Part 2 here
Tumblr media
The crashing of books and pens falling on the tile floor rings out through the boy's bathroom, as a young, dark-haired boy is thrown harshly onto the cold multi-colored tile. The boy lets out a cry as he hits the ground, and he scrambles away upon impact, pressing his back up against the wall as he looks up at his assaulter.
"F-fuck off, Patrick!" Ahmed exclaims, his frightened eyes never leaving the predatory gaze of the bully who stands over him. Ahmed's free hand wanders around the bathroom floor, grasping blindly to try and find his book bag. Ahmed's accent only becomes more prominent, as his voice shakes and cracks. "Fuck did you say to me, you little shit?" Patrick grabs the boy by his collar, yanking him up from the ground and sneering at him. Ahmed gulps when he feels Patricks breath tickle his neck, making him tremble. "I-I didn't, didn't mean it, c'mon. I was just shocked when you threw me on the floor, it just slipped out." Patrick rolls his eyes, and as he does, his gaze falls on Ahmed's bright red backpack, laying open on the floor. Patrick notices how Ahmed's eyes widen when Patrick looks at it, causing Patrick to raise an eyebrow.
"What's in the bag, freak?" Patrick whispers, and before the sentence has even fully left his lips, Ahmed is fiercely shaking his head. "Nothing, nothing! Just work, please-" He hits the floor again, and he's sure tomorrow he'll be bruised from the rough treatment. "Pick it up." Ahmed looks up. "What?" "C'mon, pick it up. You're all freaked out, freak... I wanna know why, so I'm gonna tell you one more time." Patrick crouches down, and nods in the direction of the cloth schoolbag. "Pick. It. Up." He pauses after each word, relishing the fear in Ahmed's eyes.
Since Ahmed transferred to Morrisville high, Patrick had made his life a living hell. Not that he wasn't already unpopular at his old school, but people at least tried to avoid him there. People did here at first, before Patrick set his sights on Ahmed. Patrick wasn't sure what drew him to the scrawny, quiet boy. Possibly the way everyone avoided him, or maybe it was how little everyone knew about the new kid. Most likely, it was the knowledge that no matter what he did to the boy, or what he made him do, no-one was going to stand up for the boy. Patrick picked on everybody, but god, Ahmed became his favorite. The way he'd squirm, and cry. The way he was able to convince the other kids at the school to pick on the lonely boy. Things only got worse when Patrick found out that everyone at Ahmed's old school thought he was a freak too. Suddenly, shoulder-checks in the hallway became full-on beatings, stolen homework became shoes and clothes being taken from Ahmed's locker, or even right off the poor boy. Patrick never hesitated to remind Ahmed that even if he reported him, or got away from this school, that he'd still be a freak, no matter where he went.
Ahmed's sobs snap Patrick out of his reveling, as the scrawny boy crawls over to the bag, his hands shaking as he tries to grip the red canvas of the backpack. Patrick huffs, but before he can open up the backpack and take a look, he hears footsteps outside the bathroom, coming from down the hall. "Get in the fuckin' stall, go." Patrick growls, pointy sharply at the large handicapped stall at the other end of the bathroom. Patrick steps outside of the bathroom, and Ahmed can hear Patrick greeting whoever is outside. A friend of Patrick's probably. Another member of his little delinquent gang. Ahmed shuts the lid of the toilet and sinks down to sit on the lid, afraid his knees may give out. The sound of heavy boots approaches, and Patrick fingers slid around the stall door, pulling it open as he slips into the stall, locking it behind him. Ahmed tries to steady his breathing.
"Alright, open it up. C'mon." Patrick nods in Ahmed's direction. Shaking hands pull out textbooks, pens, pencils, even the leftovers from Ahmed's lunch. The objects clatter to the floor, scattering across the bottom of the stall. "See, nothing in here, just my school stuff." Ahmed's trembling hands extend the now empty bag to Patrick, presenting it almost proudly. "What... there's no fucking way." Patrick huffs. He begins to dig through the objects, kicking away the writing utensils as he grasps at the textbooks. He flips through each of the pages, trying to find anything incriminating. His frown only deepens as he finds nothing. He's about to give up, as he reaches for a blue folder labeled 'Math'. When he does, Ahmed lets out an involuntary whimper, causing Patrick to freeze. A sick grin spreads across the blonde's face, as he slowly pivots his head to look at Ahmed.
"There we go, somethin' in here you don't want me seeing?" He asks. Ahmed nods, tears cascading down his cheeks. "Alright, I'll tell you what, freak..." Patrick stands straight up, leaning up against the wall behind him. "Tell me what's in the folder, and I won't even look, okay? Just get it off your chest, I'm open-minded." Patrick purrs at the boy, watching his resolve crack in real-time.
"It's-" Ahmed goes quiet towards the end, his words so soft Patrick can't hear. "What was that? You gotta speak up." He sighs. "Or, I guess I could just look-" He moves to flip open the folder with the edge of his boot, causing Ahmed to jolt forward. "N-no!" The boy yells, thrusting his hands out in front of him. Patrick scoffs, tossing his head back for a moment as he laughs, clutching at his stomach. "Jesus, Ahmed, what the hell is in here that's got you so spooked?" Patrick asks. Ahmed shivers. Somehow Patrick using his real name is worse than him calling him 'freak'. It feels more personal.
"It's nudes... nude photographs." Ahmed whimpers, a blush of shame spreading across his cheeks as his gaze falls to the floor. "Oh- yours?" Patrick asks. Ahmed doesn't respond, causing Patrick's brows to furrow, an amused and pleasantly surprised expression coming onto his face. "Not yours, huh." Patrick glances down at the folder. "Who the hell's been giving you pussy, freak? Who's been letting you take those pics?" He asks. Ahmed's hands are tense, gripping the fabric covering his knees so hard that he worries they might tear.
"I- they didn't, alright?" Ahmed cries, curling his knees up to his chest and burying his face in shame. "They didn't-" Patrick takes a moment to process this information. His eyes light up in realization. "You really are a little pervert, huh? I knew something was off about you." He puts his hand on his knees, leaning over so he can make eye contact with Ahmed's curled up form. "A sick little pervert. You get off on those photos?" Ahmed whines. "Some poor kid at this school doesn't know that the school freak strokes it every night to a picture of them... poor them." Patrick leans down and picks up the folder.
"Wait, w-what are you doing, you said you wouldn't look if I told you the truth about what was in there?" Ahmed coughs, almost full on hyper-ventilating at this point, eyes wide in panic. Patrick nods, keeping eye contact with Ahmed as he flips open the folder. "True, but..." He shakes his head, his blonde locks falling from his loose ponytail. "How do I know you're telling me the truth about what's in here if I don't look?" Ahmed scoffs. "Why would I lie about having a folder of some creep-shots?" Patrick shrugs. "I don't know, maybe something like that doesn't seem that serious to you, y'know, because you're a pervert." He suggests. Patrick sticks his tongue teasingly out at Ahmed, before looking down at the gritty Polaroids nestled behind some math notes.
