The second largest city of the US, Los Angeles has its own unmatched magnetism. In my growing up years, I recall Los Angeles as the venue of the Olympics. And then subsequently over the years, this most prominent metropolis in California, as the glamorous hub of Hollywood. Beverly hills where stars own palatial houses. And of course Disneyland ! If you’re a Disney fan, and are traveling with your family surely you couldn’t possibly return without a trip to Disneyland in Anaheim.
Best Los Angeles Getaway With Family
As LA is huge, with Anaheim being a city in itself, plan your itinerary in such a way that you first visit the parks. There are two Disney parks near Los Angeles in Anaheim, 26 miles away. It is highly recommended, to first spend 2-3 days here. Stay in one of the hotels just walking distance from the parks and then move to main LA for the remaining part of your trip.
HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES
Staying in a centrally located hotel in West Beverly Hills, Hollywood, at the doorstep of the Walk of Fame boulevard has its advantages. Just as you step out, you’ll find yourself on the legendary Walk of Fame boulevard, having the longest list of stars, celebrities and performers.
It’s a pleasure to stroll here. The views of the tree lined street, the blue skies above and brightly colored buildings is picture perfect in the day and transforms into a wonderland in the night when the fluorescent lights are lit.
It was Halloween during that time, and if you too happen to visitng in this month, then look forward to being fully entertained by all sorts of the weirdest and scariest dressed passerby’s.
There are a plethora of museums on the boulevard that can be visited depending upon your interest and time. These include the Guinness World record museum, World of Illusions and the Hollywood Wax museum to name a few, that are great for families. Also plenty of cultural activities happen – live theatre, art galleries, film complexes and music concerts.
BEVERLY HILLS
Beverly Hills has been the setting of innumerable films, and to be actually present there was like a dream come true. And above all, the most magical moment was to watch the shooting of a movie starring Brad Pitt on the streets of West Hollywood. This sort of completed our trip and was the ultimate experience.
If you’re a tourist visiting Los Angeles for the first time, it’s worthwhile to take a chartered tour to the famous Beverly Hills. There are multiple types of private trips with a live commentary at hand including half day, full day or few hours. The three hour tour included Beverly Hills, residence of celebrities and film stars, and finishes off at Rodeo drive . This is actually quite sufficient, as you can do it at your own pace rather than a hurried, longer trip, in which a lot is squeezed in.
One advice here, before the tour begins make sure to eat something and be refreshed as there are no stoppages in between, specially if you have younger children accompanying you.

The tour halts at vantage points from where the iconic Hollywood sign is visible on the hill-side. Sunset Point and Bronson Avenue give a clear view, and are ideal spots for photos.
You’ve seen them in movies, now see where your favorite stars live, hang around for a while, listening to interesting stories narrated by your guide, gazing at their posh, sprawling homes/ mansions !!
Afterward, the tour continues onto the upmarket Rodeo drive, with its high class stores of luxury brands. Here again there are no halts and is the final destination, where you are dropped off.
Griffith Observatory – There is more to the Griffith Observatory than the exteriors and stunning views of the city from its elevated position. A planetarium inside and a number of ticketed shows too draw tourists.
FAMOUS BEACHES
Santa Monica beach – the pier at Santa Monica is worth visiting. It’s a picturesque point on the Pacific Ocean, having loads of activities, a children’s park, or street performers vying for attention and tips.
The other prominent beach of LA is Venice, spectator sports like basketball, baseball, football, soccer etc are played in abundance on these beaches.
The `city of angels’, looks spectacular after dark when it’s lit up and truly comes alive. The best way to enjoy that is to drive through the streets around the Hollywood area, where traffic congestions are less. Admire the high-rises or the wonderful houses in the residential neighborhood!
If you wish to have more adventure and unlimited fun, then there is Universal Studios, Hollywood. Apart from the plethora of thrilling rides and sci-fi shows, of particular interest here are the movie shooting sites, and complete tours of how special effects are created in films.
Though Los Angeles is fringed by the Pacific Ocean, and has nice beaches, the weather is not typical beach type. It can be classified as a Mediterranean climate – characterized by dry summers and wet winters. My own experience of the weather in October – sunny and warm during the day and evenings becoming mildly cold as temperatures go down. Going by the diverse activities offered here, travelers can pack accordingly.

