question:
you ever gonna continue tinnitus?
Asks that make me cry out in agony and fall whimpering to the ground like a kicked dog /lh
hi anon. I . Don't know :( The Horrors, etc I've rewritten the draft for the next chapter (the draft being, like. maybe three-four paragraphs) so many times. The issue here is that I wrote myself into a hole (as foretold by Myself when I started it sdgkjHSg) and well. Erm.
I know what the next chapter is supposed to Be. But the problem is where to get After That. And the uncertainty of the Future is what holds me back in the Now
Regardless. If I were to continue it, it would not be ANYtime soon shdgkjh. Stuff is just far too busy irl at the moment. I've got one (1) project I am messing with in secret, and that one only gets touched every two weeks or so when I have a minute to breathe . So. Yknow :(
I don't know!!!!!

Can you drop some little head cannons about IKYLLATK Steve?
Aaahh yes! okay here's a bunch of random headcanons for Stevie:
Steve can cook and he loves it! He may be a kfc lover and gets takeout every now and then, but he definitely prefers to eat a home cooked meal. When he was still with reader, he'd always cook dinner for her when she'd stay over. (And she would make dessert :)
He keeps everything that he gets from the people he loves, whether it's little notes, small gifts, chocolate (he keeps the wrapper lol) he keeps everything.
He still has a box filled with readers things in his closet. And there's still some of her belongings lying around. A random hair tie, one of her books, pride and prejudice (that he never gave back to her when he borrowed it) etc.
He still rewatches the movies he and reader would always watch on their movie nights.
In middle school, he would surprise her with her favorite snacks and would give them to her during lunch breaks. In high school, he would always give her random things that reminded him of her (before and during their relationship)
He loves to sing in the shower, while he's cooking or cleaning, he just loves to song. And, he can play guitar, but that's something he keeps a secret from most people.
Not a secret but he has a really long hair care routine.
He loves David Bowie.
He also enjoys shopping and getting things for himself, it's therapeutic to him. Plus, he loves to look, feel and smell good.
He wants a pet but he can't decide between a kitten or a puppy.
He loves loves rom coms, doesn't enjoy horror movies a lot, the only exception is anything with Zombies though, he loves Zombie movies/comics and probably daydreams about what it would be like to live in a zombie apocalypse (lol)
He sees Dustin as his little brother.
He loves to spoil the kids, and Robin. He gets her whatever she wants (after she rambles about for days ofc)
He misses reader and their relationship but he also really misses their friendship a lot, she wasn't only his girlfriend, she was also his best friend.
He carries a lot of guilt for the way he treated reader during their relationship. He let his fears and his insecurities guide him, which turned him into an asshole at times. He would go back in time and change everything if he could.
He is jealous of Eddie, not only because he has her. But also because he treats her the way Steve wishes he could have treated her.
He doesn't know what he wants for his future but he knows who he wants in his future.

Listen, Between Us is my child. My joy. My raison d’être.
But I do kind of have separate ratings for the series as a whole vs. WinTeam’s part in it. WinTeam Rating: 12/10, perfect my babies miraculous string music. The series…has a different rating. Undisclosed. Unimportant. New and Sheep did their best under extraordinary circumstances and I will defend their series to my last breath.
That said, I want to make a WinTeam supercut for myself.
‘Cos as far as I know, New didn’t just direct the series—he edited it as well, and I understand that he had a lot on his plate. But I do…kind of wish he’d delegated the editing to someone else. The mic noises, the music crowding some scenes, the flashbacks that go on for a really long time—much longer than they had to—presumably to pad out an episode, etc. Plus, well. BeePrince should have had their own series. Bee is already a side character, and Prince only has Bee and his manager to flesh him out. I think Tae did a fantastic job as Bee, but Benz as Prince never really grabbed me emotionally. Their plot felt sort of sped-run to me, and I started fast-forwarding past them in later episodes. I don’t dislike them, to be clear, I just didn’t feel much of anything in any direction. Love Bee, neutral on BeePrince.
I wish I could fix all the muffled noises from the actors squishing their body mics during hugs and oh my god New kept playing the instrumental version of Prem’s song in a painfully sharp/high-pitched key that felt more like a horror soundtrack than the uplifting/happy instrumental they played in the locker room scene of episode two. But I can’t fix those issues because I’d probably need the original high quality dialogue tracks in order to isolate and remove parts of them. And aaahh, more than anything I wish I could remove the music from some scenes—the late-night “if I asked you, would you have an answer for me” conversation has, like, four or five music cues in it and it’s ONE SCENE, NEW. I’m a huge champion of sound engineering as an art form that should be respected, and so a lot of scenes genuinely felt to me like wasted opportunities. Sound and music aren’t supposed to hammer viewers in the face with the mood of a scene. And BounPrem were at top form in this series, so I wish they had had more scenes where they aren’t interrupted by a song in the middle. Where they just got to have quiet and New let their acting carry the scene.