The photos are taken from all sorts of places. The ones at the front are simple upskirts from behind, the subjects face not visible. As Patrick examines more of them, he notices they seem to get more invasive. The final photograph was clearly shot at night, a bedroom window visible. The subject of the photo lies nude, and Patrick's face falls when he sees the face. He looks up at Ahmed, his breath halted. "They... they are cute, huh?" Ahmed looks up from his knees, confused. "You know them?" Ahmed swallows harshly, then nods. "Sort of... we have English together." As Ahmed explains the nature of his relationship to you, Patrick flips through the photos once more. Now that he knows these photos are of you, they have an even greater allure. "Hmm, I have lunch period with them, gym too..." He muses. "Heh, you should see em' in those little gym shorts, shit..." Ahmed isn't sure where this is going, but Patrick's calm tone and hyper-focused expression stress him out even more than when Patrick is outwardly aggressive. At least then he's predictable. Right now, Ahmed is in new territory with his tormentor.
Patrick sighs, and tucks the photos back into Ahmed's folder. He smacks the folder into the center of Ahmed's chest, making him let out a grunt as his trembling hands grip the blue plastic. "Listen, freak." He whispers. He places a hand on the wall behind Ahmed, allowing him to move his face right up in front of the boys. Brown eyes look back at him with fear. "Nobody has to know about all this. I'm still gonna kick your ass, but nobody has to know about your..." He thinks. "Let's call it 'extracurricular art project', okay?" Ahmed, gulps, and asks. "What do you want in return, I know the way you are." Patrick chuckles. "You're pretty smart, huh? Alright, I'll tell ya. Get me some of those photos, some new ones. And copy that last one, that shot into their room." He says. "Why, y-you like them too?" Ahmed whimpers. Patrick shrugs. "I know they've got a sweet little body, and I wouldn't mind a closer look at it, that's all." Ahmed considers this. If he doesn't agree, who knows what Patrick would tell everyone. God, Ahmed might even have to change schools again, and if he did, he couldn't be near you. He shakes his head. He won't let that happen.
"Alright, you got it. I- I think I can get them to you by friday." Ahmed offers, and Patrick nods. Ahmed moves to stand, but Patrick pushes him back. "One more thing, freak." He whispers. Ahmed bites his lips in fear. Patrick slips his hand from the boy's shoulder, down past his waist, and to the front of his victims school shorts. He roughly palms Ahmed's limp cock through his pants, making the boy choke on his own spit in shock. Patrick sighs softly at his reaction, leaning in to whisper into his ear.
"Snap me a pic of yourself too, freak..."

Reflecting on Beate Gütschow's Work
Breaking down the artist's way of work, investigating the 'I' series.
Transferring landscape paintings which incorporates conditioned visual perceptions to photography, Beate Gütschow digitises anolog photographs by following principles of studio paintings inspired from the Baroque times to the 18th century.
“You only need two or three of these rules, and the photos look like paintings, because that is how we have been trained to perceive things,” she explains.
Challenging the norms of perception, she’s able to detach herself from conventional image schemes to create her own reality, portraying an attempt to describe the object’s conditions.
Approaching new interpretations of traditional pictorial representations, Beate abandons her natural and urban scenes and dabbles on a more staged and confined space. The interiors have nothing in common with the daylight-flooded interiors of Dutch painting. Reminding us of advertising agencies, laboratories or offices and even photo studios, the various contemporary locations which are functionalistic rooms which allows a variety of things appear to stand under careful scrutiny or, in the case of the photo studios, to be in the process of being turned into “images.” There is a pause, a short delay, before, one can imagine, the objects are rearranged again.
Tumblr media
Using the aspect of flattening to make images, the two objects are viewed from overhead and depicted approximately life-size in the illuminated image. Identified, the black covering of the automatic transmission and rod next to it, assuming, linked to an automotive background as well. The meaning of their juxtaposition may not be clear at first glance, photographed against a wall of white tiles reinforced by the white flash from the front, the image is evidently attempting to describe the objects’ conditions. The work’s title can be translated as “Are you ready?”

Konstal mosaic tile mural, Chorzów, 2023
Konstal was founded in 1864 as a part of the Royal Steelworks in Chorzów – to the right of this photo's point of view. During the Communist Poland, as the Chorzów Steel Structures Factory Konstal, it was the main supplier of trams for Poland. In 1995, the company's shares were transferred to the National Investment Funds. In 1997, the company was bought out by Alstom, and a year later, simultaneously with the change of its name to Alstom, the Polish factory adopted its current name.

Friday 31 July 1998 - Night at the Rustler (W-Penzing) - guided by Franz Kaida’s voice - eating pizza rectangles in Schottentor - finally can take photos with the new camera
Friday 31 July 1998 Grüß Gott und Servus! Today twenty years ago marks the end of what is known as the Alte Rechtschreibung in German.  The Neue Rechtschreibung is the new orthography of German, which is not limited to just spelling but also punctuation.  I will tell more about it later on but that is one of the big news items of that day.
https://en.wikipedia.org/.../German_orthography_reform_of... This will be the first of three days heading eastward, possibly the farthest east from München I have ever been (Istanbul Sirkeci station in Turkey to date is the farthest).  I will be going to Vienna, then Budapest, then return stopping at Vienna Westbahnhof - the Hauptbahnhof next to Südbahnhof was not constructed and opened until 2016.  So here is the overview of what I did on Friday 31 July 1998.
