Hockey used to be be so good. The best game that I ever went to was stopped three times for blood on the ice.
The goalies started fistfighting each other. I was center ice against the glass and it was fucking magical.

And now for some different hockey.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Last summer I entered a drawing at a local farmers market and won tickets to my towns local hockey team. This is the USHL and the Bucs are playing the Tri City Storm, which is also a local team of another town I lived in. This is a pay to play league.

considering the first place that Nico and Jason meet in hockey AU is Vegas, I think I should write a spinoff AU of it where they actually get a little bit too drunk at the casino where they meet and, instead of going back to Nico's hotel to hang out, they wind up getting married somewhere. Might store that idea in my back pocket for a day when I want to write hockey AU but not REALLY hockey AU.

i’m in a roll with luca and black cat-
anyway
black cat not knowing what to get luca’s parents, so she both gives them a few framed photos of the boys big moments, but also sketches one or two of them out on a canvas
and they’re so thankful, but don’t want yo make it awkward
and adam- because he beats luca to it- goes up to his parents while black cat goes to the restroom or soemthing an explains js how much it means fo ther to give them her drawings
and it makes luca all 🥹 for black cat and adam’s bond
i’ve come back from the dead (i’ve been gone for a day)
i was so tired last night i fell asleep on the couch and my dad had to bring me to my room like when i was 7
but i started a load of laundry so i could stay up and write (knowing something needs to be done before i sleep is the only way i can function i hate myself)
but yes!!!! she makes a series of these three moments from ushl to mich to draft day for their christmas present
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
but like the boys are isolated and the backgrounds are all white
the middle one she’d done for a project (nobody knows this and she will make sure it stays that way) where she had to paint something with like visible facial expressions
but she felt like that wasn’t enough so she made multiple
she showed them to luca before they left for the holidays and he nearly sobbed on the spot
like he hugged her and held her head and smooshed her hair around in excitement and told her how much he loved her
and the hug lasted so long

Tumblr media
you’d never woken up early on christmas mornings, you never really celebrated other than being happy to have the day off and exchanging a gift between you and your dad
you’d had trees and sometimes your dad would convince you to make cookies, but only when you were much younger
so it was definitely weird to be awake before daylight, greeted with a tree full of gifts and lucas mom handing you a plate of bacon, eggs and french toast.
your legs were laid over lucas, your head rested on his shoulder while you fought sleep, his hands gently running through your hair not helping your case.
while adam dragged himself into the room, tired and rubbing sleep from his eyes, luca tilted his head to the side to be level with you
you gave him a small grin and he tilted your head to peck your lips, moving back to his original position once adam dropped down beside him and caused a ripple in the cushions
“it’s too early for you two to be-“ adam gestured vaguely in your direction, grumbling to finish his sentence
his mom brought him coffee and his food, and then everyone started on gifts.
yours to lucas parents was buried at the back of the tree- since you felt a little embarrassed by it and wanted to put off letting them open it for as long as possible
when they finally got to it you gave a small smile and clutched onto luca, nerves kicking in full force
luca was giddy, all too excited for his parents to open up your present, so he squeezed your hand and kissed your forehead, trying to reassure you that everything would be okay
they opened it and right away, their mom looked up with a heartfelt smile while they’re dad was just staring
“you’re so talented, sweetheart. thank you,” she turned her attention back to the art and leaned on her husband, smiling.
when they both looked back up, their eyes were watering and yours went wide, looking up at luca who was beaming at his parents
adam sent you a reassuring look, so you looked back over to them.
“can i hug you?” his mom tilted her head, smiling softly while getting up from her seat.
you nodded slightly, feeling a little awkward and you untangled yourself from luca and wrapped your arms around her waist.
she squeezed you tight, cupping your face and pulling back to look at you
“thank you, y/n,” you smiled in return, nodding slightly and moving back to your seat, re attaching yourself to luca.