(This is something New also did in UWMA. Like, as much as I enjoy the cabin scene and the dorm room scene, neither of them needed that song blasted over them. Let the actors carry the scene!!!)
Basically, my only major issues with Between Us were editing-based. Hence why I wish New had let someone else do it. Maybe he didn’t have the money to spare. Maybe he just didn’t want to. No idea.
But that’s why I want to make my own WinTeam cut so I can binge their storyline when I’m having a rough day and I don’t want to fast-forward to get to them. (That’s not to say I didn’t like everyone else! I did! But y’know. WinTeam. My babies.) I’ll include some of the other pairings when their scenes are relevant to WinTeam’s story, but mostly I just want to zero in on WinTeam. (I’ll keep all of WanTul since they’re the pairing with the closest storyline to WinTeam, and the two pairs converge later in the series, but I’m tempted to play with the timeline and see if I can’t blend them in elsewhere.)
I know why BeePrince didn’t have their own series. Side pairings are a profitable and inevitable marketing element of the BL industry, and I don’t begrudge New for trying to advertise some of his actor stable in a highly anticipated series that was guaranteed to have thousands of potential fans watching it. It’s tough out there, and New’s got a purebred cat family to feed and Boun’s salary to provide. Sell what you gotta sell, babe.
(I’m actually a little tempted to do this same thing for SOTUS S because HOO boy do I not care about the side couples in Arthit’s office. KongArt + TewDae + seven seconds of sapphics is all I want.)
Anyway! I’m gonna make this my li’l project. I’m not sure I’ll post it publicly because I don’t want to step on the official versions, but I’ll probably post some isolated scenes while I experiment with editing. For my first step I’ll try to cut down some of those flashback scenes. Like Win in the shower remembering his entire conversation with Dean and Pruk? For multiple minutes? Win might have relived the entire thing, but we shouldn’t. The series is only twelve episodes, New, and that conversation wasn’t that long ago even for those of us who watched it live. We remember. We got it.
If New needed more footage to pad out the episode, just have Boun do his hair and skin care routines. Literally who would complain? “Look, a beautiful human being. Stare.” WITH PLEASURE.
“Oh no the episode is short. Prem, pout for thirty seconds.” I WILL TAKE A THOUSAND SCREENSHOTS.
“Ohm, do some push-ups.” I’m sure he does those!
“Prem, Sammy, ad-lib an argument.” More Team and Manaow bickering! Grand!
“Fluke, be perfect.” PHARM’S APPEARANCES IN THIS SERIES WERE FLAWLESS I HOPE HE GETS THE RESPECT HE DESERVED THE FIRST TIME AROUND.
So you see, there are workarounds when you need to pad out time. No need to show us the same scenes again.
Anyway, in addition to writing fic, this is how I’m coping with our collective loss.

Note: Ten favorite monsters, part eight. Previous part. The Point is a seriously underrated movie. Catch it if you’re into stuff like The Phantom Tollbooth or Yellow Submarine.
1. Oblina from Aaahh!!! Real Monsters
Tbh, I didn’t really watch this show. Rugrats was and is my fave Nicktoon, so my first exposure to ARM was crossover episode “Ghost Story.” (That, “The Last Babysitter,” and Rugrats in general has great juvenile horror.) But I have a soft spot for female monsters that have “girly” features while still giving grotesque.
2-4. Anglerfish-esque monsters
Dark spider spirit from Avatar: The Legend of Korra: Some kind of arachnid, anyway. Don’t let her teethies fool you. This lady will just yeet anyone spirited away into the Fog of Lost Souls, she hates people so much.
Grand Fisher from Bleach: The Bleach Wiki describes him as “resembl[ing] a giant hamster.” Which is great. Didn’t even think of that. Rats aren’t the only rodents that can scary. But he’s included here because I love monsters that mimic victims’ loved ones.
Frogfish from The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: SpongeBob has other anglers, like two cute ones from “Rock Bottom,” one of my fave episodes. As with Grand Fisher, I love how the Frogfish uses a biological dummy of sorts as a lure. In this case, its tongue. Bringing to mind the Alaskan Bull Worm.