- woke up about 7 AM from apartment - swung by the SSKM in Marienplatz to withdraw ATS 500 notes - arrived at München Hbf about 8:45 AM in time to find my Sommer Spezial car and reserved seat in 1st class - crossed into Austria about 10:30 AM, arrived in Salzburg around 10:45 AM, DB staff changed to ÖBB - a miracle with the camera happens about 12:15 PM, have lunch in the dining car to celebrate - arrive at Vienna Westbahnhof about 1:30 PM, try to find a hotel as the youth hostels are booked up - leave clothes bag at hotel room, walk to Johnstraße U-Bahn station - take U-Bahn to Prater via Philadelphiabrücke/Meidling station, end up at Prater by S-Bahn - take a trip down memory lane at the Prater, see the large Riesenrad Ferris Wheel - go into central Vienna with the U-2 via Schottentor.  Have pizza slices before making the transfer - listen to FM4 La Boum de Luxe and hear a bit of "Mo Betta Blues" Denzel Washington "What the world needs now (is *not* another love song)!" - take a tram tour to the Upper Belvedere, just get postcard of "der Kuss" by Gustav Klimt - stroll along to Stephansplatz and admire the multicolored tiled roof. - have a cup of Segafreddo coffee, go to Westbahnhof to buy a phrasebook with Hungarian - take U-3 to Johnstraße and bus 51 to Linzer Straße - listen to Hit Radio Ö3, read phrasebook and go to sleep
Okay, are you ready to have fun in Vienna?😀😃😄🇦🇹 Let me give you some background on Vienna.  Unlike Zürich, which I could remember from a relatively recent visit, I had only been to Vienna once as a young child.  I barely even remember what I did there.  I had to study maps so that I would have a general idea of what to see.  I also had a German-language guidebook on Vienna, which included vocabulary not otherwise used in Germany, or even in most parts of Austria for that matter.  The one map I needed to familiarize myself with, was the U-Bahn system.  I think I did fine overall.  Oh, and at work, everyone knew in advance that I was taking Friday the 31st July off, so it was no problem.😀
As the last weekend in July is usually the time that Bavaria and Austria are let go for the summer holidays, it was impossible to book a bed in any youth hostel.  I had to improvise, but I did not know of any hotels in Vienna, so I went without any reservation - very unusual for me, given my custom of prior booking in advance.  So with an open mind, I woke up (I forgot to do something important but could not remember what) about 6:30 AM, took my shower to avoid clashing with the roommates schedules, had a quick breakfast with coffee and then took the bus and U-Bahn into Marienplatz.  The Stadtsparkasse had ATMs that would give 🇦🇹 ATS bills, for example the 500 ATS.  This was worth about € 36 or around 71 D-Mark each.  On the front was Rosa Mayreder who replaced Otto Wagner.  https://upload.wikimedia.org/.../155px-500_Schilling_Rosa....  This was a new and possibly last pre-Euro series.  Moritz Daffinger and Sigmund Freud among others would still be visible on their respective notes.  I think I had withdrawn about 2,500 ATS, more than enough for the weekend.  And it was time to head to München Hbf.
I had a Sommer-Spezial ticket for Vienna, 89,00 D-Mark for one way in first class, quite a bargain, but with the "usual strings attached".  I also had my Eurail Pass which I was going to use on 1st and 2nd August.  I found the train car and it was full, I was the last to arrive.  The train left about 9:10 AM.  I had the radio going,📻🎧 listening to Bayrische Rundfunk 3 aka Bayern3 (which I listened to the most during Summer 1998).  I think about Aying the signal was getting weak so I switched to the Rosenheim repeater frequency.  It worked for a while until Traunstein.  If you have been between München and Salzburg, you can likely imagine you are first going through a fairly flat forest land up to Rosenheim, then slightly hilly terrain up to Freilassing with mountains to the south, with a couple of lakes (eg. Chiemsee).   It is the same trajectory I took 20th and 21st June 1998.
At Freilassing, the Hit Radio Ö3 station could be heard clearly.  After it played "Everybody" by DJ Bobo, the announcer was mentioning the Lassing mine disaster in the Steiermark - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lassing_mining_disaster.  It happened 17 July and I heard about it first on 24th July when I was trying to tune in the DRS channels while in Lindau/Bregenz.  After that, the train rolled into Salzburg to change the locomotive from DB to ÖBB to go the rest of the way to Vienna Westbahnhof.  The train would not change direction until then.
The train stopped at Attnang-Puchheim, then went on to Linz and St Pölten.  I was trying to take photographs with the point and shoot camera I bought in Milan.  Until then I did not know the technique to properly thread in the film, so I had been just clicking the button and turning the thumbwheel, and all the while the counter went up to 36 shots and I had no idea.  Then I had a fresh roll of film that I opened, opened the back, and then there was a slot with a tooth that I should have put the film in, so I did that, and the next thing I knew, there was resistance with the frame advance thumbwheel, and I thought I had mastered the camera.  I took a few shots of the rear of the train (it turned out that the slot was the secret).  😃To celebrate this "victory", I treated myself to a chicken lunch in the dining car.😋  I had the chicken plate with vegetables including red bell pepper and some quinoa-like grain with an Austrian beer.  I think it cost only 350 ATS altogether.  I had to be careful with my finances thereafter, as I did not know, how much the hotel would cost for the night.
When I arrived at Vienna Westbahnhof, it was about 1:30 PM.  I thought there would be some directory for hotels, but there was this office that would take care of travellers so they found a low-budget hotel for me in the Penzing district, about a 15 minute tram ride away.  I would stay at Hotel Rustler, on Linzer Straße 43, close to Johnstraße and reachable by bus, but had to take care of the local transit fares first.  I bought a 24 hour ticket for 80 ATS.  I took the tram to Linzer Straße, and the hotel seemed a bit spooky. 😱 The man took my 350 ATS and gave me a towel.  My room was a single bedroom and had only a sink but no toilet and no shower.  Breakfast was included.  At least I would have some quiet at night.  I left my clothes bag there and went into the city center. I wanted to see the Prater, so I went on a southern approach, kind of through the current Hauptbahnhof which did not exist until 2015 or so.  I did not wait for the bus so I decided to walk to the Johnstraße U-Bahn station.  In Austria cars can have personalized plates, prepended by the district code to which it is registered.  One rich guy who owned a Vienna-registered 🚗 Corvette had "W-HALCO" as his personalized plate, I am not sure where the photo of it is anymore.  At a park along the way, there was a sign "Wer Tauben füttert, füttert auch Ratten" (If you feed pigeons, you also feed rats).  🕊=🐀
Probably 25 minutes after I left the hotel, I arrived at Johnstraße.  The station was the current western terminus of the U-3, and before passing the ticket cancellation machines, there was this grotesque figure called the "Hudriwudri", and stood atop a circular ashtray to remind passengers to not smoke in the station 🚭 and also in the train.  The Hudriwudri wears very little, aside from a homburg hat, circular glasses, a purple and pink necktie and purple shoes.  Passing the Hudriwudri, I went downstairs to the platform where U3 would go to Westbahnhof and change to the U-6 and do the anticlockwise circle to the Prater.  There was a train waiting.  As it departed and headed to Schweglerstraße and on to Westbahnhof, I heard the next-station announcement with the same voice as the tram, following a bing-bong chime.  Almost every time, the voice would also announce the line transfers where applicable.  For busses and trams, he would sometimes say "Kurzstreckengrenze" to announce the end of a current discount fare zone, and sometimes "Wir bitten Sie, an älteren oder behinderten Fahrgästen, sowie Personen mit kleineren Kindern, Sitzpläte zu überlassen." to ask passengers to give up their seats to the elderly, disabled and mothers/fathers with young children.  His voice seemed a bit monotone.  I would find out later the name of the person doing the voices, and he had been doing that from approx 1976 to 2012 when he retired.
