Pro-family conservatives will tell all the Catholic migrants at the border they are all criminals and systematically separate babies/children from their parents. Then they traffic the stolen kids into 'adoption' through companies owned by Republican donors like Betsy DeVos.
Their opinions mean nothing.
Two dads or two moms means love.
Pro-life or pro-family is just another term for self-centered abuser or abuser adjacent.

(Aftg?)
Hiii!
So this is an idea I had for a soft-ish high school au where the Foxes are all still traumatized, but have been adopted into stable homelife situations and are finally in a position where they can start to heal.
The families are as follows:
Wymack adopts Dan, Seth, and Nicky.
Abby adopts Kevin.
Betsy adopts Andrew.
Randy gains sole custody of Matt and adopts Aaron.
Stephanie adopts Renee.
Allison lives with her grandpa.
And Neil lives with Stuart.
Wymack adopts Seth 1st when Seth’s mom dies. Seth is ~11 (his dad has already walked out by then) when he is adopted. Unfortunately the rest of Seth’s siblings get divided up by the foster system but Wymack is able to help Seth track them down and arrange visits them when Seth wants to.
Wymack adopts Dan next when Dan is thrown into the foster system instead of the care of her aunt cuz her aunt refuses to take custody of her. Dan is ~9 when this happens.
Nicky comes last, when he gets taken away from Luther by CPS for sending Nicky to conversion camp at 13. He is put into and adopted by Wymack.
Abby adopts Kevin after Kayleigh dies cuz as much as Wymack would love to adopt Kevin, at this point he already has 3 kids and can’t really take anymore. Abby volunteers and since Wymack and Abby are moreorless married, for Kevin it’s basically just like as if he’s living with Wymack.
Instead of the Spears, luck of the draw the foster system puts Andrew with Betsy and it’s all pretty straight forward from there.
When Matt is 8, his dad dies, so Randy gets custody of Matt by default. Some years later, Matt wants a younger brother and Randy wants to foster. Luck of the draw and they adopt Aaron. Tilda dies when Aaron is ~9. Luther and Maria are deemed unfit for children (hence Nicky being taken away and ending up with Wymack) so he gets put into the system. Randy adopts him.
Stephanie and Renee is basically the same as canon except Renee is aged down a bit.
When Allison is ~13 and developing her eating disorder, her grandpa takes her out of her parents custody and helps her out.
Neil is living with Stuart because Stuart decides to make his move against Nathan super early, when Neil was about to be given to the Moriyamas. He kills Nathan, but Mary dies in the process. Stuart takes custody of Neil as a result.
Everyone is in the same city and goes to the same high school.
That was a very long set-up explanation lol. The main story would be just general high school shenanigans. Here are some snippets:
Dan crosses her arms. “What do you want then.”
The boy, Matthew Boyd she thinks his name is, holds up a flower, cheeks red. “I—I wanted to give this to you.”
-
Andrew definitely doesn’t have strong feelings about Neil Josten’s lips. Not at all. Because Andrew hates Neil Josten.
-
Andrew pokes Aaron’s cheek. “Stop making my face look weird.”
Aaron scoffs. “Stop being a little bitch then.”
“We are the exact same height.”
-
“I’m not talking to you unless you take off your shirt or something.”
Kevin shrugs, easily pulling his shirt over his head, abs flexing attractively. Andrew glares at his physically toned perfection. Absolutely disgusting.
“Now will you talk to me?” Kevin puts his hands on his hips like a disapproving mother. It’s awfully reminiscent of Wymack and shirtless Wymack is absolutely not an image Andrew wants in his head.
“No,” Andrew says. “Put your shirt back on. No one wants to see that.”
“You literally just said—“
“Andrew!” Bee calls from the house. Kevin scrambles to put his shirt back on just as Bee steps out onto the porch.
Send me a “📓” emoji and I’ll tell you about a fic idea I have that I’ll never write

Could you do a fluffy rooster Drabble where rooster and the reader adopt a Aussie puppy? Like oozing fluff 🥰 if you’re not able to then no worries 🤗 thanks and enjoy your weekend!
Aussies are my one of my favourites, so an Aussie you shall get!
“Rooster, something wildly unimaginable has happened,” you announced, walking into his music room. He looked up, pick between his teeth and frowned as your phone was thrust into his face. Hazel eyes focussing, he saw the Instagram logo and wasn’t as concerned.
“What influencer died?” He asked, returning back to his tuning.
Tumblr media
“What?” You asked, confused. “It’s a puppy,” you showed him again, pointing. “Her name is Betsy!”
“Ahh,” he looked again, a bit miffed. “Cute.”
“Rooster!” You exclaimed. “Did you read the handle? Did you read the wordy bit?”
He sighed, placing his guitar in the case and giving you his attention. He took the pick and tossed it in there too. “Cliff’s Notes?”
“Pup for adoption in SD. It’s an Aussie Shepherd. They don’t just become adoptable. They’re bred. You don’t just trip over one at the pound,” you explained like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“Okay,” he shrugged. And it hit him. “No.”
“Rooster!” You were aghast. “You won’t even go look?”
“I fly out next week.”
“I don’t.”
Oh. He pursed his lips. “You’re going to be lonely,” he realised. “You’ve never mentioned a pet before.”
True. “Yeah, I haven’t,” you admitted. “But look how cute,” you showed him the photo again and he took it a little more seriously this time. It was a good-looking puppy.
“Why would someone hand in a dog like this?”
“I dunno. Maybe a bit of a problem child for the past owner. They’re very intelligent.”
“Problem child? I’m familiar,” he teased.
Your eyes bugged. “You’re not even going to entertain this, are you?”
“A puppy is a lot,” he said softly as you put the phone in his face again, and you knew he was actually reading this time, looking at the little pup. “I don’t doubt you will be a great dog mom. I just can’t help you when I’m gone. You work long hours too. It wouldn’t be fair.”
Sighing, you knew he was right. Argh. You really hated that and left silently. Rooster’s shoulders slumped, hating that he’d disappointed you. But it wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment thing. You’d come around.
You didn’t a day later. Or the day after that. And Rooster found himself doing one thing he never assumed.
“Baby?” Rooster called as you walked in from work. You hummed in reply, exhausted after hours of running kids’ swimming lessons. He smiled, greeting you from the living room. “How was your day?”
“I’m so tired,” you admitted. “I’m gonna take a shower.”
“Okay,” he said.
The sound of a yip came from the kitchen. Eyes raw from chlorine, you squinted at Rooster. “What was that?”
He raised an eyebrow and shrugged. “Didn’t hear any - “
YIP! Yip, yip!
“That was a dog!” You accused him, pushing past him, into the kitchen seeing the pup, about 10-11 weeks old, sitting timidly. You were a new face but she yipped again. “Hi, Betsy,” you got to your knees as Rooster wandered back in and gave you a small smile. “Oh, my God!”
“Surprise?” Rooster said quietly.
“Surprised,” you confirmed, giving him a wide grin. “How did you do this?”
“You were right, she was a bit too much work for her last owner. But the adoption place said she should start puppy training asap, we sleep her in a crate, which I gotta admit, I’m not entirely sold on,” he paused as she bounded over to him and he picked her up. “I had to do this questionnaire about why I’d be a great, and I quote “dog dad”,” he said in air quotes as he stood and brought her to you. “But apparently I passed with flying colours.”
“You went in your flight suit, didn’t you?” You figured, letting Betsy sniff you and finally, she started licking you.
“Yeah, got no shame,” Rooster admitted, cheeks flushing. “There were 54 applicants to get her. We have a cooling-off period if we want to return her - “
“No!” You exclaimed, watching man and pup. And gee, it was sexy.
“Of course not. She’s had all her shots to now. They made no secret that it will be hard and that we will have to be patient. You think we can still do this?”
You nodded vigorously. “Yes, oh my word. She is gorgeous.”
“I got a lead, bowl,” he pointed to the pink metal bowl. “Then went to the pet superstore - a fucking superstore for pet shop. Blew my mind. So she has puppy food, chew toys - “
“You had the time of your life, didn’t you?” You said as Rooster blushed and held Betsy out to you. He nodded. “Not all my ideas are terrible,” you said and Betsy kicked your nose.
“Wanna take her for a walk?” He asked. “I’ve been waiting until you got home.”
“Yeah!” You exclaimed and moved over to cuddle him. “This is amazing, thank you, Bradley.”
“We got this.”

Friday, July 4, 1986. A Way Better Fourth of July.
*****
4:30 pm
Hot dogs, cheeseburgers, macaroni salad. American flags, Bruce Springsteen...
Hyde inevitably lowers his voice, to a jaded whisper. "The song doesn't mean what you think it means."
Down in the shadow of the penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
I'm ten years old, burning down the road
Nowhere to run, ain't got nowhere to go
Kitty, as sharp as a knife, anxiously nudges him. And Jackie swiftly follows suit, as they both hush the seeds of a quiet rebellion. "Shh."
Ignorance is bliss, as Red serves the main course. And Eric serves the macaroni salad.
"I made this, with my very own hands."
Kitty lovingly chuckles. "You used my recipe."
"Well..." Eric nervously laughs. "You got me there, Mom."
The two youngest, away from the gingham-clad picnic table, are happily gurgling in a large playpen. A quiet, raven-haired girl with big blue eyes, and a tiny, curious redhead. The eldest couple's grandbabies, by adoption and by blood.
The older two grandbabies, an olive-skinned boy and a sweet, adorable brunette with blue ribbons in her hair, are munching on small pieces of hot dog and are poking at macaroni salad with plastic forks.
The oldest grandbaby, a seven year old, is reluctantly in the midst of the adults. She feels like she's standing alone, though. The rest of the kids are literal babies, and she's just sort of...there.
But Betsy Kelso takes her duty as watcher very seriously. She even crafted a makeshift badge out of duct tape, just like her dad's.
