Pokémon Ship Week Day 6! Today's prompt is Firsts. Enjoy your Vanivilleshipping!
His heart was pounding so hard in his chest he swore it was a Pangoro using Mega Punch. It was another day in Vanville. The whole gang was there. Calem, Tierno, Shauna, himself, and Serena. It was a wonderful auburn day, with the leaves falling off of the tree. He had his gift for her in his bag. He wanted to gift it to her, but consistently, he’d find a perfectly good moment to propose… and then he’d swallow his tongue. We were all having such a good time, he thought. He didn’t want to ruin the mood, maybe make it awkward by asking her out on a date or something only to have her turn him down. The friend dynamic that brought them together was now betraying him. This would be ironic if his brain would let him think of such a thing.
“So then, I tell him, no, not electric, Eelektross!” Calem’s joke was a home run with the group, making the others double over in laughter. And Trevor was so busy having chicken skin he didn’t even notice the joke. Calem gave him a playful shoulder nudge to snap him out of it, but he felt the light dampness on his skin.
“Woah, Trevs, you okay?” He gripped the brim of his hat as he spoke to his friend. Trevor just nodded.
“Y-yeah, perfectly fine. Sorry, I was uh, thinking about Pokedex stuff.” He stammered back.
Calem just smiled, but Tierno couldn’t help but get a quip in. “You’re looking kinda sweaty, bro. Maybe if you got a different haircut you’d ventilate a bit better.”
Tierno laughed, but Serena came in for Trevor’s defense. “Aw, lay off of him a bit. His hair style is cute and fashionable, you know.”
Trevor swore that every vein in his heart clutched for just a second. Cute?! Then… maybe there really was a feeling being reciprocated?! Wait, is she just being nice? No, there’s no way, right?!
“Here Trevor.” Shauna handed him a handkerchief. “Wipe yourself down! I’d hate to see your sweater get stained.”
“T-thanks Shauna.” He patted himself dry, and sighed happily. He was glad he at least had one friend to make this a bit easier.
“Hey guys,” Calem began to speak again, checking his watch as he adjusted the sleeve of his blue jumpsuit. “I gotta make a call with Sycamore. Break here for a bit?”
“Sure, I’ll go practice my dance moves over there.” Tierno hopped out.
“I’ll go use the restroom. Be right back!” Shauna scurried off. Calem nodded, gripping his hat as he moved out to make his call. That left Trevor and Serena together.
She sat on the stone planter, in her usual attire. Stylish red hat with shades. Red skirt. Black top. And he was just Trevor. He sighed deeply as her eyes seemed to gaze off into nothing. He scooted close to her, and before he could clear his voice, his hand accidentally brushed against her hip, making her turn her head quickly to face him. He was paralyzed, staring right back at her eyes. Her face went from neutral to a slight smile.
“You look like you’ve had something to say since we all agreed to meet up here.” Serena just giggled. Trevor’s heart fluttered. He closed his eyes and inhaled deeply. With a silent nod, he reached into his bag and pulled out a heart-shaped box. With a flick of his wrist, he opened it up, and Serena went wide-eyed.
It was an assortment of Sweet Hearts. Some were plain. Some were covered in sprinkles. One was even drizzled with white chocolate; Serena’s favorite. But it was as obvious to anyone that this was Trevor’s way of confessing his love to her. Each chocolate was immaculately pressed and laid into the box. Normally, someone can only get one of these once a day in Camphrier Town, so to have a whole set meant that Trevor was dedicated. Serena’s mouth curled into a soft shape, and a blush came across her cheeks.
“Trevor…” She took the Sweet Heart box into her lap and smiled brightly. “I… I don’t even know what to say.”
He sighed, thinking this is a good sign so far. But he couldn’t help and say it.
“I love you, Serena.”
She turned to him and smiled back. She brought a hand up and began to place it on his thick head of hair, her thumb and fingertips massaging his scalp.
“...I love you too, Trevor.”
“R-Really?!” He almost burst with his response, before clutching his hands to his mouth. This just made Serena giggle. She was not oblivious to how fanciful she looked; she must’ve made Trevor extremely nervous with her style and grace, she thought.
“Yeah. Yes. I mean it. But why tell me now, hm? Why not sooner?”
“...I was always so intimidated. I always thought that maybe you’d, you know, have feelings for someone else, like Calem, or I dunno, Grant or something. And then I didn’t say anything. I almost didn’t even say it today because I was afraid of, you know, making things awkward.”
“Were you afraid I was going to turn you down?”
“I was afraid to hear you say you were taken. But then my mind thought, that if you were taken, I’d rather find out than let the thoughts just rot in my brain. So…here I am.”
The two stared at each other after he let his mind speak.
“Do you like the Sweet He-”
Before he could finish his question, he felt a warmth on his lips. She kissed him. Eyes closed, a hand on his shoulder. He stopped trying to speak. He just closed his eyes and felt her taste on his lips too. His first kiss. Eventually she’d pull back with a giggle and a wink.
“I’m sure I’ll love them, but I’d rather share them with you, Trevor~.” Serena winked yet again. “I’ll save these for later once the rest are gone. Then you and I can have our first date. What do you say?”
Trevor smiled in earnest for the first time today. He nodded, and the two scooted up to each other on the planter, hands holding each other as their fingers intertwined.