After arriving at the U-3 platform for Westbahnhof, I took the passage to the U-6 platform.  The U-6 was built as a low-floor tram originally and was subsequently refurbished to subway standards.  The U-6 was kind of like a roller coaster ride between Westbahnhof and Längenfeldgasse since the Otto-Wagner-designed Gumpendorfer Straße station was elevated while the rest were underground up to Philadelphiabrücke/Meidling.  Meidling is an intermodal transfer stop for S-Bahn and the U-6.  The S Bahn as well as the "Wiener-Baden Bahn" was on the surface.  Waiting for the next S-Bahn to the Praterstern, it took about ten minutes as it was not yet the beginning of the evening rush hour.  The train came and made its way past Matzleinsdorfer Platz, the former Südbahnhof which became Hauptbahnhof, the Belvedere, Wien Mitte commuter rail station and finally Praterstern.  Praterstern is like a Coney Island, less so a Six Flags park.  Admission is free of charge, rides require tickets, including the famous giant ferris wheel. 🎡🎢 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vienna....
When I walked through the Prater, it was like my previous visit in 1976.  The one thing I remember from that time, was the pony ride, so I stopped by.  There were a few roller coasters, fun-houses, the Liliputbahn, a gravity drop thrill ride, .  There even were a few currency exchange places around the Prater.  They accepted many eastern European currencies to change to the Schilling, particularly the Czech Koruna, Slovak Koruna, Hungarian Forint, Yugoslav Dinar, Polish Zloty, Romanian Leu, Bulgarian Lev and many more.  One place in the Prater that I wish I went, was the Schweizer Haus.  https://www.schweizerhaus.at/menu.asp.  That is Vienna's best beer garden.  Pretty much anything you might find in Germany, is served here as well but with a Vienna twist.  This includes the famous Vienna Sausage known as "Frankfurter", Bratwürstel, Gulasch, Schnitzel, Sauerkraut and the grilled half-chicken, Oktoberfest-style.  They can slice up a fresh white radish, and make their own potato chips in-house.  Powidltascherl are essentially pierogies.  Mohnnudeln are dumplings with ground poppy seed topping.  As for beer, they have proper Czech Budweiser, Gieskirchner and Paulaner Hefe.  At some point I hope to eat at the Schweizer Haus, next time I visit Vienna. 😋🇦🇹
I wanted to see more of Vienna after the Prater.  To go back to the center, particularly Karlsplatz, I would need to take the U-1 to Schwedenplatz, then U-4 and U-2 to Schottentor.  Schottentor has an interesting tram stop which has its lower level exposed as a departures platform.  I bought some pizza, one with ham and mushrooms, and the other a spinach and fried egg, and I ate it at the stop, since eating was not necessarily prohibited at the station, but it was frowned upon in the trams.  I then went on the U-2 to Karlsplatz to have a look around.  Karlsplatz is where the famous Opera building is located, great for ballroom dancing events and professional performances.
I thought after seeing Karlsplatz, it would be a good time to go on a surface tram tour around the city center.  The lines 1 and 2 run along the former location of the city wall.  I went clockwise on line 1 to Schottentor, passing the Parliament and Rathaus.  Then I changed direction, took the tram 1 to Volkstheater and changed to line 2.  I went to about Schwarzenbergplatz so that I could see the Schloß Belvedere.  This is where many of Gustav Klimt's works are stored.  I would return in January 2002 to see his works, including "Der Kuss".  I even bought a postcard for a professor who liked Klimt's works, and she let me know when it arrived in the USA (I think 5th-6th August 1998).  And after that, I went through the Stadtpark to Johannesgasse, then along the Kärntnerstraße (both pedestrian zones) to the Domkirche St Stephan.  This cathedral was built in the 14th Century AD in the gothic style with some romanesque elements here and there.  Its roof is one of the most interesting of all cathedrals I have ever seen, namely on the top there are black, grey, green and white tiles, and in the stripe below there are black, yellow, green and grey in sort of a diamond shape.   One side has two eagles, one with the shield of the Republic of Austria and the other with the shield of the city of Vienna.
After seeing the ⛪ Stephansplatz, I needed to go to the 🚉 Westbahnhof rail station to buy a🛒📕 phrasebook, hopefully there would be one for Hungarian, even if written for German speakers.  Vienna is close to two other countries so it would seem logical.  But before that, I somehow felt the need to have an espresso, as coffee houses are so common in Vienna.  I found one that featured Segafredo coffee.  I had a cup of espresso and I think also a small cookie about the size of a pink eraser.  And an 8 ounce glass of water to go with that. ☕+🥛+🍪 During the time I was enjoying my evening espresso, I was listening to the FM4 La Boum de Luxe show in "Denglish", namely alternating between English and German.  They even played a section of Mo Better Blues when Denzel Washington as Bleek Gilliam singing a spoof of Jackie DeShannon's "what the world needs now", and he said mockingly "is *not* another love song!".  FM4 is still broadcasting even in 2018.  After that it was time to head to the rail station before the shops would close for the day.
The journey from ⛪ Stephansplatz to Westbahnhof would be fairly simple.  Get on the U-3 and stay on for five stations and head to the national railways.  I left the radio on and recorded just static for the time I was underground, so however long it takes to get from Stephansplatz to Westbahnhof by the U-3, that is as much white noise as I recorded.  What I wanted to record, was the voice of the subway announcer but that did not work until I went from Westbahnhof to Johnstraße.  But I was not ready, I had to go to a bookshop to buy a phrasebook. 📕🛒 The only relevant phrasebook available was "Osteuropa", it had enough Hungarian for my purposes.  Other languages included Albanian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Slovak, Slovene, Romanian, Polish, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian and Russian.  It was written for German speakers, so I had to learn to speak from a German point of view rather than my natural US English view.  The book was bought, and then it was time to go back to the hotel.
I only had to take the U-3 to Johnstraße and the bus 51 to Linzer Straße to get to the hotel.  Once I arrived, I went to my room and read through the phrasebook to try to learn some phrases, like "jó napot", "kerem" and "köszönöm".  Hungarian has about nine vowels and almost 30 consonants, some of which require two letters.  For example, the letter S is pronounced as "Sh" and SZ is pronounced as "S".  The letters Ö and Ü are essentially the same as in German but there long and short versions, German uses a short Ö and Ü by default and to lengthen it, the letter "h" is used, like "öh" and "üh", but in Hungarian, something like a double acute accent is used, as Ő and Ű.  Another consonant that is difficult for most to pronounce is "gy".  It sounds something like a short "dzyerh".  From Wikipedia "The sound voiced palatal plosive / ɟ /, written ?gy?, sounds similar to 'd' in British English 'duty' (in fact, it is more similar to the Macedonian phoneme ' Ђ ' as in '?????'). It occurs in the name of the country, "Magyarország" (Hungary), pronounced /ˈmɒɟɒrorsaːɡ/ "  Oh and what is a "pályaudvar"?  Its an important word to know.  That and "napijegy".