Like her father, she is prone to hyperbole. "Kate's trying to eat a dandelion."
Eric and Donna nervously glance a few feet over, but are immediately relieved. Instead, Kate has simply picked a dandelion, and is turning it round, and round, and round...
Becca, a few months older and wiser, looks at her like she has two heads. "Gah."
"Aren't they adorable?" Kitty proudly gushes, hand firmly on her heart. "My grandbabies."
Red gruffly groans, but his old heart quietly melts. "You've said that a million times."
"It doesn't make it any less true, Red." Becca is now anxiously crawling around, leaving Kate at a wobbly standstill. "Look, she's exploring."
"She's the one that you need to watch," Red cautions, turning to Jackie and Hyde, "She'll eat the damn...darn dandelions."
Betsy, the fervent watcher, proudly sounds the alarm. "Pop said a bad word!"
Kelso chuckles, as the word "dumbass" is at the tip of Red's tongue. "Get used to it, Bets."
*****
5:00 pm
Dinner is officially over, but the American flags are still fluttering in the breeze. And Bruce Springsteen is still blasting.
Glory days
Well, they'll pass you by, glory days
In the wink of a young girl's eye, glory days
Glory days
Meanwhile, Red and Kitty are proudly perched in lawn chairs, happily clinking their glasses together.
The aging blonde smiles. "You know, I bought that Lee Greenwood cassette."
"God Bless the USA" is a bit corny, even for a proud veteran like him. "I can write a better song than that."
"I'd like to see you try," Kitty lovingly challenges, "I think it's profound. 'And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.'"
"I'd list all the wars." Far from a creative soul, Red concocts a simple list. "Revolutionary, 1812, Mexican-American, Civil..."
She shakes her head. "That doesn't sound like a good song."
"Lee Greenwood isn't even a damn veteran," He gruffly declares, "He's like Eric."
Kitty spies, with her little eye, an adorable little diversion. Hyde and Eric are lying in the playpen, with Hyde propelling a happily squealing Becca in the air, and with Kate lying on Eric's chest.
Then, in a split second, she's back to ground zero. The uncomfortable trenches. "There haven't been any wars for him to fight."
"You know he wouldn't join."
"Well, he'd join the most important ones," Kitty amply defends, before reluctantly acquiscing, "You know he's lippy about 'Nam."
"Don't remind me." He briefly diverts, as Eric compares Becca to the Millennium Falcon. Then, he shakes his head in disdain. "He thinks the Star Wars program is a disgrace to Star Wars."
Kitty sighs, but while happily kicking the can down the road. A tiny pebble, beneath her shoe. "He still hasn't gotten over that Luke and Leia thing."
Red's foot anxiously taps to the rhythm. "Don't remind me."
*****
5:30 pm
He doesn't know why the hell he put in that damn Lee Greenwood cassette.
If tomorrow all the things were gone
I worked for all my life
And I had to start again
With just my children and my wife
Hyde is muttering something rebellious. Eric is nervously shaking his foot to the rhythm. Laurie is...who the hell knows where.
But at least his two sons are there. He doesn't agree with a lot of their politics, or like a lot of their music, but they're good men.
They surmounted the odds. Hyde isn't dead, roaming in a motorcycle gang, or in prison. Eric is still lippy, and still loves Star Wars, but he doesn't let it define his life. He tries to be the hero of the South Side of Chicago, in his own, weird way.
And because of them, their granddaughters are proudly perched on their laps. He has Becca, and Kitty has Kate. Kitty Jr, of course.
All the while, Becca is sleeping in his arms, as the former basement dwellers lovingly coo.
And predictably, so is Kitty. "You think you're Oscar the grouch, but you're not."
He can't help but smile. "I guess my life isn't garbage, huh?"
In turn, she lovingly kisses him on the cheek. "I'd say it's pretty damn good."

finally took some notes to iron out whatever the hell is going on with fuel's mom & nana's parents in the 2thpaste cinematic universe. dropping 'em below the cut in case anyone's curious
-
Fuel's mom is Lisa. She and Lighter had an affair before Nichol & Richie were born, it was a whole disastrous awkward scramble. Stuff like infidelity wasn't supposed to happen in Tazmily - it rattled their utopian fantasy, and perhaps threatened to shatter it. In an effort to preserve the peace (read: the impossible illusion of a forever perfect happy town where nothing unpleasant ever happens), Thomas & the rest of the villagers agreed to sweep it under the rug if Lighter raised the kid. Unspoken tensions lingered nonetheless. Lighter still carries some shame over it, Thomas might still hate Lighter's guts, lmao. Despite the accidental circumstances of his single fatherdom, Lighter rises nobly to the occasion, and turns out to be a great dad. Nasty rumors may have circulated on the downlow when he was little, but Fuel's affable, upstanding, hardworking nature earns some respect back for both him and his father.
Fuel isn't exactly ashamed of how he came into the world, but he's got an understated complex where he feels like his mere existence creates burdens for others. :( The events of the game reinforce this, as he unwittingly holds up the search for Hinawa, blames himself in part for Lucas & Claus losing their mom, takes up useless space on the sidelines while the kid who's been through worse saves the whole goddamn world, and so on, and so forth... He also feels guilty when he contrasts his motherlessness with the twins'. Thinks he's got no right to wish he'd had a mother in his life, when his situation was just a socially unacceptable blunder on his parents' part, rather than something gruesomely traumatic. Fuel had a very distant and awkward relationship with Lisa growing up. Only spoke to her as briefly and politely as he could manage, despite bein' friends with his half-siblings. Graciously, he & Lisa make an earnest effort to reconnect at some point postgame, and are on good terms by the time he's an adult.
-
Nana's mom is Betsy. Her dad's name was Jensen Ketch, and he actually adopted her. Jensen very much wanted a kid, Betsy n' Jackie had an unwanted pregnancy, they gave him the baby. In postgame retrospect, they recall Jensen's dearly beloved wife had died while pregnant on the White Ship. He'd always yearned for another chance to raise a child, but could not bring himself to remarry, even with his memories being wiped. He and Nana were very close. He adored his eccentric autistic transgender daughter, and raised her with far more care than any of his neighbors (or even her blood parents) probably would've.
Jensen's amnesia began coming undone when Nana was 9 or 10. He was plagued by strange dreams, and envisioned a world beyond Nowhere, somewhere past the horizon. (The villagers now rumormonger that, aside from him bein' a generally odd dude, it's 'cause he lived right by the ocean, on the far edge of town. Perhaps the waves sung louder, to him, than Leder's bell.) Troubled and captivated by the sea's uncharted mysteries, he built a sailboat, left Nana with Betsy & Jackie, and departed on a solo survey mission. It was only supposed to last a couple weeks. He sent letters home via pigeon. The last was lovingly poetic, enamored with the beauty of the sun and the sea, eagerly telling Nana he hoped one day she could see it for herself.
(There's a quiet horror in Jensen's fate. He either died at sea, in bright-eyed pursuit of a past that would've mortified him - or really did make landfall on some destroyed continent, succumbing to the inhospitable terrors of the world he'd left behind.)
When his letters stopped coming, the villagers, unable to comprehend such a soft and dubious loss, assured Nana he'd be home any day. She became more reserved in his absence. Before they could start to get too doubtful, Hinawa's death threw everything off the rails. Most folks sorta forgot about Jensen & Nana as the village modernized. She and Lucas lowkey relate deeply to one another, even though her tragedy was so comparatively subdued, folks hardly even acknowledged it.

T9S
Might be interesting to write a fanfic to make this AU of a show make sense (I wouldn’t be the one to do that though, lol).
The point of divergence in canon, I believe, is the T7S season 7 finale (isn’t it always? It’s a nexus point in the show as far as I’m concerned, which makes sense since it was changed once S8 was greenlit).
Kelso and Jackie slept together at the motel before Hyde arrived. They didn’t use protection. Jackie got pregnant.
Which renders much of season 8 completely invalid. New timeline.
Originally, the plan for S8 was for Eric not to have left for Africa after all, unable to leave Donna -- the same as she couldn’t leave him for college in “Magic Bus” (6x03). Josh Meyers was originally an Eric recast, which is how that would’ve worked (but a focus group -- or several? -- had a bad reaction to seeing the originally shot first ep of S8 -- or, at least, the Eric/Donna scenes -- without Topher playing Eric. Hence, Randy was born).
So in the season 8 where Jackie became pregnant by Kelso in the motel, maybe Eric never left for Africa either, which allows more time for Donna to get pregnant on time for Leia to exist.
Or Eric and Donna’s part on S8 isn’t affected at all by Jackie being pregnant, so Donna becomes pregnant New Year’s Eve ‘79, the night she and Eric reconcile.
Season 8, then, would have Jackie and Kelso dealing with her pregnancy. Kelso’s marriage proposal now has an organic motivation --
instead of the S8′s showrunners’ statement (some elements verbatim, some paraphrased and in a different order),  “We never understood Jackie and Hyde’s romantic relationship. We don’t like it, and we don’t think they ever should’ve been together romantically. Tthey were always meant to be antagonists and remain antagonists,” driving much of the plot, as it does in the S8 that exists -- because, you know, fictional characters aren’t capable of growing and changing, and neither are their relationship dynamics according to the S8 showrunners --
and Jackie says yes. This is their first marriage. But Kelso is only half-present (due to AK’s own absence from S8), splitting his time between Jackie and Brooke/Betsy, and Jackie is never sure if Kelso’s remaining faithful. She’s also not actually in love with him, but she’s eighteen and pregnant. She chooses not to have an abortion or give the baby up for adoption, and she’s building her life around being a teen mom.
Very in-character, of course. Very organic storytelling. Just like the premise of T9S. /s
But that’s not the point of my post. T9S negates a big chunk of T7S’s S8, which is also -- officially (according to T7S’s director) “an alternate universe, one of many possible futures.” So T9S is the same. An alternate universe, one of many possible futures. It’s a fanfic but in TV (streaming) show form.
