#acxa keith siblings theory

Did you know the theory about Acxa where she and Keith are siblings? I believe that Keith's surname is Kogane, so i think even Acxa's surname will be Kogane when she will find out. Just imagine this conversation between her, Zethrid and Ezor like...
Acxa: "Well done! Now I have a surname, that means I'm more important than you two!" Zethrid: "You traitor" Ezor:*Jelousy expression*

God I truly am sick and tired of the sibling "theory" with Acxa and Keith. The fact that it isn't canon aside and no evidence pointing to it either aside, it remaining the central topic of discussion with regards to Acxa within vld fandom is frankly both reductive and frustrating. Where are the discussions about her redemption arc? Her weird brand of "loyalty" that is more often than not interlaced with betrayal when it comes to Lotor? How her reciprocity with Keith is often done with distaste yet it's something not required nor expected of her but she does it anyways. Her relationship with Zethrid and Ezor which are the central most important relationships with her even above Keith and Lotor seeing as the Grudge's climax hinges on Acxa trying to redeem Zethrid.
Just, any form of discussion with Acxa that doesn't place her in a role of either being related to Keith, or his minder. VLD was never great about developing character I know but come on. She has one of the most complete arcs in the show and yet fandom exclusively keeps going back to a fan theory that has long been beaten dead to the ground is reductive at best and extraordinarily misogynistic* at worst.
*fictional characters have no feelings. Female characters cannot experience misogyny in reality but how society treats them vs male characters reflects the values, flaws, etc. of said society.

I’m just gonna say it for bragging rights if it happens:
Krolia is half polluxian. Her lilac pupils are a big indication of heritage close to altean, as they are the only ones we’ve seen with such light coloured pupils.
Tumblr media
I think that the alteans we saw in s3 ep7 with two sets of markings are actually polluxians, a species closely related to alteans, and Krolia’s cheek markings are polluxian markings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Keith (confirmed) and Acxa (speculative, but her light-coloured pupils lead me to strongly suspect) are Krolia’s children, making them a quarter galra, a quarter polluxian and half human.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
( also i just noticed that krolia and acxa have the same eyeliner flicky thing on their lower lines. not really convincing evidence but worth noting on top of everything else)

During s3-s4 I abhorred the sibling theory, I hated it with every inch of my being, but seeing Krolia in s5 sold me instantly and I could not deny it. Like many I dropped the theory after s6, but then this came up to me today and I thought to myself, am I delusional, am I being fucked with by the show again? And the answer would be yes, because those Krolia and Acxa eyes are identical to a T. Makes it more fuckey when you compare trophy husband’s eyes, that Keith got. Acxa has the thicker eyebrows and the upper bend, something that Keith also has. Let’s go full exploding brain here a bit.
For pure argument sake I will be ignoring that Josh interview, because listening to it, he was panicking when put on the spot -and I dislike how he was- and let’s focus on this only and the classic lost sibling trope in old school shounen anime. First is the robot romance trilogy, which shaped the genre that inspired Golion, we’ll see it’s a rather common trope to have the reveal of the hero has a sibling or relative or both in the evil empire in the genre, and in the case of the trilogy it shows up in the second installment, the darker and edgier of the three.
We have Voltes V 1977 that reveals our protagonist and antagonist are brothers
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Predating the robot romance trilogy is UFO Robo Grendizer 1975 that had Duke and Maria
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We have one of the best in the genre, Godmars 1981 that has the brothers Mars and Marg
Tumblr media
This barely scratching the surface here. It’s such a common trope it’s almost expected. The sibling varies from misguided to noble demon to outright heroic mole. The parents are either evil or dead, or one is still alive but rarely is the family reunion a happy one by the end, it always ends in tragedy for them or others.
Now the big killer of this -now more crack than ever- theory is that we saw baby Keith. Well, like @captain-vulture used to constantly point out, it’s very easy for Krolia to have been pregnant again when she went back into space, seeing that Keith and Acxa seem close in age, with him being around a year older. It’s a killed theory at this point, but the show has a habit of going bitch you thought. I also like to point out that sometimes creators are forced to lie in interviews when put on the spot. It happened with Galra keith theory way back.

So the Keith and Acxa Twin Theory...
Why did Acxa join Lotor then?
I have my own headcannon in the making, but I’m curious to hear other people’s stories. It’s an interesting concept.

