Todd in the shadows' vid on the James Somerton debacle was really good, extremely comprehensive, and just. absolutely baffling. I just...why? why would Somerton lie like that? no sources, no real reason or agenda (mostly, there were quite a few cases where an agenda was DEFINITELY being pushed) just blatant misinformation that anyone could fact-check with a simple Google search. it's despicable, but what gets me is I just can't wrap my head around the reasoning. laziness, maybe? a sick sense of gratification that comes with tricking millions of queer viewers? why lie about any of it? he's a terrible plagiarizer, if he didn't know something why didn't he just steal more words from someone who did??? maybe there's not a clear cut answer, maybe there's a really obvious one that I'm just too much of an academic to grasp. it just sickens me. he had a following that big, and he didnt feel an ounce of obligation to give them the most basic honesty.