5. Old Dark Frog from Days with Frog and Toad
This and Bony-Legs were seasonal delights for teeny Tawney. The illustration where he's looming, nay, towering over a chilled Frog was so hair-raising.
6. Brain Eating Meteor from The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy
Pretty much exactly what it sounds like. Has one of the best villain songs ever. Thank you, Voltaire.
7. the Demons of Ignorance from The Phantom Tollbooth
It’s like with the Blue Meanies where I can’t pick just one! There’s the Terrible Trivium, of course. But also the barely-there-but-will-bring-you-fear Threadbare Excuse, draconic Two-Faced Hypocrite, etc.
8. the Pointed Man from The Point
Trickster who sounds like a shaken clock. Tumblr sexyman candidate right there.
9. Sadako Yamamura from Ringu
Screenshot’s from Ringu 2. The visage creeping after Mai as she climbs with Yoichi out of the well is based on the forensic reconstruction of Sadako’s corpse.
Localizations are hit or miss for me, but I’ll admit The Ring 2002 was more entertaining. However, I think Sadako’s generally a more interesting villain than Samara.
While Ringu notability took inspiration from Videodrome, it’s its own unique spin combined with Japanese ghost lore.
10. the Tingler from The Tingler
A literal spine-tingler, living on people’s vertebrae. Emits a cardiac, pulsating sound when free roaming and swells after gorging itself on fear.
Note: Eventually, I will try reading the Ring series. I read more murder mysteries than straight-up horror. Might add other Aaah!!! Real monsters to future lists if I ever watch the show proper.

💌🎃 and 🤯 please
AAAHH THANK YOU FOR ASKING 😅
💌 How do you feel about comments and feedback?
Dude, I live for comments and feedback, they're the best fucking part of my day getting a comment or a like or a reblog or anything. it makes me feel so warm inside and makes me feel so good. Like other people are loving what I write??? In what world??? THIS ONE apparently.
And I love finding out that a particular idea or concept for a fic resonates with someone else too.
I just love it, I love internet strangers screaming at each other about their passions. 🖤
🎃 Do you write fics for certain holidays? Which is your favorite holiday inspired fic?
Yes I do! My Crazy Little Thing Called Love series accidentally became the like 'special occasions' series 😅
First one his Halloween themed, then the second takes place at Christmas and the third was for Eddie's canonical 'death date'.
And I have plans for my upcoming 1 year posting anniversary shh
I think my favourite of the holiday fics is Family Commitments, the Christmas one. It just makes me so warm and fuzzy inside to have Steve, Eddie and Robin being so close together and lightly fucking with each other while saving Steve from the dreaded family expectations. I love it so much. 🖤
🤯 What's a genre you struggle with as a writer (ex. romance, action, etc.)?
Is smut a genre I can struggle with? 😅 I'm working up to it! I've written like two scenes and I was at war with both of them.
But in terms of actual genres I think if I was to take a crack at it I'd struggle with horror or thriller. I feel like I'd never be able to properly create enough suspense or that sense of unease that tells you something is just ever so slight wrong. But I'll try anything once so maybe... maybe it's somewhere in the future. 🖤
Thank you so much for your ask! I was so excited to recieve it so soon! 😘

Hey, quick question, what is Generation Loss? I know its a project that Ranboo's doing and ranonymousboo sent me here for more information
Hi!!!!!!!!! First of all i think its really funny toast sent u here LMAO like yesssss my plan to become the top genloss blogger is working >:] (/j)
ANYWAYS!!! yesyesyes Generation Loss >:] generation loss/the lostfield incident is a horror project that ranboo’s working on :D its was originally inspired by the walten files and is going to be made using older recording equipment (casette tapes, old tv models, old microphone etc etc)
it’ll heavily rely on generation loss (which is when like.. if u re-record a file on the same vhs tape enough times it will begin to distort into an amalgamation of its original self- this is also where the overarching name of the project comes from) as well as audio distortion !!!
in the paraphrased words of Ranboo, it will not only be about the tapes but what the person who found them goes through watching them- it'll have 3 'episodes', will be live action and animated, and will hopefully be done by the end of 2022 :D hes said that there are going to be legitimate sets and potentially multiple actors as well! there's also a generation loss symbol
Tumblr media
though it may be subject to change?
he's also posted a couple teasers for genloss as well!