Some short musings about Team Sincline’s backstories
[For the sake of simplicity I think each of them is half Galra, half another species, with each parent being full Galra/full other species respectively]
Acxa - Used to be really big on the sibling theory and her being Galra/human, but in light of Krolia never bringing up another child either via dialogue or flashback, it seems like the theory has been disproved. - Possibly Altean/Galra? With her parents being a Galra doctor and an Altean from the colony or from another group of Alteans that managed to evade both the destruction of their homeplanet and Lotor’s notice and a random Galra. It could explain why she was more reluctant to turn against Lotor than the others. - If not that, then Galra and another species we’ve yet to see. In this scenario, I see her joining the military as soon as she possibly can to exert more control over her life. - Galra parent was either out of the picture very early in her life or never in it - Was raised by her non-Galra parent who was disowned by the rest of their family for consorting with a Galra. They died fairly early in Acxa’s life. (hm, those parallels) - It’s either join the Empire or be stuck working bottom of the barrel jobs on her homeplanet since she doesn’t look enough like her non-Galra parent’s species to pass as them, but she also doesn’t look Galra enough to most Galra either. - She has to work twice as hard to get anywhere in the military. She tries not to let the insults of her peers and backhanded compliments of her superiors get to her, instead redoubling her efforts to follow every order to the ‘t’ and to excel in everything placed before her. Eventually her efforts attract Lotor’s attention.
Ezor - Orphaned early in life, doesn’t have many if any memories of her parents. - I’d say she didn’t have many issues dealing with any anti-Galra sentiment among the populations she worked in, but since we haven’t seen her non-Galra parent’s species yet it’s hard to say - Made use of her invisibility as a thief to get by - Didn’t make any strong emotional attachments to other thieves she worked with, although if need be see has a network of people she can contact to find out info from - Particularly liked to hang around space ports, where she again made use of her invisibility to stow away upon ships for free travel - One day she ended up trying to steal from one of Lotor’s vessels and the sentries picked up on her presence. Rather than throwing her in the brig, Lotor ends up recruiting her, and she goes along with it because she doesn’t have any better options. - Also, with her often being cited as a foil to Lance, I think it’d be interesting for him to be heading back to his homeworld filled with a family waiting for him while she’s effectively alone in the universe outside of Acxa and Zethrid.
Narti - Possibly Galra and the same species as the bounty hunter from “Reunion”. I’ve also seen theories that she might have been a bioweapon akin to the chimera from “Bloodlines”. - With the latter, I can see Lotor arranging for her to be released into his service, or her escaping from the experiments on her own using her abilities. Lotor gets wind of it and manages to track her down at some point. Rather than sending her back, he asks her to join him. - Kova’s naturally attracted to the quintessence that was used on her, and the two form a symbiotic relationship.
Zethrid - Galra/Kythran seems like a pretty good bet for her. - Grew up in a discreet Empire-run orphanage that took in mixed children of soldiers whose Galra parents, while not feeling like they could outright abandon their children, also wanted little to do with them. - She was fortunate in that she took more after her Galra parent than other mixed children in both appearance and strength, and used that to her advantage. - Normally the focus of the orphanage was getting these kids into trades, but an exception was made for her. She was able to go toe-to-toe with the full Galra recruits seeking to enlist, which didn’t sit well with them or her superiors who begrudgingly accepted her into their unit. - I’m also fond of @teamsincline’s backstory of her attempting to rise through the ranks of the Empire after growing up with a now-deceased Galra parent who, while copulating with another species, still had the Empire’s prejudices and goals firmly ingrained in them. - Her heritage prevents her from being promoted until Lotor happens to cross paths with her during a bar brawl. Very Zethrid. - Seriously it’s a great one-shot check it out.

If Kacxa is going to be a thing can we all agree at least that Keith is 100% a bottom because this boy could not swoon a lady for his life like--do you think he could really look at the boobies and have any idea where to go from there?
If it’s going to be a thing I 400000% need Lance to give her fresh pickup lines to use on the boy that she says flatly and with little intonation
and then he kind of doesn’t really understand because he’s dense af and she’s gotta literally sit him down and be like “OK u want sum FUK or WHAT. I need an answer or I’m going to move on with my life. Maybe send you a postcard. Chop chop, mama’s got a Galra empire to dismantle.”

Y’know there’s something really screwy with a fandom if a large portion of the fanbase insists a male character and a female character are related despite knowing the show’s VAs being aware of future events happening in canon and learning a VA joked that the female character helped the male character because she was thinking with her lady bits.

