's not able to express that in any sort of sincere fashion because he's in dirk's fucking household. and this level 10 irony shit isnt doing dave any favors
his role models were the Internet and a vague idea of what Bro was like. So he built up his facade based on irony–not the literary definition of irony, as Rose might be quick to point out, but a popular concept of irony based on the idea that things that didn’t make sense actually made sense in some roundabout way. As a master of irony, Dave probably reasoned, he could see in a way other people couldn’t why a world that was scary and didn’t make sense really did make sense, and could therefore convince those people that he was superior to them. And he would wield his knowledge to maintain the appearance of superiority by calling everything ironic and pretending he didn’t care about things that didn’t make sense, and he would use walls of vaguely rhyming words to keep everyone at arm’s length so they wouldn’t discover his insecurities (source)
roxy's style is the embodiment of post-irony. being raised by mom lalonde would be like being raised by joel vinesauce ok
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
what can i say ….. (getting meta about this actually, hussie got these jpeg wizard wallpapers from a spyware website. link takes some time to load because internet archive)
rose is quick to read post-irony as actually being a joke/insincere, which in bro's case would be true. but i believe dave's natural instinct, outside of the influence of bro, is to read post-irony as genuine, which is exactly how mom serves it. we see this as early as act 3 from him; he understands her motives better than rose does herself:
Tumblr media
and in act 6 intermission 2 i think it's pretty clear
Tumblr media
but the thing is, it's always genuine from her. dave wouldn't have to second guess it because he's not one to naturally second guess someone's sincerity; that was learned due to his bro being virtually unassailable
there two types of ironies at play here:
seems like a joke, is actually genuine (roxy)
doesnt seem like a joke, is actually a joke (dirk)
you can make the argument that the second is is more psychologically destructive because it makes you question the reality of what is genuine sentiment and what isn't. dave never knew what was genuine and what was irony so he just sort of existed in this sincerity-ironic limbo and always did the opposite of what he genuinely felt on principle even if it always did originate from a genuine place.
"it just a joke bro i was just being ironic i dont actually x" is so much more trust-breaking and psychologically damaging than "wait are you being serious" / "i am being so fucking fr rn davy gravy" / "ok thats actually pretty fucking awesome. giant ass wizard statue" / "RIGHT"
how much about dave would change do you think? his character arc would be completely different for one thing, i think he'd have it good aside from mom's alcohol issues. he'd be left with the sweet and funny parts of him that we see at the end of the comic. the fake coolguy stuff is out, but this remains. this is dave in his element and we see it as early as act 1
Tumblr media
he'd probably have no shades growing up in the lalonde residence* either cause those were given to him by bro straight out of the crater as an extension of his own cool image. and john gave dave ben stiller’s aviators for his 13th birthday to replace them so he could “spread his wings”
Tumblr media
dave said he was wearing them for the ironies but i kind of doubt it. maybe post-irony but there was some reacharound to it being genuine because dave never put those pointy anime shades on his face again.
*though... it’s kind of hard to imagine him without his shades at all? B2 dave still got stiller’s shades from stiller himself so maybe getting them is a universal constant. i can imagine mom getting him them as a birthday gift cause shes pretty wealthy and probably could buy it out in an auction. but also itd be cool if john still gave him it as a gift
dave is actually a lot more genuine and easy to read than he lets on even when grappling with his upbringing with B1 dirk (again, see this post). this can be seen all throughout he comic but a good example is the evolution of thoughts about his interest in the preserved dead things in his room:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
if B1 roxy was dave's guardian he probably WOULD have pursued paleontology because she wouldve indulged him in it and probably find it cool and worthwhile to pursue, instead of allowing dave to flounder under ironic detachment, being poisoned by irony to the point of gaslighting himself into believing he doesnt actually believe he thinks this shit is cool. even if it was indulged in this such a way; a superficially kitsch and ironic appearing presentation, it comes from a genuine place and inspires genuine interest. just read the comments.
basically, i think if B1 roxy raised dave, their relationship would have a surface level appearance of being bizarre or over-the-top but they’d have an unsaid mutual understanding that it’s completely in earnest and just build on each other's funny and absurd gestures of affection. rather than seeing it as one-upping each other, it'd more like collaboration of some silly bullshit that you take a step back and look at full and just say, "fucking incredible"
speaking of paleontology, mom had the proto-ectobiology lab. maybe they'd be able to use the equipment to appearify paradox ghost imprints of the dead shit to create paradox clones of things from the cambrian era??? sounds like a fun mother son bonding activity. and theyd actually put the sciencey shit in the household to use
oh god i know exactly the kinds of music shed listen too also growing up as a teen in the 80s. she on that (post)-punk/art rock/new wave/new romantic mtv stuff. XTC shit fr. this is a B-52S HOUSEHOLD. maybe the associates for the campy melodramatic flair. so he gets to keep the record on his shirt cause he is an enjoyer of the shit in her vinyl collection. dave would still gravitate towards musical expression and music itself but of more variety outside of just rap, with an 80s-90s, even 70s flavor due to mom’s influence. see this for perhaps a glimpse. she probably visited new york city a lot for business trips and because the music scene was cool as hell around that time, imports came straight from jfk airport, she probably got in on that a bit and have remnants in the form of vinyls and cassettes. in this way she could be distributing void to dave (influencing him with forgotten / presently irrelevant music). now he can REALLY rave about bands none of his friends have heard of. “hey davy grvay watcha listenin to” (he holds up vinyl cover) “omg snakefinger”
btw dave lalonde would look like this to me

Infinity and Beyond - Looking Into The Sweet Signals from Space Update!
