DPXDC prompt #33
As a apology/birthday/deathday present to Danny, Maddie and Jack decide to make authentic space tech from his favorites movies... Star Wars and Star Trek.
Now the Justice League was dumbstruck chasing a, honest to god, real Millennium Falcon YT-1300 light freighter mixed with Enterprise NCC-1701?!
Did they forget to mention the transporter? Or the other brought to life fictional tech from star wars and star trek? Or the fact the this spacecraft was being driven by a blue-eyed and black-haired teenager?

It's the wave of consistency & predictability for years for me, on why I believe in Jikook. The only thing that changed was their riding together and their visibility to the public. Look at White Day, they don't even go there anymore. My guess, it was a choice they made & they have a right to protect their relationship, just like they have a right to flaunt it, when they feel like it. Everything else when we see them together is 100% the same. The gravitational pull, the heart eyes, the love, its all there. JM scores a goal and its JK's arms he runs into. JM is nervous and its JK he calls. JK needs comfort and its JM he runs to. GCF Tokyo was in 2017 and JK brings up their trip in 2023 on White Day.
JK's live he did that centered on JM, tells me his heart is unchanged. The love is his eyes is unchanged. And people don't get how brave it is when JK does these things. He is one of the most desired idols, most popular and here he is going live gushing over another man, his bandmate, while blushing, biting his lips, kicking his feet, like a school girl in love. He is doing this openly knowing he is going to be judged. Not just by shitty fans, but homophobic people, esp those in his own country. GCF Tokyo was brave. The bite/hickey he showed was brave (and then he posted an unbothered selfie right in the middle of the chaos). Doing that Jimin live raised so many eyebrows, not just in the fandom, but even YT reactors were like Uhhh, what's he trying to say. Letter was also brave, probably the most brave for JM, since he has become so protective and reserved over his relationship. So the wave of consistency & yes, even the predictability tells me all I need to know. For me, its clear. Jikook are in love and dating and have been for a very long time.
I hear you anon and I agree 1300%
I love this ask. I love it alot.

Wait question, trying to work things out for a fic of my own and I was wondering, how the hell do you determine all the Finweans’ ages in relationship to their siblings to create their dynamics so well in your stories? Don’t like, none of them even have a canon birth year except for Feanor?
What a compliment, thank you anon! I am very far from an expert on this, but as usual “canon” is a vague and muddy field here.
Finwëan birth years we do know, all from the Annals of Aman in Morgoth's Ring:
Fëanor in YT 1169
Fingolfin in 1190
Finarfin in 1230
Turgon and Finrod in 1300
Galadriel and Aredhel in 1360
(An additional fragment of the Annals in The Nature of Middle-earth gives Fingon's birth year as 1260.)
There is plenty of room, within these dates, to play around with birth years to find a dynamic that suits you! One resource I find invaluable is this excellent post on elven aging, which puts the information LaCE gives us into numbers. Because I am Like That, I wrote up a Python script that uses this formula to convert between elf and human ages. If you're slightly more normal, you can use the fact that elves and humans age at the same rate up until three years, and then after that
elf age = 38.25 - (log((27/human age) - 1)/0.059
and
human age = 27/(1 + e^(-0.059*(elf age - 27)))
to convert between them.
Then you can just use this to work backwards and decide on birth years. Posit, for example: Maedhros was always Fingon's Cool Slightly Older Cousin, and the elf-equivalent of a glamorous twenty-year-old when Fingon was elf!17. That gives us that Maedhros was 56 when Fingon was 47, putting his birth year at 1251, nine years before Fingon. Or perhaps you feel very strongly that Celegorm was older than Finrod, but only very slightly: then give him a birth year of 1297 or so. Were Fingolfin and Lalwen codependently close in age? That gives you somewhere around 1195-1200 for her birth year.
I can't emphasise enough that absolutely none of this is necessary! The Annals of Aman do (as far as I know) often contradict what's "established canon" (so much as that exists), and so you can literally throw out any of these birth dates that don't spark joy. And the LaCE maths is even more optional. But I think the working backwards is key: decide on a dynamic you like for the various siblings and cousins, and then reverse-engineer the birth years to give you something you like!