How cool would it have been, however, for the T9S EPs to talk to some of the most consistent T7S fanfic writers (like @that70sshowgoldencouple) who’ve been writing T7S stories for over a decade? We (yeah, I’m including myself because why wouldn’t I? lol) have course-corrected these characters in many different ways. Would our choices and POV satisfy all potential viewers? Of course not. But at least the premise of T9S would make story and character sense.

Excalibur #26 by Tini Howard (writer), Marcus To (artist), and Erick Arciniega (colorist)
Emma Frost: “Betsy, stop this. We need your assistance here, in the real world.”
Betsy: “Don’t. [...] Don’t reduce this to that. As if it’s some fantasy.”
Tini Howard and Marcus To’s run on Excalibur comes to its conclusion in its 26th issue. This series has definitely had its ups and downs, but in the post X of Swords era it’s really come into its own. Knights of X has been confirmed to be the continuation of Tini’s run, which definitely explains why this very much feels like the season one finale of a show that’s finally found its footing, promising more to come.
Things I loved about this issue:
1. It’s so queer! We’re blessed with a Rictor/Shatterstar kiss and moment. We also finally get on panel confirmation of the Betsy/Rachel romance that has been brewing in small hints throughout the run, beginning with Betsy giving Rachel Amazing Baby and continuing with their dance at the Hellfire Gala, as Rachel gives Betsy a kiss on the cheek and talks about how Betsy isn’t just needed, she’s wanted. I know that it isn’t a full blown on the mouth kiss, but I get the sense Howard and To gave us as much as they were allowed to, so I still adored it.
2. Saturnyne’s schemes are revealed. One theme that I have adored in this series is how women deal with misogyny - Roma was trapped under her father’s thumb, Saturnyne is constantly belittled as just a witch, Betsy is discriminated against for being a female Captain Britain. It was really satisfying to see that Saturnyne had worked with Roma to overthrow Merlyn - that Roma was a part of those schemes. It really felt in line with the huge amount of agency that’s been giving to these female characters who are constantly doubted or overlooked by the men around them.
3. Maggie having the emotional intelligence of a child was really sweet - she was scared for her mom! It’s really easy with hyper intelligent children to make them robotic, but I loved that she was allowed to still be a kid AND a genius.
4. The idea that Arthur is a composite of all the legends and stories about him is fascinating. It reminds me a lot as to what happens to those who die in Otherworld and are then resurrected - how they become a mixture of all their selves, scrambled up. It explains a lot about Arthur’s paranoid psychology and the idea that a lot of it is him creating a self fulfilling prophecy about Mordred was interesting. I think it similarly explains Merlyn’s instabilities and Roma’s stability - there are countless of legends about Merlyn, whereas unless I’m mistaken Roma is a unique character to the Marvel Universe.
5. The entire discussion of Otherworld as just some fantasy, that it’s a way for Betsy to escape reality - I think that really speaks to a lot of her character beats. When Betsy was in Kwannon’s body, she went ALL IN on the ninja stuff. Now that she’s Captain Britain, she’s gone all in on the medieval fantasy stuff. I think she has this tendency to just adopt whatever her current role is and make it her identity - she obsesses over things and loses herself in them. Obviously Otherworld is important to deal with, it’s not like she’s lost in a video game, it really is real, but I think it was a great character beat.
6. She’s fighting for a world that hates and fears her. A common critique of the Krakoan era is that the mutants aren’t doing the hated and feared thing anymore - and I think Otherworld is the natural answer to that. Otherworld is where we get stories about how people are scared of the witchbreed, even as Excalibur does all they can to protect them. I also think Otherworld allows for stories that examines an aspect that isn’t possible with Krakoa - what happens when a minority group creates a nation state and seizes land that was previously inhabited. Krakoa has annexed Avalon (and now lost it), which allows for a lot of unique story telling perspectives, especially with the Israel allegory of Krakoa.
7. Gambit fretting over his cats after the lighthouse is destroyed. I love him as a cat dad.
8. Saturnyne continuing to thirst for Brian Braddock.
9. The title change to Knights of X is explained, as Britain is taking the name ‘Excalibur’ back.
Things I’d love to see expanded on:
1. I wish we had gotten more time of Saturnyne and Betsy in the Lesbian Sea of Secrets. Maybe we’ll get some fun flashbacks to that one day.
2. Where’s Mordred? I’d love to see him show up. He’s been such a huge part of the plot with Arthur but has yet to make an appearance.
3. I actually low key would love to see Saturnyne kicking it on Krakoa now? I feel like her and Selene could get together and throw an AMAZING theme party. Maybe slutty tarot? Anyone? Just me?
Verdict: Eight out of ten knights

hello important things pls read!!
even if you don't read my fics this is also important for you!! pls read above the cut!! and if you do read my fics pls read below also!!
thank.
hey howdy hello and welcome!! happy holidays if you're reading this when it comes out!! and if not, then... happy day. yeeha.
ANYWAY!! i am soooo excited to share this with you guys, i've been working on this since SEPTEMBER omg. i finally get to publish and see your reactions and ugh i can't wait!!
from tomorrow until christmas, i will be updating EVERY. DAY. twenty five oneshots all at your disposal unless you're reading this in real time and have to wait for them to be published first.
and, i did it TWICE. that's right, i wrote FIFTY chapters in about two months. yes those are full suitcases under my eyes thank you for noticing.
FOR FOLKS WHO ARE JUST HERE FOR CHAOS AND DONT READ MY STUFF: i’ll be tagging all of these as “cadvent” so if you’re not in the mood to scroll a bit (i will be putting most of the fics under the cut like i normally do, kind of like this, but even still) feel free to block that tag :) and happy holidays!!
hello my darling readers!! welcome to below the cut. i’m imagining we’re all huddling under a parachute together like in elementary school pe rn. so fun.
anyway. every day there will be two new chapters!! one will be ‘vanilla’ cadnis, or the one without my twin oc’s leo and layla, and one will be with the twins. ill specify which in the title and opening notes :) i decided to do each twice because i had so many ideas and i know that kid/family fics are not everyone’s vibe. feel free to read both (please i beg i worked so hard) but if kidfic isn’t your kind of thing i understand.
credits for all the prompts go to bidiboop on wattpad!! i'm about four years late to this but whatever i wanna do it so i'm doin it now. rock n roll. thank you for the beautiful list!!
also!!!! some important shoutouts before we get into this beautiful holiday monstrosity. to my irl friends Kween, Nerd, and BeepBop, as well as @etchedstars and @/julez_20 on wattpad . thank you for letting me vent about this and/or for giving me ideas <333
and last but most definitely not least thank you to my friend bread @/paloma-nymph on wattpad or @/deadbreadrunning on ao3. this would not have happened without you. thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your support and inspiration. and also for making my beautiful covers :) also!!!!! they also did fifty chapters with the same prompts i'm using!!! bread did 25 days of heathers ships and 25 days of mean girls ships so everyone please go support my friend!!
before we get into the fics themselves, i wanted to give y'all some important information that i may or may not have included and didn't give context for (i can't remember!! so. have this.)
-to begin with!! this timeline is all sorts of wack. they do not go in chronological order at all even a little bit.
in an attempt to make things easier i'll put the rough ages cadnis are and the rough ages the twins are in the opening notes of each chapter (bearing in mind that- in my timeline anyway- janis' birthday is in october and cady's is in february, so janis is a bit older)!! i may not have gotten the ages exactly correct bc i cannot do math!!! but give or take a year they're accurate. and even still there's a few little contradictions and things. but shhhh if we don't look too close maybe they'll go away.
-characters!! y'all know the ones in canon (i should hope) but here are some of the ones you might see mentioned:
-Elvira Sarkisian-Heron: Cadnis' pet black cat, adopted about a year after they were married. Occasionally goes by the nickname Ellie
-Daffodil Sarkisian-Heron: Cadnis' pet golden retriever, adopted after Cady completed her PhD when they were 26. Occasionally goes by the nickname Daffy
-Chip Heron: Cady's dad
-Betsy Heron: Cady's mom
-Rhys Heron: Cady's older brother, deceased. He was killed in the line of combat in the army when he was twenty and Cady was ten
-Juliette Sarkisian: Janis' mom. Occasionally goes by the nickname Ettie
-Luca Sarkisian: Janis' dad, deceased. He passed away from an illness when Janis was four. He's also French, that's kind of important
-Juliana Sarkisian: Janis' younger half sister. She was born when Janis was six. Occasionally goes by the nicknames Julie, Jules or Juju
-Pancakes Sarkisian: Janis' pet cat. She had him from the ages of 13-21
-Layla Reese Sarkisian-Heron: The elder twin (by three minutes). Louder, braver, and bigger in just about every sense. Occasionally goes by the nicknames Ladybug, Bug, Lala, or Loopsy
-Leo Juliette Sarkisian-Heron: The younger twin. Shy, quiet, but an absolute sweetheart. Occasionally goes by the nicknames Bumblebee, Bee, Lolo, or Lishy
-Elmer Sarkisian-Heron: Layla's stuffed elephant, received as a gift from Damian and Aaron when she was born
-Georgie Sarkisian-Heron: Leo's stuffed giraffe, also given to her by Damian and Aaron when she was born
other important shit (highly recommend reading my main book if you want more deeeeetails)
-cadnis got together on cady's birthday their senior year of high school (february 11)
-they did long distance for the first two years of university (janis was in new york and cady stayed in illinois. cady finished her undergrad in two years instead of the traditional four, and moved in with janis and damian in new york when they were 20 ish to start working on her master's degree)
-they got engaged right after janis finished her undergrad and cady finished her masters and they were ~22
-the twins' birthday is in may (may 14), so at their youngest they're six going on seven months old here :)
-cady and janis were 28 when the twins were born
-cady carried them
-the twins were born premature by almost two months and spent roughly a month in the nicu
-while cady was pregnant they developed twin to twin transfusion syndrome (in a nutshell, it's when two babies sharing a placenta in the womb don't share nutrients/blood/fluids/etc evenly and it can be deadly to both) and required surgery
and i believe that is everything!! hopefully but who knows lol.
anyway, without further ado...
happy holidays yall :)

some kevaaron for you hungry sluts
Aaron Minyard was going to become a doctor. There were no exceptions, deviations-this was a fact. He grew up what could possibly be considered Hell on Earth, and he wanted to live a normal life. Of course, as soon as he scribbled his messy signature onto David Wymack’s contact that basically sold his soul to the exy coach for five years, he should have known his life would be anything but normal. Aaron should have known when he was adopted by his very much homosexual cousin and reunited with his psycotic twin brother that his life would never be normal.