Later this year, Congress is set to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which opens up the opportunity to modernize and reform the nation’s airports and airlines. While Congress has passed a flurry of unexpected aviation policies in the past few years—including a $25 billion airline bailout and $25 billion in new airport capital spending—FAA reauthorization is the primary legislative process to address long-standing industry issues such as airspace navigation, tax structures, and passenger fees. This year, federal lawmakers should add one more issue to their list: protecting our airports and their passengers from short- and long-term climate threats.
Airports play a central role in our national economy, from expanding our information and tourism industries to connecting people to their loved ones. The problem is that the country’s airports are under threat from a changing climate, including rising sea levels, extreme heat, and other weather-related events. Compounding this problem is the lack of any major policy response, including a lack of federal programs dedicated to building resilience at the country’s commercial service airports. Federal and local leaders must do more to protect these national economic assets.
Lawmakers should use the upcoming FAA reauthorization as an opportunity to align our economic security with our environmental security. First, Congress should incentivize airport authorities to develop resilience plans that will guide how their facilities adapt to emerging climate realities. Second, Congress should launch a pilot program to strengthen existing assets and build resilient infrastructure at a small number of major commercial airports. If adopted, these two programs could start the country on a course to a more dependable and safer aviation system for generations to come.
An outsized share of passengers relies on a relatively small number of airports
America’s commercial aviation system is an essential driver of national economic competitiveness. Even with the emergence of video conferencing and other digital network technologies, businesses still demand face-to-face meetings among clients and colleagues. Moreover, aviation is the lifeblood of the nation’s tourism hubs, as households plan their holidays and leisure trips around flight availability. And demand is robust: After hitting rock bottom during the COVID-19 pandemic, passenger levels are already now close to their 2019 heights.
While commercial aviation benefits every corner of the country, some airports are simply more important than others. Since airline deregulation in 1978, America has increasingly relied on a hub-and-spoke system to move commercial airline passengers across the country and the world. The result is that the country’s 30 busiest airports moved 71% of all passengers in 2019, many of whom only used the airports to transfer to their final destination. In other words, the entire country relies on a relatively small number of airports.
This becomes especially clear when these airports can’t operate at their full capacity. In 2022, major summer and winter holiday storms caused sweeping waves of flight cancellations and stranded travelers. When airports like Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson, Chicago O’Hare, or Phoenix Sky Harbor can’t operate at full strength, the impacts spread like a virus, touching passengers in every corner of the country.
Commercial airports must adapt to new climate realities
America’s commercial airports are essential to a modern economy, but they also are under threat from a changing climate. To keep planes flying on time and to keep everyone safe, airports need their runways to be clear, their skies to be navigable, and their facilities and other equipment to be resilient to the elements, including protections for workers. Yet the past few years have proven that airports can no longer count on all three elements.
One of the biggest concerns relates to geography: Many airports are located alongside bodies of water, yet as sea levels continue to rise and extreme storms increase in frequency, these airports could soon be dealing with chronic flooding. While scenarios vary locally, the contiguous United States is projected to face between 1.03 and 1.71 feet of sea level rise by 2050. Using data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Sea Level Rise Viewer, we analyzed the potential flooding impacts of up to 2 feet of sea level rise on 145 large, medium, and small hub airports.
The results are deeply concerning. With just 1 foot of sea level rise, four airports will face significant flooding on over 10% of their land. With 2 feet, the count rises to seven airports. Even with just 1 foot of sea level rise, some, such as New York’s LaGuardia Airport and Philadelphia International Airport, will face frequent flooding in low-lying areas, impacting 21% and 13% of their land, respectively. In total, 24 airports will experience some level of flooding with 1 foot of sea level rise; these airports carried 26% of all passengers in 2019.
Beyond flooded airport grounds, flooded runways would have significant impacts on airport operations and safety. Eleven airports—carrying 15% of all 2019 passengers—will experience runway flooding with 1 foot of sea level rise. And other, less visible factors can increase the vulnerability of certain airports to sea level rise. For example, many airports are built on “reclaimed” land—artificial land created by fill material. When combined with rising sea levels and earthquakes, some reclaimed land is vulnerable to “liquefaction” or instability. These airports must develop adaptive strategies that address not just visible flooding but compounding risks as well.
