This snippet from a 1960 article about Acrochordus (”The curious feeding habits of the Java wart snake”) has me on the floor. 

I learned things from the zebra pleco which made this possible!! This one has to be my best yet. I’m quite fond of this snake, it really sells the 3D illusion. It’s Acrochordus granulatus!

Hi, I was wondering about sea snakes, they're really cool! How long are sea snakes on average? Are they bigger than land snakes or smaller?

They can vary in length - the smallest sea snake (Acrochordus granulatus) is less than two feet long, and the longest (Hydrophis spiralis) can reach over 6 feet! On average, most sea snakes are around 4-5 feet long - about the same size as your average ratsnake.

Kaiju OC - Acrochordus

Meet my Kaiju OC, Acrochordus, the big snek with legs. 

Acrochordus is a semi-aquatic kaiju currently residing in Sri Lanka, at Outpost 63. Despite his grumpy appearance, he’s usually quite calm and laid-back, though he can be brutal on the battlefield. He spends most of his time in the water, and swims by propelling his body through undulating his tail like a crocodile. He is capable of causing tsunamis and earthquakes with his massive tail, and had an extremely powerful bite force, strong enough to completely chomp through one of Ghidorah’s necks

He stand at around 285 feet when on all 6 legs, and around 425 feet when on his hind legs. His total length is roughly 1,194 feet (tail to head) and his swimming speed can go up to 80m per hour/around 70 knots.

Acrochordus is an ambush predator, lurking in dark water or half-buried in sand or dirt, before pouncing on any kaiju unfortunate enough to not notice him, coiling around them until they stop moving.

He’s also directly responsible for most giant snakes and dragons in myths and legends. Sea-faring vikings called him Jormungandr, the World Serpent, after catching sight of him swimming, with them being unable to see his legs. He also greatly contributed to asian dragons by being spotted on multiple occasions around China and Japan.

I got his name from an actual genus of aquatic snakes that are found in Australia and tropical Asia, his colours and patterns are directly inspired from the pictures I found online.

5: elephant trunk snake (javan file snake/acrochordus javanicus)

CUTIES. They're non-venomous and aquatic and you can have them as pets, as far as I know, but they're very difficult to care for. And they can get BIG. 8 feet or more iirc in the wild. plus they get stressed easily and handling them is either tough or impossible because of it. they bite. theyre not hell its just tough but theyre a more advanced one to care for. I've never owned one because of that. BUT. I think they're fucking adorable

They have this thing going on where their skin looks all loose and baggy I adore them.

4: Sri Lanka Cat Snake (boiga ceylonensis)

Little. aggressive, mildly venomous, but nocturnal and not really a problem, even if they venture into homes sometimes. they often arent lethal, as far as i know they cause swelling or . I mean I say little but they can be like 4 feet so they're easily the size of a toddler. But that's not important. I love them because they look fucking stupid. like a shoelace with extra large googly eyes

3: brahminy blind snake (indotyphlops braminus)

ohh my little guys.. little babies.. dearest darlings. non-venomous, blind, and tiny. they are a bit rare in a sense because they're subterranean, but you can dig and find them really. you can have them as pets. but some people think they're boring because they don't do much. on the contrary. they're just introverted. people mistake them for worms. amazing. also they can release a Funk if threatened, if im not mistaken. they just look like a tube

Meet the newest additions to my menagerie! I have acquired two young Acrochordus javanicus, also known as elephant trunk or file snakes. These are fascinating animals, and I am looking forward to working with them.

Acrochordus Javanicus (Javan) is an elephant trunk snake rope-maker! He’s a little guy but not the brightest. His prosthetic arms were made by Glaber, who is one of the few people he’s taken a liking to since Glaber never made fun of him for his “troubles”