Kevin Day was going to be a professional exy star. He really had no other option, thanks to the Japanese yakuza. His life wasn’t normal and he knew it was never going to be normal. After leaving The Nest, Kevin had to learn how to be a member of society. He didn’t know how to make friends or be his own person. He didn’t know how to live. Being introduced to the Foxes was a big adjustment, but they accepted him and his crankiness. They were more of a family than he could ever ask for in life.
Aaron, after moving out of the monster’s dorm, would find his way back to the hell pit every so often. Living with Matt meant an endless supply of coffee to fuel his long nights of studying. Yet, there was something missing. Maybe it was Andrew’s cold stare as he drank milk straight from the carton. Maybe it was Nicky’s late night video chats with Erik, keeping them all up with his loud voice. Most of all, maybe it was Kevin’s constant need to be warm.
Aaron swore that dorm room was set at seventy-five degrees, even in the sweltering summer heat. He hated it after a long and hot practice but, now that Matt kept the windows open in the winter, he missed it.
Which is how he, at quarter to one in the morning on December 13th, found himself carrying his bag full of textbooks and a blanket pulled from his bed into the monster’s dorm. Andrew and Neil weren’t anywhere to be found but, Nicky and Kevin sat in the beanbag chairs in front of the TV. Nicky was losing his patience trying to teach Kevin how to play some video game. Kevin looked like he was about to burst a vein in his forehead. They both turned when the door opened.
“Well, if it isn’t my long lost son,” Nicky said happily with a grin.
“Not your son,” Aaron replied, used to this. “I don’t think you could produce a child this good looking.”
“Ouch! Savagely burned by my own flesh and blood!” Nicky dramatically placed a hand to his heart. He fell back against the beanbag. “After all I’ve done for you! I’ve washed your underwear and cum socks and this is the repayment I get? You’re lucky I don’t ground you, mister!”
“Do you know how to shut that mouth of yours?” Aaron practically collapsed onto the couch behind the two, letting out a sigh as he dropped his heavy bag.
“Do you know how to ever take a break?” Nicky retorted, looking back at the cousin with only a face that could be described as a motherly Latino ‘you did not just sass me, child’ face. “Seriously, dude. You’re up until ungodly hours of the night and then you get up at 6 to make it to morning practice. And aren’t you taking like, 18 credits? You sir,” Nicky pointed a finger. “are either a madman or stupid. Probably both if you’re my child.”
“You’re not a medicine major, Nicky. I’ve gotta work twice as hard as everyone else,” Aaron mumbled, shrugging. “Besides, why do you think I came here? Since when have I ever done any work in the presence of your loud mouth?”
“Good point. Want in on next round?” the cousin asked, offering him the third controller. Aaron shook his head. He let himself lean back into the couch and actually rest.
“I just came here to cool off for a few before I head to the library,” he said, pushing the controller away with his foot. His Addias joggers and his high top Chuck Taylors didn’t really go together but he wasn’t known to be the most fashionable. If it was comfortable and he could hide snacks in the pockets, he was sold.
“Suit yourself,” Nicky replied, turning back around. “Another round, Kev?” Kevin lifted his hand and checked the time on his watch.
“I placed some books on hold at the library earlier and they should be ready. I should go pick them up before I get carried away,” Kevin said, stretching his long limbs. His Foxes shirt lifted a little with the action; the small glimpse of bare skin caught Aaron’s eye. He couldn’t help but stare, not noticing that the man had said something to him.
“Earth to Aaron,” Nicky said, waving his hand in front of his face. “C’mon, I know Kevin’s insufferable sometimes but you gotta respect your elders.”
“Fuck you,” Aaron said before turning to Kevin. “What did you say?”
“I said we should go to the library together.” Kevin stood, walking over to his desk to grab his bookbag and dorm keys. “I know you’re practically flunking American history and we can’t have you being benched because you’re an idiot.”
“Okay, fuck you too,” Aaron said. His words had no weight because he stood with his bag. “Hurry up before I change my mind.” The two walked towards the door, saying a quick farewell to Nicky on their way out. Aaron was sure Nicky would be grateful to have a quiet dorm for a while, so he could call Erik. “I need to get my history stuff from my room if we’re doing this.” Kevin nodded and followed the shorter man to the other end of the hall. Aaron unlocked the door, knocking once in case Matt and Dan were practicing for their honeymoon. Stepping inside, he found that it was empty and dark. Matt had left the windows open, yet again, sending a shiver down Aaron’s spine.
“Its cold in here,” Kevin said, blank faced.
“Yeah, no shit dumbass.” Aaron walked over to his desk, flipping on a light along the way. The living area was decorated with a couch and television-both of which were Matt’s. Aaron didn’t care much to decorate. The only thing he needed and had was a picture of him, Nicky, and Andrew pinned on his desk. It was from his and Andrew’s high school graduation and he swore he could almost see a glimpse of genuine happiness in Andrew’s eyes.
“Can I ask a question?” Kevin said, poking around the room.
“You’re gonna ask anyways so get on with it.”
“Am I really that insufferable?” Something in Kevin’s voice made Aaron turn. He frowned once he saw Kevin’s usually cool demeanor turn unexpectedly serious. Kevin didn’t care what anyone thought about him. He only cared about exy. Why was this even a conversation the two were having?
“I mean,” Aaron started, not really sure how to approach this. “you’re annoying but I wouldn’t call you insufferable. What’s with you, man?”
Kevin stood silent for a moment. “Sometimes I hear Nicky telling Erik how mean I am.” Another moment of silence passed. “I don’t want to be like him, Aaron.”
Something inside Aaron’s stomach churned. Kevin didn’t have to say a name for him to know he was talking about his former teammate, Riko Moriyama. It had never occured to Aaron that Kevin had feelings about things over that exy. That was all he talked about and never once brought up emotions.
“You aren’t like him,” Aaron said. His voice was unexpectedly soft. “You’re never going to be like him.” Aaron dropped his bag onto his desk. “Sit down. We’ll get your stupid books later. You want some hot chocolate? That always cheers Andrew up.” Kevin sat himself down on the couch while Aaron crossed the room to make two cups of hot chocolate.
“Do you still think about your mom?” Kevin asked, his voice just as quiet as Aaron’s. “I still think about Riko all the time. I see him when I close my eyes. I can’t sleep hardly because hes...he’s always there. He’s there after eight hours waking me up to go to practice. He’s there counting my calories and picking my food. How do I live when he’s still with me?”
“I think about my mom a lot,” Aaron said, bringing over the hot cup. He handed it to Kevin before sitting down himself. “Not as much as I used to but yeah, I do.” Aaron wasn’t one to talk about this stuff. He liked burying it deep inside him and letting it spill out once a week during his session with Betsy. “Talking about it helped. As much as I absolutely hate Neil with my whole being, he was right. Pushing me towards Betsy was the only right thing he’s ever done. You should try it sometime.”
“I don’t talk to her,” Kevin admitted. “I don’t want her to think I’m crazy or something.”
“She talks to Andrew every week. I think you’ll be on the mild end of her patient spectrum.” Kevin let out a breathy laugh that sent Aaron’s stomach into a somersault.
“I guess you’re right,” Kevin said, looking over at the other. They both sat on either end of the couch, leaning back against the armrests to face each other. “Sorry...For dropping this all on you. You’re really the only one who might get it.”
Aaron waved a hand. “Yeah yeah, its whatever dude. Just drink your hot chocolate before I stop being nice and kick you out.” They both shared a laugh before going back to sitting in silence. Eventually, Aaron turned on a movie and they both just sat. They drank their drinks, keeping their eyes on the screen in front of them. Somehow, Aaron’s legs ended up up on the couch, his feet resting comfortably against Kevin’s thighs. Somehow, Kevin’s hand found itself rested on Aaron’s calf. Somehow, Kevin and Aaron ended up laying, side by side, buried underneath Aaron’s comforter. They slowly drifted to sleep, Kevin’s head on Aaron’s chest. Whatever they were watching was long forgotten in favor of each other’s presence. They weren’t worried about Matt walking in; they were far too sleep deprived to give any thought to it.

The Kids are Alright: Aunt Jackie, the Headcanons...
-Hyde and Eric are adopted brothers, so their children are naturally raised like cousins. They're all very, very close, but the kids tend to end up at her house, because it's nicer. Plus, they're not boring "mom and dad" like Eric and Donna.
-She throws the best birthday parties, ever.
-She spoils her nieces and nephews rotten, just like she spoils her own children. She lets them know that presents aren't everything, though. They're just nice to have, okay?
-Many of her excursions involve going to the mall, or going roller skating, or ice skating. Or, if she's feeling fancy, she takes them skiing. Or out to a nice dinner, if she doesn't feel like traveling.
-She takes her godmother duties very, very seriously. She's their confidant, and so is Hyde, but she only has goddaughters, so they naturally gravitate to her.
