PT. II

Summary: Meeting Roman Roy at a gala leads to other things or Roman Roy entrances you with those big hazel eyes.

Authors Note: My palate cleanser! I was originally going to shorten this all into one story but my brain is so fried right now. Not edited as always

You’d met Roman at a company gala, you were the plus one of a random schmuck Roman didn’t know. His eyes kept flitting towards you as you walked around the room. He couldn’t pinpoint why, maybe it was because you were hot or maybe because something about your presence commanded power. He could see the way your shoulders are squared back, your mouth moving like you’re not taking any shit. He decides to walk up to you as whoever you were talking to walks away.

“What brings you to this fickle fest at the chuckle factory?” He says, leaning against the cocktail table.

“A little bit of business and a little bit of pleasure,” You say, taking a sip of your champagne.

“Well, you certainly picked the right party of that second one. We are drowning in it in this crowd of the rich, the insufferable, and the wannabe,” He says, hazel eyes unmoving from yours.

You hum, taking another sip of your own drink, the bubbles sliding down your throat. Roman’s eyes follow the way your throat bobs when you drink down the expensive champagne. You can’t help but smirk at the way he seems so focused on you. Roman Roy should be off schmoozing some schmuck for his Daddy’s business but he’s here giving you those signature ‘fuck me’ eyes knowing god damn well he couldn’t if he wanted to.

He smiles back at you with that signature Roy smile, showing off all his perfect straight teeth.

“Is this when you finally tell me your name or do I have to keep calling you Miss Business and Pleasure?” He says.

“You can keep calling me that. I enjoy a little game of mystery,” you say walking around him. You skirt through the crowd until he loses you in the crowd. You turn your business side on and start schmoozing some potential clients.

Roman spends the rest of the night hunting for you. He sees the occasional glance but then you turn a corner or dip behind someone. He notices you talking business to one client and he takes his chance.

He goes to the same person and starts to subtly undercut what you’re saying to the client. He wants to see how you react. Unluckily for him you’re incredibly quick witted and unfazed. You meet his every undercut with your own.

Once the client leaves you turn to Roman with an smug smile knowing they liked you more

“Nice try Romulus, you’ll catch ‘em later tiger” you wink, a smug smile adorning your lips.

You’re skirted away by Kendall who grabs you by the elbow. He whispers something in your ear, eyes looking over to Roman that fire of competition in Kendall’s eyes. Roman can feel that heat in his gut bubble like pure rage. They’ve never been into the same type, why was Kendall picking you? Kendall walks away, phone to his ear.

Before Roman can approach you again someone else is greeting you with a fresh glass of champagne. Roman tries to look away, his eyes avoiding you at all cost but like a magnet, eyes flit back towards you. The way your lips move, your hand brushing off the strangers, your hand tightening around the glass before placing it on the cocktail table. Your eyes find Roman’s jealous gaze.

You excuse yourself walking towards Roman, you can practically feel his anger masked with faux cockiness.

“Who pissed in your cereal? Nevermind you look like you’d enjoy that type of thing,” You say, grabbing a fresh glass of champagne.

Roman is caught off guard by your comment. He feels his heart skip a beat. You’ve managed to get him in this one. He has an annoyed grunt but also is trying not to smile from how good of a quip it was.

He has to try and get you back so he says, “at least I’d have a nice bowl of cereal, Miss Business and Pleasure.”

You can’t help but laugh at his absurdity, “ I didn’t take you as a cereal eater” You say. Roman chuckles at that. He’s only met one person who could bounce off his quips this well.

“What do you take me for?” He says with the slightest hint of a smirk on his face.

“A 120 pounds wet, skips every meal, hair clumps falling out type” you say studying his body for a second.

Roman is taken aback. No one has ever come at him like that. He tries to act unbothered but when he feels his heart skip a beat after just a second of your inspection, he gives a bit of a smile.

“Is that so?” He says with a slight chuckle and a small smile. How had you seen him and broken him apart to his core so quickly? Most people couldn’t tell when he’d pushed expensive meals around. They're all too consumed with their own bullshit to notice Roman faking eating his meals and yet here you are reading him like a children’s book. Like he was the easiest thing to decipher.