We’re finding the imposters among us with this one!
Tumblr media
The aim of this concept is to have it be a multi-update deal akin to the Dragons storyline with how they say “like the dragon series, we’re diving into a story set in a rich, expansive universe”. This peaked my interest, I’d love to see what they have in store! I know there are some folks who like or don’t like the Dragons story, so I wonder what you all think of this!
Tumblr media
Meet Astronaut Cookie! She’s cute, has an ice cream sandwich satellite for a pet, even has a cat cookie motif with her costume? What more could you want! Yeah, her skill might be a bit too reminiscent of Cyborg’s (who also got a skin after 84 years lol), but I’m willing to look past that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alright, I’m kind of vibing with the setting already, cookies are probably toothpaste, wonder if they clean your teeth when eaten. How does one “escape” or even fortify against a blackhole? The event itself sounds similar to the Sugar Maze event to me…in a way somehow. Wait, why is Stollen Cookie here? Also Planet H A M B O R G A R
Tumblr media
I’m now getting Star Wars: Rogue One flashbacks. Just like Cyborg, it’s been 84 years since he got attention, so I’m happy to see he got a cool skin to deck himself out with!
Tumblr media
The Surprise Bears. They can either go well or go very poorly, still means I don’t have to run over and over again for the god damn legendary ingredients. However, I do hope the challenges aren’t meant to be a cap in any way, since that already drags it down when you were able to AFK for hours beforehand, even if it sucked. Team Fight getting a gem boost might give me more incentive to play.
Tumblr media
(Gmod flatline sound effect plays)
The Deal with Legendaries is canceled, y’all /j. I can’t keep up with their pace, bro. I’m over here trying to write it from time to time and they already have another one on the way, I’m dead. Xylitol Nova himself is getting flak for having a supposedly dull design unworthy of the rarity, I’m already seeing it in the QRTs on Twitter lol. For me, I’ll wait until I cast judgment, he has a pretty cool skin though…
———————————————————————
Tumblr media
(Astronaut Cookie looked all around her new setting, seeing the city’s sleek, clean, futuristic design she hasn’t seen much of back on Earthbread. The cookies here didn’t look all that different too, save for their ingredients being possibly toothpaste in some capacity. She was caught staring at this one cookie in particular, she observed them inspecting the shield and instructing the robots to different spots close to the barrier, Xylitol Nova Cookie chuckled at her once he noticed.)
Xylitol Nova Cookie: Ah, I see you’ve taken an interest in one of my cookies. That would be Xylitol Y/N Cookie, they’re in charge of making sure the barrier is in peak performance, they’ve been hard at work ever since we’ve seen reports of the blackhole.
(Xylitol Nova walked over to them as Astronaut followed. Meanwhile, you were instructing both cookies and robots alike on the status of the barrier, making sure that no fault in any way was detected. Until the voice of someone very familiar to you called your name..)
Xylitol Nova Cookie: Hello, Xylitol Y/N Cookie. How are you doing?
(You greeted Xylitol Nova in return and proceeded to ramble on about the barrier. You did your best at trying to speak to him, but couldn’t ignore that cookie next to him staring at you. It also looked like Xylitol Nova wasn’t taking your analysis seriously with that smile of his, something that bothered you to no end!)
Xylitol Nova Cookie: How routine of you, Xylitol Y/N Cookie. Always thinking about the barrier when we haven’t had any issues in the past couple rotations. We have a guest here today and I’d like for you to meet her-
(You couldn’t, you had to inspect the rest of the barrier-when Xylitol Nova Cookie suddenly hugged you from behind with a strong grip, a scene that made Astronaut Cookie feel…envious. You complained and grumbled as you try fruitlessly to free yourself)
Xylitol Nova Cookie: Xylitol Y/N Cookie. You are taking a break from now until further notice, I’d hate to use my authority on you, but this is for your own good. Feel free to interact with your fellow cookies, come and see me in my residence, or even introduce yourself to our guest here~! (I’d prefer you pick the second option in my opinion)
(You continued to struggle until it felt tighter to move, you looked to your front to see Astronaut Cookie hugging you from the front, her head resting on your chest. You swear she’s…shaking a little bit?)
Xylitol Nova Cookie: What do you know? Even our visitor is agreeing with me, she appears to have taken a liking to you too.
(…Who was this?)

I'm on the fence about a lot of the "glass child" discussion because where I agree with some points that are made and enjoy the in depth analysis, I've come to severely disagree with others. Mostly because the internet is the internet, and the nuanced discussion has lost that nuance.
The reason this whole thing blew up (though it's been a concern for a while, certainly) was when Phil explained why he felt he needed to save Tallulah first before Chayanne. And you could tell Philza was trending cautious waters with his wording - he never wanted to say "oh, Chayanne's a chad, he'll get over it." With his wording, he recognized that neither were necessarily fine, but he still felt it necessary to prioritize one over the other because of one of his kid's big issues: Tallulah has abandonment issues. Maybe they're not as bad now since the "official adoption," but it certainly shouldn't be disregarded. But Phil remembers how much Tallulah hates being left alone, and wanted to make sure she wasn't in that situation long. Phil knew at the of the day, that Chayanne had no severe abandonment issues (that we are aware of), hence him saying he'd be okay "a bit longer." The prioritization is still there, and the Death family still has much to talk about, but the fandom's reactions felt a bit too... harsh, a bit too severe. They'd make it sound like Phil didn't consider Chayanne's feelings at all or that he thought Chayanne was totally going to be 100% okay with being alone forever and ever. When there's more to it than that, and ultimately, Phil was stuck making a decision in a lose-lose situation, and he knew that.