I personally really like the theory about Keith and Acxa being siblings and now I can’t help but to imagine what their relationship would have been like if they had grown up together. I’d like to think they would have been close.
I also can’t help but to think of them now whenever I listen to Kids again by Artist Vs Poet

@aquaburst07 (bruh this became so long that asks dont cut it)
For a variety of reasons actually!
Before we begin, however, I want to make this clear: I have nothing against shipping or having certain ships. If anyone out there ships Keith and Acxa, that’s your ship and you’re entitled to it. At the same time, I’m entitled to my theories.
Now without further ado let’s begin.
First off, let’s look at what canon has depicted so far of the relationship between Keith and Acxa. Usually, when people talk about them (even people who support the siblings theory), they only refer to the famous scene where Keith and Acxa face off in “Tailing a Comet” in season 3. But what I’ve noticed that except for a few people (@radioactivesupersonic  being one, and they have some interesting thoughts/speculation on the theory that I suggest checking out) no one really discusses this particular scene:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I admit, when I saw season 2 back in January (???)  I thought that the Weblum Galra was gonna be a Red X sort of character (remember the original Teen Titans?) who would serve Keith’s rival and perhaps have some sort of connection to Lotor. Later on after Acxa’s face was revealed in sdcc and the dynamic of Lotor and his squad was established, I thought that while Keith and Acxa were definitely going to have a rivalry (and as an extension, Team Voltron vs. Team Sincline) and the fact that they worked amazing with one another signaled a potential alliance between Team Voltron and Team Sincline down the road.
But now in lue of season 4 and the dissolution of Team Sincline and the generals are at odds with Lotor, the chances of alliance in that respect is kinda low. (And I don’t support the theory that the generals are going to reunite with Lotor). Not to mention season 4 seemed to establish a rivalry/parallelism between Keith and Lotor, and the generals seem separate from it with Acxa having an agenda of her own.
But that leaves us with the teamup. Why emphasize how great Keith and Acxa work together if there’s not going to be rivalry + alliance going on?
And look at how well they work together. The show makes a point of showing them covering each other’s backs and Keith protects Acxa with his shield from blasts from the immune cells. Comparing this with other fights in the show, even the ones where it involves Team Voltron vs. common enemy, the show never makes an specific choice to have the characters work so well in sync with one another, not even Keith and Shiro, a choice that would be well expected. In fact, the only characters whose fighting style parallels this Keith and Acxa’s in this scene is
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pidge and Matt, the only canon sibling relationship in the show in which both parties are important to the plot. And taking it further, notice how that particular shot with Pidge and Matt parallels these shot of Acxa and Keith, down to the similar backgrounds:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The coloring is different of course, but that could indicate that the same way we have siblings that are partners-in-crime with Matt and Pidge, we might be getting rivaling siblings with Keith and Acxa. And given the parallelism between Keith and Pidge as the arms of Voltron, outlined very well by @radioactivesupersonic here, it makes sense that Keith’s family situation would be the inverse reciprocal of Pidge’s.
There’s also the matter of the nature of the partnership. I’ve mentioned it before in this separate meta, but note how Keith responds to Acxa. He gets real attached real quick. Don’t get me wrong, Keith is a very loyal individual, whom we see goes back rescue Regris in “Code of Honor” and sticks with Allura when she attempts to hand the comet over to the alternate reality Alteans in “Hole in the Sky.” But Acxa, as Keith noted by her empire insignia, is with the empire, and Keith has already made clear how he feels about them back when he fights Zarkon, and for the most part, he usually never hesitates when fighting a galra solider or commander, even after his origin reveal.
Tumblr media
Here you can see how bitter, almost tired he becomes after Acxa betrays him. Given how pragmatic Keith is, you’d think he’d expect something like this to happen. And yet, here he is assuming the best out of an imperial soldier. It’s almost like he sensed that there was more to Acxa than her empirical position? And even with his bitterness towards her, Keith never anticipated Acxa being on Lotor’s side?
Tumblr media
Look at his surprised expression here. It makes one wonder if Keith had some sort of preconceived notions about Acxa? Again, tying back to the idea that Keith somehow knew deep down that there was more to Acxa than there seemed to be, and Keith does value her in particular…
With that in mind also consider the fact that Keith and Acxa are really similar to one another.
Like something I noticed since sdcc is that Acxa what in Spanish we call an “aire” (translates directly to “air” in English, but more appropriately referred to as an “aura”) of Keith. What I mean is, that in a lot of ways, is very similar to Keith that is not present with other characters, even parallels such as Lotor and Allura. Things such as mannerisms, personality, and character.
For example, let’s look at Keith for a moment. What is one of the iconic things what we think about when thinking of Keith?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s him crossing his arms. It’s so iconic that Allura emulates this when she plays Keith in “the Voltron Show!” And guess what Acxa tends to do as well?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s not the only thing either, Acxa makes a number of Keith-ish faces too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(There are more but I’m in kind of a rush now. I’ll update this later)