Well I thought I got pretty much a good vocabulary for my needs, and it would be put to the test the following day.  Before I went to sleep, which would be about 11:50 PM, I would take some time to listen to the radio, a bit of FM4 and then switch over to Hit Radio Ö3.  On the radio was Dr Motte with the 1998 Love Parade theme song "One world one future", then it went to hip-hop flashing back to Summer 1992 for some bizarre reason.  Before the news, Hit Radio Ö3 played "Jump around" by House of Pain, "Jump Jump" by Kriss Kross and an abbreviated "Insane in the membrane" by Cypress Hill.  At midnight the radio announcer said "es ist Null Uhr", and the newsreader did the news, mentioning the Lassing Mine Disaster and progress made, as well as it being from that moment in time, the German Spelling Reform was in effect.
That was all for 31st July 1998, and it's now a new month, and the new German grammar and punctuation reform goes into effect.  And I visit a new country and virtually visit another (at least through radio waves).  Find out more tomorrow.
Gute Nacht und bis morgen! Jó éjszakát és holnapig! (31st July 1998 I did not learn that phrase) 🇭🇺 Dobrou noc a až zajtra! 🇸🇰

Chapter 16: EpilogueBy GleefulPoppet
Prom Day Saturday, May 15th, 2038 (25 Years Later)
“Oh, babe, those were the days, were they not?” Blaine brushed his fingertips over the Prom photo from almost exactly 25 years ago. “Look how little we were.”
“We were so little. Can you believe how delusional all that was with Sebastian bursting into the Prom and thinking he could somehow reconcile with you? I haven’t thought about it for a long time.” Kurt laughed and kissed the top of Blaine’s head where he was snuggled between Kurt’s legs with his back to Kurt’s chest, holding up the scrapbook he had made so many years ago.
“Delusional is the word! Sometimes, I wonder what his life turned out to be like.”
“I hope he got his act together. He was such a pompous ass,” Kurt said.
“He really was. It’s nice to think about Landon and Dave, though. We received that announcement in the mail a few weeks ago about the two foster kids they adopted; it was adorable. Who would have thought it? They ran off and got married before we did! And Dave’s the football coach for a community college in…”
“Nebraska. They’ve won a couple of state championships, and Landon is a teacher there. Astonishing when you think about it, how what happened to me with Dave drove me to Dalton, where I met you and Alex. Then, I returned to McKinley, and you transferred. Then Dave came back. Alex came to visit and told us about Landon, and then he fell in love with Dave and helped him find his potential. And Dave helped him in return. And somewhere in there, you and I finally said, ‘I love you,’ in the more-than-friends way.” Kurt chuckled.
“We sure did. Best day of my life,” Blaine hummed as he turned to another random page. They were having fun looking at the book out of order. “Oh, my heavens! My 18th birthday!” He started laughing and shaking his head. “We were still in the thick of our fake-dating ruse.”
“I was pining for you so hard I think I had drool stains on my shirt. Look at you, so hot in that gray-and-white-striped shirt, bow tie with yellow polka dots, and your mustard yellow pants.” This time, Kurt touches the photograph. “And I just wanted to turn off that damn karaoke machine and give you the world’s most passionate kiss.”
“Oh, yeah? Well, why didn’t you?”
“Because that was impossible. You’d already given me what I thought was the world’s most passionate kiss at Rachel’s party.”
“Little did we know…”
“How amazing kissing can be? And how sex gets better the older you are?”
“Exactly. I think it’s hysterical we thought our sex life would be over after our 20s.”
Kurt whispers in Blaine’s ear, “Mmm... It’s not, is it? How many times did I have you begging for more last night? How many times did I swallow your screams in my mouth to help keep you quiet? And we just turned 43 this year, so really, I think we should plan on enjoying ourselves into our 90s, don’t you?” Kurt said as he nipped behind his husband’s ear, causing him to shiver.
“At least.” Blaine pushed back into Kurt; he could feel him getting interested. They went in waves, like this week, where they had the hottest sex ever for hours on end or even multiple times a day, which sometimes turned into maybe once a week and everywhere in between. “Don’t start, love. Please? Later. We’re going to get in trouble again.”
Kurt buried his head in Blaine’s shoulder to stifle his laughter. “We so would. I’ll be good. Next random page.”
Blaine quickly closed the book and unfurled it again. “Our college acceptance letters! Remember? My parents came over, we had Carole’s three-layer chocolate cake, and we opened all our letters together.”
“Yes! We nearly broke our parents’ eardrums when we got accepted to NYADA! We could have damaged our voices! After that, I don’t think we even cared about the other letters.”
“I loved going to college with you and living in that tiny little apartment with avocado-colored appliances and that sunshine yellow tile, constantly trying to make ends meet. You worked at the diner all those years, and I taught piano lessons, doing all we could to make our dreams come true one day at a time. And now look at us. We did okay, didn’t we?”
“We did. Living in a brownstone and working on Broadway or off-Broadway productions for the last 20 years in one capacity or another. You, my exceptional husband, have two Tony awards, a slew of other awards, and a new show opening soon with your original music. It’s been extraordinary.”
“And how many do you have, Kurt?”
“Stop. I want to gush about you, not me.”
“You have three, Kurt Hummel. Three Tony awards and you deserve every one of them. Not to mention, you were the first of the New Directions to get one.”
Kurt chuckled. “Rachel has never forgiven me, not really. Hers wasn’t far behind, though.”
“Another page?” Blaine asked.
“Yeah. I think we have time for one more before we have to get ready.” Kurt glanced over at the clock.
He flipped the pages again. “Oh, graduation day! That was marvelous.”
“Yes, it was, Mr. Valedictorian! We thought that day would never come, and then it came and went in seconds, and now we’ve been together longer than we were alive in these pictures.”
“Wow. There’s some perspective for you.”
“Do you remember what happened on graduation night? On our way to the final party at Rachel’s, you were so desperate for it, telling me all the fantasies you’d had, that we pulled over in a darkened parking lot and climbed into the back seat, and you—”
Blaine cut Kurt’s story off with his lips, tilting his head to get a more suitable angle with the way they were sitting, and opened his mouth to deepen it. He wanted to get lost in his husband’s arms for just a minute. It still made Blaine’s stomach flutter when he was fully present in the moment and felt so much gratitude that they’d made it this far, still so in love.