But a lot of people seem to focus solely on this moment, and let it epitomize the entirety of the Death Family's relationship and struggles. When, if anything, there's additional moments from yesterday's stream alone that I think show some slow growth in Philza's parenting when it comes to him being overprotective of Tallulah and him expecting a protector/warrior out of Chayanne.
Because if Phil really thought Chayanne was a ruthless warrior who can handle anything and be fine and get over it, he'd have let Chayanne immediately join them in their journey of saving Richarlyson. Like "If we've got Chayanne with us, nothing can hold us back" or something. But he didn't. He wanted both of his children to stay back, to stay safe. But his kids insisted on joining, even if just for emotional support. And if Phil really was completely stuck in his old ways, he'd say the old "Chayanne protect your sister" when the mobs starting showing up, or hell, even before that. But that never once happens. Both of his kids fight, and he trusted that they could both handle themselves since they insisted on coming along, though you can see him check on both of his kids once or twice during the fight. If this becomes a persistent thing, it shows great growth in Phil's character when it comes to being overprotective of his daughter and having his son prioritize her safety above all else. It's become more of "keep an eye on each other," which is definitely the preferrable kind of thinking!
And again, I emphasize that singular moments should not be the sole focus of these discussion. Rather, the overall actions throughout should be talked about. And honestly, Phil made sure that a lot of his focus was divided between both of his children throughout yesterday. When Chayanne decided to stay behind while the others went to the beach event to keep an eye on an AFK Tubbo, Phil decided to "hang about with you, kid, it's alright," even when Tallulah was long gone. Like, he wasn't going to let his kid sit alone like that waiting! Or when he got the llama plushie during the treasure hunt, I'd honestly have expected him to immediately give it to Tallulah because animals=Tallulah, I guess. But he asked them both which of them would have liked it more, a genuine attempt to make sure neither felt left out in receiving the gift. Yes, these, too, are small moments, but if we wanna have a discussion about these relationships, all these moments should at least be considered, not just the negatives.
And to me, the kind of consensus to make in these scenarios is that the situation at hand is... complicated. Like, Phil's parenting is flawed, I'd be a fool to say otherwise. All parenting is inherently flawed, that's basic psychology or... just how humans work. However, through his faults, he tries everything he is able to to do best by these kids. So, with all these moments and more, it never sat right with me to say Phil neglects Chayanne. I can almost see the case for "emotional neglect" a bit more, but even then, I find some fault in that thinking. Yes, qPhil is neurodivergent af, so he doesn't get emotional context clues and needs these discussion to be upfront in his face (which I already went into depth here regarding the relationship these two have). Put simply, any "emotional neglect" Chayanne feels isn't necessarily from Phil prioritizing Tallulah, but more so where Tallulah is more open with her feelings which makes it easier for Phil to talk to her about them, Chayanne has rarely ever been someone who opens up about feelings, and when you couple that with Phil's lack of emotional intelligence, these issues clash. However, it's important to note that a while ago, Chayanne had an open dialogue with Philza about Tubbo's death and how it affected him, and Phil was responsive to it. It'd be one thing if he told Chay to get over it, but no, he was very honest and kind to Chayanne during their talk. And afterward, Phil suggested for Chayanne that, if he ever needs to talk, to have them sit at the pier outside of their house. He extended an offering to Chayanne for emotional discussions. It was a great way for both of these people who are terrible at talking about their emotions to come together and talk. It highlights how Phil is very much okay with talking to Chayanne on an emotional level, and he has, and he will continue to be. They're just... both bad at it, sadly.
Finally, I think it's important to clarify what a glass child actually is, and if it fits the current narrative. A glass child is a child who is overlooked when their sibling is facing some sort of disability that makes the parent give the sibling their full attention, and often has the glass child help out a lot. Initially, Tallulah very much needed extra care due to her "asthma" and the fact she wasn't a great fighter who could protect herself. Hence why Phil and Chayanne were so overprotective of her and put a lot of focus on her. And for the longest time, Chayanne was okay with it, because she needed that help to survive on this hellish island. It's just that over time, things changed. These characters changed.
So it's not really like that for Tallulah now, is it? Her asthma is no longer as bad (it still happens, though!), and she's gained a lot of fighting experience over time. She can hold her own in a fight. And Phil no longer keeps that much of a paranoid eye on her; i.e. again, yesterday's stream where, even when they were fighting end monsters, he never shouted for her to get away or for Chayanne to protect her. In the early days, if Tallulah was even allowed to join, he'd have her stand back and ask Chayanne to keep an eye on her. But that doesn't happen here.
So nowadays? No, I don't think Chayanne could be considered a glass child. Because those disabilities aren't as much of a hindrance for Tallulah as they used to, and Phil isn't as paranoid about them as before. I think the effects are still there, in a way, but it doesn't fit where the characters currently stand. Ultimately, I think there are several reasons as to why things are as they are even if Chayanne may not be a glass child in the present. The big one being that Phil's not entirely adapted to the changes his children have gone through.
