Used up VW Beetles were abundant in California and the surf culture was at its peak in the Sixties. The dune buggy epitomized the California lifestyle, and as the concept was so simple and so inviting, it spread quickly. The beach buggy appeared in several movies, including Elvis Presley films, and the 1968 The Thomas Crown Affair, which contains a lengthy beach driving scene in which Steve McQueen drives a buggy with Faye Dunaway at his side.
The beach buggy drives very well indeed and sounds fantastic when on song. Sitting proudly on chrome wheels shod with good tyres all round the beach buggy is also fitted with the very powerful 1584cc engine, this example is a real one off and looks fantastic!