You hum in agreement, handing a waiter your empty glass.

“Seems like my night has come to a finish Mr. Roy. I’ll see you, when I see you” you flash him a smile before walking out of the gala.

Halo Reloaded: Alba-B221

Linda marched, her boots making a steady, determined sound against the pristine floor. Beside her, the somewhat less imposing, but no less formidable, figure of Doctor Catherine Halsey kept pace. Halsey, the mastermind behind the Spartan-II program, was a woman whose name evoked a cocktail of awe, fear, and controversy within the UNSC's ranks. Since her reintegration into society, after a self-imposed exile due to ethical qualms over her own creations, she hadn't exactly been at the center of any new projects—until now.

As they strode into a briefing room that seemed too cold, too sterile even for military standards, Halsey finally broke the silence. "Linda, I assume you're curious why we're here."

Linda, with a physique and presence that somehow managed to make the room feel even smaller, merely nodded, her face an unreadable mask. "The thought had crossed my mind," she responded, her voice betraying nothing of the storm of instincts and newfound abilities that swirled within her.

Halsey, undeterred by Linda's stoicism, launched into an explanation as she brought up a series of images and files on a large, holographic display. "After the... debacle with the Spartan-III program and Ackerson's subsequent... indiscretions, Spartan Ops was formed. It's a second chance for those who've been through... unusual changes, like yourself."

Linda's stance stiffened subtly, the only sign of her growing interest—or concern. "And why am I involved in this?"

"You're not just involved, Linda. You're the key," Halsey turned, facing Linda with an intensity that belied her academic demeanor. "It's about guiding, mentoring. And there's someone specific in mind for you. Spartan Alba-B221."

The display flickered, and an image of a young, intimidatingly built Spartan appeared. Despite her youth, Alba-B221 exuded a raw, almost untamed power. Her eyes, with their slitted pupils, seemed to glow with an inner light, and her frame was more akin to a predatory animal than a human teenager.

Halsey continued, softer now, "Alba has endured much at the hands of those who sought to play god. She's been... altered. Gene-splicing with polar bear and Siberian tiger DNA has left her with abilities far beyond the ordinary, even for a Spartan."

Linda's heart clenched—not in fear, but in a surge of empathy for the young Spartan. "What do you need from me?"

"I need you to be her mentor, her guide. Alba is strong, yes, but inside, she's struggling. She's been molded to be a weapon, but she's also a young girl who's been thrust into a life she didn't choose."

Linda, absorbing the gravity of Halsey's words, felt a resolve settle within her. "I understand. I'll do it."

Alba, upon their first meeting, was a study in contrasts. Her towering frame and the faint, almost imperceptible snarl of her lips spoke of a creature ready for battle. Yet, her eyes darted around nervously, like those of a cornered animal, betraying her uncertainty and fear.

"Hey, Alba. I'm Linda. I've been where you are. I'm here to help," Linda said, extending a hand in greeting, a small, genuine smile playing on her lips.

Alba's reaction was hesitant; her eyes flickered to Linda's hand, then up to her face, searching. Finding no trace of pity or revulsion, just an open, honest offer of fellowship, Alba slowly extended her own hand, her grip cautious but firm.

"N-Nice to meet you, ma'am..." Alba managed, her voice barely above a whisper. "I don't... I don't really know how to... to be anything other than what they made me."

Linda smiled, a genuine, reassuring smile. "We'll figure it out together. You're not alone anymore."

Linda felt a weight she hadn't realized she was carrying begin to lift. Here was a chance not just for redemption, but for connection. In guiding Alba, Linda saw a path forward for both of them, a way to reconcile their pasts with a future that was theirs to define. This was more than a mission...

...it was a new beginning.