Especially after Purgatory, his children have gone through a lot and changed in the process; Tallulah became more independent, and Chayanne kind of being tired of being a warrior and needing more emotional support. And since he wasn't there to witness that change and only saw the aftermath, I think it's a struggle for him to come to terms with them. However, that doesn't mean he's entirely set in old ways. He's trained Tallulah on PVP, and again, he's allowed her to participate in fights without being super worried. And as I mentioned, he has extended a branch for Chayanne to be more open with his feelings. These are just starts, certainly, but it means that Phil is open to adapting and helping both of his kids in any way they need. He just has to figure out what they need.
And let me be clear: I'm not disregarding the flaws in q!Phil's parenting. They exist, and Chayanne really needs to have an open discussion about how his emotional needs haven't quite been met as of recent, and Phil needs to be more open to have emotional discussions with Chayanne, even if to them, that's like pulling teeth. There's changes and improvements that need to be made. However, in talking about the negatives, it just seems like people think that's all there is. No, these flaws in Phil's parenting doesn't make him a bad parent. Because there are plenty of positives, plenty of decent growth here. There's love and respect and everything in this family. q!Phil is genuinely doing his best in a very difficult scenario: living on an island that is set on killing the eggs, and being a parent of two while basically being a single parent all while struggling with your own traumas. that's going to come with obstacles, it's inevitable, but what's also inevitable is how this family will work through them, and come out of this better than before.

love reading your rant/analysis on the mech accords vs core casters. would like to hear your thoughts on the other branches, i.e. would you say chain casters have semi-replaced splash casters?
You can't replace what was never there
See the thing is I wouldn't say Chain Casters semi-replaced Splash Casters because Splash Casters were already living under the shadow of Eyjafjalla, whose S2 just did their job but better, while being cheaper to deploy AND with a much lower SP cost on skills AND having more range.
More than Surtr and Ch'en Alter, Eyjafjalla is the one I hold responsible for having done the most damage to Arknights. Being a release 6 star Core Caster that did both Splash and Core jobs and did it better than anyone else affected an entire class for literal years.
Anyone and everyone had to get out of her way to be of any relevance. Ifrit was saved by having her then unique, straight line attack range which made her irreplaceable on certain maps, but everyone else got fucking bulldozed over.
Do you know why Patriot exists? It's Eyja's fault. The guy has 90 RES at Phase 1 because Eyjafjalla S3M3 deleted everything in sight, and when HG ran the numbers they found that only a few players actually E2'd Amiya, since she went completely ignored as soon as players pulled Eyja.
So they made this boss with the highest defensive stats they could possibly give any enemy in order to make True damage more appealing, but when that didn't work they just gated Chapter 8's finale entirely unless you E2'd Amiya then gave her a new Guard class, admitting she'd never defeat Eyja.
Every single other Caster since has been all about staying out of her way. Goldenglow boasts global range and an AFK skill to rival Eyja. Passenger got buffed twice, and THEN all the Chain Casters received really good modules that made them appealing crowd clearers. Ceobe was anti-armor and yet always did worse than Eyja at 30 RES anyway until she got her module doubling down on her anti-tank role. Ebenholz got funny oneshot capabilities to deal with enemies that even Eyja couldnt kill fast enough.
The Splash Casters already did worse AOE damage than Eyja, so when the Chain Casters took the crowd clearing role, they went all-in om their support role, which is why Mostima's module has a global slow, Dusk's 2nd module enables summon spam, and Lava the Purgatory has a +inital SP talent for Casters to enable Eyja hotdrops.
You could technically argue that Chain Casters taking the job of dealing AOE Arts damage means they replaced Splash Casters, but the issue is that it implies Splash Casters had that job at some point, and they didnt, because Eyjafjalla existed.
Honestly? If I were in HG I'd be proposing some drastic buffs to the Splash Casters, even more drastic than Mostima module x and Dusk module y. Give them 2 SP regen per second instead of 1, most of their skills are either weak, or way too expensive. Halving their downtime and making them much spammier than Core Casters would make them more appealing since theyre already trading away range, ASPD, and overall DPS vs Core Casters, and Mostima S3 plus Dusk S3 are both very powerful, but not strong enough to be utterly gamebreaking if their cooldowns are halved on top of their SP bonuses from Mostima's talent / Dusk's module.
If Mlynar S3 gets to recharge every 40 seconds while being a melee unit (which are far more flexible in placement than range), then Mostima and Dusk deserve to spam their own skills. Greyy's S2 might even be a semi-viable crowd control skill now that it doesn't take 60 whole seconds to charge to do very little.

Discussing what happened between Marshmallow and Paintbrush.
(This analysis post is going to primarily focus on Paintbrush. Sorry Marshmallow fans.)
Tumblr media
As we know, Marshmallow decided to abandon Inanimate Insanity during episode 11 of season 2 and was officially disqualified in episode 12. What I don't see a lot of people talking about though is the relationship between Marshmallow and Paintbrush and just how much hurt this could have possibly caused the poor artist.
So, let's take a look at the whole ordeal together in my attempt at an analysis post and see how this all affected Paintbrush. Marshmallow won't be mentioned too much because I'm mainly focusing on Painty here, not Marsh.
Let's not waste anymore time! Let's go! The analysis is under the cut!
1: Marshmallow and Paintbrush's friendship
(Kinda surprised LightBrush is more shipped than MarshBrush tbh. As much as I love LightBrush, MarshBrush is much more plausible.)