-She lets the girls wear makeup way earlier than Donna and Brooke would, so it's their little secret. Well, as long as it's not too obvious. It's blush, not spray paint!
-She loves hosting fashion shows/dress-up days for the girls. Girls are powerful, and they can be cute too!
-She makes her nieces (at the bare minimum, but sometimes, her nephews) watch all of her favorite movies, inside and outside the theater. Grease, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, Clueless, Titanic…
-Plus, she introduces them to ABBA, Madonna, Mariah Carey, etc…
-When the girls are old enough, she gives them her hand-me-downs.
-She gives Betsy her old Nancy Drew collection, her Barbie dream houses (one was the guest house), and her copy of the board game Mystery Date. Betsy only embraces the first, and doesn't really appreciate the rest (Betsy's favorite board game is Operation, by the way).
-She's the one that buys all the American Girl dolls for the girls, and takes them to the American Girl Place when it opens in Chicago.
-She always lets her nieces and nephews go behind the scenes at her show, and sometimes? She lets them be on her show, too, if they want.
-She always has a charity drive on her show, and she lets the kids perform, if they want (think of that one Full House episode, where Stephanie dances to "Love Shack," and you get my drift).
-She teaches girls (and boys, too) they can do anything they set their minds to, and that they deserve the best. They deserve success, true love, and everything else in between.
-She gives not only her kids, and her nieces and nephews, the childhood she never had. Yeah, money is nice, but it can't buy happiness, you know?
Side Notes:
Jackie tends to be exclusionary towards her nephews when it comes to stereotypically girly activities (it's not a problem in my verse, though), and sometimes harps on the nieces that really want to join (*coughs loudly* Leah *cough*). Which is all sorts of problematic, but it's what she would do, so…eh.
Thanks, @lily-267, for the makeup idea!

Honey, it ain’t home

“(Wake up, scum)!”
The voice range into Skaar’s cage and eventually a small grey child sat up and stared back to the cage master. Green on black eyes almost seemed to light up the darkest corner of his cage. Shrinking back from the yelling was never a good thing, so the slave was sure to crawl forwards until he was enough in the light that made the cage master nod with satisfaction.
“(You have a fight later),” They knocked a hand against the cage, red skin pulling back into a smirk when Skaar flinched back and bore his fangs without thinking. The stone of his skin stood out far more than any other slave here. “(Make sure you’re in top condition, the King will be watching).”
No one knew where he came from. No one cared.
The mention of a king got a flinch from him then and Skaar was careful to not say anything that could have potentially set the master off. The last time he had been too loud and the electrified whip across his back - bright flashes he had barely had the time to comprehend before something flew across - left Skaar screaming as wrong coloured blood dripped out of his back.
Greyskin and wrong eyes with wrong blood. He looked every bit like the monster that they all said he was.
The cage was going to open soon. Skaar could see his sword being brought out, the shocking prods with dazzling and painful light as well as a bucket of water to dunk his head into and to wash away the old blood from the before fights. He was kept away from the smooth feeling of Earth and solid cold metal was all he could live and sleep on until he was forced out into the ring. Skaar didn’t know why they were so certain on this, but any idea of asking was immediately followed by the fear of what could come for such a thought.
He would fight and he would kill and then Skaar would scream when he was hurt over and over. It was a hellish life and the only time the grey-skinned monster felt better was when he was asleep and the planet felt like it rocked him to sleep.
The rattling of his cage startled Skaar and he looked up to see the Cage Master banging the pain stick, a smirk on their face as they leaned against the door, water splashing from the bucket in their free hand. Fear cradled his heart and if he wished that someone would save him, please.
“(Let’s get this over with, killer of killers. The less I have to touch a monster, the better.)”
~~~~
Rick screamed, and he hated the fact that it took only eight hits of the cane to do this to him. Sure, he had grown past six, but it still stung his pride far worst than it did physically to know that he was giving Sister Maude what she wanted. He didn’t want to scream for her, listen to the lecture she always gave or the way his back pulled and stretched around his caning injuries later on.
He didn’t know what he had done wrong this time, but it always seemed to be something. Sometimes he was too messy, too loud, just too much for anyone and that was why he was alone. Sister Maude said these things and Rick had nowhere to go so he was stuck here, grunting in pain as cold words were the only thing to soothe him.
“Time after time I warn you about this happening, Richard.” Sister Maude’s scowl could be heard clearly, even though Rick couldn’t see her at the moment, or at least didn’t want to. “You start these fights for, what? Attention? To cause more problems for the poor sisters? Answer me!”
The cane came down much lower than it usually did, and the fourteen year old shrieked when the cane hit much lower than it usually did. Pain rushed up his back and Rick fought to not scramble away. Trying to run would only mean that a worse punishment would follow. “N-no!”
When it finally ended, Rick bit back any last noises, not wanting to give the nun anything else to tell him off over. Besides, it was better that it was Rick on the receiving end of these punishments instead of anyone else. Usually he had it coming, whether it was because he was too loud when trying to learn a new song on the guitar his father had left for him or when he was trying to take away any attention from the younger kids here. No one deserved to be yelled at or made to feel like nothing and Rick had been here long enough that he was used to it.
Besides, it was like Sister Maude always said, Rick had nowhere to go and no one wanted a fourteen year old anymore, he had to keep the younger kids safe so it was up to him to make sure that they got adopted or at least taken to a better place than this. God knew he would want that.
“You won’t be given dinner tonight.” Sister Maude spoke and Rick felt a roll of nausea when he heard that. He already hadn’t eaten for most of the day. “You’ll go straight to your room and if I or any other Sister, must hear that horrific strumming, your guitar will be removed. Am I clear, Richard Jr?”
He wanted to run. Run away and never come back, sink into the ground where his parents were and never come back up.
“Yes Sister Maude.”
“Brian, please.”
Aunt Rebecca’s voice is hushed, like she doesn’t want Jennifer to hear her and Uncle Brian arguing. Or at least, her aunt arguing. Uncle Brian doesn’t seem to really wanting to argue back, which was odd and silly since Jennifer always liked to debate stuff, like when her and Dad would have a mock argument over the pros and cons of eating sugary pancakes for breakfast vs the gross healthy oatmeal Dad always wanted her to eat.
“No Rebecca!” Uncle Brian’s voice was much more harsher and Jennifer was in bed, safe and sound, but she still tensed up and tried to not flinch. Bruce was sleeping on the floor in his own makeshift bed and she didn’t know if he was secretly awake too. “Every time we come here, I have to stand around and see what the hell Elaine lets her kid do, it’s disgusting, she should be ashamed of herself along with Morris.”
“Brian-”
“We only come here because I want you to be happy and apparently what makes you happy is coming to see my family, bringing that wretched monster-” Jennifer’s heart clenched and she fought to look at Bruce. “And to remind me of everything I’ve been through? Isn’t that inconsiderate of you?”
She wants to tell Uncle Brian that he’s wrong. That Jennifer is a really good dancer and she can argue well and her hair is finally long enough to go into those pretty long braided ponytails. Aunt Rebecca was the best aunt, who took her and Bruce to the cool museum and one time that beach and aquarium, but Jennifer knew she wasn’t allowed to talk about that part to Uncle Brian ‘cause she knew that he wasn’t going to be happy about them going to such a cool place without him.
Jennifer secretly thought that everything should have been done without Uncle Brian and they would all be for the better. Aunt Rebecca and Bruce wouldn’t have those awful bruises anymore and Bruce wouldn’t think that he was a monster. But Dad always got this weird look on his face and would glance at Mom and she would just turn away, scowling into the window and not smiling for the rest of the morning or afternoon.
“We aren’t going to come here anymore.” Her uncle’s hushed voice drew Jennifer’s attention away form her thoughts again. “I don’t want to be here. I don’t want to see all of these reminders of being a fucking child again.”
Aunt Rebecca must have tried to say something, because there was an odd noise before he kept on talking. “It’s sick. I feel sick looking at Elaine’s kid in those dresses. Everything here is sick and I have half a mind to know what’s causing it-”
His voice came closer then, like Uncle Brian was reaching for the door handle and wanting to come into her room. Jennifer pulled her covers up higher and she didn’t miss the hitching noise that came from the floor. The only thing that stopped her from calling out to her parents was when Aunt Rebecca’s voice rose somewhat. Not a lot. She never yelled as a choice.
“Okay, okay.” Her voice sounded soothing now. “We’ll leave first thing tomorrow and- and you wont have to come back here. I’ll make something up to Elaine and Morris.”
“Or you. I don’t want you coming here either, Rebecca. I need you with me.”
“...Okay.”
The voices faded away more from her door and Jennifer blinked in the dark. She didn’t feel tired anymore though, instead, Jennifer felt wide awake and like she had just missed a step of the stairs or like she was standing on a tall bridge, ready to fall at any moment. She wanted to say something, but Bruce had curled up further into his bed and Jennifer didn’t want to wake him up just in case he had been able to fall asleep.
She didn’t think either of them would be able to sleep again if one of them said something.
~~~~
The plumes of smoke rose into the air, forming from such intensive heat that Thad was shocked that it didn’t go anywhere further. The summer day was hot, the kind where you wanted to sit with some ice cold lemonade or to run as fast as you can through New Hampshire trails with friends laughing and chasing you, eager to win the game.
Momma- Mom was waiting back at the farm where Mr Thomas was gonna show Thad those frogs by the river after he had helped her out with some chores Mom had shooed him away from, claiming that he was young enough to not have to worry about helping out so much. Thad wished that she would let him help, let him be useful enough around the house, especially now.
He had always liked red and orange and yellow. Warm colours, colours of war that Dad had always said fit Ross men. Aunt Betsy would always smile at these colours falling from the trees before threading her fingers with Uncle Jeff’s hands.
These warm colours blended and danced together, threading into the sky in a swirling blaze that could bring tears to anyone’s eyes, even a man’s.