❁ your son was your first child together and was surprisingly a great baby. he didn’t fuss too much and slept through the night most of the time

❁ Austin willingly would get up in the middle of the night when your son would cry and let you get your rest

❁ your son’s first word was “dada” and Austin was extremely emotional upon hearing it

❁ as your son gets older, he learns how to walk and talk better. Austin, despite being busy with acting, makes sure to spend everyday trying to teach him how to walk without assistance and say simple words.

❁ Austin makes sure to let your son know it’s okay to express emotions no matter if they’re good or bad. toddlers are very emotional beings and it’s vital they learn it’s okay to be upset sometimes

❁ Austin also lets your son play with whatever he wants however he wants, whether it’s playing pretend dress up or racing Hot Wheels

❁ when your son starts preschool, it’s challenging. your son is used to being at home and is reluctant to start school, but when Austin coaxes him to meet other kids and tells him he’ll have fun, your son gives in

❁ okay but imagine Austin and your son having matching costumes for the preschool’s Fall Festival

❁ they’re something adorable like Batman and Robin or Mike and Sulley from Monsters Inc

❁ your son excitedly pulls the two of you to every stall and introduces you to his friends he’s made

❁ your son begs Austin to get his face painted with him and at first Austin tries to make excuses as to why he can’t, but he eventually gives up

❁ Austin gets his face painted like a tiger and your son gets his painted like a monarch butterfly because “the colors were super cool”

❁ the two of them spend the rest of the evening watching kids Halloween movies and eating (a limited amount, of course) of candy you all acquired from the festival

❁ you make sure to step back and give them their special time together

❁ the night of Halloween starts out rocky. your son is cranky and doesn’t wanna cooperate with his costume

❁ your son snuck in the living room one night and sat behind the couch while you and Austin watched Halloween. neither of you had any idea he was watching until you were going to bed and he was curled up behind the couch

❁ he insisted on being Michael Myers after that and didn’t even have a nightmare after watching the movie

❁ so he’s mad currently and doesn’t want to put on his mask. Austin threatens to not let him watch Halloween with you all tonight after you three got home and settled

❁ your son quickly wipes his tears and gets himself together and Halloween is a success

Chapter II ; "Lies"

“How did I get here?”, thought Amaya as she took a sip of her tea while questioning herself.

She was sitting on the tea table with 3 of the elf deities that she calls friends. As much as she loved the laughing and fun atmosphere, she felt uneasy sitting with them. She knew each and every single one of them and yet she felt like a complete stranger sitting with them. Behind those smiles, laughter, and wittiness, lies a cold hard mask adorned by each of them..

Teagen, the white elf, the leader, the emperor. Looking calm as water, kind, and wiser than any old elves she encountered. But deep down in her heart, Amaya knew it wasn't any of that. He is indeed wise, wise at deciding his tactics and mind games to make others kneel before him. When any misbehavior or a flaw was within his eyes or reaches his ears, he makes “arrangements”, he makes those who dares to misbehave suffer his mind games. By looking into his eyes only, you can practically feel your sins crawling down your back. Just like water whose surface was touched by a mere rock, it creates ripples and splashes. Ripples and splashes that cause water around it to shake and tremble.

Petir, the yellow elf, the warrior, the emperor’s right hand man, her arranged future spouse. Looking high and mighty like an eagle, fierce and mighty like a tiger. Behind that facade lies an obsessive, broken, and cowardly hollow vassal of a man whose mind broke ages ago. The knight helmet that accompanies him throughout battles, was to hide the empty void of scarred eyes. He’s well known for how he slays and conquers lands and territories by ripping them out of the enemies’s dead bloody hands by himself. Oh How wrong they were, hiding behind his minions to do his dirty work like the coward he is. Giving all sorts of jewels from the territories he stole to her as an offering of love…offering of worship and obsession to the blue elf.

Kasih, the pink elf, the angel, the saintess, the young loveable pink tyrant, her sweet little friend. So lively and positive to those around her, just like a beautiful bright pink tourmaline that shone in the darkness of the caves. As bubbly and playful like a dolphin, swimming and thriving on the seven seas. But as we know…dolphins are natural predators, you should never trust their innocent and friendly facade too much. They are even capable of killing a shark despite their small and slim body compared to the sharks. One point of her nimble finger will wreak havoc to those around her. The slight change in her demeanor will make others tremble in fear. Her commanding voice makes others obey her without a second thought.