We can see this scenario playing out on two different sides of the country. If sea levels rise by 1 foot by 2050—a conservative scenario—then the runways at San Francisco International Airport and low-lying areas of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in southeastern Florida would see constant flooding. The latter may look safer by comparison, but the shifting baseline of chronic flooding conditions has negative implications for the airport’s ability to weather more severe flooding associated with acute events.
A more immediate threat are extreme weather events. The rising frequency and intensity of superstorms threaten airports in regions more prone to hurricanes, including most of the major coastal airports from Houston to Miami, and up to at least Charleston, S.C. But it’s the more chronic challenges such as high heat days, major rain events, or high winds that can impact almost any airport, inland or coastal. Last summer’s cancellation of flights at London’s Heathrow Airport due to heat-related runway damage serves as a global warning. With extreme weather events growing in frequency, all signs point toward greater threats ahead.
Kick-starting a federal approach to airport resilience
While the environmental threats to commercial airports have risen for decades, the federal government still does not compel airport authorities to harden their assets. There is no requirement that airport authorities draft resilience plans focused on adaptation, which limits their understanding of both individual climate risks and the potential costs to address those risks. The FAA’s Aviation Climate Action Plan recognizes this planning gap: “FAA is considering reinitiating [the Airport Sustainability Planning] program with an emphasis on resilience planning to address climate and extreme weather risks to airports in relation to sustainability.”
Likewise, there is no significant FAA capital program exclusively dedicated to investing in resilient airport infrastructure. Instead, the federal government relies on disaster recovery efforts—if anything at all—after impacts occur. To promote interstate commerce, it’s in the federal government’s best interest to address this policy gap.
The federal policy gap is matched by a general research gap. As Fiona Greer, Jasenka Rakas, and Arpad Horvath note in their analysis of 108 peer-reviewed journal articles, “The resilience of airports to climate change impacts is a significantly under-researched subject.” A lack of recent and overall publications by the National Academies’ aviation research division, the Airport Cooperative Research Program, affirms this finding. This research gap has practical implications too: We simply know too little about the range of needs and costs in the airport adaptation space.
Fortunately, airport authorities and their federal partners have time to devise long-term strategies. We recommend two courses of action, both of which can inform more permanent solutions in the future.
First, Congress should incentivize airport authorities to develop climate resilience plans that will guide how their facilities can adapt to emerging environmental conditions. Much like the resilience-focused planning requirements within the PROTECT and WaterSMART programs (or ongoing adaptation planning underway at the Department of Defense), this new planning program would help airports formally understand their climate threats, possible interventions, and the costs to implement them. The FAA can develop standard guidelines, and the program should be large enough to fund plans at multiple large, medium, and small hub airports. The guidelines should include a standard reporting feature that can inform an FAA database of typical project needs and costs. In the long term, lessons from the initial planning effort can inform a more permanent planning requirement and grant program for all airports who receive FAA Airport Improvement Program awards in the future.
Second, Congress should launch a pilot program at the FAA to build resilient infrastructure at a small number of major commercial airports. With little resilience-focused construction underway at commercial airports, the FAA needs to experiment with different approaches to protecting these national economic assets. We recommend focusing on a mix of climate threats, such as flooding events at one airport and extreme heat at another, and their related interventions. Airports should be selected based on demonstrated climate need and preparedness to invest, including local fiscal resources. In designing the program, legislators and FAA staff can reference the Airport Environmental Mitigation Pilot Program. While many necessary adaptive interventions are likely to be costly (see San Francisco International Airport’s $590 million Shoreline Protection Program), early investment is our best chance to prevent even more expensive service disruptions and disaster recovery efforts in the future. In the long term, Congress and the FAA can use the lessons from the pilot to determine the best size for a more permanent program and the federal aviation taxes that could be secured to fund it.
Combined, these two pilot programs represent a careful first step to hardening the country’s airports. They promise to expand on some of the environmental research efforts already underway across the federal government, such as within the FAA’s Airport Technology Research and Development branch and the Volpe Center. They also promise to create referenceable use cases for other airport authorities looking to protect their assets.
There is a permanent tension between the need for Americans to fly and the threat our airports face from a changing climate. Federal airport resilience programs are critical for keeping the country safe and on the move for decades to come.