the five of you sat around the living room for a while after everything was out away, yourself mostly silent
eventually, you poked lucas arm and mumbled that you were going to get ready. he smiled and kissed you, mumbling an okay before taking his arm off from around you and watching you walk off
once you were gone, his mom spoke up
“she’s beautiful, luca. and she’s got the biggest heart,” all he could do was smile, his heart swelling in his chest at her praise of you
“she’s good, isn’t she?” adam beamed, nodding to the piece you’d painted that was safe on the side table until there was time to put it up
both of their parents nodded and adam continued
“she works hard, mama. she was nervous for you to see. think it’s cause she spent so long and wanted you to like it,” luca watched his brother, smile getting harder and harder to contain
“well, we love it,” she reassured, adam smiling
“she’s at michigan for art, so she would’ve had to take extra time on top of other pieces. and i know she prefers to draw, so i think you guys liking it was really important for her,” he finished, smiling to himself
he looked over at luca, who was just glowing with pride for you, and his cheeks flushed
“sorry,” he mumbled and luca shook his head
“she loves you, too, mo,”

The USNTDP is essentially a scholarship program that was created to close the gap between American and Canadian junior teams. Each year, a tryout is hosted for players in their first year of USHL eligibility (starts the year the players turn 16, so next year the U17s will all be born in 2008). Players are invited, and the best 22 players earn a scholarship to play for the NTDP. There are 2 NTDP teams (a U17 team and a U18 team). Once you make the team, you are a part of the program until you age out (graduate from high school) or you choose to leave, unlike other Junior teams in the US and Canada, where players can be cut no matter there age. Players move to Ann Arbor, Michigan and live with host families (or, if your a Hughes, your whole family moves to Michigan with you).
Both the U17s and U18s play in the USHL, but the U18s also play a lot of college teams. The NTDP represents the USA at the U17 and U18 level in international competition, and many of the players who play on the U20 team were NTDP players.
Since the NTDP are considered to be the best players in the country when they were 16, and they are given access to the best resources, (to close the gap to the Canadiens), they are often the best players in the USA in their draft class, which is why so many get drafted.
Since the USHL is a 16-20 year old league, NTDP players who aren’t ready for college right away (many are, as they play in the USHL vs 19 & 20 year olds at 16), they can enter the USHL Phase 2 draft and go play for another USHL team, or they can go play Canadian Juniors. They can also choose to play other professional hockey.
For Austen Matthews, he aged out of the NTDP, but was too young to get drafted to the NHL. He was also too talented to keep playing junior hockey, and he didn’t want to play in college, so that is why he went to play in Switzerland.
NTDP players are unique compared to other juniors players because the roster doesn’t change for 2 years, unlike every other junior team where there is massive turn around year to year and even in season. This extended time together, in a super pressurized environment (playing against people much older and losing a lot, especially as the most talented players in their age group who aren’t used to losing) means that many of the players are able to form incredibly tight bonds, to the point where many chose to commit to the same college and play together there (one reason why University of Michigan has so many former NTDP players). Anyways, that’s the primer!

Moth to a Flame | J.M.
Tumblr media
note: inspired by this song
summary: you and john have always been drawn to each other but now it may be too late for him to do something about it
warnings: angst with a fluff-ish ending (it may or may not rip your heart out @rowdyhughesy)
wc: 2.5k
Like a moth to a flame
I'll pull you in, I'll pull you back to what you need initially
It's just one call away
And you'll leave him, you're loyal to me
But this time I let you be
John sits in his computer chair, picking at the arm rest as his mom goes on about something that’s happening in his hometown of North Easton. His brother Paul keeps asking his mother questions, keeping the conversation going so John doesn’t have to, something Paul has done since they were kids.
The Marino family tries to have a video call at least once a week and it seems like their mom, Jen, feels the need to give the boys an update on every single person in their hometown. There’s only one person that John actually wants to hear about though, and he waits patiently for his mom to bring up their next door neighbors.
He can still remember the day that you and your family moved in next door to him. It was the summer before third grade. He was outside in the driveway with Paul, shooting pucks at a trash can when a big uhaul pulled into the driveway next door. Their mom had told them that a family bought the house next door and they had a kid the same age as them. They were hoping for another boy to play with.
They hadn’t expected you to climb out of that big truck and walk right over to them with your hand on your hip. They were both staring at you with mouths wide open as you flipped your hair over your shoulder and gazed at them both appraisingly. “Are you trying to play baseball with that thing?”
John had looked down at the hockey stick in his hand, wondering how you could confuse it for a baseball bat. Paul, the outgoing twin, was already speaking up. “You’ve never seen a hockey stick before?”
“Why would I ask if I knew what it was?” You were quick to sass Paul back and John found himself laughing at his twin's expression. No one had ever given it back to Paul like that.
From that day forward, John was in awe of you. That first summer, more often than not, the three of you playing outside each day ended with you and Paul in some sort of argument. You’d leave to go back to your own yard in a huff but you always made sure to say goodbye to John.