Each of the lies that comes out of their mouths and personality. The lies about salvation to mankind if they heed to their words. All those lies are said to be justified. She who hears and sees those people who heed mindlessly to their words and those who believe in the salvation of their rulers. She has seen it all.. they suffer until death. Stripped of all their freedom and stripped of their own health just to prove their worthiness and power to their rulers. They who died a pitiful death are always forgotten by their rulers, their rulers who cruelly sacrifice their own kind just to satisfy their thirst for power and treasure. Her heart feels heavy whenever she hears the screams of agony and pain from those who suffer. Her eyes start to sting whenever she sees the suffering of the family who they left without a thought.

She also told her own lies, her own lies towards her so called “friends”. The lies about loving her arranged fiance. The lies about enjoying controlling and making others suffer. The lies about loving each moment she spent with the pink elf. The lies about being in the ruler pyramid created by the white elf who controls everything. The lies about hating the revolutionaries and wanting to expel them from the empire. She hated every single waking moment she existed. All the lies and burden makes her eyes and heart swell and drown in guilt, regret, and sorrow. She knows those lies are terrible and yet she told those lies herself.

Her whole entire being was made out of lies.

As I prepare for the future of this blog (and there is a future, if anybody's wondering), I find myself looking back at the good times, when I had the time to watch a movie a day and write a blog about it, which...yeah, wasn't even sustainable for me in 2021, so make of that what you will. BIBI’s “Animal Farm” & Oppression in the Music Industry

Many of us are familiar with the story of Animal Farm. A group of animals rebelled against their master and drove him off the farm. A system known as “animalism” was put into place to ensure that all animals were treated equally. A group of pigs who were considered the “smartest” of the animals was appointed the leaders, and ultimately became power-hungry and oppressed the animals just as their master did. These events were inspired by the Russian Revolution of 1917, in which the monarchy was overthrown by the revolutionaries and was replaced with a socialist form of government. However, it was not long before leaders such as Stalin became power-crazed and took advantage of the people as well.

Major recurrent themes in Animal Farm include class struggle or antagonism, power dynamics, and inequality. Although these themes were discussed in the context of the political turmoil of the Russian Revolution and the aftermath of World War II, George Orwell’s novel became a source of inspiration for works in numerous and diverse fields, including music. In the song I am discussing today, a few of these themes are further explored through the lens of an artist working in the music industry.

South Korean singer-songwriter, BIBI, recently released a new single called “Animal Farm”, a suspenseful, yet melancholic tune that talks about the consequences of being subjected to those in positions of power. One may consider the music video more surprising than the lyrics, as it is jam-packed with blood and gore, and is reminiscent of a typical Quentin Tarantino film. I was immediately intrigued by the concept and decided I wanted to break down the lyrics, which are in Korean, for English-speaking audiences such as myself.

And so we begin.

As the music video starts, the camera pans onto BIBI, who is kneeling down on a table with an apple in her mouth, much like a roasted pig. Surrounding her are men with white masks, patiently waiting to dine. Roasted pig is considered a delicacy in many countries, and is typically afforded by the wealthy and affluent. Around her, glasses of champagne and luxurious dishes are being served to the guests.

Verse #1 - Hypocrisy

My first thought is that BIBI is commenting on how she is the center of attention for many powerful men in the music industry. These men are masked, implying that they probably work behind the scenes unlike her. Although these men consider her (the roasted pig) a “delicacy”, they are also taking advantage of her by “feeding” on her. Perhaps BIBI has dealt with issues of being objectified as a female artist in the industry and feels as if her work is valued less than her physical appearance.

The image of champagne is analogous to the image of whiskey in Animal Farm and represents corruption. One of the commandments of animalism was that no animal would be allowed to consume alcohol, yet after gaining power, the pigs felt they could break the rule by drinking whiskey. In the context of the entertainment industry, this could be alluding to the fact that many record labels and music producers have the final call on the work an artist ultimately releases – that is, which works the label believes will be most profitable for them. In most cases, the artist is forced to accept these decisions or risk getting fired by their record label.

