Cannot believe at this late stage of my life I'm becoming a Gabriel fucker. Local mean jock doesn't want to be evil now, he wants to be loved. I'm slightly annoyed they didn't make Beelzebub more unhinged because the "plot" should have been at least half about them fucking up shit on an absolute rampage trying to find Gabriel, a thing everyone assumes they are doing to fry him with hellfire so they can kick off the war in a way that's advantageous to hell, BUT ACTUALLY!!! true love.

It's so difficult, because I genuinely do want to understand what the whole deal with Christianity is, but Christians are so apposed to any line of questioning about their belief system (in a way that no other religion is) that if you say anything they don't like they shut down and accuse you of being a sinner.

And it's like bro, I'm not trying to be insulting, I'm trying to understand why this religion is even appealing to you. How do you manage to get so many converts when you're not even willing to answer basic questions about your theology?

Everyone I've found who's actually willing to discuss Christian theology with me is an ex-Christian which is super unhelpful, because ex-Christians are people who have deconstructed Christian belief and come to the conclusion that it doesn't work for them. They're always very cynical about the whole situation. That's not what I'm looking for.

I want to talk to someone who's still into it. I want to understand what actually draws people to this religion ( I do not want to be trauma dumped at - I don't know what aspect of Christian belief confuses y'all into thinking that trauma dumping is an appropriate substitute for theological discussion, but it absolutely isn't).

Like you would really think for one of the most popular religions in the world finding answers to this stuff would be easier. Why can't you guys just talk about your beliefs?

#Christianity #religion #like I just don't understand #if the basic conceit of the religion is that God sent his only son down to Earth so that he could relate to and better understand humans #then I have a lot of questions #because a) if he's a all knowing god why does he need help understanding humans anyway?#b) if you're taking the Bible literally. Why would he then require Jesus to be celibate and die at 30?#like aren't sex and aging and relationships all parts of the human experience that god would want to know about?#and c) if you're taking the Bible metaphorically. The meaning of this story seems to be #that the divine will never truly relate to or understand you. That you are infact so different from the divine #that if an aspect of god came down from the heavens to interact with the people #your sins and the sins of your community as a whole would kill that divinity before it could live out a full human life #which is a genuinely interesting concept! like I would read a novel with that plot #but I don't understand why that's appealing from a faith perspective #is the appeal the act of forgiveness afterwards?#like the divine are so fundamentally different from us that we would kill them but they would forgive us for that difference anyway #why is difference something that must be forgiven rather than accepted?#like do you see why I'm confused by this stuff?#anyways #posting to this blog because a surprising number of Christians follow me here #maybe one of y'all can help me understand

#we speak #internet teenagers keep coming to us as like the only authority figure on hand who will treat them like people #and we're like... please... we don't want to be an authority figure... why do all of your parents suck so hard...#like we're willing to offer ourself as an anchor as well as we can because we've Been there and know how it feels #but like damn. who the fuck let your families suck this bad. how on earth have situations managed to produce enough of you #that we end up being cast as The Only Adult On Hand Willing To Listen And Talk Through Things MULTIPLE TIMES #and perhaps more importantly why are we the only person in random fandom discords who is willing to treat teenagers like People #weren't the rest of you also teenagers at some point??? don't you like remember how it feels like to not have agency for shit???#experiencing the “only person in the room who's willing to take a position” thing #despite there being like multiple other people in the room who should be WAY more qualified for this #how does this keep happening and more importantly why are we the only guy in the area who is doing anything to help #just to stress this point #we are trying our hardest to NOT be an authority figure because historically it ends terrible for us due to The Mental Health Issue #but somehow we are continually running into situations where we're the only guy willing to come up to plate #the syndromes. the issues. we are so fucking glad that this particular wave is coming now instead of A Few Years Ago #something something progress but also we dislike that we have to be the one handling these situations #because we shouldn't be considered a primary point of stability in anyone's life and the fact that we ARE a stable point to anyone is uhh #weird to think about. who let this happen. we're not old enough to be a parent #and we also find it very alarming that there are so many of you out there who are severely lacking in support #someone needs to work out a childcare arrangement system that doesn't suck because the current one really isn't doing it #while we're at it we can start overhauling the culture that landed us in being the only person willing to listen to people like ever #and maybe make it so we don't have to be a primary support because people are sufficiently supported already

i don't want to put my uninformed foot in my mouth or get involved with the Discourse but i've been seeing the two extremes of reactions to the korean low birth rates issue (on tumblr and twitter both) and i'm just kind of like. look. i feel like "low birth rates (in many countries but especially japan and korea as part of this conversation) are more broadly the result of capitalism/a culture of overwhelming overwork that makes social relationships and having families incredibly inaccessible to young people" and "low birth rates are very much a part of the current conversation about misogyny and social expectations for women in korea especially in the context of reproduction as 'unpaid labor' for women" are statements that can both be true

