Welcome to TikTok where since the Doctor Who 60th Anniversary specials aired, you're not allowed to like David Tennant's doctors and that apparently means you can't love Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor either!!

Current Events in Silm fandom rlly reinforce my feeling that, despite claiming an ethos of acceptance/tolerance of anything that doesn't hurt ppl, a lot of ppl in the section of Silm fandom I frequent do follow a set of socially-agreed-upon mores about what concepts are "not acceptable" to discuss or propose (or the ways in which certain topics must be discussed to be acceptable), that you all seem to have agreed on despite the things those mores restrict not being harmful to anyone.
And when someone does say smth that violates those mores, the response is disproportionate to the amount of harm done (which is typically none, imo). I know it's tempting to say "but we just want people to be comfortable and safe", but treating ppl badly for the sin of sharing thoughts you dislike is NOT the same as preventing people from doing things that are harmful. The former is much more of a harmful behavior than the sharing of the thoughts that sets it off. Fannish etiquette, people: you shouldn’t act like someone’s meta makes them morally suspect just because you disagree with it; save the “this is morally bad” for things that are ACTUALLY harmful. We're all stuck on this website together & if you want to have any sort of community, you need to ACT like you're in a community, and that means letting other people say things you dislike. Block them if you need to! I block people all the time because i know it's better for me AND for them if we can both blog in peace.
I am not particularly comfortable with the young-queer-on-tumblr silm fandom rn due to this tendency to rebuke things that are uncomfortable rather than harmful. Maybe that's fine with you. But if your goal is to make all fans feel comfortable and accepted, you need to actually do that. If your goal is to make people who share your unwritten rules comfortable in your space, you need to admit that, and write those rules down, and curate your space so it follows them.
Edited 8:10am PST to clarify the specifics of the behavior I find concerning.

Not only do I not care if the vast majority of the submarine fuckos make it I'm actually getting more and more pissed off the more I read.
They chose to step into a tiny metal tube piloted by an off brand ps2 controller, and then descend to levels that would make rescue nearly impossible if not objectively impossible. Now that the "this shit is going to fuck up" machine has fucked up they're scrambling governments and likely spending millions of dollars of tax payer money to rescue them, when a fraction of that would have stopped the incident from happening in the first place. When the regulations that were ignored could have prevented this.
I do not have sympathy for a Mt. Everest climber that dresses in shorts, a t-shirt, and bought his climbing gear off wish who (who could have seen this coming?!) needs rescuing. Not only do I not have sympathy but I'm pissed off at their recklessness and the immense impacts that their dumb actions are having on others.
My only sympathy for any of the 5 is with the 19 year old, because at that age you're gonna trust your dad wouldn't put you in an inescapable deathtrap.

i love when people are like “oh i definitely think bloodraven’s methods are evil but i do think his goals are noble” no i’m saying i think his goal is evil he just doesn’t realize exactly how evil or he just doesn’t care. i think he’s bran’s evil mentor and the turning point in both of their stories will be whether bran ~accepts the pomegranate seeds~ or whether he rejects them. bran is fleeing that cave no matter what he chooses, but he will choose and brynden is gonna have an opinion on that choice!!

spider-man (to get your attention)
so i was sitting here doing my makeup and thinking about Officer Morale and Uncle Aaron and all that good stuff (spoilers for both movies ahead I think)
and i was thinking, how was there not some big scandal about The Prowler dying and being discovered to be the brother of Good Cop Officer Morales, soon to be captain???
weak theory 1: officer morales managed to keep on the down low that his dead brother was wearing the prowler suit and either in good faith or with money managed to have his fellow officers and the coroner not say anything.
weak theory 2: the prowler was SO GOOD at his job that nobody ever saw him and so when he died and his suit was found, nobody was concerned because nobody knew.
realistic theory: plot armor
anyway

I made the mistake of scrolling the dash last night, hoping to re-engage my Loki fandom feels, only to be reminded of why I've more or less quit this fandom - which, for the record, is bc I don't know if it's purity culture or "woke" culture or just "for the love of god, I'm begging you to touch grass" culture, but I'd like to engage with my blorbo without running into posts spouting takes like "saying Loki has small, slender hands is a feminization kink (and therefore bad)." Like?? I think there's something inherently anti-genderfluidity(?) to assume that men can't have small, slender hands or that having small, slender hands is automatically a feminine trait, and also Loki does have small, slender hands, and also even if it is being written as some kind of a kink, so what? Why are we kink-shaming?
I mean, I don't know, it just seems like there are more and more and more things that are being shamed, or criticized, based on an arbitrary sense of morality that undermines fiction as a creative, explorative form of art and it's just beyond exhausting - and fucking obnoxious - at this point.

venting under the cut
i know people have big feelings about darkfics/yandere/ect and i get it, i do. its not everyone's cup of tea and no one should read things that make them uncomfortable. but i would love for people just fucking tag pregnancy/parent fics. I have the tags blocked, i have the content filtered, and yet bc some of the posts don't say "pregnant" or "pregnancy" at all, they still show up!! bc guess what? they never have warnings or tags or ANYTHING that lets me know what im getting into!!
and this is not* the case i've seen in darkfics, where there often are multiple explicit warnings of whats included. but because pregnancy is seen as "vanilla" enough i guess it doesnt need a warning??? im just tired of it.
idk this isnt necessarily important but i just think if yall gave the same energy to tagging all fics appropriately instead of being the morality police for what other people write i think we'd all have a better time in the fandom but thats just my opinion.

Y’all absolutely need to touch grass if you’re policing the sanctity of a fictional character and that goes double if you are harassing real people over it.
It’s alright if you’re uncomfy with other people’s characterizations or projected desires onto your smol bean-ified comfort characters. There are more things than I can count that weird me out in fandoms. But to react as if you are morally superior than someone else because of your preferences or act as if you being offended is equal to actual real-life harm is absolutely wild.
Fictional characters are a conglomerate of flattened personality traits and aesthetics, nothing more. In most cases, everything is arbitrary. In all cases, everything is make-believe.
So, like… maybe take a breather.

just saw a bad and annoying dw take (rlly weird jackbashing) and naturally I went to instantly block them bc I will block people for anything (anddd secretly bc I like to check their vibes to validate my blocking) only to IMMEDIATELY see that they are a h*rry p*tter poster. I swear literally every time I get bad vibes off of a post and go to check ops blog there’s always something shitty about them, I’m simply always correct

I can just imagine how much of a field day Marcel and Vincent would have when they find out that Klaus has had his existence continuously embarrassed by a self taught, teenage novice witch. His reputation would be in shambles, if that got out.
Would’ve laughed until tears came out their eyes fr. A thousand years old but couldn’t beat a self-taught witch at her own game. The only way for Klaus to rectify his shame is by seducing, fucking and keeping Bonnie for himself. Then he’ll believe things are even. He’s lost but it’s to the woman he yearns for.
Thank you for the ask

I got mad about how genuinely pretentious and condescending people on here about things that honestly don't even matter that much and so I went oh I know and I went to a mutual in law's blog because I KNOW they have the exact same views as me on them but they articulate them so much better and bam I got like six posts in a row of excellent compassionate measured responses to the very mean-spirited and meaninglessly cruel culture on here surrounding 'anti-intellectualism' and also calling people virgins in a derogatory way. like thanks! gotta jet
