"Israel!" Lucius calls when Izzy comes on deck, his lilting voice naturally making the name go a little sing-song. Ed grins meanly and turns to face what will soon be a spectacle, sipping his morning tea. It's not that he has anything against Lucius, but if he ever did he'd well ruined his chances to retaliate for anything at all forever with the whole attempted murder thing.
But, Izzy doesn't rush up and stab Lucius. He doesn't even yell. He looks over, rolls his eyes, and walks - ambles, really - over toward the boy, his body language relaxed and his sword untouched.
"Whfuck- You're letting him call you that?" Ed blurts, shocked and- Well. Jealous. That's their thing. His. Izzy turns on him, only now going quick-footed and hard-shouldered. Fuck.
"What, you can give other people privileges and I can't?" he demands. Ed shifts on his feet, rubs the back of his neck. When Izzy puts it like that...
"Guess you can do what you want," Ed mumbles, accepting the call out. But Izzy's eyebrows jump real high, and Ed knows he should have phrased it different (should've thought it different).
"Oh, thank you for the permission," he sneers. "Captain."
Ed flinches at the formal - distant - form of address; it hits him just like a punch.
"That's fair," he says. "That's fair."