Middle and Early Modern English
“… hir the grace that god put …” (Extract from the The Boke of Margery Kempe)
The modern digraph th began to grow in popularity during the 14th century; at the same time, the shape of ⟨Þ⟩ grew less distinctive, with the letter losing its ascender (becoming similar in appearance to the old wynn (⟨Ƿ⟩, ⟨ƿ⟩), which had fallen out of use by 1300, and to ancient through modern ⟨P⟩, ⟨p⟩). By this stage, th was predominant and the use of ⟨Þ⟩ was largely restricted to certain common words and abbreviations. This was the longest-lived use, though with the arrival of movable type printing, the substitution of ⟨y⟩ for ⟨Þ⟩ became ubiquitous, leading to the common “ye“, as in ‘Ye Olde Curiositie Shoppe’. One major reason for this was that ⟨Y⟩ existed in the printer’s types that were imported from Belgium and the Netherlands, while ⟨Þ⟩ did not.[5] The word was never pronounced as /j/, as in ⟨yes⟩, though, even when so written.[6] The first printing of the King James Version of the Bible in 1611 used ye for “the” in places such as Job 1:9, John 15:1, and Romans 15:29.[7] It also used yt as an abbreviation for “that“, in places such as 2 Corinthians 13:7. All were replaced in later printings by the or that, respectively. {source}

“Grogu! Come on buddy. We have a fare to take to Cantonica.”
Din’s voice was cutting through the music Grogu was playing in his cabin and Grogu knew that meant he’d lost all track of time. He shut the music off and called back, “Okay, Dad!”
Grogu liked Cantonica and he hoped they could hang around long enough to visit the fathier herds or maybe spend a day surfing. He was getting better at all the time.
Grogu left his cabin and trotted over to the Portside ramp and waited for his dad to give him further instructions.
“Okay, pal, they will using cabins one and two and stow all their supplies and equipment in the port hold number 2.”
“Awe, Dad! My rock collection is in that hold. I’ll have to move the whole thing first. Do you know how long that took to set up just right?” Grogu complained.
His dad sighed. “Fine. Put their things in starboard hold number 2 and on the way to Cantonica you can move your collection to hold 4 in the back.”
“Fine. Whatever you want, Dad.”
Grogu knew that he was pushing things with his dad, but this always happened. He’d get the rock collection set up and have it all recorded and cataloged so he could easily add more samples and then his dad would make him move it all for some fare. Even when he relented, like today, Din still found a way for the work to be harder.
Starboard side hold was a pain to operate and his dad knew it. His dad also knew that he’d never move the Mandalorian armor out of hold 4 in the back, so instead, once they off loaded the fare, he’d be moving the rock collection into the starboard number 2 hold the way his dad asked him to the last time. That meant he wouldn’t have time to go surfing. Uff. Mandalorian’s were really hard task masters.
As Grogu began to move the supplies into the starboard hold, he could hear IG-11 talking to his dad.
“Bounty Hunter, Din Djarin, the weapons have been stowed in the secondary weapons control cabinet per your protocol. Would you like to me initiate the carbonite chamber?”
“No, IG, I would not. These people are not bounties and I am no longer a bounty hunter. I’m a taxi driver. You know that. Proceed to the bridge and initiate engine checks and pre-flight programs.”
Grogu laughed at that. His dad had been trying to retrain IG-11 for as long as they both knew him. Kuiil had been a big help, but the Ugnaught was at a family reunion and wasn’t there to help with additional training.
“Grogu? Buddy, are you done with stowing their supplies?” Din’s voice rang through the shipyard.
“I just need another minute Dad! They brought bicycles with them. They’re a little tricky to pick up with the Force.”
Grogu was telling a bit of a white lie with that. He’d set the bikes in place first. He just wanted to watch the progress as Alderaan was continuing to be rebuilt.  He was glad that Anakin had been able to stop the evil Lord Sidious from destroying such a pretty place. Damage had been done, to be sure, but nothing as horrible as what had been planned for that world.
He did just that. Watched for another minute, closed up the hold and made his way back into the ship. He really liked the YT-1300 light freighter. It was fast. It was comfortable. And his dad had finally agreed to start teaching him how to fly it. Grogu just needed IG-11 to help him dad make the adjustments to the flight controls and 2nd pilot’s seat so Grogu could actually reach all the controls without having to use the Force. He much preferred to reserve those powers for things that mattered, like making food that wasn’t rations and growing the small pot of lilies his mom asked him to take whenever they went on a long trip.
Grogu went to the bridge of the Krayt Pearl to check in with his dad.
“All done, Dad. Do you need me to do anything else?”
“Take a look around, buddy.” Din was laughing and IG-11 allowed itself to make a similar sound. It didn’t sound as good, but it was the thought that counted.
Grogu looked around and the bridge modification had been completed. What!? Yippee! Din was going to teach him how to fly the ship!
“Hey, kid. Buddy? Don’t stand so close to that flame.”
Flame? What flame? Womp rats!
Grogu looked around and realized that he’d been day dreaming again. Dank Farrik! He really liked that dream. Maybe he could talk his dad into being a taxi service?