They heard a loud thump upstairs and then a chorus of girls laughing. “Dads! We’re coming down. You’d better not be making out again!” A teen voice carried down the stairs.
“How do they know? How do they always know?” Blaine groaned as he reluctantly pulled away from Kurt’s decadent mouth.
Kurt tipped his head back and laughed. “Would you like some more perspective? Our daughter is as old as we are in these photos, and we’ll be adding her Prom and graduation pictures to her scrapbook this month.”
“It’s gone so fast.”
When the four girls arrived at the bottom of the stairs, Blaine and Kurt gasped and jumped up from the couch. “You all look so beautiful!” they said in unison.
“You did a spectacular job with hair and makeup on each other,” Kurt said, reaching out and twirling his daughter, Audrey, to inspect her. “So perfect. All of you,” he said as he looked over their hair.
“Thank you, Dad,” they chimed. Of course, only two of them were his. All their children’s friends called them ”Dad,” and they had an incredible relationship with them. Their home was a haven for all the kids. When things in the outside world were scary and school was hard, everyone knew they were welcome at the Hummel-Anderson’s for hugs, fun, advice when asked for, singing, a quiet zone study room, food from a kitchen that was never closed, and somewhere that was always safe.
At that moment, the front door flew open. “I’m home!” Spencer yelled.
One of the girls, Sophia, squealed, “Hide me! He can’t see me yet!”
“Spencer, don’t come in here unless you want the wrath of your girlfriend. Take your tux upstairs. I’ll call you when it’s safe,” Blaine half-shouted as he headed towards the foyer to greet him.
“Thanks, Dad. That would’ve been scary.”
“I agree,” he said as he patted him on the shoulder and then headed back to Kurt.
“Hi, Papa! You going to help me?” he shouted as he bounded up the stairs two at a time.
“Yup! Tell me when you’re ready,” Kurt called back.
Sophia said, “Oh, thank heavens. You’re going to do his hair?” which made their other friend, Lana, laugh because Spencer was notorious for laying down the hair gel despite everyone’s grumbling.
“I am indeed,” Kurt replied and then chuckled. “Whatever you threatened him with convinced him.”
She nodded. “Thank you!”
“Anything for you girls. Now, do you have everything you need? Your gowns are still intact? Shoes are still in pairs? Nothing is slipping off and needs altering?”
“Yes. Thank you, Papa. You’ve checked a dozen times. We just have to put our dresses on when it gets closer. We thought we’d help with the food for Greer’s party tonight since she helped us get ready for Prom.” She poked her little sister, a freshman in high school.
“Well, that is sweet of you ladies,” Blaine said. “Papa and I already finished it all, though, so why don’t you go relax before the chaos starts and you have to get dressed in an hour?”
“You’re sure?” Audrey and Greer asked simultaneously.
Kurt smiled, a warmth spreading through his chest. It had been such a privilege to see these kids get older and how they lived—each in their own way—what he and Blaine had tried to teach them. Their family motto, which hung in several places in their home, was C.O.U.R.A.G.E. (Communication, Open-minded, Understanding, Respectful, Adventurous, Grateful, Educated). His kids were always willing to help, so he didn’t mind the insanity that was about to start.
“We’re sure. Audrey, yours and Lana’s dates and their parents and Sophia’s parents should all be here in 90 minutes. We’ll do pictures and send you off to Senior Prom. Well, Junior Prom for Spencer and Sophia. In two hours, all of Greer’s friends should arrive, and once we make sure they are all here safely for their outdoor movie night—complete with a popcorn and candy bar, a cooler full of sodas, and six extra-large pizzas being delivered, including a gluten-free and vegan option—then we’ll head out with all the Prom date parents for dinner.”
“Oh, is that all?” Audrey teased.
“Well, Dad and I can still add volunteering as chaperones at your Prom!”
“Oh, Dads! No! We talked about this. You would sing every other song or dance in a dark corner. Ewww. Public displays of affection. I love you, Papa, but no. Thank you.”
All the girls laughed and dashed upstairs.
Kurt pulled Blaine into his arms and kissed him playfully, parting with a mwwwah.
“You ready to get all dressed up for our hot date?” Blaine asked.
“I am indeed! Shall we?” Kurt offered his elbow as they headed toward their room.
Blaine beamed as he glanced at his husband. “What a wonderful, wonderful life.”

good morning!! i took a big chunk of the day off for liz's last day and we are going to take a mini road trip out to the north cascades national park to see some NATURE. she leaves very late tonight and then i have lightly busy workdays tues/wed followed by an easy day thurs before my friend kristin arrives thursday night. kristin is here till sunday evening so more adventuring etc which will be good for me. I just learned that we get next monday off for columbus day and I almost wept with joy. I was actually thinking about requesting that day off so I could enjoy a day of Complete & Utter Solitude to mark the end of friend/family visits. but now I can just do it for free!!
ok just gonna think aloud a little before i log off for the day... here are the house things that i have left to do.