Verse #2 - Power Dynamics

Welcome, well done Shameless friends of mine Who’s next Hang my pretty head in your room Where is love? Where is my sympathy? What have we lost? Is it a farm? Is it society? Am I a tiger or a gazelle?

BIBI addresses how people shamelessly use her for their own gain. She questions the lack of sympathy her so-called “friends” have for her and draws attention to the destruction their actions have caused. My assumption is that, once BIBI realized these people were taking advantage of her for personal gains, she cut ties with them. This obviously had negative consequences. I found her question about whether the world is a farm or society particularly interesting. In an ideal society, people are thought to live alongside each other in peace and harmony, while relationships are built on trust and community. On a farm, however, animals are raised in a structured environment and are only kept and nurtured until they are discarded for food - much like record labels that only keep an artist for as long as they are profitable. In BIBI’s view, the lines between these two extremes are blurring. Soon enough, will artists just be treated like farm animals that can be discarded?

Pre-chorus - Hidden Struggles

“It might be pretty, it might be beautiful…This might be right, this might be justice,” BIBI says in the post-chorus. From the outside, BIBI’s situation, like many artists, might seem positive. After all, she is in the spotlight, goes on concert tours, and is constantly meeting famous people. What could be so bad about her life? What many people are not aware of, however, is the oppression many artists like herself face behind the scenes in the music industry - that beyond the smiles and cheers, there are struggles unknown to us listeners.

Chorus - Revenge

Suddenly, the music video takes a dark turn. BIBI picks up a long sword, jumps onto the table, and slashes the neck of the man sitting at the head of it. One by one, she kills off the rest of the men in the dining room. Finally, she stops at a glass showcase with an electric guitar inside. She shoots it open with a gun, takes out the guitar, and begins playing an epic solo in her bloody white dress – surrounded by the countless dead bodies of the men she killed.

By going along with the demands of those in power, BIBI is contributing to the very thing she despises. The fact that she has limited control over her creative work and expression makes her feel like she is not her own person, and has lost a sense of her identity. I believe the electric guitar symbolizes her desire to break free from the restraints of the industry and find her own voice.

I thought it was very creative of BIBI to draw inspiration from Animal Farm in the process of creating this song and music video. It goes to show that more than 80 years later, Orwell’s story remains relevant in modern society. Unfortunately, this also means that issues of power dynamics and inequality are also still pervasive in society and across cultures and industries. Who would have imagined that the message of Animal Farm, an allegory of the 1917 Russian Revolution could be so perfectly encapsulated in a South Korean song released in 2022? I admire BIBI’s courage to come to terms with some serious issues she has experienced, and through highly creative means too.

Wow. Seriously, I had heard amazing things about this story and yet it took me by surprise. Incredibly emotional and with a lot to say about the main cast, all of that told through a simple but efficient conflict that was a delight to follow. This story doesn’t have an antagonist; instead it’s about the inherent danger of the situation they are in and the humanity and complexities of the characters - a huge triumph. For sure one of my, if not the, favorites stories of the Fifth Doctor. I hope this range brings more great surprises like this.

The Eye of the Scorpion is a triumph both as a story and a companion introduction, establishing a strong and interesting characterization for Erimem with a lot o potential for future releases; but also offering new angles to look at the Fifth Doctor and Peri, specially at this point of the timeline. Some purists may dislike how this arc - and other stories featuring Five and Peri - mess with The Caves of Androzani, but that’s not a sentiment I share. As much as I agree that Androzani is a deserving classic, I disagree that much is lost because of more adventures at the end of this Doctor’s life - and if the price I have to pay for listening to a TARDIS team I quite like is that his sacrifice is not for a stranger but for a close friend, so be it.