#laughs awkwardly #gender #especially considering the ways patriarchal expectations and capitalism very much intersect in terms of quality of life for women #ex. women being expected to have kids / raise kids / do all the housework and cooking in a relationship #while ALSO existing in a society where women (even married women) have to work demanding jobs to deal with the high cost of living #AND women are systemically discriminated against in terms of pay / job availability / work environment and harassment #all of these things add up. these conversations are not opposing points of view. you know?#and also like. not super comfortable with how TERFs are discussed in terms of non-white cultures #TERFism / radfems as a MOVEMENT (and a cult) is very much rooted in white supremacy / ideals of womanhood #again. multiple things can be true at the same time. yes i do see (from my perspective involved in taiwanese social media)#some east asian feminists engage in transphobia in ways that approach radfem rhetoric ('women are victims of men' 'men are predators'#type generalized sentiments which you can imagine gains a lot of traction among women traumatized by patriarchy)#but movement-wise i don't think it's fair (or just in good faith) to generalize radical feminists from non-white countries #to straight up TERFs. which again. rooted in white supremacy. keep feeling like i have to remind people it doesn't make sense #for asians to be white supremacists and that not all oppression on earth stems directly from white people. you weirdos #'what are you talking about' in east asia the type of feminist statements called 'radical' are stuff like.#women shouldn't have to wear make up every time they go outside. women shouldn't be expected to do all housework.#should men pay for women on dates. debates that i think in the states we kind of take for granted as stuff settled years ago #even if some feminists might be transphobic it's not necessarily Transphobia As Core Tenets Of The Movement. does anyone get the difference #basically what i'm saying is. wow these tags got long. maybe let's not apply uniform standards of 'correct language and values'#to non-white people and attack them when as all movements they are fluid and influenced by the people living in it #TERF-style transphobia is not the predestined course for them. maybe it's more productive to have open discussions about transphobia #to work towards inclusivity and solidarity in these movements than to prescribe White Internet Morality to them #and declare that they're evil when they are still very much having conversations that need to be had. thanks i think that's all #essentially. i find that 'how dare a non-american movement not have morally pristine vocabulary priorities and membership #as determined by white leftists' to be in itself kinda a racist attitude

started watching hopecore right before bed and MAN. what a life it is we live on this earth.

#it's a lottery every time someone is born!!! people achieve their dreams every day #others die. others bury loved ones. others get married. others have kids. others separate. still others choose to be alone #and what decides your path is largely up to who conceived you; where and at what time #the rest is blindly writhing around trying to change your circumstances and sometimes there's luck #every single person on this planet has their own inner monologue. their own family. their own dreams #we all just wade through our experiences and maybe leave a cascade of small influences around us #and at and time BOOM! you could just crease to exist!! you could walk outside right now and get struck by lightning #and your story is over #i guess no one is ever ready to think about stuff like that. but it's the truth #and the hardest question you'll ever have to answer is 'how do i spend my time in a way that leaves me truly happy?'#i don't think anyone ever knows the answer to that. not quickly at least #but no matter what you do the sun still rises the next morning and the moon comes out the next night #our rocks in space rotate and revolve like they have done for billions of years. and they'll keep doing it #time stops for no one. we all live and die. and no one but you can decide what will make you happy in the end #this weird little science experiment we are. our little self contained world #we're essentially the universe's terrarium. we're the little tiny creatures that live and reproduce and die inside #and what's it all for anyway? I don't know if I've ever mentioned this before, but Venera's name actually means venus. which, while not seeming overtly necessary information at first glance, actually is something I was losing my mind over yesterday because. the three brightest objects in the sky, in order, are the sun, the moon, and venus.