Tumblr media
From what we (the viewers) have been shown, these two are pretty close. From that one Santa ploy they schemed together to trick Apple in episode 9 season 1 to Paintbrush helping Marshmallow hide from Apple in episode 6 season 2, they were commonly shown helping each other and in general just being best buds.
Bare in mind, all that is simply what's shown! I know they're fictional characters and all but still! Imagine all the shit they could've done together off camera! (If that was possible, of course.)
So, with the context that Paintbrush and Marshmallow were extremely close... Doesn't the whole "Marsh abandoning the game to live with Bow, Dough and Apple" thing seem much more tragic already?
No?
Don't worry, I'll show you just how tragic it truly is.
2: Abandonment and the (assumed) circumstances behind it
Tumblr media
We all know why Marshmallow abandoned the game. Here's the thing though: just because we, the viewers know the reason doesn't mean that they, the characters know that reason.
Paintbrush doesn't know that Marshmallow simply got sick of the game and wanted to live with Bow. They have no idea where she is or if she's even alive.
Not only that... They probably think they are at fault as well.
I'll tell you my reasoning as to why I think they blame themself.
Tumblr media
The episode right before Marshmallow abandoned the game (episode 10, season 2) Paintbrush lost it right in front of Marsh and assaulted Fan. Verbally and physically. Doesn't help that the run in with some of their other teammates ended with Paintbrush calling Marshmallow, telling her that they were leaving.
I doubt Paintbrush meant to seem as controlling as I made them sound. They just got frustrated, that happens.
That doesn't mean they don't blame themself now, does it?
I mean, if you got angry in front of your best friend and that anger led to you hitting someone and storming off, dragging your friend along right before they mysteriously vanished, never to be seen again... Well, who wouldn't blame themself for that?
Again, Paintbrush isn't evil. They aren't exactly good but they certainly didn't want to control Marsh. If anything, they wanted to help her. It's just that their anger got in the way and now she's left them.
Things get even worse however...
3: Lightbulb's time travelling shenanigans
(Great quality screenshot, Akemi. You could probably count the pixels in that goddamn thing.)
Tumblr media
Lightbulb fucking around with time in of itself didn't really do much about the whole situation. What I want to talk about is something that is barely even touched on, if at all.
Like with Marshmallow leaving the game, the cast didn't know that Test Tube and Lightbulb were time travelling and messing about in an alternate universe like us viewers do. To the cast, they just disappeared.
Sounds familiar, doesn't it? Yep, it's similar to Marshmallow going AFK.
Not only that, the circumstances are similar as well, at least to Painty.
Tumblr media
They got angry with a teammate, hurt a teammate (emotionally this time) and walked off mad.
Considering how Lightbulb disappeared basically right after this scene, Paintbrush probably thought that Lightbulb had left them forever.
Just like Marshmallow.
Granted, Paintbrush displays a positive reaction to the news but... How do we know that they were actually happy about Lightbulb suddenly going missing? What if they were mentally tearing their bristles out or something? That had to have felt some guilt and self-hatred over the whole thing, right?
Faking a smile is basically Lightbulb's whole character (heavily watered down but still kinda right), I wouldn't doubt that Paintbrush would fake one as well.
Remember: actions and thoughts can be separate! A character could look happy but actually be extremely sad and self-loathing!!
At least Lightbulb didn't actually disappear forever like Marshmallow. That probably made Paintbrush feel a little less guilty. Keyword: a little. Not entirely. They still don't know where Marshmallow is and still probably blame themself for her leaving the game.
Not entirely a happy ending but more bittersweet, kinda like their season 2 elimination.
So, in conclusion. Paintbrush's conscience is probably a guilty one due to Marshmallow leaving them and never coming back.
Anyway, Sayonara!
(I could still be wrong though, feel free to correct me.)

A Character Analysis on Specimen 9 (Aka Taker)
Made a post about this on Reddit. Might as well put it here too. Spooky's has a lot of interesting, albeit, unnerving creatures. From an eye stabbing puppet, to the physical embodiment of trauma, to a demon from hell that feeds people mind manipulating burgers, and many others.
Tumblr media
Then there's the oddity that is Specimen 9. Aka Taker. The specimen doesn't have a locale or spawn like the others do. Instead either spawning if you afk for awhile or showing up if you get stuck in the endless hallway.
Tumblr media
At some point in the game you would probably run into its CAT-DOS entry, with the screen either freaking and glitching out if you played the original version or the entry not giving you any information on the creature aside from the ominous "TO TAKE THE DEAD" line being repeated over and over if you played the HD Renovation.
Tumblr media
Then you get to the climax of the game. After reaching 1,000 rooms, getting through the exit, and being met with a fake outdoors area, Spooky shows up and is visibly upset at the player getting this far without dying. That is until some strange roaring/groaning sounds are heard in the distance and she becomes happy again, coming up with an excuse on the spot to make the player keep going.
Being met with a bleak and colorless environment with soothing, yet unnerving ambiance playing in the background, you come across a table with a radio that states "I'm taking all those "logs" they keep throwing out... and I'm nailing them together."
Tumblr media
After walking around a bit and going through a door labelled "731", the Taker suddenly appears in front of your face and starts to slowly take on a new form as it makes groans of, what sounds like to me at least, pain. Going from a disembodied head to a full on human, albeit, a skinless one with an overextended jaw. After that, you're thrown into a boss fight.
It's not a very hard fight. You'll most likely beat it in one go and either get the good and bad ending and... that's it really.
