And, well… quite a few of them have careers and passionate outside of battling, which I think is equally as important. It… stops them from having tunnel vision when it comes to issues that they can play a hand in fixing."

"I was born and grew up in Floaroma Town. When I wasn't at school, rehearsing or somewhere in Eterna Forest, I was helping out with the flower shop. Sometimes, it was taking care of the berry trees and plants there.... other times, I was weaving flower crowns and baskets or pressing plants to sell..."

"And sometimes, part of my help was harvesting a few of the Gracidea flowers the meadow grows. Not for ourselves-- to hand out to visitors that wanted one. You see... there was-- is-- a subset of tourists that come solely to pick flowers from the meadows or steal honey from the pokemon that live in it. Without permission. So, we tried to combat it by picking a few ourselves. Gracideas were given away, one per group, with a limited amount each day... since they were the main flowers that would be stolen. They cannot grow where Shaymin haven't blessed the soil, you see, so you couldn't just pluck one from Floaroma and propagate it. The other species of flowers were sold at the flower shop, and we used it to try and funnel people through there to get whatever souvenir or gift they want, instead of the meadow when they thought weren't looking."

If there is one type of event the heroine has yet to adjust to, it would be this. Gatherings, in a large and meticulously decorated hall, where those with influence float about, hiding displays of influence behind invitation with foiled names of different well-known trainers. They are almost always the same, or so Serena has heard. Promises of champions and their leagues being given a chance to voice their concerns in a more informal setting to those with the power to do something about it. That one chance to be heard; to network with those who deign the culture around raising pokemon beneath them.

In reality, these events render them nothing more than statues. Something to be looked at, a representation of an ideal the attendees believe to champion, and discussed.

She would argue it is far worse than the equivalent in the ballet world. At least during those times, the heroine remarks to herself, topics are not about shares and revenue, but instead skill and the artform itself. And indeed, she would prefer to be suffocated by sickly colognes and perfumes than stares and touchless pushes into conversations not meant for a mere champion's opinion, but the so-called prestige of their presence. To serve as a prop on stage is one thing-- to be lulled into the role for those who could care less is another.

Are the words that escape from the Kalosian champion, although her gaze does not shift away from the sky that sprawls out before the two. This balcony. Despite the unfamiliarity of the event occupying the Parfum Palace's halls, this spot bears a fond memory-- of simpler times; watching fireworks with a friend, before everything. It was an obvious place to seek refuge, or even a moment for the beloved Hero of Kalos to clear her thoughts.

you just KNOW looker, before and after amnesia, would have been the sort to be that one co-worker who insists on showing you photos of his kid

So if Serena ever met Nanu or Anabel... she might know them by name Maybe but these poor fools have already likely been subjected to many impassioned doting rants about her from her dad 🧍‍♂️

{ ooc. I think for the first time in like 3 years I actually slept well, was pumped to get out ot bed, was able to write without feeling stressed AND was able to have a nap instead of "lay down but be too stressed to actually have the nap" 🧍‍♂️ }

{ ooc. I still think it's absolutely wild that from the war 3000 years before xy until the events of xy, xerneas, yveltal and presumably zygarde's names were almost lost to time.

Like, only one person in the entirety of Kalos (aside from Lysandre) was able to give the names and their relation to the war... but even then that npc thinks it was entirely made up, down to xerneas and yveltal being metaphors or fake figures, so the masses could comfort themselves. Xerneas and yveltal?? Not public knowledge in the modern day. Forgotten about entirely by the world. The war happened and then for 3000 years these deities were never spoken of again until xy

That's actually insane (and further supports the theory that xerneas and yveltal were NOT on humanity's side for the war and were trying to protect the pokemon sent in people's steads).

But also rip serena I'm sure when it got out that she befriended Xerneas during the geosenge incident that caused... a lot of mayhem and media attention she most certainly didn't need-- especially while recovering and processing everything that happened }

There was nothing particularly special about the encounter-- Briar was just a Pancham who liked Serena's vibe, and approached shortly after watching Korrina's Lucario (Florian) going out of his way to find her. That and she thought that the way Serena and her pokemon were travelling around looked fun.

Evolved during the month Serena spent at the Tower of Mastery studying mega evolution (During X, after challenging Korrina).

Post-Team Flare, Briar is extremely distrustful of strangers, especially those who she thinks are trying a little too hard to gain Serena's favour, or are in powerful/influential positions. She just does not want a repeat of the situation with Lysandre or for her trainer's kind nature to be taken advantage of again.

Very kind and patient with Serena and her other pokemon-- or anyone who gains her trust, really. Turns from a terrifying, imposing figure who is ready to decimate you at the drop of a hat with no regrets, to an extremely loyal and gentle pokemon who just wants to see those she cares about happy. Fiora, Serena's Leafeon, uses this to her advantage. She might not be able to fight, but Briar can.

Surprisingly, out of all of the pokemon Serena has, Briar gets along the best with Daphne, her Delphox. The two get along famously, and interrupting them during their shenanigans will earn two that, if looks could kill, would vaporise someone on the spot.

In second place would be her Lucario, Florian, for more obvious reasons. Both species naturally are drawn to other individuals who have a strong sense of justice, and will fight to preserve it.

{ ooc. Sometimes I think about the reaction of Serena's friends/teachers/etc. + people from floaroma town back in Sinnoh when her dealing with the whole Team Flare ordeal and stopping the ultimate weapon was becoming international news

Like, they hear about this lone trainer who took them on head-on and saved the region... all this hyping up.... but it's Serena so when they see her it's just

to them. All they knew was she graduated from the academy with offers to work at very prestigious ballet companies, vanished for a year with no explanation immediately after (thanks interpol), and now she's on the news for saving the world }