this week:
finish painting dayroom (in this color)
do a second coat of white on stairwell wall
buy more potting soil
transfer one of my pothos plants to wall planter
install wall planter on stairwell wall
measure and buy wood pallet to raise up dresser
potentially buy crates for plant corner
experiment with hanging art on stairwell wall
put together IKEA bookshelves and unpack books (FINALLY)
take everything off standing desk and fix broken motor
longer-term projects and purchases (for when i am not weary and broke as hell):
BEDROOM: paint bedroom, put up art or photos, get new headboard, get new nightstand
DAYROOM: this is kind of a junk storage room now with a workstation set up in the middle but that's a shame because it's such a lovely big room that gets gorgeous light all day long. i need to do some thinking about what i want to do with the space. i definitely think this could be a Plant Room because it's the best light in the house. but i also just hmm need to think about what i want the room to feel like and what i'd like to use it for outside of the workday... like i want to do a lot of writing in here ideally so i need to think about what kind of space would best facilitate that
LAUNDRY ROOM: sand and paint pantry shelves, wallpaper back of shelves, get some better organizational stuff for pantry
LITTLE LIBRARY: sand and paint bookshelves, wallpaper back of shelves, get a circular rug, put up art
HALF BATH: this is lowest priority right now but i do want to paint and put up art... if i end up staying for a while i also want to put down peel and stick tile
KITCHEN: put up peel and stick backsplash, sand and paint chairs, potentially put up wall planters
LIVING ROOM: buy TV console and/or shoe rack, figure out plant corner, install curtain brackets and hang curtains, touch up paint from old curtain brackets, swap out that one lamp

Former President Donald Trump’s son, Eric Trump, voiced his disgust for the venue where the Trump civil fraud trial is being held, describing it as having an unpleasant odor and being a “disgrace.”Eric Trump made these remarks during an interview on the right-wing news channel Newsmax following his day at the New York State Supreme Court building in Lower Manhattan.Eric Trump. (Photo: @UnionCrusaderX/X)“The courthouse I was in today, it’s disgusting. It smells. You had cables running across all the walls. It’s a disgrace and the fact that that’s a representation of our legal system…” he said this week. “You see the same thing at airports. I mean how many times do you fly through an airport and you see acoustical airport tiles that are falling down, right?”Trending Today:The civil trial for a $250 million lawsuit brought forth by New York’s Attorney General Letitia James against Trump, the Trump Organization, and his two eldest sons, Donald Jr. and Eric, commenced on Monday.Donald Trump, who has largely steered clear of courtrooms, has been attending the Manhattan court where prosecutors accuse him, his company, and his family of deliberately inflating property values to commit insurance fraud. Trump has vehemently denied any wrongdoing.Eric Trump’s tactless remarks opened him to criticism on social media.“New York County Supreme Court is not disgusting, nor does it smell,’’ wrote one X user. “It has a magnificent mural in the ceiling of its central rotunda detaling the history of justice from ancient times. It is a consummate courthouse, and Eric Trump is just a whining crybaby.”The New York State Court website says the New York Supreme Court’s first-floor entrance boasts a dramatic vestibule leading to a majestic colonnade and the grand rotunda. It highlights Italian and American marbles throughout the space.Wait until you get a wiff of jail! Judge Arthur Engoron ruled on Sept. 26 that Trump and his associates had inflated property values in financial statements, misleading banks and insurers. The civil trial will primarily determine the size of the penalty. In response to Judge Engoron’s summary judgment, which ordered the revocation of some of their business licenses in New York and the transfer of properties named in the judgment to independent receivers, on Wednesday, Trump and his sons appealed the judge’s pre-trial ruling.During this week’s proceedings, Cameron Harris, an accountant from Whitley Penn, Trump’s accounting firm, testified. Harris asserted that Eric Trump “set the tone at the top” of the Trump Organization and emphasized that the Trumps bore ultimate responsibility for their financial statements.“Eric Trump whining about the smell and appearance of a courtroom is the height of hypocrisy, given the fact that he and his family are accused of massive fraud. He should be more worried about the smell of prison soap,” wrote another X user.Read the original story here.

Ceramic Decal Market Growth Dynamics 2023 Emerging Technologies and Supply Chain Analysis
Tumblr media
The ceramic decal market is a segment of the ceramic industry that produces decals or transfers that are used to decorate ceramic ware. These decals are made from special paper that is coated with a layer of special inks. The inks are designed to transfer onto the ceramic surface when the decal is fired in a kiln.
The ceramic decal market has been growing steadily in recent years due to increasing demand for customized and personalized ceramic ware. The use of decals allows manufacturers to offer a wide range of designs and patterns without the need for skilled artisans to paint them by hand.
The market for ceramic decals can be segmented by product type, application, and geography. Product types include water-slide decals, dry rub-off decals, and digital decals. Water-slide decals are the most popular type of ceramic decal and are typically used for smaller items such as ceramic tiles or tableware. Dry rub-off decals are more commonly used for larger items such as tiles or murals. Digital decals are a newer technology that uses digital printing to produce high-quality, photo-realistic images.
Applications of ceramic decals include tableware, tiles, sanitary ware, and glassware. Tableware accounts for the largest market share due to the widespread use of ceramic dinnerware and drinkware in households and restaurants. Tiles are also a significant application for ceramic decals, particularly in the construction industry where ceramic tiles are used extensively for flooring and wall cladding.
Geographically, the ceramic decal market is segmented into North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Rest of the World. Asia-Pacific is the largest market for ceramic decals, driven by the large ceramics industry in China and India. North America and Europe are also significant markets due to the high demand for customized ceramic ware in these regions.
Key players in the ceramic decal market include Steuler Fliesen GmbH, Bailey Decal Limited, Milestone Decal Art, Deco Art Inc., and Bel Decal. These companies offer a range of decal products and services to cater to the diverse needs of their customers.
In conclusion, the ceramic decal market is a growing segment of the ceramics industry that offers manufacturers a cost-effective way to produce customized and personalized ceramic ware. The market is driven by increasing demand for unique designs and patterns and is expected to continue to grow in the coming years.

[Image text: Leighton House - Sambourne House. Philip writes: Twilight at the Sambournes: Punch cartoonist Linley Sambourne bought No. 18, Stafford Terrace, Kensington in 1874, and lived there with wife Marion and children Maud and Roy until his death in 1910. The house stayed in the family; it was Roy’s home for his entire life, and eventually passed to Maud’s daughter Anne Rosse, who retained it until the late 1970s. The house was subsequently transferred to the GLC, and then RBKC, and has been open to the public as a museum since that time. Extraordinarily, the house was decorated and furnished by Linley and Marian in the 1870s, and stayed fundamentally unchanged for the next century and a half. It survived the war largely unscathed, and is one of London’s finest period interiors, because it is so complete, and so original. I have recently started volunteering with the visitor experience team at Sambourne House, and it’s a privilege to invite people to step back into the aesthetic era. The house feels as though the family has just stepped out, perhaps to dine with Rider Haggard, Oscar Wilde or John Tenniel; and as the light changes through the day, the rooms change as well. Dusk falls, and while I waited for one of the maids to light the fires, draw the heavy velvet curtains and bring me a whisky and soda, I set up my “detective camera” and grabbed a few snapshots for the album. If you haven’t called on the Sambournes, you really should. Find at more at @leightonsambournemuseums - Key Emoji, Clock Emoji. /.End ID]

[Image text: Writing Prompt - Come Inside: No! It can't be over already. Thankfully, Philip posts new, brilliant images and captions of London's architecture daily. I think you will continue to find much inspiration there. Thank you @philip.downer. For our final prompt, we are going inside. Architecture leads us in, and it's the paraphernalia of life that perhaps tells even more stories. Look at the way the stuff in this house has been preserved. How much does it tell us about Linley and Marion? SO, Choose an object or an area in the house and tell it's story. We hope you have enjoyed this week and that you've put pen to paper a few times. /.End ID]
[Image text: Artist Prompt - Come Inside: Wow, that’s a lot of subject material! I’d love to go and visit Sambourne House and just spend the whole afternoon combing through every inch of the place and nosying through all the photos and furniture, I’m sure I could do it ten times and still find something new each time. What would it be like to be a little Borrower living in those walls? Have a look through these images and choose something that really stands out to you, an object, the tiling, whatever calls out to you from your screen and recreate it in your own style. And now ends our week of prompts. We hope you’ve enjoyed the imagery and discovered something new, be that a technique, a subject, or information (perhaps you’ll submit it for Scribbles’ next magazine DISCOVERY). Don’t forget to show Philip’s instagram some love @philip.downer. /.End ID]

Taking The Arrow - Process
Tumblr media
Breakdown of the painting process
“1308AD.  France. The Templar Order has fallen. King Philip IV has a price on the heads of its remaining members and associates.  Three Knights, Pierre, Jean, and Reynaud are on the run and head for the Order’s last bastion of safety: The island monastery and fortress, Mont-Saint Michel.  There they are presented with an opportunity to fight the king using dark methods. Soon, they are met with an untamable evil that turns Mont-Saint Michel from haven to prison. They will discover that not only does evil lurk beyond the walls of the monastery, but the actions of the past torment them within the walls of their own minds.”