As the three of you grew up, you and John grew closer than you did with Paul. You confided in him about everything, he was your best friend. Both twins were protective of you as the three of you entered high school but anyone with eyes could see that there was something special between you and John. Both of your parents would even joke about your future wedding.
When John chose to join the USHL during senior year you cried and begged him to stay. You reminded him that he promised to take you to your senior prom. You knew it wasn’t fair, but you weren’t ready to let him go yet. He didn’t want to leave you or his brother, but he chose hockey. Paul ended up taking you to prom.
There wasn’t one big moment when John realized that he was in love with you. He just woke up one day and realized that he always had been. Watching you live your life through social media instead of being with you in person hurt him more than he thought possible. He often wondered who you were confiding in while he was gone.
You texted each other every day, but he could feel you slipping away from him. You attended Boston College while he and Paul went to Harvard. With his hockey schedule, he couldn’t give you the attention he wanted to or that you deserved, so he never said anything about his feelings.
“...and I was talking with Michelle the other day…” John snaps out of his thoughts and lifts his head up at the mention of your mom’s name. “She told me…oh I shouldn’t tell you.” Jen purses her lips in a laugh and John leans forward, knowing his mom is keeping something big a secret.
“Now you have to tell us, Mom.” Paul laughs. “Can’t just leave us hanging like that.” John nods in agreement and their mother laughs.
“Okay, but you can’t say anything to y/n!” John’s stomach does a little flip at the mention of your name. “Promise me!” Jen looks at her two boys through the computer screen expectantly.
“I don’t even remember the last time I talked to y/n, ma. It’s been a couple weeks at least.” Paul says.
John swallows a lump in his throat. “I promise.” He had talked to you just last night on the phone. If you had news why wouldn’t you tell him? Why did he have to hear it from his mom?
“Well, Michelle told me…” John realizes too late that he probably doesn’t want to hear whatever his mom is about to say. “Ethan stopped over the other day and talked with her and Greg. He asked for their permission to marry y/n!”
John’s blood turns to ice. Ethan. The guy you started dating your senior year of college after John had gone to the NHL. John’s only met him a handful of times and he seems like an okay guy, but marriage? Were you actually going to marry this guy?
“Isn’t that exciting?” Jen prompts when neither boy speaks.
“Uh, yeah. Great.” Paul is rarely at a loss for words. He glances at his younger brother nervously. John’s never mentioned his feelings for you to anyone but of course his twin knows. “Do you think she’ll say yes?”
“I uh, I have to go.” John says quickly before his mom can answer. He looks around his desk, trying to come up with an excuse and spots his empty container from dinner. “The boys and I are going to dinner.” Paul sees right through him but his mother wishes him well and says goodbye.
'Cause he seems like he's good for you
And he makes you feel like you should
And all your friends say he's the one
His love for you is true
John can’t help himself and immediately pulls up your instagram, checking to make sure there is no engagement announcement. The last post on your page is a picture of you, him, and Paul at Christmas. The three of you are wearing matching Christmas pajamas and you’re standing between the twins holding up the elf dvd you insist on watching every year. Your caption reads ‘my favorite time of year with my favorite people’.
The picture before that is a picture of you with your parents sitting at a Devil’s game. You’re wearing John’s jersey and holding a sign that says ‘#6 my favorite baseball player’. He has to scroll a little bit to find a picture you posted of you and Ethan.
It’s a simple birthday post from last summer, you’re both on a boat. He has an arm around you, smiling at the camera. You’re pressed to his side but the smile on your face doesn’t quite meet your eyes.
To further torture himself, John clicks on your tagged photos. While you barely post to your instagram account, Ethan and your friends use it regularly. All Ethan posts are pictures of the two of you, some of them are just pictures of you with long captions that read like a love letter to you.
Your friends have also tagged you and Ethan in pictures. He finds one from Halloween. The two of you are dressed up in what is supposed to be a couple's costumes but he's dressed as Mario and you’re dressed as Princess Daisy. It makes John laugh, thinking of all the times you beat him in Mario Kart as Daisy. He always picked Luigi.
He puts his phone away before he does something stupid like call you. The two of you talk every day in some form or another but since you ended your late night phone call last night, he hasn’t heard from you at all. Even his good morning text went unreplied this morning.
Deep down he knew that Ethan had to be a good guy for you to stay with him for three years. He heard from his mom and friends from back home about how well he treated you and how in love with you he was.