Best Pokémon Protagonist Tournament- Round 1: Match 1
The first proper match of the tournament puts Serena, Vaniville's new arrival and fashionista, up against Ethan, the pride of Cherrygrove.
Serena and her counterpart heralded in an age of trainer customisation, and yet, her design remains popular! Her style matches perfectly the region of Kalos, and having a mother with even a little depth helps her stand out.
Ethan had the unenviable task of being the follow up protagonist to the original, iconic Red. But in some ways, his Ultra Ball hat and slightly cooler style makes him just as iconic.
I'm sure this will be the first of many difficult choices ahead!

Scan/touch-up work via Mixeli. It's so weird that Alexa gets such a detailed concept art, a relation to a Gym Leader, and her own unique character model...
And literally the only thing she does in game is serve as a bit of a guide in Lumiose, and give us the EXP Share. (I thought she would have an extended role in the games too, since she was heavily promoted during the last arc of Best Wishes.)
Least the manga gives her a more of an extended role, where she tries breaking the truth about Vaniville's destruction and Team Flare, but is attacked/almost has her head reduced to a smear by her boss. Team Flare really does not fuck around in the manga, like they are genuinely scary there.
(It would have been cool seeing her get a role in trying to expose Flare in the games too, especially since we could have seen Malva getting an earlier introduction, and since their control over the media is something you only realize after Flare's real threat has already been taken care of.)

Miscellaneous rival cast headcanons | XY
a lot of my headcanons are based on a mix of fanon, manga, anime, pokemon masters, and main game elements put into a blender
calem and serena are 18! not as much a headcanon and more implied canon, they can’t be older than 19 because they are clearly still teenagers but they can’t be younger than 18 because emma (who is canonically 16) makes remarks about them being old. 16 and 17 are too close for that to be the case, so they are at least 18!
shauna is 17, as well as tierno.
trevor is 15 being the youngest, though the smartest and most reliable member of the group.
calem and serena are both trans (calem FTM, serena MTF) serena transitioned before moving to vaniville and helped calem transition with the help from her experience in fashion when he came out.
serena is the protagonist, while calem is the rival as that’s how it’s set in masters.
serena is childhood friends with shauna, and trevor. while calem is childhood friends with serena and tierno, the friend group formed over several years of naturally growing together before they all set off on a journey together
shauna is the type of girl who is a little crush crazy, always hopping from one guy to the next to fawn over. she pretty much instantly fell head over heels for calem when they met (based on her dialogue during the firework show) however, her crushing for calem ends up back firing because of how often calem and serena are near each other; growing into another crush on serena at the same time. hijinks ensue.
grace considers calem to be like one of her own, he’s always welcome in their home no matter what. she occasionally refers to him as her son in law.
serena and calem have insane romantic tension they are utterly oblivious to but everyone is painfully aware of, including shauna who is stewing in very complicated jealousy.
tierno is calem’s closest friend other than serena, anything he can’t bring up to serena for one reason or another gets told to tierno.
tierno is really good at reading people, he pays attention by second nature and despite coming off as rather unserious he has a way of calming people.
tierno had a crush on serena at some point after meeting and has asked her out on three occasions, all being declined. he’s a good sport about it and isn’t afraid to play it for laughs
trevor is very sick and tired of his friends reckless shenanigans, tierno and calem especially.
trevor is the team mom here, he didn’t agree to it but he is.
shauna is a little slow on the uptick, but a big gossip. which means everyone else is a gossip by proxy.
going off of Y’s habit in the manga of being too shameless for her own good with getting dressed in semi public places, serena has the same habit. you get used to it after a while.
despite seemingly having her head in the clouds, shauna will bitch you out if prompted.
serena’s mom, grace, is a single mom. serena is the product of a fling during grace’s younger years as a rhyhorn racer, which is why she’s so overbearing about serena’s future, she wants her to have a good life to overcompensate for that fact.
trevor lives with his grandparents in santalune, his parents work overseas.
tierno lives with his parents in aquacorde town, as does shauna

Pictured here are the houses of many a hero and heroine of the Pokemon anime world, where it all started for them. All of these ones being based on the houses and hometowns from the games and player character hometowns. We had Ash from Pallet Town in Kanto, Dawn from Twinleaf Town in Sinnoh, and Serena from Vaniville Town in Kalos all starting their journeys way back then, and now it’s Liko’s turn, and it seems in a way, she’s just like them.
Liko may not be designed after a game’s player character like Ash, Dawn, and Serena were but she’s still got that trope rooted in her, coming from Paldea and living in a quaint home in the small town of Cabo Poco. Just as Ash, Dawn, and Serena started their journeys in the Pokemon world in the small towns of Pallet Town, Twinleaf Town, and Vaniville Town respectively from their home regions.
And just like them, Liko’s journey in the world of Pokemon has just begun, and she will be on her way to leaving a great legacy in it as she continues to journey across the world throughout Horizons.

It's Serena Appreciation Day
And this came to me while I was scrolling through Twitter posts.
Say Ash moved to Kalos when he was a child. He's not happy at first but Delia's restaurant business is not doing well and she wants to make a fresh start as a tailor. On his first week in Vaniville Town, young Ash meets young Serena and a friendship begins when he gets her to open up.
Team for Ash: Greninja, Pikachu, (Mega Y) Charizard, Sceptile, (Mega) Lucario, and Krookodile.
Team for Serena: Delphox, Pangoro, (Mega) Absol *Shiny*, and Sylveon.

I have obtained a second Pokémon tonight. This little one has valiantly stalked me through the high grass, and followed me and Serena back to Vaniville. She then proceeded to hurl a stick at me with very impressive accuracy. I have taken her under my wing for now. Meet Huntress.