To new players, Specimen 9's boss fight will most likely come across as a cool, but pretty random and out of nowhere fight. Especially considering they'll most likely go through the entire game and not see Specimen 9 once. Not to mention the unanswered questions. Why was this specimen, out of all the other ones, chosen to be a boss? Was the radio on the table spouting nonsense or did it actually mean something? Why is its room number labeled 731? Well, now we can start diving deeper into Taker.
Tumblr media
If you go to the CAT-DOS machine and click on "Modify House Layout" six times and then click on Specimen 9's entry, you gain access to its actual written entry and some other specimens. Specimen 9 is a clay-like creature that somehow survived Unit 731. The Unit 731 that performed the most atrociously horrific and inhumane experiments on men, women, and even children and babies. That and overall being sadistic and cruel to their subjects. Not even viewing them as human beings by referring to them as "logs", sometimes killing them just to play around and not even for "experimentation", or forcing them into sexual acts either for "experimentation" or simply because they could.
Tumblr media
This explains the "I'm taking all those "logs" they keep throwing out... and I'm nailing them together." line. The "logs" aren't literal logs or written logs, but test subjects. Corpses of the victims that were thrown out after they were exposed to the violent and often fatal "tests". The nailing them together part of the line could imply that the voice on the radio is either one of the "scientists" explaining how they created Specimen 9 or Specimen 9 themselves explaining about what they're doing. After all CAT-DOS does say that it's drawn to dead bodies.
That's not the only thing that the Unit 731 connection explains, as it could also explain the motives of Specimen 9. Apparently he was too hard to contain. Too hard in fact that he was killed and dismantled by GL Labs, yet survived somehow anyways, leaving him as a floating head. The entry doesn't go into the detail on why he was hard to contain, more specifically, why he didn't want to be contained in the first place. Well, considering the last "scientific" facility that he was in? GL Labs probably reminded him too much of Unit 731. Causing him to make multiple escape attempts before most likely killing the scientists in a fit of rage after they tried to kill him and left him as a floating head. This is where we can form a story out of Specimen 9.
He used to be a regular and ordinary guy. That was until he was forced into being a test subject or "log" at Unit 731. He mostly likely suffered and went through agonizing torture there before finally dying. Somehow, perhaps simply through paranormal means, he woke up as a strange clay-like being. He wasn't human anymore. He was a monster. A thing. He strangely felt drawn towards the dead and wanted to make those corpses they would throw out apart of himself. Maybe because he wanted to gain more power to get revenge on the scientists. Maybe because he wanted to piece himself back together after his body was mutilated. Whatever the case, he did what he did. Taking the "logs" and "nailing them" to his body. Perhaps after that he killed the scientists at Unit 731 and ran away to hide in Russia.
Then he was found by GL Labs. He was considered very effective, but he kept making escape attempts. He despised being there. The scientists and facility reminded him too much of Unit 731. Perhaps he was treated horribly there as well. Being seen not as a human being, but as an object. A "log" like how the Japanese viewed him. He was killed and left as a head due to the scientists at GL Labs getting tired of his constant escape attempts, he survived however, and most likely made those scientists pay by killing and taking them. He was now known as the Taker.
Tumblr media
Taker stalks the player in the base game the moment they go into their first room. Trying to take their body when they find the chance so they can piece themselves back together. They never get that chance, however. By the end of the game, we enter into this lifeless area, perhaps a recreation of sorts of Unit 731. Taker finds what he needs there and is able to become humanoid again. Seeing the player as a dangerous threat, he tries to kill them.
The Taker is a former ordinary guy that just wants to be human again. To be seen as human. To become human. To put himself back together and escape into the outside world to try to live a somewhat normal life. Unfortunately, he never gets his wish. He dies in all of the endings in the base game and Doll House DLC. Although the good ending in the Doll House DLC is probably the best outcome for him. He gets to rest peacefully. No longer being a monster filled with rage and hatred. That is his story. In my personal interpretation anyways.
Tumblr media
Unit 731's inclusion in this game and its connection to Specimen 9 has to be the most disturbing and mind blowing realization once you connect the dots. I'm not sure how I feel about putting real life tragedies in video games, especially in one that's kinda goofy like this, but I think the way that it was implemented here was the best and most tasteful way they could've went about doing it. It's very vague and not very in your face with the way it's referenced. Every Youtuber that I have seen play this thought the radio meant "logs" as in actual wooden logs or written logs and not a single one picked up what 731 meant. It's something you'll only really discover if you go out of your way to look for it or pick up on if you're a history enthusiast like the character we play as.
Perhaps that could be used as criticism against the game, but I think it's an interesting way to go about it. There's just a unique and special kind of horror about going out of your way to find out what the deal is with this floating red skull, only to have that horrifying realization once you connect all the dots and realize what it's supposed to be referencing. Bonus points if you were like me and didn't even know anything about Unit 731 and read through the whole entire Wikipedia page. Shit is the stuff of nightmares. I wanted to dive more into Unit 731 and the other horrific things the Japanese did during WW2, but I quickly stopped once I read about what they did at Nanjing. Tears were overwhelming my eyes at that point and I couldn't handle it. It makes sense why Taker was chosen to be the final boss. Reality will always be more horrifying than fiction.
Anyways, that's it. I really like Specimen 9 and wanted to make a post that's just praising and appreciating him. With this and the two great dlc's this game has to offer, this odd but charming little game will always stick with me.