◆ The Church and the Crown - ★★★★☆

I finished The Church and the Crown with an grin in my face between Five being a silly guy and asking the musketeers to shout “one for all and all for one!” and Erimem finally being invited to permanently travel in the TARDIS. It’s just their second story and the chemistry of the cast is in the heights and there is this fondness between the characters that warms my heart. A very good pure historical and another triumph for the Fifth Doctor adventures, there is a lot to like in this story. And the cover is gorgeous.

◆ Nekromanteia - ☆☆☆☆☆

“No one is born innocent in this district, Doctor” perhaps is the perfect summary to Nekromanteia. A story full of unpleasant and disguting characters that is painful to hear; the only good thing about it is the regular cast that tries to salvage whatever they can of this trainwreck. But of course, the story is not satisfied with being plainly bad and so it makes an effort to spend its two hour disrespecting that cast. That is honestly trying. Peter Davison was absolutely right to protest about this.

◆ The Axis of Insanity - ★★★☆☆

“The lunatics have taken over the asylum!”, the line that serves as the cliffhanger of part two is the best summary The Axis of Insanity could ever ask for. It revolves around a caricate villain but that was never a ploblem - the opposite actually, it’s an example of an one-note character that works really well because the acting and the dynamic with the cast compesates the simplicity. It’s also a plot that gives all regulars something to do at some point and show a new side of them because of it. It’s not one of my favorite stories - I did not exagerate when I said to not listen to it if you have a headache - but it’s fun tale that gives you exactly what was promised.

famous visits scorpler, and even scorpler doesn't know the layers of masks that famous wears

from my hc's about multiple tigers being spirits of the deceased, who might be able to play and touch the living as blaseball players but who are still, inextricably, ghosts. famous owens (they) is an og tiger, known as a demon with many masks and faces. mclaughlin scorpler (they, riv'd on a ruby tuesday) was originally a ny mill and is scorpion person (interp of a scorpion person up to the viewer)

It's not a secret now. It had started as an oddity, then grew to a rumor, an open secret to what it is now, open speculation and headlines on Earthly tabloids. The Tigers were full of dead men walking- Hiroto striding onto the field without fear, blood barely visible beneath their dark jersey, unlike the saltwater blue tint of her lips and the way the tips of their fingers let the light pass through it. Paula, with her crown of leaves and wood that no one knows of anymore. Dunlap, in xyr strange moments, on the field looking like fae was halo'd in blood.

Famous was more careful than that. Their wardrobe was extensive and hard won- of course they had bodies that still wore the sweat of living. In this, they faded away, next to the strangeness of Ren and the speculation around Zion, her still living body hidden away in her mech.

Scorpion plays with their hand, their skin cool against Famous' borrowed skin. The edges of their fingers are sharp, small spikes running through them. And yet, they're gentle as they play with Famous' fingers. In Scorpler's New York apartment, Famous wears the skin of a desperate imp, hair from a sharp tonged merchant and the mouth of her rival. All living when Famous had taken what they had offered. Still living, like tanned leather and stitched together to lay over the the ghost of them. Famous feels Scorpler's touch through it, only the bare hint of pressure without the way those spikes catch tremulously on skin and the way Scorpler's hands remind them of holding pearls.

"Y'know, it used to scare the rest of the team," Scorpler says, casual, waiting for Famous to respond. They hum, waiting to see where this goes. "I knew you were hauntingly beautiful baby, but the a bunch were," a low whistle, "just haunting. Reminds some of 'em of what waits," Scorpler says. Pauses. "Or if you can kill a ghost, I guess."

"And how about you? Are scorpions scared of ghosts?" Famous teases smoothly. And it works. Scorpler laughs, loudly kissing over where Famous hands would be mangled, delicated bones broken where a hero had stomped on them, thrice. "Oh baby, I'm done with ghosts," Scorpler says, and they're talking about their ex-husband, Famous knows, but it is awfully funny. If only they knew of the bruises beneath their hands, the way those broken ribs would always pierce through intestines and arteries under blood pooling in the shapes of hands.

Famous laughs. "You have no idea what you're missing, darling," they say, eyes bright as they lean in to kiss them.