The heat caught Thad strongly and even though he was standing far away enough for it to be safe, the heat still made it hard to breathe, like the air itself wanted to take everything away.
But it already had done that, just not to Thaddeus.
The roaring of the flames mixed with the odd ringing in his ears and while Thad couldn’t feel the energy to rub at them, he still winced slightly at the sound. The ringing was joined by a horrible screaming, the kind of screaming that you only heard once and never wanted to hear again ever.
Henry was nearby, screaming and tearing at the ground and himself. He was strong for a ten year old, only a year older than Thad, due to the boxing lessons he took up. Thad would watch him sometimes and the sun on his face would only flush him further as he laughed and watched Henry hit the heavy sandbag. Henry offered to teach him some stuff and Thad found himself eager for it.
Only now though, Henry didn’t seem to have any of that same easy-going assurance. His voice was raw from screaming for the past hour, struggling from where Mr Thomas has rushed over when the explosion hit and had immediately taken Henry into his arms, holding tight to ensure that the ten year old couldn’t run into the flames.
Henry wouldn’t look at Thad. Green eyes were glassy with terror and tears and he screamed harder towards the flame, directing Thad’s attention over to it.
He didn’t want to look. But Henry’s father was in the plane, the centre of fire, and he had finally stopped screaming himself. Thad looked and felt his chest clench with..something. He didn’t want to know what, didn’t want to give it a name as he stared into bloodshot and burning as his previously white skin went all sorts of hues of red and black, charring and burning and rotting away.
He stopped struggling and he stared and he gaped and Thad thought he would have screamed if he could.
Mr Thomas screamed at Thad to get away and later on, his aunt and uncle and mother and Mr Thomas would fuss over him. Dad would slap him on the back and tell Thad that this was a lesson in shirking his duties for personal reasons. Thad would be sick and he would dream of burning red hues and charred skin for the rest of his life. He would look into a mirror one day and see the same horrible hues and blackened eyes staring back at himself.
For now, Thad stared.
~~~~
“God dammit, Robert,” Daddy’s voice was high and dizzy and Bruce maybe would have sounded the same way if he could talk right now. “What did you make me do?”
Mommy was on the floor and red coated the ground around her and tinted the top of her dress and Bruce wasn’t anywhere near her because Daddy was too close and Daddy would do the same to Robbie and he felt sick and he felt that feeling where he got angry and something made him want to scream and run but his legs felt too buzzy like the tv static and he couldn’t run there was nowhere-
“Look at me!”
The voice sounded like a monster now and Robbie stared up with wide eyes, glassy and wet and his chest heaved with everything bad in the world. Daddy had blood on his hands.
He looked like he wanted to have Robbie’s blood on his hands too.
He felt sick.
Robbie’s head didn’t feel like it was working right now and that was never a good thing when Daddy was staring and looking so angry. His green jacket was tainted now and Robbie was only glad that he didn’t have the same rushing feeling of the monster in his head - the other monster that wasn’t him - wanting to scream and hit Daddy back.
“You made me do this. You made me into this.” Daddy snarled and he stunk of his drinks and Robbie couldn’t even flinch back without his head hitting into the car. “I could have been better, Robert. Rebecca was going to fix me. She was making me better and then you came along and it was all just a giant fucking reminder that I can never have anything good.”
He stepped forward and this time Robbie’s head did smack into the car. He didn’t wince though, he had been hit harder.
Daddy’s chest heaved and Robbie wished that a sorry could fix this all. He was sorry he was born and made Mommy feel like she had run away, sorry that he made Daddy so unhappy. But his head felt like it was full of cotton and thoughts slid away and feelings took their place of screaming grey static.
Robbie’s eyes fell onto the green jacket Daddy wore, right where green was tinted with the red and they stayed there.
He wished Daddy could say sorry for taking Mommy away though.
Daddy loved Mommy, but he didn’t seem to care about the fact that Robbie loved her too.
Mommy didn’t move from the ground. She must have been cold there and Daddy didn’t seem to know what to do about that. He stepped away, covered his mouth and paced for a little while. Robbie heard sirens and Daddy screamed into his hands, a muffled and agony filled noise that made Robbie flinch back again, a hollow bang following it easily.
“You...” Daddy sounds hoarse now. The bad scary when he came into Robbie’s room sometimes, standing near the big monster and he would stare for an hour before leaving again. “You aren’t going to let them know it was me because it wasn’t, okay? It was you, it was always you!”
Stepping closer, Daddy seems to loom over him, the same way the scaled monster in Robbie’s room does.
“You made me into this because that’s what monsters do. Rebecca...Rebecca loved you for some deluded reason and she wanted you to live so-” Daddy laughs wetly and Robbie wonders what’s so funny. “So you’re going to live. Live with what you did to me and her and you will never forget this, no matter what-”
And then he leans down and Robbie stares into brown eyes that are dilated and he notices a smear of blood on Daddy’s cheek. “You’re heartless Robert. You kill everything near you, monster, but I won’t let you kill me.”
He stepped away then and the sirens were closer and Robbie felt like static grey and blood tinted green were all that he could feel and see. A small sob finally slipped out of him.
Robbie wished that he wasn’t the only monster, that maybe Jen or the monster in his head was real so they could be here and share a hug or try and help him take away some of that awful feeling in his chest.
He reached out a finger and caught it in the stiff pinkie of Mommy. She was still warm and even though Robbie wanted to hug her, he resisted that urge.
This was good enough for a monster like him.
~~~~
“No! Put it down, Phil!” Sam stared in horror and horror was the correct word right now because his brother was currently holding his most important book, the one that Mommy had given him before she left.
She was going to be back soon, it had only been a week, but until then Sam had thought it would be good to keep the book she had given him safe, especially since she would want to read it with him when she got back. It was all about sharks and their different habitats and Mommy liked it when she could have fun talks with Sam afterwards and even about who would win in a shark fight to the death.
But now, in his big brother’s hands, Sam feels his worrying problems push themselves to the front of his mind and he feels like it’s harder to breathe when he doesn’t have the book.
His brother wasn’t nice at times, the bruises up his chest and arms and the missing tooth proved that, Although Mommy and Dad said a lot that it was an accident, right? And Phil was nicer when Sam agreed that it was an accident. Phil didn’t mean to play so roughly, or to push Sam about hard enough for him to get hurt, but it still sent thrums of panic up his back to see his book in Phil’s hands.
“Why should I?” Phil was already taller than him by lots, despite being thirteen. He grew a lot over the summer and that only served to make him so much more scary when Sam was still eight and waiting for his own growth spurt. Sam tried to keep it to himself, but maybe Phil knew, especially when he got this weird smile on his face when he stepped closer and Sam had to look up.
“Mommy gave me-”
“Mommy gave me!” Phil copies him and he makes his voice so much higher than it needed to be and Sam’s face feels hot and awful at it. “Do you hear yourself? All this talk of being some sort of big boy now and you’re still too stupid to know that Mom isn’t coming back.”
“She is!” Sam argues back and he feels his chest clench already, panic and bad ideas forming at the words.
What if she wasn’t coming back? What if she got hurt and couldn’t and-
What if she didn’t want to come back?
Phil seems to catch some sort of look on Sam’s face and his smile turns ugly and Sam wants to back away and run but Phil still has his book and the last time he did that, his brother had grabbed him by his then-long hair and had yanked hard enough that Sam had a headache for hours. It was part of the reason why Sam had gotten Momm- Mom to cut it all off.
“She doesn’t want to come back and why would she?” Phil stepped closer and jabbed a finger into Sam’s chest, ignoring the small cry of pain. “Dad just sits on his ass all day and only gets up to yell at us now, nothing I do ever seems to be good enough for him or her and don’t even get me started on you!”
Maybe he shouldn’t ask, but Sam’s chest feels so tight now and he knows he should try the breathing exercises Mom tried to show him, but he can’t right now. Everything is piling up more and more, like the dishes in the kitchen that are starting to smell.
“What about me?”
“You, Sam Sterns, are a freak.” Phil practically spits the word and Sam tries to not flinch. “You’re annoying and talk so goddamn much so no wonder Mom wanted to leave when you’re always causing problems over being scared of everything or wanting to look different and I’m so fucking sick of sharks!”
He swore and Sam stared with wide eyes, but a wail escaped him when Phil seemed to reach the height of his anger and ripped out pages of the book. Sam reached over for it but Phil shoved his hand into Sam’s face and roughly shoved him away, ripping more pages out and chucking them into the mud.
His book was ruined. The pages were too torn up now and dirty to read and nothing would fix it. Tears rose to Sam’s face and he shoved a hand into his mouth to bite down on the oncoming sob from his book being ruined. The hurt in his chest grew and he felt like screaming and he was shaking now, hands reaching down to touched the ruin pages and his fingers shook as he touched muddy ruined words.
He didn’t want to say anything else, not when breathing was so hard right now and his face felt flushed. Phil just stood over him and he knew that he was going to have worse.
Later that night, after a trip to the medial room, Dad didn’t even bother asking how Sam broke his wrist. The mud and tears and ruined book seemed to be enough for him.

