W4D4: What's next? Can't lose hope or faith as nothing is visible yet to my human eyes.
As I’ve watch roles come and go, I remember God speaking to me to have faith like Jacob from Genesis 31 and the reinforcement of trusting God like Joshua and Caleb in Numbers 13-14, and to be bold and courageous like Joshua as Moses and God commanded him as he was leading everyone into the promised land. So, what’s next? I’m not sure. I am choosing to walk by faith and not by sight. I am choosing…

just reread whump au for the nth time now, and it suddenly occurred to me what in god's name would've happened if dipper just straight up kicked the bucket right after saying, "i love you."
i can't imagine bill's reaction would've been a good one. i'm getting chills just trying to picture it, honestly.
in fact, just the image of dipper dying in general, and seeing the aftermath of that from bill's pov, has my whole body breaking out into goosebumps.
awesome.
also, let's just assume that bill hasn't yet figured out the whole reincarnation thing in this scenario aha
(i just really like angst okay? lmao)
Oh man, Bill? Oh Bill. Bill.
He would be very, very upset.
Also this is a good opportunity for the ol' classic:

W3D1: The Search continues...
God is so good that as I was typing the title an email came in with 17 options to look into today. He is so faithful as one door locked closed a new door appeared to start knocking on. God’s plans are for good and not for evil, to give us a hope and a future, so as I get up and get going today, I grab a hold of this truth and step into it with the joy of the Lord as my strength. I’ve learned over…

I get why we all disliked his character by the end of season 2 (good writing, acting, and character development), but fans who are still so angry with Nathan and SO against him having a redemption arc here in season 3 perplex me so much. Realizing your fuck-ups and bettering yourself by finding the positives in the people and life around you and in turn helping those people to do the same are surface level themes of the show, and instead of engaging with that you’re going to roll your eyes and say the show should just abandon Nathan by the wayside? Another frequent theme is the ways we mask our insecurities and how often those defenses are actually damaging to ourselves and the people around us. Which, again, is prominent in So Many characters, but you just choose not to care when it's about Nathan? You watched Jamie's and Rebecca's (also well-written) whole turnaround stories but don't think Nathan deserves or could have the same thing, huh?

I think it was reading @numptypylon's fic that helped cinch it for me, metaphor wise (which kudos for nailing the path metaphor emphasis like seasons ahead) in regards to like Callum and Rayla's devotion?
Because they've always felt equally devoted to me, but with two kind of caveats between both thought process and manifestation
When it comes to how that devotion manifests, we see repeatedly that for Rayla it doesn't always equal the same kind of prioritization that Callum offers (she tends to just have the Most Faith in her loved ones ever??) which makes sense given the way she knew her parents + Runaan loved her but she didn't always feel like their priority, and that they'd do things that were for her yes but also for the common good lumped in together. Whereas with Callum if he's devoted to you, you will be his #1 priority at least 75% to 99% of the time when it comes down to it, because that is how he shows devotion/love through consistency and persistence / general Togetherness
But the other one in terms of thought process / operation is where the paths metaphor Numpty uses I think is really useful and apt, and kind of perfectly illustrates how I & many others see them, because it's like...
Like Callum, Rayla will walk down every path she sees as an option to keep her loved one(s) safe, but unlike Callum, she just fundamentally doesn't see certain paths.
It's not that she sees them as options and doesn't pick 'em, it's that they don't even occur to her as concepts (i.e. she knew Claudia and her bag of dark magic ingredients were there in 2x07 and that there was a chain breaking spell, but it's very clear Rayla never would've considered that as a option given how she does approach freeing the dragon).
Meanwhile Callum, due to his immense intelligence and creative thinking, does see well - creative solutions. He does see those paths (like in 2x07) and because he sees them, because they are presented as options, he can and and will and has gone down those roads. Like Rayla, he'll take every path he sees - he just sees more of them than she does
and Idk, I think it's a very nice piece of not only description but very strong characterization

in conclusion the most poignant thing about ruina is its running theme of Imperfection. imperfection, focused not on its flaws, but on the miracle of it existing to begin with. imperfection not as a failing, but as a triumph. its cracked, broken, deeply in need of repair-- but it's real and its ours and it exists. despite everything it exists and that enough is a relief beyond words, beyond expression. to present a toppled structure not as a conclusion, but an opportunity.
its the choice-- and the joy-- of looking forward, unflinchingly, and facing it. one step at a time.

Asking "Can/Will the Ratgrinders be redeemed" I think is the wrong question. Truthfully we don't know anything about 3/6 of them. We have very little insight into their motivations. Of the ones we do know about its like:
Buddy: yeah probably. He didn't know the plan and he's possibly going through a Bucky/Kristen-esque arc. He is the most in the dark and the least involved.
The other two could go either way. Ruben hasn't been particularly antagonistic to the Bad Kids per se and said something nice about Lucy. Emily put in a lot of work to try to drive a wedge between him and Kipperlilly and so it would be nice if it paid off. But it could really go either way. Kipperlilly is obviously a huge antagonist with a lot of shit going on but by herself (without Porter) she wasn't evil. But we don't know how willing/unwilling she is to be evil.
Everyone brings up Ragh and Aelwyn but what they forget is that, Dayne got fully murdered. Aelwyn, from the start, had a clear tragic backstory of also being in an abusive family. Even in freshmen year when we didn't see it so front and centre, people accurately clocked the abusive dynamic of "golden child, bad child" and how it could harm Aelwyn too. Alternatively, Ragh didn't have a clear backstory until after he'd been spared, he was just so low on the chain of command that it didn't matter. None of our current knowledge indicates where any of the Ratgrinders (save Kipperlilly) could fall on that spectrum of sympathy to ineffectualness that will ultimately be the core features of whether or not they get redeemed.
Very crucially this could be influenced by how much each of the players find them sympathetic (in which case Mary-Ann may have a good shot) but ultimately, we (and the players) lack the information to determine their degree of consent to their involvement and willingness to change and so its pointless to speculate
The question we should be asking is what's up with Jace