hi! I did your survey! can I ask what are your own thoughts on the order of the Finwean cousins? I'm trying to decide for a artwork I want to create
Hi anon, I apologize for taking so long to answer this (the last couple of weeks have been hellish). And I need to point out that the survey is not mine, but @ceescedasticity's, so you might want to ask them. I only reblogged it to help with the sample size and because I'm a nerd who likes fandom-related statistics.
That said, this is the birth order I myself have settled on for Finwё's grandchildren at the moment (and my reasons below):
Maedhros Maglor Fingon Celegorm Finrod Turgon Caranthir Angrod Curufin Aegnor Aredhel Galadriel Argon Amrod Amras
(No Orodreth, sorry. I'm an Orodreth son of Angrod truther. It just makes both of them more interesting to me as characters if they're father and son and I enjoy the symmetry of Fingolfin and Finarfin both having four children).
I tried to incorporate what we canonically know about their ages, which is
the oldest child and birth order of each sibling group
that Finrod and Turgon are the same age (born 1300 YT)
that Aredhel and Galadriel are the same age (born 1362 YT)
The first four in the list are just personal preference- Fingon could theoretically be the second oldest (or even the oldest) grandchild, but Maedhros is firmly The Oldest (TM) in my mind and he and Maglor are so inseparable that I prefer them to have been the only grandchildren for a little while until Fingon came along (or Celegorm*, but I prefer Fingon to be born right after Maglor and a bit older than Celegorm).
They are followed by Finrod and Turgon and then Caranthir and Angrod. The latter two being roughly the same age is amusing to me, because instead of being besties like Finrod and Turgon, I imagine they were already getting into fights and throwing sand at each other if you left them to play unattended in the sandpit.
Curufin being surrounded by Angrod, Aegnor and Aredhel age-wise feels right to me as well, as he was canonically close with Aredhel (and if I remember correctly there is at least one version of events where Curufin was close with Angrod and Aegnor as well?) Both Curufin and Aredhel probably looked up to and idolized their cool older brother/cousin Celegorm. (I guess Galadriel already did her own thing even back then, or she preferred to follow Finrod around.)
I chose Amrod and Amras to be the youngest instead of Argon because Feanor would like being the one to provide his father with both the oldest and the youngest grandchild(ren) in the family (a perfect crown prince and heir to start with and a pair of adorable ginger babies to fawn over to end the Finwёan grandchild boom.) Also because I like the idea of Telufinwё ("last Finwё") actually being the last grandchild of Finwё in addition to being the last child of Fёanor and Nerdanel.
Looking at the list written out like that, it seems Finarfin and Eärwen had all their kids pretty closely together, while Fingolfin and Anairё had Fingon and Turgon, then took a little break and had another two. (Maybe Finarfin's and Eärwen's kids were all pretty easy-going for the most part, while Fingon and Turgon were little hellions a bit more difficult to handle? Sounds accurate tbh.)
*I'm not completely sold on the order above. I have considered Celegorm being younger than Finrod and Turgon for example, making him and Caranthir very close in age, which could be used to explain why Celegorm is closer to Curufin- by the time Curufin was born, he could be an "older brother" to him, while a close in age Caranthir could have been more of a rival for his parents' attention and affection growing up.
It's also possible I'm missing some pieces of obscure inforamtion that would change my mind, so if you know of anything, feel free to let me know!