Neil’s Photos
So I saw a post about pictures in the Fox Lounge and it got me thinking because Andrew canonically gets Neil a camera when he notices that Neil really likes taking pictures, right? I like to think that Neil absolutely covers the walls of his apartment in pictures because it reminds him that he has family now. So I present to you, pictures that can be found around the Josten-Minyard apartment:
There are so many pictures of the cats
Just the cats sunbathing in the window, playing with their toys, eating
One picture that Andrew really loves of Sir and King in the bath. Sir looks absolutely content and relaxed, but King is NOT having it
Neil managed to catch one of King jumping off the counter and at Nicky when he was visiting
Nicky is in the process of running away and King looks vicious
There’s (obviously) a ton of exy-related pictures, even though it’s hard for Neil to have his camera during practice and after games
One of Matt smiling at Neil behind the camera and pointing to the scoreboard of a game they won
One of Allison carrying an exhausted Renee bridal style off the court. They’re both smiling ever so softly at each other
One of Nicky and Aaron clacking sticks in lieu of high-fiving
There are at least five pictures of Andrew staring menacingly at the camera (Neil) from the goal
There’s one where Kevin is perched atop Matt’s shoulders during practice looking absolutely goofy, something he doesn’t often look during exy practices
One of Allison and Nicky hip-bumping after SLAYING their homophobic opponents
(Neil got that one from the sidelines after getting benched for punching said homophobic opponents)
One of Kevin and Wymack tearfully embracing after Kevin won his last game at PSU
One of all of them (the original nine) at the girls last game
Allison is holding Renee’s hand and holding seths jersey in the other, Kevin is sandwiched in between the twins, Nicky and Neil have their arms around each other, and Dan and Matt are laying on their sides in front of the group
There’s one of Kevin fist-bumping Neil at one of their late night practices, and they both look so happy (Andrew took it from the bleachers but if anyone asks he denies and says it must have been the phantom of the exy stadium)
There are also a bunch of miscellaneous photos from their time at PSU
Kevin passed out in the booth at Eden’s
Andrew eating the last of Neil’s ice cream at Sweetie’s and flipping off the camera
Kevin and Andrew studying together
Aaron and Katelyn holding hands on the sidewalk
Nicky and Allison gossiping while baking cookies
Matt giving Dan a kiss on the cheek on the dorm couch
There’s one picture of everyone laying on the ground sleeping after one of their impromptu movie nights and sleep overs
The girls painting each other’s nails
Renee and Andrew sparring-Neil likes this specific one because Renee looks particularly badass (he warms up to Renee and watches them pretty regularly to try and pick up some moves)
Kevin flipping Aaron the bird while simultaneously laughing at something he said
Everyone smiling at the camera from the dinner table at Abby’s house for Thanksgiving
One of Andrew on the roof, illuminated only by the moon and his cigarette lighter, with his hair rumpled and he’s looking less apathetic than usual
One of Betsy and Andrew drinking iced coffee together at the campus coffee shop
Even after they all graduate Neil is as vigilant as ever
Matt and Dan exchanging vows at their wedding
Nicky holding up his hand and showing off his engagement ring while he and Erik share a kiss in the background
Aaron smiling with Katelyn after he graduates med school
Aaron and Andrew each holding a twin with Katelyn dead asleep in the hospital bed right after the twins were born
Kevin, his wife, Wymack, and Abby on the day of Kevin’s wedding-he had called them Mom and Dad in his speech and everyone looks suspiciously misty-eyed
Dan and Matt surrounded by their kids in their kitchen while they cook dinner for Andrew and Neil who are visiting
Nicky, on the ground of the animal shelter, surrounded by dogs as he tries to choose which one to adopt-Erik is looking adoringly at him from off to the side
Abby and Wymack on their couch, yelling at the TV while watching one of Kevin’s games
Allison and Renee sitting on a blanket in the park with their kids during a picnic with Andrew and Neil. They’re all wearing matching sun hats and they all look ethereal
There are a couple of pictures of friends Neil meets after he and Andrew settle down in Denver, sitting together at restaurants and bars
A BUNCH of Andrew sleeping around the apartment
On the couch, on the floor, sitting up in a chair, sprawled out on the balcony, in bed
There are also many pictures of Andrew and Neil together during their travels, but Neil’s favorite is them under the Eiffel Tower because Andrew turned his head at the last second to give Neil a kiss on the cheek
There’s only one picture of just Neil, and Andrew took it. Neil is holding a cigarette and leaving over the rail of their balcony, and he looks beautiful against the city skyline. Andrew unabashedly frames it and puts it on his bedside table because, “I like having pictures of people who mean the most to me, too, junkie.”
Well I know that was just me rambling and this list is littered with my own personal headcanons with absolutely no background or context given, but I love this concept and had to write it. I hope you enjoyed!

If Andreil adopted Sir and King at a campus adoption drive
The Foxes cuddling animals at an adoption drive on campus and some of them get too attached. TW: None 3,277 words
Neil wasn’t surprised to find the upperclassmen and Nicky outside his classroom building, it was a Thursday and the group had realised they all had Thursday afternoons off. It had become a bit of a team building exercise, but without the new recruits who often had tutoring at this time, and a way for the Foxes who had survived the year before as a family to stay close. Nicky always brought Aaron with him, and because Neil had asked Andrew to go every week, Kevin went with them. The twins and Kevin were always the last to arrive because their classes were further from Neil’s than the others’, but Neil still wasn’t sure why his classroom was the meeting point. Nicky was talking excitedly about a new restaurant that wasn’t a far drive from campus that they could go to for lunch, which sounded like a good idea to Neil because he was getting a little tired of visiting the same places downtown as they always did. Matt bumped Neil’s shoulder when he joined the group and smiled in return to Renee and Allison. Dan looped an arm over his shoulder and leant on him a little bit as they waited, listening to Nicky. Neil glanced in the direction Andrew and the others would come and saw him walking towards them between Aaron and Kevin. Dobson had been working hard on the twins and their issues, and there was slow process, but just seeing them walking next to each other was a milestone even though it had been happening for a few days now. Andrew was swigging from a large stainless-steel drink bottle that Neil realised with surprise was Aaron’s and when he handed it back to his twin, Nicky grabbed onto Neil’s elbow tightly.
“Are they sharing? Like actually?” He asked and Neil shook his hand off him.
“Yeah, Betsy must be doing her job,” he said. Nicky grinned, but wiped it off his face as the trio got closer so as not to draw his cousins’ ire.
“Hey guys,” Matt said. Kevin nodded at him, Andrew stared impassively past him and Aaron claimed his spot next to Nicky.
“How was class?” Renee asked, looking at Andrew, but talking to everyone.
“Interesting,” Kevin said and then hesitated. All he ever really wanted to talk about was Exy, but he was a history major and if someone asked him when he was in a good enough mood, he would sometimes talk about some of the things he learned in his classes. Renee smiled invitingly and the group set off across campus towards Fox towers to their cars with Kevin murmuring quietly to Renee about his last class. Allison was talking to Matt and Dan about some gossip or another and Nicky was telling Aaron about the new restaurant. Neil was at the back of the group with Andrew with their pace matched stride for stride. They weren’t talking, but his familiar presence was comforting and reassuring, and when Andrew shifted his book from his left hand to his right, Neil turned his palm in waiting. Andrew interlaced their fingers and Allison was the only one to notice. Neil had no idea how she did it, but it was always Allison who was the first, and often only, Fox who caught them in their infrequent and subtle forms of PDA.
They were halfway across campus when Andrew stopped in his tracks, looking intently past Neil and his grip tightened. Neil squeezed back, if only to remind Andrew that he was squeezing Neil’s fingers, and followed his gaze. There was a raised red and white tent roof to the side of a common walkway and under the tent was a fence. Neil looked closer and saw that the sign boasted that it was Mental Health Week on campus and that inside the high fence was animals to be cuddled and played with to boost student morale. Neil looked back at Andrew with a raised eyebrow.
“What?” He asked and Andrew glanced at him. The other Foxes had realised they weren’t being followed and paused a few steps ahead, looking back at them curiously.
“Animals,” Andrew said, as if that answered Neil’s question.
“Yes,” Neil agreed carefully, “So…?” Andrew let go of Neil’s hand and walked off in the direction of the tent and fence. Neil stared after him and then looked at the group.
“Is he serious?” Matt asked, pointing at Andrew.
“I thought psychopaths killed animals, should we stop him?” Allison asked breezily. Renee and Aaron shot her disapproving looks and Allison shrugged in response.
“Are we going after him?” Dan asked Neil. They did that a lot, asked Neil what they should do when it came down to Andrew and even though he knew it was because Neil understood him better than anyone, Neil wished they would think for themselves sometimes.
“I think he wants us to,” Neil replied and turned on his heel to jog after his boyfriend. Andrew let the animal handler squirt sanitiser on his hand as Neil caught up and he went in through the gate straight away. Neil watched from outside the gate as Andrew found a corner and sat down, not looking up at any of the Foxes as they arrived. Nicky and Renee accepted hand sanitiser and went in too, sitting down away from Andrew and near some sleeping rabbits. Kevin followed wordlessly and immediately went over to a platform that held cages of mice or rats or hamsters and wiggled his fingers in the gaps. Allison wrinkled her nose at a puppy as it pawed up the fence to her, but her eyes softened as it let out a pitiful whine and then she too was rubbing sanitiser on her hands and scooping the puppy up from inside the fence.
“Are you coming?” Dan asked as she rubbed her hands together. Matt opened the gate for her and Aaron and stepped in behind them and when Neil shook his head Matt shot him a curious glance.
“Are you scared of them?” He asked and Neil shook his head again. Matt eyed him for a moment before joining Allison and Dan with two more puppies. Neil watched as his teammates cooed and cuddled the small animals, and then his gaze found Andrew again. He hadn’t moved, he wasn’t even holding or petting any animals, but he was watching a handful of sleeping kittens near where he sat. The look on his face was calm, like always, but it wasn’t a blank calm. His eyes were soft and his lips were relaxed as he sat cross-legged on the grass with his hands on his knees. Neil hadn’t lied exactly, he wasn’t scared of animals, but he wasn’t sure of them. He had never had a pet in his life, and he had been forced to carve up dead animals when he was young although he had never been the one to kill them. When he was running with his mom, he hadn’t even been allowed to pet dogs on the street and it wasn’t like they’d ever visited a cat café on their travels. He didn’t really know what to do, and he didn’t understand them, and watching his teammates fawn over baby animals didn’t really make sense to Neil. They were cute, sure, but he didn’t understand the appeal to get into a cage full of them and cuddle them. Andrew looked up then and with one quick curl of his fingers, gestured for Neil to come into the pen. Neil shook his head, but Andrew cocked his head to the side and did it again. If Andrew was anyone other than Andrew, Neil might have mistaken the look in his eyes as pleading. Neil hesitated, huffed out a breath and then took some of the hand sanitiser and stepped inside. Nicky had a bunny in his arms and Renee was stroking its ears, while Aaron knelt on the ground near them carefully petting a sleeping tan and white puppy as if scared it was going to wake up. Kevin had opened the cage and was holding a rodent of some kind in one hand and staring at it curiously before putting it on his shoulder and putting his hand back in the cage. Dan, Matt and Allison were grinning and giggling as awake puppies climbed over their legs and nipped at their fingers. Neil picked his way around animal poo and his weird teammates to sit down gingerly next to Andrew on the far side of the kittens.