What’s funny is that no one in the last three years had ever mentioned to him how happy you were. If you were in love with Ethan or not. Any time you came to visit John or watch one of his games, you were always with your family or the Marino family. You never brought Ethan.
Were you going to say yes?
But does he know you call me when he sleeps?
But does he know the pictures that you keep?
But does he know the reasons that you cry?
Or tell me, does he know where your heart lies?
John stayed up longer than he should’ve, hoping you’d call. He never went an entire day without talking to you, even if it was just a quick hello. It was getting close to eleven when he finally started making his way to his bedroom. He had practice in the morning and he could already tell that he was going to be tired.
He brushed his teeth and then peeled his shirt off. He plugged his phone into the charger and was just about to take his pants off when there was a knock at the door. “Who the hell?” He muttered as he walked toward his apartment door. Mikey and Nate both lived nearby so he assumed it was one of them stopping in although the late hour made no sense.
When he opened the door, all the breath was knocked out of him. The last person he expected to find standing in his doorway at eleven pm on a Thursday night was you. He could tell you had been crying. Your eyes were puffy and you had red splotches all over your face. The black dress you were wearing was fancy and your bare feet told him that you did at one point have heels on. If he didn’t know any better he’d say you were on the run.
“Y/n? What are you doing here?” He asks once he finally finds his voice.
You try to smile at him but end up sniffling. “Hey, Johnny. Can I uh, can I come in?”
“Of course.” He steps aside and lets you in, closing the door firmly behind you.
You don’t walk very far into the living room, twirling a piece of hair around your finger nervously. “Did I wake you up? I’m so sorry I should’ve called.” You mumble as you take in his half-dressed appearance.
“No, I was awake.” He can sense your nervousness. “Did you drive all the way here?” It’s about five hours from North Easton to Hoboken with traffic.
“Yes, I, uh…” You try to laugh but it comes out as more of a sob. “I just got in the car. I didn’t know where I was going at first but then I just sort of ended up here…” You trail off as you look at him, gauging his reaction.
John keeps some distance between the two of you, keeping his hands in fists at his sides so he doesn’t reach for you. “Did something happen? Are you okay?”
Seeing him so full of concern for you gives you the confidence you need to get your next question out. “Are you and I always just going to be friends?”
The question weighs heavily on John who opens and closes his mouth a few times before settling on: “What?”
“Ethan proposed to me tonight.” Anger and jealousy hit John at once and your words feel like a physical blow as he realizes the girl of his dreams is going to marry someone else. “He took me to a fancy dinner and ordered a big bottle of wine for the table-”
“Y/n, I don’t want to hear this.” John admits as he backs away from you. Every word you speak is another knife getting stabbed into his heart. “I can’t.” He’s always been a shoulder for you to cry on, but this is too much.
“Johnny.” Your voice is soft and he jumps a little when you place your cold hand on his bare forearm. “He got down on one knee and gave me a long speech about how much he loved me and then asked me to marry him. Do you want to know what I said?”
There’s tears in his eyes as he forces himself to look at you. Unshed tears are shining in your eyes as well. He’s hoping with everything in him that you said no.
“I said your name.” You shake your head with a laugh. “This wonderful man got down on one knee for me and the only thing I could think of is the boy I've loved since I was eight years old.”
John stares at you in shock, unsure if he heard you correctly as you start to cry. “Do you want to know the worst part? He forgave me! He still wanted me after I said your name. And what did I do? I ran out of the restaurant. I got in my car and I drove to you.”
He pulls you into his arms, holding you tightly as you sob into his bare chest. Your words replay over and over in his head as he rubs your back. The only thing I could think of is the boy I've loved since I was eight years old. You’ve been holding on to the same feelings that he had all these years? He realizes that you had five hours in the car to yourself. You could’ve turned around at any point and gone back to Ethan. You chose to come to him instead.
“Everything’s going to be alright.” His voice is quiet as he tries to calm you down but you still hear him.
You take a deep breath and pull away from his chest so you can look at him. “There’s something here, isn’t there?”
John brings his hand up to wipe a tear off your cheek with his thumb. “I think I've been in love with you since that first day when you talked back to Paul.”
You laugh as you remember the first time you met the twins. “You were always so quiet. I didn’t think you liked me at first until I realized you were like that all the time.” John pulls you into him again, resting his chin on your head as you nuzzle into his chest. “I made a mess of things didn’t I?” You mumble.