And personality-wise, at first they don’t resemble each other much. But consider their loyalty to their respective leaders, Keith with Shiro and Acxa with Lotor. Acxa ditches Lotor later on of course, but not without inner turmoil. Both are quite pragmatic to a fault, with Acxa alling herself with Keith in the Weblum because it benefitted her plan. It can be compared to Keith’s pragmatism in s1 when Allura was captured and Keith had hesitated to save her, because he knew that it would endanger the lions.
But most of all, what I find oddly similar between the two of them is their fighting style? Every character in the show has their own unique fighting style, in Team Voltron this quite pronounced. Keith in particular is known for his aggressive, close combat, and Acxa is frankly the same. Like compare:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Heck when they fight they cancel each other out.
Tumblr media
People call out parallelism between them but I don’t see it. When we see parallelism in the show, think of how Allura’s speech to the coalition in “Changing the Guard” is a direct foil to Lotor’s speech to the empire. Think of how Lotor outwitted the paladins, only for Allura to outwit him. Think of how Keith’s on his own in season 4, and Lotor as well. What is the common denominator here? Each parallel here are in similar situations, but ultimately resulting from different circumstances. And in terms of personality, there are similarities but ultimately they are very different. Their actions, behaviors, and personality quirks are different as well.
To top this all off the last similarity that Keith has with Acxa is well their designs. Like look, I know that Studio Mir has a particular anime-esque style where it’s so easy to fall into same-face, but if I’m quite honest vld doesn’t really suffer from it?
Like for the most part, all the characters on the show are unique in some form or another, even if they share certain characteristics with one another. In fact, the only times I could recall the show being explicitly same-face besides Keith and Acxa are with Pidge and Matt, and Allura and her mother, aka people that are biologically related to each other.
And really, there has to be a reason why the show made a point to explicitly depict Keith and Acxa’s face like this in these shots, subtle foreshadowing?
Tumblr media
Like really if it were just to for Keith to recognize Acxa as the the galra from the  weblum, why focus on Keith’s face, whose expression she mirrors here? Like, the focus on Keith’s surprise and the flashback would of been enough. The time allocated to showing each of their faces was long enough to allow the viewer to get a good look at them, which given their faces, is surprisingly similar.
Also one has to consider Lauren and Joaquim’s style of foreshadowing. Like for the past four seasons I’ve noted that the vld writers tend to plant subtle hints early on in the show – easter eggs if you will. Having Acxa meet Keith in the weblum, all alone so that her partnership with him is emphasized, with the only other person being Hunk, aka the guy who involved himself in the galra Keith thing, asking him questions and stuff. One could argue that Acxa appearing in season 2 and allying herself with Keith is a perfect example of this. The hints eventually get bigger eventually culminating in the reveal. Think back to the reveal of Keith’s galra heritage. It wasn’t until someone rewatched season1 till they realized there was hints overlaid that could indicate Keith as galra, and the hints only grew as season 2 rolled around. Frankly this seems to be the case with Acxa and Keith. Right now the clues are small, but as Lauren and Joaquim said in this interview back in season 3, Keith’s family is not a main focus in the show right now, but will come in later. Given their previous trend of foreshadowing, it could very well be that Acxa, Keith’s sister, is introduced as a character, but the nature of the relationship between them will not be focused on until the second half of the show.
And really, and Keith were to have family outside (and he seems to have, given Keith’s comment in “Stayin’ Alive” how he plans to find his family, while he might not know it himself, might be subtle foreshadowing as he could as very well said parents, also Lauren’s intentionally vague comments here) wouldn’t it be more interesting for said family member to not be defined by their relation as Keith’s family, or this case sister? Because frankly, that would be boring as heck if we’re introduced to this sibling character of Keith and the only notable trait they have is the fact they exist to be Keith’s sister. Canon Acxa is a character of own, whose motivations are (now) distinct from Lotor’s, distinct from Keith’s, and she has own friend group and backstory and character development. Frankly, I’d say that Acxa being Keith’s sister would only be icing the well-written cake.
(EDIT: Forgot to include links)

Note
Do you have thoughts as to why would Keith's parents split Keith and Acxa up if they were siblings? Like if it were just phenotypes that would be kinda dull from a story standpoint
Outside of being dull from a story point, there’s numerous implications that Keith’s phenotype is a lot more like Acxa’s- every other half-galra we’ve seen shows their galra side much more obviously, and the whole “burned hand” incident.
We don’t know the full situation that caused them to split up. It could be they never planned to live separately, and merely divided their children to possibly make sure that if either of them were captured at least one would get away.
But, I’m with you, anon- I don’t think it was just as simple as one of them could pass as human and the other couldn’t.