A few news that might or might not be important
Hey guys, sorry for the inactivity. I have been pretty busy since stuff is happening irl and has me distracted. But overall I'm stable, excluding some issues that happened to us during the time we were AFK.
So here, the bullet points of my current state and some info:
The novel is being worked on, with currently 859 words from a single chapter. Illustrations are yet to be decided, but since I have been busy with irl issues it has been very slow.
Commissions are still open! Im working on one, actually. But because of irl issues they're gonna be a bit slow.
Now this part is personal for me, which is coming out of my shell for something that i just found out. Please bear with me...
So after a few thoughts and analysis I found out two things. Let's start with the obvious one: i am a traumagenic system. I found this out during a lot of analysis and thoughts, and it sounds like I have issues that caused my system. Meaning, there's a very high chance I might have some sort of OSDD, or P-DID. I don't really know, but I do know it was bad.
Will this stop me from being pro endo? No! Im fact, this only proves me that there's a bit of truth on both anti and pro sides— trauma is there, whether it caused the system or not. I always thought this situation was black or white. Regardless, it is what it is. Im happy that i found out my system is and has been here to protect me...
The second point i want to touch is a tad more complicated, so please... PLEASE correct me and help me understand it better. DO NOT HATE. If someone has something to say, please communicate it respectfully. These days have been harder than it should, especially after this new.
There's a very high chance I have NPD. Or at least NPD traits. I always thought my seeking of approval and need of recognition was just low self esteem. That it stemmed from just wanting to feel heard. But i never paid attention to it, to my breakdowns, to my tears being shed every time i begged for forgivess, forgiveness i felt like i didn't need to give but still had to give to feel an ounce of someone saying "its okay". I felt desperate to get an ounce of recognition, even if it meant going back to people that hurt me. One of them was another narc. Im not going to go into details, because i personally believe that they had the total right since i was also horrible to them. There was a lot of misunderstanding, but that is my fault. The problem is... i don't feel guilty over it. I don't feel guilty over them hating me. I felt a rush, and while i was crying my eyes out and about to hurt myself... i still felt alive. After this i just want to be the best and prove those people that hurt me since my childhood that they are horrible and i am better than them. Even if it means to sabotage them.
NOT THAT IM ACTUALLY GOING TO SABOTAGE THEM. But you get the idea.
So... i feel like im broken over it. But ever since i looked it up on tumblr i realized im not the only one. I realized that my issues had a NAME.
Now, i don't like self diagnosis, so i have yet to see a doc... regardless, i might use the term...
Thanks for listening to me...

Final Boss Analysis #2
Specimen 9
Spooky’s Jumpscare Mansion
Tumblr media
He’s a final boss that seems confusing or even simple, but with some research you can find the hidden layers to this boss.
The Game
Tumblr media
Spooky’s Jumpscare Mansion is an indie horror game developed by Akuma Kira in 2015. The game has you wander through 1000 rooms of nothing and sometimes you get the occasional cardboard cutout jumpscare and it fucking sucks.
Deception
At least, thats what you think for the first 50 floors, then the game quickly takes a sharp turn from cutesy adventure time inspired mansion to a truly horrifying experience.
One important thing to keep in mind is that all the monsters in this game are inspired by various horror media, which will be important for dissecting the main guy later.
Specimen 9
Tumblr media
He takes the form of a decapitated flayed floating head made out of clay. The thing about him is, while all the other specimens are guranteed encounters, you may not even see Specimen 9 before the final boss encounter, but it is possible.
Behavior as a regular enemy
There are 2 ways to encounter Specimen 9 before Room 1000.
1. AFK. Standing still for long enough will spawn Specimen 9 in all his decapitated glory. In the HD Remake, he charges you and kills instantly on contact, and is faster than your run speed. In the original game, he takes 2 hits to kill you, and is slower than your run speed. You can despawn him in both games by simply going into the next room.
2. Find the endless hallway. Theres a rare room with 3 paths, 2 to either side of you, one being an empty room, and the other being the exit door to the next room, the path in front of you is seemingly endless, with a light at the end that never gets closer. Eventually, continuing the path will cause the walls to slowly start closing in on you, before completely trapping you. At this point, Specimen 9 spawns in, rushing and killing you instantly.
The Cat-DOS Entry
“A small skull shaped mass of clay that seemed to gain more form as subjects were TAKEN TAKEN TAKEN TAKEN TAKEN TAKEN
Specimen was deemed too hard to contain and was killed and dismantled by GL Labs.”
Well, obviously he is still alive, albeit the dismantled part seems true. It’s intentionally vague, and theres not much more in terms of information at this point, so, at last, we can ask why this guy is the final boss.
Final Boss: The Taker
Tumblr media
At Room 1000, you’re told you have to complete one last test before you can escape. You’re transported into a strange, dusty room with a table and a rotary phone. The voice on the phone states
“I’m taking all those “Logs” they keep throwing out… and i’m nailing them together”
Continuing along the hallway reveals a door with the room number 731. Opening this door reveals Specimen 9, who regains his original form, undecaptitating(?) himself.
The fight
Specimen 9 is not a hard boss. Turns out he’s actually more threatening when he’s just a head. He has a total of 4 attacks:
1. Summoning telegraphed pillars of screams (?????)
2. An outstretched hand shadow that tracks you and stops when the attack launches. Easy to dodge by sprinting out of the way.
