sometimes I wonder if I should take a gender studies class just so I can bitch every day about how an imaginary boyfriend is often seen as a requirement for a woman to feel safe enough to have fun at a club, or the idea that an imaginary person with a fake “claim” over me has more influence over predatory men than my own voice saying “No, I’m not interested, get lost”

#venting #hnnnnng the double standard is really really making my teeth hurt recently #(in that I’m grinding my jaw at the mere thought of this particular breed of injustice)#I honestly miss going out with my friends. I miss going to bars and clubs and enjoying the night #but I wanna go with my friends and leave my boyfriend at home for once #he gets to go out and enjoy himself all the time with his friends and they never even have to deal with unwanted flirtation #meanwhile I go out in a tshirt and jeans and get fucking catcalled or flirted with just fucking getting groceries #and it’s not a narrative on beauty or anything. it’s about men’s perception of women #specifically predatory men and men who don’t realize they’re BEING predatory #perhaps it’s because I’ve been going to this fucking gamer school for far too long #and I’ve interacted with so many socially inept/incel men from there #who don’t know what no means or dont take women seriously when they do say no #or they literally cannot read between the lines of a woman politely declining their advances #‘but she was being so nice to me’ yeah bc if she wasn’t you’d either call her a bitch or try to force her anyway #anyway. I’m angry #im tired of living in fear of morons #I’m tired of not being able to go out on a Tuesday night and just walk the town with my friends #specifically my femme friends #we should be at the club!! instead we’re trying to make sure the group is like a school of fish so we’re less of a target #and like. I could talk about this on twt or reddit but. cmon. let’s be real here #MelloMoans #really does feel like we’re going backwards when it comes to gender equality and feminism #especially with the influx of the whole sigma male/high value male bullshit #I understand how it came to be I really do but that plus the whole pick me girl thing is just another toxic view of gender identity #and all it has resulted in on both sides is a wider degree of separation between the genders #therefore allowing both extremes to dehumanize every one that doesn’t identify as sigma male or not like other girls YET AGAIN #(and therefore also opens up the door for dehumanizing lgbtq+ folks but. let’s be real. that hasn’t really gone away yet :/

It’s so interesting to me that the big, like, ~reveal~ of both Jane Eyre and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall concern one of the main love interests already being - surprise! - married, but they are such VASTLY different circumstances with totally different connotations and consequences. Just Bronte girlie thoughts.

#and i don't think it boils down to the gender of the married party being different #because on the surface helen and rochester's initial story beats are actually fairly similar #they marry someone based on a lack of information and youthful idiocy then come to realize their mistake later on in the marriage #and like the ~issue~ resides in their partner. namely not being who they thought they were #now this is where it starts to diverge with questionable handling of mental health and an eye raising dash of racism in rochester's case #whereas helen's husband is just a moron #then she leaves whereas rochester just. locks his wife in the attic etc etc #and it's interesting because helen leaving mirrors jane's leaving rochester but for like the complete opposite reason #jane leaves rochester despite wanting to be with him because it's the ~christian~ thing to do #whereas helen leaves her husband despite her marriage vows to save her son from growing up to be an asshole like his father #all this to say perhaps the bronte sisters laid out the following suggestion:#in an unhappy marriage a woman can only run the fuck away whereas the man can lock his wife in the attic #gender imbalances smh #anyways #jane eyre #the tenant of wildfell hall #anne bronte #charlotte bronte #the brontes

#i am not a fan of tarantino or an avid lover of martin scorsese's films (i respect scorsese more than tarantino)#so turns out these two big name directors of course has a whole LOT to say about marvel or superhero movies (which i agree on)#especially scorsese a few years back commenting marvel movies aren't cinema (yeah i feel the same way too martin)#on the other hand simu is also right about the lack of diversity and racism in hollywood movies #but he also goes on his shit to defend disney a huge ultracapitalist moviemaking corporation as somewhat a diversity saint #like ok simu i get it you finally got a lead role in a major movie and seeing other actors of color getting lead roles is satisfying igi #but did he not see the amount of praise jordan peele got for his movies without having to sign his deals to marvel or disney?#i know hollywood hasn't always been the most positive industry #but simu needs to get out of his ass and see disney/marvel as not a racial diversity patron and they were just as complicit in racism #i bet if it weren't for the liberals today or the past decade disney wouldn't make an asian as the lead role in an animated movie #they are usually there to tick off diversity boxes lmao #and not to mention the damage disney today have cause due to their ultracapitalistic principles #diversity mostly purely for making bank ... does that sounds sincere?#kudos to the directors who did work with disney but still manage to make loveable stories with racially diverse cast (i.e. turning red)#again on the other hand both tarantino and scorsese and other white directors should cast more people of color in their movies #but simu defending fucking disney is lame as hell #not once did scorsese or perhaps tarantino commenting anything about racial diversity in marvel movies #so yeah basically simu sounds like a fucking moron #hollywood #simu liu #diversity #marvel