You know I’ve been playing with a Smuggler Queen concept, I decided to try & make a couple Physical pieces so here is Sparks & Bantha’s Dream a yt-1300 in her fleet. My cat broke a falcon I had so it gave me an excuse to play with the ship. I need to add some weapons. #starwars

Why does the Noghri task force trying to use a YT-1300 freighter to kidnap Han and Leia sound like it was either Thrawn’s idea or something that Pellaeon came up with while thinking “oh boy Thrawn’ll like this”

Grim: Whoa, it’s the Millennium Falcon!
Obi-Wan: Grim you say that every time we see a YT-1300 light freighter and I still don’t know what it means
Lol yes this would absolutely happen. It would also make A New Hope even funnier because that would mean Obi-Wan has absolutely heard of the Millennium Falcon thanks to Grim so I imagine he would just play dumb to troll Han and he would finally get what she means

Director's Commentary: what will today's adventure be
Wrote this on the bus even though absolutely nobody asked for or needed it! Posting because why not. It's 1300 words of commentary for a 3100 word story. WHY NOT.
I've had the vague idea of Erica running a MLP game for a while, but seeing her little speech in Hellfire absolutely locked in her potential as a DM for me. I jotted this down in my ST scratchpad a few weeks back:
I desperately want Erica Sinclair running a MLP GURPS game. Dustin and Eddie are 10000% on board and wildly delighted. Mike is a massive dick about it the entire time. Lucas is in agony between acknowledging that it’s a pretty fucking well-designed game and he’s kind of proud of her but also HIS LITTLE SISTER HAS INFILTRATED HIS NERD GROUP WITH HER GIRLY CARTOON PONY SHIT. If Will’s around, he’s a little skeptical but quickly gets into it; it’s not his genre/style, but he can have fun trying something new. It’s ruthless, and clever, and slightly unbalanced because she hasn’t figured out how to calibrate on the fly for dumbass player decisions yet. She’ll get there. She’s got the taste for it now. The campaign ends when the party ends up luring the innocent Sea Ponies into a blood sacrifice to defeat the demon lord through necromancy and take over his dark reign. Steve shows up for the last fifteen minutes to drive the kids home, just in time to hear Erica describe the incredibly gory showdown, and tries to telepathically communicate to Eddie that this is NOT APPROPRIATE FOR CHILDREN; Eddie just grins back like hell yeah, baby, you got that right.
Obviously it has changed a bit since that initial thought, but not a huge amount, dynamic-wise. I was somewhat hampered by the fact that I remembered absolutely nothing about my brief stint with GURPS a billion years ago, and also the fact that I have literally never consumed any MLP media whatsoever. No, not even Friendship is Magic, although I was on tumblr during that initial era so I picked up a thing or two via cultural osmosis. To write this ficlet, I ended up spending a very instructive hour or two on YT watching old clips and commercials, and now the G1 theme song is permanently lodged in my brain.
This has more or less been my first time writing Erica, so I tried to put a lot of thought and care into it. In fact, I based her primarily on what my own little sister was like at that age—my sister was a regular player in my D&D games growing up, but she also went on to be a wildly popular homecoming queen, and is a very politically active adult. She's the coolest person I know, and it was an honor to be lovingly bullied by her all throughout our childhoods.
One thing I really hope I get across in this fic is that this Erica is the type to double down when she's uncertain. She's smart and funny enough to get away with it most of the time, and it's actually a big part of what makes me so sure she'll be a great DM; that's definitely a core DM skill, spinning up some off-the-cuff bullshit with the kind of authoritative tone that makes it sound like you've been masterminding this twist for months.
I wanted her to be somewhat uncertain and insecure in this fic, because running a game for the first time, in a (VERY dense) system you've never played before, is kind of a big deal! I've done something similar myself when I wasn't that much older than Erica is in this fic, and you absolutely need nerves of steel to pull it off.
I also wanted her to be fully resolved not to let that uncertainty show, because Erica strikes me as the kind of person who haaaaates being vulnerable. Given her vocab (i.e. probable reading level) and practical inclinations, I think she'd probably deal with it all by over-prepping, which experienced DM Eddie obviously clocks.
She wouldn't have gone to Eddie for advice or help. That's not how she rolls. She'd rather work through the difficult stuff on her own and show up triumphant and already perfect. It's probably something she's going to have to unpack in therapy later in life, but it is also actually a pretty solid DM instinct. Smoke and mirrors, baby.
So anything Erica says can and should be taken with a grain of salt. She's working very hard to have her audience believe she's in charge and absolutely correct about all things. (I also just thought it was pretty funny to include that bit about GURPS being the future of TTRPGs, given the wild ascendancy of DnD and the relatively low profile of GURPS nowadays, but in retrospect I'm not sure that came across.)
By the way: I know it can get confusing when actual kid-acquisition is sort of a trope, but I hope everyone knows that this Eddie's not being serious/literal when he makes the internal comment about adopting Erica! He just loves her a lot and wants to be in her life in a permanent kind of way, and he's a dramatic dork. If he had to pin down a specific extant familial role he literally wanted with Erica, it would probably be "weird gay uncle." The Sinclair fam seems relatively stable/healthy which is a rarity for these kids, but family can always expand, and Eddie is definitely angling to be another part of Erica's familial-type support network. That's just way too awkward and serious a thing to say, hence: joke about adoption.
I actually didn't mean for the Steddie part to come on so strong, but I put them in Steve's house because I thought it'd be funny to have a bit about Dustin casually breaking in to all their houses, and then it became instantly clear when Steve opened the door that the whole setup would be some kind of wild domestic fantasy for him. Like, in his head Eddie is already 100% wifed up. (Not that I think that would be a particularly comfortable dynamic for Eddie, but Steve's allowed to have his little fantasies.)
And then I just wanted to write a little bit about them being really comfortable with each other and being a team, taking care of each other as they deal with the minor inconveniences of everyday life, working together to look out for kids who are their friends but not quite their peers.
I don't think I got too deep into that particular dynamic, but it's one I'm pretty invested in; they're really only a few years older than the kids, but they're also responsible for the kids' care, and it's a very nuanced thing. I've been on both sides of that, and it's an absolutely incredible gift either way. Having friends who are a little further along their paths than you is amazing; having friends who you can provide for and support is amazing. It gives you so much perspective. I don't think of my mentees (for lack of a better word) as anything like my children, and I don't think Steve and Eddie think of the Party that way either. It's a very specific dynamic that I might need to spend more time on in a later fic.
As for the ending...normally I go hard on the pining, as y'all know by now, but this just felt like a very different thing was happening. Also, one time a girl did pull that "talk about what? lol jk come here" thing on me IRL and it was very cute.
Finally, just because I did in fact come up with them, here are the Party names and pony types:
Dustin: Jester the Pegasus Pony
Lucas: Nettle the Pegasus Pony
Mike: Skullcrusher the Earth Pony
Will: Glint the Unicorn
Eddie: Belladonna the Flutter Pony