3. Summoning clay minions to chase you down, these can be killed with your axe.
4. An orb of fire (or multiple). Trying to reenact ocarina of time by hitting it back will make Specimen 9 temporarily vulnerable to your attacks.
Conclusion
So, it sucks. He’s just your average scary red guy with no story, compared to the complex and inspired specimens that roamed the halls. Why does he deserve to be the final boss? Well…
Reprise Of Deception
Clearly we’re missing something here, the question is what? Well, to answer that, we need to investigate that number from earlier.
731
What is the significance of this number? Well, trigger warning for atrocious acts against humanity, but this is a reference to the real life Unit 731, where unethical experiments involving chemical and biological warfare were conducted against prisoners, who were referred to as “Logs”.
It’s highly implied that somehow, and in some way, Specimen 9 is a survivor of these experiments.
Signifigance
So, what does it mean? We have backstory now, but it doesn’t answer why he deserves to be the final boss.
It’s simple. Every other specimen is based on fictional horror media. Specimen 9, on the other hand, is based on a real life tragedy. That’s why he deserves it.
Actual Conclusion
Well, that was a stark contrast from Nishiki. Definitely check this game out if you haven’t! The original is free and the HD Renovation is cheap!
Suggest a boss if you’d like by leaving a comment or a message!

Cipher Academy ch.48 thoughts
[AFK - Away From Karigane]
(Contents: power system analysis)
I'm so relieved that Hanagoromo didn't end up being a sacrifice for drama like I thought, though admittedly I'm sad that Karigane got booted when it seemed like she was meant to be an ally and possible mole for Kogoe
I guess that's not really needed right now since Kogoe seems pretty staunchly on Iroha's side, but it also feels like there has to be a mole in the mix for her to undermine him at the last moment and steal the Morg
...Wait, is the bottom level of the dungeon going to be a morgue?
Anyway, we continue on with the Friendship Arc with the reveal that not only can Iroha near-psychically read people's expressions, but also project his own thoughts to others by making himself easy to read. That adds an interesting little wrinkle to the meta of this story, as not only do enemies need to account for blocking their own expressions now, but they need to find a way to block Iroha's as well
Between this and learning that Karigane can also read people through their hands and Yugata has supernaturally bad luck, I think it's safe to say that we've officially established that Cipher Academy definitely has a power system, just a more subtle one than what one might expect from that term. Because this isn't a battle manga per se, we're not likely to see telekinesis or energy projection or anything like that, but we have already seen what is tantamount to mind reading (Iroha), shapeshifting (Hokiboshi), illusions (Personal Package and the entire concept of the metaverse), super strength (Amvicious), superspeed (Kasuri), and possibly other examples that we just don't have the context to fully understand yet. Just because they have contextually mundane explanations like Yonakiuguisu said doesn't mean that they aren't special abilities, and those abilities will likely go on to define the rules of engagement more overtly as we continue further down the dungeon
The only question is how much focus Nisio Isin intends to put on these abilities. The fact that he explicitly introduced a class full of psychics (though we've only really met one) tells us that it's supposed to be pretty important or at least an accepted fact in this world, but he's also been so sparse with information regarding it and has a reputation for underdeveloping power systems in the past, so it kind of feels like it's just a convenient way to explain how Iroha is able to do what he does
I do really like the idea of a "mundane power system," powers that are so subtle or insignificant that people don't even realize they have them, and with Nisio's talent for subverting established tropes, I think he'd be a great author to pull off a system like that

1. ur really handsome hiii
2. do u believe time travel is possible? if so, what would it take and how would it be?
THANK YOU WUAAAH!!!!! sexiest ask ever intellectually stimulating as FUCK
yes, in a way i do. Not what people think of when they think “time travel”. time isnt real its relative this is just something we all know but what we think to be time travel logically wont play out the way we think it does. we assume time is linear like it is on earth when we conceptualize “time travel”. what i think is fundamentally i think we can go back in time but its more like dimension hopping. i think very soon time travel will be very real, quantum mechanics and reverse engineering on mysterious space debris that defies our very understanding of science today will prove this isnt actually unfeasible. its the essence of the theories of what would happen i just think are so far off. i think we can go back in time and try to change it over and over all we want but its a fixed timeline. Every single detail down to the most minute of actions to prevent some sort of large human-induced event that changes the trajectory of our development societally is futile because the big picture of our history as humans of our timeline will happen in every single variation. like i believe there is some control over this timeline its just the host in control has been afk since.. ages. literal ages haha. i think the being that created us wanted to control us to created a transfixed timeline of events but even though we were created in its image, but we have a certain “spark” the soul the thing that makes us humans at our core and very early on in human history did our creator relent and gave us the wheel and was like here you could have had peace and stability and structure in the timeline but you wanna disobey me fine lets see how much you can fuck it up with the bigger picture of the timeline of the course of human existence still playing out just more like a powerpoint slide with speaking points than an think piece analysis college thesis for a Doctorate. very loose schedule but kind of up for interpretation and very up for disruption & change. But i think very soon we will be able to revisit the past to no detriment to our present or future! the big important ideas are highlighted and immutable idk i hope that isnt like the stupidest most confusing explanation ever. i think and read about consciousness a lot so i have very abstract up in the air ideas about (obviously lol) very up in the air beliefs in the universe. i love threading and tethering the oldest religious practices to see if they challenge these beliefs so im definitely still trying to make sense of it in a way. i loveeee consciousness and timelines
