Good Morning -
Has your beautiful heart ever been hurt, betrayed, or broken?
Remember your first breakup?
The songs on repeat. The tears. The into the night wondering why.
Perhaps some of you expressed that sadness in words. (like yours truly)
If only hearts came wrapped with protection.
With experience we learn how to shield our hearts.
That person who broke your heart?
Learn from it. Move on.
The world offers millions more, and 1 will become your one in a million.
Look forward to that.
Love,

Verdura (Fulco Santostefano della Cerda, Duke of Verdura and Marquis of Murata la Cerda) for Chanel, Maltese Cross Cuff Bracelet, ca. 1930s, enamel set with amethyst, emerald, sapphire, diamond and rubies
Verdura and Coco Chanel examining one of the Maltese Cross cuffs; Coco Chanel wearing her own pair.
The Maltese Cross Cuff is probably the most iconic piece of jewelry designed by Verdura for Chanel, and is still a cornerstone today of both Verdura and Chanel offerings. The particular cuff at top was bought in the 1930s for legendary EGOT actress Helen Hayes by her husband. It was offered at auction for the first time ever by Bonhams in 2023. Estimated at $150-225K, it achieved $432,300 including premium.

It also got its own moment on film, via Antiques Roadshow:

The Life and Work of a Master Jeweler
Patricia Corbett
Harry N Abrams, New York 2002, 224 pages, 23.5 x 31.31 cm, 238 illustrations of jewelry, sketches, advertisements, and photographs of Verdura's life, 182 of the plates in color. ISBN 978-0810935297
euro 90,00
The exquisite creations of Fulco di Verdura (1898-1978) are noted for their glorious exuberance and refined glamour. Verdura left his ancestral home in Palermo in the mid-1920s and moved to Paris where he hoped to be a painter; his true vocation was revealed once he began designing striking jewelry for the discriminating customers of Coco Chanel.Patricia Corbett documents Verdura’s fascinating career, which took him from Paris to Los Angeles and New York. He was patronized by the rich and famous, who found that his sophisticated and flamboyant neo-Baroque style perfectly complemented their tastes. Marlene Dietrich and Greta Garbo, among others, were devoted admirers, along with many of society’s prominent figures, including the Duchess of Windsor and legendary fashion editor Diana Vreeland.Corbett was given access to all of Verdura’s archives and interviewed many of his surviving patrons. Wonderful color photography of the jewelry, as well as the archival images of Verdura and the people who wore his pieces, bring the irresistible beauty and genius of Verdura’s designs to life.