FONTAINE, THE THEATRICAL NATION OF JUSTICE
The Nation of Hydro comprises of islands within a vast and lushous ocean teeming with beautiful life. The main means of transportation between these regions is the aquabus service, which runs along bridges constructed high above the water's surface, each vessel with a Melusine tour guide. The poplulation primarily resides in the city or harbour, which possesses a steampunk aesthetic, gadgetry wherever you look blending in with the Nation's love for creativity.
Much of Fontaine's land beyond is untouched greenery; meadows wherein vibrant flowers bloom, the majestic scenery for the occasional cottage. Though do be careful, there are dangerous spots within Beryl Region especially, and across the wilderness can Hilichurls, Mekas in accompaniment of Treasure Hoarders and hostile wildlife such as Armoured Crabs be found. If you feel like travelling, the shorelines offer magnificent views, and you can even find Blubberbeasts living their best lives. Aren't they cute?!
COURT OF FONTAINE
The core of Fontaine, its capital. An elegant hub of artistry and culture. In its centre stands the aquabus station, which connects the city to Romaritime Harbor and Belleau Region. Within its eccentricity belies genius, some seeking theatre for their dreams, others singing, and more written work — the streets are populated by talent and establishments offering eclectic foods to satisfy all manner of hunger. But above and all does order maintain. Patrolling the streets are various branches of the security force, comprised of humans, Melusine and Gardemeks. Sitting above the city is the Palais Memonia, from which Iudex Neuvillette, and the highest authorities manage the politics of the nation.
OPERA ECIPLESE
Fontaine's grandest stage — this is where trials are conducted, overseen by the Hydro Archon, Furina, the Iudex and the ultimate judge — the Oratrice Mecanique D'Analyse Cardinal. Audiences are subject to a show that blurs the line between rehearsed drama and real world judgment of wrongdoing. The venue itself does host solely performative productions, including plays and magic shows. It stands at the end of the main pathway from the Marcotte aquabus Station and through Belleau Region, resting on the waterfront with a grandiose altar behind. If the Court of Fontaine is the nation's brain, the Opera is its heart, working in harmony.
FORTRESS OF MEROPIDE
Located deep underwater, this is the destination for criminals — an impenetrable tower which hosts those exiled from the surface until their sentence is up. Despite its purpose, this isn't actually an unruly place — under Wriothesley's management as the Duke, inmates are seldom stirring trouble and actually work of their own volition, following his belief that this place should be one of reformation and rebirth rather than damnation. The tower is a spiralling structure with a multitude of floors wherein it's easy to get lost, but a sense of community and companionship between inmates will help with that. Rather than Mora, the Fortress runs on Credit Coupons as a form of currency, earned through work or, if you'd rather fight in the arena, that's an option too. If you can't afford to eat, the cafeteria does offer Welfare Meals, so there's no worry of starving.
ROMARITIME HARBOUR
The entrance into Fontaine is a tower that looms over the surrounding waters — though not the traditional way in (there are airships and other ports closer to Liyue and Mondstadt), it's the sight one finds after traversing the desert of Sumeru. There is little in the way of activity, serving more as a welcoming post to the Nation, a stop along the way as one jumps aboard the aquabus onward.
POISSON
Within a cavern of Belleau, a town resides in the shadow of a marooned ship, offering a much quieter atmosphere than the bustle of the city. Here one may find an escape to clear their heads, a reflection of Fontaine's multi-layered geography, somewhere in which an artist might come to hone a craft or concentrate on their work with fewer distractions. The area houses also the headquarters Spina di Rosula, who lend assistance and resources to the people who might otherwise slip under the radar, lost in the vast audience under the watch of the authorities.
FONTAINE RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF ENERGY ENGINEERING
A regional to the east of the Court with lesser life, bearing the scars of a catastrophic explosion dwells with a lingering echoes of ruin. Structures scattered bear the marks of destruction, partially caved or reduced outright to rubble. As if a warning sign to those who enter the territory, a sense of unnaturalness precedes — cubes made of water levitate as the centrepiece of fractured buildings far above the ocean. Though the explosive force of the institute's destruction has long passed, the thunder of its occurrence rings in the ears of researchers left picking up the pieces. It's best to prepare and proceed with caution if curiosity were to take your fancy and investigate the ambition of science now eyed warily.
