Eggtober 13 Çilbir (Turkish Poached Eggs with Garlic Yogurt) Clip Studio Paint, Gouache Brush and Airbrush (for the paprika and chili flakes), 12 colors, 1 hour and 20 minutes. So when I was looking for egg references for my poached egg pieces, I stumbled across an absolutely dazzling dish that looked delectable. I’d never heard of it before. Now I really want to try it. Recipe (and the reference I loosely based this on) is linked in the title. Poached eggs, yogurt, paprika butter, dill, chili flakes, garlic... what’s not to like? (Catch me modifying the recipe though and just replacing the paprika with cayenne because I like it SPICY. Yes, I know there are spicy and smokey paprikas but shush. Cayenne is cheaper.) But yeah, I saw those dazzling eggs swimming in a buttery sauce on a plate of yogurt and just... had to draw it. I knew it was my destiny. You cannot put dill and yogurt on a plate with some eggs and some spicy sauce and not have me drooling. Took longer than usual because getting the translucency to carry through on that sauce WITHOUT just doing an adjustment layer and lowering the opacity was a challenge. A lot of the colors I used were for really subtle things and you can BARELY see the purple I used at the base of all that yogurt to build up the colors. Also, I think I’ve finally done one piece with every color of the rainbow as a background (The ROYGBIV Rainbow, that is.) The closest thing I had to yellow was a sort of beige-y color that I used as a background for my omelet. But now I have one that’s actually yellow. I think this was a perfect piece for it too. Contrast with the blue and purple in the yogurt shading and the bright reds in the paprika butter. Just the tiniest peek at the orange of the yolks ready to burst forth through those eggs. Big thanks as ever to @quezify who organized the best Inktober ever! Eggtober is the superior Inktober, fight me.

When I was a kid I hated eggs. I thought they were bland and nasty and wondered why you'd torture yourself eating them daily. As I got older I was like "okay... eggs are really good for you. You gotta grow tf up and learn to eat your eggs."
I started watching videos on egg dishes and how to cook the best eggs. I hated them still. But I kept trying different things with them. Adding all kinds of seasoning from syrup to all the spices in the pantry. Eventually I found out my mom has no idea how to hard boil an egg and I go feral over soft boiled eggs
This lead to me developing a theory: no one actually hates eggs. You just gotta find the egg dish for you.
As a new egg lover I wanted to ask, what's y'all's favorite egg dishes??
omg this is a good ask -- i used to hate eggs & kohi loves them so much!! she actually is what kind of turned me to start liking them because she has so many fun ways of making eggs and yessss, soft boiled is so good
i think some general faves of ours: -- they're all super seasoned and have all kinds of diff flavors!
menemen: think tomatos, egg, & cheese (& peppers if you like them!) and it's amazing served on toast!
cilbir (turkish eggs): normally these are poached eggs on a really nice yogurt sauce with hot chili / garlic sauce but we normally just do them fried / sunny side up since it's easier! also something to have with toast
yum kai dao (crispy thai egg salad): game changer ok -- super crispy fried eggs but with such a fresh combo of onions, cilantro, chilies, etc.
ajitama eggs (ramen eggs): if you like boiled eggs! these are basically marinated overnight in a soy sauce base & suuuuuper yummy.
OH AND SPANISH TORTILLA OFC!!

Çılbır: a Turkish dish consisting of a poached egg, drizzled with sizzling spiced butter, served atop garlicky yogurt (with flatbread to sop it all up). Simple but decadent!

Get to know the blogger
Tagged by the lovely @ichooseviolence 😍 Thanks for including me, I love tag games!
Share your wallpaper: both my phone and desktop wallpapers are depictions of Jaime charging at Daenerys & Drogon with a spear.
Last song you listened to: Hot In It - Charlie XCX & Tiesto
Last Show: last show I watched is Shadow & Bone, my boyfriend and I are trying to finish it.
Craving: so this week I've been obsessed with these little baby croissants / pastry rolls filled with Turkish delight from my local bakery, which I've been eating with milk.
What you are wearing right now: This has been a pajama day for me. So an oversized, old-lady nightgown in a peach background with an orange roses pattern because I love the granny aesthetic, with striped peach trousers underneath and reindeer socks (they're too cute to wear just for Christmas).
How tall are you: 170 cm.
Piercings: my ears
Tattoos: none
Glasses or contacts: I was blessed with 20/20 vision. Still going strong.
Last drink: a shot of Bärenjäger honey liqueur <3
Last thing you ate: a kind of shakshuka we made for breakfast with tomato sauce, some ravioli and poached eggs, with grated cheddar on top. I'm about to eat some really tasty pulled pork and fries now.
Favorite color: well, it has to be pink, innit. Gotta keep up with the Barbie lifestyle.
Current obsession: Gosh, I can't escape the ASOIAF brainrot.
Favorite fictional character: Cersei Lannister, Jaime Lannister, Sansa Stark
The last place you traveled: I went to a dinosaur theme park last summer as part of my holidays!
Gently tagging (no pressure): @moroslavklose @duxbelisarius @navree @scalyfreaks @ladybug023 @stargazing-sapphire @starstrucksnowing @slayhousehightower @chaoticcoffeequeen

Reinventing #SIMIT with poached eggs and tomato sauce. . Simit is a circular bread, typically encrusted with sesame seeds or, less commonly, poppy, flax or sunflower seeds, found across the cuisines of the former Ottoman Empire, and the Middle East. Simit's size, crunch, chewiness, and other characteristics vary slightly by region. It is widely known as Turkish bagel in the United States. https://www.instagram.com/p/CmzVnPeo7Oj/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I’ve been on a cooking kick the past 48 hours
A cranberry orange loaf
Tumblr media
Made with this addition from the comments:
Tumblr media
I left out the walnuts. I also rinsed dried cranberries thoroughly and left them to soak for about an hour (you want to see them start to float). For oranges I used a navel orange because I felt the flavor would be brighter. I also grated a whole allspice because I’ve really been enjoying that flavor lately. The bread came out excellently and I’ve been enjoying it a lot.
Çılbır
Tumblr media
A Turkish breakfast dish that works equally well as a nice late dinner in my opinion. It seems to also be quite popular in the Balkans as well. I based my çılbır off of a restaurant’s down the street from me. This was also my first poached egg in my entire life and it came out perfectly despite the yolk breaking when I cracked it.
2% Fage yoghurt (it is essentially already drained, just pour out any liquid that appears from time spent in the fridge from the container) mixed with fresh dill and fresh mint. Make a nest for the poached egg after it dries a bit and put it onto the yoghurt. The butter sauce I made with salted butter, dried garlic, and smoked paprika. I found an aluminum camping cup in the cupboard and it’s excellent for holding over a gas range without the handle getting hot, so I made the sauce in that to save a pan. Drizzle this over the whole. Toast on the side.
Tomato and cheddar toastie
No picture because I ate it too quickly! I basically only had one end slice of bread left in the bag so I buttered a pan, rubbed both sides in the butter, decorated the face with halved tomato slices, sea salt and cracked pepper’d the tomatoes, then placed two slices of cheddar cheese on top. Put a lid on the pan so the cheese will melt. Once it begins to melt (but before it touches the pan), removed and plop it on a plate. The bottom is toasty enough to easily eat it with a knife and fork.