My love for the Ghtroc Industries Class 720 Freighter, that void angel of the galaxy far far away, is… not exactly well-documented, but I have posted about it! But there are also other cool light freighters you can use if you don't want to just default to the tired old YT-1300.
Tumblr media
Our first specimen is actually pretty famous if you grew up with Star Wars in the 90s. It's the Corellian HWK-290 Light Freighter, the most famous craft of its type being the Moldy Crow, which ferried one Kyle Katarn on his early missions for the Rebel Alliance and beyond. Gorgeous. It just looks like a proper space ship, doesn't it?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But what if you just can't help but crave that familiar saucer shape while still wanting something a bit more original? Well it turns out that Corellian Engineering Corporation made a bunch of other ships in the YT series! Here's a couple that, again, the 90s kids will know. The YT-2000, exemplified by the Otana, flown most famously by Ace Azzameen. And who could forget the YT-2400, made famous by Dash Rendar's Outrider? There's also a whole bunch of others!
I left out the VCX-100 (Ghost) and the Dynamic Class (Ebon Hawk) because I think pretty much everyone knows those.
But what all of these lack compared to the Ghtroc Industries Class 720 Freighter, is that there isn't really a famous one of those. Sure, Luke had one in that one book, but it was pretty much just for ferrying his X-Wing. So if you're in the market for a crummy space truck, look no further than the trusty Class 720, and make yours the ship of its kind!

leia thinking about pirates ships and the later falls in love with a smuggler with a heart of gold 🥹
Leia trying to identify ships and being excited to see a ranger scouting for pirates because she has that innate hunger for adventure and loves ships, and apparently this is a hobby of hers to the point where she can identify ships on sight
then eventually she meets a cocky smuggler who ALSO loves ships and flying, who owns a ship that she can probably immediately identify as a Corellian YT-1300 light freighter, aka an outdated piece of junk... except for once she's not entirely right, it's been upgraded, it has some illegal weapons and modifications and works better than it has any right to, and just like its owner, first impressions are misleading and there's more to it/him than meets the eye
I LOVE IT