INTERACTABLE NPCS
✧ Sigewinne
Head-nurse in the Fortress of Meropide, Sigewinne is a Melusine — a race birthed from Elynas, whose remains are buried within the ocean. Though they initially faced hostility from the humans they sought to learn about, over the past centuries, that frost reception has thawed into warm acceptance and care. Sigewinne and Wriothesley's companionship is the perfect example of how close the two races have come in collaboration and friendship. Without overworking her, Sigewinne is wholeheartedly dedicated to looking after all inmates within the Fortress, smiling to see them healthy and working to their heart's content, her heart practically bursting with affection for everyone both beneath and above the surface. But don't take that or her childish appearance to assume she's gullible or naïve — quite the opposite, her senses are sharply in-tune, so good luck trying to lead her on.
✧ Charlotte
Ace-journalist of The Steambird, Charlotte is practically unstoppable. Camera always in-hand, she's always on the move to find the next big story to share with the people, and having just reached the hidden truth of the serial disappearance cases, she's riding on a high. Although Fontaine sits on the brink of disaster, she doesn't let that gloom wear her down or milk it for the doomsday news that attracts eyes. Her demeanour is always bright and vibrant, even taking refusals for interviews with a smile and a challenge that she'll succeed in rather than be knocked down by.
✧ Navia
The leader of Spina di Rosula in place of her late-father. Navia has long been tormented by her father's demise and finally acquired closure for the case, as well as resolved the defamation attached to her beloved papa's name. Though she initially harboured a grudge against the authorities for what transpired a decade ago, she has made peace with the truth. Navia is a selfless woman, deeply sympathetic towards others and carrying emotions on par with her sense of responsibility. She was last seen returning to Poisson with her companions, Melus and Silver, to take in all that had recently developed.
✧ Clorinde
Alternative to a trial, an accused can opt to literally fight in order to clear their name against one of Fontaine's Champion duelists — and that is who Clorinde is. The best that the nation has to offer, she harbours a strong sense of duty as the left hand of justice to Neuvillette's right. Though she might be an executioner, she is not without a heart — Clorinde does not follow through without mercy or seeking to taste blood, and behind her stoic presentation, she is a much gentler soul than one might assume at first glance.
✧ Arlecchino / The Knave
Fourth of the Fatui Harbingers, she heralds originally from Fontaine and has left her mark in an orphanage named the House of the Hearth, which serves as an intelligence branch for the organisation. LUMINE & PAIMON
In their jump from Spirale to Fontaine, Lumine will retain her memories of the island, though the same won't be true for Paimon. She'll instead interpret Lumine's seemingly isolated experience to a result of her affinity with Teyvat's elements, like her connecting with the Primordial Water in the Fountain of Lucine. As such, Paimon won't disbelieve it even happening, and running into any other Outlanders would only strengthen the case.
Given the premise of the event and its timing, Lumine won't have reached the end of Fontaine's Archon Quest instead coming from the end of Act IV: Catalysm's Quickening, and I state this for various reasons. To begin with, everything above has been written as if 4.2 hadn't released and the story ahead remained unknown, because to the Traveler, it does (plus putting this together took a few days, so a canon point jump wasn't allowed anyway).
This means Fontaine still sits on the cusp of its prophecy being fulfilled and its apocalyptic flooding. Below the cut are elements fixed in place by this position, so to avoid spoiling yourself on the end of the Archon Quest, it's best not to go further if you're not caught up or don't play anyway.
✦ First and foremost, Lumine and Paimon's sentence in the Fortress of Meropide hasn't actually been served in full, so naturally it'll be where they land once out of Spirale. That said, they're on good terms with Wriothesley and were able to temporarily leave to meet up with Neuvillette and help Furina during her meeting with Arlecchino.
✦ Lumine still holds Childe's Vision on her person. The end of Act IV granted her the image of Childe floating in the Primordial Sea with the All-Devouring Narwhal, and that's the last she knows of his escape from the Fortress.
✦ The most crucial of all is the truth scope of Focalors' plan: as it all came to light in Act V, everyone is still under the belief Furina is truly the Hydro Archon. Though the question was thrown out there for the Traveler at the end of the previous, it's one without an answer. The curtain has not fallen on Furina's act; Focalors and the history of Fontaine's creation, its original sin and justice, remain buried deep beneath the waters. Those waters threatening to consume everything, but not yet have they engulfed Poisson.