“As long as we’re together, we can figure the rest out.” He assures you.

Andrei Svechnikov: A Primer
written October 5th, 2023
BASICS:
Born 26 March 2000 in Barnaul, Russia
Right winger on the Carolina Hurricanes (who drafted him 2nd overall in 2018)
6’2 and 195 lbs
Andrei’s first and foremost a family oriented person. One of the most important people in his life is his brother, Evgeny. He followed Evgeny everywhere, including to Michigan in 2016, where in juniors he played for the USHL’s Muskegon Lumberjacks; near Grand Rapids where Evgeny was playing for the Red Wings AHL affiliate. Svechnikov led the team in scoring and was named to the All-USHL Team and declared USHL Rookie of the Year. He then was selected first overall by the OHL’s Barrie Colts and later won the Emms Family Award as rookie of the year. After being selected 2nd overall by Carolina, he chose the number 37, the same as his brother.
On their childhood:
“We didn’t have much money,” Evgeny said of their childhood in Siberian Russia. “We ate from the same plate. We did everything together.” “I’ve waited for this my whole life,” Andrei said, sweat still dripping. “It’s my dream. My dream came true.” “It’s huge,” Evgeny said of both the goal and their relationship. “It’s everything.” “They moved from job to job every city,” Evgeny said. “They sacrificed so much for us.” If you ask Evgeny, there was “no doubt” Andrei would make it from the time he started dominating older competition at 5 years old. Evgeny was 8 when he fostered that opinion. Clearly he was on to something. (X)
The brothers have a special handshake and Evgeny wears a bracelet Andrei gave him everyday.
In the NHL:
Andrei made NHL history being the first player to ever score a lacrosse style goal. Seen here.
And is the only player (so far) to do two successfully.
But he can do tricks off the ice too. His first few years on the Hurricanes, he enjoyed learning magic tricks. Here's one with former beat reporter Sara Civian.
Andrei is loved by many, if not most, current and former teammates, coaches, media, and more.
Praise from others:
“I’m just proud of the kid in general,” Brind’Amour said after his first win as coach and Svechnikov’s first point. “He’s a great kid. He wants to learn and he’s got a lot to learn, but he’s going to be a great player in this league. You gotta remember how young he is, and that’s something I have to keep reminding myself. He’s just a kid, and he’s out there in the NHL and he doesn’t look out of place. We’re very fortunate to have him.”
(X)
Former Muskegon Lumberjacks GM John Vanbiesbrouck once told me he didn’t want to drop a bomb too soon, but yeah, he could see hints of Gordie Howe in a young Svechnikov. Vanbiesbrouck was more comfortable with a comparison to Todd Bertuzzi. “You know what? He’s hard to compare to anyone because there’s not a lot of guys like him,” he said after Svechnikov’s NHL debut. “Because sometimes he drives the net or sometimes he’ll see a play. He’s so multi-talented. When he drives the net — Todd Bertuzzi, one of the best net-drivers I’ve ever seen. He’s got an acute way to make plays and find lanes and shoot in place. There’s not a lot of guys like him in that way and how he can play a speed game, then a slowed-down game.”
(X)
“We were just hoping, when we got the pick, that we would get someone who was a star,” Carolina owner Tom Dundon says. “And I think we did.”
(X)
He is a gem. Always has time for everyone. Can’t wait to see him back in action next season for the canes - Justin Williams
(X)
Here's a snippet of a very heart felt interview the Svechnikov brothers gave before their first match up.
What’s his best quality as a person? Evgeny: Humble. Humble, shyness, respectful. There’s not just one word. But one thing (that) comes in my head, humble and respect(ful), of anything: parents, people around, polite. Just a good kid, man. He’s just a good kid. Andrei: I feel like he’s just a kind person — he’s always going to care about you, he’s always going to ask you if something’s wrong. He’s a culture guy. But obviously he gets a little emotional sometimes (laughter) … He’s gotta work on that a little bit, probably. When have you been the proudest of him? Evgeny: Just one thing? … That he doesn’t let himself get down, and anything happens, nothing stops him. But I think he learned that from me (laughs). And yeah, he doesn’t give up and he keeps going. Nothing bothers him, and he’s like a tractor, just keeps going, and I’m telling you, he learned that from me. Andrei: Every day, to be honest. Every day I am proud of him, to be completely honest. He’s been through a lot, there have been a lot of hard things. He was injured, now he’s here in the show. It’s going to be fun to play against him. I’m proud of him every day. Anything else you want to add about him? Evgeny: That I love him so much. He’s a great brother. Andrei: I don’t know, really — did he say anything interesting? The Athletic: He said he loves you so much and that you’re a great brother. Andrei: I love him so much, too. He is my hero.