“Why are you being weird?” Andrew asked and Neil gaped at him.
“Me being weird?” He demanded and Andrew waited for a response. “What do you mean me? You have never once been interested in anything ever and then took off up a hill for baby animals,” Neil pointed out. He then gestured at the group around them and pulled a face. “Every single person in here is capable of extreme violence with the exception of maybe Nicky, but him I would expect this from, and here you all are gooey over small things with four legs.” Andrew watched him for a minute before turning away and reaching over to the nest of sleeping kittens. He scooped up the second smallest one, white with black ears and a spot a little off centre to his nose and plopped it in Neil’s lap. Neil stared down at it with muted horror and discomfort and watched it stretch at being woken up, paw at Neil’s shorts and roll onto his back. He licked his paw and scrubbed at his ear for a moment before curling back around and closing his yellow-green eyes. “Your survival instincts stink,” Neil told the kitten, but his voice was quieter than he had intended. He purred in response and Neil hesitantly used a finger to touch his back. his fur was soft and fluffy and warm from where he had been sleeping with his brothers and sisters in the sun. He rolled again at his touch and curled around his finger, his eyes still closed and his tongue poking out, pink against the white and black. He looked up at Andrew with his eyes wide. “Now what do I do?” He asked.
“Have you never patted a cat before?” Andrew asked.
“I have never, in my life, pet any animal,” Neil said seriously. Andrew’s lips twitched and he shrugged.
“Do whatever you want, he’s asleep, he won’t care,” Andrew said and then turned to pick up the smallest kitten. This one was all gray and when he was scooped up, he woke and mewed in surprise. Andrew leaned against the fence, stretched out so his feet touched and put the cat in the pen he had created with his legs. He tapped the ground near the kitten and watched him pounce at his fingers. He gently flipped the kitten onto his back and let him bat at his fingers as he teased him. Neil watched in awe as his joyless, steely boyfriend played with the kitten. Andrew’s face didn’t change, stayed relaxed and calm, but otherwise lacking a smile, but Neil could see how much this was giving Andrew. After a long while he looked down at the kitten asleep on his legs and wiggled his finger. He didn’t even stir, but he started purring again and his small baby claws held tighter to Neil.
“You’re boring,” he told him, but he could feel his distrust melting away and being replaced by a soft warmth. Both for the kitten on his lap oblivious to the friendly chaos around him, and for the man at his side playing with a kitten.
“Where do they come from?” Renee asked the animal handler.
“They’re all rescues, even the hamsters,” the handler replied, gesturing at Kevin who had four small creatures on his shoulders and in his hands. He was smiling, his genuine not-for-the-camera smile and Neil shook his head at him. “They’re all up for adoption,” he added, “this campus is pet friendly I was told.” It was clear the gentleman was hoping the students at Palmetto would adopt the animals, but Neil wasn’t sure if they would all go.
“Have any been adopted?” Allison asked, holding one end of a toy as a puppy growled and pulled on it playfully.
“Three of the puppies have been adopted by staff,” the handler said, pointing at three of the seven puppies in the pen. None of the puppies looked like the same breed, Neil realised, which meant they weren’t related. Neil felt a little sad for them then, hoping that their litter mates had all been adopted or kept by wanting owners.
“Any others?” Renee asked, smooching a rabbit’s long black ears.
“Nope, not yet, you interested?” He asked.
“How much for this little guy?” Nicky asked, proffering the smallest, dappled bunny in the air. Aaron and Matt both stared at him, Matt in surprise and Aaron in warning.
“We are not keeping a rabbit in our dorm,” Aaron snapped.
“Why not?” Nicky asked and showed Aaron his small paws. “He is the cutest thing I have ever seen; we have to keep him.”
“We aren’t rescuing strays,” Aaron snapped, and more than one Fox laughed.
“Since when?” Allison asked, gesturing at Neil and Kevin and then at the rest of her team.
“Yeah, and I took in you and him,” Nicky added, tilting his head to Andrew who now had the gray kitten in both hands and was holding it up to his face.
“We don’t have a hutch thing,” Matt said, but he was talking reasonably not warningly.
“All the animals except the hamsters are litter trained, he doesn’t need a hutch, just a litter tray and a bed,” the handler said. Matt rose to his feet and crossed to Nicky and the small rabbit, stroking his brown and dappled ears. Aaron’s mouth was wide open as he stared at the two of them and Dan was grinning. The bunny was so small it could fit in one of Matt’s hands as Nicky handed it over.
“Does it chew on anything?” Nicky asked and the handler smiled in amusement.
“It’s a rabbit, of course it does, but it won’t chew on cords if you give it enough toys to chew on,” he said, and Matt waved his free hand.
“We can also put padding around the entertainment unit and keep our room shut,” he said easily.
“Are you guys being fucking serious?” Aaron demanded. When he was ignored, he glared at them for a moment longer and then let out a long sigh. “Does it need a friend or are rabbits okay on their own?” He asked. Neil, Matt, Nicky and the girls turned to stare at him. Even Kevin and Andrew lowered their small animals a little to look at him. Aaron ignored them and waited expectantly for the handler to respond.
“They are usually better with a friend,” he said honestly, “and his friend is the little black one in his girlfriend’s arms,” he added, gesturing at Renee and Nicky. Renee smiled and handed the small black bunny to Nicky who was frowning at her being called his girlfriend.
“I’m gay,” he said, but the handler clearly didn’t care.
“Has our lunch really been postponed so that we can buy bunny supplies?” Allison asked as Matt, Nicky and Aaron filled out the adoption papers and listen to what rabbits eat and how to care for them. Neil wasn’t paying much attention because the kitten in his lap had woken up and was hopping around on his legs and following his finger playfully. The gray kitten in Andrew’s hands had fallen asleep on his shoulder and Andrew was stroking it gently.
“And kitten supplies,” Neil said, without thinking. Andrew jerked his gaze to Neil and his nostrils flared, the only sign that Neil had surprised him.
“No,” Kevin said firmly, but Neil waved him away.
“Excuse me?” Nicky asked, looking over at them. He melted at the sight of his joyless cousin stroking a baby kitten on his shoulder and he nodded. “Good call Neil,” he said.
“Are you serious?” Allison asked, “did I not say that psy-” Renee and Dan cut her off with reproving looks and she closed her mouth, smiling at them. “This is going to be interesting,” she decided.
“Wymack is going to freak when he finds out we’ve done this,” Matt said, but he was smiling at the animal in his arms. Neil shrugged and picked up the kitten, holding it towards Andrew who didn’t even hesitate to take him and put him in the pen of his legs, letting him chase his fingers.
“Let Wymack freak,” Neil said, leaning over the table next to Nicky and Matt to fill out his own forms. The handler rattled off the things that they would need and how to look after the cats, and when Neil glanced at Andrew, he saw that he was paying attention so Neil stopped. Matt and Nicky paid the adoption fees for the bunnies and Neil handed over the money for the two kittens, and then they joined the others outside the pen. Andrew came out last, Neil’s white kitten in his hands and he handed him back to Neil so that he could cradle the sleeping kitten safely off his shoulder for the walk. Allison came over and smiled approvingly at the white kitten before joining Dan in her adoration for the bunnies as they walked. Kevin and Aaron were walking together behind them, shaking their heads and murmuring to each other; probably about how annoying their roommates were. Renee sidled up to Andrew and peered down at the small creature in his hands, her gaze already soft and loving.
“What are you going to name them?” She asked and looked at Neil too. Neil was a little distracted because his kitten was well and truly awake and kept trying to wriggle out of his hands to the sidewalk.
“Can we call this one ‘Little Bitch’?” Neil asked, hissing as he clawed at his hand.
“This one is King Fluffkins, and yours is Sir Fat Cat McCatterson,” Andrew said. Neil burst out laughing as he looked at his boyfriend’s profile.
“Are you serious?” Neil asked after a minute and when Andrew nodded, asked him why.
“Because I hate them,” Andrew said and dropped a kiss to King Fluffkin’s head. Neil grinned and looked down at Sir Fat Cat McCatterson.
“Did you hear that?” He asked him, “he hates you just as much as he hates me.”
“No,” Andrew said, meeting Neil’s eyes. “I hate you more,” he said. Neil smirked and stopped so that he could kiss his boyfriend quickly with their kittens in their hands. When he pulled back, he was unsurprised to meet Allison’s gaze. He shook his head and looked at Renee.
“Do you like the names?” He asked her, but she was still smiling in amusement.
“Can we call them King and Sir?” Renee asked and Andrew nodded.
“Yes, because no one except us three are going to know what I actually named them,” he said. Neil and Renee smiled at each other and fell back into step beside Andrew. Matt and Nicky were waltzing up the sidewalk towards Fox Towers with their rabbits held up as if to show the world their new additions. The rabbits looked calm and comfortable in their new owner’s big hands, even if they were an awful long way off the ground, and Neil was grateful that they had chosen the calmest rabbits in the world to live with them.