Over the last while, I have had the pleasure of illustrating a phenomenal book by Dalton James titled “The Night’s Many.” With his permission, I am going to share some sneak peeks of the finished illustration, as well as some insights into the process of making each one!
Our first image is titled Taking the Arrow. This scene is a flashback of one of the characters to his time during a war in England. During the battle, he is hit with an arrow (surprise) and is lost amid the chaos of bodies and presumed dead.
Now that we have a little background, let’s dig into the process.
Tumblr media
Thumbnails/ideation
Every illustration should start with thumbnails and ideation. Admittedly, I tend to work on loose leaf paper and sometimes misplace them. So this is the only one I could find.
This image provided a unique challenge as I wanted to somehow capture the chaos of the battle, and those few moments of calm that the character had before blacking out. A major theme of this flashback was being lost among the fallen soldiers and I had this image in my head of being tangled up and swallowed by a mass of bodies. This would create a sort of pocket of solitude despite being in the middle of the battle.
I also took this time to research some period style armor and weaponry just to get an idea of what I would be working with in the image. Taking some time do studies helps us better understand the shapes and forms in an object, so when we get to the final piece, we are more comfortable exaggerating or putting them in different positions.
Tumblr media
Preliminary Drawing - Blue Pencil and Graphite approx. 5”x8”
Once the concept was nailed down, it was time to move onto the preliminary drawing. This was done in a moleskine notebook using a non photo blue mechanical pencil and graphite.
A lot of my work tends to have a single figure or character in it, so this was really fun to try and fit as many bodies in as I could. Using things like the spears and arrows I created “blocks” for the viewer to keep them in the image. Everything swirls around the central figure and directs the eye back to his face and the arrow in his chest.
Tumblr media
Final Drawing - 12”x16” Graphite on Toned Watercolor Board
After the composition was solved, I scanned, enlarged, printed, and transferred my sketch to a toned piece of watercolor board. (The tone was achieved through a wash of acrylic). During the transfer, I refined my drawing to really get the shapes I was after. Sidenote, that is one of my favorite hands I have ever drawn.
Now onto painting.
Tumblr media
Final Painting - 12”x16” Acrylic and Charcoal on Watercolor Board
My Primary concern in the painting stage was to get the values established and have enough color in there to really manipulate digitally at the end. I used a very limited palette, and had fun figuring out the lighting and creating some texture.
I wanted there to be grit in the image so I was not overly concerned with making things look really neat and clean - it is a battle after all. I also played a lot with simplification, such as his chain mail. It really is just a shape with some tiled brush strokes in there to add texture.
Tumblr media
Final Illustration - 12”x16” Mixed Media with Digital
Once the painting was complete, I again scanned it and started my digital edits. This is one of my favorite parts of the process as I am totally free to experiment. Pushing and pulling colors, values, and textures. It is really easy to fall down the digital rabbit hole and end up over editing, so I have to be careful.
As you can see, I added more color to the image, particularly the skin tones. I also warmed everything up.
I have been experimenting with introducing some vector based elements in my work, and brought that in through the arrows and spears. This is a theme throughout the illustrations for the book. It is a way to create emphasis, and kind of tone down a little bit of the violence (I want to help the viewer see past the gory details and focus on the themes and messages in the story).
All in all, I am quite happy with how this turned out, and I am looking forward to sharing more images with you. There are about 24 paintings in total for this book, so it will be awhile before they are all finished, and even longer before we get through all of them!
I would love to hear your thoughts on the piece, and if you have any questions about the process drop them down in the comments!
Until the next time,
B.

Born in Estonia to a Siberian family and later educated in France, artist Anastasia Parmson has long considered this idea and what it means to feel at ease within a space. The music video for Bonobo’s new single “ATK,” the zoetrope flashes a series of photos at an incredibly fast pace, appearing to capture the scenes from the window of a train. Irish director and animator Kevin McGloughlin ( previously) and his brother Páraic (aka the McGloughlin Brothers) recently collaborated on a new short film that speeds through urban and rural regions of Portugal with an eye toward recurring structures and patterns. Visit Instagram for more of his works and glimpses into his process. Prints, stickers, and other goods are available in Lewin’s shop. Rendered on canvas or wood panel, each work is rooted in the transfer of energy and how legacies are passed through generations. Hoods of fur, snake-like coils, and feathers shroud their bodies, using organic details to frame their silhouettes and convey the intrinsic connections between humanity and nature. Geometric motifs and symbols reference diasporic folklore and ritual and adorn the subjects’ faces and torsos. Working in neutral tones and colors evocative of the tropics, Lewin envisions figures within the speculative realm of Afrofuturism. I like to think of it as traveling inside to the place where my inspirations, emotions, genetic memory, and unconscious thoughts all collide.” Meditation and dreams were very important tools in the creative process of my ancestors. “Each of my paintings is created in a process similar to dreaming. “My work tells the story of me,” he says in a statement. The work to remove the graffiti was shown plenty of love from fans: “Together, Everton and Liverpool Football Clubs and their supporters will continue in representing our city in the fight against all forms of discrimination.” “Both clubs will work together with Merseyside Police and will support the investigation in finding those responsible. “Racist and offensive graffiti has been daubed across multiple sites in north Liverpool this morning around Anfield and Goodison. “Both Everton and Liverpool Football Clubs jointly condemn the defacing of buildings and murals ahead of the Merseyside derby. Liverpool and Everton‘s joint statement on the matter, released after the derby, said: There were fears that the tribute to St John and Hunt would be irreparable but the work to remove the graffiti was done without delay, it will mean the world to many. Liverpool fan Courtney Neary provided the updates on Twitter, explaining that the rest of the murals will be fully restored when the artists responsible are able to do so. Hendo is fully restored where as some of the others will be fixed fully once artists are able to.Īmazing from to work so quickly to remove the hateful remarks on them. On Sunday, artist MurWalls removed all graffiti from the murals and restored Henderson’s tribute, having been the original artist responsible, an act that has been widely appreciated.