heres the link to a video that has the two most relevant audio teasers from the ranmail channel in his discord at the moment (theres one other audio teaser that was made back when ranboo originally came up with the idea, that was simply gameshow music. however i couldn't find a video that included it :( srry) as well as the teaser he posted on the genloss twitter page
but aaahh hope this helped!!! and if u have any more questions hmu :D
edit: the video with the audio teasers linked has been taken down- if i find another upload of the audio teasers i'll add it ^_^

And your answer was very helpful so that i ended up watching the untamed :) thank uuu! and now i am asking about word of honor. :D I heard its really good but im still sensitive to seeing violence/gore on screen (like missing arm, eye horror etc)...
aw I hope you enjoyed the untamed 🥺 word of honor was soo good too omg i got so obsessed so quickly 😳 tbh I didnt remember anything gorey so I watched some compilations of fight scenes and there only seems to be some blood here and there! its mainly (sword-) fighting and ppl being kicked around similar to the untamed except in the untamed a lot more ppl lost body parts and I cant remember anything too gorey like that and didnt see anything in the compilations so I think you should be good but take this with a grain of salt bc I rly cant remember everything that well aaahh be careful 🥺 and i hope you'll enjoy it!!!! 💙

What was the first horror movie you saw and at what age. What did you think if it then vs now.
(PSA: my reply to this went from a single paragraph to a small novella about my history with the horror genre before I realized what happened so fair warning!)
It isn’t technically the first horror film I ever watched, but the first one I can vividly remember sitting through in full is 1995′s Rumpelstiltskin. I was maybe 6 when we rented it and I thought it was terrifying! I appreciate it now solely for its schlock value and unintentional hilarity, but at the time this movie horrified me:
youtube
That being said, if I really rack my brain I can pull up hazy childhood memories of Freddy Krueger, Pennywise, Chucky, Jason, and even Pinhead! I was too afraid to seek out hardcore horror movies like that myself as a kid, mind; I just always seemed to gravitate towards them when my siblings would rent them. Well, I’d gravitate towards them for a few seconds or minutes until they scared the bejesus out of me and I invariably fled from the room in terror, that is.
I love it when people tell me stories about their childhood experiences with horror films because little kid Tommy was a horror movie pansy! I definitely had an interest in spooky stuff but I was far too scared to actually watch horror films. But at the same time I would watch Are You Afraid of the Dark? on the daily and owned a mountainous collection of Goosebumps books. I loved so many vaguely spooky shows like Aaahh!! Real Monsters, the Beetlejuice cartoon, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and (of course) all things Scooby-Doo. My love of horror has always ran deep, I think; it just started out in a training wheels kinda way. And they didn’t come off until I was 13 and finally felt brave enough to start gobbling up classics like A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Exorcist.
But that fascination with scary things had to start somewhere, right? I’ve thought about my formation as a horror fan a lot over the years because of this blog and questions people have sent in, and I think the reason for my fixation with the genre was that my favorite movie as a kid was Tim Burton’s Batman Returns. I didn’t just like that movie, either: I was obsessed with it! I watched the VHS daily, much to the fury of my siblings. It eventually just broke and we had to replace it. I have pictures of little kid me with Batman Returns shirts, toys, pillowcases, etc. And anyone who has seen that movie will tell you that, while it may not be a “horror” movie in the strictest sense, it’s absolute nightmare fuel. In a way, I feel like that was truly the first horror movie I watched; I just can’t wrap my head around why it didn’t scare me at all while Rumpelfuckingstiltskin gave me nightmares? I guess Batman just made me feel safe? Who knows…
Batman Returns really is super important to me, though. It informed so many of the interests that I still love to this day! Comic books, Batman, Tim Burton films, creepy stuff, weird architecture, Christmas movies, leather-clad goth girls, Danny DeVito. It has it all! So let’s just say it was my first horror and that I still love it.