Read the rest here.
A big mama's boy. (1)(2)
Friends on the team:
When he first joined the Hurricanes, Andrei became good friends with Dougie Hamilton and Warren Foegele. They all lived in the same building and new to the team. The Hurricanes even made a video of them hanging out and talking about their friendship called the “Three Amigos.”
Even after both Dougie and Warren were traded to other teams, he remains good friends with them. (X)
**Fun fact: Both Dougie and Warren had to pick new numbers with their new teams. Dougie, formerly #19, picked 7, (at the time, Pavel Zacha already took #37) and Warren, formerly #13,  picked 37.
Andrei has always been good friends with alternate captain, Jordan Martinook. Taken under Marty’s wing from the start in 2018 when they both joined the team, Jordan has a pre-game tunnel tradition to scream Andrei’s last name to hype them up. Martinook will occasionally add in other players but he always exaggerates ‘Mista Svechnikov’ the most. Like another older brother figure, Martinook enjoys messing with Andrei in practice and in general.
After Dougie and Warren were traded, Andrei became closer with Martin Necas. Always good friends, they started going out to eat together more and attended the US Open Men’s Final in 2023.
With Seth Jarvis joining the team, Andrei gained the opportunity to be the "big brother" for once. Pulling pranks and messing around with Jarvy.
Another player who’s allowed Andrei the opportunity to grow as a leader on the team is Pyotr Kochetkov, fellow Russian and a goalie. The two have become good friends, Andrei acting as a guide and translator.
Andrei loves Carolina, and Carolina loves Andrei. One of the many reasons he agreed to an eight-year, $62 million contract with the Hurricanes in 2021.
Andrei has always loved animals. He’s good with both cats and dogs, looking forward to the annual calendar photoshoot, and adopting one of his own in 2023.
Andrei has never met a penalty box he didn’t like.
(1)(2)(3)(4)(5)
“I just love that style. Just hit hard, you know?,” Svechnikov said. “I think I’m playing a hard game, and that’s why I think I’m scoring goals. I’m gonna hit, then I’m gonna go to the offensive zone and someone’s going to give it to me and then I try and shoot it into the net. Good tries for me. I love that style of play.” (X)
He made the 2023 All Star Game, winning the Fastest Skater competition. The first person he called after was his brother.
He suffered a tear in his left ACL a couple months later, and missed the rest of the season and playoffs. However, he had fun sounding the siren and joining his good friends in the broadcast booth. He had a successful surgery and is recovering well, hoping to start the 2023-2024 season on the right foot.

July 28, 2021
Carter sat down at one of the empty tables, she had come out to a Team Canada event and a lot of the newer players for the team would be joining for the first time. She’s been to many events for Team Canada at this point and she is use to being here with Connor but sadly he couldn’t make it this time.
Carter had just been scrolling onto her phone when she heard a quiet throat being cleared next to her and she saw a younger kid who looks at least a few years younger than her and she could tell he was newer and seems quite shy and nervous.
“Hi.” Carter gave the boy a soft smile.
“Hello, I’m Macklin.” Macklin Celebrini shyly smiled at her.
Carter gestured for him to sit down, “I’m Carter.” She stuck her hand out for him.
“I know!’ Macklin smiled and shook her hand back, “I mean, you’re just so awesome so of course i know who you are!” Macklin sheepishly smiled rubbing the back of his neck nervously.
“Thank you.” Carter gave him a kind smile, “Where are you playing next season?” Carter turned completely to him giving him her full attention.
“Chicago Steel.” Macklin smiled answering excited to start playing there.
“Ahh in the USHL.” Carter quickly realized as all three of her brothers were in that league.
“Yeah.” Macklin answered relaxing as he talked with Carter as he quite nervous to come to this event especially as this was his first event for Team Canada.
“Do you have siblings Macklin?” Carter gently asked, she realized he had to be around fifteen and she knew he was new and could tell he was nervous.
Carter smiled as she watched his face light and he started talking about his siblings.
Anyone at the event by the end of the night could tell Carter had took Macklin under her wing and could tell the two would only become closer.
