Myself, my sister (on IG at hannahhones) and our camping neighbor Latoya at Vikingscon a couple weeks ago. It was a bizarrely warm weekend, but that made camping easy.

One of the things that's been annoying more and more is modern media depictions of vikings where they basically dress in bland colored furs and leather and they look and act like Klingons.

Wish more movies and TV shows would have the gumption to use accurate costumes.

Also throughout all periods of history people wore colors!!! Even the puritans wore colors and only wore black on Sunday.

some of your thoughts on iron islands fashion? I'm esp interested in house harlaw with their acceptance of greenlander influences!
Hi yes!! I know Norse clothing is kinda the default for iron islanders but I feel like it works really well
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Life on the iron islands canonically sucks donkey balls, so the shitty living conditions paired with their failed pirating role play means that there isn’t much commerce going on. For common folk, it’s all roughspun work clothes, women wear a shift, a rough gown and possibly a shorter apron (held up with brooches) depending on the occasion. For men it’s a tunic and big pants that can be tied at the ankle for practicality. It’s all ab practicality. The only jewelry is the stuff they stole
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also when they reave the coasts, their asses are NAWT wearing proper armor which makes sense bc they’re always on boats but is a tiny issue once they step off and realize their enemies are wearing hard plate armor and they’re wearing a rough leather jerkin or loose ring mail AT BEST. Just light armor, shitty weapons, untied hair flying around in their face, and vibes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For wealthy women, there is a noticeable difference from the smallfolk, but they wouldn’t be distinguishable anywhere else in the seven kingdoms. That apron is always going to be there as a display of extra fabric and hence extra wealth, and it’s always very much decorated with their fathers/husbands stolen trinkets. Much more colorful and finely spun fabrics too. Wealthy men probably wear similar silhouettes to the small folk (just neater and better made) bc they can’t be seen as bitch boys with soft hands (looking at you theon)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On Harlaw, with the greenlander influences, there is some difference, especially the chest and waist. While typical islander clothing isn’t very tight or belted extremely, it’s noticeably more prominent on Harlaw. There is also a cross over with the traditional apron/westerlands overdress that leads to a mix between the two fashions. There might also be more trade here and hence a larger variety of fabrics and jewelry compared to the rest of the islands
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And for priests and priestesses of the drowned god the show actually got the vibes right. Just gross old tattered robes bc they aren’t *worldly*, driftwood carving headdresses and charms. Fishing nets draped across their shoulders. Seaweed braided into their hair and covering their eyes bc the drowned god leads the way. Just sheer perfection when it comes to unsettling vibes

Noblewoman Set - from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (kinda)
I wrote kinda because the cape was a dress I turned into a cape and to which I added a fur piece, tho it’s still Ubisoft’s doing :p
> Dress/outfit is 11k poly, necklace (not the one pictured, but a similar one) is 1,8k poly and finally the actual cape (accessory category) is 7,3k poly.
> Everything has morphs (I think I included pregnancy morphs) + is fully recolorable except for the belt/bag and some patterns (aka you can change the colour but the pattern won’t dissapear)
> known issues: the bag will show on top of the cape and the cape’s back part might stretch with your sim’s arms - both issues couldn’t be fixed without ruining something else from the mesh but the outfit is great still (;
> As always, credits to Ubisoft/Assassin’s Creed Valhalla for the meshes + textures. Please check my terms of use if you’re planning on converting this to another sims game (:

Had such a great time at the Viking Market in Witten this weekend! I also finally got to wear my first Old Norse outfit that I have been working on for the past few weeks :)
This was a project with a lot of firsts. My first time making an apron dress and my first attempt at natural dyeing.
The apron dress I am really happy with, it turned out so pretty and comfy.
The dyeing... well, I was planning on having a red dress, but turns out when you don't read the instructions right and use less than a third of the madder root you're supposed to, you get a lovely shade of pink! I'm honestly just glad it's not white anymore.

my battle jackets from the 2010's. both took a couple years to put together the collections and hand sew the pieces on as i went along. neither one feels like "me" anymore, they're kind of relics of a version of myself/gender presentation i've since moved on from, but they're still neat to pull out every once in a while. both are thrifted bases that use bits of cherished old clothes that fell apart, so they carry a lot of history.