but ok now actually getting into what I want to talk about (or more like,,, the abstract/thesis for what I eventually want to write about when my brain is less Hell lol)
I'm really interested in how season 3 uses the idea of an unknown artist/storyteller (kinda unknown lol he's in the outro so it isn't hard to guess?) who is revealed in the last episode
and like, at first I felt it was kinda cliche, but upon rewatch I actually really like it because one interpretation of the function of the drawing kid could be not a literal "this kid is a psychic/medium who beings use to cross over between worlds thru his art" but a metaphor for the Morbid FixationsTM that afflict a lot of ocd spectrum/trauma survivor/mentally ill/etc ppl and how they express it through their art
the reason I feel the execution of the stories supports this is that because they fixate on one grotesque image (which I mentioned before that I think was done poorly, but the concept is still solid) and rely on a slow, obsessive buildup
which like,,,, to me sounds exactly like my experiences both with ptsd/ocd-type thought patterns
(now granted I don't think everyone who has ocd or traumatic experiences necessary manifests them as gory/scary thoughts but it IS an extremely common theme)
(and I feel i, personally, am especially drawn to horror in this vein because my ocd fixates on body horror specifically- so keep that in mind)
but structurally speaking, each episode starts innocuously enough (though often upon entering a new situation- invoking vulnerability and anxiety at change) but quickly fixates on one point/object/theme and obsessively circles around it, simultaneously desperate to know and terrified of the reveal- all which climaxes in one shot of some horrifying (presumably they hoped haunting?) body
this pretty perfectly parallels the terror of obsessive thought patterns and the way your mind latches onto certain thoughts and creates a million nightmare images and scenarios to play constantly in the background
and the "payoff" shots are crucial to the story as they reference the artist kid's authorship- each monster/being is HIS drawing- which, in world, is a supernatural phenomenon, but they can also be (or alternatively, are only) manifestations of his ocd/obsessive/intrusive thoughts, as many artists with ocd did when they were young (or do, currently, but esp. before they know that the things they're making are Socially Inappropriate or w/e)
and then we get to the end of the season, where the kids face melts away, revealing the Storyteller mask from seasons 1 and 2- suggesting that it was he who was telling the stories through the kid (or better, that he has been a being from the Other Side the whole time)- so of course you’re like aaahh, i get it now!
the next shot repeats what was the intro of the previous seasons (the Storyteller calling the children in to hear his tales), which not only gives us a a sense of closure- of circularity- but seems to reinforce this idea that he’s been behind it this whole time
we get a lingering shot of the children, now with their faces frozen in a mask of anguish/death/w/e and the shutter closes- and you’re like haha ok, kinda cheesy but it’s all fun, right?
however, that shot repeats AGAIN- the Storyteller calling the children and the shot of their distorted faces
and again
and again
each time the children’s faces twisting and decaying even more
so of course our previous conclusion couldn’t have been correct then- there’s something more going on here, but what it is?
at this point- in terms of storytelling- your next shot is absolutely crucial to establish meaning here because you’ve already told the viewer that their previous assumptions were not correct. the repeating scene isn’t just an annoying “haha GOTCHA!” or “it was all just a dream” sort of thing- it’s a wake up call
and what do they show next? a close up of one of the listening children’s faces (a shot that has always intrigued me because it’s so personal compared to how the other kids are shown, usually as no more than the back of a head- why do we need to know that THIS KID, specifically is listening to the Storyteller?), followed by a shot of the Storyteller, now in the body of a child and overlaid by the child’s voice over.
I don’t know for sure that this kid is the same as the drawing kid, but I don’t necessarily think it matters
To me this reaffirms my belief that the Storyteller is, and always has been synonymous with the artist kid- who is simultaneously one of his listener’s
(alright now hear me out cuz I realize that last sentence was phrased poorly, but i’m getting to The Point lol)
the Child, plagued by intrusive/obsessive thoughts revolving around fear and mutilated bodies, draws them out and authors the reality that we, the viewer experience throughout the show- we are essentially living out his fears when we watch each episode- but he is simultaneously the audience as well as the author, as indicated through the very specific shot which places him in the Storyteller’s audience, which in my opinion speaks to the way that many young children find themes to “latch onto” in their thoughts/fears based on things they are exposed to, but also could speak to the circularity of creating things that simultaneously relieve and reinforce one’s own fears (e.g. i draw things that scare me a lot as a way of venting/relieving that tension, but doesn’t it kind of reinforce those fears now that I’ve brought it to life?)
I think another thing that reinforces the Child as both listener and Storyteller is the focus on the other children’s deformed faces at the very end of season 3- this is what HE is seeing, this is his reality, this is how his Art and his Truth are bleeding together- again reinforcing that idea of being both cathartic and self-harming for him- but also perhaps allowing paradox to sit more comfortably with viewers?
I personally don’t find it hard to reconcile the Child paradoxically being Storyteller and listener, nor the idea of both relieving and reaffirming fear through art, but I know that many people get frustrated at that and want a clear, linear story to follow, so in my opinion I think this ending allows viewers to more “rationally” see where the lines between authorship and viewership blur
So uhhh,,, none of this probably makes any sense, but I just need to get the Thoughts out so I can write more formally about it at another point without forgetting everything lol (maybe like this post if u read just because im curious if anyone actually made it to the bottom of this haha)
